2x16: 'A wannbe gypsy bride with bad roots almost seems complimentary having now met you' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Thirty Six It’s early morning on Canvey Island as teachers Steven Faraday and Michelle Fox make their way to work. Having both parked their cars in the staff car park, Michelle is trying to get some stuff out of the boot of her car when the baby suddenly kicks causing Michelle to drop some of the folders on the ground “Oi you, give me a break” laughs Michelle as she rubs her stomach affectionately. Steven jogs over to help Michelle pick up the folders “Thanks” Michelle then turns away from Steven and tries to busy herself. Steven hangs around for a few moments before moving away from Michelle. Once Steven has left, Michelle sighs before closing the boot and heading inside.

Sophia Faraday and her business partner Cole Donovan are standing admiring the newly furnished bar in their converted warehouse nightclub. “We still have to come up with a name for this place; we open up in less than five weeks” Cole points out. “I’ve had a few ideas” smiles Sophia. Suddenly, a piercing crash fills the nightclub leaving Cole and Sophia horrified. They rush towards the balcony which has just collapsed and check that everyone is safe. “I’ve got the perfect name for this place” Sophia says shaking her head “The Titanic, because we’re sinking fast.”

Outside Matthew Fitzgerald and Olivia Kane’s apartment, Kyle Campbell is chatting on the phone “Alright babe, yeah I’ll be there soon…promise” teases Kyle. As he hangs up the phone, he notices Matthew and Olivia walk past chatting about their plans for the day “Why don’t you come with me, come on…take the day off. Let’s do some wedding shopping” smiles Olivia. Matthew eventually agrees and gives Olivia a kiss. However, as they walk away, Matthew drops his car keys which are soon spotted by Kyle. Once Matthew and Olivia are out of sight, Kyle grabs the keys, kisses them and smiles.

Meanwhile, at the Fields’ household, Eileen Fields is holding a cup of tea as she stares out of the window with a worried look on her face. She jumps as her son David joins her “Morning Ma, any tea going?” asks David before Eileen makes him a cup. Joining him at the table, Eileen smiles at her son. David smiles back before buttering the toast he has just made “How’s Michelle? I didn’t hear her get off this morning” comments Eileen. David explains that Michelle had to go to work early. “Oh, she’s such a hard worker that girl… reminds me of a young me” jokes Eileen. “She reminds me of lot of you actually Ma. She’s a strong feisty woman and dare anyone cross her or her family” confesses David. Eileen smiles politely before returning to her worried state.

Back at Canvey Island Comp, Mia Faraday is at her locker when she is joined by her friend Vicki Connor “What a party, I think I’m still hungover… definitely worth it though” Mia, however, isn’t as enthralled by the antics of the party as Vicki. “Maybe you’re still coming down” confronts Mia. Vicki frowns and tells Mia to lower her voice “Why? Don’t you want people knowing you’re a junkie?” snaps Mia. “Oh please Princess, a junkie? I took some pills at a party… I’d hardly say I'm going to rehab” fires back Vicki. Mia explains to Vicki that she’s not impressed with her or her drug taking, regardless of her trying to explain it. “You really need to get out more Mia darling, or will your my little pony miss you too much” spits Vicki before walking off. As Vicki exits the school, she is thrilled when Kyle speeds up in Matthew’s car “Fancy a ride?” laughs Kyle before Vicki jumps into the car.

At the Spencer house, Siobhan Spencer is making lunch as her step-son Anthony arrives home “I didn’t realise you were home for lunch sweetheart, I would have made more” smiles Siobhan. “It’s okay, I’m actually heading out. I’m going… I have to meet a friend” stammers Anthony. “A friend is it?” teases Siobhan as Anthony’s biological mother Imogen Sandford joins the pair in the kitchen. “Morning” yawns Imogen. Siobhan rolls her eyes and explains to Imogen that it is actually the afternoon. “Late night, great party though” laughs Imogen as she pours herself some coffee. Anthony excuses himself from the kitchen while Imogen pops two paracetamol into her coffee. “Listen Imogen, I’ve been thinking…maybe it’s time…look I think it’s time that maybe you got a place of your own” broaches Siobhan as sensitively as she can. “You’re kicking me out?” asks Imogen. Siobhan explains that the arrangement of Imogen living with them was only meant to be temporary while Anthony recovered from his ordeal. “I’ll go and pack now then” spits Imogen “Imogen, please there’s no rush” “Oh no Siobhan, I’ve obviously put you out for long enough. I’ll start packing now” storms Imogen as she leaves the room.

As Cole walks through the front door, his wife Naomi greets him with panic “Where have you been?” Naomi questions. Cole touches her shoulders in attempt to calm her down “I told you I was at the club this morning, we had a bit of drama with a balcony” He explains. Naomi pulls away “Cole, we have a bit of drama here with our missing son” Cole sighs “Naomi, I spoke to Daniel this morning. Megan is being back on the island can only be a good thing. Where Megan goes, Noah won’t be too far behind” Naomi begins to pace around the living room “I feel sick Cole, I want our son found, but I know that once he is, he’s going straight to a prison cell” Cole pulls Naomi closer to him “We’re going to get through this babe, all of us.” Naomi sniffs “Let’s just hope we get to him first before the police do, or Matthew” Cole pulls away sharply “You have to stop this Naomi, you keep accusing Matthew of stalking us, he’ll sue you for slander or something.” Cole warns.

Down on the beach, Eileen is walking along the shore where she is met by Katherine Lavery, who was walking towards her. “Beautiful day isn’t it?” smiles Katherine politely. “Delightful, reminds me of Bray. It’s a little seaside town in Ireland. I took David there every year on holiday when he was a child” replies Eileen. Katherine smiles and reminisces that she and Siobhan used to holiday in Brighton. “Was it just the two of you?” asks Eileen. Katherine informs her that she only ever had the one child as Siobhan’s father died when Siobhan was young “After Mark, there never really was anyone else…well…until…there was no one else who came close. What about you?” Eileen however avoids answering Katherine’s question and instead tells her that she can understand why David chose to move to Canvey Island, it must remind him of his childhood. “Is everything okay Eileen? It’s just, you don’t seem yourself” tentatively asks Katherine. “I’m fine. Absolutely fine. Now, I really can’t stop here gossiping all day” storms Eileen suddenly before walking off.

Elsewhere at Canvey Island General Hospital, Daniel and Lindsay Hastings are talking about how to deal with daughter Megan’s marriage when Lindsay’s father Duncan Faraday joins them. “Dad” smiles Lindsay as she hugs her father. “How’s Megan?” asks a concerned Duncan. “No change, but she’s getting better all the time” replies Daniel. Lindsay explains to Duncan that the doctors and nurses have been very good since Megan was transferred from Glasgow to Canvey Island. “And any updates on Noah?” Duncan asks as Lindsay visibly tenses at the mention of his name. “No, but the police are keeping a close eye on the hospital in case he turns up” reveals Daniel. Walking past the Hastings and Duncan, a young doctor picks up speed and turns into the nearest available room. Turning to face the door, Noah Donovan begins to panic at what he overheard
Standing on the corner of a street, Anthony nervously checked his phone and his watch. After a few minutes of waiting, he begins pacing the street “Come on” whispers Anthony. “You waiting for someone or do you make a habit of hanging around street corners” laughs Tate Yorke. Anthony smiles and tells him it’s good to see him. “Yeah, you too mate. So, do you fancy a drink?” asks Tate. “Yeah, a drink…cool” replies a nervous yet slightly relaxed Anthony. However, as Anthony and Tate make their way towards the nearest bar, Kyle and Vicki pull up beside them in Matthew’s car. “Aww, are we having a gay day our?” teases Vicki. Anthony tells Tate to ignore her “Is this your special friend Anthony?” laughs Vicki. “Vicki isn’t it? Yeah, Anthony told me about you. I can’t agree though, I think you were too kind… a wannabe gypsy bride with bad roots almost seems complimentary having now met you” announces Tate, his lips twitching with a smile. As a seething Vicki tells Kyle to drive on, Tate smiles at Anthony who then takes his hand. *
Back at the hospital, Daniel, Lindsay and Duncan prepare to leave Megan when Lindsay’s brother Steven and his wife Sophia join them. Steven hugs his sister while Sophia greets Daniel and Duncan. As Noah looks on from the supply room, he sighs as again he can’t get near Megan.
*
“So darling, how was your day?” asks Kayla Macey as she gives foster daughter Molly Campbell her dinner. “Yeah fine” responds Molly. Kayla, sensing that there is more to the story, sits with Molly. “Darling, if there’s something you want to talk about, you know you can talk to me” smiles a sensitive Kayla. Molly explains that she misses her mother “The girls at school were talking, well Lisa was talking. Her mum is taking her on a spa day and I just thought…well, it got me thinking about my mum and how much I miss her” confesses Molly. Kayla tells Molly that it’s okay to miss her mum, it’s natural. “Look darling, I’ll tell you what, why don’t you write to her. Maybe send her a card or a letter. I can help you if you want” Molly smiles and tells Kayla that she’d like that.

Making her way up the main street of Canvey Island towards the beach, Imogen is hauling several suitcases with her. As she stops to light a cigarette, Kyle and Vicki speed past causing some water to splash on Imogen “Oi! You prick” shouts Imogen as Kyle and Vicki continue driving laughing at her. “Oh, can this day get any worse?” sighs Imogen before the heel on one of her shoes breaks. “And there it is.” “Talking to yourself, first sign of madness” jokes a passing Michael Connor. “Oh, I think I’m well past the first sign” exhales an exhausted Imogen. Michael asks her if everything is okay “Oh, if you can call being made homeless by your son’s stepmother okay, then yeah everything is amazing” snaps Imogen as she tries to drag her suitcases along. “Things not going too well with Siobhan I take it?” asks Michael. Imogen explains that she understands that she couldn’t stay with Siobhan forever, but she felt she was finally making progress with Anthony and now she’s back at square one. “Look, I’m sure Anthony is still going to make time for you regardless of the fact you no longer live with him” reasons Michael. “I hope you’re right Michael because regardless of what certain people think around here, I came back for my son, to make it up to him” tears Imogen as the events of the day begin to take their toll. Michael embraces a crying Imogen with a hug. However, Imogen pulls away and looks up into Michael’s eyes and leans in to kiss him.

“Listen mate, I’m sure we can sort this out” reasons Patrick Hale. “Patrick, I saw him this morning, looking at the car and now it’s gone” states an angry Matthew. Patrick sighs and phones foster son Kyle “Kyle, alright mate, it’s Patrick. Where are you?” As Patrick continues to talk to Kyle on the phone, Matthew looks around and sees his car turning around the corner at speed. “Oh crap babes. Look” panics Vicki. “Wasn’t him eh?” smarts Matthew. As Kyle parks the car, Olivia joins the men “Take it easy babe” says Olivia as Matthew opens the door of the car. He grabs Kyle and roughly pulls him out. As Patrick orders Kyle to explain himself, Matthew promises Kyle that he will be getting the police involved. “Look Matt, mate, surely we can sort something out ourselves” pleads Patrick before explaining Kyle’s past and how he and Kayla are trying to give him a better start. Olivia points out that there was no harm done and the car is in one piece. As Matthew reluctantly agrees, Patrick demands that Kyle and Vicki apologise. “Look sorry mate, it’s just a class car” explains Kyle. “You know what mate” Matthew emphasises the word mate “Because you like it so much, you can come and wash and wax it for the next six months” offers Matthew “Six months?” gasps Kyle. “I think that’s fair, don’t you Kyle?” smiles Patrick before Kyle and Matthew shake on it.
*
“I’d like to talk to both of you please, if you have a moment” asks Eileen as David and Michelle finish eating. “Of course ma, is everything okay?” As David and Michelle wait, Eileen opens her bag and takes out the scan photograph, placing it on the table. “Where did you get that?” panics Michelle. “And have I noticed the dates? Yes I have. I know Michelle. I know that the baby you’re carrying couldn’t possibly be my son’s child” reveals Eileen
At the Faradays, Steven and Sophia arrive home met by daughter Mia asking after her cousin “She’s getting better all the time darling” offers Steven. “So when will I be able to see her?” Mia enquires. “Soon sweetheart” replies Sophia. Mia’s phone begins to ring “It’s Anthony, I gotta take this” smiles Mia rushing off. As Mia asks Anthony about his date, Sophia makes her way into the dining room closely followed by Steven. Sophia shows Steven the curtain samples for the nightclub “Just think Soph, the next samples we’ll be looking for will be for the nursery” enthuses Steven. “I guess” offers Sophia, not quite as enthralled by the idea of a new baby. “So maybe we can start trying tonight, what do you think?” teases Steven as he kisses Sophia. Sophia smiles as Steven tells her he’s going to put the dinner on “I’ll need my strength for later” Steven jokes as he leaves the room. Once Steven is safely in the kitchen, Sophia opens her bag and pulls out a small box. Staring at the box, Sophia glances over to the samples for the club. Opening the box, Sophia pops out one of the pills and quickly swallows it. Sighing, Sophia puts the box back in her handbag and joins Steven in the kitchen. *
At the hospital, Lindsay is making her way down the corridor when Noah emerges from the supply room. As a shocked Lindsay comes face to face with him, Noah panics “Lindsay” says Noah before Lindsay slaps him across the face.
*
Back at the Fields, Michelle is pacing the floor while Eileen stares at the scan photograph “How long did ye think ye could get away with this?” asks Eileen furiously. “Well a lot longer if you had kept you nose out” snaps Michelle “Don’t use that tone with me lady. Pretending to have my grandchild, how could you be so cruel?” tears Eileen. “Ma” offers David as he reaches out towards his mother. Eileen pushes David’s hand away. “No son, no. I thought I was going to be a grandmother. I thought…I hoped…I can’t believe my own son would lie to me like this” Eileen sits at the table and sobs. David explains that they didn’t mean to hurt anyone, no one was meant to find out. “Oh and that makes it better does it? I’m ashamed of you, both of you” cries Eileen “And what about us? Don’t you think we’ve found this hard? Don’t you think we’re ashamed? We didn’t have a choice Eileen, please you have to understand” pleads Michelle. Eileen stands up and hands Michelle the scan “Well, you’d better get this reframed then. I’d hate for your lie to come out because of me, but I warn you both, no good comes from lies. The truth always comes out, but I’ll play no part in this. From this moment on, you’re alone. I’m leaving for Ireland tomorrow” announces Eileen. As Eileen makes her way out of the room, David grabs her “Ma, I’m sorry” begs David. “I should hope you are son, but you’re not half as sorry as I am.”
*
At the hospital, Lindsay is reeling as she stands staring at Noah “What the hell are you doing here?” orders Lindsay. “I need to see Megan; I need to know she’s okay.” “Okay? She’s half dead because of you, you and your criminal ways. You’ve ruined her life, my life… your own sister. You can’t be here, get out” snaps an emotional Lindsay. Turning the corner, Daniel is shocked to see his ex-wife pushing and punching Noah. Grabbing his phone and calling the police, Daniel runs towards Lindsay and pins Noah to the wall. Hearing the commotion, Megan leaves her hospital bed and makes her way to the corridor. “Noah…Dad, stop please” screams Megan as she rushes towards the pair, Lindsay grabs Megan and pulls her back. Noticing the confrontation, a nurse calls security “Megs, I came back. I came back babes. I love you” shouts Noah as he tries to overpower Daniel. “Take her back to her room Linds now” orders Daniel. “No, I’m not going anywhere. Dad, please let him go” begs a crying Megan. As Daniel moves away from Noah, Lindsay begs Megan not to listen to him. “I just wanted to make sure she’s okay, I swear” promises Noah. “You expect us to believe a word you say? You’re a criminal” spits Lindsay. Noah tells Megan that he will always love her “I love you too baby” smiles Megan. “I should have known. You haven’t told her, have you?” begins Lindsay. “Lindsay, please not now” pleads Daniel. Noah drops his head. “Told me what?” begs Megan. “It was him. This sorry excuse for a human being, it was him Megan. It was Noah who walked into our pub, our home and destroyed our lives. His mates…his guns. Noah was responsible for the siege” Lindsay lashes out with venom. “You’re lying” Megan looks from Lindsay to Noah, she begs him to answer “Tell me she’s wrong, tell me…tell me it wasn’t you” tears Megan. Noah hangs his head as Lindsay tells him he should be ashamed of himself. “Shut up!” shouts Megan “Noah, please, was it you? Ava…Ava was there, you wouldn’t hurt your own sister. Noah, please?” sobs a begging Megan. “I didn’t have a choice” cries Noah. “Oh my God” stammers Megan as she turns to her father. Collapsing into her father’s arms, Megan cries hopelessly. “I hope you’re pleased with yourself” spits Lindsay as the police arrive. As Noah tries to run, the Hastings watch as the police pin him to the ground and handcuff him. Noah looks up at Megan and mouths “I love you”

2x17: 'Cups of tea were rare on the streets' | Written by Hannah | Episode Thirty Seven It was Friday morning as Megan Donovan lay in her familiar bed at the Crown and Horseshoe; she pulled the duvet tighter around her as she relinquished the warmth she had spent so many months without. Her release from hospital the previous night however was marred by the arrest of her husband Noah as his role in the pub siege nine months previously was exposed to Megan. Megan stared at the wedding ring on her finger, but her train of thought was interrupted by the appearance of her father Daniel Hastings. She sat up as he walked in with a steaming hot cup of tea, Megan eagerly took hold of the cup and smiled as she took a sip “Cups of tea were rare on the streets” Megan pointed out as Daniel stared at her “You shouldn’t have had to live like that” Megan looked down, not knowing what to say “You have to promise me Megan, don’t ever put us through that again” Daniel pleaded. “I’m sorry” Megan whispered. Megan and Daniel sat quietly for a moment “Where’s Mum?” Megan asked. Daniel sighed as he explained that his estranged wife Lindsay was living with her father Duncan Faraday. “I’m sorry Megs; we wanted to wait until you were strong enough. We’re getting a divorce” Daniel revealed.
*
Naomi Donovan slammed down the house phone in frustration causing husband Cole to look up from his nightclub planning notes “Noah’s refusing to see us” Naomi sighed. Daughter Ava looked up from her revision but didn’t say a word. Cole stood up and pulled Naomi close to him “He’s still in shock” Ava stared at her parents in disgust; she stood up angrily “You’re talking like Noah had an accident. Poor Noah sat cold and alone in prison” Ava spat “He deserves to be there for what he did. I could have died, you should be worrying about how this is affecting me” Cole reached towards his daughter, but she pulled away and escaped the room. “We can’t choose between our children Cole” Naomi pointed out. Cole stared at the doorway “As far as Ava is concerned, we’ve already made that choice.”
*
At the Fields home, Eileen Fields stood packing her clothes into her suitcase, her son David stood at the door watching her “You don’t have to do this ma” David said sadly. Eileen looked up at her son and sighed “I think we both know that’s not true.” David walked into the spare bedroom and tried to stop Eileen from packing her clothes “Please ma” Eileen shook her head “I can’t watch you destroy the person you are for this lie.” Eileen said sadly.
*
Lindsay Hastings walked into the Connor and Fitzgerald office and waited for her friend and lawyer Heather Connor to see her. After ten minutes, Lindsay was called into the office where she and Heather exchanged pleasantries. “It must be a relief to have Megan back” Heather smiled. Lindsay shook her head and sighed “It’s all such a mess” Heather perched herself on the edge of her desk and placed her hand on her friend’s shoulder “Megan and Noah got married in Gretna Green” Lindsay blurted out. Heather exhaled in shock “Wow, I don’t quite know what to say to that” Lindsay stood up and began to pace “I need your help Heather; you need to get this farce of a marriage annulled.”
*
Imogen Sandford stood outside the garage as her son Anthony Spencer finished for his break; she passed him a mars bar as they both sat down on the brick wall. “Where are you staying?” Anthony asked. “I stayed in a hotel last night, but I’ve been talking to David and he says Michelle is looking to rent out her flat now she’s living with him” Imogen explained “Maybe I can start putting down some roots” Anthony was distracted as his phone went off, he smiled as he read a text from Tate Yorke. “Care to share?” Imogen asked clearly intrigued. Anthony shrugged “Just a friend.”
*
At the Hale/Macey home, Molly Campbell sat on her bed reading her AS-Level Biology textbook, as she made notes, her foster mother Kayla Macey knocked on the door and walked in with a sandwich “How’s the revision going?” She asked. Molly shrugged “I can’t really concentrate” Molly took the plate from Kayla and thanked her. “I emailed my mum, but she hasn’t replied” Kayla sat down on the bed next to Molly and held out an envelope “This came for you. Well, it’s addressed to you and Kyle” Molly quickly opened the letter and gasped as she pulled out a wedding invitation “My mum. She’s getting married.”
*
Lindsay was stood behind the bar staring into space, screams and gunshots echoed as she remembered the siege in that very pub. She shivered and instinctively brought her hand down to her womb which was no longer there. “Mum” Megan called, startling Lindsay. “Sweetheart, you should be in bed resting” Megan smiled “I’m ok Mum” Megan promised “I’m going over to see Ava” Before Lindsay could argue, Megan left the pub leaving Lindsay to worry. Over in the corner, Michael Connor was sat alone eating lunch, he exhaled deeply as he noticed Imogen walk in and come straight over to him. “You’ve been avoiding my calls Michael, most women would be insulted by that” Michael wiped his mouth with his napkin “I’m sorry Imogen, look, I was out of order yesterday” He admitted. Imogen shrugged “It was me who kissed you, remember?” Michael cringed at the memory “I love my wife” Imogen sat back in her chair “I’m sure you do” Imogen leaned forwards and touched Michael’s hand, this action didn’t go unnoticed by Lindsay who was stood watching from the bar. “You feel it too don’t you Michael, this spark between us” Michael sharply pulled his hand away and stood up “I love my wife” He repeated and left. Imogen noticed Lindsay staring at her; she smiled confidently before leaving the pub herself.
*
Eileen hesitated as she stood on the Faradays’ doorstep; she shook her head and turned around beginning to walk away “Eileen?” Duncan’s voice echoed in the breeze. Eileen sighed and faced Duncan “Hello Duncan” Duncan invited Eileen in and they sat down in the living room with a cup of tea. Duncan urged Eileen to explain what was bothering her; eventually Eileen admitted that she was leaving Canvey Island that night. “But I thought you wanted to be around when Michelle and David’s baby arrived” Duncan questioned. “Plans change” Eileen muttered. “I thought we were getting closer” Duncan admitted sadly. Eileen’s expression softened “You are a wonderful man Duncan and I wish things could be different, but I can’t stay here” Eileen stood up to leave, Duncan followed her to the front door “Can you at least tell me why?” Duncan pressed. Eileen kissed Duncan fondly on the cheek and whispered “Goodbye Duncan.”
Siobhan Spencer and her daughter Emily walked home along the beach carrying their shopping, as they talked about Emily’s upcoming ballet performance they noticed Anthony sat on a blanket on the pebbles “Who’s that with Anthony?” Emily questioned. Siobhan strained her eyes to get a better a look “I’m not sure” Siobhan noted. “Shall we go and say hi?” Emily asked trying to lead Siobhan over, but Siobhan stopped her “I don’t think Anthony needs us cramping his style. He needs some friends around him; he doesn’t want us to embarrass him.”

As Naomi walked into the Last Minute Supermarket, manager Katherine Lavery immediately fell silent during her conversation with Sophia Faraday. Naomi ignored the stares of the women and tried her best to carry on with her shopping. However, as Naomi approached the counter she picked up the local newspaper which had a photograph of her son Noah on the front page. Naomi dropped the newspaper in shock as Katherine shook her head in disgust “He’s still my son” Naomi protested and escaped the shop empty handed. Once outside, she literally ran into her sister Olivia Kane “Naomi, what’s wrong?” Olivia asked seeing Naomi’s distress. Naomi could barely speak and just burst into tears, Olivia led her towards a nearby bench and the sisters sat down. Olivia admitted that she had heard about Noah’s arrest “You didn’t call” Naomi pointed out. Olivia looked down “I wanted to, but things haven’t exactly been great between us recently” Naomi stood up “I needed my sister, but you’ve been sat planning your perfect little wedding” Olivia followed Naomi down the street “Don’t you dare, I won’t apologise for being happy, despite your attempts to ruin my relationship” Naomi stopped “I’m not having this conversation again. I’ve apologised and explained why I lied about my history with Matthew. There is something not right with that man and you’ll see it eventually.” Naomi warned and walked away.

At the Canvey Island police station, Chloe Charles was sat in the front interview room waiting for PC Harry Campbell; finally he arrived and sat down at the table opposite Chloe. “Is everything ok?” He asked wondering why Chloe had been so anxious to see him. “You’re going to think this is weird, but I want to see her” Chloe explained. “See who?” Harry questioned. “The girl, the one who was attacked” Harry was taken aback by Chloe’s request “I don’t think that’s a good idea Chloe” Chloe sighed “Please Harry, I think it would help, maybe I wouldn’t feel so alone” Harry sat back and thought for a moment “I guess there’s no harm in asking, but Chloe, don’t be upset if she doesn’t want to.” As Harry led Chloe out of the station, Megan passed them and made her way to the reception desk “I’m here to see my husband Noah Donovan.”
*
As Kayla dumped the pile of washing on the floor by the washing machine, she knelt down to sort through the clothes. She gasped as a small packet fell out of foster son Kyle’s trousers, her partner Patrick Hale noticed her curse and took the packet out of Kayla’s hands “Drugs” Patrick shook his head “I suppose a junkie isn’t too far from being a car thief” Patrick ranted as Kayla tried to calm him down. “We’ll sit him down together and talk to him” Patrick shook his head “How many times have we sat him down Kayla? The drinking, bunking off school with Vicki Connor. He’s crossed a line this time Kayla, bringing drugs into our house in unacceptable” Kayla watched as Patrick paced the kitchen “What can we do?” Kayla questioned. “Call the police, like I should have done yesterday when he stole Matthew Fitzgerald’s car” Patrick stormed. “No you can’t” Kayla pleaded “We’ve come so far, especially with Molly. She trusts us, how will she feel if we take her brother away?” Patrick sighed and stared at Kayla “We’ve been too soft with him, it stops now Kayla” Patrick grabbed his coat “Where are you going?” Kayla called. “For a pint.”
*
As Harry walked back to the station from the Last Minute Supermarket, he was stopped in his tracks as he bumped into his younger sister “Molly” He whispered. Molly stared at Harry and without a word; carried on walking “I should have been in touch” Harry called after her. Molly ignored her brother, but he chased after her “I’m sorry” Molly looked at Harry with a painful expression “For what Harry? Letting mum drink herself into rehab or not stepping in when we were taken from our beds in the middle of the night?” Harry flinched at the reminder of their mother Chrissie’s self-destruction. “I was a mess after what happened to Beth, I know it’s no excuse, but I was in no state of mind to take on two teenagers” Harry defended. “Your brother and sister you mean” Molly glared at Harry. “I’m sorry” He muttered. “Not enough.” She sighed.
*
Megan coldly stared at Noah as she sat opposite him, being watched carefully by the police officer stood by the door “What’s going to happen to you next?” Megan asked bluntly. “I’m being charged, I’m in court tomorrow morning. They don’t think I’ll get bail” Noah explained “Megs, I’m so sorry” Megan shook her head “I don’t want to hear it Noah. I was there that night, those men threw me around like a broken doll and you just stood there and let them do it. You stood there and watched them terrorise our friends and family. You let them shoot my mother, and Ava, your own sister. There’s no explaining this Noah” Noah dropped his head in his hands “I had no choice” He muttered. “And now you have to live with the consequences” Megan stood up and pulled off her wedding ring, she placed it on the table in front of Noah. “My mum thinks we should get this marriage annulled. I think that’s too much like pretending it never happened, but I do want a divorce Noah. As far as I’m concerned, this marriage is over.”
*
Duncan stood outside the Fields’ home with a bunch of carnations, however before he had the chance to knock, he heard raised voices from the other side of the door. Inside the house, Eileen was dragging her suitcase into the hallway “There has to be another way ma, please” David was pleading with his mother. “That woman has corrupted you, I don’t even recognise you anymore David. You don’t even seem to understand how wrong these lies are. You’re pretending to be a father to a child that isn’t yours. And what about the real father? Doesn’t he have the right to know?” David shook his head “He used Michelle when he wasn’t getting any attention at home then tossed her aside when he was done. He doesn’t deserve to be a father to this child, but I do” David protested. Eileen pulled David’s face into her hands “You will make a wonderful father David, but I won’t play a part in this travesty” David held onto his mother’s hands “I need you ma” Eileen shook her head and pulled away from her son “You’ve made your choice David and now I’ve made mine.” Back outside, Duncan slowly backed away from the house, feeling a mixture of guilt for intruding on Eileen’s business and of shock as he struggled to comprehend David and Michelle’s lies

2x18: 'Well my mother can be counted on for two things... bagging a rich husband... and turning the eventual divorce to her advantage' | Written by Joe | Episode Thirty Eight The dawn sunlight breaks over the shore over Canvey Island as Duncan Faraday walks alone along the beach in the cold November wind. As he watches as the waves crash onto the shore, he uncomfortably thinks back to the conversation he overheard between Eileen and David Fields a few days previously. Making his way towards the exit of the beach towards the main street, he bumps into Kayla Macey. “Morning, you’re out and about early this morning” says Duncan. “I could say the same to you” replies an exhausted sounding Kayla. Duncan explains that he finds this time of the morning the most calming, watching the sun rise and the waves crash against the beach. “It gives me time to think” reveals a pensive Duncan. “Weight of the world and all that is it?” asks Kayla. “Could I say the same for you?” smiles Duncan, avoiding the question. The pair part company as Duncan makes his way home, while Kayla begins jogging along the beach.

Lying alone in a cold prison cell, Noah Donovan wakes after his first night in prison. He shivered as he remembered standing nervously in the court room the previous morning; his mother Naomi and father Cole watching in devastation as he was denied bail. Sitting up and taking in his surroundings, Noah feels completely alone. Reaching under his pillow, Noah pulls out a photograph of his wife Megan Donovan. He then kisses the photograph sadly before standing up and getting dressed. “Come along Donovan” orders a prison officer as he appeared at the cell doorway. As Noah follows the prison officer towards the shower dorm, the officer tells Noah to go ahead of him. Once inside the shower dorm, Noah fails to notice that another prisoner has given the officer an envelope. “Donovan?” asks the prisoner. “Yeah, what’s it to you?” responds a suspicious Noah. “I’ve got something for you. From Tommy” As Noah backs away, the prisoner sinisterly walks towards him before we see from the shadows on the wall that the prisoner is savagely beating Noah up.

At the Last Minute Supermarket, manager Katherine Lavery is stocking shelves as her boss Duncan briskly walks past her. “And hello to you too” jokes Katherine. Duncan apologises and explains to Katherine that he was a million miles away. “Is everything okay Duncan?” asks a concerned Katherine. “Nothing for you to worry about” sighs Duncan. As Duncan walks away from her, Katherine is pained by her friend’s hurt.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan Donovan is standing at the bar when her father Daniel Hastings joins her. “You okay darling?” a concerned Daniel asks. “I’m fine Dad, honest” faintly smiles Megan. “You know you can talk to me darling, about anything” offers Daniel before he heads off to serve Josh Connor who had appeared at the bar. Megan smiles brightly as her best friend Ava Donovan walks through the doors “Hey chick, welcome home” smiles Ava before hugging Megan. “Ava, it’s so good to see you” Megan asks Ava to join her through the back. Meanwhile, Josh joins his partner Siobhan Spencer at their regular table in the corner of the pub “Congratulations darling, I’m so proud of you” Siobhan announces as she makes a toast to Josh celebrating his new job at the Canvey Island Observer. “To us” replies Josh as the couple clink glasses and drink their champagne.

A nervous Anthony Spencer is standing outside a huge house on the opposite side of Canvey Island. Having knocked at the door, he turns to smell his breath. However, he is interrupted by Tate Yorke as he opened the front door. “I’m sure it’s fine, and if not I’ve got some gum” jokes a smiling Tate before inviting Anthony in. “Your house is huge” gasps Anthony as he takes in the size of the hallway with its dual stairway. “It’s not about the size, it’s what you do with it” teases Tate before revealing that his mother likes big spaces. “She’s not one for clutter my mum, bit clinical really, but that’s enough about her. Lunch is served” gimmicks Tate as he bows before a grinning Anthony.

Making his way home, Patrick Hale passes Naomi Donovan. As Naomi bumps into Patrick, he staggers to the side. “Oi, where’s the fire” shouts Patrick as Naomi shouts back her apology. “Donovans” Patrick shakes his head before continuing to make his way home. Naomi hears her phone beep and checks it apprehensively. A new picture message has been received from an anonymous number. Taking a deep breath, Naomi opens the message. She frowns as she views her husband Cole looking cosy with Sophia Faraday, a caption reading ‘Mixing business with pleasure?’ Naomi slams her phone back into her bag before walking into Connor and Fitzgerald Solicitors. Back the Macey/Hale household; Patrick lets himself into his foster son Kyle Campbell’s bedroom. Looking around, Patrick desperately tries to find more drugs to confront Kyle with, however, he comes across a hidden mobile phone. Trying to turn the phone on, Patrick finds that it is password protected. “Gottcha” smiles Patrick.

Upstairs at the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan is making some drinks for her and Ava. Ava, sitting at the kitchen table tells Megan she’ll take two spoons of sugar in her hot chocolate “Oh how I’ve missed hot chocolate. All we’re missing is Ryan Reynolds and a trashy film” jokes Megan as she hands Ava her cup. As Ava sips from her cup, Megan checks her phone for messages. However, a photograph of Megan with husband Noah flashes up on the screen as Megan’s screensaver. “You should delete that” sternly says Ava. Megan nods in agreement “Well go on then” pushes Ava. “I’ll do it later chick, so tell me all the gossip” smiles Megan awkwardly. Ava stands up and sighs. Shaking her head, she heads towards the door. “Avs, where are you going?” asks Megan. “I came over here to see you, see how you are, but I’ve got my answer don’t I? Still besotted with him. Still sucked in by his lies. You’re a fool Megan” snaps Ava. Megan stands up and demands Ava explain herself. “You were there that night. How can you still care for him, it was his fault Megan. He brought those men here, they shot me and your Mum. You should hate him” shouts Ava as Megan moves towards her. “Just because I haven’t deleted some stupid photo on my phone doesn’t mean that I’m not hurt and upset and angry… because I am Ava. He’s the love of my life and now… now I’ve lost him to something I can’t even understand” tears Megan. “He’s my brother and I hate him Megan, I really hate him” announces Ava
Back at the Macey/Hale home, Kayla returns home early from work to find a seething Patrick sitting at the kitchen table looking at Kyle’s second mobile phone “You alright darling, I’m thinking a curry for dinner. You do remember I’ve invited Harry over” says Kayla as she puts the shopping in the fridge. Patrick however remains silent before Kayla turns around to face him. “What’s wrong darling?” asks a concerned Kayla before Patrick pushes the phone towards her. Kayla jokes that she’s happy with the phone she already has. “Unless it’s an early Christmas present?” Patrick frowns and tells Kayla that he doesn’t find the fact that their foster son is dealing drugs. “Dealing drugs… come off it darling.” “He’s obviously using this phone for his…clients…his junkies” spits Patrick before Kayla joins him at the table. Taking Patrick’s hands in hers, Kayla faintly stares at Patrick “What are we going to do?” “I wish I knew” offers a concerned Patrick.

“Just a minute” calls Michelle Fox as she rushes to answer the door. “Duncan, come in, hi how are you?” asks Michelle as Duncan makes his way inside. Duncan apologises for calling by unannounced. Michelle dismisses this and asks Duncan if he’d like something to drink. “Actually Michelle, I was wondering if you had heard anything from Eileen. It’s just that I haven’t heard from her since she left a few days ago… so abruptly.” Michelle turns away from Duncan and informs him that Eileen arrived home safely “I mean, she was only ever visiting for a short time” panics Michelle. “That’s not the impression I got from her” responds Duncan. Michelle explains that Eileen wanted to return home “I mean her life is in Ireland” reasons Michelle. Duncan walks towards Michelle “Eileen prides herself as a family woman, family means the world to her, wouldn’t you agree?” pushes Duncan as Michelle nods in agreement “Then can you explain to me why Eileen, a family woman would leave her son when he needs his ‘ma’ the most. I mean, the birth of David’s child, Eileen’s grandchild should be high priority, wouldn’t you agree?” asks a forceful Duncan. Michelle uncomfortably moves away from Duncan and lies that Eileen and David have had a falling out over some land in Ireland. “Oh I understand that they’ve fallen out. This is none of my business and I may be overstepping the mark here Michelle, but I heard it all Michelle, the argument between Eileen and David, I know that David isn’t the father of your unborn child” announces Duncan as Michelle reels in shock “And because of your lies, Eileen choose to leave Canvey Island, am I getting close to the truth now Michelle?”
*
Meanwhile, at the Canvey Island Observer, Josh arrives for a meeting with his new boss. “Joshua, Andrea Yorke, lovely to finally meet you” smiles Andrea as she greets Josh with a handshake before leaning in to kiss him on the cheek. As Andrea smiles at Josh, Josh stands nervously taken aback by Andrea’s forwardness. “Don’t worry I don’t bite” laughs Andrea “Unless you want me too” She teases as she gestures Josh to follow her into her office. “Take a seat” Andrea smiles as she leans forward in her seat, she stares at Josh for a moment “Now Joshua, I work in facts. Real facts and I like getting to the very heart of a story. The who, the where, the when and most importantly the why of a story” explains Andrea, her voice husky leaving Josh with goose bumps. Josh flinches slightly. “Am I making you nervous Joshua?” “Not at all” says Josh clearing his throat. “That’s a shame” Andrea grins “A few nerves gets the blood pumping.” Meanwhile, over at Tate’s house, Anthony is following Tate as they enter the living area of the Yorke home “Wow, this place is as big as my whole house” stuns Anthony. “Well my mother can be counted on for two things...bagging a rich husband...and turning the eventual divorce to her advantage” reveals Tate. Anthony laughs before asking Tate if he gets on with his mother. “We tolerate each other, but there’s love there somewhere, I just haven’t witnessed it since 2007” laughs Tate. Anthony looks at the photographs on the mantelpiece “Is this her?” Anthony asks as he holds up a photograph of a woman. “Yep, that’s her. The black widow” confirms Tate, revealing the woman in the photograph to be Andrea, Josh’s new boss.

“Where have you been all day?” snaps Naomi as her husband Cole walks through the front door. “I’ve been working” Cole replies. Naomi berates Cole for spending so much time with Sophia when his family needs him “I’m here for my family Naomi, I’m just trying to provide for you” barks Cole. “Well, I’ve been ringing you all day, why didn’t you answer or let me guess ‘I was busy with the club’.” As Cole sighs, he questions Naomi’s neurotic rant. “I needed you today Cole. I’ve asked Heather Connor to take on Noah’s case” begins Naomi as she becomes emotional. Cole clasps his wife in his arms. Suddenly, the phone rings. Cole answers and is startled by the news “Okay, right, okay. We’ll be there right away” Cole hangs up the phone and turns to Naomi. “What is it? What’s wrong?” panics Naomi. Cole explains to Naomi that Noah has been attacked in prison and has been taken to hospital.

At the Macey/Hale household, Patrick and Kayla welcome the twins’ older brother Harry Campbell to their home. “I hope you like curry” smiles Kayla as Harry nods in agreement. “A beer mate?” asks Patrick. Harry accepts Patrick’s offer as they are joined by sister Molly. “Hi Molly” offers Harry. Molly grunts in response to her brother. In the kitchen, Kayla is preparing the dinner when Patrick joins her “Where’s Kyle?” asks Patrick as Kyle arrives home. Patrick asks Kyle where he had been “Alright Poirot, relax” jokes Kyle. Patrick demands Kyle to be more respectful, he’s enough trouble as it is, but they can deal with that later. “Look darling, Harry is here for dinner. I did tell you to be home early” says Kayla trying to defuse the situation. Kyle angrily tells them that he has no interest in talking to Harry. Patrick warns Kyle to behave and he will join them for dinner. Hearing the commotion from the other room, Harry enters the kitchen followed by Molly. “Everything alright, anything I can do to help?” asks Harry. “You can leave” snaps Kyle. Patrick and Kayla both demand Kyle to apologise. “No he shouldn’t have to” announces Molly “Harry hasn’t apologised for abandoning us. Go on Harry tell them. Tell Kayla and Patrick how you let me and Kyle be taken into care” Harry tries to explain that he was in a bad place. “Yeah well so were we Harry. Mum had just been carted off to rehab” snaps Kyle angrily “Luke was nowhere to be found and you… you just abandoned us.” Kayla and Patrick try to calm the situation. “I couldn’t help Kyle, I wasn’t in a place to help” reasons Harry. “What happened in the past is just that, it’s in the past. We need to move forward and Molly has some news that might help you all to do that. Go on Mol” smiles an encouraging Kayla. “It’s Mum, she’s been in touch” offers Molly as Kyle throws his eyes to heaven. “She wants us… well Kyle and I… to go to her wedding.” As Harry and Kyle reel, Molly looks hopeful that her brothers will back her.

At the Fields/Fox home, Michelle is standing stunned as Duncan stares at her. “You must be mistaken Duncan.” “Don’t play me for a fool Michelle, your sick lie… you and David… your lies have driven Eileen from Canvey Island and you stand there with the nerve to deny it. I heard every word Michelle” spits Duncan. Michelle begins to pace the floor. Turning to face Duncan, she asks what he’s going to do now he knows the truth. “I don’t know Michelle, I don’t want to be in this position” confesses Duncan. “Well are you going to tell him?” asks Michelle. “Who?” replies Duncan. Michelle pauses for a moment “No one. Look Duncan, David and I are doing this for the best. If the truth got out, a lot of people could get hurt. You have to believe me, I’m doing this for the best” sighs Michelle. Duncan tells Michelle that at this present moment, he can’t trust her. “This isn’t your secret to tell Duncan. To be frank, none of this is any of your business, so please, I’m begging you. Say nothing” pleads Michelle. As Duncan stands to leave the room, Michelle follows him “Please wait” calls Michelle. Stopping at the door, Duncan turns to face Michelle. “My mother always told me that if you ever learn a secret, unless you can use it, forget you ever heard it” reveals Duncan. “And this secret, what are you going to do?” asks a panicked Michelle. “I don’t know Michelle, I really don’t know” Duncan sighs

2x19: 'Us single ladies could do with a few new prince charmings on the market' | Written by Hannah | Episode Thirty Nine It was breakfast time at the Faraday’s house as Duncan Faraday sat quietly reading the local newspaper, his daughter Lindsay Hastings sung quietly to herself as she set the table while his son Steven joined them in the dining room “You’re in a good mood today Linds” Steven commented. Lindsay shrugged “I’m taking Megan shopping today, to take her mind of things” She explained. “I don’t think a couple of new dresses are going to make her forget her husband being beaten up” Steven reminded. Lindsay frowned, annoyed with her brother for bringing up Noah’s prison attack. “Megan will be here soon, try not to take your foot out of your mouth” Lindsay warned. Before Steven could say anything else, his teenage daughter Mia walked in carrying the post “This is for you Aunty Lindsay” Mia smiled holding out a large envelope towards Lindsay, she thanked her niece and stared at the envelope “Is something wrong sweetheart?” Duncan asked. Lindsay looked at her father “It’s my decree absolute” Lindsay muttered “I’m officially a single woman again.”

Cole Donovan walked into his son Noah’s ward at Canvey Island General Hospital and gently pulled the blanket back over his wife Naomi, who was curled up on the chair fast asleep. Noah stirred awake as Cole pulled a chair across and sat down next to him. “How you doing?” Cole asked. Noah held his ribs as he tried to sit up “I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus and then reversed over for good measure” Noah tried to laugh, but Cole sat staring at him stone faced. “I was in prison long enough to know this was no slip in the shower” Noah frowned and shook his head. “Well then you also know that it pays to keep quiet.”
*
Michelle Fox stood staring out the living room window clutching hold of her cup of tea “You’re not ready for work” Her partner David Fields observed. “I can’t face seeing him” Michelle explained. “What if Duncan told him?” Michelle panicked. David sighed “I think we’d know if Steven found out that I wasn’t the father of your baby” Michelle turned around and began to pace around, ranting about Duncan and Steven. David cut her off annoyed “My relationship with my mother is in ruins and all you can think about is Steven bloody Faraday” David grabbed his coat and walked out, leaving Michelle taken aback by his outburst.

Kayla Macey lay in bed on her day off, watching as her partner Patrick Hale got ready for work “I think we should talk to Kyle tonight” Patrick sighed “We can’t let this go on any longer. I won’t watch drugs destroy someone else I care about” Patrick confided. Kayla agreed, but worried how Kyle would take it after the previous night’s disastrous dinner, where Molly revealed their mother’s wedding invitation. “Molly is mature enough to make her own decisions, if Kyle doesn’t like that, well, he just has to live with it” Kayla got out of bed and pulled on her dressing gown “Molly’s asked me to go to the wedding with her” Kayla explained “She needs my support and so does Kyle.” Patrick nodded “We’ll talk to him tonight” Patrick promised.

Michael Connor and his wife Heather were arguing in the car as they dropped their youngest Jake off at school “I’m just doing my job Michael, this isn’t some personal war between us” Heather protested as Michael continued to berate her for her decision to defend Noah Donovan against his armed robbery charges. “So explain to me Heather how you can stand in a courtroom and fight for his freedom? Josh was in the pub that night, it could have been him shot fighting his life” Michael raised his voice angrily “You watched me work myself into the ground to get the men responsible for the siege and now you’re going to try and rip my case to pieces” Heather swerved the car to avoid hitting the curb forcing Michael to curse. Heather stopped the car abruptly outside the school “It’s not as clear cut as you think Michael. Noah was bullied and blackmailed by the Thompsons, he’s a victim in this too” Heather tried to explain, but Michael scoffed “The scariest part of all this is, you actually believe what you’re saying.” Jake tried to get his parents’ attention as he opened the car door “Thanks Mum, thanks Dad. I’m sure the test will be fine” Jake muttered as he slammed the door.

Ava Donovan sat uncomfortably in the school library trying to concentrate on her Psychology revision; she looked up to notice a group of Year 11 students staring at her. Ava sighed and looked down at her text book. “I heard her brother got beaten up” Vicki Connor taunted loudly. Ava felt her eyes water, but she tried to ignore the gossiping of the other students, but soon it became too much. Ava slammed her text book shut and escaped the library, crashing into teacher Steven Faraday in the process. “Ava” Steven whispered “Are you ok?” Ava shook her head “You don’t have to be nice to me” She sniffed. Steven smiled softly “It’s all water under the bridge” He paused for a moment “Do you think I should forgive him?” Ava questioned. Steven sighed “Only you know the answer to that Ava” He responded. “My mum does” Ava divulged. “He doesn’t deserve my forgiveness.” Ava continued, but stopped. “I have to go; I can’t be here right now” Ava walked away leaving Steven wondering what he could do to help.

Chloe Charles sipped her champagne as she waited in the bridal shop in Portsmouth for her best friend Olivia Kane to reveal the wedding dress she had chosen. Finally, Olivia walked out in a beautiful lace gown causing Chloe to jump up and spill the champagne over the carpet “You look stunning” Chloe beamed moving forward and lightly touching the delicate lace “This is the one Chlo, it’s perfect” Olivia squealed. Olivia walked over to the full length mirror “I can’t believe this is really happening” Olivia felt choked up. “It’s about time one of us gets a happy ending” Chloe smiled. “You’ll get there in the end Chlo; look how far you’ve come since…” Olivia let the sentence trail off. Chloe nodded “I met her, Nicki, the other victim” She admitted. “You never told me that” Olivia said. “It really helped, she’s going to meet me again for a coffee” Chloe told Olivia. “I’m glad you have someone to talk to Chlo, someone who really does know what you’re going through” Chloe shook her head “Let’s stop this, today is a happy day. When do I get to see my dress?” Chloe laughed
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Imogen Sandford was searching the job section of the Canvey Island Observer, circling the ones that interested her. She noticed landlord Daniel Hastings staring at a letter “Final demands?” Imogen joked. Daniel looked up and walked towards her “My divorce came through” He admitted sadly. “Think of it as a new beginning” Imogen encouraged “Besides, us single ladies could do with a few new prince charmings on the market.” Daniel laughed and thanked Imogen for trying to cheer him up. “Pint please Daniel” Michael ordered as he slammed into the bar. “Bad day?” Daniel asked. Michael nodded “Now I know why my father told me marrying a lawyer was a bad idea” Imogen looked over at Michael “I’ll get this Daniel” She offered. Michael sat down on a stool and thanked Imogen for the drink.

Michelle walked towards the garage carrying a lunchbox for David; she greeted Patrick as he walked past her on his way to lunch. She apologised to David for being insensitive about his situation with Eileen “I never meant to come between you and your mum” Michelle explained. David sighed “I don’t want to do this now Michelle” David warned. “You have to talk to me about this David, I can take it” She promised. David stared at her sadly “I need some time to think” Michelle gasped “About what? Us?” David paced around the garage “This situation has got out of hand, it was supposed to be about us raising a child. Now more and more people know the truth, I can’t see how this is going to work anymore Michelle” David tried to explain his thoughts, but Michelle was beginning to panic “Are you trying to tell me you’ve changed your mind?” David shook his head as he faced Michelle “Stop putting words into my mouth” He raised his voice, leading Michelle to do the same “You said we were in this together” Michelle stormed out of the garage leaving David frustrated.

Vicki giggled as her boyfriend Kyle Campbell kissed her passionately on the lips; he smiled as he pulled out a small plastic wallet containing ecstasy pills “Fancy making this afternoon a little more interesting?” He asked. Vicki laughed and nodded. Kyle placed a pill on his tongue and kissed Vicki passing along the pill. The couple carried on kissing and slowly removing their clothes. However, before things could move any further, Kyle’s foster father Patrick interrupted them rolling his eyes “I’ve got a major sense of déjà vu right now” Patrick sighed. “I’ll be calling your parents later on Vicki” Patrick informed as Vicki quickly squeezed past him. A shirtless Kyle lay back on his bed smugly, frustrating Patrick even more.
*
Naomi watched husband Cole texting on his phone as son Noah lay asleep “Sophia?” She questioned. Cole sighed in frustration “She’s finalising the cocktail menu” He explained. “Right” Naomi muttered. “You have to stop this Naomi” Cole whispered hoarsely, trying not to wake up Noah. “I didn’t say a word” Naomi defended. “You didn’t have to” Cole frowned. He sat down on the chair next to Naomi and pulled her hands into his “I know how much pressure you’ve been under lately Naomi. Worrying about Noah and fighting with your sister, I think maybe you should see someone. Maybe the doctor could give you something, you know, to help you cope with things” Naomi abruptly pulled her hands away “You think I’m depressed?” Naomi barked in disbelief. “I think you should go home Cole” Naomi grunted. “You can’t bury your head in the sand for much longer Naomi” Cole cautioned as he left.
*
Heather crashed into Imogen as she rushed out of the Last Minute Supermarket, her bag of shopping ripping open and spilling the contents onto the pavement. Imogen bent down and helped Heather to pick up her shopping. “I’m sorry about Michael, I heard you’re having some problems” Imogen stirred. Heather glared at Imogen “Michael and I are fine, not that it has anything to do with you” Imogen laughed. “Always the same Heather, you put on this act. Perfect wifey, shame Michael doesn’t know who you really are” Imogen said an element of a threat in her voice. Heather frowned “Whatever happened in the past is exactly that Imogen, why rake over it all now?” Imogen shrugged “Because I can” She answered. Imogen handed Heather the tins of baked beans that were in her hands and leaned in close “You ruined my marriage Heather and when the time is right, I will ruin yours.”

As the twins and Patrick finished their dinner, Kayla cleaned the table of their plates. Before Kyle could go anywhere, Patrick ordered him to stay in his seat. Molly looked from Patrick to Kayla awkwardly “Are we in trouble?” Molly asked. “You’ve done nothing wrong sweetheart” Kayla reassured Molly. “Then it’s me as per usual then” Kyle scoffed. Patrick stared at Kyle as he pulled out the small bag of ecstasy tablets and the mobile phone and demanded an explanation “They ain’t mine” Kyle protested. “Kyle, we found them in your jeans” Kayla pointed out. “We won’t tolerate drugs in our house, I’ve seen the damage they cause” Patrick said emotionally. “I told you they ain’t mine” Kyle maintained standing up, Patrick stood up angrily so that he was level with Kyle “And I don’t believe you” Kyle leaned in close to Patrick confrontationally “I don’t care what you believe, you ain’t my dad” Kyle spat. Kayla pulled Kyle away and spoke sternly “We may not be your parents Kyle, but Patrick and I are responsible for your welfare and we care about you both so much. But we won’t be treated like this” Kayla looked towards Patrick, who stepped forwards. “You’ll be working at the garage every afternoon after school” Kyle groaned in frustration “And you’ll stay away from Vicki Connor.” Patrick warned.

Chloe poured herself a glass of wine as she finished finalising her ideas for Olivia’s hen night; she smiled as she happily ordered the special printed t-shirts she had found online. She jumped at the sound of the buzzer; she took a deep breath as she checked out the window. She smiled as she saw Harry Campbell standing on her doorstep. She let him in and offered him a glass of wine, which he declined. “You look like you have something to tell me” Chloe pointed out suspiciously as Harry sat down on the sofa. “We got him Chloe” Harry blurted out. Chloe felt her legs fail her as she slide down onto the sofa next to Harry “Chloe, are you ok?” Harry asked. Chloe nodded “I just can’t believe it, I honestly thought this moment would never happen” Harry smiled softly and continued “He attempted to attack another woman last night, but she managed to hit him with a brick unconscious and called the police. He’s in custody now and we’re charging him with attempted rape and two counts of rape. We’re waiting for the DNA test to confirm he was the one who attacked you and Nicki, but that’s just to make sure all the boxes are ticked.” Harry explained. Chloe rested her head on Harry’s shoulder “It’s really all over” She sighed with relief. “Almost, he’s denying all charges. I’m so sorry Chloe, you will have to testify in court, but I’ll help you through it, every step of the way.” Harry promised

Meanwhile, at the Fields’ home, Michelle Fox is sitting at the kitchen table. Across the table from her, sits her partner David Fields who is reading the Canvey Island Observer. “Would you like more tea?” asks Michelle. “No” replies David sharply. Michelle then stands and begins clearing away the breakfast dishes. Standing at the sink, Michelle begins talking about the school book fair which is taking place later at Canvey Comprehensive. David however just grunts. “David, can you at least pretend to sound interested?” pushes Michelle. “Oh, you want me to sound interested. Oh, I’m really interested. So will you be spending the day swooning over Steven?” snaps David before walking out of the room. Michelle however chases after him. “David… David, stop” yells Michelle as she finally catches up to David at his car. Michelle explains that she doesn’t understand where David’s issues about Steven have come from. “Steven Faraday is the father of your child and my mother chose to leave, and all you can think about is him, how he’s going to react. My Ma left Canvey Island because she couldn’t face seeing what I have turned into, turned into for you” reveals David. “That’s not fair David, you can’t blame me for that” responds Michelle defensively. “No you’re right; I can’t blame you for it. I wanted to help you. I love you Michelle, but what I can blame you for is the fact that you don’t even care that my Ma left because of our lies” softly announces David before leaving Michelle reeling by his outburst.

Over at the Macey/Hale household, Kayla Macey is helping her foster daughter Molly Campbell get ready for her mother Chrissie’s wedding “So an up style or something less fussy?” asks Kayla. Molly smiles and turns around to face Kayla. “Thank you. I really mean it. Thank you for coming with me today, it really means a lot.” Molly hugs Kayla, who becomes quite emotional by Molly’s declaration. “Okay, before I turn into a blubbering mess, hair up or down?” asks Kayla as she dries her tears. Molly laughs and tells Kayla she’d like an up style.

At the Last Minute Supermarket, Daniel Hastings is doing some shopping when he is joined by Imogen Sandford. “Nothing, well, nothing decent anyway” announces Imogen as she slams the newspaper back onto one of the shelves. Daniel asks Imogen if everything is okay. Imogen explains that she’s struggling to find work. “Oh well, I suppose I could see if I have a couple of shifts going in the pub over Christmas, it’s always a busy time of year” offers Daniel. “Oh wow, brilliant, when do I start?” asks an enthusiastic Imogen. As Daniel explains that he’ll need to look at the rota, they are joined by an arguing Michael and Heather Connor. “Trouble in paradise?” asks Imogen with a smirk. “That’s none of your business Imogen” snaps Heather before Michael apologises for Heather’s sharpness. Imogen smiles “It’s okay Heather, I accept your apology.”

“Joshua, can I have a word in my office please?” asks newspaper editor Andrea Yorke before winking at Josh Connor. “Don’t worry, you’re not in trouble.” As Josh follows Andrea into her office, she closes the door behind him while taking in the view of Josh’s backside. Biting her lip, Andrea tells Josh that she has an assignment for him. “Okay, what is it?” asks an exited Josh. “I need you to cover the school book fair” reveals Andrea. As a disheartened Josh agrees to his assignment, Andrea calls to him as he leaves the room “Joshua, you will get more exciting gigs… once our bond has strengthened” smiles Andrea seductively.

Arriving at Harrington Hall, Kayla and Molly take in the beautiful view. Stepping inside the reception hall, Molly is greeted by a huge Christmas tree decorated in gold and red with flashing lights illuminating the hall. “Wow” exhales Molly. “It’s really beautiful” reiterates Kayla. Kayla then leaves Molly to warm herself by the enormous fireplace which is crackling with the sound of the log burning in the heat. At the reception desk, Kayla asks where the Campbell/Willis wedding is taking place. After getting the directions, Kayla and Molly make their way up the grand staircase
“I don’t know any of these people” panics Molly “None of our family is here; maybe we have the wrong room. What if she’s lied, what if she’s not getting married.” Kayla puts her arm around Molly and pulls her close. “Darling, I’m sure she hasn’t lied. The bride has to be late, it’s tradition” reasons Kayla.

At Faradays Restaurant, Olivia Kane is hugging her best friend Chloe Charles “This is the best news” says Olivia. Chloe whispers to Olivia that she is so relieved. As the girls sit at a table, they are soon joined by Duncan Faraday who takes their order. Once Duncan is out of sight, Chloe begins to open up to Olivia. “I know the news is great and believe me I am so relieved, but now, I have to face him…in court” stammers Chloe as she explains to Olivia what PC Harry Campbell told her about the trial. “I know you must be scared and this must be so daunting, but Chloe you have the chance now to nail that bastard for what he did. You deserve the chance to face him, to show him that what he did didn’t break you. You’re stronger than he is, he is a weak little man and you, you are my best friend and I know you can do this” announces Olivia as Chloe smiles at her friend’s support.
*
At Canvey Comprehensive, Michelle is sorting out some books. Suddenly her phone rings. “Hell, yes it is…oh that’s perfect. And I can pick them up this evening? Thank you.” As Michelle hangs up her phone, she is joined by Vicki Connor. Picking up the Shawshank Redemption, Vicki calls out to Ava “Oi Ava, I think you might like this one, it’s about prison” laughs Vicki. Michelle demands Vicki to behave and apologise to Ava. Vicki just grunts an apology before Ava makes her way to the exit. Michelle follows her but stops in her tracks when Steven Faraday comes into sight “Is everything okay Ava?” asks a concerned Steven. “I’m fine Sir” barks Ava as she rushes off.

“Cole” shouts Naomi Donovan as she walks into the almost finished nightclub. “Oh hi Naomi, Cole’s not here” answers Cole’s business partner Sophia Faraday as she walks towards Naomi. “Is there anything I can help with?” “It’s family business” snaps Naomi. Sophia then asks Naomi how everything is, with Noah and the trial. Naomi however grunts a reply. “Naomi, have I done something to offend you?” asks Sophia. “No, well I don’t think so” replies Naomi. “You don’t sound too sure” responds Sophia defensively. Naomi explains to Sophia that she is being silly. “I’m sorry Sophia. I’ve just got a lot on my plate at the moment. It’s fine, can you just tell Cole I was looking for him” asks Naomi before she leaves.

Making his way into the kitchen, Michael greets his wife Heather. “What’s for dinner?” He asks. Heather explains that she’s had a very busy day at work so she’s thinking they could get a take away. “Again?” “Yes Michael again unless you can pull the finger out and make dinner” replied Heather annoyed. Michael explains to Heather that she wouldn’t be so stressed if she just dropped the Donovan case. “Oh I’m stressed now am I because the dinner isn’t on the table. Just back off Michael.” Michael however doesn’t back off. “And the way you snapped at Imogen today, what was that about?” asks Michael. Heather seething berates Michael for defending Imogen. “And what did you think you were doing making apologies for me where that woman is concerned.” Heather makes her way to the door. “Hold on a minute, what the hell is going on here? What has Imogen ever done to you?” pushes Michael as he follows Heather into the living room. “She abandoned her son, up and left without a second thought and she think she can just swan back in and take her place back. I mean, Siobhan raised Anthony as her own and now Imogen just thinks she can…” Heather trails off as Michael interrupts her. “You couldn’t give a damn about that Heather. You’ve never cared about Anthony Spencer and it wasn’t too long ago you were tearing strips off Siobhan” reasons Michael “There is something more to this, there has to be.” As Michael leaves the room, Heather remains with a worried look on her face.

The music begins as the guests stand at Harrington Hall. Molly looks at Kayla for guidance and reassurance. Kayla gestures Molly to stand. The doors at the back of the hall open. However, Molly is stunned by what she says. “Kayla?” asks Molly. “I know darling” replies a startled Kayla. Making her way down the aisle, Chrissie Campbell is a vision of beauty in her silk dress. As Chrissie passes Molly, she stops for a moment. Molly looks at her mother. “Darling, what’s the matter?” asks Jay Willis, Chrissie’s partner. “Jay, I’d like you to meet my daughter. Molly this is Jay, my soon to be wife.” Both Jay and Molly look at each other before Kayla puts her hand out and shakes Chrissie’s.

“Have I got a surprise for you” teases Michelle as David arrives home. “I’m really not in the mood for any of your games Michelle.” Michelle explains to David that she can see things from his point of view, she was insensitive about Eileen’s departure and she has been consumed with thoughts of Steven finding out about the baby. “But I’m going to make things right and I’ve already made a start” reveals Michelle. David now intrigued, asks Michelle what she’s talking about. “We’re going to Ireland, everything’s booked, we’re going to surprise Eileen and I promise you, I will make everything right between you and your Ma” smiles Michelle. David then smiles back and thanks Michelle before the couple share a kiss.

Arriving home, Ava is greeted by her mother Naomi. Putting her school bag on the table, Ava complains about the amount of homework she has. “Well if you need any help darling, I’m sure I could try” offers Naomi. “Thanks Mum.” Naomi then tells Ava that she’s making a chicken stew for dinner. “I wonder what poor Noah will be eating” says a lonely and worried Naomi. “Really? Oh, I’ll help you with your homework…poor Noah…what were you going to do…Oh Ava, x is actually equal to 7 and will you please forgive Noah… you are something else” storms Ava. Naomi tries to explain to Ava that that wasn’t the case. She wants to help her and she knows that she and Noah have issues, but she’s sure in time they can work them out. “You don’t get it do you? I hate him Mum. I hate him for what he did to me. I’ll never forgive him” yells an emotional Ava before she runs from the kitchen. Naomi calls after her daughter, but Ava locks herself into the bathroom. Looking at herself in the mirror, Ava begins to cry. Peeling back the sleeve of her jumper, Ava looks down at her scarred arms. Taking the tiny pair of scissors from the windowsill, Ava begins to pierce her arm. Feeling the pain and almost looking like it’s a relief, Ava’s tears stop flowing and she sighs before sliding down the wall onto the ground

2x21: 'Men can't resist damsels in distress, maybe they go for the drowned rat look' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty One David Fields and his partner Michelle Fox braced themselves for the winter cold as they arrived at Dublin International Airport. “Welcome to Ireland, where all the seasons blend into one” joked David as he wrapped his arm around Michelle. Michelle laughed before telling David that they should hurry inside out of the rain to get their luggage. Once inside, Michelle turned towards David “Do you think this is a good idea? Visiting your mother?” asked an apprehensive Michelle. David explained to Michelle that he was grateful to her for making an effort, but whether his Ma would appreciate it, he really didn’t know.

“Do you fancy it?” A sleazy customer asked the passing barmaid. “I haven’t fancied it since we changed over to the Euro… and I can’t see that changing anytime soon” smiled the feisty Eileen Fields “I suggest you button it or you’ll soon feel the back of my jingle bells.” As Eileen made her way back behind the bar with some empty glasses, she heard a crash. “For the love of St James’ Street, what was that?” asked Eileen as the customer pointed towards the ground. Eileen leant over the bar and began to laugh. “Hiya Aunty Ei… I fell” giggled Eileen’s niece Rachel Fields, who happened to be dressed as a Christmas Elf after a work’s Christmas lunch.

Olivia Kane and her best friend Chloe Charles stood outside Dublin International Airport in the pouring rain; Olivia hung up her phone in frustration as she struggled to get hold of the car hire company she had booked a car from. “When you told me you were taking me away for the weekend Liv, I will admit that I was expecting some sun, sea and sand” Chloe sighed “Flash floods in the Emerald Isles isn’t quite what I had in mind” Olivia stopped pacing and turned around “Well Marbella was on my list, but then David was telling me all about this gorgeous little B&B on the outskirts of Dublin, seriously Chlo it sounds perfect” Olivia promised. Chloe laughed “The same David who decided to settle down with Michelle ‘man eater’ Fox?” Olivia giggled “When you put it like that, I guess David’s judgement is a little off” Chloe rolled her eyes in humour “She says standing in a thunderstorm and her Gucci shoes soaking up dirty rain water” Olivia looked at her shoes in horror and shook her feet one by one “My Gucci’s” She moaned. As the girls tried to pull their suitcases to the nearest taxi rank, a navy blue sports car pulled up “Ms Kane?” The young man asked with a thick Irish accent. Olivia nodded and showed the man her booking confirmation; he took her signature and left the girls with the car. “This sexy little number is all ours for the weekend” Olivia laughed.

David and Michelle stood on O’Connell Street hand in hand “It feels so good to be back. To be able to show you my home, where I come from” David grinned excitedly. Michelle smiled at David before leaning in to kiss him. “Look, look… right down there, can you see it? That’s the Spire.” As Michelle took in the view of the enormous Spire, David told her that he had a surprise. Taking her hand, David led Michelle towards the Ha’penny Bridge. “This is called the Lover’s Bridge. You see all the locks attached to it. A couple like us, attach a lock and then throw the key in the Liffey…forever locking our love” David whispered as he kissed Michelle’s neck. Michelle turned towards David and suddenly blurted out “Marry me?” David stood back in shock, struggling to take in Michelle’s sudden proposal. “Well?” asked Michelle. David smiled “Yes” He shouted before announcing to the nearest passer-by that he was getting married.

“Oh Aunty Ei, I’m telling you. I told Mr Garrison that if his hands wandered one more time, he’d be drinking his Christmas dinner through a straw” announced Rachel as she took a huge swig from her glass of red wine. “You’re damn right my girl, no man should feel he can control a woman like that” Eileen’s lips thinned as she gave the sleazy customer at the end of the bar the evil eye. “Have you spoken to David yet?” Rachel gently inquired. Eileen ignored her niece and continued to clean the bar. Rachel admitted to Eileen that she heard the message from David on the answerphone. “He really wants to talk to you.” Rachel pressed. “Yes well, the time for talking is long gone. Now Rachel, I really must get on. We can’t al sit around in elf costumes playing the fool” Eileen announced forcefully before leaving the bar. Once out of sight, Eileen touched her heart sadly. She shook her head abruptly before getting back to work. Back in the bar Rachel topped up her wine glass and suddenly began to sing. Eileen instantly laughed as Rachel began to belt out ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’ on the karaoke machine.

Chloe rested her head back against the leather seat and enjoyed the countryside as Olivia drove seamlessly along the country lanes. “Are you nervous yet?” Chloe asked suddenly. “Nervous about what?” Olivia answered as she turned to look at Chloe “Becoming Mrs Fitzgerald of course” Olivia shrugged “I guess” Chloe frowned as she noticed the strained look on Olivia’s face “You’re marrying the man of your dreams, I’ve seen how excited you’ve been planning this wedding. Has something happened with Matthew?” Chloe questioned. Olivia shook her head “No nothing’s happened, I don’t know, I guess I’m just…” Olivia paused “I’ve done all this before Chlo, with Tom. I arrived to the church I was christened in, wearing a custom made Justin Alexander and he wasn’t there. He disappeared with every penny to my name and left me with nothing but an empty flat and a broken heart. I can’t get my hopes up yet, not until I get down that aisle and Matthew is there waiting for me” Olivia’s face had hardened as she remembered her wedding day five years previously. “I know you’re scared Liv, but Matthew loves you, anyone can see that” Chloe said supportively. “I know” Olivia smiled softly “I think all this stuff with Naomi has just unsettled me, in three weeks I’ll be Mrs Olivia Fitzgerald and that’s what I want more than anything in the world” As Olivia and Chloe’s conversation turned into a discussion about Olivia’s upcoming hen night, the car made a funny noise and skidded to a halt. “What the hell just happened?” Chloe questioned. Olivia cursed as she got out of the car, Chloe lowered the window as Olivia bent down and shook her head “We’ve got a puncture”
As the rain continued to beat down on the cobbled street, David stood back from his family home in Raheeny. Taking Michelle’s hand, David smiled at her reassuringly. “Coming…just like Christmas” giggled Rachel as she opened the front door. “David!” gasped Rachel as she hugged her cousin. David smiled as he introduced Michelle “Rachel, I’d like you to meet Michelle, my fiancée” David announced gleefully. “Your fiancée and she’s pregnant. Nice one cuz, fair play. I actually thought you were gay” Rachel drunkenly slurred as she gave Michelle a hug. As the trio made their way inside, Rachel told the couple that Eileen had popped out to the shop for a tin of Roses. David explained to Michelle that a tin of Roses was an Irish Christmas tradition. “That’s true, you can only eat them at Christmas, well I think they’re only sold at Christmas, but yep, we love em, especially Aunty Ei, she even eats the coffee ones and no one eats them” smiled Rachel “Actually, I think that says more about her than anything else.” With that, the front door opened as Eileen returned home. “Merry Christmas Ma” offered David. “Hello Eileen, it’s good to see you” smiled Michelle awkwardly. Eileen however remained silent. “Eileen is that any way to welcome your son and his fiancé” pushed Rachel. Eileen looked at David and faintly sighed.
*
Chloe shivered in the cold rain as Olivia searched the boot of the hire “A jack” Olivia smiled “They’re obviously not as dumb as they look” She walked around to the front of the car where Chloe was jumping up and down to keep warm. Chloe raised an eyebrow “Do you know how to change a tyre?” She asked. Olivia shrugged “I’ve seen David do it a few times, how hard can it be?” Chloe got her I-Phone out of her pocket. “Are you calling for help?” Olivia asked. Chloe shook her head “No, I’m taking a picture” She laughed. Olivia tried not to laugh and gestured Chloe to help her “So where do I put this?” She held the jack. “Liv, I don’t even own a car never mind know how to attach a jack. We’re so screwed” Olivia was distracted as she noticed headlights heading towards them; she began waving her arms causing Chloe to question what she was doing. The car slowed down and two men got out. “Men can’t resist damsels in distress, maybe they go for the drowned rat look” Olivia muttered. Chloe instinctively held back and moved behind Olivia, her stomach felt like it was in knots and she held onto the jack tightly, ready to use. Olivia linked her arm with Chloe’s “Nothing bad is going to happen Chloe, I promise” Olivia reassured her friend. “Ladies, you look like you could do with some help” The older man smiled as he walked towards the girls. “That depends on whether you can change a tyre” Olivia smiled back.

Eileen stood in the kitchen of her home; she watched her family reminiscing about past Christmases. She tried to take in the scene of her only son talking excitedly to his pregnant fiancé; she knew she should be happy. But Eileen however turned away. “Eileen” whispered Michelle causing Eileen to jump. “Don’t do that…don’t sneak up on me like that. I could have had a heart attack” snarls Eileen. Michelle explained to Eileen that she and David hadn’t come to Dublin to cause her any more heartbreak, but to make things right. “You left so abruptly after…after…well I never got the chance to tell you my side of the story” Michelle began. Eileen nods, not trusting herself to speak. “I had an affair with a married man. Steven Faraday and I’m not proud of it. It’s something I can’t change, but it’s something I can make better. I did love Steven and I wanted to be with him. But he didn’t want me and he quickly ran back to his wife. I was left with nothing” revealed Michelle. “I was lost, so lost and then there was David. When I found out I was pregnant, I thought I would lose him and that’s when I realised. He fixed me, he fixed me in ways I didn’t even know I was broke. He gave me hope where I had none. Eileen, your son saved me, he gave me my life back and I love him because of it. David is the father of my child, not Steven.” A tear began to roll down Eileen’s cheek. Michelle apologised and explained that she hadn’t meant to upset her. “You haven’t upset me Michelle. You made me remember. You’ve reminded me that I’ve been where you are” Eileen spoke softly. Michelle looked on as Eileen began to talk honestly. “Has David ever told you about his father? He was an animal. Life with him was hard, so hard. He was a drunk and a brute. But I loved him, until I couldn’t love him anymore. And it took a kind heart to show me that. It took my David. He gave me the strength to leave Ed. He gave me my life back” Eileen explained tearfully. “So I know when you say that he saved you that you mean it. Maybe I was a little harsh and impulsive in my judgement. I can’t judge you Michelle, not when I have no understanding of what you have been through, but I do love my son and I don’t want to lose him.” Michelle takes Eileen’s hands in hers “You’re his Ma, he’ll always love you.”
*
Finally Olivia and Chloe arrived outside the Aishling House B&B “It is beautiful” Chloe admitted as she took in the subtle fairy lights along the pathway to the front door. The girls dragged their suitcases and smiled with relief when the owner finally opened the door “You girls look like you’ve been through the wringer, come in and I’ll put a pot of tea on. I’m Pauline” Pauline smiled. “Oh tea would be heaven in a cup” Chloe inhaled the aroma of warmth as she walked through the door. An hour later, both Chloe and Olivia were sat in the heated conservatory, both clinging onto a cup of smoking hot tea. “I’m sorry about earlier Chlo” Olivia suddenly blurted out “Flagging those guys down, I didn’t think” Chloe nodded “I keep wondering when it’s going to stop. Every man I meet, I look at him with suspicion and wonder what he could be capable of” Chloe confided. “I keep wondering if I will ever get over this” Olivia smiled softly “You’re so much stronger now Chlo, after the attack you were so broken, but now when I look at you I see how determined you are to move on with your life and I am so proud of you, I can’t ever imagine having to go through what you have.” Olivia explained. Chloe smiled “I couldn’t have got through it without you and Lindsay; she’s been pretty amazing actually. I always thought she was kind of stuck up, but since the attack, she has been a friend, a boss and a mother all rolled into one. I’ll always be grateful to her” Chloe sipped her tea and exhaled deeply, finally feeling relaxed. “Harry’s been pretty great as well” Olivia hinted “He’s not bad to look at either” Chloe rolled her eyes “Olivia Kane, such a one track mind” Chloe laughed. She thought for a moment “He’s been a good friend to me” She admitted. “Could he be anything more?” Olivia asked bluntly. Chloe shook her head “No” She answered firmly “I can’t imagine getting involved with any man, not for a long time” Chloe confided. “That’s understandable” Olivia agreed “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have suggested…” Olivia began. “No Liv, it’s ok. I’m glad you can be normal with me, I’m not a china doll, I don’t need to be handled with care.” Chloe reassured “You were right about this place Liv, it is perfect and exactly what we needed” Chloe smiled. “Maybe David’s taste isn’t actually that bad” Olivia laughed.
*
“To family and new family” announced Rachel as she held a glass of wine in the air. Eileen threw her eyes to heaven as she smiled contently at David. Michelle surprisingly joined Rachel in standing and asked politely to say a few words. “It has been so good to come here, to come to your home Eileen. To meet you Rachel and to see where David grew up. I feel for the first time in a really long that, that I’m part of a family. So I want to make a toast, to the Fields family.” After making the toast, Michelle asked Rachel to pass the Roses tin as David and Eileen left the room. “Thank you Ma” David said as he hugged his mother. “David, you’re my son. I love you, I’ll always love you. I’m sorry my boy that I didn’t realise it sooner, but I understand it now. And I’m here for you and Michelle. And my grandchild” smiled Eileen. David kissed Eileen on the cheek as Rachel erupted in laughter from the living room. “What’s happened now?” asked Eileen as they re-joined Michelle and Rachel. “She likes the coffee ones too Eileen, she’s the new you” laughed Rachel as Eileen winked at Michelle

2x22: 'When have we ever had a night out that hasn't been tacky?' (45-Minute Special)' | Written by Hannah | Episode Forty Two There was an air of Christmas Eve excitement as the daylight began to fade on Canvey Island; Megan Donovan excitedly let herself into the disused warehouse which had now been converted into an impressive nightclub by her aunt Sophia Faraday and her father in law Cole Donovan. Megan greeted Sophia with a hug “Chemistry, I love the name, very sexy” Megan approved. “Thanks love, I just hope you like the uniform” Sophia teased. Megan groaned as Sophia opened the box with the uniforms for the bar staff. Megan held up the black t-shirt against herself and she smiled at the hot pink ‘Chemistry’ written across the t-shirt “It’s not actually that bad, I’ll take an extra small” Megan requested. Sophia rolled her eyes “I think that’ll be a bit tight Megs” Sophia muttered as Megan pulled off her own top and replaced it with the club t-shirt “That’s the point Aunty Soph” Megan laughed as she looked down at herself. Cole walked in carrying a box full of test tube shot glasses “Looking the part Megan, nervous about your first night?” Cole asked. Megan shook her head “I’ve been pulling pints since I turned twelve” Megan laughed “The perks of growing up in a pub.”

“Welcome and thank you all for coming out on this very cold Christmas Eve. It will be worth it all once we’ve switched the lights on” Duncan Faraday greeted the gathering crowd and explained that it had long been a tradition on Canvey Island that the island’s Christmas Tree was turned on every Christmas Eve “Get on with it Dunc” joked a shivering David Fields as he held onto his fiancée Michelle Fox’s hand. The crowd laughed while Josh Connor put his arm around his girlfriend Siobhan Spencer and kissed her on the cheek. Siobhan’s daughter Emily stuck her finger in her mouth and pretended to be sick, causing her friend Jake Connor to laugh and Siobhan to roll her eyes “Hey you two, you think you’re so funny” Josh laughed chasing after the pair. Siobhan smiled and waved to her mother Katherine Lavery, who was stood next to Duncan on the stage “Let’s do this” Katherine smiled as Duncan began the countdown. “Ten, nine…” Duncan shouted in the microphone as Katherine encouraged the crowd to join in. As they reached number one, Duncan and Katherine both hit the button and the Canvey Island Christmas Tree burst into light with flickering colours illuminating the night sky.

Ava Donovan sat alone in her bedroom staring at the unopened birthday card in front of her; she had recognised her brother’s untidy scrawl the moment it had arrived on the mat that morning. Ava quickly hid the card under her pillow as her mother Naomi burst through the door “I was thinking of getting a takeaway for dinner” Naomi suggested. “I’m going over for Aunty Liv’s hen night in a bit” Ava informed her mother. “Oh right” Naomi’s smile faded. “You can still come along Mum, I’m sure it would mean a lot to her” Ava pressed. Naomi shook her head “No it’s ok. I said I’d pop over to the club later anyway, show my support to your dad” Naomi closed the bedroom door as she left, Ava pulled the card out from under her pillow and opened it, she traced her finger over the huge number eighteen on the front and whispered to herself “At least somebody remembered.”
*
Kayla Macey and her foster daughter Molly Campbell settled down in front of the television after they had finished their dinner “Have you spoke to your mum since the wedding?” Kayla asked. Molly shook her head “I thought she’d be busy with her honeymoon and stuff” Molly admitted. “I know it was a bit of a shock, meeting Jay and you know…realising…” Kayla said as Molly interrupted her “That Jay was a woman, yeah it was a bit of a surprise, but experience has taught me never to be shocked by what my mother does” Molly explained. “She looked happy” Kayla pointed out. Molly smiled softly “She did, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her like that before” As Kayla and Molly continued to talk about the wedding, Kayla’s partner Patrick Hale burst through the door demanding to know where Molly’s twin brother Kyle was “He’s meeting his mates” Kayla answered. Patrick sighed in annoyance “He’s supposed to be grounded Kayla, he’s never going to learn if you keep giving in” Kayla stood up and walked into the kitchen, Patrick followed her. “Kyle has worked very hard in the garage this week, you said it yourself. I thought he deserved the leash to be untightened a little” Kayla explained herself. “We’re supposed to be showing a united front here Kayla, but every time I turn my back you let him off” Patrick stormed towards the door “Where are you going?” Kayla ordered, but Patrick was already gone.

Heather Connor chased around the kitchen searching for her purse, she was muttering to her husband Michael, who was cooking himself a stir fry. “The turkey’s in the sink defrosting, so it should be ready for tomorrow” Heather explained “Typical Josh, invite the Spencers for Christmas dinner but disappears when there’s work to do” Heather finally found her purse tucked behind the kettle “I’m surprised that you’ve had the time to prepare anything for Christmas with your work load” Michael snapped. Heather stopped and glared at her husband “Well, actually my schedule’s become a bit lighter…now that I’ve decided to drop Noah’s case” Heather tried to casually drop the comment into the conversation, but Michael wouldn’t let the subject drop. “You’ve never dropped a case in your life and you have never done anything I’ve asked before, why the sudden change of heart?” Heather sighed “I think that’s a slight exaggeration, there’s no hidden story here Michael. I just want to spend more time with my family” Heather explained as she put on her coat and kissed Michael on the cheek “I have a hen night to get to. Don’t wait up.”

At the Spencer house, Anthony Spencer stood on the doorstep with his boyfriend Tate Yorke “Are you sure you’re ready for this?” Tate questioned. Anthony took a deep breath and nodded “It’s time” He muttered. Tate followed Anthony into the house and into the dining room where Anthony’s step mother Siobhan was putting the dinner out on the table. Siobhan’s mother Katherine greeted Anthony lovingly while Anthony’s younger sister Emily sat at the table. Siobhan smiled at Tate expectantly. “This is Tate” Anthony introduced. “My boyfriend” Siobhan stood frozen to the spot for a moment, not quite sure how to react. She then held out her hand towards Tate “Hello Tate” She smiled “I guess we’d better set another place for dinner. Em, go and get another knife and fork” Siobhan prompted as the boys sat down at the table.

Chloe Charles and her best friend Olivia Kane both giggled as they dressed themselves up in the feather boas and hen night accessories Chloe had picked up for them. “This is so tacky Chlo, I can’t believe you’re making me wear these” Olivia cringed as she placed a plastic tiara and veil on her head. “At least you don’t have to wear these Team Olivia sashes” Olivia’s niece Ava cringed as she pointed towards the silver and pink sash across her body. Chloe laughed “Liv, when have we ever had a night out that hasn’t been tacky?” Olivia poured more champagne into glasses and handed another one to Ava “That’s a very good point, now I want to make a toast before the other girls get here” Olivia held up her glass “I want to say thank you to you both, I couldn’t have got through all this wedding planning without my two beautiful bridesmaids and Ava, happy eighteenth birthday my darling, it’s been a tough year but now is the time for a little happiness for us both” Olivia smiled happily. The girls continued to enjoy exploring Chloe’s hen night package as Lindsay Faraday and Michelle Fox arrived for the party. Lindsay laughed as she told Chloe to pour her a glass so she could start catching up. Michelle awkwardly made small talk with Ava, while Chloe unveiled a pile of brightly coloured flashcards. “Oh no” Olivia laughed. “Oh yes” Chloe nodded proudly. “Have you actually laminated these?” Olivia questioned. Chloe passed the cards around to each of the women “The ultimate hen night challenge created by the one and only me” Chloe laughed “Copyright to Chloe Charles of course” She winked at Olivia as she read one of the cards “No way, twenty different type of shots? I won’t make it to Christmas morning, never mind cook an actual Christmas dinner” Olivia complained. “Where’s the Olivia Kane we all know and love? Never could say no to a dare” Chloe said the magic words. “You’re daring me?” Olivia raised an eyebrow “Game on” She declared
Cole and Sophia were placing the finishes touches to the decorations inside Chemistry, Sophia checked her watch “Thirty eight minutes to go” She squealed excitedly. Cole smiled as Sophia leant forwards to straighten up Cole’s tie “Thanks Sophia” Cole said. “Well we wouldn’t want you to let the place down with your fashion faux pas” Sophia joked. Cole laughed “No, I meant thank you for giving this a chance, not letting my past cloud your judgement” Sophia hugged Cole “Everyone has done things they’re not proud of Cole, even me” Sophia admitted. “And here’s me thinking your halo was permanently attached” Cole teased Sophia. As they finished making the final touches, journalist Josh Connor arrived with his photographer to get some shots of the club before they opened "Ah Josh, how was the light switch on?" Sophia asked politely. “Yeah it was good, Duncan done us proud once again. Look don’t kill the messenger but you might want to take a look outside” Josh advised awkwardly. Sophia and Cole followed Josh outside and they both gasped to see the entire front wall covered in various photocopied newspaper articles surrounding Cole’s imprisonment. Cole escaped the stares of the crowd which had begun to form outside the club, Sophia ordered one of the bar staff to get the wall cleared as quickly as possible and then chased after Cole. She found him in the office and tried to reassure him “I’ve told you before Cole, I believe in second chances and whoever did that out there, they’re the coward. Hiding behind a few posters, it’s pathetic” Sophia spoke passionately “Stand up and hold your head up high. We’re in this together Cole, now let’s go and open our club.”

Molly wandered awkwardly into the kitchen as Kayla sipped a glass of red wine “Are you ok?” She inquired. Kayla smiled falsely “Of course I am darling, how about you and I make a start on this veg for tomorrow?” Kayla stood up and briskly made her way towards the fridge. Molly joined Kayla and they stood quietly peeling potatoes “Kayla” Molly broke the silence. “Yes darling” Kayla answered. “Would I be able to invite my mum for dinner tomorrow?” Kayla exhaled deeply, taken aback by Molly’s request. “Are you sure you’ve thought this through?” Kayla asked, thinking about how Kyle would react. “I’ve been thinking about it all day, you invited Harry and I just thought it might be nice to all be together, build some bridges” Molly explained. “Oh darling, I understand that completely, it’s just very last minute, I don’t even know if I’ll have enough food” Kayla rambled on causing Molly to interrupt “Don’t worry about it, I left it too late, it doesn’t matter” Kayla put her arm around Molly “Give your mum a call and see what she says. Worst case scenario, I’ll have to beg Katherine to let me into the shop to buy some more veg” Kayla laughed. Meanwhile, at the Crown and Horseshoe, the pub was unusually quiet. Landlord Daniel Hastings poured another pint of Fosters for an annoyed looking Patrick. Daniel left him to his brooding as Matthew Fitzgerald walked in and sat on the bar stool next to Patrick “You look like you lost a tenner and found a penny” Matthew observed. Patrick shrugged and warned Matthew to never have kids. As Matthew ordered himself a drink, Patrick began to open up to Matthew about his troubles with Kyle “Kayla wants to be the one to change him, heal the broken little boy inside. It’s such a cliché” Patrick complained “The boy’s never really had much of a father figure; he needs teaching right from wrong. I’m half tempted to hand this phone into the police” Patrick pulled out Kyle’s secret phone and threw it on the table “He wouldn’t think he was so untouchable once the police put a stop to his dealing” Matthew picked up the phone and looked at it “You think he’s dealing drugs?” Matthew questioned in shock.

Naomi poured herself a glass of wine and then pulled her antidepressants out of her handbag; she sighed as she threw two small pills to the back of her throat and took a large gulp of the wine. She looked at her mobile phone and text her husband Cole to let him know that she would make her way over to the club soon. She yawned furiously as she lay back on the sofa.
*
In the VIP booth, all the girls except Michelle downed another round of test tube vodka shots and continued dancing. Michelle clutched her stomach and sat down carefully “Are you alright?” Ava asked her worriedly. Michelle smiled “I’m fine don’t worry, I think the baby’s having a party of its own in here” She laughed pointing to her stomach. Cole brought over a bottle of champagne and handed a glass to Ava “For my little girl, all grown up” Cole beamed and kissed Ava on the forehead “I’m sorry I’ve been distracted today, but I will make it up to you in the morning. Birthday and Christmas presents all rolled into one” Cole promised as he poured the champagne into glasses “Thanks for this Cole. I feel like a model or something” Olivia giggled as she approached her brother in law “Please come over tomorrow Olivia” Cole blurted out suddenly “I hate this atmosphere between you and Naomi, she’s not coping well since Noah. She really needs you” Olivia sighed and stared at Cole for a moment before agreeing to Cole’s request. After Cole left, Imogen Sandford approached the party and offered to buy a round of drinks. Olivia and Chloe thanked Imogen as they sat down for a moment “Who is she again?” Olivia giggled to Chloe. As Ava went to the bar to talk to Megan, Lindsay and Michelle fell into an uneasy conversation about Michelle’s preparations for the baby’s arrival. Heather frowned as Imogen took a seat next to her “I can’t even blink without out you being there” Heather quipped sharply. “You’d better used to my pretty face, you’ll be looking at it all day tomorrow” Imogen snapped back “Anthony wants us to spend Christmas altogether. How cosy…you, me, Michael… we’re just one big happy family.”
*
The silence was piercing as a drunken Patrick stumbled alone across the beach; the cold winter breeze had caused him to feel more intoxicated than he had felt when he was sitting in the pub. Patrick began to sway from side to side, caused by a combination of alcohol and the strong winds. He paused for a moment to catch his breath, inhaling deeply, Patrick carried on making his way home.
*
Cole finally walked through the front door, his daughter Ava headed straight to bed to sleep off her drunken state. Cole found his wife Naomi fast asleep on the sofa, an empty bottle of wine on the coffee table. Cole shook his head “So much for my big night” He whispered to himself. Cole carefully placed a blanket over Naomi and headed upstairs. As he undressed, Cole noticed a cutting on the floor by the wardrobe. He bent down and picked it up, he then opened the wardrobe and a pile of clothes fell out. However, it wasn’t the clothes that had Cole’s attention. He pulled out a huge pile of newspaper articles and cuttings, the same ones that had been copied and plastered outside the club that night. Cole sat back in confusion as he began to question Naomi’s involvement

2x23: 'Crack open that wine, I think we're gonna need it' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty Three It was Christmas Day on Canvey Island, the high street looked completely deserted, white ice dusted the pavements as the cold wind blew against the houses causing a faint whistle in the air. The local church opened its doors as the residents descended briskly as the Christmas service finished. Naomi Donovan and her daughter Ava wished their neighbours Siobhan, Anthony and Emily Spencer a Merry Christmas, while Siobhan’s mother Katherine Lavery kissed her close friend Duncan Faraday affectionately on the cheek before he re-joined his daughter Lindsay and his son Steven. Outside the church, Harry Campbell approached Chloe Charles and found himself inviting her to join him at the Hale/Macey home for Christmas dinner. At the Connor home, Heather Connor and her husband Michael sat together on the sofa, cuddling, relations between the couple had improved for the first time in weeks. They watched their young son Jake open his nerf gun, while teenage daughter Vicki sat curled up on the armchair complaining of a headache. Oldest son Josh had finished opening his annual gifts of underwear and socks and promised his parents that he would get started on preparing the vegetables before their guests arrived. Across the sea at HM Prison Kingston, Noah Donovan opened his eyes to the sound of his cellmate singing Christmas carols; Noah merely groaned and pulled his pillow over his head to cover his ears.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Landlord Daniel Hastings stood alone in the empty bar; he stared at the seven places he had set up on the dinner table in the middle of the pub. He took a deep breath as he heard the loud knock at the door, he opened up to his ex-wife Lindsay carrying a large bag of presents “Merry Christmas” She smiled as their niece Mia Faraday followed behind her “Happy Crimbo Uncle Dan” Mia kissed Daniel on the cheek. Lindsay explained to Daniel that Megan was visiting the Donovans and would join the family later on. Soon, the entire Faraday family were crowded in the Hastings small kitchen arguing about who had what role in the Christmas dinner. Finally Daniel had had enough and demanded quiet “I would actually like to eat my Christmas dinner sometime before Boxing Day, so let’s stop the squabbling and get on with cooking this turkey” Duncan smiled “Hear hear Daniel, alright let’s get organised. Daniel, you and I shall sort the turkey. Mia, you can wash the sprouts and carrots…” Mia soon cut Duncan off “But sprouts always gives Dad the runs” Mia protested. “A bit too much information there Mia” Lindsay cringed as Steven playfully rubbed Mia’s hair. “Sophia, crack open that wine, I think we’re gonna need it” Duncan quipped.

Kayla Macey phoned her partner Patrick Hale for the tenth time with no success; she stood at the bedroom window looking out onto Collison Avenue. She was upset that Patrick hadn’t returned from the pub the previous night after their row about their foster son Kyle Campbell. Kayla was interrupted from her thoughts by a knock at the door. Kyle’s twin sister Molly walked in slowly “Mum and Jay are here” Molly informed Kayla. Kayla sniffed and nodded, but remained silent. “He’ll come back, Patrick wouldn’t miss our first Christmas together” Molly said supportively. Kayla walked towards Molly and put her arm around her “Well if he does, it’s his loss” Kayla replied, not quite confident in her own words. Kayla painted a smile on her face as she walked down the stairs to greet the twins’ mother Chrissie Campbell and her new wife Jay Willis. “Thank you so much Kayla for the invite, it means so much to both of us” Chrissie and Jay followed Kayla into the living room where Kyle came face to face with his mother for the first time since the twins were taken into foster care “I didn’t think you’d have the guts to turn up” Kyle spat. Chrissie sighed “Kyle…” But Kyle refused to listen and stormed out of the room, Molly quickly followed after him leaving Kayla, Chrissie and Jay to make small talk. Molly pulled on her coat and shivered as she found Kyle sat on the wall outside the house “I’m still angry too Kyle” Molly admitted. Kyle shrugged, but didn’t speak. “Mum was weak and she chose the bottle over us. There’s no excuse for that, but she’s here now and she wants to be part of our lives. I need my mum Kyle” Molly sniffed, trying not to get upset “I love Kayla, but she’s not mum. Please come back inside; please let us be a family for one day. Do this for me Kyle” Molly pleaded. Kyle looked at his sister emotionally “I wouldn’t do this for anyone else Mol” Kyle assured his sister and sighed as he followed her inside.

At the Connor house, complete with his Christmas hat Michael was playing host to the Spencer family as well as Anthony’s biological mother Imogen Sandford, he gave out gifts to Katherine, Siobhan, Anthony and Emily while Vicki sat grumpily in the corner, struggling with her ecstasy influenced hangover from the previous night. “I don’t think this one is for me” Katherine spoke up holding up a stunning red corset “Oh Josh, your face is as red as the lingerie” Katherine teased as she passed the corset over to Siobhan “It is beautiful Josh, maybe next time we should exchange presents alone” Siobhan winked at her embarrassed boyfriend. Emily looked over at older brother Anthony “Are you texting your boyfriend again?” Emily teased fondly. Anthony smiled coyly “Maybe” He answered. As everyone chatted happily, enjoying their gifts, Michael excused himself to the kitchen where he was followed by Imogen. “Thank you Michael, I’m sure Heather tried to convince you to ban me from the house or something” Imogen said. “Heather does seem to lack Christmas spirit when it comes to you” Michael admitted. “Shove some brandy into her coffee that might lighten her up” Imogen laughed as she pulled out the box of Christmas crackers that she had brought over “Shall I set the table?” Imogen offered leading into the dining room, Heather walked in and glared at Imogen “I think you’ll find your place out in the back with last night’s leftovers” Heather sniped. Imogen just smiled “Actually, I’m quite happy here right next to Michael” Imogen carefully placed Michael’s Christmas cracker at the head of the table. “Have a brandy Heather, might calm your nerves” Imogen warned before returning to the living room to join Anthony and the rest of the family.

At the Donovans, Cole Donovan was stood in the kitchen doorway as he watched his wife Naomi checking on the turkey. Their daughter Ava was stood at the counter placing the final decorations on the Christmas cake. “Is there anything I can do?” Naomi’s sister Olivia Kane asked awkwardly. Relations hadn’t improved between the sisters despite Cole’s attempts to bridge the gap. “I’m surprised you’re still alive after the amount you drank last night” Cole teased Olivia, who was still recovering from her hangover after her hen night the previous evening. “The liver of an ox, you know me Cole” Olivia laughed. “Did you enjoy your big night?” She asked. Cole shrugged “There were a few hitches” He admitted. “Someone decided to cover the outside wall with old newspaper articles about my trial” Cole watched Naomi carefully as he spoke, but she had no reaction. “That’s awful; still you made the most of the night. I was pretty impressed, the perfect hen night venue” Olivia complimented. “A bit too perfect” Olivia’s fiancé Matthew Fitzgerald gently gibed as he walked into the kitchen “Feathers and tiaras all over the place when this one crawled in at five this morning” Everyone in the kitchen was startled by Naomi pulling out the roast potatoes from the oven and loudly slamming the tray onto the counter with a bang. “Why don’t we sit down and eat” Naomi said coldly, barely looking at Olivia and Matthew.
*
Noah Donovan looked surprised as he walked into the prison visiting room to find his wife Megan sat at one of the tables “I didn’t expect to see you today or any other day to be honest” Noah commented as he sat down opposite Megan. “I couldn’t let you spend Christmas alone” Megan admitted. She noticed Noah’s faded bruises and leant forward to touch them; Noah leant into her touch and closed his eyes. “Keep your hands to yourself” A prison officer ordered. “I got you a present, but they took it away” Megan explained. “Why are you here Megan? You were certain we were finished last time I saw you” Noah pointed out. “I don’t know” Megan paused “I hate what you did Noah, but no matter how hard I try, I can’t hate you” Noah smiled weakly “Are you saying you want to give us a chance?” Noah asked hopefully. “I’m saying, maybe I could come back and visit you again” Megan answered softly
At the Fields’ home, David Fields was busy outside in the front garden, while his new fiancée Michelle Fox was inside finalising their Christmas dinner “He sings a love song, as he goes along…” Michelle sung before humming the remaining part of the song. Michelle was suddenly startled by the sound of the phone ringing; she rushed over to it as quickly as an eight month pregnant woman could and answered the call “Merry Christmas” Michelle smiled “Hello…hello, who is this?” She asked before the line went dead. Meanwhile, outside in the front garden, David gently twisted one bulb on his row of Christmas lights when he was joined by a passing Chloe. “Merry Christmas” Chloe offered as David returned the gesture. “Impressive lights David, reminds me of the Blackpool Tower” Chloe joked. “You may mock, but back in Ireland, my Ma always had the best set of Christmas decs for miles” David proudly stated. “I don’t doubt it. Have a good one” laughed Chloe as she continued to make her way to the Hale/Macey household with Christmas gifts in hand. Finally, David was delighted as the bulb finally flickered on “Gotcha” He cheered before calling for Michelle. As Michelle and David gleefully took in the sight of their home lit up in lights for their first Christmas together, a black cab pulled up and David’s mother Eileen Fields stepped out. “Two buses, one plane, a train, a tube, a boat and a taxi, but I’m finally here. Merry Christmas on” Eileen smiled with a tear in her eye. As David and Eileen hugged, Michelle was equally thrilled to have her mother-in-law-to-be home in time for Christmas. “Michelle” smiled Eileen as she opened her arms to embrace Michelle in a motherly hug. “So Ma, what do you think?” asked David as he pointed to his lights. Eileen gasped at the beauty, when suddenly the fuse box blew and the whole house descended into darkness “Bit dull” Eileen joked as she and Michelle burst into laughter. David however was devastated.
*
After knocking at the door of the Hale/Macey home, Chloe nervously fixed her dress as Molly opened the door “Merry Christmas” Molly offered as she took Chloe’s coat. Once in the living room, Chloe greeted Kayla and the Campbell family before offering Kayla her gifts, which included a bottle of Brandy “You’ll be kept” smiled Kayla. “I’m really glad you came” Harry whispered, which made Chloe smile in a way that she hadn’t smiled in a while. At the other side of the room, Jay talked reassuringly to Chrissie “Are you okay?” asked a concerned Jay. “Today was always going to be hard, but it will get better, I’m sure it will. I want it to. I want to make it up to my kids” Chrissie explained. Jay gently took her wife by the hand and smiled. In the kitchen, Kayla was on the phone again “Patrick, please, please call me back. All our guests are here. Please come home” Kayla pleaded as Kyle joined her. “You calling Paddy again?” asked Kyle. Kayla nodded. “I know we ain’t always got along, but Patrick’s a good man. He’ll come home…with some decent presents” Kyle joked as Kayla asked him if he was criticising the Christmas jumper she had got him, the pair laughed before joining the others in the living room.
*
“Can I get you a drink Naomi?” asked Matthew politely. “No thank you, I’ll get my own” Naomi spat. Matthew shrugged as Cole intervened and told him that Naomi would like a soft drink. Naomi glared at Cole furiously. “Before you start Naomi, it’s Christmas and we’re trying to repair the damage you’ve already caused, not add to it, okay?” Cole sternly announced before asking Ava to get some Christmas music going. Matthew gave Naomi her drink and began to make a toast “To new beginnings” smiled Matthew. Naomi nodded and took a sip of her drink. “Okay, I’m starving when’s dinner?” asked a moaning Olivia. Matthew laughed and commented that the hangover must be getting worse if the munchies were kicking in. Olivia laughed mockingly in response. Cole called everyone into the dining room where Ava had neatly set the table. “Oh Ava, it’s so beautiful. Well done darling” Olivia gushed as she gave her niece a big hug. “What’s that?” asked Olivia after she found a napkin with blood on it. “Oh, I meant to clean that up. I cut my finger earlier by accident on one of the knives” Ava panicked before leaving the room. Cole, Matthew and Olivia took their places and began to talk about the Hastings’ Christmas party later on that evening. “Everything looks so normal, so great and lovely. You all having a good time?” Naomi barked holding her glass. “Happy Christmas you bunch of hypocrites.” Olivia looked over to Cole, who stood up and demanded that Naomi was quiet. “Nothing has changed. Do you understand me? Nothing, I’m onto you Matthew. I know it’s you” Naomi shouted, pointing at Matthew accusingly. Olivia shook her head and stood up “I’m not having this, I’m sorry Cole, but we’re not staying. It’s Christmas Day Naomi. Christmas Day, just for once could you not just shut up and smile through it” Olivia said sternly as she told Matthew that they were leaving. “You happy now?” Cole leant in close to Naomi and could smell alcohol on Naomi’s breath. “You know you’re not supposed to drink with your medication” an annoyed Cole informed Naomi. Naomi however told Cole that she hadn’t been drinking. “I don’t believe you” a disappointed Cole offered before leaving Naomi stood alone in the dining room.

“This looks fantastic” said Siobhan as she took her seat at the Connor’s dining table, her partner Josh sat down next to her. Heather thanked Siobhan for the compliment. Looking around the posh dining room, Katherine took in the beautiful garland which was hung over the fire place with Joshua, Victoria and Jake Santa stockings neatly placed along and the spectacular Christmas tree in the corner of the room decorated in gold and red ornaments with flickering lights flashing on and off. “Do you have a tree for every room?” joked Anthony as Emily elbowed him in the ribs. “Oh my word, Heather, what a beautiful room. Everything matches, I wouldn’t have the patience” Katherine gushed before Imogen interjected “It all looks a bit OCD to me.” Heather breathed in sharply, but chose to ignore Imogen, instead encouraging everyone else to take their seats. “Can I just make a toast? To my wonderful wife on another successful Christmas gathering” said Michael as everyone raised their glasses. “To Heather.” They chanted. “Why don’t we all pull our crackers? I love those little jokes in them and the funny hats” asked Imogen. As everyone around the table crossed their hands, they all pulled their crackers together. Katherine helped Jake and Emily put their toys together while Siobhan laughed as Josh put on his purple Christmas hat. Meanwhile, Michael seethed as he first stared at Heather and then looked back down at his empty plate. Staring back at him was a photograph of his wife kissing another man, a man he recognised instantly. “Do you wanna explain this?” Michael demanded, his hands shaking in anger as Heather reeled in shock.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, the assembled Hastings and Faraday family prepared the open the pub for the festive party they had planned. “Thanks for today” Lindsay said genuinely as she kissed Daniel on the cheek “We’re still a family Linds, nothing will ever change that” He smiled before looking over at daughter Megan; he asked how the Donovans were when she visited them earlier. “Do you care?” Megan said sharply. Daniel explained that while he didn’t much like Noah for what he did, but he knew how it felt to miss your child. “I’m sorry Dad. Yeah, they’re okay, well as okay as they can be.” Megan felt a pang of guilt for her lie. Meanwhile, Duncan opened the doors of the pub and was delighted to see Eileen walk through first. “Merry Christmas handsome” smiled Eileen as she held a piece of mistletoe over Duncan’s head. Duncan looked around. “Go for it Grandad” Mia cheered. As Duncan pulled Eileen into his arms and kissed her, the gathering crowd cheered. Daniel turned on the music and ‘I wish it could be Christmas everyday’ began to blare around the room as the pub filled with locals.
*
Michael angrily held his stare on Heather as she struggled to take in what had happened. Katherine jumped into action “Okay everyone, I think we should go and check if Santa left anything else under the tree” Katherine suggested strongly as she told Emily and Jake to get up. Siobhan and Anthony began to follow, while Josh, Vicki and Imogen remained seated at the table. Anthony, however was stopped in his tracks as he noticed the photograph “That’s my Dad” stated a confused Anthony. Siobhan gasped as she took hold of the photograph and looked at Heather “You and Robert?” Siobhan remarked. “It’s the reason I left” Imogen announced standing up. “You bitch” slammed Heather as she stood up to face Imogen. “I’m the bitch am I? You stole my husband Heather. You broke up my marriage, I was driven from my home and my child because he couldn’t get over you” Imogen furiously spat. “Is it true? You and Anthony’s dad?” asked a sickened Vicki as Josh put his arm around her. Heather turned to face Michael while Anthony stared at Imogen. “Michael, please let me explain. I need to explain” a crying Heather begged. Anthony made his way over to his mother “Why did you do it?” Anthony asked his tone full of disappointment. “Because Michael needed to know, he deserved to know” Imogen revealed. “But did you have to be so cruel?” Anthony shook his head in disgust before leaving the room followed by Siobhan. “I think we should go” Josh looked at both Siobhan and Vicki. “Michael, please talk to me. Me and you” Heather pleaded emotionally. “I can’t…I can’t even look at you” Michael tears. “How could you do this to us?” Imogen smirked as Heather desperately tried to get Michael to talk to her. “That not all, is it Heather?” Heather turned towards Imogen and begged her not to say anything more. “Please Imogen, let me tell him” Heather pleaded. “The reason I left Canvey Island all those years ago, I found out that not only was my husband cheating on me, but he’d also got his mistress pregnant” Imogen spat as Michael, Josh and Vicki stared at a crying Heather, who couldn’t defend Imogen’s statement because it was true

2x24: 'You two have murdered enough Christmas classics as it is, sweetheart' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty Four The festive party hosted by the Hastings and Faradays was in full swing at the Crown and Horseshoe as Steven and Sophia Faraday painfully blasted out ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ on the karaoke. Daughter Mia Faraday desperately clung onto cousin Megan Donovan in embarrassment as Steven went out of tune causing Sophia to stop singing and burst out laughing. Over at the bar, Duncan Faraday tipsily gushed to Eileen Fields about how thrilled he was that she has returned to Canvey Island. “It’s Christmas and Christmas is about family regardless of the situations they may find themselves in” Eileen stated before grabbing Duncan and dragging him up onto the stage. “Oi” yelped Sophia as Eileen lightly pushed her aside “You two have murdered enough Christmas classics as it is sweetheart” Eileen laughed before she announced that she and Duncan were going to sing ‘Fairytale of New York.’ As Duncan and Eileen began to sing, Eileen’s son David shared a kiss with his fiancée Michelle Fox. Witnessing the kiss, Steven suddenly grabbed his wife Sophia “I love you” He whispered to which Sophia smiled and leaned in close to her husband. As they made their way into the pub, Olivia Kane seethed about her sister Naomi Donovan’s behaviour to her fiancé Matthew Fitzgerald. “I take it you didn’t get what you wanted this year” joked David as he picked up on Olivia’s anger. “Oh, I got a lot more than I bargained for actually. Large red wine please Dan” Olivia ordered sternly. Matthew smiled as David and Michelle moved slowly away from an aggravated Olivia.

At the Connor home, the atmosphere was far from festive. As a tearful Vicki Connor cradled into her brother Josh, Imogen Sandford was stood staring at an emotional and ruined Heather Connor. “You happy now?” Heather snapped. “I ruined your life, so you ruin mine. We quits now?” However, Imogen doesn’t respond. “I’m talking to you” Heather slammed. “This was never about revenge Heather. This was about the truth. You and Siobhan were quite happy to paint me as the bitch who walked out on her son, but you, little miss perfect with your perfect family looked down on me from your castle. This was never about revenge, this was about redemption” Imogen explained before leaving the room. Michael turned towards his children and hung his head sadly “Dad” Josh whispered. Heather asked Michael to talk to her alone “We really need to talk” begged Heather. “You were pregnant by him. What did you do? Did you get rid of it…did you lose it?” Michael asked sternly. “Michael, please not here. I’ll tell you everything, but we need to talk alone” Heather tried to take her husband’s hand, but Michael pulled away sharply “Tell me now” Michael ordered. Heather cried as she turned around and looked at their daughter Vicki. “No, Heather please” Michael softened his voice with emotion as it dawned on him that Vicki wasn’t his daughter.

Meanwhile, at the Donovan household, Cole Donovan was stood scraping food from the full dinner plates into the bin when he was joined by wife Naomi “Where’s Ava?” asked Naomi. “She’s gone to see Megan” Cole replied coldly. Naomi frowned and said that Ava should be with them on Christmas Day. “I mean, Noah’s not here with us, the least Ava could do is spend the day with us” Naomi repeated. Cole shook his head, shocked by Naomi’s comments. “Ava would have been with us for Christmas Day Naomi” Cole began “If you hadn’t seen to it that Christmas this year in our home was cancelled.” Naomi explained to Cole that she didn’t want Matthew in her house and while Olivia was in cahoots with him, she was not welcome either. “Oh for God’s sake Naomi, listen to yourself. Can you hear the crap you’re saying?” slammed Cole before questioning Naomi’s grip on reality. “Grip on reality, what are you trying to say?” demanded Naomi. “Naomi, you’ve been under a lot of pressure. All your life. You had to grow far too young because of everything that happened with your father. You had to protect Olivia and she doesn’t even realise that. Maybe you need to take a little break from everything, maybe have a rest” Cole offered gently. Naomi reeled from what Cole was saying “You think I need help don’t you? You think I’m mad, at least have the guts to call it what it is” Naomi said tearfully. Cole began to explain that she needs to understand that what he is saying isn’t as unrealistic as it sounds. “I mean all this stalker nonsense, keeping your relationship with Matthew a secret and not coming to the opening to the club” Cole said “I know Naomi, I found the stuff in our wardrobe.” Naomi told Cole that she didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, Cole confessed that he had found the paint and newspaper clippings that she had used. “You think I’m stalking myself? You’ve a nerve to accuse me of being crazy when you’re coming out with this crap” Naomi slammed as tears began to roll from her eyes. Cole tried to reach out to Naomi, but she pulled away. As Naomi ran upstairs, Cole called after her. Naomi stood in the bathroom and emotionally broke down, she threw everything off the shelves and grabbed hold of the shower curtain, ripping it off as she fell to the ground crying.

“Santa bring you anything nice?” Jay Willis kindly asked her new step son Kyle Campbell “Well I didn’t ask for two lesbians so I guess he didn’t get my letter” Kyle sarcastically retorted. Jay laughed “I like that, you’ve got a sense of humour kid, but instead of insulting people why don’t you put it to good use” offered Jay. Kyle however was unsure by what she meant. Jay continued on to explain that she and his mother Chrissie Campbell was unsure what to get him or his twin sister Molly for Christmas as she hoped that he was okay with the money. “Money? That must be a first for Chrissie, money and cards” quipped Kyle causing Jay to laugh. “You crack me up” Jay laughed as Kyle began to relax in her company. Jay grabbed the card and gave it to Kyle. A delighted Kyle opened the card to find £200 inside, Jay winked at him. “Bet you’re glad you got two lesbians now” Jay smiled as Kyle tried to disguise his widening smile.

The party at the Crown and Horseshoe was in full force as Landlord Daniel Hastings called for order “On behalf of myself and my Landlady” Daniel paused, remembering how he normally referred to Lindsay as his wife “The next round is on the house, Merry Christmas.” As the crowd cheered, Eileen stormed her way towards the bar “A double brandy please darling” smiled Eileen as Lindsay threw her eyes to heaven. “You’ll never change will ya Ma” laughed David. “Why should I change when God made me perfect?” Eileen quipped back. Across the pub, Michelle is sat with Olivia who was explaining all about the cancelled Christmas at the Donovan’s. “That sounds awful, and your wedding next week” offered a sympathetic Michelle. Olivia sighed as Matthew re-joined them. “Well, if you want a laugh when David comes back, ask him why he has no Christmas lights up” smiled Michelle cheekily. Back at the bar, Megan and Mia were talking to Ava about their Christmas presents, but Ava was too distracted to listen. Behind the bar, Daniel and Lindsay were rushed off their feet “Just like the good old days eh” offered Lindsay. “Different, but good different” Daniel replied, finally feeling ready to move on from his painful break up from Lindsay. Over at a table, Olivia, Matthew and Michelle smiled as David returned with their drinks “So Dave, how come you don’t have any Christmas lights up?” asked Matthew trying not to laugh. “You gotta be kidding me mate, did you not see my house before the fuse box…” David trailed off as Olivia, Matthew and Michelle dissolved into laughter. David sighed before joining in on the joke.

The devastation continued at the Connor house, in the living room Katherine Lavery explained to daughter Siobhan Spencer that she was going to take Siobhan’s daughter Emily and the Connor’s son Jake over to their house. “I think that’s a good idea, thanks Mum” Siobhan said, still reeling from the shock of Heather’s history with her deceased husband Robert. Siobhan tried to get Emily and Jake ready, but the children continued to ask questions. Katherine finally explained that Heather had accidentally burnt the turkey so they needed to go to the Spencers to make everyone something to eat. “We’re not children” Emily rolled her eyes “We know something is going on” Siobhan looked cautiously at Katherine. “How about fish fingers?” asked Katherine ignoring Emily. “With brown sauce?” Jake asked. Katherine looked at Jake dubiously “If you like.” After Katherine and the children had left, Siobhan found her step son Anthony in the hallway with his biological mother Imogen. “You really are something else Imogen” slammed Anthony as he berated Imogen for the sneaky way she told Michael about Heather’s affair. “Let’s just stay calm Anthony” Siobhan pressed. “This is actually family business Siobhan” stated Imogen. “Wrap it up how you like darling, dress it up in a cracker and destroy someone else’s family, you still walked out on your son so I wouldn’t grin too hard Imogen” Siobhan stormed. Suddenly, Michael burst out of the dining room with an emotional Heather chasing after him. “Mum, please tell me it’s not true” Vicki pleaded hysterically. “Michael, I love you, please” Heather called after Michael. He stopped and turned towards his family. “Maybe we should go” offered Siobhan. “Oh no Siobhan, you haven’t heard the best bit yet” Michael spat as Heather tried to stop him. Siobhan told Anthony to get his coat and demanded that Imogen leave with them. “No wait, honestly, especially you Anthony” Michael demanded. Anthony looked cautiously at Siobhan. “Aren’t you going to introduce Anthony to his sister?” Michael coldly asked Heather. Anthony turned towards Vicki in horror before a distressed Vicki ran from the house, Josh calling after her with concern
Heather stood humiliated as Siobhan and Anthony struggled to comprehend the truth about Vicki’s parentage. “Get out!” Heather said quietly. When nobody moved, Heather screamed for everybody to leave. “Thanks for dinner Heather, a Christmas I won’t forget” Imogen quipped causing Heather to lose her temper. Heather slapped Imogen hard around the face; Anthony pulled his mother away and pushed her out the front door, swiftly followed by Siobhan. Now alone, Michael marched into the kitchen and poured himself a glass of whisky, Heather followed him and closed the kitchen door slowly. “I’m so sorry Michael” Heather began. Without a word, Michael threw the glass across the room “I don’t think sorry quite cuts it this time Heather” Michael spat. “You need to leave” He hissed. “No Michael, not until we talk about this” Heather pleaded. “You think I want to talk about this?” Michael glared at his wife. “You know what Heather, if you won’t go, I will” Michael pushed past Heather as she tried to grab his arm and walked out, leaving Heather broken and alone. Meanwhile, outside the Hale/Macey home, Vicki was finally joined by boyfriend Kyle “I need some more pills” She pleaded, her eyes smudged with make-up from where she had been crying. “I don’t have any left Vic” Kyle admitted. “Don’t say that Kyle, I need something please” Kyle pulled out a wrap from his pocket “Coke’s all I got, I don’t think it’s quite your thing” Vicki snatched it out of Kyle’s hand “Everything’s my thing” She snapped as she walked away.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan and a slightly drunken Ava were enjoying the festivities by making their own dance floor in front of the karaoke stage. Olivia and Matthew were now sat alone in the corner kissing lovingly “Can I give you your present now?” Matthew asked excitedly. “I thought you already did” Olivia smiled, pointing to her necklace. “Have to spoil my girl at Christmas” Matthew teased as he pulled out an A4 sized package. Olivia opened it excitedly “You brought me a star” She squealed, taken aback by the romantic gesture. “I’ll have to take you star gazing, see if we can find the Olivia star.” Matthew leant in and kissed Olivia on the lips. Over at the bar, Michelle squealed as she felt the baby kick, she grabbed hold of David’s hand and moved it to where the baby was moving. Across the room, Steven looked on, unsure whether he was feeling jealous of David and Michelle, or their excitement for the baby.
*
Harry Campbell stood on the Hale/Macey doorstep smoking a cigarette and holding his bottle of beer; he turned around and smiled as Chloe Charles joined him. “Sorry, I needed a break from the big family Christmas” Harry admitted. “I guess it must feel strange, seeing your mum again” Chloe spoke softly. “Last Christmas, mum was so drunk that she forgot to turn on the oven and she ended up passed out by the time the Queen made her speech” Harry explained, cringing at the memories “In the end, Luke put mum to bed and Beth ordered us a takeaway, not quite the traditional Christmas you’d hope for” Chloe took a sip of Harry’s beer “Who’s Beth?” She asked. Harry closed his eyes tightly and then opened them again “Beth was my fiancée” Harry stuttered, he paused for a moment “Last New Year’s Eve, Beth went out with her sister and some friends in London, I didn’t want her to go, thought we should spend the big night together, but I gave in, I usually did” Harry laughed at the last statement “No one really knows what happened, but the girls got separated outside the nightclub and…” Harry stopped, the emotion tight in his throat “She was found in the early hours of New Year’s Day, she’d been attacked. He’d had a knife, Beth didn’t stand a chance” Chloe felt tears in her own eyes “Harry, I’m so sorry” Harry and Chloe both stood next to each other quietly staring out into the street.
*
Siobhan walked into the Crown and Horseshoe and wished Sophia and Steven a Merry Christmas, she found Josh stood at the bar with a pint “You couldn’t find Vicki then?” She questioned. He shook his head “Disappeared without a trace” Siobhan frowned as she noticed Imogen sitting in the corner of the pub “Don’t you think you’ve had enough wine?” Siobhan spat. “Not even close” Imogen downed the rest of her glass and stumbled over to the bar. She smiled happily at Daniel and picked up a piece of mistletoe she found on the bar “Look what I found” She teased. Daniel smiled “Well if you insist” Daniel leaned forwards to peck Imogen on the lips, but she ended up kissing him more passionately. Around the corner of the bar, Lindsay watched Daniel’s clinch with Imogen awkwardly, she sighed and walked away.

A montage begins as Cole is sat alone in the Donovan living room, wife Naomi was sat curled up on the bathroom floor in tears. The Crown and Horseshoe was full of happiness as Duncan and Eileen kissed affectionately, while Megan and Ava were drunkenly dancing with Mia. David and Michelle encouraged Olivia and Matthew to feel the kicks of the baby as Siobhan comforted Josh over his broken family. Vicki was sat in the cold Connor garage preparing a line of cocaine, while Michael sat in his car where he finally broke down.

The Hale/Macey house was full of laughter as the Chrissie and Kyle battled over who was ahead in the game of Monopoly, Harry looked over at Chloe who was sat at the other side of the table and smiled warmly, she smiled back and then turned towards Molly whose turn it was next. Chrissie looked up to see Kayla stood by the front window looking out for signs of Patrick; she walked over to her and asked if she was ok. “I remember my first husband; he used to disappear for weeks at time. Felt like a holiday for me” Chrissie laughed trying to take Kayla’s mind off her worry. Chrissie convinced Kayla to join in the Monopoly game. Kayla sat down next to Molly, who shared her property cards. Soon enough, the Campbells’ laughter began to rub off on Kayla as she enjoyed taking a large amount of rent from Jay. Molly and Kayla both looked up sharply at the sound of the doorbell, Molly answered the front door to find two policemen stood on the doorstep; she turned around to find Kayla behind her. Kayla’s face began to screw up with emotion as she whispered Patrick’s name. One of the policemen guided Kayla into the living room and tried to convince her to sit down “Don’t tell me to sit down in my own house. Something has happened to Patrick and I need to know now” She demanded. “Ms Macey, I’m very sorry to have to tell you” The policeman began “We found a body of a man this morning and he has been IDed as Patrick Hale” Kayla fell backwards clutching her chest as she tried to comprehend the news, Kyle leapt forwards to catch Kayla and he held onto her tightly. “I don’t understand” Molly spoke up. “It looks like Mr Hale fell and hit his head” The policeman explained, but his voice was drowned out by Kayla’s sobs.

2x25: 'What did I do to deserve Miss Hellfire as a sister?' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty Five The cold dawn Boxing Day sunlight began to break on Canvey Island as a grieving Kayla Macey lay in her bed alone. The bed she had shared with her partner Patrick Hale until his untimely death. As Kayla cradled Patrick’s work overall, outside her bedroom door, Chrissie Campbell was standing there holding a steaming hot cup of tea. Knocking on the door, Chrissie softly asked Kayla if she was awake. However, Kayla didn’t answer. “What are you doing here?” snapped Kyle Campbell, Chrissie’s son and Kayla’s foster son. “I’m here to help darling” Chrissie offered. “First time for everything” Kyle replied before making his way over to Kayla’s bedroom door. Kyle gently knocked and called out to Kayla “Kayla, it’s me. It’s Kyle. I’ve got rid of the lezzer, can I come in?” a concerned Kyle softly asked. Again, Kayla didn’t answer. Hearing Kyle’s voice, his twin sister Molly opened her bedroom door and walked briskly into her brother’s arms. “It’s okay, it will be okay” Kyle whispered calmly as he cradled his sister. Inside her bedroom, Kayla could hear the twins talking. As the tears fell down her face, Kayla stood up and opened the curtains. She shielded her eyes from the sunlight and then puts on her dressing gown, accidentally knocking over a photo frame in the process. Kayla bent down and picked it up, she stared at the photograph of her and Patrick smiling “Oh Patrick” Kayla cried.

Vicki Connor woke up shivering in the Connor garage; her sinuses felt a pang of pain while her muscles ached slightly. She stood up and walked towards the house, she jogged briskly over to the kitchen sick and vomited violently. The noise attracted the attention of her mother Heather “Vicki, where the hell have you been all night?” Heather demanded. “You noticed I was gone then?” Vicki snapped. “I’m sorry Vicki” Heather sighed “I’m so sorry for everything, you should have never found out like that” Vicki shook her head “I don’t understand how you could do it mum” Vicki leant forwards against the counter trying to steady her breathing “I was scared” Heather admitted “You’re old enough to understand Vicki, I was weak and I gave into an attraction. I knew my affair with Robert was wrong, but I couldn’t stop. He made me feel like a woman, not a dowdy wife and mother just out of law school. I ended the affair when I found out I was pregnant, I told Robert that you were Michael’s and pretended that the affair never happened” Heather explained. “Why did Imogen just leave, why didn’t she tell Dad…I mean Michael the truth then?” Vicki asked. “Imogen never wanted to be a mum, that’s why Robert fell for me. She took the first excuse she could to walk out on Robert and Anthony, and then when Robert met Siobhan, we just agreed to put it all behind us” Vicki paced around the kitchen “You should have told the truth mum” Vicki sighed and began to walk to towards the door “Vicki please forgive me” Heather pleaded rushing towards her daughter “Forgiveness needs to be deserved” Vicki said coldly. “No, Vicki, please, I won’t lose you as well” Heather emotionally pulled Vicki towards her, Vicki pulled away and lashed out, hitting Heather around the face “Don’t you ever touch me again” Vicki warned.

It was Chloe Charles’ first day back at the Crown and Horseshoe since her extended break, she smiled softly as Harry Campbell approached the bar “How’s Kayla doing?” Chloe asked concerned. “She’s not good” Harry admitted. Chloe and Harry’s conversation was overheard by a nearby Matthew Fitzgerald who was sat with his fiancée Olivia Kane at the bar “Has something happened to Kayla?” Matthew asked curiously. Harry eyed Chloe, not quite sure whether it was his place to spread the news of Patrick’s death. Chloe explained to Matthew and Olivia that Patrick had fallen and hit his head on his way home from the pub on Christmas Eve. Olivia gasped in horror “Poor Kayla, she must be in bits” She sighed sadly. News broke around the pub; Landlord Daniel Hastings called for quiet and announced that the next drink was on him out of respect for Patrick. “Is alright if I say a few words?” Matthew asked “Patrick was a friend” Olivia stroked Matthew’s arm as he stood in front of the busy pub. “Patrick was a great guy to have a few drinks with, always there to listen when you need someone to rant to. Fate is a cruel thing. I would like you all to raise a glass to Patrick Hale. A colleague, a partner…a friend” Matthew spoke passionately. Over in the corner of the pub, Michelle Fox comforted her fiancé David Fields as he struggled to comprehend the loss of his colleague, while Daniel and his ex-wife Lindsay Faraday wondered how Kayla was coping with her loss.
*
A teary Eileen Fields opened the front door where a concerned Duncan Faraday immediately opened his arms to her “I don’t even know why I’m crying, I barely knew the boy” confessed Eileen as she tried her tears with Duncan’s handkerchief. “Because it’s a tragedy and it’s happening only down the road” stated Duncan. “Life can be so hard, God only takes the good” Eileen reasoned. Duncan explained to Eileen that while he has called over to see if she is okay, he actually wanted to talk to her about the reason why she left Canvey Island in the first place. “I know about Michelle and David’s lie” Duncan revealed. As Eileen turned to face Duncan, she walked towards him “I’m not going to lie to you Duncan. I left Canvey Island because I didn’t agree with this lie. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like what my son was doing, but Duncan, we only knew what we heard and that was only half the story” Eileen softly announced. “I’m not asking you to lie, but I am asking you to keep their secret” As Duncan hesitated, Eileen explained to Duncan that Michelle had an affair which ended before she found out she was pregnant. “My David stepped in; he saved her, that can’t be a bad thing can it? The child needs a father and my David will make an amazing father” Eileen reasoned as she took Duncan’s hand “Life is too short Duncan, look at poor Kayla. Life is too short for getting caught up in something we don’t need to. I came back for two reasons Duncan. Firstly to be there for my son and Michelle. And secondly, I came back for you Duncan” confessed Eileen. Duncan smiled as he leant towards Eileen and embraced her with a hug.

“Can you tidy the table please?” Chrissie asked Kyle, but he just shrugged. “I’ll do it Mum” Molly interjected. Chrissie thanked her daughter and began to wash up the plates that Molly had collected. In the living room, Jay Willis, Chrissie’s wife stared at Kyle sternly “What?” grunted Kyle. “What is right, what’s with the attitude?” asked Jay. Kyle explained that Patrick’s death was a family matter and as she and Chrissie weren’t family they were not welcome. “You’ve a lot to learn little boy. Death isn’t something which you can wrap up neatly into a cliché. Patrick’s death is devastating for everyone, but above anyone else, Kayla. We’re here for Kayla and even though you don’t want it, we’re here for you and Molly too. So you need to man up, less of the naughty teenager act okay, you’re getting too old for it” Jay sternly slammed leaving Kyle speechless. As Jay made her way into the kitchen, Kayla joined the family. “Kayla darling would you like a cup of tea?” asked Chrissie. Kayla shrugged. “We’re all here for you” offered Jay. Kayla faintly smiled. Molly and Kyle nervously stood bedside each other. Chrissie asked Kayla is she slept well and would she like them to do anything. Kayla remained silent. “The vicar called earlier. I told him you were sleeping and that I didn’t want to disturb you.” Chrissie placed a cup of tea in front of Kayla. “He left his number if you need to talk” said Chrissie as Kayla began to cry. “Okay, come on darling. It’s okay. He’s with you, he’s looking down on you” Chrissie whispered as she put her arm around Kayla “He’s gone to a better place” Kayla pushed Chrissie away and stared at her. “A better place? No, he’s not…get out…all of you… get out!” Kayla lashed out as Jay ushered the twins out of the room, while Chrissie told Kayla to call if she needed them. Once everyone had left the room, Kayla walked into the living room. Staring at the Christmas tree, Kayla’s eye was caught by an unopened present. Kayla bent down and read the label, ‘To my darling Kayla, all my love Patrick.’ Kayla opened the present and began to sob uncontrollably
At the Crown and Horseshoe, the atmosphere was sombre as the residents of Canvey Island took in the news of Patrick’s death. Daniel brightened up as Imogen Sandford approached the bar and greeted him flirtatiously, he inquired how she was dealing with the fallout from the Connor’s Christmas showdown, but Imogen just shrugged “Anthony will come round, he usually does” She replied. “Are you going to join me for a drink?” Imogen questioned. Daniel hesitated before Lindsay stepped forward “Have a break Daniel, me and Chloe are fine behind the bar, it’s not too busy” Lindsay pressed. Imogen smiled and told Daniel she would be sat in the corner. “Lindsay…” Daniel began. “It’s okay Daniel, you deserve a little happiness. I’m not quite sure Imogen would be my choice, but you seem to like her, so I say go for it” Lindsay encouraged. Daniel thanked his former wife and joined Imogen at her table.

Vicki sat on the beach staring out to sea; she ignored another call from her mother Heather and placed the phone back into her coat pocket. A passing Megan Donovan walking her grandfather’s golden Labrador stopped and asked Vicki if she was okay “What do you care? Go visit your prison break boyfriend” Vicki lashed out. Megan shook her head and walked away. Michael Connor approached Vicki from behind and sat down next to her “Not quite the Christmas we expected” Michael commented. Vicki leant her head on Michael’s shoulder and began to cry “Dad” She whimpered “Do I still call you that?” Michael placed his arm around Vicki “Vicki, I was the one who took you to your first day of Nursery school; I cleaned the blood from your knees when you fell over. I even warned your first boyfriend not to lay a hand on you when he took you to the school disco. You’re still my daughter Vicki; I don’t care if you have Robert Spencer’s genes. I will always be your dad” Michael promised. “I’m scared Dad” Vicki admitted “I’m scared of losing you” Michael cradled his daughter “I promise you Vicki, that will never happen.” Michael reassured.
*
Tate Yorke placed a cup of tea on the coffee table next to a sleeping Anthony Spencer, he stirred awake and sat up “What time is it?” He questioned. “A little after two” Tate answered. “You should’ve woke me” Anthony sighed, sitting up on the sofa. “I thought you could do with the lie in, you had a big shock last night” Tate reminded. “Thanks for the sofa, I couldn’t face being at home” Anthony stood up and stretched his arms “What did I do to deserve Ms Hellfire as a sister?” Anthony couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. “Well, Vicki obviously didn’t get any of your good heart…or good looks” Tate teased before encouraging Anthony to join him in the kitchen to make some pancakes.
*
Siobhan Spencer looked lovingly at her partner Josh Connor as she placed her hand on his shoulder, he turned around to see who was behind him. He reached up and patted Siobhan’s hand, Josh looked completely lost. “I don’t know what to do Shive” Josh confessed. Siobhan explained that he needed to be there for all his family. They all needed him, even Heather. “You’re defending her” Josh said crossly. “I’m not defending Heather. I wouldn’t. But she is your mother and she needs you just as much as Michael and Vicki” Siobhan stated. Josh leaned in close to Siobhan “You’re an amazing woman, you know that” Suddenly there was a knock at the front door, Siobhan opened the door with Josh stood in the hallway behind her. Stood on the doorstep was a tearful and bruised Heather. “Heather” gasped Siobhan. “I didn’t have anywhere else to go” a dishevelled Heather muttered. “You’re welcome here” Josh offered as Siobhan smiled proudly at him.

Night had once again fallen on Canvey Island and just as the day had started, Kayla was in her bedroom that she had shared with Patrick. Everywhere she looked, Kayla was constantly reminded of Patrick. She picked up his dirty clothes from the floor of their en-suite bathroom and moved his work shoes out of her way. As she made her messy bed, Kayla found one of Patrick’s socks “So that’s where it was” smiled Kayla “I found it Patrick.” Kayla turned towards the bedroom window and looked out over Collison Avenue. Starting to cry again, Kayla looked up to the sky “I don’t wanna be alone” Kayla whispered. “You’re not” stated Kyle, who was stood at the bedroom door “We’re here for you” whispered Molly. As an emotional Kayla cried, the twins both rushed over to her and cradled her in their arms “Oh Patrick” Kayla cried as Kyle and Molly hugged their broken foster mother

2x26: 'His luck began the day he met me' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty Six It was opening time on the brisk cold New Year’s Eve morning at the Crown and Horseshoe pub and Lindsay Faraday was preparing for a quiet shift due to most of the residents of Canvey Island attending the wedding of Olivia Kane and Matthew Fitzgerald. The Crown and Horseshoe would later be hosting the wedding reception as well as celebrating the start of a brand new year. Lindsay grabbed her phone from the side of the till and searched for her ex-husband Daniel Hastings’ number “Hiya Dan, I don’t know why we’re bothering to open up this morning, there’s nobody around” Lindsay said, hoping that Daniel would tell her to close up or even that he would cover her morning shift so she could attend the wedding. However, as Lindsay was holding her phone to her ear as well as cleaning the bar, a couple of old lads arrived “Forget it Daniel, the trio amigos are in for their usual” Lindsay sighed hanging up the phone. “Game of cards?” asked Mike. “Of course” Len replied. “In it to win today boys, I hope you brought your pensions” joked Ed. “Go on boys, over to your corner. I’ll bring you a round of drinks. Remember, match sticks only, the last thing I need is a raid for illegal gambling on New Year’s Eve” Lindsay smiled as he headed back behind the bar.
*
It was finally here. The moment she had longed for. As she looked at the sun dawn on her wedding day, Olivia Kane struggled to contain her excitement. As she let out a scream, Olivia shouted for her bridesmaids to wake up and help her to start getting ready. “It’s my wedding day” an over excited Olivia squealed as she tore the duvet cover off a sleeping Chloe Charles and Ava Donovan. “Oi” yawned an exhausted looking Ava. Chloe turned over and looked at Ava, she laughed “Bridezilla has finally arrived” Chloe teased. “We’ve no time for talking, come on” Olivia pressed as she darted out of the bedroom. Meanwhile, in the home he shared with his wife to be, Matthew Fitzgerald poured himself a glass of champagne. Matthew smiled faintly as he held up the glass, almost lost in his thoughts “To my love, this is for you” Matthew toasted. Back at Chloe’s flat, Olivia was sipping pink champagne as Chloe applied a pale nail varnish to Olivia’s nails. “This will go fantastically with your dress Liv” Chloe gushed. “I know” Olivia smiled smugly “I did pick it” She laughed. Ava walked out of the bedroom wearing her red strapless bridesmaid’s dress; she nervously folded her arms, praying that her faint scars wouldn’t be noticeable. “Oh my God, you look amazing” Chloe smiled. Olivia walked over to her niece “You look so beautiful my girl, so grown up. I’ll be the proudest aunt in the world today to have you standing by my side” Olivia began to tear up. “Stop it, you’ll make me start. We can’t have our make-up running down our faces, I don’t think panda eyes is the look you want to go for” Ava teased. The three girls laughed as Chloe offered more champagne “Is the Pope Catholic?” Olivia laughed.
*
Duncan Faraday smiled at his date Eileen Fields as he shut the door of his car, he laughed as Eileen tried to fix her head piece using her reflection in the car window. Nearby in the church car park, Katherine Lavery passed with her daughter Siobhan Spencer and her partner Josh Connor “She looks like a demented goose” Katherine commented, Siobhan giggled and rolled her eyes. “You look beautiful” Duncan glanced at Eileen lovingly. “Do you think it’s sitting okay?” Eileen worried. Duncan reassured Eileen that it looked perfect “I didn’t realise that I would be going to a wedding, so I didn’t really pack appropriately. I had to borrow this from Michelle and well…it’s not really me. It looks a bit cheap” Eileen admitted still battling with the head piece. Duncan laughed as he greeted the Spencers from afar. “Mum, Duncan is waving” Siobhan whispered as she waved back. As Duncan and Eileen entered the church, Katherine turned and muttered “Oh was he? I didn’t realise he was here yet” Katherine remarked. “I thought you said Eileen looked like a demented goose” Josh reminded Katherine of her earlier comment. Katherine guided Josh towards the church “Josh, there are times where a woman tells a little white lie, this is one of those times and a man who wishes to keep on his partner’s mother’s good side, keeps his eyes out front, smiles and keeps his mouth very much shut” Katherine announced. “Understood?” Josh nodded in agreement.
*
Inside the church, Duncan and Eileen sat in the fourth row from the front. Duncan elbowed Eileen and nodded towards the entrance “What do you make of that then?” Duncan asked. “What?” Eileen replied looking around. Anthony Spencer walked into the church holding the hand of Tate Yorke “Oh, I do love the gays” Eileen announced, standing up to greet Anthony and Tate. “Here you, blondie, what do you make of this?” Eileen gushed as she gestured Tate to look at her head piece. “Well, it’s no David Emmenule” Tate joked as Eileen laughed “Great sense of humour don’t you think?” Eileen smiled. However, Anthony stood nervously next to Tate, Duncan looked almost as nervous. “Well allow me to introduce myself, I’m Tate, I’m Anthony’s…” began Tate as Anthony interjected “He’s my boyfriend” Anthony confirmed as he looked at Tate, who took his hand reassuringly. “Isn’t that just lovely, such a good looking couple. You’d make gorgeous babies if only you weren’t two boys” Eileen elbowed Duncan to agree. “Yeah” Duncan muttered. Anthony and Tate took their seats as Duncan looked at Eileen “Why don’t I tell you all about the bees and the…bees?” Eileen laughed as she winked at Tate.
*
“He’s here!” Chloe shouted excitedly from the window, she waved at David Fields who had arrived in a beautiful cream vintage wedding car to take the girls to the church. Chloe downed the last drop of her champagne. “Who?” Olivia asked. “Santa…who do you think? It’s David, the car looks beautiful Liv” replied Chloe. Ava stood alone in the living room staring at her phone, she had been hoping to hear from her mother Naomi Donovan, but she was disappointed to see that there were no new calls logged on her phone. “You okay chick?” asked Chloe. “Just a little nervous” Ava revealed. Chloe hugged Ava and promised her that a repeat performance of Olivia’s previous wedding to Tom in which Olivia was left penniless at the altar would not be happening that day. Matthew loved her aunt and would do anything to make her happy. Ava smiled and let Chloe believe that was what she was worried about. David knocked at the door and smiled as Chloe answered “Well, don’t you girls just look beautiful” gushed David as he took in the view of Chloe and Ava in their matching red dresses. “If the bride looks half as good as the two of you, Matthew will be one lucky man.” David smiled. “His luck began the day he met me” a stunning looking Olivia stated humorously. Chloe called for hush so she could announce Olivia “Chloe, they can see me” laughed Olivia. “Drum roll please” Chloe looked sharply at David and Ava, who soon obliged “May I present Miss Olivia Kane, the bride” beamed Chloe as she stepped out of Olivia’s way to fully reveal the bride in her tight fitting silk wedding dress with beautiful lace trimmings.
* “You’re really going through with this aren’t you?” An irate Naomi Donovan snapped at her husband Cole. “Matthew asked me to be his best man, I feel touched even if you don’t. I have no reason not to do this” Cole barked. Naomi shook her head in disbelief and stated that Cole had every reason to refuse seeing as Matthew had been stalking them. “Just drop it Naomi, you’re like a broken record. Worse than a broken record, you’re like a broken record on constant repeat and you know what I’m sick of it. I’m so sick of you singing the same tune Naomi, now just drop it.” Cole snapped. “I can’t talk to you when you’re like this Cole, you really don’t get it do you? This is what he wants. For you to side with him, to make me look crazy” Naomi pleaded. “Believe me Naomi; you don’t need any help in that department” Cole replied sharply. Naomi walked away from Cole feeling betrayed “I don’t know who you are” Naomi sadly whispered. “There was a time when you would have done anything for me. Believed anything I’ve said. I’ve told you the worst of everything and now here we are and you believe someone else” A tear falls from Naomi’s eye as she turned away from her husband. Cole remained silent. “You’d better go, you wouldn’t want to be late” Naomi stated coldly. Cole leaned in to kiss Naomi on the cheek, but she pushed him away “Just go” She ordered. After Cole left, Naomi was left stood alone in the living room. She sighed as she took her tablets out of her bag. She took two pills from the medication bottle and washed them down with a glass of red wine
As she locked her front door, Michelle Fox clutched her stomach suddenly “Take it easy kiddo” Michelle tried to smile “Oh” She whimpered, making her way down the front garden path. She glanced back and giggled as her partner David’s Christmas lights flickered on and off. As she clicked her car key to open the car, Michelle felt a sudden throbbing pain. She dropped her keys and handbag and fell against the car “Oh God” Michelle gasped. Across Canvey Crescent, Steven Faraday and his wife Sophia were talking about the wedding “I do love a good wedding, I always cry” Sophia revealed. “No you don’t” replied a surprised Steven. “I do so, watching another good woman go to her doom” Sophia joked. As the couple laughed, they were startled and confused by Michelle’s cry for help. The couple ran across the road to her aid, Steven momentarily frozen to the spot. “Michelle, oh my God, are you okay?” Sophia asked in a panic as she tried to help her up. “Help me Steven, what are you standing there for?” Sophia pushed as Michelle explained that she thinks there is something wrong with the baby.” Sophia and Steven both helped Michelle walk towards their car “We have to take her to the hospital” Steven stated to Sophia as she gave him a worried look. “Please hurry” Michelle begged as the pain began to overwhelm her. Steven drove quickly out of the crescent as Sophia comforted an emotional Michelle.

Matthew stood nervously next to Cole at the altar “Is it too late to back out?” Matthew joked. Cole raised an eyebrow “Bad joke mate considering how Olivia’s last wedding panned out” Cole looked out towards the congregation, Eileen and Duncan sat patiently holding hands, Duncan’s granddaughter Mia smiling at the couple’s growing romance, Katherine couldn’t help herself but keep looking over, causing Siobhan to ask if she was jealous. Emily talked excitedly about her own dream wedding to Josh and his sister Vicki, while Anthony and Tate sat comfortably next to each other, happy to finally enjoy their relationship publically. As the wedding march began, played beautifully on the church organ, all the guests stood up and looked around to watch Olivia begin her walk down the aisle. Maid of Honour Chloe linked arms with Olivia to give her away, Ava followed behind. Olivia beamed as she smiled at Matthew, a feeling of relief washing over her to see him stood at the altar. “She looks stunning” Siobhan whispered to Katherine “I wish I could carry off a dress like that.” Chloe smiled walking down the aisle, catching the eye of Harry Campbell as she passed. He smiled at her admiringly making her heart skip a beat. As Olivia reached Matthew, he leant across and grabbed her hand lovingly; he squeezed it excitedly as they both took their places. “You look beautiful” Matthew whispered in his bride’s ear. The vicar smiled at the couple and began “Friends and family have gathered here today to witness the commitment of this man to this woman.” Meanwhile, at the Donovan house, Naomi was sat on the living room floor, family photographs scattered around her. She picked up an old photograph of her standing with Olivia and she became tearful. Downing the rest of her glass of wine, Naomi stood up clumsily “I can’t let you do this” Naomi determined “I can’t let you make the biggest mistake of your life.”

At Canvey Island General Hospital, Michelle couldn’t stop shaking as she waited for the doctor to return, Sophia tried to reassure her, but Michelle was getting irritated by Sophia’s optimism. “Why don’t you go and find Michelle a glass of water?” Steven suggested. Sophia agreed and promised to return as soon as she could. “Are you okay?” Steven asked. “I’m scared Steven” Michelle admitted. Steven took hold of Michelle’s hand and tried to reassure her as best he could “Have you called David?” Michelle nodded “His phone’s switched off for the wedding” She explained. The doctor returned and straightaway covered Michelle’s stomach with the cold ultrasound gel “Please tell me my baby’s going to be okay” Michelle pleaded. Michelle and Steven watched on tenterhooks as the doctor searched for a heartbeat. After what felt like hours, finally Michelle heard the sound she had been waiting for. “He’s got a perfectly normal heartbeat for a thirty one week pregnancy” The doctor reassured Michelle. “But what was that pain?” Michelle questioned. “Sometimes the pressure of the baby can take its toll on your body, I think he moved very abruptly causing the pain” Michelle breathed a sigh of relief and looked towards Steven. Steven stared at Michelle in disbelief “Thirty one weeks?” He repeated “I thought you were twenty five” Before Michelle could say anything, Sophia arrived back holding a cup of water. Steven looked horror-struck from Sophia back to Michelle, the expression on Michelle’s face revealing that Steven’s suspicion about the baby’s father was correct.

Olivia and Matthew stood opposite each other at the altar, listening intently to the Vicar’s reading, Olivia looked over at Cole and smiled sadly, both knowing that Olivia was hurt by Naomi’s refusal to attend the wedding, Olivia took a deep breath and looked around at her niece Ava, Ava’s smile gave Olivia the support she had so desperately wanted from her sister. Olivia felt her heart skip a beat as Matthew began his vows “Olivia Kane, the damsel in distress I was meant to save. From the moment I met you, you gave me a purpose, a feeling that I haven’t felt in a very long time. You are my other half Olivia, my shining star, the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with” Matthew spoke softly as Olivia felt the emotion building up inside of her. As Olivia took a deep breath to begin her own vows, the ceremony was interrupted by the sound of the church doors creaking open, every single person in the church turned around and watched as Naomi stumbled her way down the aisle. “Oh my God” Ava whispered in humiliation. Naomi’s eyes were a mixture of red and grey, her face full of desperation. Cole walked forward to stop Naomi as she reached the altar “Naomi, what do you think you’re doing?” He whispered loudly. Faces of confusion filled the congregation “She looks psychotic” Eileen commented to Duncan. “Mum, what’s wrong with her?” Emily asked Siobhan, who didn’t have an answer for her daughter. “Naomi” Olivia said tearfully. Naomi pushed past Cole and grabbed hold of Olivia’s hand and tried to pull her away from the altar “You can’t do this Olivia, you can’t marry that man” Naomi pleaded desperately

2x27: 'And here's me thinking our family was screwed up' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Forty Seven The guests at the wedding of Olivia Kane and Matthew Fitzgerald sat frozen to their seats as they watched events unfold. The bride’s sister Naomi Donovan was begging Olivia not to go through with the wedding, adamant that Matthew was responsible for tormenting the Donovan family for the past year. Naomi’s daughter Ava stepped forwards and pleaded with her mum to stop, but Naomi was crazed as she listed all of Matthew’s crimes. In a temper, Olivia threw her bouquet onto the floor and screamed for Naomi to stop. “This is my wedding day Naomi” Olivia said tearfully “How can you do this to me?” She cried. “Olivia please listen to me, I’m your big sister, I have always protected you ever since you were a little girl” Naomi spoke so quickly that it was difficult to understand what she was saying “I protected you from dad, I let him hurt me so he wouldn’t hurt you. Olivia, that man was going to abuse you the same way he did to me, if I hadn’t…” Before Naomi could say anything else, Cole leapt forwards and tried to stop Naomi from revealing the truth about Samuel Kane’s death. “If you hadn’t what Naomi?” Olivia questioned. The congregation were on tenterhooks as they waited to hear what Naomi would say next. “Let go of me Cole” Naomi ordered. “I did it for you Liv; I killed him to protect you” Olivia shook her head and whispered the word no over and over again. Naomi broke free from Cole and grabbed hold of Olivia “Liv, please, everything I have ever done has been for you” Olivia forcefully held onto Naomi’s hand and dragged her back up the aisle and pushed her aggressively through the church doors. The atmosphere inside the church could be cut with a knife as the guests struggled to comprehend the events of the wedding. Outside the church, Olivia pushed Naomi away from her “How dare you!” Olivia lashed out “How dare you ruin my wedding, you accuse my fiancé of stalking of you and then tell me that you murdered my father in cold blood” Naomi rushed forwards and tried to force Olivia to listen to her “Stop Naomi, stop” Olivia slapped Naomi causing Naomi to lose her temper and fight back.

At Canvey Island General Hospital, Michelle Fox awkwardly sat sipping her water as Sophia Faraday fussed around her, Sophia’s husband Steven glared at Michelle in anger as he struggled to come to terms with the knowledge that he was the father of Michelle’s baby rather than her partner David Fields. “Soph, why don’t you take the car to the church and see if you can find David?” Steven suggested. Sophia looked over at Michelle “Will you be okay Michelle?” Sophia asked kindly. “I’ll be fine, thank you Sophia for everything today” Michelle tried to smile, but the guilt felt overwhelming. Sophia kissed Steven goodbye, leaving the former couple alone. “I asked you if this baby was mine Michelle and you lied” Steven snapped angrily. “I was doing what I thought was best” Michelle tried to defend herself. “Does David know he’s not the father?” Steven questioned. “Of course he does” Michelle frowned. “So it’s just me you lied to then” Steven began pacing around the hospital room “What are we going to do?” Steven muttered shaking his head. “We’re going to carry on the way we are. Steven, you and me, it was just one big mistake and you have a life with Sophia and Mia, are you really going to destroy it all because we were too weak and selfish?” Steven stared at Michelle emotionally “But this is my child.”
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay Faraday and her daughter Megan Donovan were putting the finishing touches to the bridal table. Megan stared at the centre pieces sadly, Lindsay softly put her hand on Megan’s shoulder “You’ll get another chance Megan, you’ll get the wedding you deserve one day” Lindsay tried to be supportive. Changing the subject, Megan talked about how excited Ava was to be a bridesmaid “I feel bad not being there, but I just couldn’t handle seeing someone else’s happy ever after.” Interrupting the women’s conversation, Imogen Sandford walked into the empty pub and sat herself down at the bar, taking a glass of champagne in the process “Those are for the wedding guests” Lindsay pointed out. Imogen shrugged “No Daniel today?” Lindsay moved the tray of champagne glasses away from Imogen “It’s his day off today, I thought you would have known that Imogen.” Imogen frowned “I’m not his wife, we just had a few kisses under the mistletoe” Lindsay hesitated for a moment “Imogen, Daniel is a lovely man, I wouldn’t want to see him get hurt” Imogen raised an eyebrow “If he’s so lovely, why did you divorce him?” Imogen asked sharply. Choosing not to answer, Lindsay walked away and finished setting the bridal table.

Cole and Matthew both rushed towards the fighting sisters, Cole dragged Naomi away, while Matthew helped Olivia stand up. Covered in dust and mud, Olivia cursed furiously “My dress is ruined Matthew, this whole day is ruined” Olivia cried. Matthew held Olivia and tried to calm her down, while Cole tried to stop Naomi from lashing out at him. “Mum, please” Ava appeared from the church and pleaded with her mum to calm down. Cole asked Ava to look after her mother for a moment as he walked towards Naomi’s doctor who had just arrived “There has to be something you can do, she’s won’t stop” Cole pleaded. Dr Arthur walked slowly towards Naomi who was now curled up leaning against the wall in tears. “Naomi” He whispered quietly, kneeling down so that he was at the same level as Naomi “Naomi, I think you should come with me” He pressed. “I’m not mad” She cried. “Please don’t take me away” Cole pulled Ava closer as she buried her face in his chest. Olivia and Matthew stood next to each other, both in shock. Naomi stood up, she looked vulnerable and frail, she pulled at Cole “Please don’t let them take me Cole” Cole closed his eyes tightly, as though he was in pain. Naomi then looked at Ava “Ava” She whispered. Dr Arthur put his arm around Naomi and guided her away, Naomi turned around and stared at Olivia “Olivia please, please don’t let them do this” Olivia walked forwards and lightly stroked Naomi’s hair “You’re not well Naomi; you have to let them help you. Please Naomi, let them help you” Olivia pleaded.
*
Inside the church, Maid of Honour Chloe Charles was stood in front of the guests, trying to convince them to remain seated. The church was full of gossip as the guests speculated about the Donovan family. “Who would have thought it, Naomi Donovan a killer” Katherine Lavery commented to her daughter Siobhan Spencer “It sounds to me that she was pushed to her limit” Siobhan responded “If anyone tried to hurt Emily that way…” Siobhan let her sentence trail off. “And here’s me thinking our family was screwed up” Vicki Connor whispered to her older brother Josh. A confused Sophia entered the church and made her way towards her father in law Duncan Faraday and her teenage daughter Mia “What happened to the bride and groom?” Sophia questioned. Duncan’s date Eileen Fields filled Sophia in about Naomi’s interruption. Seeing David out the corner of her eye, Sophia politely cut off Eileen and rushed over to David “The baby’s okay David I promise, but you should be with Michelle, she needs you” Sophia pressed. David rushed out of the church, leaving Sophia to explain to Chloe. Chloe sighed as she walked over to her friend Harry Campbell “Welcome to the typical Canvey Island wedding” Chloe commented, trying to hide her worry about Olivia
Olivia was still outside the church in her muddied and torn wedding dress, she was shaking as she looked down at her once beautiful gown “It’s ruined, my dress is ruined” Olivia stated, almost not caring she was so deep in thought. Matthew walked slowly over to his bride and took her hands in his. “I love you, even in a torn and muddied wedding dress, I love you Olivia and I want you to be my wife, please marry me” Matthew begged as Olivia turned away from him. “I can’t Matthew, not today, not after everything that has just happened” Olivia whispered softly as she walked away from Matthew. “Go on then, walk. Walk away Olivia, cause that’s not hard at all is it? No, it’s the here, the now that’s hard.” Matthew shouted emotionally “If you walk away from me Olivia, that’s it. We’re done” Matthew paused as Olivia turned back to face him, his expression softened as he took in the defeated look on his fiancée’s face “Please Liv, please don’t do to me what Tom did to you” an emotional Matthew pleaded, as if they were the magic words, Olivia walked slowly back towards her fiancé, without saying a word, she simply whispered “Matthew” She paused for a moment “Marry me?” She asked. “I thought you’d never ask” Matthew joked as he took Olivia’s hand and made their way back into the church.
*
A sedated Naomi was watched sadly by her devastated husband Cole; tears fell down his face as he turned around to face Naomi’s doctor. “It’s for the best isn’t it? She needs help. Tell me it’s for her, please tell me it will make her better” Cole pleaded. Dr Arthur explained to Cole that Naomi was a very ill woman and needed professional help. “Then give me the papers” Cole said sternly as he looked back at Naomi. Dr Arthur took a deep breath as he held out the clipboard towards Cole; it had already been signed by himself and another doctor. Cole signed the form which would allow him to section Naomi and handed them back to the doctor. He softly stroked Naomi’s hair and kissed her tenderly on the forehead “I’m so sorry Naomi. Please forgive me, I love you” Cole whispered as he stared at his wife, so broken, so fearful.
*
“Today, I vow my life to you Matthew, you fixed what had been broken in the past, you brought light where darkness was and you gave me hope when I had none” Olivia paused as a tear escaped from her eye as she thought about her sister. “Today…today, my life begins” Matthew smiled as Olivia looked into his eyes; however, tears fell from hers. As Matthew and Olivia left the church hand in hand as man and wife, Cole stood outside Naomi’s hospital room, watching heartbroken as she is told the devastating news that she has been sectioned. Matthew and Olivia raised a glass of champagne and toasted their marriage, while Naomi begged a nurse to call her husband and bring him back to her. An over emotional Naomi collapsed to the floor, crying. While, inside their wedding car, Matthew promised to love Olivia like she has never been loved before.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay greeted the wedding guests excitedly “Champagne?” She offered as her father Duncan and his date Eileen arrived. “I will please, for the shock” Eileen stated as she took her glass and quickly downed it. Lindsay laughed and looked at her father for an explanation “There were a few blips at the wedding” Duncan revealed. “Blips is quite an understatement” Eileen commented as she explained to Lindsay in detail the events at the wedding. Meanwhile, over in the corner of the pub, Tate Yorke brought over a drink for his boyfriend Anthony Spencer “Thanks mister” Anthony smiled, Tate leaned in and kissed Anthony smiling at his new pet name. “Thank God we haven’t eaten yet” a passing Vicki commented. Anthony shook his head in annoyance. “You look like you could do with a good meal actually” Tate began until Anthony stopped him. “She’s not worth it, not today anyway” Anthony pressed. However, irked by Anthony’s comment, Vicki storms towards him and Tate “Did he tell you he tried to top himself, another thing our Anthony failed at” Vicki spat spitefully. Tate began to defend his boyfriend’s honour, but Anthony had had enough “You know what Vicki, since Siobhan and Josh got together, I’ve tried, really hard to like you. To even look at you, to be in the same room as you, but you know what, I don’t even want to try anymore. You talk about being sick, well Vicki, I feel physically sick every time I think about how you are somehow related to me. You are a vile, pathetic little girl, a disgusting, horrible bully” Anthony lashed out finally “You are nothing to me Vicki and you can’t hurt me anymore” Anthony turned and walked away with Tate, leaving an embarrassed and hurt Vicki in his wake.
*
David ran from his car into the hospital as he desperately tried to reach his pregnant partner Michelle. However, as David was about to enter Michelle’s room, Steven walked out seething. David was startled and shocked as Steven punched him causing him to fall over. “You think you can steal my baby and I wouldn’t find out” Steven stormed as David struggled to stand up. “Steven, what are you talking about?” David questioned. “Don’t play dumb, I know everything” revealed Steven “He’s my son.” David shook his head “And she was meant to be the woman you loved, but you used her and then walked away. Tell me, why do you deserve him?” David stated as he walked away. Inside her private room, Michelle was both relieved and delighted to see David. “Oh David” Michelle sighed as he took her in his arms. “Is everything okay?” He panicked. “Everything is fine” She reassured. However, Steven entered the room “Everything is anything but fine” Steven slammed. Michelle explained to David that Steven knew the truth about the baby “I guessed” David confirmed as he pointed to his now blackened eye. Michelle asked Steven what he wanted. “What do I want? What do you think I want?” Steven stormed. “We did what was right for me and the baby. You chose her Steven, you wanted Sophia and you went back to her” Michelle said tearfully as David took her hand supportively. “You never gave me a choice, you never gave me a chance” Steven said sadly. “You have a choice now” David began. “Go on, call Sophia, tell her” A shocked Michelle looked at David in horror as he continued to talk. “Tell her everything, how you had an affair and you’re the father of Michelle’s baby, but answer me truthfully Steven. How do you think Sophia will react? Or Mia? Do you honestly think they will ever be able to forgive you?” David pressed. As a pensive Steven started at the couple, David put his arm around Michelle, the look on his face hopeful that his gamble has paid off.
At the wedding reception, Eileen began to sing Auld Lang Syne which softly faded into Susan Boyle’s version. With Duncan by her side, Eileen smiled fondly. However, she didn’t notice her mobile ringing, her son David trying to contact her. Meanwhile, an oblivious Sophia arrived back at the hospital to find her husband. At the Donovan house, a tearful Ava sat alone in her bedroom watching the blood drip from her arm. Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Matthew tried to take Olivia’s mind off her sister by focusing on the couple’s first dance as man and wife, Josh and Siobhan looked on, admiring the couple. Katherine couldn’t help but stare at Duncan and Eileen dishearteningly. Across the room, Anthony and Tate shared a kiss, while in the toilet; Vicki sat alone as she prepared a line of cocaine. Naomi sat alone in her hospital room, she sang Auld Lang Syne as the island rang in the New Year, tears stained her face. While, finally at home, Cole closed the front door, he felt lost and alone. He made his way upstairs and entered his bedroom. He looked sadly at his marital bed and then turned to see the mess on the floor. Cole knelt down to start cleaning up, but found an old enveloped. He opened it and almost a year to the day; the same letter fell out ‘KILLER.’ Cole screwed the letter up and threw it across the room as he started to cry

2x28: 'You don't need luck, you have the truth' (45-Minute Episode) | Written by Hannah | Episode Forty Eight Chloe Charles stood outside the Crown Court in Portsmouth; she took a deep breath and tried to smile as her best friend Olivia Fitzgerald walked towards her with police officer Harry Campbell. “I brought you a cup of tea” Olivia held out the cup towards Chloe, who took it, but didn’t drink it. “It will help calm your nerves” Harry advised. “I’ll tell you what will help calm my nerves, a nice large glass of Pinot” Chloe joked. “Once this is all over, I’ll buy you a bottle” Olivia promised as they were approached by Chloe’s friend and boss Lindsay Faraday as well as the prosecution lawyer Heather Connor “How are you Chloe?” Heather asked kindly. “It’s just one more hill to climb over, then I get to move on properly” Chloe confided, her voice slightly shaking as she thought about how big the hill actually was. Lindsay supportively hugged Chloe “You can get through this Chloe; you’re one of the strongest people I know.” Chloe smiled and thanked her friends for being there on one of the hardest days of her life.
* Cole Donovan stood outside his daughter Ava’s bedroom, it had been a week since Cole had to make the devastating decision to have his wife Naomi sectioned and Ava had been avoiding all contact. Cole lightly knocked on the door and slowly walked in. Cole asked Ava how she was doing as he sat down on the end of her bed “I don’t understand how we got like this” Ava began to open up. “Noah’s in prison and mum’s in the looney bin, a year ago we were finally going to get to be a family again” Cole hugged Ava tightly “I wish there was something I could say to make it all better, but I don’t have any answers Ava, we just have to be there for each other and your mum” Cole tried to sound positive, but he wasn’t sure that he succeeded.
*
Olivia and Lindsay sat together in the gallery, watching in disgust as Derek Williams stood in the courtroom, unfazed by the judge’s words. “Derek Mark Williams is charged with the rape of Chloe Marie Charles on the 6th September 2013 and Nicole Grant on the 1st November 2013 and the attempted rape of Jennifer Hannigan on the 6th December 2013. It is your chance today to hear all the evidence against Mr Williams and to determine whether he is guilty or not guilty.” In the gallery, Olivia looked at Lindsay “Look at him, he doesn’t give a crap about what he’s done” Olivia spoke with hate in her voice. Heather stood up after being acknowledged by the judge. “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this case today is about three innocent women being targeted by a cruel predator that hides by his anonymous acts. Today, the Crown court will prove to you that Mr Williams violently raped two women and attempted to rape a third” Heather spoke passionately, glancing briefly towards the defendant.
*
In a small café near the beach, Anthony Spencer sat staring at his hot chocolate while he listened to his friend Mia Faraday complain about her father Steven’s mood “I thought everyone was happy at new year, that whole fresh new beginning thing, but he’s like the new year Grinch” Mia rambled before realising that Anthony wasn’t actually paying attention “Am I boring you?” Mia questioned. Anthony shook himself out of his daze and apologised “I feel like my world hasn’t stopped spinning, I can’t stop thinking about Vicki being my half-sister, I must have done something really bad in a previous life” He pondered. “Have you noticed a change in Vicki recently?” Mia suddenly asked. Anthony raised an eyebrow “She’s got bitchier if that’s even possible” Anthony stated. “I know I should feel sorry for her, but I just can’t have it in me Mia. She’s made my life hell for as long as I can remember, I honestly don’t care what she’s going through right now.” Anthony admitted before swiftly changing the subject.
*
Olivia and Lindsay stood together by the coffee machine talking about Derek, Olivia was fuming at Derek’s callous attitude “He’ll get what’s coming to him” Lindsay promised “There’s not a jury in the world that will find him innocent.” Olivia nodded “I know, but there’s always that doubt. Britain isn’t exactly known for its fair justice system.” Lindsay sipped her coffee “How’s your sister doing?” Lindsay asked changing the subject to Naomi’s hospitalisation. Olivia looked at Lindsay sadly “She won’t see anyone, not even Cole.” Olivia explained “I should have stayed with her” She confided. “I love Matthew, honestly I do. But I feel so guilty whenever I think about Naomi, I thought I was going to lose him and now I feel like I’ve lost my big sister” Olivia started to get emotional, but shook her head quickly “I can’t do this, not now. Today is about Chloe, I won’t let her down like I did Naomi.” Meanwhile, Chloe and Harry sat nervously in the witness waiting room, instinctively Harry reached across and held onto Chloe’s hand “Don’t think about giving evidence, focus on how you’ll feel once this is all over” Harry advised supportively. “Easy for you to say, giving evidence is your job” Chloe snapped, instantly regretting her harsh tone of voice “I’m sorry Harry, I just feel…” Chloe stopped. “I know” Harry whispered. “Chloe Charles” the voice of a court clerk echoed around the small room. Chloe took me a deep breath “Wish me luck” She said quietly to Harry “You don’t need luck, you have the truth.”
*
At the garage, David Fields found himself stood staring at the overalls hung up on the cupboard door, he was so lost in his own thoughts, he didn’t notice Kyle Campbell let himself into the garage. “It still feels like he’s coming back” Kyle stated. David nodded “I can’t bring myself to move his overalls” David admitted “Patrick wasn’t too fond of me when I first took over the garage” David laughed at the memory “But he got used to my Irish ways, even got to like them” David smiled. “How’s Kayla coping?” Kyle shrugged “She barely comes out of her room, my mums even moved in to help out, another thing to thank Patrick for” Kyle tried to sound annoyed, but the hurt in his voice was obvious. Both David and Kyle stood in silence as they stared at where Patrick’s overall hung.
*
Imogen Sandford took a deep breath as she approached Michael Connor who was stood at the bar of the Crown and Horseshoe pub; she ordered two shots of Tequila from Tate Yorke, who had started work at the pub that day. Michael raised an eyebrow as Imogen placed the shot in front of him “You think I want to drink with you?” He spat. Imogen shrugged “We’re the injured parties in this situation Michael, all we’ve got is each other” Imogen said softly
Chloe stood in the witness box; she felt the stares of the jury and of the people sitting in the gallery. She refused to look at her attacker Derek, who was leering at her from his seat. “Miss Charles” Heather spoke softly “On the night in question, you were at Nicola’s Cocktail Bar with a friend, is that correct?” Chloe nodded “Yes” Her voice cracked. “Can you speak up?” The judge demanded. Chloe closed her eyes tightly and repeated “Yes, that is correct.” Heather continued “Can you talk us through what happened that night, beginning to end” Chloe took a deep breath and explained how she and Olivia had been enjoying a few drinks and how Olivia’s now husband Matthew Fitzgerald had arrived to pick Olivia up, but Chloe had wanted to stay. Chloe felt physically sick as she spoke in detail about what happened once she had left the bar. “He threw me against the wall and ripped off my tights” Chloe spoke, her voice trembling. “Take your time Miss Charles; would you like a glass of water?” The judge offered. Chloe shook her head “I just want to get this over with” Chloe paused “I screamed at first and tried to fight him off, but he was too strong. Look at me, I’m just a small little woman and he’s…” Chloe looked towards Derek, she cupped her mouth with her hand as though she was about to gag. Chloe stopped and again took another deep breath “I gave up” Chloe admitted “I gave up and closed my eyes, praying that he would just finish and leave me alone, praying that he wouldn’t kill me” Chloe began to cry as she thought back to that horrific night. As Heather concluded, Derek’s defence lawyer Alan Prescott stood up and began “Would you say you are a good time girl Miss Charles?” He asked. Chloe frowned “I don’t understand what you mean” She admitted. “I just mean, you’re a young woman who likes to go out with friends, have a couple of drinks and talk to a few men” Alan explained coldly. “I guess” Chloe sighed. “We have witness statements Miss Charles, people who say they saw you leave the bar with a man” Heather interrupted “Objection your Honour, Miss Charles’ behaviour is not in question here.” Alan defended his line of questioning “I’m just explaining to the jury that on the night in question, Miss Charles was ‘up for it’ as described one of these witnesses.” Olivia shook her head in disgust “How dare you” Olivia lashed out “He’s the one on trial, not Chloe” She shouted, Lindsay attempting to quieten her. “Sit down and be quiet otherwise you will be removed from the gallery” The judge warned Olivia. “I left the bar and the man got in a taxi alone” Chloe explained “I don’t need to defend myself here; yes I had a few drinks and kissed a guy, so what? He attacked me from behind” Chloe pointed at Derek “I didn’t lead him on, there was nothing that I did that night that would have given him the idea that I wanted to have sex with him. He hit me and beat me and raped me, what I wore that night or what I drank has no relevance to what he did to me or to the other women that he hurt” Chloe spoke confidently and held her head up high.

Ava took a deep breath as she stood outside HM Kingston Prison, still undecided whether she was going to go ahead and visit her brother Noah. Eventually Ava took a deep breath and walked in, trying not to let her surroundings unnerve her. Ava took her seat in the visiting room and nervously waited for Noah, as he walked in Ava struggled to look him in the eye. “Ava” He whispered. “I didn’t think I’d see you” Noah admitted. “I’m not here to forgive you” Ava said bluntly. “I wanted to look you in the eye and ask you why you let me get shot” Ava explained coldly. Noah closed his eyes, fresh guilt overtook him “I was a coward Ava; I’m supposed to be your older brother, the one person in this world who protects you unconditionally. I don’t expect you to ever be able to forgive me Aves, I wouldn’t forgive me either” Ava looked unmoved by Noah’s emotion. “Ava, I never wanted anybody to get hurt, I had to repay a debt to Tommy Thompson. It was supposed to be in and out, easy as, but everything got out of hand” Noah tried to explain. Ava let a tear slip out “Our family is in ruins Noah and I need my big brother” Noah reached across the table to hold Ava’s hand, but she pulled it away “You have me Aves” Ava shook her head “I came here today cause I want to understand why you did what you did, but I don’t think I ever can Noah. I won’t be coming back” Ava stood up boldly and walked away from Noah without looking back.

Chloe walked out into the corridor to find Harry in a heated conversation with Nicki Grant, the other victim of Derek Williams. “Nicki, what’s wrong?” Chloe rushed towards Nicki and tried to calm her down. “I can’t do this Chloe, I can’t stand up there and face him” Nicki cried. Chloe looked towards Harry “Can you give us some time?” She pressed. Harry nodded and left the girls alone. Chloe and Nicki walked outside, the cold air soothing compared to the claustrophobic heat of the court. “I’m not going to lie Nicki, his lawyer ripped me apart, he made me feel like a cheap slapper” Chloe confided “But Derek Williams is the one in the wrong here, he violated us Nicki, he took something that we can never get back, but what we can do is make sure that he pays for what he did” Chloe wiped away one of Nicki’s tears “But what if I can’t do it?” Nicki worried. “You know what I see when I look at you, I see someone like me. I don’t see a victim, I see a survivor.”

Kyle walked into the Macey house and heard his twin sister Molly helping their mother Chrissie put the dinner out onto the table, without a word Kyle sat down in his usual spot. A few minutes later, the Campbells were relieved as the twins’ foster mother Kayla Macey joined them for dinner for the first time since Patrick’s death. Kyle smiled at Kayla supportively as Molly poured her a glass of orange juice.

After Nicki and Harry had given their evidence, the jury had deliberated over a verdict. Finally they made their way back into the court room. Chloe sat nervously between Olivia and Harry, Nicki on the other side of Harry. As the judge questioned whether the jury had reached a decision, Chloe reached across and held onto Nicki’s hand tightly. They both waited with bated breath, the foreman of the jury was stood, but did not look over into the gallery. “Do you find the defendant guilty or not guilty?” The judge asked. “Guilty” He answered. Chloe gasped in relief and looked at Nicki. The girls hugged and then looked over at Derek. Chloe felt a sense of power and justice, the fear was gone and for the first time in a very long time, she felt safe.

Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Chloe and Harry shared a moment where she thanked him for his support during her ordeal “You gave me the courage to face what he did Harry, I will always be grateful for that” Chloe smiled as she sipped her champagne

2x29: 'Always up for a pint, always up for a laugh' | Written by Joe | Episode Forty Nine Looking at the alarm clock on the bedside table, Imogen Sandford smiles to herself. After fixing her hair, she slowly turns to put her arm around Michael Connor, whose bed she is laying in. “Morning” whispers Imogen as a startled Michael wakes up. “I think I fancy breakfast in bed” states Imogen as she kisses Michael. However, Michael pulls away “What time is it? You need to go, before the kids wake up” Michael panics as he jumps out of bed. Struggling to find his clothes, Imogen laughs when she throws his boxers at him “Looking for these?” teases Imogen. “Get up, come on, get dressed” smarts Michael. “You weren’t saying that last night soldier” laughs Imogen as she begins to get dressed. Across the landing, Michael’s daughter Vicki wakes up and immediately grabs the bottle of water beside her bed and begins to drink it. Gasping after she has finished the bottle, Vicki looks down at her hands which are shaking. Getting up and feeling light-headed, Vicki makes her way to the bathroom. Michael, seeing Vicki, pushes Imogen back into his bedroom. “Make up your mind handsome.” Ssh” Michael says. Once Vicki is in the bathroom, Michael and Imogen make their way down the stairs. Standing at the front door, Imogen tells Michael that last night wasn’t a mistake. She’s fancied him for years and wants it to happen. Michael tells Imogen that he’ll call her. “Make sure you do” says Imogen as she kisses Michael goodbye.

Turning on the radio in the kitchen of the Macey home, Chrissie Campbell sighs loudly “It’s gonna be fine” Chrissie’s wife Jay Willis hugs her tightly. Taking comfort from her embrace, Chrissie kisses her wife “Come on, let’s get ready” says Jay. Upstairs, Kyle Campbell is standing in front of the mirror in his suit “Stupid thing” snaps Kyle as he throws his tie across the room after failing to do it up right. Knocking at the door, Kyle’s step mother Jay makes her way into his room “You okay?” asks Jay tentatively. “No” storms Kyle as he slams his fist into his wardrobe. “Take it easy mate” reasons Jay. “I can’t do the stupid thing” pushes Kyle as he fights back tears. Jay picks up his tie and puts it around his neck and begins to tie it. Kyle feels a lump in his throat before finally speaking “Patrick promised he’d show me how to do it right” tears Kyle as Jay hugs him “I miss him.” Outside the bedroom door, Kyle’s twin sister Molly is also crying. Her mother Chrissie walks past and puts out her arms, Molly runs to her mother. Meanwhile, Kayla Macey lets herself into her home through the front door. Dressed in black with a red rose pinned to her jacket, Kayla smiles as she looks at a photograph of Patrick. Winking at it, she begins to speak “Give me strength today darling.” Suddenly there’s a knock at the door, opening it, Kayla finds the Hale family waiting on the doorstep. “Kayla” Gareth Hale, Patrick’s father whispers with sorrow as he hugs her, Patrick’s mother Paulina and brother Nathan follow behind.

At their flat, Olivia Fitzgerald is drinking a cup of tea as she looks out the window. She blesses herself as the hearse containing Patrick’s coffin passes by. “Safe journey” Olivia whispers before she is interrupted by her husband Matthew talking on the phone “Yeah, okay. And the flights are when…yeah that should be fine. Sorry about all this mate, cheers” Matthew hangs up the phone “Gran Canarias darling” smiles Matthew as he dances towards Olivia. Olivia however doesn’t look amused. “The hearse just passed” Olivia states “Poor Kayla, what she must be going through” Olivia says thoughtfully. Matthew sighs loudly “Listen Liv, I know you’re not going to like this, but our honeymoon is booked and paid for…” begins Matthews. “And one of my friends is burying her partner today, not to mention my sister is locked up in a mental home” announces Olivia “My honeymoon is the last thing on my mind.”

Making her way to school, Vicki stops to talk to her boyfriend Kyle. Kyle is standing outside the Macey house as Vicki approaches “Looking sharp” jokes Vicki. Kyle doesn’t respond. “You up in court?” Vicki asks. “It’s Patrick’s funeral today” slams Kyle. Vicki hangs her head as she explains that she had forgotten. “I’m sorry babe” says Vicki as she leans in to kiss Kyle. “Whattya doing?” Kyle pushes Vicki away. “I’m trying to give you a bit of comfort” Vicki moves away from Kyle as he prepares to go back inside. “I’ll see you at the church yeah?” asks Kyle who is quickly disappointed when Vicki says she’s got school “Coffins kind of creep me out” She confesses. Vicki then chases after Kyle as he storms off “Listen babe, I can meet up with you after. Maybe we can do some…have you got any on you now?” an anxious Vicki asks. Kyle looks her up and down “You are such a tramp, is that all you want? Just get lost Vicki, I’ve got better things to do than you.”

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Landlord Daniel Hastings and his former wife Landlady Lindsay Faraday are joined by her father Duncan Faraday and his partner Eileen Fields. Eileen’s son David awkwardly stood next to Steven and Sophia Faraday, while their daughter Mia stood with her best friend Anthony Spencer and his boyfriend Tate Yorke. “Today isn’t going to be easy for any of us, least of all Kayla and those kids. But Patrick was our mate, always good for a pint, always up for a laugh and could always be counted on when you found yourself in trouble. Here’s to you mate” an emotional David raises his glass and smiles at Olivia and Matthew as they walk into the pub “To Patrick.” “To Patrick” Everyone chanted back. With that, Sophia slips away from the crowd and makes her way to the toilets. “It’s terribly sad. He was so young, so much left to do” tears Eileen. Duncan puts his hand on Eileen’s shoulder; she grabs it and holds onto it for comfort. “He was a gentleman” states Duncan to which his son Steven agrees. “One in a million.” At the other side of the bar, Anthony is stood talking to Tate “You okay?” asks Tate. Anthony says that he is fine. “You can tell me” Tate presses. “It’s just today, the funeral. It brings it all back” begins Anthony. “My Dad, when he died. It just brings it all back.” Tate leans forward and clasps Anthony’s hand in his. In the toilets of the Crown and Horseshoe, Sophia is startled when she hears the doors open. Panicking, Sophia tries to fix her handbag, but in doing so, everything falls out. “Mum, what are you like” laughs Mia as she helps her mother pick up the contents up. “It’s fine, I can do it” snaps Sophia. Mia reels from her mother’s outburst, but she continues to help. “I said stop Mia, I’ll do it.” However, Mia quickly stops and looks up at Sophia. Holding out her hand, Sophia is shocked to see that Mia has found her pack of contraceptive pills.

“Firstly, I’d like to welcome you all here as we celebrate the life of Patrick Hale. A partner, a father, a son, a brother and a friend” proudly speaks Rev Henry Lyons as he looks over at Kayla with sympathy in his eyes. Sitting next to her, Kyle struggles to contain his emotions. “I can’t do this” repeats Kyle over and over. “You okay darling?” Kayla asks, struggling to contain her own sadness. Kyle begins to softly cry and shakes his head “I’m sorry, I can’t…” Kyle mutters before standing up and walking briskly out of the church in a state. Chrissie and Harry both stand at the same time, but Jay tells them that she will go after Kyle. Molly moves closer to take Kayla’s hand, while Patrick’s father Gareth puts his arm around Kayla and supportively squeezes her shoulder. “If Molly could please come forward” asks Rev Lyons, he smiles with encouragement as Molly nervously makes her way to the altar. “Patrick always liked to help me with my English homework. He wouldn’t want me to tell you all this, but he enjoyed poetry” confesses Molly as the crowd smiled fondly at the idea that a tough man like Patrick would enjoy the works of Robert Frost. Molly clears her throat and begins her speech. “Do not stand at my grave…” Molly’s voice fades as Jay finally finds a tearful Kyle sitting on the ground outside the church. “It’s not fair, why him?” Kyle says sadly as Jay sits down beside him. “Terrible things happen all the time Kyle and there is nothing any of us can do to stop them, but you know what we can do, we can there for them” Jay explains “For Patrick’s memory. He’d want you to be in there today, to be there for Kayla and Molly. They need you today more than ever. Do you think you can do it…for Patrick?” Jay asks gently as Kyle wipes the tears from his eyes. Standing up, Kyle surprises Jay with a hug as he thanks her
“Things weren’t always perfect in our house. I remember always having to remind Patrick to put the toilet seat down, such trivial things. I love him; he was the love of my life. My man, my Patrick. He meant everything to me, always there for me. He always had his hand at my back in case I fell. And now I don’t feel that hand anymore” Kayla sniffs and pauses for a moment “Well, not in a physical form anyway. I feel it stronger now. I know he’s gone, I get that, but to me he’s all around. I can feel him, I can see him. I see him when I look at Molly, doing her English homework. I see him when I look at David, his boss, we all know that Patrick was the real boss” Kayla looks over at David, who nods while Eileen hands him a tissue to wipe the tears that had formed in his eyes. “I see him when I look at his family, he has his mother’s eyes” Kayla smiles softly at Paulina “And Nathan, you looked up to him your whole life and his loyalty will live on with you” Kayla looks at the doors of the church and smiles as Jay returns with Kyle “And I see him most of all when I look at our foster son Kyle. You remind me a lot of him my darling, you have the same stubborn nature” She laughs as she thinks about their similarities “Patrick will always be here while I have you” Kayla cries as Kyle approaches her. Kyle pulls her into a hug. They both kiss their hands before placing them on the coffin fondly. *
Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel and Lindsay are laying out the food ahead of the funeral goer’s return. Behind the bar, Tate is checking all the bottles when he is joined by barmaid Chloe Charles. “Hiya, I’m Tate” Chloe shakes Tate’s hand and introduces herself. “Sorry you two, I probably should have done that” apologises Daniel as he notices their interaction. “So you’re Anthony’s fella then?” Chloe asks. Tate nods. “Well look after him okay…or else” teases Chloe. “Or else what?” asks Tate intrigued. “Or else I’ll make sure you clean the bogs every night you’re on with me” laughs Chloe. Meanwhile, making their way back to the pub from the funeral, Sophia is talking incessantly to her daughter Mia, who remains silent. “We need to talk Mum” Mia suddenly states as she pulls Sophia to the corner of the bar. “Not now Mia, people will talk” pushes Sophia as she frees herself from Mia’s grip. “Dad thinks you’re trying for a baby, he’s all excited and there you are taking the pill in the pub toilet like a cheap slapper” storms Mia as Sophia suddenly erupts “Don’t you dare speak to me like that Mia” shouts Sophia causing Daniel and Lindsay to both look around. “You don’t know anything about what your Dad and I are planning” Sophia whispers as she smiles to the crowd throwing her eyes to heaven. “So can I tell him then, about you being on the pill?” Mia questions. Sophia remains silent. Struggling with her emotion, Sophia takes her daughter’s hand “Please don’t Mia, I’m begging you. Say nothing, I’ll sort it all out, I’ll talk to your Dad” promises Sophia.

“Where have you been?” demands Heather Connor as she greets her estranged husband Michael in the corridor of Canvey Comprehensive. “I was at the funeral Heather” Michael replies causing Heather to bow her head. Heather asks Michael how the funeral went and how Kayla was coping. “They did Patrick proud” reveals Michael. “What’s all this about?” Michael asks. Heather explains that their daughter Vicki was caught doing cocaine in the school toilets. “What?” Michael gasps. The estranged couple are soon called into Head teacher Charlotte Pope’s office where a worried and unusually timid Vicki is waiting. Heather throws Vicki a look of disgust and disappointment as she sits down. “As I explained earlier, Vicki was found snorting cocaine in the toilet earlier today by Ms Hart” Charlotte states. “Don’t sugar coat it” smarts Heather. “This isn’t something you can sugar coat Mrs Connor, this is a very serious issue. But unfortunately this isn’t the main issue that I am worried about. What we should be thinking about is why Vicki is taking drugs, I think you as a family should sit down and have a frank discussion about why Vicki feels the need for drugs” explains Charlotte “And you can do that while Vicki is suspended.” Both Heather and Michael begin to argue that Vicki needs to be in school, but Charlotte explains the no tolerance drugs policy and determines that her decision is final.

The Crown and Horseshoe plays host to Patrick’s wake as Kayla, the Hales and the Campbells arrive “Thank you Daniel, thank you Lindsay. The places looks wonderful, Patrick would have approved” Kayla faintly smiles as she greets Daniel and Lindsay. “We’re both very sorry for your loss. And Kayla, don’t worry about today. It’s on us, for Patrick” explains Daniel kindly, fondly thinking of his friend. “Now, what is everyone drinking, on the house” announces Lindsay. Kayla smiles as she looks around at all Patrick’s family and friends, Molly and Kyle stood by her side. Across the room, Steven hands his wife Sophia a gin and tonic. “I’ll keep your secret” whispers Mia as Sophia mouths the words thank you. “Everything okay?” asks Steven. “Yeah, but where’s my drink Dad?” jokes Mia. Steven sighs as he heads back towards the bar. Meanwhile, Matthew is at the bar ordering his drinks from Tate. “What’ll it be handsome?” asks Tate with a flirtatious tone in his voice. Olivia laughs and tells Tate that Matthew is taken. “It’s okay, he’s a bit old for me” Tate laughs as he goes to get the Fitzgerald’s drinks. “I’ll be glad to get on that plane, in less than 48 hours we’ll be sunning ourselves on the beaches of Gran Canarias.” Matthew smiles, however Olivia snaps “Matthew will you just stop going on about this damn honeymoon. My sister has just been sectioned, it’s bad enough that I didn’t even postpone the wedding, but swanning off on holiday when I haven’t even been to see her isn’t exactly a caring sister” Matthew frowns and berates Olivia for putting Naomi first after everything she has put them through. “She’s still my sister” Olivia points out. Making their way into the pub for Patrick’s wake, Heather and Michael are talking about how to deal with Vicki’s punishment. “We need to do something Michael, I’ve seen too much of the damage that drugs can do” confesses a worried Heather. “Don’t you think I know that” barks Michael as the couple are joined by Imogen. Heather is furious as Imogen plants a kiss on Michael’s lips. “Oh sorry Heather, I didn’t see you there” smirks Imogen “So, you ready for round two?”

At the Connor house, Vicki takes out a small packet of cocaine and pours it out onto the kitchen table defiantly. As she slices it with her bank card, she smiles and laughs to herself “Dinner is served” She stands up and turns on the radio, pumping up the volume. Dancing towards the table, Vicki rolls up a note she takes from her purse. Leaning down, she snorts line followed by a second. Rubbing her nose, Vicki then sweeps the last of the cocaine up on her finger and rubs it into her gums. Continuing to dance around, Vicki fails to notice that she’s left the remainder of the bag on the table. Grabbing her handbag from the hallway, Vicki walks out the house in search of a night out. At the same time, Vicki’s younger brother Jake lets himself and his friend Emily Spencer in through the back door. “Do you want something to eat?” asks Jake as Emily sits at the table. “Are you a little old for sherbet?” jokes Emily as she picks up the plastic bag. “Ah nice one” smiles Jake as he grabs the bag of cocaine and downs what’s left in the bag. “That’s gross. Doesn’t taste like sherbet” Jake moans as he walks towards the fridge to make sandwiches. Emily unpacks her school bag and begins to talk about their Geography project; however Jake suddenly collapses to the floor and starts to fit. Emily screams in horror at the sight of her friend

2x30: 'She's lost, you can see it in her eyes' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty It was the early hours of the morning on Canvey Island as Heather Connor sat chewing her nails shakily on a cold plastic chair in a quiet corridor of Canvey Island General Hospital, her estranged husband Michael sat opposite, staring into space as they waited for news of their young son Jake, who had ingested cocaine the previous night. The Connor’s eldest son Josh sat with his head in his hands, while daughter Vicki was nowhere to be found. Heather, Michael and Josh stood up frantically the moment the doctor appeared “Please tell me my son is okay” Heather begged. Josh put his arm around his mother as they listened to Dr Timson. “Jake is still unconscious, he is very lucky that he only ingested a small amount of cocaine, another few grams and he would have died” Dr Timson explained frankly. “I will be referring this incident to the police.” He revealed. “I am the police” Michael snapped. “Then you know how serious this situation is” Michael angrily moved forwards “Of course I bloody know, my son is lying in a hospital bed and you’re lecturing me on the severity of the situation” Josh pulled his father away from the doctor and took him to the other side of the corridor to calm him down. “I need to see my son” Heather said pleadingly, she noticed the hesitant look on the doctor’s face “We’re a respectable family, this was a terrible accident” Heather sniffed. Dr Timson nodded and guided Heather towards Jake’s bed. Heather rushed towards her son and kissed him on the forehead “You’re going to be okay my boy, mummy’s here” Heather began to cry as she leaned over Jake.

Canvey Crescent looked a picture as sunlight broke over Canvey Island; Steven Faraday snapped at his teenage daughter Mia as she dropped the cup of tea she had made, Mia looked upset as rushed past her grandfather Duncan. “I’m not blind Steven, something is going on with you and you’re taking it out on all of us” Duncan frowned, but soon softened his expression “You can talk to me son, you know that” Steven was about to speak when his wife Sophia walked into the kitchen carrying the washing. “I’ve got to get to work” Steven muttered, kissed Sophia on the cheek and left the house briskly. Outside the Faradays house, Mia stood against the car waiting for Steven. She watched as a cab pulled up and a dishevelled Vicki stumbled out, Mia rushed towards her and asked her for news about Jake. “What’s happened to Jake?” Vicki asked in horror. “They took him away in an ambulance last night, I did call you last night, I thought you’d be at the hospital” Mia explained. “I lost my phone” Vicki answered “I need to get to the hospital” She muttered rushing towards the Connor house.

Molly Campbell stood in the Macey kitchen staring at the urn which was placed in the middle of the kitchen table, her twin brother Kyle joined her and they both silently stared at Patrick Hale’s ashes. “I hate that this is all that’s left” Molly admitted. Kyle put his arm around his sister “It freaks me out” He commented, but soon quietened as their foster mother Kayla Macey entered the kitchen. She sadly stroked the lid of the urn and spoke “I was thinking of scattering Patrick’s ashes this afternoon at the beach as the sun sets. That’s how Patrick proposed to me” Kayla reminisced fondly. “Was it romantic?” Molly asked. Kayla smiled and nodded “We were just walking along the beach, taking photographs of the sunset and when I turned around there he was, down on one knee” Kayla felt a lump in her throat as she remembered the proposal “Patrick wanted to get married, but I wanted to wait. I don’t even remember why now” Kayla said sadly. Kyle affectionately squeezed Kayla’s arm “It’s only a piece of paper Kayla, you were Patrick’s wife in every way it counts” Kayla thanked Kyle and encouraged the twins to get to school.

Naomi Donovan sat staring out of the window; even though the sun was shining she could feel the cold draft through a crack in the window. She looked up as a nurse entered her room “Your husband’s here to see you, would you like to see him this time?” She asked. Naomi shook her head and then turned back towards the window, staring out into the garden.
*
Outside the Crown and Horseshoe, barman Tate Yorke was stood at the top of the ladder cleaning the windows when he noticed his boyfriend Anthony Spencer walking towards the pub. “How’s Jake?” Tate asked as he climbed down the ladder. “He’s going to be okay” Anthony answered. “Vicki has a lot to answer for” Tate remarked as landlady Lindsay Faraday appeared in the doorway “Tate, do you want to take your lunch now?” She asked. “Oh Anthony, how’s Jake doing?” Anthony explained to Lindsay that Jake would recover, but was still unconscious. Lindsay re-entered the pub and frowned as Imogen Sandford approached the bar “Look what the cat dragged in, ruined any more marriages lately?” Lindsay snapped. “Put your claws away Lindsay, Michael’s marriage was ruined long before I had anything to do with it” Imogen replied. Landlord Daniel Hastings appeared from the cellar and coldly asked Imogen what she would like to drink. “You’re mad at me” Imogen sighed as Lindsay disapprovingly left them alone. “You’re a single woman Imogen, you can sleep with whoever you like” Daniel noted. “Thanks for the permission” Imogen responded. Daniel poured Imogen a coke and placed it on the bar. “Michael and I just have this…connection” Imogen tried to explain. Daniel scoffed “Sleeping with Michael was your way of twisting the knife in Heather’s back, it was a low blow Imogen and to be frank, I’ve had a lucky escape. Michael’s welcome to you.” Daniel walked away leaving Imogen stood alone at the bar.
*
Naomi was sat in a warm hospital room with her psychiatrist Amina Chowdry, she had struggled with her first few sessions, but slowly Naomi was beginning to feel able to open up about living in fear from the Donovan stalker for so long. “I feel like I’m being watched all the time” Naomi confided. “I’m going to ask you a question Naomi and you’re not going to like it” Amina warned “Do you think it’s possible that you could have been stalking yourself?” Naomi sat back in her chair and exhaled deeply. “I don’t know” She admitted “I feel like I don’t know what’s real and what isn’t anymore” Naomi looked down at her hands, she twiddled her wedding ring around her finger “Cole thinks it was me” Naomi mused “Why would I stalk myself? It’s ridiculous, I have spent the past year living in fear, why would I do that to myself?” Amina smiled softly “The mind is a complex thing. It could be possible that you feel guilty for what happened to your father” Naomi closed her eyes tightly “I don’t want to talk about him” She muttered. “That’s why we’re here Naomi; to talk about the things that are painful” Naomi shook her head “I don’t want to remember” Naomi stood up and paced around the room “I’d do it again” Naomi stuttered. “He would have hurt Olivia; he would have done those things to her just like he did to me. I couldn’t let that happen. I don’t feel guilty.” Amina turned to face Naomi who was still standing “But you feel guilty about Cole taking the blame” Naomi nodded tearfully “I should have told the truth, I was so scared, I let Cole confess” Naomi conceded. “Do you think I’ve been stalking myself?” Naomi asked Amina, but she didn’t answer “Could it have been me?” Naomi questioned
Heather sat clinging onto Jake’s hand as Michael and Josh both sat at the other side of the bed, Vicki rushed in and desperately tried to find out what had happened to her younger brother. Heather and Josh guided Vicki outside the ward, without a word Heather angrily slapped Vicki around the face “Mum” Josh gasped, pulling her away. “You did this! Your dirty little drugs habit almost killed your brother” Heather shouted emotionally, she dragged Vicki to the window and forced her to look at Jake “Look at what you’ve done” Heather cried. Vicki pulled herself away tearfully “I…” She didn’t know what to say. She stared at Heather for a moment before running down the corridor. Josh followed her as Heather emotionally leant against the wall, trying to calm herself down. As evening began to set in on Canvey Island, Chrissie and Harry Campbell joined Kayla and the twins at the beach. They stood quietly looking out to sea, Kayla, holding Patrick’s urn close to her heart began to speak “It’s not goodbye Patrick” Kayla sighed “You know I believe this life isn’t the end, one day we’ll be together again I promise my darling” Molly let a tear escape as Kayla spoke, while Chrissie held onto Harry’s hand. Kyle walked forwards and stood next to Kayla as she opened the lid of the urn, Kayla closed her eyes as she scattered the ashes out into the wind. She turned around and smiled at Kyle “Patrick would have been very proud of you Kyle, you have been so strong for me and Molly over the last few weeks” Kayla held Kyle’s face in her hands, she turned towards Chrissie “Thank you Chrissie, you don’t even know me, but you have supported me through this horrible time and I can’t tell you how much that means to me” Chrissie smiled “You’ve supported my children and now it’s my turn to return the favour.” Kayla looked back out to sea “Patrick loved you two very much” She said to Kyle and Molly “He’ll always be in our hearts.” Kayla said tearfully smiling at her memories.

Steven and Duncan sat at a table in Faradays restaurant as waitress Siobhan Spencer placed their plates down in front of them “Enjoy your meal” Siobhan smiled as she walked away. “So are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” Duncan pressed straightaway. “Just leave it alone Dad” Steven warned, eating his pasta. “Are you having problems with Sophia? I know you’ve been arguing about having another baby” Steven sighed “We’re fine Dad” Duncan frowned “Whatever it is Steven, you can tell me” Steven sat staring at Duncan for a moment “I had an affair Dad” Steven blurted out, cautiously looking around behind him. “Oh Steven” Duncan said in disappointment. “Who was she?” He questioned. Steven rubbed his forehead “Michelle Fox” He admitted. Duncan exhaled deeply, but didn’t say a word. He thought back to the argument he overheard between his new partner Eileen Fields and her son David. “Oh God Steven, please don’t tell me that Michelle’s baby is yours!”

Chrissie kissed her wife Jay Willis on the lips as she got into the car “Thanks love for the lift” Chrissie smiled. Jay asked how the scattering of Patrick’s ashes went “It was a lovely spot on the beach” Chrissie mused. “Canvey Island is absolutely beautiful” Chrissie looked out of the window as they drove past the Crown and Horseshoe. “Jay, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, how would you feel if we brought a house?” Jay looked towards Chrissie “We already have a house” Chrissie bit her lip nervously “I mean, how would you feel if we brought a house here on Canvey Island?”

Josh tiredly walked through the door of the Spencer house, Katherine Lavery rushed towards him, a dish cloth hanging from her shoulder “Oh Josh, I’ve been worried about you all” Katherine helped an exhausted looking Josh take off his coat “They managed to stop the seizures for now” Josh explained. He sat down on the dining room chair as Katherine made him a cup of tea “Vicki blames herself and there’s nothing I can say to her, it was her drugs” Josh said. “You know I’m not a fan of your sister after the way she’s treated Anthony, but she has been through a lot lately. Finding out about Robert being her father must have really caused some damage, she’s lost, you can see it in her eyes” Katherine described. “I just want my sister back Katherine” Josh said emotionally. Katherine put her arm around Josh supportively and hugged him.
