HERE WE GO AGAIN... AGAIN!
It may have been a quiet year for Jigsaw Pictures - but that is all about to change, as Forever Young returns to the forum... AGAIN!
While some forum members may be sighing and thinking "not again", producer Dax has promised that this is the final version - and it is mostly similar to the previous one, which aired a four-episode run in late 2020. "The previous version of the show is one I was happy with, it was personal circumstances that forced it to end abruptly," said Dax. "I had to take a hiatus from writing because I wasn't enjoying it, I wasn't feeling into it and I was finding it to be a chore that I didn't want to undertake. I needed to charge my batteries and after almost a year away, I feel I have done so."
"The previous 'version' of Forever Young is still going to be the final one. I have just made a few name/relationship changes, and mixed around a few of the opening stories. So the initial few episodes will feel somewhat similar, but from around Episode 2, you will notice changes coming in. From Episode 4, it will all be stuff you've never seen before. Like I said, I was largely happy with how FY turned out, I just couldn't continue writing at that point."
Forever Young will relaunch in 2022, with Dax choosing to still label it as the third incarnation of the show, due to its similarity to November 2021's go. Readers shouldn't skip the initial episodes, however, as even Episode 1 contains new material - and the scenes kept from previous episodes have been rewritten slightly too. When asked how readers can be sure they should invest into this version of the show and not just expect it to end a few episodes in before being relaunched, Dax said "I am 110% dedicated to this version lasting. It really is the last chance - I don't want to keep flogging a dead horse but I know what I want from Forever Young and I am determined for it to work out."
Characters that proved popular last time around such as Liam Radcliffe (James Bye) and Stella Gregory (Denise Welch) remain, with the main change being how some characters are related - for example, Caleb and his wife Naomi (previously 'Emma') have three daughters; while Justin Hastings now has two sons, Sam and Jamie. A few characters have also been recast. "I wanted a few more gritty stories from the start, so we've brought forward some stories that previously had been scheduled for later on. I struggle with openings because I worry about jumping in too much, too soon, but the opening episodes feature darker, more interesting storylines such as a take on homophobic bullying within sports and a teenage pregnancy."
"Forever Young is still ultimately a soap about younger people, so I think it is natural to expect quite a heavy focus on romance. Of course there is more to youth than sex and relationships, but it will be a prominent feature. I also want to showcase a colourful look at life - this soap is set in the fictional borough of Ashbury in North London, sort of based on Camden. It's a vibrant place, full of all sorts of people, and I hope my cast represents this."
"Sexuality is really something that I want to be a big part of the show. I think it's so often overlooked in soaps but Ashbury is bustling with LGBT+ people from all over the spectrum. We have a love story between two girls in their early twenties, while we have also cast a non-binary character in the form of Sydney Hunter, played by River City's Kirsty Pickering. Sydney allows us to take a look at a really interesting set of people that are rarely shown on TV (though Hollyoaks has taken big steps to showcase this), and they are an extremely fun character to work with. They come into the show a little later. There is also an older lesbian couple in their forties, with a storyline focusing on what this couple want from their lives. Do they want marriage and kids like they are told is "normal", or are they happy as they are? A lot of soaps have their gay couples become hellbent on having children, so this is an interesting route to explore."
Of course, there are LGBT males, too. Charlie Hastings (Billy Price) is back with his original storyline, though slightly tweaked, which will see the young lad - who casually plays football for a local team - have his sexuality outed to his team-mates, resulting in a bullying campaign from some of them. There are so many more storylines and characters related to sexual orientation which I think is really nice, as soaps often have a token gay couple and then be done with it. There is also a gay bar opening in the first episodes, which provides a nice hub for all of our characters to mix, but a place for some of our younger LGBT characters to find acceptance and support. There are some fun events such as Drag Bingo planned, which will help add a real sense of community. The bar - punnily named 'Pride & Prosecco' will become a central location, similar to the pub and the café."
When asked about the tone of the show, Dax said "I really want this show to be gritty, dark and exciting. I called it a late-night soap last time and while I didn't really deliver, that is exactly what Forever Young is supposed to be. I have been a little worried about what I can and cannot post on the forum - I've had bad reactions to the use of language before, so I sort of toned things down last time. While of course the show will be abiding by Proboards rules, there likely will be uses of language and slightly graphic scenes. In my head, Forever Young would be similar to Brookside in not shying away from the darker stories and scenes. There won't be bad language in every episode but sometimes characters might say mild swear words and I think that is important to convey because it is natural."
Forever Young will air in real-time, posting two episodes a week. They will be posted on a Sunday night, both at the same time, allowing a week between episodes. Dax is hoping that by posting both episodes together, it allows readers full control over when they read the episodes. "I know some people prefer to read a few at once, so if I had one episode at the start of the week and one at the end, people may feel they need to cram it in at the weekend. If I post both episodes at the same time, readers can read them whenever they want to, and they can read both, just one, or even none at all - it just allows more flexibility for the forum members, but also for me in terms of not having a spaced-out schedule to follow." Both episodes will be 'set' the following week.
In his final words, Dax said: "I am super excited to (re)relaunch Forever Young and I hope people understand why the previous version had to be shelved. I am excited to share my work with the forum and I thought the 10th anniversary of Writers Express (the previous name of Pure Drama) - a huge time for the forum and an amazing achievement for a forum - was as good a time as any to start sharing. While the show won't air until a month after the anniversary itself, I will be posting titbits throughout August, leading into a September launch - with a huge autumn planned for readers, and the residents of Ashbury."
"Ben and I have decided to launch new projects at a similar time (#DoubleDrama), which I think is going to be really exciting - it will be nice to see the forum busy after such a long period of poor Hannah carrying it by herself!" laughed Dax - before saying that he hoped to see more new projects soon. "We have had such a huge amount of brilliant projects in the past and I can't wait for the next 10 years!"
Forever Young will begin airing soon

CHLOEThis all sounds great, Dax! I particularly like all the thought you've put into the LGBTIQA+ side of things and I'm looking forward to all that. RE: strong language and graphic material - the easiest thing to do is circumvent the Proboards rules in a sensible way. When using strong langauge (this does not include things like 'bastard' or 'arse', think 'f***' or 's***'!), just use asterisks. Readers will know what you mean and you aren't breaking any rules. With graphic material, Proboards won't allow that, however you can convey it through language. For example if a character is 'laying in a pool of blood' or something, well... you have to say that. There's no other way of expressing it. But don't stress too much about it. Absolutely love the poster guys, it's amazing! x
HANNAH I am glad you've decided to go ahead with Forever Young, I thought 2021's incarnation was the strongest it's ever been and I enjoyed reading it. I really hope it's here to stay. I like the insights you've given as to what we can expect with storylines and I'm very happy to hear that Liam remains. I'll look forward to hearing more and having a peek at the cast. Aww all the memories there. Uncertain Nights, always remember Sanchia and Oscar
JOE Dax, this is such exciting news. I am so looking forward to being a fan of Forever Young. I know how much you've put into this project. I wish you all the very best of luck with it. Proud of you matey

FOREVER YOUNG ANNOUNCES NEW EPISODE SCHEDULE FROM SEASON 2
The creator and writer of FOREVER YOUNG, Dax, has confirmed that Season 2 will see a drastic difference in the output of episodes.
Since its first episode on 12th July 2023, late-night soap opera FY has been posting two half-hour episodes every week. This will continue for a little while, until the end of Season 1, as all episodes have been written and Dax is keen to keep them set in real-time. However, from Season Two, things will look different.
"I've written the first 35 episodes of the show, and so to make changes to the output would drastically affect things - as events like Halloween and Christmas will prove to be an important plot point, so it needs to be kept in real time. However, I do recognise that two episodes a week is going to be a lot for people to cope with - already, there's a big backlog of episodes for readers, and we're only 7 weeks in. Season 1 is 25 episodes long, and we're halfway through. In Season 2, things will change - Episode 33 marks the switch, as we will change to one episode a week. However, the episodes will vary in size - some episodes may be a half hour, some may be slightly longer. Ultimately, though, there'll be at least a 25% reduction in content being posted, which should make things more manageable."
So why did Dax choose to open the show with 2 episodes a week?
"There were 2 reasons. Firstly, I felt that once a week wasn't enough for a soap opera. It makes things feel sluggish if there is a week's gap between each episode, and if there's not, things aren't moving at a realistic pace in my opinion. So I wanted to post two a week, which felt like the minimum to make it realistic, but the maximum I could post on the forum. Another reason is that the forum has been so quiet recently, I wanted to give forumers something to read! Hannah (the creator of hit forum project BEHIND CLOSED DOORS) has done an amazing job of keeping the forum afloat in the last few years with BCD and quite frankly deserves a medal, but I felt bad that we had all been so busy that BCD was doing all of the heavy lifting! So I thought that double episodes would hopefully help bring an injection of life to the place. However, it isn't sustainable - and I didn't plan for it to be forever, either."
"I would change to weekly episodes from the next episode, but the remainder of the season is set in real-time - events such as Halloween and the return to school is mentioned, and there are plans for big Christmas episodes, so to change the output now would result in Christmas being posted a lot later - and there is also a huge twist planned for the Easter weekend in 2024 which requires an episode to be posted on Good Friday. I'm hoping that we can all manage with two episodes until Episode 33 (12th November), from which episodes will become weekly, posted on a Wednesday."
So what does the schedule look like for the remainder of Season 1 and the start of Season 2? You can find out below!
REMAINDER OF SEASON 1 Episode 13/14 (1x13/1x14) - posted Sunday 3rd September 2023 Episode 15/16 (1x15/1x16) - posted Sunday 10th September 2023 Episode 17/18 (1x17/1x18) - posted Sunday 17th September 2023 Episode 19/20 (1x19/1x20) - posted Sunday 24th September 2023 Episode 21/22 (1x21/1x22) - posted Sunday 1st October 2023 Episode 23/24 (1x23/1x24) - posted Sunday 8th October 2023 Episode 25 (1x25) - posted Sunday 15th October 2023 (Season Finale)

HARDING TIMES! SOAP BOSS TALKS HARDING FAMILY DEVELOPMENTS
WARNING: CONTAINS HUGE SPOILERS FOR 1x15 AND 1x16 - DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU ARE UP TO DATE WITH THESE EPISODES!
FOREVER YOUNG creator Dax has opened up about recent developments for the Harding family following Episodes 15 and 16, which marked two huge twists for the family.
The first big storyline development came in Episode 15 when, as Chelsea Bryant (Jessica Plummer) gave birth to a baby boy, later named Beau, the baby's father Jason Harding (Adam Woodward) was oblivious to the fact that his dad Dave Harding (David Kennedy) was suffering a fatal heart attack in the local woodlands, after a tense argument with Dave's secret daughter Chloe Hall (Charlotte Jordan). This means that 1x15 marked the show's first death and first birth in one episode.
Speaking about the decision to kill off Dave so soon into the show's run, Dax said: "The plan was always to have Dave die early on into the show's run. I felt like the death of a character who had been prominent in the early episodes would be a really good way to catapult storylines into a new direction, and when I came up with the idea, I then created Dave. While Dave was a fun character to write for, and ultimately a good guy, his death leads to lots of new directions for characters such as Nikki, Jason, Chelsea, Noah, Chloe and the Kinsellas.
He is also very much a community man, so his death will have a lasting impact on the likes of Rob, Paul and Leona. There's so much drama to get out of this development, it really sets the storylines up for the next 30 episodes and beyond. Dave died without anybody finding out about his secret daughter; he was found by 'enemy' Brady (Kinsella: played by Danny Walters); and this moment will have a lasting impact on those left behind.
The seeds were sown early on. There's been mentions of Dave's dodgy heart, and that was always going to be his cause of death. He took a funny turn during his and Nikki's anniversary meal and it was revealed that Brady's robbery on Drive Buy led to Dave suffering a heart attack years ago, so the hints were there. I like the symmetry that Brady's return was a, albeit small, part of Dave's fatal heart attack.
I'm very happy with this storyline development and the storyline potential it opens. Often times, soap deaths are forgotten about, but Dave's will have a lasting impact on the show. Going into season 2, there's a big episode for Nikki focusing on her grief. I just think it's exciting. I also think Dave is a character that has more potential dead than he does alive. I think there's a few cases of this in soaps - I think of Shakil Kazemi in EastEnders, and while he was a decent enough character, the impact of his death was far greater than potential he had alive. Dave is in the same ilk, in my opinion."
If readers thought the drama was going to end there, Episode 16 - focusing on the aftermath of Dave's tragic demise - delivered another shock twist, relating to Dave's eldest son Jason Harding.
"This one's going to be slightly more controversial!" laughed Dax.
Tensions between Jason and his ex-best-friend Brady have been fraught ever since the Kinsella lad returned from prison for robbing the Harding family's beloved shop Drive Buy. There has been hints as to why, but the closing moments of 1x16 saw a flashback reveal a shocking moment of history between the pair.
In the flashback to 2017, just months before the robbery, Jason and Brady - then aged 23 - purchased cocaine and cannabis from a drug dealer before getting high in Brady's bedroom. As Jason unloaded about his fears over becoming a dad for the first time alongside Chelsea, with whom he had had a fling that left her pregnant (with Theo), Brady supportedhim, and the boys shared an emotional moment. The moment led to more, however, and the two intoxicated lads ended up having sex.
"I think I can see this being controversial because so far it seems every man in Ashbury is gay or bi! But I can promise that's not the case. In fact, Jason is straight. There's no sexuality or coming out story here, it's just that he was in a bad place, he was high on drugs, and he leant on a friend. He had sex with a man once, and he doesn't want to do it again. For Brady, though? Maybe there's more to it..."
"I've worked hard to showcase a range of sexualities in FOREVER YOUNG, and I wanted to show a straight heart-throb who has experimented but didn't like it. So many people have experimented in their youth and I think it's true to life. However, this is another secret amongst the Harding family: Jason and Chelsea were making a go of things at first, albeit they were starting out, but that means that Jason cheated. Six years on, and Chelsea is none the wiser."
Is that all there is to Brady and Jason's past? "No, there's more tension between the pair! There's a lot of layers to their former friendship but it will be a while before these layers are peeled back. I don't want to reveal everything to soon, there's a lot going on beneath the surface for a few storylines. Everything will eventually become clear."
It has been commented on that FY has a varied LGBT+ cast, and this is something Dax is keen to continue. "I like having a range of characters. We've got bisexual characters, gay characters - we've hinted at a female couple with original character Zarah (Bhavna Limbachia) and newcomer Steph (Lucy Dixon), there's an open relationship, sexually confused characters, and now Brady is going on a journey. Is he straight? Is he bisexual? Is he pansexual, or fluid? Does he need to label his sexuality? Brady's been with a man and he's been with women, so he doesn't identify as gay, but he's going to be working out what sex, attraction and romance means to him. He's a typically 'macho', bad boy character, so I think it's nice to explore this with him. There's a lot to come for him."
Forever Young is set to continue next week, as Episodes 17 and 18 are posted. The show is gearing up to conclude Season 1, with Episode 25 - focusing on Dave's funeral - being the season finale. And it's set to be a shocker!
Just wanted to post this article to explain my reasoning for recent storyline developments. Hopefully any doubts (notably about the Brady/Jason story) will be lesser after reading my reasoning

THREE CHARACTERS PROMOTED TO REGULAR STATUS
Three characters that were initially introduced as 'recurring' characters are set to become regulars in Season 2 of FOREVER YOUNG, it has been announced.
Journalism student Sakina Gulati (Tanisha Gorey) was introduced early in the show's run as a flatmate of Kaiyen Chadha (Adam Hussain) and Louie Renshaw (Noah Valentine), before eventually departed in Episode 10. She later returned following the university's summer break, and was shown moving in with the boys. Now, she is set to become a permanent part of life in Ashbury, as she settles into the new student house on Oakford Avenue, making new friends and finding herself embroiled in drama.
Sakina's backstory was hinted at in her earlier appearances, but this will be expanded upon in the new season. Tanisha is said to be "thrilled" to be offered a permanent contract, and it has been suggested that she will find herself enjoying a spot of romance in Season 2. That's not all, however, as Sakina is set to be embroiled in quite a dark storyline.
Meanwhile, original character Zack Richards (Sam Hall) was introduced as a rugby-playing college student, and the secret boyfriend of Noah Harding (Charlie Behan). Teenagers Noah and Zack proved popular amongst readers as they navigated Noah attempting to lose his virginity, but sadly, 'Zoah' were torn apart by the scheming of homophobic peer Dylan Morgan (Bleu Landau). Zack then stopped appearing, until he popped up to support Noah following his dad's death, and the pair reignited their friendship, eventually leading to romance once more.
Fans got an insight into Zack's home life as his parents Thomas (Richard Winsor) and Melissa Richards (Ali Bastian) were introduced, but when Zack came out to them as bisexual and revealed Noah as his boyfriend, they kicked him out. Zack was forced to move in with the grieving Harding family, whom he supported through the funeral of patriarch Dave - but following the wake, Noah and Zack found Noah's grief-stricken mum Nikki (Alex Fletcher) following her suicide attempt.
While Sakina had originally been planned to be promoted to a regular all along, Zack was not. "Zack was initially there for a brief storyline, and would later depart after leaving Noah heartbroken. However, I enjoyed writing for him so much that I felt I needed to bring him back and flesh him out more. He's a really fun character to write for and I am looking forward to expanding his connections on the canvas" said writer and creator Dax.
In the new Season, Zack and Noah's relationship will continue to gain significant focus, but the tragedy surrounding Noah's mother Nikki sees them face a huge hurdle. There will also be a strong focus on Zack's home life as Melissa and Thomas make more appearances, and the audience will get to see what really makes the Richards family tick - though Melissa and Thomas will remain as recurring characters.
The final character set to be promoted to a regular is hunky mechanic Jake Howell (Aedan Duckworth). Jake was introduced as a lad Louie met at a bar and shared a kiss with, eventually reappearing mid-way through the season as he met Louie for sex and revealed that he was closeted due to his homophobic father. Since then, Jake has appeared sporadically to hook-up with Louie, with whom he has begun a casual relationship. In Season Two, he will move to the area, getting himself a flat and beginning work at the garage. There is also the chance that his family members may begin to make an appearance.
Whether Louie and Jake are a long-term couple remains to be seen, but Jake will be fleshed out more so as not to just be "Louie's lover". Aedan Duckworth has reportedly been filming scenes with Billy Price (Charlie Cullen) and Jack James Ryan (Aaron Gordon), two characters in Jake's age range.
All three characters are set to be regulars from when the show returns for its second season, following a whirlwind first season

WELCOME TO ASHBURY
WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 29 (S02E04)
FOREVER YOUNG's latest episode (Episode 29/S02 E04) has unveiled several newcomers to the show, as two new families are set to debut.
ISLA RHODES Portrayed by former Hollyoaks star Eva O'Hara (who played Verity Hutchinson between 2020 and 2022), Isla Rhodes is the sister of established regular Kyle (Max Parker). She made her debut when Kyle and his boyfriend Ethan (Callum Kerr) returned from Manchester following the funeral of Kyle and Isla's father John. It was revealed later in the episode that Isla had followed them after agreeing to be their surrogate, with the couple having decided to start a family several episodes ago.
A solicitor, Isla is said to be both focused and ruthless, but also deeply compassionate. She will fight for the underdog and is very strong-willed. She knows her own mind and believes in standing up for what she believes is right. Over the next few months, Isla and Kyle's relationship with blossom, providing Kyle with another person in his corner - perhaps at the right time, as viewers know that love rat Ethan has been having an affair with Nathan Finch (Max Bowden) behind Kyle's back.
Writer Dax assured PDSoap.com that "Isla has a lot to come. She isn't just there to be Ethan and Kyle's surrogate, she will also develop connections in the wider community and front her own stories. She is involved in several big storylines over the course of the season and will prove to be one to watch."
THE FISHER FAMILY The start of a new family debuted in the episode, as married couple Anthea Brewer and Diane Fisher made their first appearances.
Anthea is portrayed by former Holby City star Sharon D. Clarke (who played Lola Griffin in the medical drama). It was mentioned that she had lived in Ashbury for years, on the lesser-seen Woodside Lane. The next-door neighbour of Martha Dobbs (Lin Blakley), Anthea successfully bagged the job of manageress at the local convenience store Drive Buy Supermarket, which had been being run by elderly Bev Daniels (Sue Johnston) in the wake of owner Nikki Harding (Alex Fletcher), the daughter of Bev, attempting suicide in the Season 1 finalé.
A loud and talkative gossip, Anthea has faced several hardships in her life. At a young age, she discovered that she was infertile, and so opted to adopt instead. Over the last thirty years, she has adopted many children, and now in her 50s, is looking forward to focusing on herself and her wife. A lesbian, Anthea settled down with Diane 9 years ago, and has provided a parental role to her two daughters. Just like Anthea, actress Sharon D. Clarke is openly gay.
Anthea's wife Diane is portrayed by comedienne and actress Catherine Tate, famed for many roles, a notable one being Doctor companion Donna Noble, a role she is set to reprise this autumn.
With a strong wit and a dead-pan sense of humour, high school headmistress Diane has a big heart and adores her girls greatly - her girls being her wife, Anthea, and her two daughters Charlotte and Grace. Diane is bisexual, and her daughters have always known - she has always ben open about her love life with her kids. Together, Anthea and Diane are a strong couple.
Diane's girls Charlotte and Grace will be debuting in upcoming episodes. 21-year-old Charlotte is a highly-strung and short-tempered tomboy who struggles to express herself. A personal trainer, she is already working at the gym off-screen. Youngest sister Grace is a 16-year-old college student, a girl with the ultimate resting bitch face... but her personality couldn't be more different, as she is sweet-natured and has a huge heart, much like her mother. Grace studies music and has big dreams to make it as a popstar... so will a friendship with teen influencer Amber Morgan (Millie Gibson) blossom?
The decision to introduce the Fishers is said to have been following the realisation from producer Dax that the show had become very male-centric in its first season.
"Hopefully, the inclusion of Isla, Anthea, Diane, Grace and Charlotte will go a long way to help boost the female cast, as well as increased focus for characters like Elyse Anderson, Sophia Morgan, Chloe Hall, Sakina Gulati and Amber Morgan."
THE REID FAMILY The final new family which started to trickle in in Episode 29 was the Reid family. A three-strong family, only one member appeared, that being single dad Owen Reid, but his two children will soon follow.
Charming and cheeky, Owen is a fun-loving guy who still lives life like he's in his 20s. He settled down at a young age and so missed out on his youth - so now his kids are grown, he's keen to have some fun! His wife Lydia is absent and off-the-scene, so Owen is free, single and keen for a fresh start in an old haunt.
Owen has two children - his youngest, Ben, was mentioned, and will soon debut alongside eldest child Mia. Spoilt 19-year-old Mia Reid will be portrayed by Matilda the Musical star Cara Jenkins, and will join the student group. Good at getting her own way, Mia is a law student who has her dad wrapped around her little finger. 17-year-old Ben is completely different, a shy and sensitive young lad who is a bit of a loner and keeps himself to himself. Studying Uniformed Public Services at college, Ben has ambitions to join the police. He will be portrayed by Happy Valley star Rhys Connah, who played youngster Ryan Cawood on the popular BBC crime drama.
But are there ulterior motives for Owen bringing his family back to Ashbury? And who is around that he still knows, nearly 20 years later?
Look out for these new characters soon on FOREVER YOUNG
