• New or just curious? Here's a handy guide to who lives and works across the fictional Leicester suburbs of Linford and Newben...
• A complex family with complex histories. Welsh matriarch Lisa (Anna Acton) has a bioligical child, Rhys Prosser, but he lives with his dad and stepmum back in Cardiff and she has no contact. Following a tough childhood, Lisa suffers intermittently with depression. Her beloved husband is solicitor Glen Wright (Samuel Anderson), and the feeling is very much mutual. Shortly after Lisa relocated from Cardiff to Leicester, she and Glen fell deeply in love, later married, and have been together ever since. Whilst both are warm, sympathetic souls, Glen is the more disciplined and serious of the two. Due to various traumas however, Lisa has never felt able to have children with him but he has accepted this, on the promise that she intends for it to happen 'one day'. However, having hit 40, the biological clock is now ticking.
As a compromise, they agreed to adopt. They decided to adopt a teenager when social services told them a teen age child is the least likely age group to be adopted. The end result was Liam Hardacre (Kavell Limba-Lelo), a sporty ladies man with a cheeky humour. The adoption was so successful that a year later they took in another, slightly younger, teenage girl, Danielle Parfitt (Eleanor Worthington-Cox). Danielle could hardly be more different to Liam - sensitive, moody and insecure - but they are very close to each other. Although the whole family enjoys a strong bond, Liam is slightly closer to Lisa and Danielle to Glen...
• Sprawling working class unit spread across the Midlands. Trish Hobson (Sue Johnston) is the mother-in-law of landlord dad Phil (David Crellin) and mother of landlady mum Maxine (Denise Welch) the latter two of whom run local pub The Moonshine Inn, and originally hail from northern England - he from Yorkshire, she from Newcastle - moving down to Leicester many years ago. Maxine is haughty and self-righteous, and also a committed Christian. Phil on the other hand prefers the betting shop and a deadpan sense of humour. Trish lives alone in her house but makes regular apperances.
Phil and Maxine have three children. Their eldest, warm but feisty Steph Bayliss, lives in nearby Coventry with her own family. Middle child Noah is a sensitive dad of two who settled down young. He lives in Nottingham with his wife Scarlett and their two children. Finally Izzy, the youngest, is away at university...
• Headed by health trust executive Graham (Martyn Spendlove), and his plain-spoken detective sergeant wife Helen (Susan Cookson). They rarely clash but have somewhat different approaches. They have four children, two of whom - Matt and Imogen - live away from home. On the scene is their dizzy and dysfunctional elder daughter Keeley (Alice Barlow) - a former midwife - who herself has an 11yo daughter, inquisitive but precocious Saffron (Leah Wrigglesworth). Also in the mix is Keeley's younger brother - strident, sporty and occasionally over-confident teenager Reuben (Connor Marsden)...
• A housing multiple occupancy (HMO) owned by landlord Rob Warren (unpictured, see Warrens below). There lives sensible but insecure nurse Rosy Lyons (Emma Rigby), quick-witted triage receptionist Chandra Patel (Bhavnisha Parmar) ,and feisty but fun Zara Hardacre (Sara Monica), the elder sister of Liam Hardacre (unpictured, see Wrights above)...
• With wife and mother Alison having walked out on Christmas Day last, former hospital CEO dad Martin (Victor Gardener) is now single and living with eldest son Steve (Dean Fagan), the outgoing but mature owner and manager of local bistro Indigo. Alongside them is Steve's down-to-earth but occasionally moody teenage daughter Bailie (Parrine Long)...
• A wealthy unit, consisting of landlord and wine merchant Rob Warren (Stephen Harakis), usually charming and well-meaning but with an arrogant side. He is married to driven, sometimes feisty wife Vanessa (Anna Passey), deputy chief executive at Leicester St. Mary's Hospital. They have non-identical twin 13yos: modest but intelligent Enzo (Niki Sargison) - the 'elder' of the two - and friendly but sensitive Elle (Elizabeth-Anne Fuller), born male but identifying as female. Although happy, Rob and Vanessa's relationship is occasionally tempestuous, hampered further by a residual spark between her old flame and one-time work colleague Steve Rogers (Dean Fagan, see 'Rogers' above). The quiet Warren, 11yo Marnie (Willow Yoeul), is shy and insecure...
• Self-employed IT consultant Jerome Wyatt (Alex Stedman) lives with hospital IT technician Hari Patel (James Floyd). A gay couple in their 30s, they live with Jerome's sporty, gentle teenage son Declan Warren (Jonnie Zechmeister). Declan is a product of artificial insemination by his mother, Nikki Jenkins, who is off the scene. Whilst Hari is quite easygoing, Jerome is well-meaning but more uptight, which is occasionally a source of friction. The couple are currently going through the adoption process, though there is a sense that Jerome - who instigated the idea - is keener than Hari is. Meanwhile Declan has a frienemyship with fellow teen Reuben Archer (Connor Marsden, see 'Archers' above), though the animosity is mostly from Reuben...
• A vibrant unit of Indian origin, though the children were all born in England. Macho, dashing and overprotective surgeon Shabaz 'Baz' Patel (Riaz Syed, unpictured) is currently in India caring for his unwell elderly mother. Their eldest children - an unnamed daughter and son Jamal - are currently off the scene. So for now, the family consists of dilligent, civic-minded headteacher Pam (Patsy Prince), middle daughter Chandra (Bhavnisha Parmar) - who lives in an HMO (see 'Girlshare' above) - and spirited, idealistic 11yo youngest daughter Latika 'Tika' Patel (Ella Madia)...
• Liz Doyle (Lysette Anthony) is a warmhearted but nosy proprietor of her eponymous local café, Doyle's. She lives there with her son, hapless but witty chef Ryan 'Woody' Doyle (Thomas Casson), universally known as Woody... • Anita Jackson (Ruth Wilson) is a former barmaid at The Moonshine Inn, but moved to Birmingham around a decade ago when her first marriage fell apart. However, she has recently sreturned in dramatic fashion with her young son in tow, Isaac, AKA Zac (Bobby Thompson)...
• The Hornbys consist of rugged grump Jack (Joseph Whelan) - who owns and runs a local garage - and his wife, moody but switched-on English teacher Rachel (Alice Connor), who is heavily pregnant with their first child... • Caitlin Cookson (Ruby Wilson) is a sweet but shy waitress at Doyle's who takes a shine to Liam Hardacre (Kavell Limba-Lelo, see 'Wright' above)...

DAXHow exciting to get the first glimpses of the new These Days, Chloe! The cast looks strong, I like that it's familiar but you've also made changes - making Woody the son of Liz is a good choice as Liz works best when she's in a parent role, even if they aren't biological (Jade Hudson springs to mind, and I think she took another younger character under her wing during that run too). I'm surprised you've brought Hari back, as he was disposed of pretty quickly in 2.0, and it always felt like he was a bit of a weak character, so I'm looking forward to seeing what plans you have for him - and if he makes it further this time.
The strengthened Donnellys look great, interested in whether Steph will be bringing her family with her, and possibly the biggest surprise in this run is nuNoah! I like the new actor for him, though him not being gay (as far as we know!) and having two kids was a shock. I wonder if we will be seeing a coming out storyline for Noah, or if he is straight this time around. Is there a reason we don't yet know Noah's wife's name? Will she be putting in an appearance? There's a lot of children, but I have faith that they'll all be vastly different from each other. And Anita now has a son... interesting! Can't wait to see what you have planned! CHLOEHey, thanks Dax! Love all the speculation Let's just say there's a lot the original post doesn't tell you! In the past I think the WWW has been too spoilery so this time I wanted it to be quite sparse with the info. Enough to give you a basic understanding of the characters, but also raising more questions than answers! I have big plans for Woody but felt he would feel more integrated with a parent, and as Liz was also a bit of a loner character, she seemed the natural choice I also think with their contrasting personalities would work well too.
Hari is part of a couple of stories which will ultimately change the course of the Wyatt family, so he definitely has more purpose this time! I won't say too much about Steph, but I felt she had to be in it early as she is such an integral character to the show, and she would work well supporting her original family with their many problems Noah will certainly be very different in some ways this time. Some of what you said is on the right track with him, some isn't... I don't really think there's a lot of children for a typical soap cast. Corrie and Emmerdale for example are absolutely heaving with them! But unlike most soaps I do think the younger cast are important as ultimately they are the future of the show. Obviously they won't be front and centre but yeah, some consideration has gone into the kind of characters they will be at least. I think TDS has always naturally skewed younger; I think it is ostensibly a soap about growing up. As time goes on though it may well be more evenly spread among the different age groups. I would like to extend the older cast eventually.
Many thanks for your thoughts Dax, I enjoyed reading them MEMBERTextAUTHORText

Really exciting castings here, Chloe! These Days has always had a place in my heart, as one of my favourite projects to read, and some of your castings are a coup for the project! Colour me excited for the relaunch - and to see these faces once again: old and new!

Colour me excited for the relaunch - and to see these faces once again: old and new! Thanks, Jamie! Further development has been necessary however. This unfortunately has taken much longer than I anticipated, and I've been unwell recently which hasn't helped either! I'm hoping to get new episodes out in the next couple of weeks, touch wood!
