2x01: 'Straight out of the what not to do parent handbook' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty One
Noah Donovan clung onto his girlfriend Megan Hastings’ hand as he stared up to the departures board, the young couple had escaped Canvey Island just an hour and a half before. Noah had panicked when he heard the news that Tommy and Adam Thompson had been arrested for their involvement in the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe six months previously. Noah was sure it would only be a matter of time before his role was revealed to the residents of Canvey Island. Noah had struggled to live with his guilt since the siege, especially as his own sister Ava was among those injured. Noah looked at Megan who was scanning the list of flights, after a few minutes Megan excitedly tugged at Noah’s arm “I think I’ve found the perfect place” Megan pulled Noah into a kiss “I love you Noah” Noah smiled back and held Megan close to him “I love you too” Megan pulled away and looked back at the departures board “What do you think about Gretna Green?” Megan asked, hoping Noah would understand what she meant. Noah frowned “I thought you would want to go somewhere a bit more exotic” Megan rolled her eyes “Did you not watch Coronation Street last year? Sophie and Sian wanted to run away to Gretna Green because they wanted to get married” Noah stared at Megan’s bright eyes, it dawned on him what Megan was suggesting “Megan Hastings, are you asking me to marry you?” Megan giggled and kissed Noah on the lips. She nodded “Will you?” Noah pulled Megan close to him and whispered “Yes” Megan squealed excitedly and jumped into Noah’s arms “Let’s go and get married!” She beamed.
*
There was a cool breeze on Canvey Island as Josh Connor and Siobhan Spencer walked hand in hand along Canvey Crescent. Siobhan excitedly talked about how she had arranged to cook dinner for Josh’s parents Heather and Michael at the weekend. Josh kissed Siobhan on the cheek “I told you they would come round” Josh smiled. Siobhan sighed happily “For the first time in a very long time, I feel like things are going right for once” Josh and Siobhan continued walking, talking about the siege and how despite it being the worst time of their lives, it also brought them together. As Josh and Siobhan approached the Spencer house, Siobhan got a chill up her spine “Are you ok?” Josh asked concerned by Siobhan’s sudden change. Siobhan shrugged “I don’t know, something just doesn’t feel right” Siobhan opened the front door and called out for her stepson Anthony, there was no answer. Josh hugged Siobhan from behind and kissed Siobhan around the back of her neck “What time do you have to pick Emily up?” Josh asked, Siobhan breathed out deeply “Not til the morning” She turned around so that she was facing Josh “I know what you’re thinking Josh Connor” She laughed “You have such a one track mind” Josh pulled Siobhan towards the stairs “You wouldn’t have me any other way” He teased. As Siobhan and Josh reached the top of the stairs, Siobhan looked towards Anthony’s bedroom door. She hesitated “I should see if he’s ok, he was supposed to meet us at the pub” Josh nodded “Don’t keep me waiting” Siobhan smiled as she knocked on Anthony’s door. She hesitated as she waited for an answer; taking a deep breath Siobhan opened the door. Siobhan saw the letters lying on the bed before she saw Anthony, everything felt in slow motion as Siobhan screamed as loud as she could for help.
*
Kayla Macey yawned as she reached the telephone; she answered and listened intently to the person on the other end. As she put the phone down, Kayla stood with her hand over her heart and tried to steady her breathing. Kayla’s partner Patrick Hale walked past the living room and noticed Kayla stood as still as a statue. “Baby, are you ok?” Patrick asked trying to get Kayla’s attention. Kayla burst into tears and laughed, confusing Patrick even more “It was the social worker, they’ve asked us to be emergency foster carers for two teenagers” Kayla spoke so quickly that Patrick struggled to understand half the words. Kayla paused “We’re going to be parents Patrick” Kayla laughed excitedly.
*
Sophia Faraday was woken up by the sound of the sirens; she opened her eyes as her bedroom was flooded by blue light. She walked briskly over to the bedroom window and she gasped as the ambulance stopped outside the Spencer house. She woke Steven up and the couple rushed down the stairs and out onto the crescent. Sophia watched as Heather and Michael rushed towards their son Josh who was following Siobhan out the house. Steven rushed towards them and asked what had happened, before anyone could answer, Anthony was brought out the house by the paramedics. Heather pulled Josh back “What happened?” Josh was barely able to speak, he stared at his parents with tears in his eyes “Anthony tried to hang himself”
*
As the sun rose on Canvey Island, Daniel Hastings walked into the bar of the Crown and Horseshoe, he cursed as he saw the state of the pub after last night’s party. He should have known it was a bad idea to leave the clean-up for the morning. Daniel sighed as he heard a tapping at the front door of the pub, he opened it to find his estranged wife on the doorstep, Lindsay’s eyes were red from tears. Lindsay pulled Daniel into a hug “Anthony Spencer tried to kill himself” Lindsay whispered “Poor Siobhan” Lindsay cried. Daniel led Lindsay to a chair and tried to comfort her “I need to see Megan, I need to tell her how much I love her” Daniel followed Lindsay upstairs, but they were both taken aback to find Megan’s bedroom empty, their eyes straightaway darted towards the white envelope resting on the bed. Lindsay ripped open the envelope and gasped, she held it towards Daniel “She’s gone.”
BREAK Josh held out a cup of coffee to Siobhan, she was sat on a cold plastic chair with her head resting on her hands. Siobhan shook her head and Josh just sat down next to her, holding the cups. He didn’t know what to say, he just placed the cups on the floor next to him and put his arm around Siobhan. At first she resisted, but soon enough she rested her head on his shoulder and began to cry.
*
Megan and Noah stopped outside a bridal shop and stared at the magnificent white wedding dress in the window, Noah noticed Megan staring at the price sadly, he pulled her close and whispered “One day I will buy you a real wedding dress” Megan smiled and kissed Noah on the lips. She looked at the bag in her hand “This is as real as it gets”
*
Lindsay tried to stop Daniel as he violently hammered on the front door of the Donovan’s house; finally Cole Donovan opened up and demanded an explanation from Daniel. In a temper, Daniel pulled Cole out of the house and pushed him up against the car. Lindsay pleaded with her husband to calm down while Cole’s wife Naomi rushed out as she heard the noise. “Where is my daughter?” Daniel demanded. Cole pushed Daniel away from him and looked at Naomi in confusion. Lindsay realised that Cole and Naomi had no idea what they were talking about “This is priceless, straight out of the what not to do parent handbook” Lindsay scoffed “Not even realising your son is missing” Naomi shook her head in disbelief and faced up to Lindsay “How dare you come to my house and speak to me like this! My son adores your daughter, Megan is safe with Noah. I know my son, they will come home”
*
Kayla stood at the window looking out on Collison Avenue at all the cars that passed through the street, Patrick laughed at his fiancée’s excitement as they waited for the social worker to arrive with their first foster children. The social worker had described sixteen year old twins Kyle and Molly Campbell as quiet children in need of care while their mother Chrissie came to terms with her alcohol addiction. Unknown to Kayla, Patrick was feeling more apprehensive than excited; he was unsure whether he could handle becoming a parent to teenagers. He had expected their first foster child to be a toddler or even a young child; teenagers would definitely be a challenge. Patrick smiled as Kayla squealed in excitement “They’re here” Kayla darted towards the front door and rushed towards the social worker. Kyle and Molly looked unhappy as they got out of the car and looked up at the house, Kayla introduced herself and Patrick. Kayla pulled Molly into a hug, who looked uncomfortable, she then moved towards Kyle who quickly moved to avoid Kayla’s embrace. “I’m hungry” Kyle blurted out. Kayla laughed “Boys will be boys” She joked “I’ve made my speciality, beef lasagne with cheesy garlic bread” Kyle sniggered “I’m a vegetarian” Kayla smiled, trying not to look undeterred “Well, that’s ok Kyle, I’m sure I can sort something out” Molly elbowed Kyle in the ribs “He’s joking” She muttered. Kayla laughed even more loudly than usual causing Patrick to quickly change the subject and invite the twins to see their bedrooms.
*
Steven tried to show Sophia the brochure for the converted barn he had in mind for their vow renewal, but Sophia was very distracted. Eventually Steven realised that Sophia wasn’t listening to a word he was saying “Baby, what’s wrong?” He asked, feeling concerned that Sophia was not as excited as he was. Sophia sighed “I can’t stop thinking about Anthony” She admitted “I keep thinking of Mia, she is devastated and I keep imaging how Siobhan must feel” Steven reached out and put his hand on Sophia’s shoulder “We are so lucky that Mia feels able to talk to us, I can’t imagine what is going through Siobhan’s head right now, but we have to focus on supporting our daughter” Sophia sniffed and kissed Steven lovingly “I never want Mia to feel alone” Steven smiled “She won’t” He promised.
*
Noah looked over at the three witnesses that he and Megan had chosen outside the Gretna Hall Blacksmiths. He smiled positively and then he saw Megan arrive. She looked stunning in her white summer dress and her curled blonde hair. She carried pink camellias as she walked down the aisle. Megan took a deep breath as she reached the alter and smiled at the registrar. “Is there anything more beautiful than a young couple joining hands and pure hearts in Holy Matrimony? We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Noah Simon Donovan and Megan Teresa Hastings” The registrar spoke positively and lovingly. As Noah began his vows, he took hold of Megan’s hand “Megan, I believed what people said when they told me that I wasn’t good enough for you, but I realised, the only opinion that matters to me is yours and when I look in your eyes, I see love and you make me feel worthy of that love every single day. I love you Megan and I will spend every day for the rest of my life making sure that I am good enough to be your husband. Megan Teresa Hastings, I promise to love you, honour you and be faithful to you for the rest of my life, in sickness and in health, for richer and for poorer” Megan let a tear fall from her eyes as she got ready to say her vows, she took a deep breath “Noah, I have loved from the moment that I met you and that light in your eyes when you look at me will never get old. I don’t regret the decisions that we have made that have brought us here, because I know our love is more powerful than anything in this world and I truly believe it will last forever. Noah Simon Donovan, I promise to love you, honour you and be faithful to you for the rest of my life, in sickness and in health, for richer and for poorer” The registrar smiled at the young couple “Noah and Megan, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss” Noah and Megan giggled and kissed passionately.
*
Naomi and Cole sat at the dining room table; they had spent the whole afternoon calling everyone they could think of to see if they had heard from Noah. It wasn’t a surprise that there wasn’t a trace to be found. “I think we should call the police” Naomi spoke, breaking the silence. Cole shook his head “No, Noah’s gone off before and he’s always come back” Naomi stood up in frustration “This is different this time Cole, he’s taken Megan with him this time” Cole stood up and walked into the kitchen, Naomi followed him. “We’re not getting the police involved” Cole maintained. Naomi walked out without another word; she noticed an envelope sticking out from the letter box. Naomi rushed towards the door and ripped it open. She stared at the photograph of Noah talking to Tommy and Adam Thompson, Naomi’s face screwed up as she struggled to comprehend the image of her son talking to the men responsible for the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe.

JOEWelcome back High Hopes! This was a fantastic follow up episode to the brilliant season 1 finale. The actions of the season one finale were felt all the way through this episode and what was great was each characters reactions to the actions. Like Anthony's suicide attempt was felt by everyone and then impacted on the Noah and Megan wedding plot, and wow, our first High Hopes wedding. Loved it. I'm liking all the interactions with the characters and there was a huge community feel to this episode which you really excel at. Well done! And the siege drama still lives on....but I know now it is really going to kick up a gear! Love it! Plus, brilliant way to introduce the new family through Kayla and Patrick. Well done!! HANNAH Thank you for your kind feedback Joe:) I'm so happy about your view on the community aspect as that is one of the areas that I have been concentrating on improving so I'm glad that's coming across

2x02: 'We'll still have our crazy nights out and gossip sessions' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty Two
Chloe Charles was not usually awake at this time in the morning, but there she was, tapping away at her laptop on the sofa. She smiled as she received another message from Mark; she inhaled deeply as she felt butterflies in her stomach. Chloe and Mark had spent the last three days constantly messaging each other, slowly learning more and more about each other. So far, Chloe liked what she saw. Chloe quickly slammed her laptop down as her housemate Olivia Kane flew into the living room looking for her dress that Chloe had borrowed. “I can’t believe you’re really moving out” Chloe muttered sadly. Olivia stood holding her dress and then walked towards the sofa, she sat down next to Chloe “This won’t change anything Chlo, we’ll still have our crazy nights out and gossip sessions” Chloe shrugged “I’m just gonna miss you, that’s all” Olivia laughed and hugged Chloe “I’ll miss you too.”
*
At a small bed and breakfast just outside of Gretna Green, the newlyweds Noah and Megan Donovan woke up happily. Noah stared at his new wife lovingly and kissed her softly on the forehead, Megan giggled as she looked at the wedding ring on her left hand “I can’t believe we’re married” Megan enthused “Looks like you’re stuck with me Mr Donovan” Noah laughed and kissed Megan on the lips “I wouldn’t have it any other way Mrs Donovan.”
*
Kayla Macey stood outside foster son Kyle Campbell’s bedroom with a freshly made fry up, she had ignored her partner Patrick Hale’s request that Kyle and his twin sister Molly should eat at the dining room table with them, she wanted to encourage Kyle to feel comfortable in their home without feeling overwhelmed with rules. After knocking several times, Kayla opened the bedroom door and sighed when she found Kyle’s bed still made from the day before and the bedroom window wide open. She walked back downstairs and found Molly sitting alone at the table with a cup of tea. Kayla placed Kyle’s breakfast down and stared at Molly “Where’s your brother Molly? He’s been out all night” Molly shrugged and concentrated on stirring her tea. “I know it’s been a tough few weeks for you and Kyle, I can’t imagine what it was like for you seeing your mother in that state” Molly frowned “You don’t know my mother” She snapped. Kayla sighed, she’d hit a nerve. “I don’t know your mother Molly, but she’s getting help and I really admire her strength. Patrick and I are here to look after you and Kyle while your mother recovers; I want you to know that I am here for you both if you ever need to talk” Molly nodded, but didn’t say anything else.
*
Siobhan Spencer shifted uncomfortably on the cold plastic hospital chair; she stretched and sighed as she looked over at her stepson Anthony who was fast asleep in his hospital bed. Siobhan felt a lump rise in her throat as she stared at the dark bruises around Anthony’s neck; she leant forward and lightly stroked his face motherly. Siobhan began singing quietly “Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue” As she sung, Anthony’s eyes began to flutter open to the sound of Siobhan’s voice. Seeing that Anthony was awake, Siobhan stood up emotionally and tried to hug Anthony, but he pushed her away. “It’s going to be ok Anthony; I promise you everything will be ok. Mummy’s here” Anthony frowned and turned the other way without uttering a word.
*
Cole and Naomi Donovan sat in their bedroom, whispering about the photograph that Naomi had received the previous night “Cole, you know what this means” Naomi snapped “The third man in the siege, it was Noah” Cole paced around the room in frustration “This doesn’t prove anything Naomi, he knew the Thompsons, so what? I refuse to believe that our son would be capable of something like that, capable of watching his sister get shot and do nothing” Naomi shook her head “You haven’t been here Cole, I’ve seen the trouble Noah has got himself in” Cole looked hurt by Naomi’s words “Thanks for pointing that out, I would have done anything to have been there for my children, you know that” Naomi walked over to Cole and held onto his arms “I didn’t mean that the way it sounded. Cole, you made the ultimate sacrifice for me and I love you for that. I’m just so sorry that our children had to suffer for it” Cole’s expression softened and he pulled Naomi close “We have to find Noah before the police do” Naomi nodded, not trusting herself to speak.
*
Inside an interview room at the Canvey Island police station, Daniel and Lindsay Hastings sat opposite Detective Sergeant Michael Connor; the couple had explained the circumstances behind their daughter Megan’s disappearance and pleaded with Michael to help them find Megan and Noah. “I’m really sorry, but Megan is eighteen years old and she has left home with Noah by choice” Michael tried to explain, but Lindsay wasn’t having any of it “My little girl is out there somewhere with that waste of space and you’re telling me there’s nothing you can do” Lindsay stood up in anger “I’m sorry for wasting your time” Lindsay stormed out of the room leaving Michael feeling guilty that he couldn’t do more.
*
Walking along the beach Vicki Connor and Mia Faraday talked about Anthony’s suicide attempt, Mia was struggling to understand why Anthony couldn’t talk to her “I thought we were close, I don’t understand why he would choose to try to kill himself rather than talk to someone” Mia felt a lump in her throat. Vicki rolled her eyes “Anthony Spencer is weak and pathetic” Vicki snapped bitchily “If I was him, I would have tried to top myself too” Mia stared at Vicki in disbelief “You really are a disgusting person” Mia shook her head and walked off briskly. “I was joking. Mia, come back” Vicki called out, but it was too late. “What a bitch” A voice from behind startled Vicki, she frowned as Kyle walked with a strut towards her “Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s insanely sexy” He smirked as Vicki pouted and looked him up and down.
*
Siobhan yawned as she walked through her front door; she was greeted by her mother Katherine Lavery questioning her about Anthony. Siobhan admitted that he hadn’t spoken a word since he woke up, Siobhan sat down on the sofa and began to cry “I feel so useless mum, how could I let him down so badly?” Katherine shook her head “Don’t you dare, you have been an amazing mother to that boy when his own mother couldn’t be bothered to stick around. Don’t ever doubt that” Siobhan smiled and thanked her mother. Katherine excused herself as Siobhan’s boyfriend Josh Connor arrived to see how Anthony was doing. Siobhan opened up to how useless she felt and how Anthony wouldn’t even speak to her. “He must have been going through hell” Siobhan stood up and began to pace around the living room “That girl made his life a misery every single day, he even left school to get away from your sister” Josh shook his head “You can’t blame Vicki for this, Anthony made this choice” Siobhan stared at Josh as he defended his younger sister “Anthony isn’t in his right mind, how dare you defend the actions of a bully. Don’t look at me like that Josh, that is exactly what your sister is, a bully. She humiliated him constantly and he tried to hang himself. This wasn’t attention seeking Josh, Anthony meant to kill himself and I will never forgive Vicki for this” “I can’t listen to you rip my sister apart like this Siobhan, Vicki is not responsible for this” Siobhan scoffed “You are so blind, Vicki is a vicious little bitch…” Josh cut her off “I’m not listening to this” Josh snapped and stormed out of the house.
*
Noah lay on the bed in the bed and breakfast staring wistfully at the ceiling, he could hear the shower running and he smiled. He could definitely spend the rest of his life like this; Noah’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a knock on the door. He jumped up and found the owner of the B&B stood at the door “It’s going to cost sixty for another night” She explained. Noah exhaled “But we only paid thirty for last night” He pointed out “A special promotion, it will be sixty a night from now on” Noah sighed “We can’t afford that” The owner shrugged “Check out by three”
*
Michael stared at the note in front of him. The third man. An envelope had been left for Michael at the front desk of Canvey Police Station containing the same photographs that Naomi had received the previous night. Michael stood up and looked at the case board for the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe pub six months previous. He pinned the photograph up next to the photographs of Tommy and Adam Thompson.
*
Patrick knocked on Kyle’s bedroom door and frowned when he heard giggling come from inside the room. Patrick walked in without any further warning and found Kyle and Vicki in bed. Patrick glared at Kyle who sat up casually smirking. Patrick picked up the clothes from the floor and threw them onto the bed “Get dressed Vicki. I think we need to go over the ground rules Kyle” He ordered, wondering what Kayla had got them into.
*
Michael stood on the doorstep of the Donovans with a uniformed police officer stood behind him, finally Cole opened the door and leaped to the conclusion that Noah and Megan had been found. “Actually Cole, I’m here to tell you that we have issued a warrant for Noah’s arrest, for armed robbery.”

JOEThe second episode in the new season of High Hopes did not disappoint. There was a quick pace to the episode and the stories left hanging from the season 1 finale seemed to kick off fresh twists and turns! It's good to see Micheal having a more central role and the whole Connor family really with Josh and Siobhan's fight being a great way for the plot to move forward. I also think that Vicki is just a huge character in the making! She's going to be mega epic when she gets going. The community aspect again was well built up in this episode. I'm really enjoying the returned High Hopes! Things can only get better!! HANNAH Thank you Joe:) The Connors have been in the background quite a lot apart from Josh, so I am hoping that readers can get to know them a bit better in this season
ROSS Wow! A fantastic start to Season 2 of High Hopes! Noah and Megan are married... they have to be the cutest soap couple of all time The wedding scenes were breath-takingly beautiful, and I am already loving the drama that the runaway lovebirds are facing so far this season! The aftermath of Anthony's suicide attempt is simply fantastic. It's affecting so many people in so many different ways, and it is incredibly interesting to see how the different people affected deal with it I can't believe that Josh's so oblivious to Vicki's wicked ways... okay, she's his sister, but surely if her parents can see how manipulative she can be, her brother can too? This is such a great plot to pull the community together Kyle and Molly are already shaping up to become some very strong characters, and I love their interactions with Kayla, Patrick and Vicki Looking forward to the rest of the Campbell clan to arrive as well as Imogen! It's clear to see that you're already giving characters such as Vicki, Michael, Patrick, Kayla, Katherine and Chloe more material in Season 2, which I'm really looking forward too! Can't wait to see where you take Chloe's internet dating story, also - I hope she's careful! HANNAH Thank you for the wonderful feedback Ross It feels good to have HH back. I am really working hard this season to integrate characters such as Michael/Heather/Vicki and Patrick/Kayla with their own stories, so they are definitely ones to watch

2x03: 'Classy as always' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty Three
Duncan Faraday smiled as he walked into his dining room to see both his children Lindsay Hastings and Steven Faraday having breakfast together “It feels like old times, the three of us back together” Steven barely looked up from his newspaper while Lindsay rolled her eyes “My marriage is in ruins and my teenage daughter is missing, not quite how I would describe it Dad” Duncan sat down in the chair next to his daughter and held onto Lindsay’s hand “I didn’t want to say anything until I had something concrete, but this may give you some hope. I’ve hired a private investigator to find Megan, we’re going to get her back love, I promise” Lindsay began to get emotional “Thank you Dad”
*
Twins Kyle and Molly Campbell sat silently at the breakfast table as their foster parents Patrick Hale and Kayla Macey broached the subject of sex and relationships. “We appreciate that you are both at that age where you are interested in the opposite sex” Kayla spoke delicately. Kyle scoffed “This is the birds and the bees talk, this is classic. You’re a few years too late for this. Although our Molly might find it interesting” Molly blushed a bright shade of red as Patrick glared at Kyle. “We have to set some ground rules” Patrick growled, Kyle rolled his eyes in amusement “We can’t stop you from seeing Vicki, but she is not to be alone with you in your bedroom. She is underage” Patrick finished and waited for a response from Kyle. Kyle just shrugged and agreed to Patrick’s demands. Kayla smiled at Molly “The same goes for you Molly, no boys in the bedroom” Molly nodded while Kyle laughed “Chance would be a fine thing ay Mol” Kyle and Molly excused themselves leaving Kayla and Patrick sat at the table “That was a bit too easy” Kayla sighed.
*
Olivia Kane woke up surrounded by boxes; she smiled as she looked around her boyfriend Matthew Fitzgerald’s bedroom, which had now become her bedroom too. She stood up and pulled on her red silk robe and soon found Matthew in the kitchen cooking breakfast. She hugged him from behind and whispered in his ear “I could definitely get used to this” She smiled. Matthew turned the heat down on the stove and faced Olivia; he pulled her into a kiss which slowly became more and more heated. However, their encounter was interrupted by the sound of the front door “Ignore it” Matthew urged. Olivia kissed Matthew, but when she heard her sister Naomi Donovan’s panicked voice, Olivia grudgingly pushed Matthew away so she could answer the door. “I really need to talk to someone” Naomi pleaded. Olivia looked at Matthew, who decided to go into work early. Olivia led Naomi into the living room and sat her down on the sofa, urging her to calm down. Naomi broke down and revealed the truth about her son Noah’s role in the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe pub. Olivia sat in shock as she struggled to comprehend her nephew’s behaviour “What am I going to do Liv? How am I supposed to tell Ava?”
*
As lunchtime hit Canvey Island, Heather Connor walked with her teenage daughter Vicki along Canvey Crescent; Heather had taken the day off work to spend time with Vicki in wake of Anthony Spencer’s suicide attempt. A lot of parents on Canvey Island had been left shaken and determined not to let their own children feel alone. Outside the Spencer house, Heather’s son Josh stood with his girlfriend Siobhan Spencer, Anthony’s step mother. Without warning, Siobhan angrily stormed over to Vicki, blaming her for Anthony’s actions “I hope you’re happy now” Siobhan spat “You bullied my boy so much that he thought dying was a better option” Heather angrily stood in front of Siobhan, blocking her from Vicki “How dare you!” Heather shook her head in disgust “Shouting at a young girl in the street. I feel for you Siobhan, I really do, but you have no right to speak to my daughter like this” Josh tried to lead Siobhan away, but she wasn’t having any of it “I cannot believe that the same person who has raised such a kind, loving man has also raised such a vile, nasty little bitch of a daughter like Vicki” Heather slapped Siobhan hard round the face, leading Siobhan to push her back. Josh tried to separate the two women, but as they continued to fight, a taxi pulled up next to them. A tall blonde exited the cab and stared at Siobhan in disgust “Classy as always Siobhan” Imogen Sandford; Anthony’s biological mother paid the taxi driver and stood with her suitcase, waiting for Siobhan’s reaction.
*
Lindsay stood aimlessly behind the bar of the Crown and Horseshoe, her estranged husband Daniel watched her from the doorway, he walked over to Lindsay and touched her shoulder “We’ll find her” He tried to sound reassuring, but Daniel wasn’t quite sure he believed his own words. Lindsay sniffed, shaking her head “We’ve lost her Daniel, she could be anywhere and the police won’t do anything to find her” Before Daniel could respond, Detective Sergeant Michael Connor walked into the pub and approached Lindsay and Daniel at the bar, he began to explain that he had identified the third man involved with the siege that had left Lindsay fighting for her life. Michael paused for a moment as Lindsay questioned the man’s identity “It’s Noah” Michael finally admitted. Lindsay gasped in shock; Daniel had to physically hold her up as she tried to comprehend the news. “There’s a warrant for Noah’s arrest” Michael explained “We’re going to find him, and we’re going to find Megan”
*
Megan Donovan screamed as she threw the towel across the room, a cockroach had got into the bathroom in the dirty hostel that Noah had found for them. Noah rushed into the bathroom to find his new wife in tears, but before he had the chance to comfort her, the owner of the hostel let himself into their room. He demanded the money that the couple owed, but when Noah opened his wallet, it was empty “Please, just give me a few hours, I will get the money” Noah promised. The hostel owner shook his head and suddenly pushed Noah violently against the wall “You said that yesterday” He pointed out angrily. Megan screamed and tried to pull the man off Noah, but he pushed Megan away causing Noah to lose his temper and punch him. Noah shouted at Megan to run, he grabbed their duffel bags and the couple escaped before the overweight man could stand up.
*
The sun was beginning to set over Canvey Island beach as Mia Faraday joined her friend Vicki at the park overlooking the beach, she frowned as she approached Vicki and Kyle, who were giggling and drinking from a large bottle of vodka. Vicki cheered as she noticed Mia and held out the bottle towards her, Mia stared for a moment before shaking her head “No thanks” She muttered and sat down on the roundabout. Vicki took another swig and moved in and kissed Kyle passionately on the lips. Mia cringed as the couple took no further notice of her presence.
*
Siobhan and Imogen stood outside Anthony’s hospital room and watched him in silence through the window “How could you let him get in this state?” Imogen finally broke the silence. Siobhan scoffed in disgust “How dare you!” Siobhan tried to keep her voice low “You walked out of Anthony’s life when he was two years old and never looked back, tell me Imogen, when was the last time you even sent him a birthday card?” Imogen took a step back in anger “I have made my mistakes Siobhan, but I am here now and I will fix the mess you’ve made” Before Siobhan could say another word, Imogen slowly approached Anthony’s room and let herself in, she sat herself down on the chair next to the bed and held onto his hand as he slept.
*
Lindsay finally locked the doors of the Crown and Horseshoe, she looked over to the clock and saw that it was one in the morning, quite late for a Wednesday night, she sighed as she cleared away the last of the glasses. She jumped out of her skin as Daniel suddenly appeared from what seemed like nowhere “Sorry Linds, I didn’t mean to startle you” Daniel apologised. Lindsay shrugged “This place seems so much quieter without Megan” Daniel approached Lindsay and supportively put his hand on her shoulder “Today must have brought back bad memories, of the siege I mean” Lindsay nodded and instinctively her hand fell to her womb which was no longer there “Everything changed that day” She whispered emotionally “And Noah was a big part of that and now he’s out there alone with our baby girl” Lindsay’s voice broke as she thought about her daughter. Daniel pulled Lindsay into a hug as she cried; she clung onto him tightly as she broke down. Slowly she moved away and stared at her estranged husband, she stroked his face softly, he closed his eyes at her touch and moved closer to her, the former couple began to kiss, hesitantly at first before getting more and more passionate.

APPLECOBBLERA strong return for HH. Daniel's reunion with Lindsay was a development which I didn't see coming so I look forward to seeing where you take that storyline - I'd like for them to make it work, although considering their previous split I'm not sure whether that can happen. The community feel of the project is a real selling point and allows storylines to encompass a wide range of characters. I must admit that Noah & Megan don't really grip me as a couple - while they seem to be happy together, especially following their secret wedding, both characters have acted quite impulsively in my view by going on the run and I still think Noah shouldn't have taken Megan back after she aborted their baby. Nevertheless, season two is off to a good start with the diversity of storylines, as ever, shining through HANNAH Thank you so much AC, Daniel and Lindsay's journey comes to a resolve over the next few weeks and it could go either way I quite like that views on Noah and Megan are quite split, they have had quite a issues for such a young couple. We have a lot up our sleeve in the next few weeks which we are excited about LEMSeason 2 has got off to a great start! I'm glad Anthony survived his attempted suicide, as he really has the potential to be one of High Hopes' strongest characters. I'm liking Imogen already, and loved her entrance, with the snide remark towards Siobhan. It'll be interesting to learn more about Imogen's past Noah and Megan's plot is bubbling away nicely, and I'm intrigued to see how they continue to cope. I'm pleased that Daniel and Lindsay have reconciled, as they were a great couple! Also, I'm really loving the fact that the Pub siege is still having an impact, if this were EastEnders, it would have been long forgotten! HANNAH Thank you ever so much Lem Anthony has a long way to go but he has some strong support with Siobhan, David, Mia and even Imogen. My lips are sealed regarding Lindsay and Daniel's future. Thank you, it was so important to me that the pub siege wasn't a sensationalist event, I have tried to explore every aftermath for the characters it has affected

2x04: 'Living around here, I think it’s a given that you have to keep secrets' | Written by Joe | Episode Twenty Four
The moon was high looking over Canvey Island. It is 1.23am and all the lights in the houses had gone out; all but one. Upstairs at The Crown and Horseshoe, estranged couple Daniel and Lindsay Hastings were in their martial bed once more. “I’ve missed you so much” smiles Daniel as he passionately kisses his wife. Lindsay however didn’t respond. Instead she pushes Daniel onto the bed and removes her top. Daniel then leans up and pulls his wife closer. Lindsay searching for her husband’s comfort kisses Daniel before moving over to the door. “You’re leaving?” asks a defeated Daniel. Lindsay however just smiles seductively. From outside the Crown and Horseshoe, the light in the bedroom went out.
*
Meanwhile, another light went out as Noah and Megan Donavan looked up at the latest Bed and Breakfast turn out their lights having turned the newly-weds away. “What are we supposed to do now?” asks an anxious and worried Megan. Noah trying to find the answers his wife so desperately wants fails to answer her. As Megan continues moaning and telling Noah that they need a place to stay for the night, how she needs a shower, clean clothes and something to eat, Noah turns to her and glares. “Don’t cha think I know that Megs…I’m trying…I’m flipping trying…give me a break” barks Noah before watching Megan burst into tears. “I didn’t sign up for this” smacks Megan as she wipes away her tears. Back on Canvey Island, Noah’s mother Naomi Donavan is looking up at the moon when she mutters to herself, “Why Noah? Why”. Making her way home, Naomi walks past the Crown and Horseshoe and thinks back to that terrible when 3 hooded men held the pub hostage with her own daughter Ava as one of the captives.
*
Over at the Connor household, Michael is fast asleep while his wife Heather sits up in bed. She looks at the clock, it is now 2.56am. She gets up and makes her way to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, she begins to cry. Heather then jumps when she feels Michael's hand on her shoulder. “You made me jump” says startled Heather as she tries to hide her tears from her husband. Michael then asks Heather what she is doing up and Heather looks at him blankly before bursting into tears. As Michael reaches out to his wife, Heather sobs softly.
*
Standing in the shower of her old bathroom, Lindsay is desperately washing her body, hair and everything she can touch. Fighting the tears, Lindsay eventually lets herself fall to the floor of the shower and begins to cry as she thinks of her missing daughter Megan and the huge mistake she has just made with husband Daniel.
*
Finally, arriving home, Naomi is just about to put the key into the front door when she hears footsteps behind. Turning around, Naomi is relieved to see it’s only David Fields who’s holding Ketchup and Scones. As David apologizes for startling her, Naomi is secretly relieved it wasn’t her stalker standing there. “Some late night shopping...It sure doesn’t look like any MacDonald’s I’ve seen” laughs Naomi as she clocks what David is holding. David laughs and explains that he is having cravings. Naomi laughs before bidding David good night. Letting herself inside, Naomi is surprised to see her husband Cole and daughter Ava standing in the kitchen, laughing and joking waiting for some milk to boil.
*
Looking out at the river, standing on the embankment, Megan is trying to fight her feelings and her desire to phone home when her husband Noah finally catches up to her. “Make it good Noah and make it right” snaps Megan before Noah explains he hasn’t found them a place to stay for the night. Megan then berates Noah for his efforts and tells him she wants to ring her parents, they can help and right now, that’s what they need. Noah however begs Megan not. “Megs, they’ll split us up. I can’t let that happen Megs, I love you…you don’t know how much I love…I’ve risked everything so I can be with you…please I will make it good, I’ll make it great and I will make it right because after all the wrongs, you are my right Megan. Please baby, I love you” begs Noah before Megansmiles and points to under the bridge. “Better make us a love nest then”.
*
On Canvey Island, David lets himself into his home where his pregnant girlfriend Michelle Fox is sitting on the sofa watching Jeremy Kyle. As David walks past the TV, he turns to Michelle and says “He’d have a field day with us eh”. Michelle then turns off the TV and follows David into the kitchen. “Are you sure we’re doing the right thing?” asks Michelle. “Well it’s 5.24am and I’m about to make you scones with ketchup, maybe not” laughs David before turning to Michelle and telling her that what they are doing is for the best. The best for them and the baby. And heaven forbid, for Steven Faraday. Michelle smiles but tells David that she has huge doubts. “Doubts are for people who live on the ground, and us babe, we’re looking to the skies. To a happy future, what’s wrong with that? Why doubt what we have?” says David before Michelle smiles and tells him to hurry up with her snack. After making her way back over to the sofa, Michelle asks David how his visit to the hospital to see Anthony went. David reveals he didn’t go. He couldn’t face it. “I just feel so guilty babe, why didn’t I see it…I could, I should have helped him” sighs David as he hands Michelle her snack. Michelle then tells David that he is a good man. Anthony was a hurting young man who was good at hiding his feelings and the most important thing is now at least David can be there for him.
*
Sitting in bed together, Michael and Heather are cuddling close as the rain begins to fall outside. Michael pulls Heather close to him as the rain beats off the bedroom window. “Maybe Siobhan is right…maybe Vicki is responsible” says Heather as she looks at Michael. Michael then tells Heather that while Vicki isn’t guilt free, it’s not fair for Siobhan to place all the blame on Vicki’s lap. “Michael, I know what you’re saying but our daughter was so mean, so hurtful that that boy felt he had no choice but to do what he did, I can’t see how Vicki isn’t partly to blame and I can’t keep defending her, she needs to step up and she needs to apologize” tears Heather as Michael kisses his wife’s forehead.
*
Over at the Donavan household, Naomi joins Cole and Ava as they sit at the kitchen table all drinking hot milk. “We haven’t done this in years” smiles Naomi, finally feeling safe for the longest time. Cole explains that hot milk was in short supply where he was before asking what excuse for the delay in doing it is theirs. Ava tells him that it wasn’t the same without him. He makes the best hot milk. The family then laugh before Naomi looks up at the wall and see a picture of Noah. “I can’t do this” Naomi stands up, “I’m sorry Cole, I can’t”, Naomi begins to pace the floor, “What’s wrong” asks Ava, “Na, please. Not now, please not now” begs Cole grabbing Naomi and pulling her from the kitchen, “Ava darling, sweetie, I need to tell you something” begins Naomi as Cole turns away, “The siege sweetheart, they know who the third guy was…He was…he is…I mean, the person who helped…I’m so sorry my sweet girl, I’m so sorry…Cole, help please” cries Naomi as the emotion overtakes her. “Ava, the third person involved was…Noah…He helped the Thompsons” says Cole while taking hold of his wife in one arm and holding his devastated daughters hand.
*
The sun begins to dawn on Canvey Island as Lindsay makes her way downstairs trying not to make a sound as she attempts to leave the Crown and Horseshoe without waking husband Daniel. Taking one last look around, Lindsay looks at her watch, it’s 6.47 am and she’s sneaking out of her own home. Shutting the door behind her, Lindsay takes a sigh of relief as she looks out on Canvey Island. But before she can take another step, her sister-in-law, Sophia Faraday who is out jogging stops to chat. “Dirty stop out” laughs Sophia before Lindsay throws her a look, “Or maybe not, are you okay Linds?”. Lindsay then asks Sophia if she can keep a secret. “Living around here, I think it’s a given that you have to keep secrets” replies Sophia. Lindsay then confesses that she and Daniel slept together. As an excited Sophia asks if she and Daniel are getting back together, Lindsay just stands there in silence. “I feel awful Sophia, I really do, I mean I love him, I’ll always love Daniel, he gave me Megan, but I’m not in love with him anymore and tonight, well tonight just proved it, me and Daniel are over” confesses Lindsay.

APPLECOBBLERA mixed bag of an instalment if I'm honest. The episode had an original structure to it and there were some interesting developments plot wise - particularly with the Donovans discovering that Noah had a part to play in the siege and it was also touching to see Lindsay turn to Sophia as a source of support. However some dialogue didn't ring true, and there were a significant amount of errors as far as spelling and grammar were concerned, while elsewhere some exchanges felt a little melodramatic for me to be able to connect to what was happening. Sorry if I've come across as harsh in my feedback, and on the whole this was another decent episode HANNAH Thank you AC, honesty is always good because it gives us an idea of how to improve Apologies for any errors, I should have read through properly yesterday before I posted, but I was being lazy ROSSI must say, I do disagree with a lot that AC's said so far! Megan and Noah for me, personally, have made Season 2 so far - and are by far on eof the project's biggest selling points Their story has been beautifully crafted, and I honestly cannot wait to see how they develop in the future I also disagree with AC's comment that Noah shouldn't have taken Megan back after she aborted the baby... to be fair, he had abandoned her, whilst she was pregnant - and she felt forced to do what she did. In my opinion, that's his fault, not her's - so, if anything, I feel that Megan should've been the one to hesitate about a reunion with Noah! Already I'm quite liking Imogen - but I'm not liking how she's treating Siobhan! Siobhan's been more of a mother for Anthony than Imogen ever has, and Imogen has no right whatsoever to just come back into their lives after so long and expect everything to be back to normal... if I'm already getting worked up about this story, you're obviously doing a good job of it! I really adore Michelle as a character - she's my favourite HH character - and I also adore her and David as a couple! I'm gutted that Lindsay decided that things are definitely over for her and Daniel, because evern though I didn't see it coming at all, and I wasn't really their biggest fan when they were together before, I must admit I found their scenes in Episode 3 beautiful, and they were, admittedly, my favourite scene of Season 2 so far The only thing I unfortunately do agree with AC on is that the dialogue, grammar and spelling was quite off in Episode 4... the story-telling was great, don't get me wrong, but I personally find it quite distracting if there are quite a few mistakes (even though I'm guilty of this myself! ) Scene 5 of Episode 4 for me, was a bit of a WTF moment... IMO, it really didn't make much sense, and it was just a bit too odd for me! Sorry I couldn't have been a bit more positive about Joe's first episode back on HH! Story-wise, however, High Hopes is on absolute top form right now, and I am honestly SO excited about the show's incredibly bright future HANNAH Thank you ever so much Ross for your kindness. It's interesting to see such a diverse opinion on Megan and Noah, what I like about the couple is that they've both done things yet there's still a kind of sweetness there between them. I'm glad to see Imogen making an impression, she has this insecurity about Siobhan and Anthony's relationship, which to be fair she only has herself to blame for
JOE Hey AC and Ross, thank you for taking the time to catch up and read High Hopes. We, Hannah and I take all your comments on board and will work harder to make High Hopes better. Overall, we think it is improving and hope it will grow as this season continues. We've got some fantastic stories coming up! I will personally work more on my grammar and spelling issues, so I apologize for that! Other than that, thanks guys and please stay tuned as this season will have secrets, lies, betrayal, twists and turns! Enjoy the ride and thanks again!

2x05: 'I'll have a round of shots ... 25 please' | Written by Joe | Episode Twenty Five
Sitting on her sofa alone in her flat, Chloe Charles excitedly taps away on her laptop. Looking at the screen she is delighted when Mark messages her back about their upcoming date. Reading the message, Chloe sees that Mark would like to move their date forward to later today. Chloe quickly replies and asks what time and where. After receiving the response, Chloe jumps from the sofa. Standing there in a pair of sweat pants and a baggy jumper, she gets thinking. “Right, fake tan, hair and nails…Oh God, I’ll never be ready in 5 hours” says Chloe before making a dash for her bedroom.
*
Meanwhile, over at the Donavan household, Naomi Donovan is making lunch when her husband Cole joins her. Gently hugging his wife before kissing her, Cole asks Naomi if she’s okay. “I’m fine, well as fine as I can be” replies a despondent Naomi. Cole then tells Naomi that while he didn’t agree with her, he thinks it’s for the best now that Ava knows the truth about Noah’s role in the siege. Naomi however tells Cole that she doesn’t want to get into it but he pushes her on the subject and tells her they need to be on the same boat going forward. “For the 25th time just drop it Cole” snaps Naomi before grabbing her purse and making her way towards the front door. “Where are you going? We need to talk this Naomi” shouts Cole after Naomi, “I’m going for milk because you boiled the last bottle.”
*
Over at the hospital, Anthony Spencer is sitting up in bed, looking out the window when he sees David Fields standing outside the ward. Anthony smiles at David and beckons him in. As David heads inside to see Anthony, Imogen Sandford, Anthony’s mother is making her way into the hospital. However, Imogen is spotted by Siobhan, Anthony’s step mother. “Imogen, where do you think you’re going?” shouts Siobhan as she chases Imogen into the hospital. “I’m going to see my son” replies Imogen, “Good to see you remembered you had one” spits Siobhan. As the ladies continue their argument into the lift, David apologizes to Anthony, telling him how he wished he could have been there for him and how sorry he is, that he wasn’t. Anthony just nods and tells David that the place he was in was so dark that he doesn’t think anyone could have reached him. David then asks Anthony if he finds being in hospital boring and Anthony nods yes so David begins singing 25 bottles sitting on a wall. Suddenly, the boys hear fighting and David gets up to look. “It’s your Mum, she’s having a proper slagging match” says David to Anthony before Siobhan and Imogen storm into the ward.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe pub, Lindsay Hastings is serving a few customers at the bar, while over in the corner Patrick Hale and Kayla Macey are enjoying a drink together, taking a break from their role as foster parents to the Campbell twins. At the window seats, Michael Connor joins his wife Heather. “Ye okay for everything?” asks Lindsay as she clears up some glasses at the table next to them. Michael answers that they are fine. After Lindsay has gone back behind the bar, Michael asks if Heather has spoken to daughter Vicki yet. Heather tells him that she hasn’t because she doesn’t quite know how to bring up the subject. Meanwhile, Patrick and Kayla are discussing the Campbell twins. “You know we need to be firm and strong, set boundaries and stick to them, I ain’t having him disrespect us” says Patrick about Kyle. Kayla agrees but thinks maybe a softly approach might work too. Patrick however dismisses this just as Michael passes them heading to the bar. “Do you think we should talk to him and Heather about Vicki and Kyle?” asks a concerned Kayla. Making her way into the bar, Ava Donavan stands looking at the pub. She notices Patrick and Kayla deep in conversation, she says “Hi” to Michael as he passes before finally, she sees Lindsay and begins to cry. Rushing over to her, Lindsay asks Ava if she’s okay. “No, no I’m…I hate it…I hate what happened here…I can’t forget it and now that I know about Noah it’s going to be so much harder” cries Ava before Lindsay takes her to the back room.
*
Heading into town, Chloe is dressed to the nines. As she jumps into the taxi, the taxi driver comments on how good she looks. “Cheers mate, I’m actually going on a date” smiles an excited Chloe. “Lucky guy” adds the taxi driver.
*
Back at the hospital, Imogen is sitting beside Anthony’s bed as Siobhan thanks David for visiting him. “He’s a good lad” smiles David before Siobhan adds that she agrees. “You know sweetheart you gave me, well all of us a fright” says Imogen as she holds Anthony’s hand. Anthony however says nothing. Imogen gets up and goes to pour Anthony a drink of water. “You know I remember when you born, I had such a thirst on me after, I must have peed for nearly a week straight after all the water I drank” laughs Imogen. “Do you wanna know what I remember, I remember the day you walked out, yeah I didn’t feel like drinking much that day or doing anything for that matter” snaps Anthony.
*
Elsewhere, Noah and Megan Donavan are walking the street with their bags. “At least it’s stopped raining eh” smiles Noah. Megan however doesn’t respond. “So do you wanna head to the park or something?” asks Noah. “For what, to check the bins for food or newspapers to keep us warm tonight” snaps Megan. Noah explains that things will get better, he just needs time. “Well they can’t get much worse” smacks Megan before it starts to rain, “Spoke too soon”.
*
Standing outside Nicola’s, a trendy cocktail bar, Chloe checks her watch again. It’s 7.47 and her date was meant to meet her at 7. Pulling out her phone, Chloe sends him a message. After waiting a few seconds, Chloe checks her phone again. No new messages. Grabbing her phone, she calls her best friend Olivia Kane, “I don’t suppose you fancy a cocktail, I’m buying” asks Chloe.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay is sitting in the backroom with a tearful Ava. “How could he do it?..My own brother…he must have seen me….seen how scared I was” sobs Ava, “I’ll never forgive him”. Lindsay tells Ava that while Noah has a lot to answer for, she needs to put it behind her. “How can you be like this…you lost your… you lost a lot because of him…look at what he stole form you” states Ava. Lindsay explains that it’s been hard to accept what happened that night but they need to move on. “I’ll never move on, I don’t know how you can” snaps Ava before leaving the room. As Lindsay calls to Ava to come back, she begins to cry herself.
*
At the cocktail bar, Chloe is in high spirits when Olivia arrives. “Same again mate” laughs Chloe before she notices Olivia. “Actually mate, cancel that…I’ll have a round of shots….25 please” smiles Chloe. As the bartender looks at Olivia, Chloe tells him to hurry up. “25 shots, things must be serious, they cancel Desperate Housewives again” asks Olivia. Chloe then explains to Olivia that she feels like she’s a desperate housewife or well she’d like the chance to be anyway but she can’t because her date stood her up. Olivia then comforts her friend before cancelling the drinks. As Chloe sobs, Olivia phones her partner Matthew Fitzgerald to come and collect them.
*
Walking along the bay of Canvey Island, Naomi is lost in her thoughts as Duncan Faraday and Katherine Lavery wave to her. “Poor woman, she’s gone through so much” sighs Katherine, “Yeah well the sooner her son gets back here with my granddaughter the better as far as I’m concerned” snaps Duncan. “You’re so compassionate sometimes Duncan, it amazes me” replies Katherine before telling Duncan to take her for a G and T.
*
At the hospital, Imogen is saying goodbye to Anthony. “I’ll come see you again tomorrow okay darling” smiles Imogen as she leans in to give Anthony a kiss. Anthony however pulls back. “Fine, fine…you want to play it like that then fine. But Anthony I made a mistake, I walked out, I left you. I was wrong and I am sorry. I am so sorry, don’t you think I know what I messed up, I missed so much and I am trying to make that better but I need you to help me” snaps an emotional Imogen. As Anthony begins to soften, Imogen starts to cry. “I’m sorry Anthony. From the day I left I never stopped thinking about you. And every day it just got harder to come back and I know that that’s not good enough but it’s all I’ve got. So that’s it…actually it’s not. I’m not going anywhere so for as long as it takes, I’m sticking, I’m your Mother and I will make things right” tears Imogen before leaving the ward.
*
At the cocktail bar, Chloe is dancing with some random guy on the dance floor when Matthew arrives. As Olivia makes her way over to him, a guy tries to chat her up. “Get your hands off her” snaps Matthew before the guy backs off. “What the hell is going Liv?” asks an annoyed Matthew. Olivia explains that Chloe got stood up. “Yeah well you didn’t so come on lets go” pushes Matthew. Olivia tells him that she can’t just leave Chloe. “She looks fine to me. She looks like she’s enjoying herself in fact” points Matthew as Olivia sees Chloe locking lips with the guy she was dancing with. “Okay well I guess she seems to be sorted so okay…I’ll text her and tell her I left” sighs Olivia.
*
Walking past the Crown and Horseshoe, Naomi stands and looks up at it. However, Lindsay soon emerges from the door. “Lindsay, hi, how are you?” asks Naomi. Lindsay tries to talk nicely to Naomi and chat about her day before turning on her. “You know what Naomi, I’m not great, in fact I’m devastated. And it’s your son’s fault. I thought I had made peace with the siege and all that happened to me…you know losing my womb, my marriage falling apart, my daughter having an abortion…and then your son comes swanning back in and kidnaps my daughter and drags her off heaven knows where so how I am…I’m livid Naomi and I really don’t want to talk to you…oh and one other thing, talk to your daughter because she’s hurting and stop feeling so sorry for yourself” snaps Lindsay before walking off leaving Naomi reeling.
*
Falling out of the cocktail bar, Chloe is clearly drunk. “Hey where are you going?” asks Chloe as the guy she was dancing with heads for a taxi. But before the guy can answer, Chloe falls over and starts laughing. He then tells her that she’s a wreck before jumping into a taxi. As Chloe sits on the ground, she pulls out her phone. She sees the message from Olivia. “Some mate you are” snaps Chloe before standing up. “Right…I need to get home” laughs Chloe as she staggers down the road. However, as she drops her bag her lipstick rolls away from her. Picking her things and throwing them into her handbag, she walks down a lane to get her lipstick. As she picks up the lipstick, she hears footsteps behind. Suddenly, a scream pierces the night as Chloe dragged further into the lane.

APPLECOBBLERChloe's rape storyline has the potential to be extremely sad and affecting, and I am looking forward to see where you take this as it will doubtless impact upon a wide range of characters. However I did feel this episode was somewhat contrived and had quite a few continuity issues. The whole focus on the number twenty-five ended up detracting from scenes, as it meant that I could take them less seriously. Likewise, description and dialogue weren't particularly convincing in parts, with clunky sentences such as "Chloe then explains to Olivia that she feels like she’s a desperate housewife or well she’d like the chance to be anyway but she can’t because her date stood her up". At the moment I'm sorry to say that the second season of High Hopes is currently lacking the subtlety and plausibility which it has demonstrated so ably in the past. I hope that these issues can be ironed out as the project progresses CHLOE EPISODE 21 (2x01) This was a fantastically diverse opener. I loved all the Noah and Megan stuff, and the cliffhanger was also excellent!
EPISODE 22 (2x02) Just as good as the opener. Vile Vicky is great fun, while Kyle and Molly are settling in weel and certainly making their mark! And the latest twist in the armed robbery plot involving Noah was another exciting step forward for that plot
EPISODE 23 (2x03) I am definitely #TeamMegah! As Ross says they are SO cute and yet so doomed. The Daniel/Lindsay reunion scene was very moving and totally believable. And Imogen Sandford - wow, what an entrance!
EPISODE 24 (2x04) Sorry to say but Scene 5 was just plain bizarre, I didn't understand it at all. I liked the stucture of the episode being set over one night; I feel the plots had reached the right point for what was quite a reflective episode. But some of the dialogue was hammy and it almost felt like every single character cried in this episode, which became repetitive. There were a few continuity errors as well - Megah were apparently staying in a hotel in this episode, even though in the last episode they had to do a runner from a hostel because they couldn't afford it. So quite patchy
EPISODE 25 (2x05) Again quite patchy, although the dialogue was better. Still quite a few spelling and grammar mistakes though, but it's the continuity errors that are the biggest issue. Siobhan confronting Imogen going to see Anthony at hospital - she didn't have a problem with it in Episode 23 (2x03). Also Imogen snarking at Siobhan for fighting with Vicki's mum in the street gave the impression that Imogen was above that kind of thing - yet there she is, bickering pointlessly with Siobhan at the hospital. Other things didn't make much sense. Why would David sing 25 bottles sitting on a wall to Anthony? Anthony's 16, not 6. At the moment Imogen's backstory doesn't make much sense, but I'll humour you on that one and assume it will be told more deeply as and when. On a more positive note, the Lindsay/Ava/Naomi material was excellent and very believable. Lindsay is so torn emotionally over Megah's disappearance, but she is handling it as best she can. And the tragic events leading up to Chloe's attack were well constructed, making the actual attack all the more devastating. I don't envy Olivia, that's for sure ROSS Episode 25 (2x05) for me was quite a let-down, I must be honest Chloe's story, honestly, was the only plot in this episode that I was truly gripped by - which for me is unusual with High Hopes, which I usually find is full to the brim with compelling and hanging-off-the-page stuff every episode! "I'll have a round of shots... 25 please", "for the 25th time just drop it Cole", "David begins singing 25 bottle sitting on a wall"... I take it that the use of "25" was to mark the show's 25th episode? Whilst it was clever, I feel that it was over-used, and some of the uses of the number where OTT... who sings "25 bottles sitting on a wall" to a 16 year old boy? Dialogue through the episode was misplaced for me (for example: Lindsay said "ye" in scene 4, but that's really not the kind of thing you'd expect her to say, which makes it feel very unrealistic for me). And some characters were acting very out of character: Katherine "telling" Duncan to get her a G&T, Matthew "pushing Olivia out of the club (seemingly forcefully) and making her leave her best friend all alone (which I also feel is unrealstic... Olivia adores Chloe, and vice versa, so why would she leave her friend all alone with a group of strangers? That's not the kind of thing you'd expect from such a strong friendship). I'm really sorry I couldn't be more positive about this episode... I am a big fan of HH, and all I want is to see the show do well, but this episode was a let down for me, personally, and I honestly feel as though there should've been a higher stadard of writing for such an important episode. Sorry if you find this harsh, but it's genuinely how I feel! Sorry, guys
HANNAH Thank you Applecobbler, Chloe and Ross for all your feedback. It really does help us to know where we need to improve and your feedback gives us something to work on. I am so pleased that you are enjoying aspects of HH, I speak for myself when I say that I really enjoy writing the show and I feel very attached to the characters and their stories. I think one of our main improvements that we need to work on is the combination of two writers, something that I really admire of the three main forum soaps is how you guys are able to write together so seamlessly and that is an area where HH needs some work on. I do apologise for any continuity errors, I feel a little embarrassed and I should have picked up on them. I really do hope that you guys stick with HH while we iron out the kinks and hopefully develop the show into something really strong and loved

2x06: 'At least that's one child happy and content out of three' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty Six
Please note this episode deals with mature issues
In an alleyway, Chloe Charles lay still with her eyes closed tightly, if she couldn’t see, then it wasn’t happening. It was happening to somebody else, not Chloe, not in this alleyway. Finally everything went quiet and she heard the footsteps fade away. After what felt like hours, Chloe opened her eyes and winced in pain as she moved her body so she could sit up and lean against the brick wall. She pulled her bag towards her and shakily emptied it all over the floor; finally she found her phone and called her best friend Olivia Kane. Over at the flat Olivia shared with her boyfriend Matthew Fitzgerald, Olivia woke up to the sound of her phone vibrating on the bedside table “Who is it?” Matthew asked groggily. “It’s Chloe” Olivia whispered “She’s probably pissed that I left her at the bar” Matthew rolled his eyes in the dark “Pissed is one word for what Chloe was tonight, don’t answer it, talk to her in the morning when she’s sobered up.” Olivia stared at her ringing phone in the dark, torn. Back in the alleyway, Chloe cried as the call went through to Olivia’s voicemail, she dropped the phone in distress “Please help me” She cried.
*
Heather Connor stood at the bedroom door of her fifteen year old daughter Vicki “Vicki, are you still awake?” Heather called. Inside the bedroom, Vicki smiled mischievously as she placed her finger seductively over the mouth of her boyfriend Kyle Campbell “Shush” She whispered. Back on the other side of the door, Heather hesitated, but eventually chose not to enter Vicki’s room. Vicki listened to Heather’s footsteps walk away and pulled Kyle closer to her, kissing him passionately.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, estranged couple Daniel and Lindsay Hastings awkwardly finished clearing up after closing time. They had barely spoken since their one night stand the week previously, Daniel hesitated as he saw Lindsay put on her coat “You’re welcome to spend the night here Linds, you know, if you don’t want to walk home alone” Lindsay smiled at Daniel awkwardly “I walk home alone every night” She muttered. Daniel nodded and was quiet for a moment “Did you fancy a night cap?” He asked hopefully. Lindsay sighed “I think we need to talk about the other night, I think it meant something different to you than it did to me” Daniel’s smile faded “We don’t have to do this now, sleep on it” Lindsay shook her head “I don’t need to sleep on it Daniel, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I want a divorce, I’m so sorry” Before Daniel could respond, they were interrupted by the sound of Lindsay’s phone “I’m sorry Daniel, I really have to take this” Lindsay grabbed her handbag and let herself out of the pub, once outside she answered the call “Chloe, are you ok?”
*
Naomi Donovan found her daughter Ava snuggled up on the sofa watching a late night film “Can’t you sleep honey?” Ava shook her head, Naomi sat down next to her and pulled her daughter closer to her “I know you’re struggling, but we haven’t heard Noah’s side of the story yet” Ava glared at Naomi in disbelief “He held a gun and pointed it at me and our friends, our neighbours, people we care about. There is no excuse for this Mum, nothing can excuse Noah’s behaviour this time” Ava spat and angrily stood up leaving Naomi sitting in the dark alone.
*
Chloe struggled to walk down the alleyway; she was in severe pain. She could feel the stones cut into her feet as she walked along the pavement bare foot, she sighed in relief as she finally saw the blue lights of the police car. PC Harry Campbell slowly walked towards Chloe, taking in her torn dress and the blood and bruises that had formed all over her body. “I’m PC Campbell, are you Chloe?” Chloe stared at the young policeman in a mixture of fear and suspicion. She nodded slowly. Out the corner of her eye, Chloe saw a car pull up and Lindsay get out, Chloe rushed towards her and threw herself into Lindsay’s arms and broke down in tears.
*
Heather joined her husband Michael on the sofa and kissed him softly on the cheek “Did you talk to Vicki?” He asked. Heather shook her head “She was fast asleep, I didn’t want to disturb her” Michael affectionately played with Heather’s hair “She’s not as malicious as Siobhan thinks, she’s just a kid. I’m sure Vicki feels guilty and embarrassed for the way she treated Anthony” Heather sighed “I don’t want to fight with Siobhan anymore. I don’t see eye to eye with her on a lot of things, Josh being one of them, but she makes him happy and I haven’t seen him this focused and content in a long time” Michael agreed “She is good for him, well at least that’s one child happy and content out of three” He laughed.
Chloe clung onto Lindsay’s hand as Harry and his colleague PC Brenda Hope led them into a soft interview room, Chloe began to panic and tug at her clothes “I want to go home, I need to get changed. I need to wash” She cried. Lindsay put her arm around Chloe as Harry gestured at them to sit down “I understand Chloe, but we need to preserve as much evidence from tonight as we can. I know you must feel very uncomfortable in the same clothes, but Chloe, you have done the right thing” Brenda placed a cup of tea down in front of Chloe, she picked it up but she didn’t drink from it, she just held it, relieved to feel some kind of warmth. “I’m going to ask you what happened now Chloe and I’m going to ask you some questions, you may find the type of questions uncomfortable, but I’m not trying to embarrass you or distress you, I am just trying to find out exactly what happened” Chloe nodded and looked over at Lindsay; Lindsay smiled supportively and held onto her hand. “Ok” Chloe whispered. “You left Nicola’s cocktail bar at half past eleven, is that correct?” Chloe nodded and muttered “Yes” She began to recall stumbling out of the cocktail bar and remembered the guy getting into the taxi leaving her alone, she closed her eyes as she envisioned herself stumbling around the street drunk and alone “He pulled me into the alleyway and ripped my tights and my knickers” Chloe stopped and brought her hand to her mouth, she began to gag as though she was about to be sick, Lindsay rubbed her back, calming Chloe down until she was ready to begin to talk again. Chloe described the savage attack with as much detail as she could remember, but already things were hazy “I kept my eyes closed” Chloe admitted “I should have fought back, most women fight back” Chloe cried, Lindsay comforted her as she sobbed. Harry leant forward to have a sip of water; he then focused back on Chloe “There is no right or wrong in this situation Chloe, we are here to support you” Harry paused for a moment “We’re going to stop for now and Brenda will take you for a medical examination” Chloe looked at Lindsay “Please, will you come with me?” Lindsay rubbed Chloe’s shoulder “Of course I will honey”
*
As daylight hit Canvey Island, David Fields stood against a car outside the garage that he owned, he was thinking about Anthony Spencer, who was still in hospital. He felt guilty that he wasn’t there for his friend when he needed him, David’s train of thought was interrupted by the appearance of a blonde woman walking towards him, she held out his hand towards him “Imogen Sandford, I didn’t get the chance to introduce myself properly yesterday at the hospital” She introduced herself, David took her hand and returned the favour. “I’m Anthony’s mother” She explained. “I’ve heard a lot about you David, Anthony thinks a lot about you” David smiled “I’m sorry” He apologised genuinely “For not seeing how much Anthony was suffering” Imogen nodded understandingly “I’m not one to judge” Imogen admitted “I wanted to make sure that Anthony’s job will still be here waiting once he’s recovered” David nodded “Of course without a question” Imogen thanked David and said goodbye, leaving David feeling more positive and determined to support his friend.
*
Chloe sat motionless wearing the gown the nurse had given to her, the nurse called her name again to get her attention. “I’ll say that again for you Chloe, the most important thing is that you know that I won’t do anything without your consent” Chloe nodded, she didn’t say a word. The nurse put on a pair of white rubber gloves “I know this is the last thing you want to think about Chloe, but we need to talk about emergency contraception. I can prescribe you the morning after pill and we will have to talk about the risks of contracting HIV or Hepatitis B” Chloe cringed in disgust “I can’t think about that now” The nurse nodded supportively “Ok Chloe, we’ll talk about it afterwards. I am going to begin the examination now Chloe”
*
Walking into Last Minute Supermarket, Ava felt the atmosphere quieten, she noticed shop assistants Katherine Lavery and Kayla Macey stop talking and stare at her with sympathy, she walked over to the magazines and tried to concentrate on choosing something to read. Over at the till, Kayla whispered to Katherine “You have to feel sorry for the girl, her brother was one of the gunmen. Do you think she knew?” Katherine sighed “I just hope that the police find Noah Donovan before I do, I could ring his neck for what he put my Siobhan through” Ava suddenly appeared at the till and threw the change on the counter for her magazine, as she went to leave, Ava suddenly stopped, she lifted her skirt and showed the women that scar on her leg “I suffered that day too and no I didn’t know” She said coldly and walked out.
*
Back in the soft interview room, Harry supportively praised Chloe’s bravery during the examination; he explained what would happen next and promised Chloe that he would do his best to find her attacker. “Can I take Chloe home now?” Lindsay asked. Harry nodded “We will have to interview you again tomorrow, more in depth, but it’s important that you go home now and get some rest” Chloe and Lindsay walked towards the door, Chloe looked back towards Harry “Thank you” She whispered.
*
A montage begins as Ava closes her bedroom door, she let a tear fall down as she stared at the framed photograph on her bedside table, it was a family photograph taken a few months previous. She looked at her smiling brother Noah stood with his arm around her. Ava frowned and placed the frame face down on the wood, while in Chloe’s bedroom, she pulled the duvet cover over her bruised body, Lindsay came in and placed a cup of tea down on the table next to the bed and sat down on the bed next to Chloe, as Lindsay lightly stroked her hair, Chloe began to cry.

CHLOEA delicate, understated and impressively powerful follow-up. The juxtaposition of Ava haunted by Noah's actions and Chloe haunted by her attacker's actions made for a haunting and compelling crossover narrative

2x07: 'I can see your cheekbones' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty Six Young couple Michelle Fox and David Fields were sat in the waiting room at Canvey Island General Hospital, Michelle held on tightly to David’s hand as they waited for Michelle’s name to be called. Finally, after another ten minutes they heard Michelle’s name. The couple excitedly followed the young female doctor and answered her questions about morning sickness and back aches. Michelle lay back on the bed and shivered as the Dr Harper covered Michelle’s stomach with the ultrasound gel, Michelle could feel her breathing quicken as she stared at the screen. Dr Harper pointed to the screen and showed the couple the baby’s heartbeat. Michelle gasped excitedly “David, the baby’s waving to us” David smiled and waved his hand “Hello baby” He laughed awkwardly. “Is this your first baby?” Dr Harper asked kindly. Michelle looked at David “Yeah it is” David answered and pulled Michelle’s hand so it entwined with his. The appointment lasted twenty minutes as the doctor took measurements and gave the couple a due date “I’m going to print you both some photographs” Before Dr Harper could finish her sentence, Michelle interrupted “Wait, hold on. Are you sure the baby’s ok? You have checked properly?” Dr Harper smiled “Everything is perfect Miss Fox.”

It had been a week since the vicious attack on Chloe Charles; the young barmaid had confined herself inside her flat, refusing to see or speak to anyone, even her best friend Olivia Kane, who had spent the whole week trying to contact her. Chloe wandered aimlessly around the darkened flat and jumped as the buzzer scared her half to death, she walked over to the window and looked down to the entrance to the flats, she saw her boss and friend Lindsay Hastings stood there holding a plastic Tupperware box. Chloe sighed and let her in. As Lindsay entered the flat, she explained that she had brought Chloe over a homemade lasagne “When was the last time you ate anything Chloe?” Lindsay questioned “I can see your cheekbones” Chloe shrugged “I’ve tried Linds, but I end up throwing it back up again” Lindsay prepared the lasagne and heated it up in the oven as Chloe sat down on the sofa, she curled up her legs and rested her head on the cushion, Lindsay joined her and stared at her sympathetically “I can’t pretend to know what you’re going through Chloe” Lindsay spoke softly “But I don’t think it’s helping shutting yourself up like this” Chloe didn’t respond “You need to fight back against this Chlo, don’t let this animal destroy you” Chloe sat up and began to get emotional “How can I Lindsay? How can I fight back when I didn’t fight back that night? I deserved it, I deserved what I got” Chloe cried. Lindsay shook her head “Nobody asks to be raped Chloe” Chloe stood up and began to pace around the living room “You saw what I was wearing Linds, I was slaughtered and all over different men the whole night, no wonder this guy thought he could take what he wanted” Lindsay stood up and tried to calm Chloe down “Don’t you dare blame yourself, just because you wore a short skirt and had a few drinks does not give any man the right to brutally attack you” Chloe covered her face with her hands in distress “But that’s what everybody’s gonna think, slapper barmaid got what was coming to her” Chloe gave up and collapsed against Lindsay in tears “We’re going to get you through this Chloe, I promise.”
*
At Faradays restaurant, Cole Donovan met his wife Naomi for lunch; the atmosphere had been awkward between the couple since they had revealed the truth to their daughter Ava about her brother Noah’s role in the pub siege. Cole was determined to build bridges with his wife “How was your lessons this morning?” Cole attempted to make conversation. Naomi just shrugged “Teenagers complaining about Shakespeare yet again, nothing new” As Naomi tucked into her risotto, Cole stared at her “We have to pull together Naomi, I know I was hard on you for telling Ava, but I realise it was the right thing to do. A family shouldn’t have secrets, I understand that” Naomi sighed and pushed her plate away, barely touched “I can’t do this right now Cole, fancy lunches and wine, not while our little girl’s heart is breaking and our son is God knows where” Naomi stood up and walked out of the restaurant leaving Cole sat alone at the table, wondering where Naomi’s meltdown had come from.
*
In the hospital ward, David sat staring at Michelle’s scan photograph as he waited for his friend Anthony Spencer to wake up. Anthony soon began to stir and smiled when he realised that David was there. “How you doing Anthony?” David asked. Anthony shrugged “They’re thinking of letting me go home tomorrow, but they want me to see a shrink” David nodded “I think it could be a good idea” Anthony frowned “I’ve got you to talk to” David reassured Anthony that he would always be around for him, but he needed to open up to someone professional. Meanwhile, outside the ward, Anthony’s mother Imogen Sandford stood watching Anthony and David’s interactions with interest. Back inside, David told Anthony that he had some news he wanted to share with his friend “I wanted you to be the first person I told, Michelle and I are having a baby” Anthony stared at David in shock, he felt physically sick as he took in David’s news. “Congratulations” Anthony managed to whisper. The atmosphere was awkward as they both struggled to know what to say next, Anthony began to yawn and David excused himself to let Anthony rest. As he exited the ward, he bumped into Imogen. They exchanged small talk and soon enough Imogen brought up what she was really thinking. “I’ve seen the way Anthony looks at you, I’m not blind” David stood awkwardly before admitting Michelle’s suspicions that Anthony had a crush on him. Imogen looked back through the window to the ward “Do you think Anthony could have tried to kill himself because he’s scared of his own sexuality?” David sighed “It has crossed my mind. Vicki Connor bullied him for months, but he’d already left school. He didn’t have to deal with her as much anymore, there has to be more to it” David hesitated for a moment “Michelle’s pregnant” He blurted out suddenly “Anthony knows, just keep an eye on him Imogen, I don’t want to see him going backwards” Imogen promised to look after her son and congratulated David on his good news.
*
Back at Faradays, Sophia Faraday noticed Cole sitting alone staring into space “Penny for your thoughts” She smiled politely as she brought him over the desserts menu. Cole laughed “I don’t think they’re worth that much” Cole invited Sophia to sit down and he admitted that he was worried about his family “I feel like everything’s falling apart. Ava has been through so much and there is nothing I can say to make it better for her and Noah, well everybody on the island knows about Noah” Sophia smiled sympathetically “Ava’s a strong girl, she’ll be ok” Cole and Sophia talked more about Ava and Noah and the conversation soon moved on to how useless Cole felt as a husband “I have spent the past nine months since getting out of prison looking for a job, but nobody will give me a chance” Cole complained “I even thought of starting my own business, but the bank turned me down. Don’t mention it to Naomi though, I didn’t want to get her hopes up” Sophia promised not to say anything “What did you have in mind?” Sophia asked curiously “A nightclub” Cole admitted “It was my dream to run my own place, but with everything that has happened, I have just never stood a chance” Sophia looked around the restaurant “I guess some people just can’t catch a break” Sophia excused herself and returned to the bar, she stood looking around thoughtfully.
*
Michelle and David walked happily into the Crown and Horseshoe and made their way over to the bar, David greeted Lindsay politely and ordered a bottle of champagne. His friend Olivia Kane eyed him suspiciously “Celebrating?” She questioned as she was joined at the bar by her partner Matthew Fitzgerald. Meanwhile, Sophia was sitting with her husband Steven opening up about her dissatisfaction with her role as the manager at Faradays, however Steven couldn’t help but become distracted by Michelle and David’s celebrations at the bar. David looked around the bar and managed to get the attention of everybody in the pub, he looked at Michelle and smiled, but Michelle looked nervous and unsure. “I would like everyone to raise their glasses and join me in a toast” David gave a glass of champagne each to Olivia and Matthew, while Michelle had hers mixed with orange juice. “My beautiful girlfriend Michelle here has made me the happiest man in the world, she is making me a father” David beamed as he held up their scan photograph. Steven choked on his drink as he took in the news of Michelle’s pregnancy. He followed Sophia awkwardly as they walked over to congratulate the couple, as Sophia hugged David, Steven caught Michelle’s eye and looked at her suspiciously “Congratulations” He muttered.
*
Naomi sipped her wine as she sat staring blankly at the television screen; she shivered as she heard a noise from outside the house. With Cole out at the pub and Ava spending the night at her friend’s house, Naomi was left alone. She jumped as she heard another noise coming from outside. She pressed the mute button on the television remote and sat frozen to the spot. After a few minutes she shook her head, annoyed at herself for being so jumpy. She opened the front door and looked around the crescent, she noticed an old rag tucked by the wheel of her car, she walked over and picked it up, she was shocked when a heavy object fell from the rag onto the floor, Naomi’s eyes widened as she saw a gun lying on the ground.

CHLOELove the Donovans. I wonder what that Naomi/gun thing is all about? An atmospheric and well-structured episode HANNAH Thank you Chloe:) Keep your eyes peeled where Naomi is concerned, the Donovan stalker is determined to keep messing with her life
LEM Chloe's attack, and aftermath have been handled with incredible care, and I love Lindsay's almost motherly relationship with her. The Donovans are a great soap family, torn between so many dramas, and I cannot wait for Noah to return to the fold, because those scenes will hopefully be explosive. HH is getting stronger by the episode HANNAH Thank you very much Lem, I finally feel that HH is coming back on track and I am glad that it's coming across well. We have been working very hard on both the episodes themselves and storylining for the future and I can promise many explosive scenes (especially where Noah is concerned )
ROSS What a fabulous episode! Definitely an improvement from last time! The Donovans really are a great soap family, Noxy & Lem are right - that cliffhanger with Naomi and the gun was brilliantly done, and I must admit I was nervous for Naomi when there were noises coming from outside! My favourite HH character is definitely Michelle, so it's great to see her at the forefront of the drama! Oh no, Steven's gonna guess that he's the daddy, isn't he! Poor Anthony, will he ever get a break? As much as I'm not too sure on Imogen as a character yet, as she seems very selfish, her scene with David where he opened up about Anthony's feelings for him were very sweet Despite everything that's happened, I think it's lovely that David is still going to see Anthony, and is his best friend in a way, that is very nice to see. The Chloe plot is really tragic, and I am absolutely loving her growing bond with the lovely Lindsay! Really fantastic developments in this episode, well done HANNAH Thank you ever so much for your kind feedback Ross There are so many strands of storylines for the Donovans this season with the stalker and Noah's troubles. So glad you're enjoying Michelle, it could be so easy to feel the opposite considering what she is doing, but I love Michelle and I am glad she has her fans. Jaay has been working extremely hard on the baby lie storyline and we can promise you lots of twists and turns where Michelle/David/Steven are concerned

At the beach, Naomi is sitting staring at the water. Watching the wave’s crash, Naomi is completely lost in her own world. Reaching inside her bag, Naomi pulls out her mobile. Searching through her numbers until she reaches Noah, Naomi then phones her son. Looking down at his phone, Noah Donavon decides not to answer the call. “Why don’t you just answer eh…be the big man…you can walk into a crowded pub and hold them hostage but you can’t answer me…your own mother…I need to talk to you Noah, please, I am begging you…call me please” sobs Naomi before she sees her sister Olivia Kane and her partner Matthew Fitzgerald approaching. “I really think I should go and see her” ponders Olivia, “She hasn't contacted you Liv so she obviously isn't that concerned about you” answers Matthew. Olivia explains that Chloe is her best friend and she does feel guilty for leaving her at the bar. “And she’s going to feed off that guilt, why put yourself through it. Look sweetheart just leave well enough alone eh” concludes Matthew before kissing Olivia and bidding both Olivia and Naomi goodbye. “What’s wrong?” asks Naomi. Olivia explains that she hasn’t been to see Chloe since the night that she left her at the cocktail. “Oh for heavens sake Liv, you're not in the playground now. Go and see her, she's your best friend, I'm sure ye can get over this little tiff.” replies Naomi. Olivia explains that Matthew thought it would be a bad idea. “But you know what you’re right, I will, I’ll go and see her” announces a stern Olivia.
Still at the beach, Naomi and Olivia prepare to leave when they see Siobhan making her towards to the beach. Crying loudly, Siobhan can barely contain her emotion. Looking at the girls, Siobhan turns away but Naomi and Olivia rush over to her. “Oh my God Siobhan, what’s wrong?” asks a concerned Olivia, “It’s not Anthony is it?” begs Naomi. Siobhan tells them that everything is fine, she’s just being silly. “I don’t understand…why…why he would pick her over me” sobs Siobhan, “Have I not been a good Mum, where did I go wrong?” begs Siobhan. As Olivia and Naomi ask Siobhan what’s happened, Siobhan explains that Anthony has asked to live with his biological mother Imogen. “I can't believe this Siob” barks Naomi, “After everything you’ve done for him…and her, who the hell does she think she is…swanning back in after how many years” slams Naomi. Siobhan then begins to sob as she tells the girls that she doesn’t know what to do. Arriving at the beach car park, Josh jumps out of his car and rushes to view the beach. He sees Siobhan and makes a dash for her but is distracted when he sees Vicki with Kyle. “Oh crap” begins Vicki as Josh makes his way towards her.

Back at Heather’s office, Lindsay explains to Heather that she wants a quick amicable divorce, she won’t be contesting anything. Heather then asks Lindsay if there is anything that can be done to save the marriage, maybe some marriage counselling. “It won’t help, I can’t be in this, that marriage anymore. It’s not that I don’t love Daniel, I’ll always love him, he’s the father of my child…but it’s the fact that I can’t have any more children that I can’t be with him. He stole my chance of another child and I can’t forgive that” reveals Lindsay as silent tears fall from her eyes. Rubbing her wedding ring, Lindsay stares down at it. Cutting to Daniel in their martial lounge, he too is looking at his wedding band. Trying to take it off, Daniel stops and puts his ring back on.

At Canvey Island Comp, Michelle is chatting to Ava about her troubles. Michelle explains that the siege is still very fresh in people’s minds especially now since Noah’s involvement has been exposed but she then promises Ava that things will calm down. “Just hold your head high and ignore the small minded comments” says Michelle before Ava makes her way out of the school. After Ava has gone out of sight, Steven approaches Michelle. “We need to talk” begins Steven. “Good, we do. So I take it you’re willing to volunteer for the annual Christmas Panto” answers Michelle. Steven explains that he just wants to congratulate Michelle and David on their good news provided its’ their good news and not someone else’s. “Meaning?” asks a forceful Michelle, “Meaning…are you carrying my child?” demands Steven. “Don’t you think if I was carrying your child that you’d know? I loved you Steven, I would have given anything to but no to answer your question, this child isn’t yours, it’s David’s. So thank you for your congratulations, we’re both extremely pleased” replies Michelle before rushing to her car and taking a huge sigh of relief before beginning to cry. Looking on, Ava is both shocked and confused by what she has witnessed.

Faradays Restaurant is a hive of activity as Sophia Faraday tries to cope with the huge amount of evening diners. “Can you please deal with table 7?” slams Sophia as new waitress Tina struggles to cope. As Tina begins to sob, Sophia throws her eyes to heaven. “Oh please, please no tears…anything but tears…okay take 5, I’ll deal with it” sighs Sophia as she heads for table 7. As the diner reveals that his steak was raw, Sophia tells him that he ordered it that way. “Sweetheart I ordered it rare, not still mooing” slams the gentleman, “I’m sorry about that Sir, I didn’t realize you were a vet, I’ll go and get you a new one” barks Sophia before slamming the plate on the counter. “Everything okay darling?” asks Duncan. “Does everything look okay Duncan…forget it, just forget it” says Sophia as she makes her way into the kitchen. Out in the dining area, Imogen and son Anthony are enjoying a meal. “This is nice isn’t it” smiles Imogen before Anthony brings up how hurt Siobhan looked earlier. “Look she’ll get over it, she doesn’t know you like I do, I’m your Mum, you gotta live with your Mum” responds Imogen. “You didn’t have to blackmail me to do it though” snaps Anthony. “Blackmail…you are watching far too much Hollyoaks. I didn’t blackmail you son, I just explained your options. I get it, David’s a nice boy, I could fall for him myself but I can help Anthony, I want to help and to do that I need to be close” gently says Imogen as she holds Anthony's hand. As they begin to eat, Siobhan and Josh arrive in the restaurant. “Imogen, please let me speak” begins Siobhan as Imogen announces she doesn’t want another fight. “I would very much like it if you and Anthony moved back in with me, you are more than welcome in my home” smiles Siobhan as she looks at Anthony. Imogen then stands up and gleefully accepts Siobhan’s offer. Siobhan then pulls Imogen into a hug. “Always keep your friends close but the peroxide bitch trying to steal your son closer” whispers Siobhan before asking what’s for dessert.

Finally arriving at Chloe Charles’ flat, Olivia apprehensively waits. Sitting in her car, Olivia looks up to the window of Chloe’s apartment. Chloe then appears in the window and after looking around, closes the curtains and retreats into her safe haven. Olivia then steps out of the car and walks towards the door. Her phone begins to ring. It’s Matthew. Olivia chooses to ignore the call. Pressing Chloe’s buzzer, Olivia waits as Chloe picks up. “It’s Olivia, can I come in please?” asks Olivia gently. The door opens but Chloe doesn’t say anything. Walking up the stairs, Olivia approaches Chloe’s door. Knocking on the door, Olivia waits for Chloe to answer. “Olivia, come in” blankly says Chloe before Olivia walks into the lounge. “Can I get you a cup of tea? Coffee?” asks Chloe but Olivia replies that she's fine. “So what can I do for you?” pushes Chloe as she begins to fold some clothes. “I know I should over sooner but I didn't know what to say, I'm sorry” begins Olivia, “I didn't know if you'd want to see me. Matthew told me that you'd be fine, you were enjoying yourself so I thought you'd hardly pull with me hanging around you like a mother superior”. “I don't want to talk about it, so apology accepted, is that everything?” responds Chloe as she continues to fold her clothes. Olivia then starts chatting randomly about her and Matthew before gossiping about Imogen Sandford’s return and how Siobhan is in an awful state over. “You know what babe I think I'll have that tea actually” says Olivia as she begins flicking through a magazine. Chloe almost as if she hasn't heard Olivia, continues to fold her clothes. Olivia continues to chat about all the gossip on Canvey Island. Finally, snapping Chloe throws her folded clothes on the ground. “Can you hear yourself? Can you heard what crap you are talking about?” snaps Chloe as Olivia reels from her outburst, “Gossip is that it, is that all you can talk about...you left me that night, did you get my calls?” demands Chloe as Olivia reveals that she did. “What's all this about Chloe?” gently asks Olivia as she holds her hand out to her friend. “Get away from me. I phoned you, I called you Liv. You didn't answer, why didn't you answer?” begs Chloe as she fights back the tears forming in her eyes, “I needed you, my best friend, I needed you and you weren't there” sternly announces Chloe, “I was raped that night” confesses Chloe. Olivia immediately walks towards Chloe and hugs her. As Chloe seeks comfort from her friend, tears begin to fall from Olivia's eyes. In the background, police sirens can heard before Olivia tells Chloe that she'll be there for her now.

APPLECOBBLERWhile there remains a scope and diversity to the storylines in the project, a few recent instalments - this one particularly - have exhibited little emotional subtlety and this can often undermine the impact of a scene. Furthermore, a lot of the episode felt purely plot and storyline based, meaning that the characters themselves became secondary in places, and dialogue also remains an issue. I'm sorry to be so critical, as HH is a project with genuine potential and I hope these flaws can be ironed out JOE Thats a pity that you feel that way AC but there is no need to apologize for it, Hannah and I take all the critiques very seriously and going on their merit we try and fix the show accordingly. High Hopes is a great project and I think with the backing of the forum, Hannah and I can make it better than it already is. It is a very different soap to all the other soaps on here so I think that's why from time to time it will always differ both in tone, approach and execution. But overall we're happy with the soap and are confident all these little issues can be sorted!! The storylines, mix of characters and locations make HH unique so I hope that this comes across. Thanks again and keep watching!! X CHLOEI'm a little confused as to why Anthony would just suddenly decide to want to live with Imogen, without any real insight as to why. 'Coz I'm your Mum, you gotta live with your Mum' seemed a weak explanation. The last two scenes were excellent, and I'm liking that Siobhan is coming out fighting over Anthony JOE Hey Chloe, if you remember in a previous episode, Imogen noticed that Anthony had feelings towards David. She then spoke to Anthony about this by saying she understood him and that she'd fall for David herself. In a non verbal motion Imogen more or less said to Anthony I'll keep your secret because Im your Mum, and you need to stick by your Mum! I hope this clears things up slightly! And thank you for your feedback!

2x09: 'The word grounded doesn't even cut it' | Written by Hannah | Episode Twenty Nine Naomi Donovan shivered as she pulled the grey blanket tighter around her shoulders, her body hadn’t stopped shaking from the moment Detective Sgt Michael Connor guided her into the prison custody the previous night, she closed her eyes tightly trying to imagine being back in her warm bed, her husband Cole lying next to her. But Naomi wasn’t safe in her home; she had spent the night at Canvey Island police station after being arrested for perverting the course of justice and possession of a fire arm.

At the Spencer household, Siobhan Spencer laid the breakfast table, she sighed glumly as she laid an extra place for stepson Anthony’s biological mother Imogen Sandford. Siobhan had been disappointed when Anthony had admitted that he wanted to get to know his mother better and wanted to stay with her after his release from hospital, as a compromise Siobhan had offered Imogen a place to stay in attempt to stay close to Anthony. Siobhan plastered on a smile as Anthony and her twelve year old daughter Emily came downstairs, Emily was already dressed in her school uniform “Morning sweethearts” Siobhan smiled as they both sat down. Emily frowned as Imogen walked into the kitchen wearing a short silk dressing gown; she sat at the table and waited for Siobhan to bring over the fry up breakfast she had been cooking. Siobhan placed a plate in front of Emily and the other plate in front of Anthony. “The frying pans still hot and there’s bacon in the fridge” Siobhan said coldly to Imogen before excusing herself.

It was cold as Mia Faraday walked to school with her best friend Vicki Connor, the girls walked close together to keep the warmth between them. However, as Vicki’s boyfriend Kyle Campbell approached the girls, Vicki pulled away from Mia and fell into Kyle. She kissed him passionately causing Mia to blush at the public display of affection; she shifted on her feet awkwardly until Vicki finally pulled herself away from Kyle “Babes, I’ve got something for you” Kyle teased and opened his bag to show the girls “Vodka, you know me too well” Vicki beamed. “Fancy it Mya?” Kyle asked. Mia frowned “It’s Mia actually, no thanks” She answered. Vicki rolled her eyes “Good girls don’t know how to have fun” Vicki said nastily, she pulled Kyle back towards Canvey Crescent “Cover for me in registration” She barked at Mia. Mia didn’t answer, she began walking to school alone. Vicki pulled Kyle into a kiss and laughed “Looks like it’s just me and you.”

Chloe Charles stared at her reflection in the bedroom mirror, the bruises on the side of her face had finally began to fade, she lightly touched the marks and closed her eyes in distress as memories of the brutal attack haunted her. She jumped as the buzzer to the flat made an alarming sound in the dead silent flat; she walked briskly over to the window and looked down at the ground below. PC Harry Campbell was stood on the doorstep in his uniform. Instead of allowing Harry access into the building, Chloe walked downstairs and opened the front door; she glanced outside and was relieved to see Duncan Faraday knelt down in his front garden tending to his roses. Chloe took a deep breath and tried to smile at Harry “I’m sorry, I would invite you in, but the flat is such a mess” She lied, not wanting to admit that she felt uncomfortable to be alone with a man. Harry asked how Chloe was coping and eventually admitted the real reason why he was there. “We’ve arrested a suspect Chloe and I need to ask if you would be willing to help with an ID parade” Chloe felt physically sick, she stepped back and clung onto the side of the door frame, Harry instinctively reached out towards her but Chloe recoiled in fear “I’m sorry Chloe, I didn’t mean to…” Harry apologised. Chloe shook her head “No I’m sorry, I feel like a child who’s scared of the dark” Harry smiled sympathetically “You don’t need to apologise for anything Chloe” Harry then changed the subject and explained how the ID parade would work. Chloe had doubts “I didn’t see his face, I had my eyes closed the whole time, how am I supposed to know if it’s him?” Harry nodded, understanding Chloe’s worry “You said in your statement that he spoke during the attack, you may be able to recognise his voice. You can do this Chloe, I have faith in you.”

Michael placed a cup of coffee on the desk in front of Naomi, he pressed record on the interview tape and then sat down opposite her “I’ve heard back from forensics, the gun matches the ones used in the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe pub and it has your son’s fingerprints all over it” Naomi dropped her head in her hands “I didn’t know” She whispered. Michael raised an eyebrow “You didn’t know that the gun you were disposing of was the one used by your son in an armed robbery” Naomi shook her head “Noah didn’t shoot anyone, it was the Thompsons who shot my daughter and Lindsay Hastings” Michael shrugged “He was still there Naomi, he still held a gun. He may not have pulled the trigger, but in my book he’s just as guilty as Tommy and Adam Thompson.”
At Faradays restaurant, Josh Connor stood waiting at the bar for his girlfriend Siobhan to sit down for her break, but the busy lunchtime rush meant that he had been waiting for over an hour. Manager Sophia Faraday poured Josh another drink “You look like you could do with one” She smiled. Josh thanked her and after another ten minutes Siobhan finally made an appearance. She sat down with Josh at a table and ate the salad prepared for her by the chef. Josh began to explain to Siobhan how he saw his sister Vicki at the beach the previous day “She’s hanging around with that Essex wannabe, I don’t like it Shive, Vicki’s easily influenced” Siobhan swallowed her food “I’m not being funny Josh, but your sister is the last person I want to talk about right now” Josh nodded, wondering when the bitterness between Siobhan and his younger sister would fade. He sighed as he changed the subject “I was thinking we could catch a film in Portsmouth tonight” Josh suggested. “I can’t tonight, I have to drop Emily off at ballet and then take Anthony to his counselling session” Siobhan explained. Josh sighed “Can’t you ask your mum?” Siobhan shook her head “No, she’s working late tonight and I want to go with Anthony for his first session, I know I won’t be in there with him, but I want him to know that I’m here for him” Josh shrugged “I guess that’s fair enough” Siobhan reached across the table and touched his arm “There’ll be plenty more nights.”

In Vicki’s bedroom, Vicki and Kyle were drunkenly dancing to the latest song from Robin Thicke, they giggled as they fell on top of each other. The couple began kissing and things soon became more and more heated as Vicki removed Kyle’s clothes “Vicki, I’ve told you before, turn that music…” Vicki’s mother Heather burst through the door, but she was left speechless at the sight of her fifteen year old daughter drunk and barely clothed. Heather shook her head in anger “Get your hands off my daughter!” Heather picked up Kyle’s shirt from the floor and threw it furiously at him. Vicki shouted at her mother to stop embarrassing her, but Heather was fuming as she noticed the almost empty bottle of vodka lying on the floor. “I’ll see you later Vic” Kyle laughed cockily. “I wouldn’t bet on it” Heather glared at him as he walked out the door. “The word grounded doesn’t even cut it” Heather barked as she slammed the bedroom door.
*
Chloe was shaking as Harry led her into the room at the Canvey Island Police Station, he asked her to look through the one way window, Chloe felt the sickness in the pit of her stomach as she stared at the five men involved in the ID parade, one at a time, each one spoke. Chloe closed her eyes tight, trying to put herself back into that memory, trying to recognise the voice of her attacker. “I can’t” Chloe cried and shook her head “They all sound the same” Chloe stepped backwards and looked away “I don’t recognise any of them, I’m sorry” She sat down slowly on a chair and let her head fall into her hands in frustration “I promise you Chloe, I’m doing everything I can to get the person that did this to you” Harry reassured. He looked through the one way window at the five men lined up; he focused on the middle one, the one he suspected of attacking Chloe. He frowned in disgust and quickly looked away.
*
Siobhan pulled up outside the Spencer house, she smiled at her daughter Emily who looked tired after her ballet lesson, as Siobhan opened the car door, she noticed Emily’s hesitation. “Are you ok sweetheart?” Emily nodded, but quickly changed her mind and shook her head “How long is she staying here?” Siobhan didn’t even need to ask who Emily was referring to “You’re not a fan of Imogen then?” Emily shrugged. Siobhan brushed a strand of hair away from Emily’s eyes “She wants to spend time with Anthony and I won’t stand in the way of that” Siobhan explained. “But why does she have to do it in our house?” Siobhan looked over at the house “It’s something we have to do for Anthony’s sake, he needs our support” Emily looked away from Siobhan “He didn’t want it before when he…” Emily stopped and twisted her lips to stop herself from crying “I know the last few months have been really hard on you sweetheart, you’ve been through so much for someone so young. You know you can talk to me about anything, I never want you to feel alone” Emily nodded. “I love you mum” Siobhan smiled and pulled Emily closer to her and kissed her on the head “I love you too.”
*
Michael walked Naomi out of the station where Cole was waiting in the car “Do you understand how lucky you are Naomi? I could have charged you for perverting the course of justice as well as possession of a firearm, I’m letting you off with a caution, but next time I won’t be so lenient” Michael warned. Naomi nodded, but didn’t say a word. “If Noah gets in contact, you have a duty to report it” Michael turned to walk back into the station “And what about my duty to my son?” Naomi muttered, not looking back at Michael as she walked towards the car. Naomi got into the car and slammed the door shut, she then burst into tears “Please take me home Cole” Naomi pleaded. “Where the hell did that gun come from Naomi?” Cole questioned. Naomi screwed her face up “I can’t do this now Cole, you have no idea what I’ve been through” Cole scoffed “Spending the night locked up in a cell, yes Naomi, I have no idea what you’ve been through.”
*
A montage begins as Siobhan and Emily awkwardly join Imogen and Anthony in the living room, while the Connor family silently watched the latest James Bond film, Heather rested her head on husband Michael’s shoulder and sons Josh and Jake sat next to each other on the opposite sofa, Vicki stopped outside the living room door, she caught Heather’s eye and glared. Instead of joining her family, Vicki walked back up to her bedroom and sent her boyfriend Kyle a text. At the Donovans, Cole stood at his bedroom door, he watched as Naomi slept peacefully, after a few minutes he joined her. Meanwhile at Chloe’s flat, Chloe was getting ready for bed, she walked over to the front door and made sure it was locked, she then bolted the door at the bottom and shakily pulled the chain across; however, she still didn’t feel safe.

CHLOEChloe's storyline for me was the standout story today, and was really well told I'm not entirely convinced Naomi would merely get a caution for possession of a firearm, though - the police take that kind of thing very seriously. Emily seems a little immature for 12 if I'm being honest, although I like how she's very much #TeamSiobhan over Imogen's unwelcome presence. I do feel High Hopes would benefit from a little humour here and there, as it is feeling quite heavy going at the moment. I hope we'll be seeing something of the runaways soon as they've been gone for ages!

2x10: 'Well don't just stand there. Lift your feet and bring in me cases' | Written by Joe | Episode Thirty It's a cold, wet and windy day on Canvey Island as wave’s crash onto the shore. Looking out at the beach from his apartment above The Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel Hastings is drinking a cup of coffee. Lindsay's voice can be heard, “You know too much coffee is bad for you.” “I know” answers Daniel but as he turns around, he's alone in his apartment. Lindsay isn't there anymore.
*
Meanwhile, a black cab pulls up on the main street of Canvey Island. The door of the cab swings open. Out steps a glamorous older woman who instantly shields herself from the rain. “Business or pleasure?” asks the cabbie, “Neither of which I believe are any of your concern” replies the woman. The cabbie then takes out the woman's suitcases and planks them beside. “Be careful” demands the woman as the cabbie rolls his eyes to heaven. “You wouldn't be treated like this in Dublin” smacks the woman. “Well you ain't in Dublin now darling” “Ain't that the truth.”
*
“Watch it” snaps a shocked looking Megan Donovan as a passer-by knocks her cup. Picking up the change she had collected, Megan begins to cough. As she sits back down, Noah makes his way over to her. “Everything okay babes?” asks Noah, “How is this okay Noah, nothing about this is okay” barks Megan as she begins to cough again. Noah then tells Megan that maybe she should go to see the doctor about that cough. “With what...we've no money.” Noah then sits beside Megan and puts his arm around her. “I love you...you know that don't you” whispers Noah. “It's all that keeps me babe” replies an exhausted and ill Megan.
*
Back at The Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel is getting the bar ready for the day when a courier arrives. “Daniel Hastings?” asks the courier. Daniel nods, that is he. “Can you sign here mate?” After Daniel has obliged, he opens the envelope. Looking back him are his divorce papers from Lindsay. Standing back from the papers laying them on the bar top, Daniel looks completely shattered.
*
Making her way down the street with her suitcases, the woman from the taxi is nearly throttled by a running Kyle Campbell. “Watch it doll” shouts Kyle. But as Kyle pushes past her, the woman grabs him by the ear. “I ain't your doll” snaps the woman “Now pick up that suitcase” demands the woman. Kyle however just laughs at her and pushes away from her. “You've got spunk, I'll give you that” jokes Kyle. “And I'll give you a thick lip unless you pick up that suitcase” replies the woman. As Kyle picks up the suitcase, Kayla Macey and Molly Campbell arrive on the scene. “What have you done now eh?” asks Kayla crossly. “Oh I've always have to have done something wrong yea...I couldn't be just helping this sweet old lady with her cases” sarcastically responds Kyle. Kayla throws her eyes to heaven as the woman laughs. “I knew you were a bad'un, I've an eye for it.” “I'm so sorry about this” softly says Kayla before beckoning Kyle and Molly to walk on.

Over at Faradays Restaurant, Sophia Faraday is writing the menu's for the lunch time and evening sittings. As she puts the finishing touches to them, Cole Donavan arrives. “Very artistic, your talents are wasted Sophia” jokes Cole. As Sophia surveys her masterpiece, she laughs. “I totally agree Cole” laughs Sophia. Cole then sits at the bar in the restaurant where he looks at the menu. Sophia then asks him how Naomi is after her night in the cells. “Yeah, she's okay. I mean it's hard with Noah having run off” confides Cole. “Any word from him yet?” asks Sophia. Cole confirms that there is still no word from him or Megan. Sophia comforts Cole by telling him that Noah will eventually get in touch. “It's not only that Soph; I mean Na was really lucky to get off. I mean Michael had to pull some strings for charges not to be made” confesses Cole revealing that Naomi was lucky to get off with a caution after trying to pervert the course of justice and possession of a fire arm.
*
Finally arriving at her destination, the woman with the suitcases knocks at the door of the flat she is standing outside. Turning her back to the door, the woman looks out at the town of Canvey Island. Taking in the view of the beach, she breathes in heavily. As the door opens, she turns and smiles. “Well don't just stand there. Lift your feet and bring in me cases” demands the woman as a stunned David Fields looks on. “Ma?”
Making her way inside her son's home, Eileen Fields has a good look around. Running her fingers along the surfaces, Eileen comments to David about the dust. As she enters the kitchen, there are dishes stacked in the sink and the table is untidy. “Not house proud your new lady then” snipes Eileen. “Ma what are you doing here?” asks a surprised David having had no knowledge Eileen was coming. “Well isn't that a fine welcome from my own son. Can't a mother visit her son...I mean if I was waiting for an invite, I'd probably be dead and buried” announces Eileen. David then explains that it's just a surprise that's all. He or Michelle weren't expecting her. “Well come on then, give your old Ma a kiss” smiles Eileen. As David gives his ‘Ma’ a kiss on the cheek, the front door opens. However, as Michelle walks in, she trips over the suitcases. “Ouch...David why have you left these stupid things lying around” snaps Michelle before reeling as David walks from the kitchen with his mother in tow. “Michelle I'd like you to meet my mother, Eileen”. “Eileen, hello, I'm Michelle. Sorry about that, I just...am...I nearly tripped” stammers Michelle. “Mrs Fields will do for now...and we better move these stupid things...I really would hate for you to trip after all” sternly speaks Eileen leaving Michelle forlorn.
*
At the Faraday home, Lindsay Hastings is sitting at the kitchen table. Having also opened her divorce papers, Lindsay is sat staring at them. As she goes to pick up the biro lying beside them, the door goes. “Only me darling” shouts Lindsay's father Duncan Faraday. While Duncan makes his way into the kitchen, he's chatting about what he's planned for dinner. Lindsay however doesn't say a word. Duncan then tells Lindsay that Naomi Donavon got off with a caution. “Lucky girl, I mean you'd think the police would have...” Duncan stops in his tracks as he sees Lindsay's crying at the table. “Sweetheart what's wrong...it's not Megan is it?” a concerned Duncan asks. Lindsey nods her head before handing her father the divorce papers. “Oh darling, oh my poor girl, come here”. Duncan then hugs his daughter as she sobs into his shoulder.
*
Back at The Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel is standing in his kitchen. Looking around Daniel makes his way into the lounge. Once in the lounge, Daniel looks at the photos on the fireplace. Picking up his and Lindsay's wedding photo, Daniel smiles before turning away from it.
*
On the street, Megan is still sitting with her cup. “Can you spare some change please” coughs Megan. As a passing woman throws some change into the cup, Megan thanks her. Putting the change immediately into her pocket so that she doesn't lose any of it. While Megan begins to cough again, she fails to notice that another homeless person has kicked her cup. “Oi, what do you think you're doing” demands an ill Megan. “This is my spot...now go on, piss off” slams the man. Megan tells him, that she wasn't aware people could own the pavement and that she isn't moving. “Oh you're moving darling, one way or another”. “You've been listening to too much One Direction mate” laughs Megan before coughing again. The man then bends down and whispers into Megan's ear. “Do you sleep soundly at night?” he menaces, “You what” replies a fearful Megan, “I'd sleep with one eye open or I'd just move...easy decision really”. Megan then stands up and fronts the man. “You don't scare me”. “Well then you're more of a fool than I thought you were” says the man before he slams Megan against the wall. As Megan screams, he puts his hand over her mouth. Megan struggles as the man pushes himself against. “You gonna go now darling...you get me” whispers the man as Megan nods in agreement. Grabbing her stuff after being freed by him, Megan runs off.
*
Making his way out of Faradays Restaurant, Cole bids Sophia goodbye. As Sophia salutes him back, she suddenly follows him outside. “Cole...Cole, wait” calls Sophia as she catches up to him. Cole then asks Sophia if everything is okay. “I did pay if that's what's wrong” jokes Cole. “No it's not that. You're not working at the moment are you?”. “Kick a man while he's down why don't ya” replies Cole. Sophia then explains she didn't mean it as an insult. She tells that what he said earlier got her thinking. “You know you're right, my talents are wasting here...I wonder...well I've been thinking now for quite a while about leaving here...the restaurant that is” begins Sophia before telling Cole that she's thinking about opening an nightclub. “Bit of a career change don't ya think?” reasons Cole, “A club is a lot different to a restaurant, completely different customers and a completely different set of problems”. “I understand all that...and it's clear to me that you do too” replies Sophia. Sophia then asks Cole if he’d consider going into business with her, in opening a nightclub. Cole taken aback by her request reminds her that he is a convicted murderer. “Well we'll obviously put you on the door then, I'm sure no one will mess with convicted murderer” jokes Sophia before telling Cole that she thinks everyone deserves a second chance and maybe this is his.

Meanwhile back at the Field/Fox home, Michelle is preparing dinner for her, David and his newly arrived mother Eileen. “Oh you're boiling the spuds are you...David likes them steamed” offers Eileen as she stands beside Michelle in the kitchen. Michelle through gritted teeth thanks Eileen for her insight but David eats them both ways. David then arrives in the kitchen and sensing the tension asks his mother to join him in the lounge. “Try not burn anything darling, I’m starved” snipes Eileen as she follows David. “Ma, I need to talk to you. I need...I need to tell...” stammers David. “Oh dear lord David, she's pregnant isn't she?” As David confirms her suspicions, Eileen reels in shock.

Closing time at the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel is busy cleaning the bar. “Alright mate, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here” announces Daniel as he ushers the final customer to the door. As the customer leaves, Daniel is surprised as Lindsay asks to come inside. “Of course yea...come in”. Picking up some glasses, Lindsay makes her way to the bar. Placing the glasses on the bar, Lindsay smiles as Daniel begins to wash them behind the counter. “Feels so natural...so normal...Did you get the letter...” begins Lindsay before Daniel nods to agree that he did receive the divorce papers. “Have you signed them?” asks Lindsay. “Not yet”. Lindsay then tells Daniel that she hasn't signed her's either. She then puts her papers up on the bar. “It's all so real...I mean we sign these and it means all we ever had is gone...It's gone Linds” reasons Daniel. Lindsay then tells Daniel that she'll always love him, “Then why the divorce Lindsay...I love you, I still love you” begs Daniel. “It was never about not loving you Daniel. Please believe that. This was always about that fact that I didn't want to hate you, I didn't want to blame you” tears Lindsay. “I didn't have a choice Lindsay...I wasn't given a choice” shouts Daniel. Lindsay tells Daniel that she understands that but she can't forgive him. “I'm so sorry Daniel but I can't...I'll never get past this, I'll never get past the fact that I can't have kids again and I can't separate the fact that you were involved in that decision”. Lindsay turns away from Daniel. Daniel however says nothing. Making his way to the end of the bar, he picks up his papers and places them next to Lindsay’s. “Well then this is it I guess” begins Daniel as he pours two Brandy’s, “I can't fight what I can't see, I'll always love you but I don't want to fight you anymore, so let’s do this” says Daniel. Both Daniel and Lindsay then take their drinks and finish them in one gulp, put the glasses down and sign the papers.

2x11: 'One mother is enough trouble, I don't envy you having to juggle two' | Written by Hannah | Episode Thirty One It was lunchtime as Chloe Charles approached the Crown and Horseshoe pub, it was her first day back at work since her brutal attack a few weeks previously and Chloe was already having doubts about her decision to return to work. Chloe shook her hands and stretched out her fingers in preparation “You can do this Chloe” She reassured herself, she took a deep breath and walked towards the doors. She looked around the quiet pub; she smiled as she noticed familiar faces. Katherine Lavery was sharing lunch with her daughter Siobhan Spencer, Siobhan waved to Chloe as she walked past. Chloe smiled politely and approached the bar “Chloe” Her boss and friend Lindsay Hastings looked pleased to see her “Welcome back honey, are you sure you’re ok to do this?” Chloe nodded “I can’t hide away forever” Lindsay gave Chloe a supportive squeeze on the shoulder “I’m proud of you.” Lindsay left Chloe to reacquaint herself with the bar and approached her estranged husband who was sat at the end of the bar reading a newspaper “How are you doing?” She asked apprehensively. Daniel shrugged “Still trying to come to terms with my marriage officially ending” Lindsay looked down at her hands awkwardly “Well, it’s not official yet, we’ve only just signed the papers” Daniel returned to his paper, Lindsay began to walk away, but paused “I don’t want to lose you Daniel, I still want us to be friends. We have to support each other while we find Megan” Daniel shook his head and stood up “This was your choice Linds, you wanted a divorce and now I’ve given you one, please let me deal with this before you try pushing friendship onto me” Daniel walked away leaving Lindsay feeling guilty.

At the garage, David Fields was showing his apprentice Anthony Spencer how to service a motorbike, as they chatted about how Anthony’s counselling was going. Their conversation was interrupted by the appearance of Anthony’s biological mother Imogen Sandford, who was carrying a plastic lunchbox “I brought you over some lunch” Imogen smiled. Anthony blushed “Thanks, but Siobhan already made my lunch this morning” Imogen’s smile faded “Oh right. What about dinner? Have you any plans?” Anthony hesitated “Well, Siobhan’s planning a family dinner. Emily passed her ballet exam and she wants to celebrate” Imogen frowned “I’m guessing I’m not invited then” Anthony sighed realising that he had put his foot in it “I suppose she won’t mind if you’re there, you do live there too” Imogen cheered up and promised to be on her best behaviour. As she left, David couldn’t help but laugh “One mother is enough trouble, I don’t envy you having to juggle two.”

Married couple Megan and Noah Donovan walked the streets of Carlisle, Megan clutched hold of Noah’s hand as she coughed violently “You sound terrible babe, we should try and get you in to see a doctor” Megan shook her head “I’ll be fine Noah, it’s just a little cough” Megan held her throat as she spoke, it was sore and it felt like it was being constantly scratched by a kitten. She closed her eyes as she thought back to her encounter a few days previously, the man’s face full of hatred. The reality to life on the street was beginning to hit Megan, but she didn’t want her husband to know how much she was struggling.
*
Olivia Kane and her boyfriend Matthew Fitzgerald entered the Crown and Horseshoe after a long day at work, Olivia looked surprised to see her best friend Chloe stood behind the bar “I didn’t realise you were back at work” She remarked as Matthew found them a table “I’m doing ok Liv, I need to start moving on with my life” Chloe reassured her friend “As long as you’re ready for this” As the girls chatted, Kayla Macey arrived with her foster children Kyle and Molly Campbell, Kayla smiled at the girls as they walked past to sit at a table. Olivia re-joined Matthew and grabbed hold of a menu “What’s up with Chloe? I heard you say something about her being back at work” Olivia didn’t look up as she scanned the menu “She had that awful stomach flu that’s been going around, but she looks so much better than she did the other day” Olivia felt a pang of guilt for lying to Matthew, but Olivia had promised Chloe that she would keep her attack a secret.
*
At the Spencer household, Siobhan kissed her partner Josh Connor as he walked in with a ballet shoe cake “That’s beautiful Josh, Emily is going to love it” Siobhan beamed as she placed the cake on the counter. “Don’t you think it’s all a bit much?” Josh broached apprehensively “Emily’s a bit old for all this fuss” Siobhan frowned “This family needs something to celebrate and maybe a ballet exam doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it is to me” Josh pulled Siobhan close to him and kissed her on the head “A good old family dinner it is then” Josh smiled, already imagining the awkwardness of the Spencer family combining with the Connors.
*
Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay watched Chloe’s interactions with the customers; she seemed to be at ease which pleased Lindsay. Lindsay smiled as Heather Connor approached the bar, they exchanged their usual pleasantries and then Heather admitted the real reason for her visit “I’ve filed for the decree nisi Lindsay, it shouldn’t be long” Lindsay thanked her friend. “It feels strange; twenty years of marriage over with a quick signature” Lindsay spoke sadly “Enough feeling sorry for myself, are you staying for a drink?” Heather shook her head and looked over at Kyle and Molly playing pool “I can’t I’m afraid, I just need a quick word with Kayla and then I have dinner at the Spencers” Lindsay raised an eyebrow “Josh is certainly settling into family life then?” Heather shrugged “The more I object to Josh’s relationship with Siobhan, the more attractive she is to him. I know my son, he’ll get bored of domestic life sooner or later” Heather said goodbye to Lindsay and walked over to where Kayla was sat. “I think we need a word” Heather said sternly, looking over in Kyle’s direction. “My daughter is fifteen years old and I don’t appreciate her being led astray” Kayla took offense to Heather’s abruptness “Excuse me” Kayla frowned “I admit that Kyle is a bit rough around the edges, but he’s a good kid at heart” Heather scoffed “I don’t think supplying my little girl with alcohol and getting her into bed is a good advertisement for son of the year over there” Kayla shook her head in annoyance “It takes two to tango love” Heather began to walk away “Just keep your stray away from my daughter.” She retorted fiercely.
Eileen Fields counted her change as she walked out of the Last Minute Supermarket, she shook her head when she realised the money in her hand wasn’t right. “S’cuse me love, I gave you a tenner” She barked at manager Katherine Lavery, Katherine glared at the brash appearance of the woman “I think you’ll find you gave me a five pound note” Eileen smacked the change on the counter “Are you calling me a liar?” Eileen’s loud voice echoed through the small shop into the office where owner Duncan Faraday had been going through the accounts, he approached the arguing ladies to check everything was ok. “Oh good, the boss is here” Eileen barked “Do I look like one of those ASBO grannies who tries it on in the local corner shop?” Duncan stared open mouthed “Well…” Eileen cut him off as he began to speak “Exactly, thank you” Eileen looked back at Katherine expectantly. Katherine looked at Duncan for support “Katherine give the lady her change” Duncan walked over to wine shelf and pulled down a bottle of red “Apologies for the mix up, please accept this bottle on me” Eileen took the bottle of wine graciously “Thank you, I may call on you to share it with me later on” As Eileen exited the shop, Katherine was unimpressed as she noticed Duncan staring after her “Sometimes Duncan, the customer isn’t always right.”
*
At the Spencer house, Siobhan was putting the final touches to the dining table as her daughter Emily walked in “You’re so embarrassing mum, why are you making such a big deal about this?” Emily questioned. Siobhan squeezed Emily’s cheeks affectionately “Because I’m so proud of you sweetheart” The sound of the doorbell interrupted them, Siobhan opened the door to Heather, Michael and Jake “No Vicki?” Siobhan asked. “She’s grounded” Michael explained. The Connors followed Siobhan into the dining room where Josh and Anthony were now sat at the table, Michael handed Siobhan a bottle of wine and took a seat next to his oldest son. “Well done Emily for passing your exam” Heather smiled politely. “Thanks” Emily muttered sitting next to Jake. “Mum got me the Sims for the Xbox, fancy playing after dinner?” Jake nodded “Sure” He agreed. As Siobhan dished out the food, conversation flowed around the dinner table, but as she finally sat down, they were interrupted by Imogen’s appearance “I see you started without me” She observed “I brought dessert” Siobhan stood up defensively “Dessert’s been sorted thanks” She said coldly “I thought you were out tonight” Imogen took a seat next to Heather “Anthony told me we were having a family dinner, I am his mother after all” Imogen answered sharply “Nice to see you again Heather, it’s been a long time. We should catch up” Heather glared at Imogen, while Siobhan exhaled deeply, trying to not to show Imogen how wound up she was.
*
Chloe looked at her watch; she was ten minutes away from the end of her shift. She smiled in relief, proud that she had almost made it through her first day. As she collected glasses, she noticed Kyle staring at her as he sat with Molly and Kayla. As Molly and Kayla became embroiled in their discussion about the latest episode of Emmerdale, Kyle stood up and walked over to Chloe “Need a hand gorgeous?” Chloe looked at Kyle in amusement “Sorry, I think it’s against the law to put schoolboys to work” Kyle laughed and leaned in close to Chloe “I’m no boy, believe me” He leered. Chloe pushed Kyle away angrily and stepped backwards crashing into a table, sending all the glasses to the floor. Lindsay and Olivia both rushed towards Chloe “I’m fine” She muttered shakily. Kayla looked at Kyle in confusion “I was trying to help” Kyle protested. As Kayla left the pub with the twins, Lindsay told Chloe she could go home “It’s been a long day honey, go home and relax” Olivia explained to boyfriend Matthew that she was going to walk Chloe home “Chloe’s a big girl, surely she can walk herself home” Olivia got annoyed “Chloe is my friend and I am going to walk her home. I’ll see you later” Olivia answered defiantly.
*
As the Spencers and the Connors finished dessert, Emily and Jake quickly excused themselves from the table. Siobhan was downing another glass of wine as she listened to yet another story from Imogen about Anthony’s adventures as a young toddler; soon enough Siobhan began to deliver her own stories about Anthony’s childhood, making all the guests feel awkward as the rivalry between the two women became more and more apparent. As Siobhan and Imogen began talking over each other, Anthony suddenly stood up “If I wanted to spend my meals with a couple of school girls then I would have actually stayed in school” He barked towards his mother and step mother, he walked out leaving Siobhan and Imogen both speechless. The table was silent as no one knew what to say, Michael and Josh left the table to join Emily and Jake in the living room, while Siobhan escaped to the kitchen. Imogen and Heather sat awkwardly at the empty table “I’ve been expecting a visit from you since I got back, I have to say Heather, I’m disappointed” Imogen mused. Heather threw her napkin on the table “I think we’ve said all we need to Imogen, there’s no need to start raking over the past” Imogen watched Heather as avoided all eye contact with her “Where’s the fierce Heather Connor I used to know? The one who would fight to the death to keep her dirty little secret from getting out?” Imogen asserted. Heather stood up and headed towards the door “Don’t under estimate me Imogen, I’ve paid for my mistakes and I won’t let you threaten me.”

2x12: 'Was that you waving, I thought you were having a fit' | Written by Joe | Episode Thirty Two A table. Two identical photos are sitting on it, side by side. In the photo, Matthew Fitzgerald and Naomi Donovon are in an embrace. Suddenly, a gloved hand comes into view holding a ruler. Then the opposite gloved hand comes into view holding a pencil. The photo is then sliced into 9 segments. A pair of scissors then cuts the photo. Two envelopes are placed on the table. Written on the envelopes are two names, Olivia Kane and Cole Donovon. Scooping the photos into the separate envelopes, the gloved hands then seals them. The scene cuts to a hooded figure walking slowly. The rain is pouring down. The streets are streaming with water. Splash, the sound the hooded figures’ shoe makes when their foot steps off the footpath to walk across the wet road. Stopping at the post box, the hooded figure calmly posts both envelopes and walks off into the distant.
3 DAYS LATER The bad weather has continued on Canvey Island as the rain falls with such force that it sounds loudly off the windows of all the homes on the Island. Inside the Donovon household, Naomi Donovon is making breakfast for husband Cole when she hears the postman. “I'll get it” shouts Ava Donovon as she makes her way downstairs. Cole then begins telling Naomi about his conversation with Sophia Faraday about opening a nightclub. “Yea babes, I've been thinking...maybe it's not such a good idea” offers Naomi sympathetically. Cole is disappointed. “What's not a good idea?” asks a suspicious Ava as she hands Naomi the mail. “Eavesdropping, that's not a good idea and you wanna know why...because eavesdroppers never heard good about themselves” jokes Naomi as Ava throws her eyes to heaven.

Meanwhile, over at the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel Hastings is on the phone. “Just find her...for Christ sakes, it's been weeks...come on” snaps Daniel as he storms on the phone to Michael Connor. “We are doing our very best...” begins Michael but Daniel interrupts by stating, “Well your best obviously isn't good enough mate...my daughter is out there...with a criminal...I want her home Mike, sort it” slams Daniel as he hangs up the phone. Stopping for a moment deep in thought, Daniel has failed to notice that barmaid Chloe Charles is standing behind. “Chloe...I'm sorry, I didn't see you there” offers Daniel. Chloe however just smiles. She explains to Daniel that she understands he's under a lot of pressure. “If you ever need someone to talk to...you have someone to talk to, don't you?” asks a concerned Chloe. Daniel just sighs and confesses to Chloe that Lindsay was his someone. A silence then falls. “Okay let’s get sorted. We're open in an hour” announces Daniel as he walks past Chloe. Chloe grabs his arm as he passes her and smiles at him.

“Oh this weather really has put a dampener on my outfit” slams Eileen Fields as she prepares for a date with Duncan Faraday. “Why were you wearing something short and low cut?” jokes Michelle Fox. “I think you'll find that if you leave something to the imagination of a man, he'll respect you more...and ask you on a second date” winks Eileen before adding, “Why buy beef when you have steak at home.” Michelle laughs. Eileen then explains that she had planned on wearing a dress but because of the rain, she thinks she'll wear a trouser suit now. Michelle reassures Eileen that she's sure Duncan will be impressed regardless of what she wears. “Well of course he will my dear, it's not the clothes, it’s the hanger” replies Eileen. Michelle throws her eyes to heave feeling everything she says is wrong. “So what time are you meeting Duncan?” “Meeting Duncan, my dear girl, when a gentleman is courting a woman, he knows too well that he needs to collect her at the door and return her in the manner in which he collected her” shares Eileen, “Something my son didn't quite achieve with you...but no need crying over spilt milk now is there”. As Michelle leaves the room, she stops a passing David. “Find out when she's leaving...I don't know how many more pop's I can take” storms Michelle.
*
At the bus stop, Mia Faraday is getting off the bus from school when she spots Anthony Spencer across the street. “Anthony” shouts Mia as she chases after Anthony. “Hey, how are you?” asks Mia. Anthony replies that he's fine. “So it's been ages...I mean the last time I saw you was when you were in....” Mia stops mid-sentence as the last time she saw Anthony he was in hospital. “Hospital...you can say it” replies Anthony. Mia frowns. “Sometimes my mouth isn't in gear with my brain”, “Well it's good to know that some things never change” laughs Anthony. Mia then playfully hits Anthony. As the pair share a look, Anthony breaks the moment. “I'm gay” blurts Anthony. Mia stands still. “Did you hear me?” asks Anthony. Mia nods.
*
Parked outside the Donovon household, Sophia Faraday beeps the horn of her car. Growing inpatient when no response is given, she beeps again. “If you think I'm getting out in his rain Cole...” Sophia then calms as she sees Cole running towards the car. “Hey, sorry about the delay...okay well let’s go night club venue hunting” smiles Cole. As a gleeful Sophia pulls away, a hooded figure stands looking at the Donovon household before calmly walking away.
*
Over at Matthew Fitzgerald and Olivia Kane's apartment, Olivia is preparing lunch when she hears the front door opening. “Thank you...cheers mate...okay take care” says Matthew before he joins Olivia in the kitchen. As he throws the mail up on the worktop, Olivia offers him a kiss. After a passionate embrace, Matthew smiles. “Maybe I could call in sick after lunch?” teases Matthew. “Are you trying to say something about my cooking?” remarks Olivia.
In their apartment, Matthew and Olivia are lying in bed after an afternoon of something other than work. “You know I was so lost til I found you” begins Matthew, “I mean I know exactly where I was...but I was lost”. Olivia smiles at him affectionately. Matthew then continues by confessing to Olivia that he had this huge love once but it ended badly. “It hurt...really bad...I loved her”. “Okay, we need to stop...you need to stop” slams Olivia jokingly. Olivia explains that Matthew doesn't need to worry about the past. Not now. Now he has her and she'll never leave him. “So you're promising forever?” asks a hopeful Matthew, “Forever and always.”
*
Meanwhile, at Faraday's Restaurant, Duncan holds out a chair for a glamorous looking Eileen. “How very kind” smiles Eileen. Duncan then asks Eileen how all is with her. “Well I suppose I arrived unannounced so I'm finding my feet where David and...Michelle are concerned” replies Eileen before changing the subject and asking about Duncan's children. “Well my daughter is getting divorced, my grand-daughter is gone missing with her jailbird boyfriend, my daughter-in-law wants to leave the family business and my son is wandering around like he's lost tenner and found a penny”. Eileen then takes a huge gulp of her wine. “Jeremy Kyle would have a field day with your lot” jokes Eileen. As Duncan laughs, Katherine Lavery walks into the restaurant. Duncan then salutes her. Katherine awkwardly waves back with a faint smile. Eileen then picks on this and holds her hand out to Duncan causing Katherine to look away.
*
At the garage, Anthony and Mia are taking shelter from the rain. “Gosh it's really coming down hard isn't it” says a nervous Mia. Anthony remains silent. “I don't think it’s going to stop at all...I really should have bought an umbrella...” stammers Mia as she continues to ignore what Anthony has confessed. Anthony then stands up. “I'm gay...and I need to talk...and I've always talked to you, please can we talk?” begs Anthony. As Mia begins to relax, Anthony smiles. “My Mum knows...”. “Siobhan knows and how did...” begins Mia but Anthony cuts her off and reveals it's Imogen who knows. “Oh...why Imogen?” asks Mia. “She found out, well she guessed...correctly...I had a crush on David and well...Imogen sussed it” reveals Anthony. “So Siobhan has no idea.” Anthony nods his head. “You need to tell her Anthony, especially if Imogen knows, she'll be there for you, she'll understand” offers Mia as Anthony begins to cry. With tears rolling down his face, Anthony turns to Mia. “I didn't want to be gay...I tried to kill myself...and now...my Mum's back...and she's making things worse...” tears an emotional Anthony, “I want Siobhan to know but...Imogen, my Mum, she's always there, always in my face”. Mia then wipes Anthony's tears and kisses him on the cheek. “Siobhan will listen, whenever you are ready, she'll be there. When you stop looking for the time, the time will present itself...but please tell her Anthony, for your own sake”. The pair then hug.
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Michael Connor and his wife Heather arrive. “Stressful day...stressful stressful day” yawns an exhausted Michael. As Heather notices Imogen Sandford at the bar, Michael takes a seat. “Why don't we go home...get a bottle of wine...you’re tired” panics Heather as she tries to avoid a waving Imogen. Michael tells Heather that he's fine. He'd like a pint to help him unwind after the day. With that Daniel joins them and begins grilling Michael while Heather makes her way to the bar. Ordering her drinks, Heather patiently waits. “Didn't you see me waving Heather...or was that your attempt at ignoring me” smiles Imogen. “Was that you waving, I thought you were having a fit” comments Heather. Imogen snidely laughs. “Michael is looking well Heather, he's obviously looked after himself over the years” teases Imogen. Heather then thanks Chloe for her drinks and begins to walk away. Imogen then grabs her hand. “Give Michael my best” winks Imogen as a seething Heather walks away.
*
As they leave the restaurant, Duncan and Eileen are smiling and laughing in each other’s company. Duncan then goes to pay their bill while Eileen makes her way over to Katherine. “Evening” smiles Eileen as Katherine responds with the same. “Dining alone?”, “Well somebody obviously went to Specsavers” replies Katherine. Eileen laughs before leaning into Katherine. “Desperation on a woman of your age is never an attractive perfume...maybe you should think about changing it to something like...Come and get me...I'm yours...Or the luck of the Irish” calmly whispers Eileen before laughing out loud. Duncan then joins them. “What's the joke?” asks Duncan. Both Eileen and Katherine stare at each other. As the trio part ways, Duncan puts his arm around Eileen. Arriving outside her son's home, Eileen smiles at Duncan. “May I?” asks Duncan. Eileen nods. The pair then share a kiss. As Eileen waves from the doorstep, she makes her way inside. However, once she's inside, she hears some arguing. “I just think you should ask her that's all” slams Michelle, “She's my Ma” barks David. “I'm not telling you, you need to kick her out, just find out when she plans on leaving”, “She'll leave when she's ready”, “And what if she starts asking questions”, “She won't”, “Well she better not for both our sakes” slams Michelle. As silence falls, a suspicious Eileen begins to think something more could be going between her son and his partner.
* At an abandoned warehouse, Sophia and Cole are standing smiling. “Are you getting the same feeling I am?” asks Sophia, “Like that feeling in the last 3 places” jokes Cole. Sophia throws him a stern look. He then tells her that he feels like this could be the place. “Just think Cole, the bar could be here...the DJ up here...we could even have a VIP area” an excited Sophia says. As Cole smiles, Sophia stops talking. “What's wrong?” asks Sophia. “Let's make it real first and then plan. Let's put in an offer and go from there yea?” Sophia smiles.
*
The rain continues to fall as the residents of Canvey Island take shelter in their homes. Making his way in to the kitchen, Olivia asks Matthew if he wants anything. Giving her a cuddle, he tells her he'll make something for dinner. As he looks in the fridge, Olivia opens her envelope. The pieces of the photo then fall onto the table. As Olivia begins to piece them together, Cole returns to the Donovan home. Standing in his hallway, Cole notices the unopened mail on the side. Picking it up, he walks into the lounge where Naomi is watching something on the TV. Kissing his wife on the head, Cole sits down and opens his envelope. The pieces of the photo fall onto the ground. Picking them up, Cole puts them on the coffee table and starts to put them together. With the final piece falling to place, a shocked Cole and Olivia look at their respective partners. As Naomi and Matthew look back, the reality of their past is now very much in the present.

2x13: 'He lies as often as he breathes' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Thirty Three • At their flat, Olivia Kane is sat staring at the photograph puzzle of her boyfriend Matthew Fitzgerald and sister Naomi Donovan. Matthew is standing opposite Olivia reeling from his secret being revealed.
OLIVIA: You and my sister?
MATTHEW: (Making his way over to the living room window) It’s not what it looks like.
OLIVIA: (Laughs bitterly) That’s a line I haven’t heard before.
MATTHEW: (Turns around) Maybe it is exactly what it looks like, but it’s an old photograph Liv.
OLIVIA: (Looks closer at the photograph) I suppose my sister does have a lot less wrinkles (Stands up and angrily scatters the pieces of the photograph off the table) Do you really think the age of the photograph matters to me? You’re kissing my sister.
MATTHEW: It was years before we even met.
OLIVIA: You still should have told me.
MATTHEW: Why? So you could use it as a reason not to trust me? We all have a past Olivia; I’m still the same person. I’m still the man you fell in love with.
OLIVIA: (Shaking her head) No you’re not. You don’t understand, I feel like all this time you’ve been pretending to be someone else.
MATTHEW: I haven't, I can assure you that I have been completely honest with you. I didn't tell you about Naomi because I didn't want it affect us. It was years ago. (Pauses) I love you Olivia, that's the truth. Please trust me in that.
OLIVIA: I have told you everything about me Matthew. I told you how hard it was for me to trust people. I’ve done all this before, I’ve fallen in love and moved in, planned a future (Pauses) and been screwed over in the process.
MATTHEW: I’m not Tom. I’m not a con man. I’m not here to scam you out of everything you’ve worked for. Ok, maybe I should have told you about my history with Naomi, but Liv, when I met you, I saw everything I wanted. I couldn’t let it affect us.
OLIVIA: I don’t even know who you are Matthew.
MATTHEW: (Walks towards Olivia and takes her hand) You know the man I am now. I was a different person when I knew Naomi, I was selfish and insecure. I don’t blame her for breaking up with me. But I’m different with you Liv, you make me better.
OLIVIA: (Takes her hand away) How can I be with you knowing that you’ve been with my sister, been intimate with her. It’s disgusting; I’m not the kind of woman that would be ok sharing a man with my sister.
MATTHEW: You don’t have to share me with anyone, I’m all yours Olivia.
OLIVIA: (Coldly) Did you love her?
MATTHEW: (Reluctantly) Yes.
• As Matthew's words hang in the air, Olivia turns away from him. With tears falling from her eyes, Olivia walks out of the room leaving Matthew standing alone.

• At the Donovan house, Naomi and Cole are in the kitchen arguing about Naomi’s past relationship with Matthew. Cole is staring at Naomi who is desperately trying to gather the picture up.
COLE: Stop, just stop Naomi
NAOMI: No I need to get rid of this.
COLE: I've seen it now. (Pauses)
• Naomi continues to gather the pieces of the picture before Cole grabs her hands.
COLE: Talk to me, explain this to me.
NAOMI: (Crying) You told me to move on Cole, you refused to see me or the children. Do you know how hurtful it was turning up at the prison with Ava in my arms and Noah at my side only to be told that you didn’t want to see us. I had to tell my little boy that he couldn’t see his daddy, you have no idea what that was like for me.
COLE: I was trying to do what was best, I didn’t want Noah and Ava growing up seeing me like that. Can you imagine what they would have had to put up with? Going to school answering questions about their weekend. ‘Played a bit of football, watched a few films, oh and I went to see my Dad, he’s serving fifteen for murder’ I wanted you to have a life Naomi; I wanted my children to have a normal childhood. (Pauses)
• Cole then makes his way over to the kitchen table and sits down. As Naomi wipes her tears, Cole looks up at her and smiles softly.
COLE: I’m not angry about Matthew. I’m not naïve, I knew you would have had other men in your life, I just didn’t expect it on my doorstep, and I sure as hell didn’t expect you to lie about it.
NAOMI: (Troubled) This is all such a mess. I can’t bear the thought of you hating me Cole.
COLE: I don’t hate you Naomi, I could never hate you. But I am angry. I’m angry with the lies and I’m angry with all the dinners and the drinks we’ve shared with your sister and her boyfriend and you didn’t say a word. NAOMI: I’m sorry. I don’t know what else to say, I was planning on telling you and then… I just didn’t. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find the right time to tell your husband that your ex is shacked up with your sister. COLE: You should have told me Naomi. I deserved that much at least.
NAOMI: I know I've made a mess of things but if you give me the chance I'll make it right, I promise you, no more lies.
• Cole then leans forward and pulls Naomi closer and kisses her.

• Meanwhile, back at their apartment, Olivia is standing in the bathroom. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Olivia begins to wipe her face as her eyeliner has smudged and ran down her face. Outside the door, Matthew leans against the door. As he prepares to knock on the door, he turns away and returns to the living room.
__________________________________________________
• At the Donovan household, Cole is standing in their living room when Naomi joins him with some drinks. Cole then turns to Naomi holding a family photo of her and the children when they were younger.
COLE: What about the kids? Did they realize who Matthew was?
NAOMI: I asked them not to say anything.
COLE: (Disbelieving) You got our children to lie for you. Naomi, can’t you see how messed up this is?
NAOMI: I know Cole, I know. I should have told you the truth from the start. But the longer I left it, the harder it became. But you can’t let them win.
COLE: Let who win Naomi?
NAOMI: The person who keeps doing this to us. There is someone out there who knows all our secrets and they seem determined to bring us down.
COLE: If you didn’t lie then there would be no ammunition.
NAOMI: I know all of this is my fault, I get that. Everything that this family has been through has been down to me. (Leans against the wall) I never meant to hurt you Cole. I feel pathetic and weak, after everything you have done for me, I couldn’t even wait a few years.
COLE: Fifteen years is a long time.
NAOMI: I know and I feel guilty every single day about what I did. (Pauses) Well, for what I did to you… letting you take the blame for killing my father. I should have told the truth, I should have admitted what he did to me and why I had to kill him. Why I had to protect my little sister. I should have never let you take the blame.
COLE: I would do it all over again (Pulls Naomi closer to him) Naomi, if I’d have had the chance, I would have done it myself. When I look at Ava and think about how much I love her, it makes me feel sick at the thought of what your father did to you. I wish I had have got there first, I know it’s horrible to say, but he deserved what he got. But you don’t deserve what you’ve had to live with.
NAOMI: How can you be so understanding?
COLE: Because I love you, you're it for me Naomi, you and the kids, you're my world. And I won't let anyone hurt us, not anymore.
NAOMI: Someone out there wants us to suffer. He’s not going to stop Cole, whoever it is; it’s not going to stop until we’ve lost everything.
COLE: We’ll face it together Naomi, I’ve only just got my family back. I’m not going to let anyone or anything tear us apart.
NAOMI: I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Matthew. I wish that I had just told the truth from the beginning.
COLE: Let's not think about that now okay. (Pauses) We've got far bigger issues to deal with that some torn up old photo.

• Back at Matthew and Olivia’s flat. They are both sat on opposite sofas in silence. Looking at the clock, Olivia can hear every tick. As the clock continues to tick ever more loudly, Olivia clinches her fist.
OLIVIA: (Standing up) I can’t get that image of you and my sister out my head.
MATTHEW: Then don't think about it. Let's go out, let's go for a drink.
OLIVIA: No I can't, I don't want to, I just need to forget.
MATTHEW: (Also standing up) Tell me what I can do to make it better. Tell me what I can do to help you forget.
• Olivia stands staring at Matthew, trying to control her emotion, trying to forget what has been revealed that night.
OLIVIA: I need some air.
MATTHEW: Okay (Grabs coat) Lets go for a walk then.
OLIVIA: (Abruptly) No. (Pauses) I need some space.
• Olivia walks out and leaves Matthew alone in the flat.
• Olivia walks along the beach. The moon is shining down on Canvey Island. As she continues to walk, Olivia can hear conversations in her head. Conversations with Matthew, Naomi and Cole. The conversations then beginning to jumble into one huge mess culminating in Olivia seeing the picture of Matthew and Naomi kissing. Olivia stops. Looking around, realizing she's alone, Olivia sits on the beach and begins to sob.
__________________________________________________
• At the Donovan house, Naomi is standing at the kitchen sink washing some cups. Cole then joins her.
COLE: I'm going to duck out for a pint, okay?
NAOMI: Yeah sure. (Pauses) Do you want me to come with you?
COLE: Not tonight, I need some time to think. On my own.
• Naomi nods in agreement. Cole then grabs his coat but walks over to Naomi.
COLE: I love you.
NAOMI: I love you too.
• The couple embrace before Cole leaves. After Cole has left, Naomi picks up her mobile and searches her contacts for Olivia. Waiting for her sister to answer, Naomi nervously paces the floor. The call connects.
NAOMI: Olivia, it's me, it's Naomi. (Pauses) Liv, please, listen...Liv.
• The call goes cold. Naomi grabs her coat and rushes out the door.
__________________________________________________
• Cole knocks at Matthew and Olivia's apartment door. Matthew rushes to the door and answers it.
MATTHEW: Did you forget your keys?
COLE: No but I think you forgot your manners.
__________________________________________________
• At the beach, Olivia is walking towards the exit as Naomi approaches from the opposite direction.
NAOMI: I thought I’d find you here.
OLIVIA: (Shrugs).
NAOMI: I’m sorry.
OLIVIA: For what? The lies or for getting found out?
NAOMI: I panicked. When I realized who Matthew was, I freaked out and I didn’t know what to do. I thought if I just ignored it, then eventually he would go away.
OLIVIA: Oh of course, like all the problems in your life Naomi, you just hope they go away, well I've news for you, life doesn't work like that. Sometimes you have to face the difficult stuff, the bad decisions (Pauses) The betrayals.
NAOMI: I get that, I'm not trying to lessen my fault in all this but I hurt him Liv, I really hurt him.
OLIVIA: Obviously a habit of yours.
NAOMI: I was scared of losing you again. We spent all those years apart after Dad died and Cole was sent down and I had just got you back in my life again. And Cole too. That’s all I ever wanted, my family back together, I was scared of ruining it.
OLIVIA: (Sits on a bench facing the sea) All this time, I thought you didn’t like him. The way you always criticised him and the way you tried to put me off moving in with him (Scoffs) Ironic that it was actually the complete opposite.
NAOMI: (Joining her on the bench) I never meant for this to get out of hand, I thought he was seeing you to get at me. I thought he’d get bored. But Olivia, this is getting more and more serious (Pauses) I think Matthew’s the one who’s been sending me all the notes and the photographs. And the gun.
OLIVIA: You are unbelievable. (Shaking her head) This is so typical of you Naomi; you get caught in a lie so you throw the heat on someone else.
NAOMI: I knew you wouldn’t believe me. This stalker has been sending notes for months, about Cole and then about my relationship with Matthew. No one else knew Olivia, it’s the only explanation. Surely this all proves what he’s capable of; he lies as often as he breathes.
OLIVIA: You’re one to talk Naomi. You really are something else aren't you? I love the fact that this “stalker” seems to have manifested himself at the most opportune moment for you.
NAOMI: Listen to me, this all started when Matthew moved to Canvey Island. You know I don’t believe in coincidences.
OLIVIA: And you know I don't believe liars. My own sister, Naomi. You're my sister, why would you keep this from me? Why?
NAOMI: I didn't want to hurt you.
OLIVIA: I love him Naomi, I thought I finally found the one. You couldn't have hurt more if you tried.
NAOMI: I have spent my whole life trying to protect you Olivia. (Pauses) There is someone out there who is trying to hurt me and my family and I think that person is Matthew.
OLIVIA: (Standing up) Don’t you dare accuse Matthew of being some kind of weird stalker! You caused all of this Naomi, you keep so many secrets and tell so many lies, some would say its karma.
NAOMI: (Follows Olivia) You think I want to feel like this, to look over my shoulder every minute of the day? To jump every time I hear the postman. Every single day, I wonder what is going to happen next. Somebody wanted the truth about to Cole to come out and it did, somebody has been following my family and made sure those photographs of Noah and the Thompsons got to the police. And somebody planted that gun where I could find it and tipped off Michael Connor. This is someone with a grudge against my family and Matthew fits the criteria.
OLIVIA: Because you dumped him? People get dumped every day Naomi. Are you even listening to yourself, you’re so self-absorbed. You break a guy’s heart and think you turned him into some psycho stalker. You must have some high opinion of yourself Naomi.
NAOMI: Of all the places in the country he could move to and he ends up living on the same small island. It’s like the tagline to a horror film. He’s responsible for all of this Olivia, I’m sure of it.
OLIVIA: Just stop Naomi, just stop.
NAOMI: I’m sorry Olivia; I don’t mean to upset you. But I think you really need to consider this.
OLIVIA: There is nothing to consider. You are a liar and now you've been found out and you clutching desperately at something to claw your way into getting sympathy.
NAOMI: Oh I wouldn't have to claw very hard. My husband was sent to jail for killing our father, I spent years alone with my kids struggling to get by, then my son runs away so he doesn't have to go to jail like his father and I've a daughter who is trying to understand how her brother could let her get shot. As novels go, it sounds like a bestseller, wouldn't you agree. OLIVIA: Jeremy Kyle would have a field day but then you'd probably enjoy that.
NAOMI: Please don't be flippant Olivia. This is serious, what is happening is serious. You need to look at this objectively, see Matthew for what he really is. You have to Liv.
OLIVIA: (Walking away) You don’t get to tell me what to do.
• Olivia storms off leaving a defeated Naomi standing in her wake.

• Back at Matthew and Olivia's apartment, Cole is standing in the living room while Matthew looks on.
COLE: So you and my wife had a thing (Pauses)
MATTHEW: Cole mate...
COLE: I'm not your mate, not anymore.
MATTHEW: It was a lifetime ago. I've got Liv now.
COLE: Yeah you've got Liv but just one thing bothers me Matthew, why here? Why Canvey Island?
MATTHEW: I don't follow.
COLE: Why move here when you could have moved anywhere?
MATTHEW: I moved here because of work Cole, nothing more.
COLE: Look Matthew, I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't have an issue with your previous relationship with my wife but what I do have an issue with is the lies you have been telling. (Pauses) So let me give you some advice, mate, you don't wanna cross me, so I don't want to hear your name causing my wife or family any more heartache than you already have because if I do, you'll wish that work had sent you anywhere but Canvey Island.
• Cole then walks out of the living room. As Matthew stands alone reeling from his encounter, Olivia is making her way home.
__________________________________________________
• Back at the Donovan household, Naomi is sitting in the living room, watching the fire when Cole arrives. Looking at her husband, Naomi begins to cry. Cole wraps his arms around Naomi and pulls close.
COLE: It's okay darling, it's all going to be okay, I promise.
__________________________________________________
• At Matthew and Olivia’s flat. Matthew is looking out the window and sees Olivia arriving home. She lets herself in and joins Matthew in the living room.
MATTHEW: I was worried about you babe.
OLIVIA: (Sternly) Did you know who my sister was when you met me?
MATTHEW: (Hesitates) No.
OLIVIA: You know she thinks you’re responsible for all this. The letters, the threats and now this.
MATTHEW: What letters? What threats? What are you talking about?
OLIVIA: She thinks you're stalking her and her family.
MATTHEW: (Gasps) You have got to be joking me. Yeah I'm stalking her. Of course I am. (Pauses) You don't believe her do you?
OLIVIA: Of course not. I know you're a lot of things but some psycho stalker that's not one of them.
MATTHEW: (Shaking his head) I can't believe she thinks I would actually sabotage my own relationship. Is she unhinged? She must be losing it with all that's happening that mad family of her's.
OLIVIA: (Defensively) Don’t talk about my sister like that.
MATTHEW: I’m sorry. (Pauses) It’s just so outrageous. I know we have a painful history, but she should know me better than this. I can’t believe she would think I would even be capable of any of this. OLIVIA: I know, I know. I don’t know what to think about anything anymore. The two people I trusted most in the world lied to me and now you’re both telling me different things, I don’t know what I’m supposed to believe anymore Matthew.
MATTHEW: I know you’re mad at me right now, but you have to believe me, I love you Olivia and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. (Takes a small box out of pocket) Olivia Kane, you are stunningly beautiful, intelligent, your sense of humour could do with a bit of help, but we can sort that out (Gets down on one knee) Olivia, I am so in love with you. Will you marry me?
• Olivia stares at the diamond ring in the box that Matthew is holding. The scenes fades as Olivia is speechless.

2x14: 'I think you're just one of those people who doesn't have to open their mouth to cause offense' | Written by Joe | Episode Thirty Four It’s Halloween on Canvey Island as the Crown and Horseshoe pub plays host to a fancy dress party for the occasion. As Daniel Hastings prepares the bar for the night ahead, barmaid Chloe Charles is lost in thought. “Chloe, Chloe…oi, can you pass me that banner please?” shouts Daniel as he tries to decorate the bar. Chloe snaps back to reality and hands Daniel the banner. “Daniel, I’ve been doing some thinking. Maybe I could take some time off, I really fancy just getting away” Daniel agrees that it is fine and asks when she is planning on going. “Today” Chloe admitted. As a shocked Daniel reels, Chloe is hopeful that he’ll agree.

Over at the Field’s home, Michelle Fox is making breakfast when Eileen Fields joins her in the kitchen. “Morning sweetheart” smiles a cheerful Eileen. Michelle is taken aback by Eileen’s warmth. Michelle greets her back and acknowledges that Eileen’s date with local businessman Duncan Faraday must have gone well. “It was delightful. I truthfully enjoyed the evening” confirms Eileen. “Well, I’m glad. Can I get you some tea?” asks Michelle. Eileen then stands to her feet and demands that Michelle should sit down as she shouldn’t be doing so much in her condition. “I’ll make the tea and the breakfast. And I’ll cook this evening” enthuses Eileen “After all, you are carrying my grandchild, it’s about time I started to help out a bit more.” As Michelle sits down, Eileen smiles at her before continuing with the breakfast Michelle started.

Walking down the main street of Canvey Island, Olivia Kane is on the phone, when suddenly she hears shouting coming from behind her. “Liv, wait, please” shouts Olivia’s sister Naomi Donovan. After Olivia realises it’s her sister calling her, she begins to walk faster. Finishing her conversation on the phone, Olivia makes her way over to her car. “Olivia, stop. Please just wait, I need to talk to you” begins Naomi. “Naomi, I have nothing left to say to you. I think we’ve said all we need to say to each other, ok, now can you move please?” says Olivia as she tries to push Naomi out of her way. As Naomi grabs Olivia’s hands, she notices Olivia’s engagement ring “Oh Liv, please tell me that you didn’t. Have you agreed to marry him?” a shocked Naomi begs her sister to answer. “Yes, Matthew and I are getting married. Not that it’s any of your business” snaps Olivia. Naomi begs Olivia to reconsider “Olivia, he’s not right, he’s not the man you think he is. Please Liv.” “Naomi, you’re like a broken record. A demented dog that’s lost a bone or something, you need to back off. Try saving your own relationship before starting on mine.” Naomi explains to Olivia that she and Cole are fine “Olivia, you’re my sister.” “Well, then you should be happy for me” Naomi sighs “How can I be? Matthew is evil” Olivia laughs “You know what, you’ve really lost it Naomi. Matthew and I are getting married. And in the New Year, we’re moving away. As far away from you as we can get” announces Olivia before getting into her car leaving Naomi reeling.
*
Back at the Field’s home, Eileen and Michelle are busy in the kitchen when Michelle’s phone rings. “It’s David” smiles Michelle. Eileen continues with the baking when there is a knock at the door. “Ok, well I’m sure you can’t help it, ok, love you” sighs Michelle as she hangs up on David. At the front door, Eileen is delighted to see Duncan, as she opens the door, Duncan smiles and hands her a bouquet of flowers. “For me, you shouldn’t have. Come in, please. Can I get you a cup of tea?” blushes Eileen as she asks Duncan to ignore the mess of the kitchen. She explains that she has been teaching Michelle how to make an apple tart. “I think she has her work cut out for her” Michelle laughs “Oh Eileen, David’s been called away on business so it’s just us for dinner” informs Michelle. “Well, I’m happy to be a guinea pig” offers Duncan as he eyes up the apple tart.
*
Standing at the beach, Heather Connor and Siobhan Spencer are awkwardly huddled together from the cold as their children Jake Connor and Emily Spencer go trick or treating. “I remember the first year I took Josh trick or treating. Everyone kept staring at me” reminisces Heather. Siobhan laughs and asks why people were staring “Well, he was only four months old” Heather then reveals that she was so excited to be a mother, she didn’t want Josh to miss out. Making her way towards them is Imogen Sandford. As Imogen gets closer, Heather makes her excuses and leaves. “Jake, come here please” calls Heather as she passes Imogen. “Something I said?” comments Imogen. “I think you’re just one of those people who doesn’t have to open their mouth to cause offense” reveals Siobhan. Imogen sighs and comments that she thought her and Siobhan were getting on better recently. “Look, I’m sorry. I’m just worried about Anthony.” “Why? What’s happened?” asks a concerned Imogen. “He’s just been very quiet the past few days.” “And you didn’t think to tell me?” snaps Imogen. “Well, as his mother, I would have thought you noticed” responds Siobhan before walking off.
*
“Hey, I want a word with you” shouts Naomi as she storms towards Matthew outside the Fitzgerald and Connor office. Matthew smiles at Naomi before asking what she wants. “You think you’re so smug, don’t you? You think you’ve got it all sorted, well you don’t. I’m on to you Matthew.” “I haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about Naomi. Would you like me to call Cole? I know you’ve been under a lot of pressure lately.” “Don’t you dare patronise me. I know it was you Matthew, the police, reporting Noah, the gun and now the photograph, I know it’s you” reveals an angry Naomi. Matthew then asks Naomi why he would want to destroy his own happiness. “I love Olivia, I’m sorry if this upsets you, but there is nothing left between us now.” “Don’t flatter yourself” laughs Naomi before revealing to Matthew that she will get him. “I know you’re the one stalking me. I know it’s you and I will find proof, you’ll slip up and I’ll be there waiting.”
*
Meanwhile, newlyweds Noah and Megan Donovan are still living on the streets. As Megan begins another violent coughing fit, Noah frets beside her. “Baby please” begs Noah as he hugs her. He pleads with her that she needs to see a doctor. “No we can’t, if we go…” Megan coughs “If we go to the doctors, then they’ll tell our par…” Megan coughs again “Parents where we are” confides a very ill Megan. Noah asks Megan what kind of husband he is if he lets his wife get so ill. “I know you’re trying to be strong. I can be strong too, please let’s just get some money so we can buy more blankets” begs Megan as she leans on Noah to help her walk. As the couple walk down the street together, Noah looks at Megan and faintly smiles.
Night time has fallen on Canvey Island as the adults come out to play. Making their way towards the Crown and Horseshoe, Siobhan and her partner Josh Connor are dressed as Sonny and Cher “I never really saw myself as a Cher” nags Siobhan. “Yeah well, I didn’t quite see myself as Sonny either, but it’s all they had left at the costume shop.” As Siobhan fiddles with her wig, Steven and Sophia Faraday wave at them from across the street. Steven is dressed as Matt Smith’s Dr Who while Sophia is dressed as his companion Clara Oswald. “Well at least they look half decent” snipes Siobhan. “Are you going to be like this for the whole night?” storms Josh before Siobhan apologises and explains that she is stressed because of Anthony and Imogen.
*
Inside the Crown and Horseshoe, landlord and landlady estranged couple Daniel and Lindsay Hastings are dressed as a vampire and witch. “Can you believe Chloe? I mean, tonight of all nights to leave us in a lurch” “Look, I’m sure she has her reasons Daniel, its fine. We’ll cope” reassures Lindsay.
*
Over at her apartment, Chloe is sitting on her sofa when the buzzer rings. Looking out of her window, Chloe can see that PC Harry Campbell is standing outside. He waves up to her and she buzzes him in. Once inside her flat, Chloe offers Harry something to drink. “Yeah, a cup of tea please” smiles Harry. In the kitchen, Chloe makes small talk with Harry before handing him his tea. “So, do you wanna tell me why you’ve called me over?” Harry asks. Chloe looks at Harry and fighting her tears, begins to talk. “I was meant to be working tonight at the pub. I couldn’t. I couldn’t face it. I just kept thinking, what if he walked in. He’d be wearing a costume and I wouldn’t know it was him. But he’d know me. I know it sounds silly, but…” “It doesn’t sound silly. It’s going to take some time Chloe. You’ve made such huge progress so far, but don’t ever feel you need to push yourself. When you’re ready, you’ll know” smiles a sympathetic Harry.
*
At the pub, Michael and Heather Connor arrive at the party dressed as King Henry VIII and Queen Anne Boleyn “Wow, you look fantastic” smiles Lindsay. As Heather thanks her, Michael chats to his son Josh and his girlfriend Siobhan. Heather then asks if they’d like something to drink. Once she has their orders, she makes her way to the bar. A hush then descends on the bar as Daniel begins to smile. Making her way into the pub, Imogen is dressed as Julia Roberts from the film Pretty Woman. “A prostitute, it figures” Heather mutters to Lindsay. “Evening all, let’s get this party started” laughs Imogen.
*
Standing outside the pub smoking a cigarette, Steven is looking up at the stars. “Wishing you could travel up there like the real doctor” jokes Sophia. “Sometimes I think life would be simpler if we could” reveals Steven. Sophia then asks Steven what’s wrong, she feels like since she started planning to open a nightclub with Cole, he’s pulled away from her. “It’s not that, don’t be silly.” “But I feel silly because every time I bring it up, this exciting new part of my life with you, you just shut me down” argues Sophia. Steven reveals that he thought their life was perfect, he was happy teaching, she had the restaurant and Mia was their perfect little girl, life is good. “Life is good, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be better” says Sophia “You’re right, you are so right. I haven’t been there for you and I’m sorry, but the nightclub, I can’t agree to it. I can’t agree because I want us to have another baby” confesses Steven as a shocked Sophia’s eyes widen.
*
“Noah” calls Megan before starting to cough again. As Noah turns around, he waves at Megan. Suddenly, a group of guys wearing masks run towards Megan and knock her over. “Get off me, please” screams a coughing Megan as one of the guys tries to grab the money she has. Noah runs towards them and attacks them. Pushing the first guy off, he then punches the second. As the lads run off, Megan tells Noah she can’t catch her breath. Panicking, Noah screams for help.
*
“That was amazing, thank you Eileen” smiles Michelle as she finishes her dinner. Eileen smiles “It’s a pity Duncan couldn’t join us.” Eileen however reveals she is also glad he couldn’t as it has given her and Michelle the chance to get to know each other. Michelle agrees that it has been lovely. “Now my dear, I don’t mean to pry, but the other night when I came home from being out with Duncan. I couldn’t help but overhear you and David having words” confesses Eileen, “I hope I haven’t caused you any stress or that me being here is an issue.” Michelle sighs and tells Eileen that everything is fine. Eileen however tells Michelle that she doesn’t believe her. “If it’s me, then I can go. If me being here is causing you and my grandchild stress then I’d never forgive myself.” Michelle tells Eileen that her being there is fine “I mean, today has been lovely, really nice actually” smiles Michelle “I’m actually enjoying having you here now.” Eileen smiles “Oh I am glad, I’d hate to think I was a bother. But it’s such a huge moment for me, my first grandchild” gushes Eileen as she continues to talk about her excitement in becoming a grandmother and how David will make a great father “And I suppose if things continue to go well, you never know, Duncan could become this little one’s grandfather” smiles Eileen obliviously as Michelle reels. “Yes of course, hopefully things will go well” panics Michelle. Eileen then continues to push things further by telling Michelle that Duncan’s granddaughter Mia could even help with babysitting. “Can you just stop, please” shouts Michelle. “The Faradays won’t be involved with my baby, just let it go.” “There’s no need for that tone” responds Eileen “You’d think I’d touched a nerve.” Michelle tells Eileen that she has a headache and leaves the room.
*
Back at the pub, Imogen is dancing with Michael on the dance floor, while Heather seethes in the corner. “I didn’t know Dad could move like that” laughs Josh while Siobhan surveys Heather’s reaction. Across the room, Sophia is standing at the bar “Vodka, double… on the rocks” orders Sophia. As Lindsay goes to get the drink, Daniel eyes up Imogen. However, Imogen smirks at Heather as she continues to flirt with Michael. “That’s it” storms Heather before Siobhan grabs her arm. “Don’t give her the satisfaction.” Siobhan then asks Michael for a dance, while Heather follows a defeated Imogen. As Imogen makes her way to the ladies, Cole and Naomi arrive at the pub “I can’t believe you went to see him. And that you accused him. What happened to letting it drop Naomi?” confronts Cole as he argues about her encounter with Matthew. Meanwhile, in the ladies, Heather is waiting for Imogen. “You need to back off” begins Heather “Or else.” “Or else what? You’ll tell the truth. I think you forget Heather, but you started this all those years ago” barks Imogen “I’m only returning the favour.” “Keep your hands off my husband” slams Heather. “If only you’d done the same” smacks Imogen. Back in the bar area of the pub, Daniel answers the phone and is alarmed by the shocking news. “Linds, it’s Megan, they’ve found her. She’s in hospital” shouts Daniel. As Lindsay reels, Cole and Naomi ask about Noah “I don’t know anything about Noah; all I know is that our little girl needs us. 2x15: 'I haven't seen you this excited since Zara opened up a branch on the high street' | Written by Hannah | Episode Thirty Five The cold November breeze hit the Canvey Lanes High Street as new bride to be Olivia Kane rushed out of the Last Minute Supermarket carrying every bridal magazine that the small shop sold. She walked briskly towards Canvey Crescent until she arrived at her best friend Chloe Charles’ flat. As Olivia went to pull out her keys, she laughed. She still hadn’t got used to the fact that she no longer shared the flat with Chloe. After waiting for Chloe to let her in, Olivia excitedly walked into the flat, feeling like she was about to burst “Wow, I haven’t seen you this excited since Zara opened up a branch on the high street” Chloe teased. Olivia smiled back “You look well” She commented. “Thanks” Chloe answered knowing that was the complete opposite to how she felt; noticing the magazines Olivia was clutching Chloe smiled “Come on Liv, out with it. I can tell you’re dying to tell me something” Olivia placed the magazines down on the table and held out her left hand towards Chloe “That’s some diamond” Olivia’s smile faltered by Chloe’s lack of enthusiasm. Chloe looked closer at the engagement ring “I’m guessing you and Matthew survived Naomigate then” Olivia nodded “I was going to tell you on the phone, but I wanted to see your face when I showed you the ring” Olivia paused “He should have told me from the beginning, but I love him Chlo, I can’t give up everything we’ve built because he has a past” Chloe raised an eyebrow “A past with your sister” Chloe pointed out. Olivia frowned “That is a detail I am trying to block from my memory” Olivia paused “Please be happy for me Chlo, you’re my best friend and I can’t plan this wedding without my maid of honour” Chloe stared at Olivia “You want me to be your maid of honour?” Olivia laughed “Who else do you think I’d ask?” Chloe hugged Olivia “As long as you’re sure about this.” Olivia stepped back “There is a catch, the wedding is on New Year’s Eve” Chloe’s eyes widened “You want me to help plan a wedding that is less than eight weeks away!”

At a small hospital in Glasgow, estranged couple Daniel and Lindsay Hastings were huddled together in the corridor waiting for a doctor to come and speak to them about their daughter Megan Donovan’s condition, finally a young female doctor walked towards them “How’s my daughter?” Lindsay asked pleadingly. The doctor smiled softly and reassured the former couple that Megan would be fine. “Megan is suffering from a mild case of pneumonia, but we’ve got her on a drip and she’s getting the antibiotics and fluids that she needs” Daniel sighed “Can we see her?” The doctor nodded and led Daniel and Lindsay towards the ward Megan was on. Lindsay squealed the moment she saw her daughter and dived towards her “Oh Megan, we’ve been so worried about you” Megan pulled away from her mother “Where’s Noah?” Daniel and Lindsay both looked towards the doctor. “The young man who brought you in? I haven’t seen him” The doctor admitted. “Typical, he just dumps you and runs. Selfish son of a…” Megan cut her father off “He’s my husband” Megan blurted out. Daniel and Lindsay both exhaled sharply as they reeled from Megan’s revelation.

Sat on the rocks by the sea, Anthony Spencer and Mia Faraday were talking about Anthony’s reluctance to confide in his step mother Siobhan about his sexuality “Siobhan is the least judgemental person that I know, she won’t have a problem with it” Mia pressed. Anthony sighed “I know, but…” He paused “If I tell Siobhan then it means I’m accepting who I really am and that scares the hell out of me” Mia sat quietly for a moment “Being gay doesn’t change who you are, you’re still Anthony, you’re still my best friend” Anthony smiled “Thanks Mia, I think I’d go crazy if I didn’t have you to talk to” He said genuinely. Mia noticed her friend Vicki Connor walking towards them with her boyfriend Kyle Campbell, Anthony groaned and stood up “Please don’t go” Mia pleaded. “How’s it hanging Anthony?” Vicki said bitchily. Anthony shook his head and turned towards Mia “Sorry Mia, I don’t have to put up with that” Anthony and Mia began to walk away, but Kyle called them back. “Vicki didn’t mean it; you know what she’s like. Bitch first, think later” Kyle handed them a leaflet “My mate’s having a bit of a late bonfire party, you guys should come” Mia looked at the leaflet “I don’t think it’s my thing” Vicki shrugged “Suit yourself, stay at home with mummy and daddy then” Mia blushed and looked at Anthony. He was thoughtful “Maybe we could both do with a bit of fun”

Michelle Fox and her partner David Fields arrived at Canvey Island General Hospital for their second pregnancy scan; the couple were excitedly debating whether they should find out the sex of the baby. However, their excitement was soon dampened when Michelle’s enthusiasm fell “I wish I didn’t feel so guilty about this” Michelle admitted “Lying to everyone we know. Our friends and our family” David took hold of Michelle’s hand “We’re doing what we have to, no good can come of telling the truth” Michelle stared at her hand intertwined with David’s “I’m scared I’m going to trip up and let something slip” David smiled sympathetically “I know how you’re feeling, but we’ve come too far to turn back now. I love you Michelle and I already love this baby, as far as I’m concerned this is my child.”

Chloe was surprised to find PC Harry Campbell on her doorstep as she exited her flat “Hey” She smiled. “I’m sorry you’re off out” Harry observed. “Well, I’m just heading over to pick up some wedding invitation mock ups, you can walk with me?” Harry looked confused “I didn’t realise you were getting married” Chloe laughed “I’m on maid of honour duty” Chloe and Harry began to walk out of the crescent and made their way towards the high street across the beach. “I’m guessing you’re not visiting to hear all about wedding planning” Chloe said, finally acknowledging the reason behind Harry’s appearance. Harry looked awkward “There’s been another attack” He revealed. Chloe’s blood ran cold as she struggled to comprehend Harry’s words. He carried on speaking “The circumstances of the attack are the same as yours Chloe, we think it’s the same attacker” Chloe walked towards the bench and sat down, she covered her face with her hands “I should have remembered” She sighed. Harry sat down next to her. “If I had remembered something, anything” Chloe shook her head “Instead I let this faceless man take everything and now he’s done it to someone else” Harry looked at Chloe “You’re not responsible for what this man does, what you’ve been through is one of the worst things a person can go through, if anything it’s my fault for not catching him before he had the chance to do it again” Harry paused “We can’t do this Chloe, we can’t blame ourselves. This man is an animal and he is the one to blame. I will find him Chloe” Harry promised. Chloe and Harry stood back up and began walking again “I hate knowing that he’s still out there, walking the streets and enjoying his life while he ruined mine. I can’t take any night shifts at work because I’m too frightened to have to walk home alone; I lied to my boss, I told him I wanted to take a holiday, but I just wanted a reason to avoid going to work. I try to paint on a smile every single day and pretend that nothing has happened to me. But then it all comes back, I sit in my flat every night and I have to keep the tv on all night because I freak out at every single noise or creak. I keep trying to live my life and not let him affect me, but the truth is Harry, he has affected my life and I can’t feel safe until he’s been found.”
At the Faradays’ house, Sophia Faraday was standing over the dining room table pouring over magazines of furniture and ideas for the nightclub she was planning on opening with neighbour and friend Cole Donovan. As her husband Steven walked in, Sophia pretended not to notice his entrance. Steven sat down at the table and stared at his wife “We have to talk about this sometime Sophia” Steven warned. “I need to get the seating ordered otherwise there will be nowhere for anyone to sit” Sophia responded not even looking up from the table. “So you’re still set on this nightclub thing?” Steven snapped. Before Sophia could respond, the couple were interrupted by their daughter Mia’s appearance “Have I interrupted something?” Mia asked cautiously, picking up on the tension between her parents. Sophia and Steven both said no at the same time, not convinced Mia carried on anyway “Is it ok if I stay at Vicki’s tonight?” Sophia raised an eyebrow “On a school night? I don’t think it’s such a great idea” Mia groaned “Please Mum, we have to finish off our presentation for tomorrow” Mia looked at Steven expectantly “Ok, ok” Steven agreed “It will give us a chance to talk things through” Steven pointed out to Sophia, who sighed in annoyance.

Daniel paced the corridor as Lindsay was on the phone to Noah’s mother Naomi Donovan “I’ve told you Naomi, we have no idea where Noah is” Lindsay maintained “Please Lindsay, you have to talk to Megan. I need to find my son. If he hands himself in, it might help the case against him” Naomi begged. “To be honest Naomi, Noah’s case isn’t on my list of priorities right now” Lindsay finished up the call and turned towards Daniel. “You didn’t tell her” Daniel acknowledged. “I think the less people that know about this farce the better. The second I get back to Canvey Island I’m going straight to Heather to get this ridiculous marriage annulled” Lindsay vowed. “What are we going to tell Megan about us?” Daniel asked. “We’re in the middle of a divorce Linds” Lindsay shrugged “Let’s just concentrate on getting our daughter home; we can deal with the rest later.”

Michelle smiled as she framed the scan photograph from that afternoon, she lovingly placed it on the small bookcase as David hugged her from behind “I can’t believe this is our little boy” Michelle felt choked up. “He’s going to be as beautiful as his ma” David smiled. As the couple laughed about the fishing trips and camping weekends David was already planning, David’s mother Eileen Fields interrupted them “This technology is getting earlier and earlier, I didn’t think you could find out for another month or so” Eileen mused. Michelle and David looked at each other awkwardly “Yeah well, in this day and age, I’m surprised you can’t find out the sex from the moment of conception” David responded. Michelle cringed and made her excuses to escape the room. Eileen watched Michelle leave awkwardly and turned towards David “Are you sure there isn’t anything you want to tell me David?” Eileen questioned.

Anthony and Mia were both sipping from a bottle of beer as they stood awkwardly on the edges on the bonfire party Vicki and Kyle had encouraged them to attend. Vicki and Kyle were drunkenly dancing together by the bonfire “So this is fun” Mia muttered. Anthony laughed “It’s a party let’s go and dance” Anthony guided Mia towards Vicki and Kyle and they began to dance to the music. As Anthony laughed, he noticed someone watching him from the other side of the bonfire; he smiled politely at the guy who nodded in response. “I’m gonna get another beer” Anthony whispered to Mia and he walked towards the table full of drinks. As he opened the bottle, Anthony noticed the guy now standing next to him “Having a good night?” He asked. Anthony nodded, feeling a little tongue tied. “I’m Tate by the way” He held out his hand towards Anthony, who shook it “Anthony.” Back over at the bonfire, Kyle searched his pockets and finally found what he was looking for “I think we should make this party a little more interesting” He laughed holding up a small plastic bag containing white pills. Mia frowned in disgust, but Vicki just smiled “What are they?” She asked. “E’s” Kyle admitted and quickly swallowed a pill. Vicki looked at Mia expectantly who just shook her head “I think I’m gonna see where Anthony went” Mia made her way over to Anthony and Tate as Vicki threw the pill into her mouth and carried on dancing with Kyle.

Eileen yawned as she realised it was past midnight, Michelle and David had long gone to bed, but Eileen couldn’t shake off the feeling that something wasn’t right between her son and his partner. As Eileen walked towards the living room door, she paused and stared at the framed scan photograph that was sat on the small bookcase. Eileen purposely flicked it off the shelf onto the floor “Oops” She whispered and knelt down to pick up the broken photo frame, Eileen pulled the photograph away from the frame and stared at the date, she sighed and shook her head as she realised that Michelle’s pregnancy was a month further along than Michelle and David had told her.
