2x31: 'You can back away from the baby maker' | Written by Joe | Episode Fifty One At Canvey Island General Hospital, Heather Connor is sleeping awkwardly in a chair beside her twelve year old son Jake’s bedside. Jake, who was also sleeping, slowly begins to stir. Yawning, Jake smiles as he sees his father Michael standing at the door. “You alright mate?” asks Michael as Jake confirms that he is feeling much better after ingesting cocaine five days previously. Michael notices Heather asleep and tenderly pulls the blanket over her to keep her warm. However, Heather wakes and stretches out. “Michael” yawns Heather before turning towards Jake. “Did you sleep well darling? You feeling okay? Was the doctor around?” panics Heather as Michael tries to calm her down. He explains that the doctor has said that Jake has responded well to treatment “He can come home this afternoon” Michael smiles. As Jake gleefully delights at the news, Heather looks at Michael “Where is home?” asks an emotionally exhausted Heather.

“That’s fantastic news, we’ll call over later, bring him some Xbox games or something. Thanks for letting us know Dad.” Josh Connor hangs up the phone as he tells his partner Siobhan Spencer that his younger brother Jake is being discharged from hospital. “Aw, that is good news. Emily will be so relieved, seeing Jake collapse really scared her” Siobhan explains. “Scared us all” Josh answers. “Vicki has a lot of explaining to do” spits Siobhan. “Can we just enjoy this good news without bringing Vicki into it” asks Josh, but the pair are interrupted by Siobhan’s mother Katherine Lavery. “Which one?” asks Katherine as she holds out two jackets, Siobhan happily informs her mother the news about Jake “You must be so pleased” Katherine beams. Siobhan asks her why she needs to pick a jacket. “Duncan and I are going…” begins Katherine. “On a date?” teases Siobhan. “A business seminar on fruit and veg promotion” Katherine responds. “Sounds riveting” Josh smiles. Trying not to laugh, both Josh and Siobhan point towards the red jacket.

Over at the Faraday’s, Duncan Faraday is preparing a cooked breakfast for himself and his granddaughter Mia, while her mother Sophia is talking on the phone to her business partner Cole Donovan “Okay Cole, I understand that you have a lot going on, but so do I…I’m not unreasonable, but…fine okay, I’ll see” Sophia slams her phone on the table as her husband Steven joins the family in the kitchen. Steven awkwardly catches Duncan’s eye as he asks Sophia if she is okay. “Oh just club stuff, Cole needs the day off to take Ava to visit the Portsmouth uni campus, but it just makes my day a whole lot more stressful” sighs Sophia. Steven complains about Sophia putting stress on her body “It’s not good for you know what” Steven winks referring to their baby plans. Duncan glares at Steven in disgust as he remembers Steven’s confession about his affair. Sophia rolls her eyes as Duncan offers to make her some breakfast “I’ve prepared a fruit salad in the fridge” Steven says before Sophia can answer. “It’s meant to be good for fertility” Steven explains. Duncan purses his lips while Mia asks to be excused. As she leaves the room, Mia throws Sophia a look of disgust.

At his flat, Harry Campbell is standing at his kitchen counter looking over towards the sofa where his younger brother Luke is fast asleep. Harry sighed as his phone begins to ring, he tries to quietly answer it in the hallway, but Luke begins to wake up. Yawning, Luke quickly winces in pain and begins to rub his badly bruised back.

“You forgot your lunch” states a heavily pregnant Michelle Fox as she walks into the garage. She hands her fiancé David Fields his sandwich and leans forwards expecting a kiss. However, David leans down and starts talking to her bump. “I’m up here David” storms Michelle in annoyance while David’s apprentice Anthony Spencer laughs. “Can I borrow the credit card?” Michelle asks. “Buying something nice for the baby?” David inquires. Michelle takes the card and smiles “Actually I’m buying something nice for me, a gorgeous leopard print skirt. I need an incentive to get my body back in shape once this little one vacates” As Michelle leaves the garage, David turns towards Anthony “Hormones, you don’t know how lucky you have it with Tate.”
*
Standing at the car outside the Connor home, Heather looks tentatively at Michael. She suddenly smiles as Jake gets out of the car “Happy to be home darling” She asks. “It’s not the same without you” Jake confesses. Heather hugs her son and kisses him on the head as Michael tells them both to get inside out of the cold. As Heather makes up a bed on the sofa for Jake, Michael stops her by taking her hand “Our family is falling apart. Jake is lucky to be alive and Vicki’s out of control” Michael says sadly. “You can’t blame me for all this” replies Heather defensively. Michael shakes his head “I miss you Heather. There I’ve said it. I miss you okay. I’m not going to lie, I’m not over what happened, but I think I’m willing to talk now. See if we can get through this…as a family” concludes Michael. “And where does Imogen fit into all this?” Heather asks “Imogen was what I needed at the time” sighs Michael. “Payback” Heather mutters. “Robert, Imogen, it’s all in the past. This is day one of the future” Michael suggests. Heather leans forwards to kiss Michael, but he takes a step back “I’m not ready for that, not yet. One step at a time Heather” says Michael as Heather smiles.
*
Just outside of Portsmouth near Gunwarf Quays, Michelle pulls over on the side of the side, she pants as she turns off the engine. “Owww” whispers Michelle as she rubs her stomach. Trying to lean over to get her bag, Michelle fails to reach it when she screams out suddenly “Owww!” Getting out of the car, Michelle slowly makes her way around to the other side of the car. Pulling out her handbag, Michelle manages to find her phone and call David, but as she is once again overcome with pain she drops the phone. Michelle leans against the car to ease the pain “Oh crap” Michelle squeals as her waters break, crouching to the floor Michelle grabs her phone only to find it is no longer in service after being soaked.
Driving along the road, Katherine and Duncan are talking about the seminar when they notice Michelle’s car. “Duncan, pull over” Katherine shouts as she sees Michelle doubled over in pain. As Duncan stops the car, Katherine rushes towards Michelle “Call an ambulance Duncan, are you alright darling?” Katherine panics as she kneels down beside Michelle “Do I look alright?” pushes Michelle “Oh my God it hurts” Michelle squeals. Duncan crouches down and asks Michelle if there is anything he can do “You can back away from the baby maker” barks an embarrassed Michelle.
*
At Chemistry, Steven and Mia are greeted by a stressed Sophia “Oh, am I glad to see you” smiles Sophia as she kisses Steven on the lips. “Easy” whispers Steven as he tells Sophia that her fertility peak isn’t until later on in the week. Mia cringes in a mixture of embarrassment and anger “Oh for God’s sake does everything have to be about bloody baby making” snaps Mia. “I’m sorry sweetheart, are we embarrassing you” Steven teases. “Just shut up” Mia lashes out. “Don’t talk to your father like that Mia, apologise” orders Sophia. Mia blushes as she stands in silence “You’re unbelievable. We came here because dad wanted to treat you to dinner. A treat for you, his hardworking, honest, truthful wife. You think I should apologise when you’re the one lying to his face.” Steven looks from Mia to Sophia “What’s she talking about?” asks Steven. Sophia doesn’t answer, Mia shakes her head in disbelief, she grabs Sophia’s handbag from the bar. “Stop Mia, please” pleads Sophia, but Mia is stronger. She throws a box over to Steven “She’s on the pill, she no more wants a baby than I do.”
*
Back at Harry’s flat, Luke is sitting with his feet up watching daytime television while eating cereal. After getting no answers from Luke, Harry escapes into his bedroom and calls his friend Jamie Beresford on the force in London to look into Luke’s life in the capital. Harry sighs as he walks to open the door to the flat, his youngest brother Kyle walks in and delights when he sees Luke. “Alright bruv” Luke tries to laugh even though it hurts his ribs. “Luke?” asks a surprised Kyle. Kyle embraces his brother with a hand shake and then a hug. “Why didn’t you tell me he’s back?” Kyle asks Harry. “Because I’m not sure how long he’s staying” Harry explains. “Make me feel welcome why don’t ya” Luke answers as he sits back down on the sofa and asks Kyle to update him about his life.
*
“Evening Imogen” Heather smirks as she greets Imogen Sandford who is standing at the bar of the Crown and Horseshoe. “Can I have a bottle of Pinot Grigio to take away please?” asks Heather. As barman Tate Yorke goes to get a bottle from the fridge, Imogen turns towards Heather “Drinking alone Heather? First signs of a problem” Imogen taunts “How is life living with your son’s cougar girlfriend?” snipes Imogen. “Drinking alone, there is nothing more sad is there” muses Heather. She smiles as Tate returns “Thank you Tate, this will go lovely with the lamb, Michael’s favourite” Heather adds as she hands Tate a twenty pound note. “Enjoy your evening” Tate smiles as Heather turns to leave “Oh I will. And Imogen, enjoy your drink.”
*
“Steven, please let me explain” pleads Sophia as Steven storms into their house, but he ignores her and rushes up the stairs. “Why would you do that to me Mia? I was going to tell him” Sophia sighs as Mia gets upset “I can’t take all the lies anymore. Dad’s been so excited about having a new baby. It’s all he talks about” Mia tears “I’m sorry mum” Mia whispers. Sophia pulls Mia close to her and tells her that she has no reason to be sorry. “I’m the one who should be sorry, I’m sorry I asked you to keep this secret” whispers Sophia as she then tells Mia to go to her room.
*
Back at the roadside, Katherine is encouraging Michelle as she begins to push “Is there anything I can do?” asks Duncan. “Stay by my head!” Michelle orders in embarrassment. “I think you should go and stand over there Duncan, wait for the ambulance” Katherine suggests. “Come on Michelle, a big push” Katherine encourages as Michelle screams. “I can see the head, you’re doing so well darling, keep pushing.” Duncan sees Michelle hold her hand out and kneels beside her taking her hand “Squeeze as hard as you want” Duncan insists. Screaming out, Michelle gives one final push and sighs in exhaustion as Katherine holds Michelle’s new born baby son.
*
At the Faraday’s home, Steven is standing in the living room, still seething. Sophia nervously joins him “We need to talk” begins Sophia, but Steven doesn’t answer. “You always knew I had reservations about this Steven, I’m not excusing my behaviour, but you wouldn’t listen to me…” Sophia tries to explain. “So this is my fault. I’m forcing you to have a baby you don’t want, I drove you to force our daughter to lie about you taking the pill.” Steven spits. “You’re being dramatic” Sophia exclaims. “You wouldn’t listen Steven, every time I tried to tell you that I didn’t want a baby, you kept pushing and pushing it. You left me with no choice” confesses Sophia. “I didn’t mean to pressure you” admits Steven. “Your need for another baby was so overpowering, I just couldn’t seem to reach you. I didn’t want to hurt you Steven, but I couldn’t see any other way.” Steven takes Sophia’s hand “I still want to have another baby, but I understand that now is probably not the right time” Steven says as Sophia smiles weakly. “I’m not saying I never want to have another child, just not right now.” Sophia kisses Steven carefully on the lips.
*
At Canvey Island General Hospital, an emotional and exhausted Michelle is standing over her baby son’s crib, she looks at her phone and scrolls down the address book until she reaches Steven. Hesitating for a moment, Michelle presses and then holds the phone up to her ear. “Steven, I was hoping you’d answer. I didn’t want to leave this on your voicemail. He’s here. Our son, I just wanted you to know” Michelle quickly ends the call she hears her fiancé David and his mother Eileen greet Duncan and Katherine outside the room. “Where is she?” asks David. “What are you doing here?” puzzles Eileen as she looks Katherine up and down. “Katherine delivered the baby” reveals Duncan proudly. “Oh dear Lord, so the first thing that boy saw was you, poor thing must be traumatised.” Eileen quips. “Why don’t you go and meet your grandson Eileen” advises Katherine. Eileen asks Duncan to join her, he looks over at Katherine. “It’s okay, go on. I’ll get a taxi home” says Katherine. Duncan follows Eileen into Michelle’s room. “Isn’t he beautiful” tears David as he holds the baby boy towards Eileen. “Just perfect” cries Eileen as Duncan awkwardly catches Michelle’s eye.
*
“Steven, I was hoping you’d answer. I didn’t want to leave this on your voicemail. He’s here. Our son, I just wanted you to know.” As the words ring in her ears, Sophia drops Steven’s phone. “You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost” questions Steven as he joins Sophia in their bedroom. Sophia however remains silent as she stares at her husband

2x32: 'Still he keeps her on that pedestal' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty Two It was the morning after the night before, Sophia Faraday sat numb at the breakfast table still reeling from the voicemail she heard on her husband’s phone, the message that informed him that he was the father of a little boy, Michelle Fox’s little boy. Sophia carefully watched the interactions of her family around her. Her sister-in-law Lindsay Faraday was busy finalising the reception details for the Faraday’s vow renewal next week, while Sophia’s daughter Mia finished off her biology homework at the breakfast table. Sophia’s eyes narrowed as her husband Steven walked in and teased Mia about her unfinished homework. “Did you hear the news?” Sophia suddenly spoke up “Michelle had the baby” Lindsay looked up from her phone “That’s good news, I’ll have to text her and say congratulations” Sophia studied Steven’s reaction, the guilt was written all over his face. Sophia closed her eyes tightly and quickly opened them “We’ll have to send Michelle and David a card, David must be so excited, becoming a father for the first time” Sophia spoke carefully to Steven. “Yeah sure” He muttered in reply. Steven soon made his excuses about getting to work early and left. “You and Dad are going to be okay right?” Mia suddenly asked. Sophia stood up and cleared the plates from the table “Hurry up and get that finished Mia” Sophia avoided. Sophia let the plates fall into the sink with a crash, she leant forwards against the counter trying to steady her breathing but found she couldn’t stop shaking.
*
David Fields helped his fiancée Michelle Fox carry out their new baby son Alfie from the cab, nearby Chloe Charles and Olivia Fitzgerald rushed towards the couple excited to see the new baby “Oh he’s gorgeous” Olivia squealed. “Careful Liv, it’ll be you next” David warned light heartedly. Olivia laughed “Not anytime soon” She said “I’ve still got the honeymoon period to enjoy” Chloe and Olivia once again congratulated the couple and left them to settle Alfie into his new home. Michelle smiled as she walked into the living room to find David cradling Alfie in his arms “Being a dad suits you” Michelle sat down next to her boys on the sofa “We’ve just got to hope Steven doesn’t decide he wants to be this little one’s dad” Michelle lightly stroked Alfie’s head and kissed him “Let’s just think about us, our little family.”
*
At his flat, Harry Campbell reached for an apple from the bowl on the counter and walked past the living room, he sighed in annoyance as his noticed his two younger brothers Luke and Kyle sat with their feet up watching the television. “You should be in school” Harry glared at Kyle. “Study period” Kyle shrugged. “Then you should be studying” Harry pointed out. Luke rolled his eyes “Kyle is studying, he is learning from life. Isn’t that what they say nowadays? It’s all about experiencing things for yourself” Harry raised an eyebrow “And what’s Kyle learning right now, how to be unemployed?” Luke sat up “I’m not unemployed, I’m indisposed right now” Luke said, pointing to his ribs. Harry shook his head “Get to school Kyle, the last thing Kayla needs right now is you bunking off and getting into trouble” Harry warned. Kyle sighed and stood up “Let’s have a lift then” Kyle muttered following Harry out the door.

Sophia stood behind the bar in Chemistry, staring into space as she automatically dried the glasses, as she leaned to place one of the glasses on the bar, she missed and it crashed to the floor “Away with the fairies again Soph?” Sophia’s business partner Cole Donovan questioned. “Huh?” Sophia was shook out of her daydream. “Is everything okay? You don’t seem like yourself” Cole pressed as Sophia became teary. Not being able to stop herself, Sophia began to cry. Cole instinctively reached out to Sophia and pulled her into a hug “You can talk to me Sophia; god knows you’ve had to listen to my problems over the last few weeks.” Cole led Sophia towards a booth and sat down next to her. “I can’t” Sophia whispered “If I say the words, it means they’re true” She sniffed. “Whatever it is Sophia, I’ll help you face it” Cole reassured his friend. “Steven cheated on me” Sophia blurted out. “Oh Sophia, I’m sorry” Cole sighed. “It gets worse” Sophia tried to explain, but the words kept getting stuck in her throat “Michelle’s baby…it’s Steven’s.” Sophia’s lip trembled “All this time he’s been going on about having another baby when all this time she’s been pregnant. How could he do this to me Cole? How could he do this to our family?”
*
Vicki Connor stood in the school corridor on her first day back since her suspension; she smiled as her best friend Mia approached her. “You look awful” Mia commented. Vicki frowned “I haven’t been sleeping, I have been worried about my little brother” Vicki reminded her friend. “How is Jake? My mum said he’s home now” Mia asked. Vicki shrugged and remained silent. “Have you seen him?” Mia questioned. “Don’t start Mia” Vicki warned in distress, but as she rushed off she crashed into her boyfriend Kyle Campbell who she hadn’t seen since the day of Kyle’s foster dad’s funeral. “Whoa babes, I know we ain’t seen each other in a while, but don’t get too excited” Kyle teased, but Vicki wasn’t laughing. “I need to get out of here” She gasped. “Your wish is my command” Kyle smiled and took Vicki’s hand pulling her towards the door.
*
Duncan Faraday walked with his son Steven Faraday along the beach, they talked about how Duncan helped to deliver his own grandson “You have to make a decision Steven, that little boy is living down the road. Do you honestly think you can spend the rest of your life watching your son grow up from afar?” Duncan pressed. Steven sighed “How can I choose between my wife and my son?” He questioned in confusion.
*
Cole placed a cup of tea down in front of Sophia who seemed a lot calmer than before. “Thanks” She whispered loudly. “We’re meant to be renewing our vows next week” Sophia sighed. “How am I meant to stand in front of our whole family and promise to be faithful when I know that he obviously can’t keep his trousers on” Sophia took a sip of her tea. “I think you need to decide what you want first Sophia, do you want this to be the end of your marriage?” Cole asked. “I don’t know” Sophia mused “Sixteen years we’ve been together, how I can let go of that?” Cole stood up slowly “I think you need to talk to Steven, look take the night off. Megan’s working tonight and I’ll be back after I visit Naomi, talk to him Sophia” Cole advised before leaving Sophia to think
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Luke couldn’t help but stare at landlady Lindsay Faraday as she collected glasses which she soon noticed “Can I help you with something?” Lindsay asked. “Just admiring the view, if I’d known a small island had so many attractions I would have moved here months ago” He winked, Lindsay laughed at his cheesy forwardness “You need a few more years on the clock for this attraction” She quipped. Luke laughed “I’m sure you could teach me a thing or two” He flirted shamelessly. As Lindsay headed back to the bar, Kyle and Vicki arrived and found Luke at his table, Luke painfully stood up and introduced himself to Vicki. Luke and Vicki soon fell into an easy conversation leaving Kyle to feel left out. Meanwhile, at the bar Imogen Sandford was downing her third glass of red wine “Easy” landlord Daniel Hastings warned as Imogen slammed the glass down on the bar “Another large red wine please barman” Imogen ordered. Daniel shook his head and obliged. As Daniel placed the glass in front of Imogen she began to rant “What do they see in her?” She questioned “Heather bloody Connor, stuck up bitch. She steals my husband and still he keeps her on that pedestal” Daniel sighed “Maybe you should stop focusing on the Connors and start thinking about what you want from your life” Daniel paused for a moment “There’s more to life than revenge.”
*
Steven hesitated as he knocked on the Fields’ door; David sighed in frustration when he answered the door. “I don’t want a fight” Steven specified. He followed David into the living room where Michelle sat with Alfie fast asleep in her arms. Steven was visibly affected and exhaled deeply “This is harder than I thought it would be” He admitted. “Can I hold him?” Steven asked. Michelle looked cautiously at David, who nodded. Michelle awkwardly put Alfie into Steven’s arms “He’s beautiful” Steven whispered. He stared at Alfie for a few moments and then kissed him on the head. He turned towards David and placed him into his arms “I just wanted to say goodbye” He said emotionally. “Are you sure about this Steven?” David questioned “This isn’t a decision you can take back” Michelle spoke up. Steven nodded “This is the way it has to be” Steven said goodbye to David and Michelle and left. Michelle exhaled deeply “Did that really just happen?” She asked. “I think it just did” David placed Alfie into his Moses basket, but as he walked over to Michelle, he noticed her stumble. “Are you okay babe?” David asked reaching out to Michelle. Feeling a little dizzy, Michelle sat down on the sofa “I think so” She whispered “I think everything’s just catching up on me” Michelle rubbed her forehead carefully “It’s been a full on couple of days.”
*
Cole stood awkwardly outside his wife Naomi’s hospital room, he felt nervous after his conversation with Naomi’s psychiatrist Amina Chowdry “Are you sure she wants to see me?” Cole asked Amina once again. Amina nodded “She’s ready” Amina encouraged and supportively guided Cole towards the door. Amina knocked lightly and walked in. Naomi looked up from her book expectantly as Amina brought Cole in. The couple awkwardly exchanged pleasantries and Amina left them alone. Cole sat down on the chair opposite Naomi “How are you?” He asked. Naomi placed her copy of Safe Haven on the table “I’m doing okay” She said carefully “Thanks for the books. I feel like I’m holiday, I never have the time to read anymore” Naomi tried to laugh. “The life of a teacher” Cole teased. As Cole began to fill in Naomi about life on Canvey Island, she began to became emotional as Cole told her about their daughter Ava’s visit to Portsmouth University “I’m missing out on so much” Naomi said sadly. “Ava understands, she’s a good girl you know” Cole tried to be supportive. “I’ve hurt this family so much, I’m so sorry Cole” Cole leaned towards Naomi and took her hands “You’re not well Naomi, but you’re getting the help you need and that’s all that matters” Naomi pulled Cole’s hands to her face and kissed them “It will all stop now, the letters and everything. I can see things more clearly now, I have been punishing myself for letting you go to prison for me, but we’ve all suffered for long enough. I want to be me again” Naomi explained sadly. “You will be Naomi, I promise.”
*
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel had finished clearing up and found himself having to wake up a drunken Imogen. He placed a cup of coffee down on the table in front of her; she squinted as she tried to pick up the cup. After a sip, Imogen stood up clumsily “I should get home” But she fell over a stool and landed on the floor, Daniel helped her up “I think you should stay here tonight” Imogen giggled “I hope you’re not trying to take advantage of me Mr Hastings” Daniel guided Imogen upstairs to the flat and helped her into his bed. “Where are you going?” Imogen questioned as Daniel walked towards the door. “I’m sleeping on the sofa” He explained. Imogen sighed “You’re just like them all” She blurted out “I’ve lost everyone, nobody wants to know me anymore” She said sadly. Daniel leaned against the door frame “You don’t give anyone a chance Imogen.” Daniel admitted, but there was no response from Imogen as she passed out.
*
Luke, Vicki and Kyle drunkenly stumbled across Palmers Street towards Harry’s flat “Are you sure Harry won’t mind me staying?” Vicki asked. “Not at all” Luke lied. “I told you Vic, you can stay at mine” Kyle chimed in. Vicki shook her head, but it was Luke who spoke “I don’t think Kayla would be up for that.” As they walked into the empty flat, Vicki straight away fell on to the sofa and soon fell asleep. Luke and Kyle made their way into the kitchen where Kyle questioned Luke’s interest in Vicki. “She’s my girlfriend Luke” Kyle pointed out. Luke carefully put his arm around Kyle “We’re just picking up where we left off in London last year before Mum ruined our system with her selfishness” Luke spat. “She got sent to rehab” Kyle reminded his older brother. Luke’s eyes darkened “Don’t forget where you stand little brother” Luke leaned in close to Kyle “You picked a good one, now it’s time for me to take over.” Luke warned.

Sophia was sat alone in the Faraday’s living room as Steven arrived home; he turned on the lamp and sat down next to his wife, pulling her into a hug. “You seem sad” Steven whispered. “So do you” Sophia answered as she quickly wiped away a tear so that Steven couldn’t see her upset. “I’m so sorry Sophia” Steven spoke honestly. Sophia sharply inhaled “What for?” She asked, wondering if Steven was going to finally tell her the truth. Sophia waited patiently for Steven to admit to his affair, but the words didn’t come. “I’ve treated you so badly Sophia, I put so much pressure on you to have another baby when I should have been supporting you” Steven confided, he pulled Sophia’s hands into his “It’s going to be different now Soph, I promise. I really think renewing our vows can be a new start for us. I love you Sophia and I will do everything I possibly can to make you happy.” Steven promised

2x33: 'A remake of Pretty Woman if I ever saw one' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Fifty Three Canvey High Street seemed full of colour as Valentine’s Day took over the small island. Outside the Last Minute Supermarket, manager Katherine Lavery decided to take advantage of the lover’s holiday by advertising a pricey deal on beautiful red roses “I’ll take one of those” Luke Campbell smiled as he pulled out one of the long stemmed roses, he handed Katherine a twenty pound note and winked “Keep the change love.” As Luke walked away, a taxi pulled up outside the small shop and a woman rolled down the window “Excuse me” She called out “I was wondering if you could help me? I’m looking for Canvey Crescent” Natalie Hunt asked politely. Katherine smiled and introduced herself. She explained to Natalie and the taxi driver how to get to the crescent “Actually, I don’t suppose you got a reasonably priced bottle of champers in there?” Natalie asked, getting out of the taxi and following Katherine into the shop “I’m Maid of Honour” Natalie explained “Well if you can call it Maid of Honour seeing as the couple are already married” Natalie laughed. “You’re not talking about Sophia and Steven are you?” Katherine inquired. Natalie nodded as Katherine held out a bottle of champagne towards her “Have this one on me, I’ll see you later at the vows” Katherine smiled. Meanwhile, on Canvey Crescent, Sophia Faraday was hiding around the side of the Faraday house smoking a cigarette “Since when did you smoke?” Sophia’s friend and business partner Cole Donovan asked as he put last night’s rubbish into the Donovan wheelie bin. “My first cigarette in over five years” Sophia sighed. “I can’t seriously believe you’re going through with this without speaking to Steven first” Cole commented. “I know what I’m doing Cole” Sophia maintained. “It will eat away at you Soph, maybe not now, maybe not in a few months’ time, but eventually it will all blow up” Sophia finished her cigarette and stubbed it out against the wall. Without another word, Sophia walked around to the front of the house “There’s the bride to be” an excited Natalie squealed as she dragged her suitcase along the driveway “Oh babes, you look awful, we’ll have to do something about those bags under your eyes, they’re not exactly Gucci."
*
“Shouldn’t you be getting ready Ma?” David Fields questioned his mother Eileen as she paced around the living room holding baby Alfie. “How can I concentrate on getting ready when I have this beautiful little man requiring my attention?” Eileen cooed over the baby “They already got married once, why go through all the hassle all over again, surely the presents aren’t worth that much” Eileen reluctantly handed over Alfie to David “Duncan wants you there today” David pointed out. “I thought you didn’t approve” Eileen teased. “I don’t like his son, but Duncan is actually a nice enough guy” David admitted as his fiancée Michelle Fox walked in carrying a bottle “How’s my gorgeous boy?” Michelle smiled. “I’m fine babe, but what about Alfie?” David teased as he took the bottle from Michelle. “Oh look at you two, what a picture” Eileen beamed as she walked towards the door. Michelle’s smile faltered as she gently rubbed her forehead “Are you alright babe?” David asked noting Michelle’s discomfort. “Yeah I’m fine, just a little tired” She muttered as she smiled at the sight of David and Alfie together.
*
Cole and his daughter Ava sat in the Donovan’s living room with Olivia Fitzgerald and her husband Matthew. Cole had explained how Naomi was beginning to come to terms with her illness and had begun to take responsibility for the stalking. “We should have seen this coming” Olivia sighed sadly “I feel like I’ve failed her” She said as Matthew put his arm around her. “We’ve all failed her” Ava snapped causing Cole to frown. “It’s true Dad, all this time Mum has been going crazy and we were all too wrapped up in our own stuff to notice” Ava ranted. “What’s done is done now, the most important thing is that we’re all here to support Naomi” Matthew spoke up; Olivia smiled at her husband, thankful for his show of support. “Cheers mate” Cole appreciated Matthew’s concern “This is a new beginning for us all, there’s a long way to go, but now Naomi has taken responsibility for what’s happened she can start to come to terms with everything she’s been through”

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel Hastings had roped in his daughter Megan Donovan to help finish decorating the pub in time for the reception that afternoon. With help from barmaid Chloe Charles, Megan pinned up the beautifully handmade banner above the bar “This is stunning Megan, did you design this yourself?” Chloe asked, impressed by Megan’s handiwork. Megan nodded as Daniel walked past “My little girl has always been one of the creative types” He smiled proudly. Walking sheepishly into the pub Imogen Sandford approached Daniel “I’m sorry about the other night” She apologised referring to her drunken behaviour. “I thought you were a bit embarrassed when I woke up to find the bed empty” Catching Daniel’s last line “Whose bed?” Megan questioned. Daniel frowned “Stop being nosy and go finish stocking up the white wine” Megan rolled her eyes and left them alone “I can usually handle my drink” Imogen explained. “It happens to us all” Daniel smiled “Do you have anything planned later?” Daniel suddenly asked. Imogen shook her head and asked why. “I have to be at this vow thing, best man duty” Daniel explained “Maybe you could be my date?” Daniel asked, Imogen broke into a smile “That would be nice.”

Vicki Connor yawned as she poured herself a coffee from Harry Campbell’s pot, Harry sighed as he walked into the kitchen to find Vicki comfortably sat at the table. He frowned as he went to pour himself a coffee and found the pot empty. Shaking his head, he walked towards the hallway as his brother Luke arrived home “One night I said as a favour for Kyle” Harry snapped. “Leave the girl alone she has nowhere else to go” Luke replied. “She has a family, let them keep her” Harry retorted. “Listen bruv, it’s just for another night or two, I have it all worked out” Luke promised as Harry grumpily headed out to work. Luke smiled as he walked into the kitchen and placed a red rose down in front of Vicki “Happy Valentine’s Day, thought you could do with cheering up” Luke charmed. “It’s more than what your brother’s got me, he ain’t even bothered to text me this morning” Vicki complained. “Yeah well, Kyle’s not exactly the romantic type” Luke replied.

Inside Faraday’s Restaurant, Steven Faraday stood with his father Duncan “What do you think?” Steven asked as he showed his father the rose petal aisle leading to the front of the restaurant “I still think you should have went for the church” Duncan pointed out gruffly “Although I don’t think the man up there would approve of you making your vows under a lie” Steven groaned “You said I had to make a decision and I’ve done that, it’s time to move on” Steven explained as he thought about Alfie sadly. “I still think you should have been honest with Sophia” Duncan picked up the order of service and stared at the photograph of the couple on their wedding day “It would ruin everything Dad, I won’t lose Sophia, not now” Steven promised. “I’ve always been proud of you son, but today, I don’t even recognise the man you are” Duncan said sadly before leaving Steven alone in the restaurant.

Sophia felt suffocated as Natalie and her sister-in-law Lindsay Faraday cracked open the champagne, Sophia’s daughter Mia cheekily asked her aunt to pour her a glass, while beautician Olivia arrived to do Sophia’s hair and make-up. As Natalie told Lindsay stories about Sophia’s party girl days, Sophia sat silently in her chair, not taking in anyone’s conversation. “Oh I went over to see baby Alfie yesterday” Olivia suddenly mentioned “He is absolutely gorgeous, spitting image of Michelle. I can’t quite see much of David in him yet though…” Sophia suddenly stood up and poured herself another glass of champagne, she quickly downed the glass and began to walk towards the door. “Where are you going?” Mia questioned. “I need some fresh air” Sophia muttered before leaving the women sat open mouthed, surprised by her exit.

Josh Connor laughed as his mother Heather took in a tray of scrambled eggs to his younger brother Jake “He’s taking advantage” Josh teased as Jake light heartedly poked his tongue out. “Leave him alone, he’s still fragile” Heather smiled as she walked back into the kitchen. “I’m glad you’re home Mum” Josh suddenly said. “Me too sweetheart” Heather responded. “Now all we need is Vicki and then things can go back to normal again” Josh hinted. Heather sighed “I don’t know how to help her anymore Josh, she still hasn’t forgiven me about Robert and after what happened to Jake, how can I risk having her in the house?” Heather explained, feeling torn. “You can’t give up on her, she’s lost Mum and she needs us” Josh pressed giving Heather food for thought
An emotional Sophia stood outside the Fields home; she paced the pathway before looking up at the house, feeling physically sick at the thought of her husband’s child being on the other side of the door. Sophia felt her phone vibrate in her handbag, she checked who was calling and then quickly cancelled the call. Taking a deep breath, Sophia stormed towards the house and knocked hard on the front door. Sophia turned her back as she waited for an answer. Michelle opened the door, holding Alfie in her arms. “I thought it was about time I met my step-son” Sophia said coldly as she turned towards Michelle. Michelle’s face fell as she struggled to comprehend the realisation that Sophia finally knew the truth “Sophia please…” Michelle whispered. Sophia’s eyes narrowed “Please what? Please come in…don’t mind if I do, you don’t want the neighbours to hear all about your dirty little secret” Sophia walked into the house and made her way into the lounge, Michelle followed and lay Alfie into his Moses’ basket “Don’t you just love that smell? That smell only a new baby can achieve” Sophia mused as she picked up Alfie’s blanket and placed it on the sofa. “I am so sorry” Michelle offered as Sophia put her hand up to indicate Michelle to stop “You sleep with my husband, get pregnant and lie about who the father is, a simple apology won’t make this mess go away Michelle. It won’t even scratch the surface” Sophia fought back the tears; she refused to cry in front of her husband’s mistress. “I made a mistake, Steven and I made a huge mistake” Michelle pleaded. “Oh I think you and Steven made multiple mistakes, but then who’s counting?” Sophia spat. “You have no idea what you’ve done. You’re a cheap, nasty little whore and you’ve ruined my marriage and my family” Sophia snapped as she walked towards Michelle and slapped her hard across the face “Your apology Michelle, in all its sincerity, just like you, can go to hell.”

Chrissie Campbell and her wife Jay Willis arrived at the Macey house “Mum” Molly smiled as she hugged Chrissie. Chrissie whistled as a glamorously dressed Kayla Macey walked into the living room. “Looking hot Kayla” Jay winked, as Kayla thanked her cautiously. “I’m just heading out” Kayla explained as she told them about the vow renewal. “Kayla, I was just wondering if I could have a quick word with you before you go” Chrissie asked softly. Chrissie followed Kayla into the kitchen “I have really loved staying with you and getting to know the twins again, I’ve really appreciated you allowing me into your home and your life. I’ve done a lot of bad things in my life, I’ve let my children down more times than I care to remember and second chances for people like me don’t come along too often, but I’ve got one Kayla, this is my second chance” Chrissie explained “Jay and I have decided that we want to move to Canvey Island permanently.” As the silence filled the room, Kayla let a tear fall down her cheek as she turned to face Chrissie “I don’t know what you want me to say Chrissie, the twins have been my rock since…” Kayla let the sentence trail off “I need them” Chrissie smiled sympathetically and walked towards Kayla “I’m not moving to Canvey Island to take the twins away from you Kayla, I’m moving so I can be closer to my kids and I’m hoping you can help me as well. Molly and Kyle love you; you’ve been a mother to them when I couldn’t. I’ll never forget you for that and I don’t think my kids will either” Chrissie said softly as Kayla thanked her.

“What do you want?” Vicki snapped as she opened Harry’s front door to find her mother Heather standing on the doorstep. Heather explained she needed to talk to her about what happened to Jake. “You’d better come in then” Vicki sighed. Heather disapprovingly looked around the male dominated flat and raised an eyebrow as she spotted Luke wearing nothing but a towel. “Nearly caught me in my birthday suit” Luke teased. “Lucky me” Heather swiped sarcastically. Vicki introduced her mother to Luke “Please to meet you Mrs C” Luke smiled. “I’m sure. Vicki, if I could have a word in private please” Heather asked. “Did the air just become icy cold in here or is it just me?” Luke questioned as Vicki told him to go and get his shower. Vicki led Heather into the living room, but what they didn’t realise was that Luke hovered in front of the closed door and listened to their every word. “I can’t forgive what happened to Jake, but you’re my daughter Vicki, I want us to find a way back” Heather explained. “I am so sorry about what happened to Jakey, I never meant for it to happen” Vicki offered a genuine apology to her mother. “I know you didn’t darling and I know you would never intentionally hurt your brother, but these drugs, this lifestyle, it needs to stop” Heather pleaded. “Well that didn’t take long did it?” Vicki snapped standing up from the sofa in distress “Passing judgement on my life when you’ve made such a success of your own. You’ve got a nerve, I want you to leave.” Heather begged Vicki to hear her out, but Vicki remained stubborn. “You will always have a family that you love Vicki, a home where you can come to when you need us. I’m not giving up on you Vic” Heather assured her daughter. “That’s too bad because I’ve given up on you.”

At Faraday’s Restaurant, Steven waited anxiously for a very late Sophia “Maybe she’s had second thoughts” Duncan whispered “Just drop it Dad” Steven ordered as he spotted his daughter Mia arriving with Lindsay and Natalie “What’s going on? Where’s Sophia?” Steven panicked as he rushed towards the women. Mia explained that Sophia went out for some air earlier and they haven’t seen her since. “I thought she’d be here already, but then again Phil always did like to make an entrance” Natalie joked as she confirmed that Phil was Sophia’s nickname from their teenage years. Steven found his phone and quickly called Sophia. Meanwhile, Daniel made his way over to Imogen and kissed her on the cheek “You look stunning” He complimented. “Look at your Mum, a remake of Pretty Woman if I ever saw one” Tate Yorke joked as he elbowed his boyfriend Anthony Spencer. Anthony laughed as Eileen leant back and asked what the joke was. “She’s not answering” Steven worried. Duncan caught the eye of Katherine and her daughter Siobhan Spencer as they walked into the restaurant “I thought this was just for family and close friends” Eileen commented. “Katherine is a close friend Eileen” Duncan snapped. “You’d think she would have made an effort for the occasion then.” Duncan shook his head in annoyance at Eileen’s taunts. “Phil” Natalie smiled as everyone turned to find Sophia stood in the doorway wearing a beautiful, yet subtle cream dress. “You know me, always like to make an entrance” Sophia smiled. “Let’s get this party started” Natalie laughed. As the guests took their seats, Steven and Sophia shared a charged moment.

At Harry’s flat, a tearful Vicki sat on the sofa as Luke walked in with a cup of tea. He delicately asked if she was okay. “What do you think?” Vicki snapped “Kyle hasn’t even bothered to text me and my family don’t even want to know me.” Luke sat down next to Vicki and put his arm around her “Well that’s not quite true, your Mum was here earlier” Luke reasoned, but Vicki soon cut him off “She only came over to rip apart my life and criticise everything that I do.” Vicki complained. “You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends and I’m here if you ever need to talk” Luke offered. Vicki smiled appreciatively “You’re the first person in a long time who’s just taken me as I am. Not tried to change me or…” Vicki spoke honestly. “You don’t know about me, my past. I like that, I feel like I can be the person that I want to be when I’m around you. I feel like I’ve been lost for so long, but when I’m with you, I feel like I can be me again” Vicki slowly and hesitantly leaned towards Luke, who responded by kissing Vicki tenderly on the lips.

“We are finally gathered here today” Reverend Holden joked in reference to Sophia’s timekeeping. “Bride’s prerogative” Sophia smiled. “I forgive you” Steven whispered as Sophia stared at him knowingly. Steven took Sophia’s hand and kissed it as Reverend Holden spoke “Steven and Sophia have chosen to write their own vows, would you like to begin Steven?” Reverend Holden passed Steven a microphone “Sophia Phillips, when you agreed to be my wife, I couldn’t believe my luck. An average guy like me pulling a cracker like you” Steven joked as the guests laughed. “But you did, you picked me and I’ve never been happier. I love you now just as much as I did all those years ago. Every day has been a gift and today I offer you a gift of my own. The gift of my love, trust, honesty and fidelity, Sophia I offer you everything I have and more, I love you” Steven smiled as Sophia took the microphone. “I’m not as good with words as you are Steven. It’s something that I have always envied about you, the way you can use words to convey what you’re thinking. I’m not very good, but here it goes” Sophia began. “I remember the first time you proposed to me; I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. I was going to be Sophia Faraday. I was so excited as I planned our future together, I never thought it would end” Sophia’s voice became cold as Steven stared at her. “But it has because you can’t offer me your love and fidelity, can you Steven? I loved you with all my heart, with every fibre of my being and you couldn’t return it” Sophia said as she pushed back the tears. Sophia turned to face the guests who were sat staring at the couple in confusion. “You see everyone there’s not going to be a wedding today. Quite the opposite” Sophia pulled out an envelope from her handbag which was on the counter, she held it towards Steven “I had Heather Connor draw up a petition for a divorce, on the grounds of screwing Michelle Fox and getting her pregnant” Sophia announced bitterly as she exposed Steven and Michelle’s secret to their family and friends

2x34: 'Revenge isn't always sweet' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Fifty Four In the now empty Faraday’s Restaurant, Sophia Faraday sat leaning up against the counter drinking from a glass of red wine. She wiped her tears as her now estranged husband Steven re-read the divorce papers his wife had just served him during their vow renewal ceremony. Sophia stood up and began to walk towards the door “I need to go and check on Mia” Sophia whispered loudly. “We need to talk first” Steven replied. “We have nothing left to talk about Steven” Sophia said coldly. “Nothing left to discuss? How about we start with our marriage…our daughter” Sophia soon cut off Steven “Our daughter? Don’t you dare bring Mia into this, were you thinking of our daughter when you were screwing that pale faced bitch” Sophia slammed as Steven hung his head. “We need to talk about this calmly” Steven pleaded. “Oh I am calm Steven, really calm now. You have no idea how it felt to hear that voicemail, that message telling you about your little bundle of joy, you’re damn lucky I’m not wearing your family jewels as earrings” Sophia lashed out. “Michelle and I were something of nothing, it meant nothing” Steven tried to explain “Tell that to your son” Sophia spat as she turned away from Steven. Steven walked towards her and placed his hand on her shoulder “Don’t touch me” She ordered. “I am so sorry Sophia, please if you believe anything, believe that I am truly sorry for what I’ve done” Steven reached out towards Sophia, but she pushed him away “Sorry you got caught” She said coldly.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Tate Yorke and his boyfriend Anthony Spencer were joined by Anthony’s step-mother Siobhan. “I’m not surprised he strayed” Tate confessed “I mean, that Sophia looks like she’s got a poker stuck up her…” Anthony interrupted “Answer me this babe, would you stray?” Anthony teased as Tate kissed him lightly on the lips. “Why would I want to do that when I have everything I want in you?” Tate smiled. “We don’t know what was going on in the Faraday’s marriage, no one ever knows what goes on behind closed door” Siobhan explained “It’s that age old question, what do we really know about our neighbours?” Siobhan mused before telling the boys that they shouldn’t be gossiping. Across the bar, Imogen Sandford enjoyed a glass of champagne as she was joined by Daniel Hastings, he gently kissed Imogen on the cheek. “So, does this mean the buffet is off then?” Imogen asked as Daniel shook his head in disbelief. Meanwhile, as barmaid Chloe Charles took her break, she joined her best friend Olivia Fitzgerald with two glasses of champagne “Get this down you before the Faraday’s arrive and confiscate it” Chloe joked, but Olivia declined. “Really? Liv, it’s champagne, you being off champagne is like a nun finding out she’s pregnant…shocking” Chloe teased, but became quiet as she noticed the expression on Olivia’s face “You’re not are you?” Chloe questioned. “I don’t know” Olivia answered “I’m late.” Olivia admitted.

“Please don’t leave me Sophia, we can sort this. I can make this right, tell me how to make this right” Steven pleaded as he stopped Sophia from opening the restaurant door. Sophia turned to face her husband and began to cry “We can’t fix this Steven. I don’t know how you can make this better, I can’t see any light” Sophia confessed. Steven stroked Sophia’s face and pulled her closer to him “There will be light again Sophia, we can find it, we can fix this together” Steven begged and pleaded with Sophia to give him another chance. He leant in closer and began to kiss Sophia on the lips, she pushed him away “For every little bit of light we find, there will always be this shadow. There will always be Michelle Fox living in the next street with your son” Sophia moved away from Steven “You betrayed me Steven, in the worst possible way. I can’t see us finding a way back from this” Sophia admitted. “Before I met you I never thought I would get married and settle down, but I fell in love with you Steven, so deeply in love that everything I thought I wanted faded, I knew that I had everything if I had you” Sophia explained. “You still have me” Steven promised, but Sophia shook her head “No I don’t. I don’t even now you anymore because that Steven that I fell in love with would never have done this to me” Sophia cried. “Michelle was an escape; things weren’t great between us Sophia. A year ago we were barely talking, barely even sharing the same bed” Steven tried to explain. “So Michelle gave you what I wouldn’t” Sophia shook her head in anger. “I was lonely Soph. She reached out and I was weak. Too weak to resist, too weak to realise what I was risking” Sophia closed her eyes and let a single tear escape. She turned to face Steven and whispered coldly “Well, you’ve made your bed, go and sleep with Michelle in it now.” Steven pulled Sophia back “You’re not the only wounded party in this you know, you’ve lied as well Sophia” Steven pointed out “You got our daughter to lie for you, not exactly Snow White” Sophia turned and slapped Steven around the face “How dare you Steven, what I did isn’t even in the same league.” Sophia paced the room “I’m just so damn lucky I did stay on the pill” Sophia barked. “I’m just saying Sophia, we’ve both made mistakes” Steven tried to explain. “Our marriage is over Steven, you need to make peace with that because I sure as hell have.”

At the Macey house, Chrissie Campbell jumped in fright as her wife Jay Willis popped open some non-alcoholic champagne. “Quick give me your glasses” Jay shouted as the bubbles overflowed out of the bottle. Her step-daughter Molly rushed over with a couple of glasses as Molly’s foster mother Kayla Macey walked in “That was a quick wedding” Jay commented. “But a long story” Kayla laughed as Molly gave her a glass. “A toast to new beginnings” Jay smiled as she raised her glass “And to absent friends” Chrissie offered. Molly put her arm around Kayla affectionately “Today is about moving forwards. Not forgetting Patrick, but moving forwards in his honour. This is a new and fresh start for us all, so let’s all raise our glasses to moving forward” Kayla smiled confidently as she raised her glass to Chrissie, Jay and Molly.

“Thank you” Matthew Fitzgerald smiled as he stood at the reception desk at the secure unit where Naomi Donovan was staying. “Now, please keep your visitor badge on at all times” The Staff Nurse Morris explained. The nurse was at least sixty years old and had definitely seen better days. “I wouldn’t dream of crossing such a charming lady like yourself” Matthew charmed as Staff Nurse Morris took Matthew along the corridor towards Naomi’s room. She explained that Naomi wasn’t expecting any visitors that day so she would be delighted with some company. Matthew placed a bag of grapes on Naomi’s dressing table as he entered the room. “Matthew” Naomi whispered in surprise. “I just wanted to see how you are Naomi” Matthew explained as he backed away. “I know, it’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting to see anyone today least of all you, not after everything I have put you through” Naomi explained softly. “Please sit down” Naomi asked. Matthew sat down next to Naomi as they admired the view out of the window. “With views this good, maybe I should think about having a breakdown” Matthew foolishly joked before apologising to Naomi for being insensitive. “Matthew, you’ll never know how sorry I am about what I did you and Olivia. I ruined your wedding day, I can’t apologise enough” Naomi offered genuinely as she took hold of Matthew’s hand. “That’s all in the past now Naomi. It’s all forgiven, now all we want is for you to get better and come home to us” Matthew said gently. Naomi stood up and poured a glass of water for them both. “I have my review in a few days so I could be home as early as next week” Naomi said positively. “Next week?” Matthew questioned with a startled look on his face. “That soon” Naomi smiled as she held the glass out to Matthew. “Well, we can’t have that now can we” Matthew’s demeanour changed as he callously glared at Naomi.

Steven and Sophia sat side by side on the restaurant floor, both physically and emotionally drained. “I don’t wanna fight anymore Soph” Steven said, breaking the silence. Sophia agreed. “We had our good times, didn’t we?” Steven smiled wistfully. “Too many” Sophia confirmed as she joked about Steven wearing odd socks. “I don’t wear odd socks” Steven said as Sophia lifted the legs of his trousers to confirm she was telling the truth. They both laughed “Well you always slurp your tea” Steven pointed out. “You always make it too hot” Sophia laughed, but her smile faded as Steven went on to say that he would never forgive himself for hurting her. “I’ll always blame myself for this; I really thought we’d grow old together.” Steven says emotionally. “Growing old is overrated” Sophia teased. However, Steven couldn’t smile. “It wasn’t just you Steven, you said it yourself, we’ve both made mistakes. Maybe if I hadn’t been so focused on the restaurant and then the club… I don’t know, our marriage died a long time ago, maybe even before you and Michelle. I’m not without blame here either, but it is over Steven.” Sophia tearfully took off her wedding ring, opened Steven’s hand and placed the ring on the palm of his hand. “We both need to move on” Sophia confirmed. “I don’t want to, not without you” Steven pleaded. “Please Steven; don’t make this any harder than it as to be.” Sophia stood up and began to walk towards the door. With tears streaming down her face, Sophia left the restaurant and Steven behind
Luke Campbell opened the front door of his older brother Harry’s flat to find Kyle, his younger brother standing holding a bunch of red roses. “A bit cliché aren’t they bruv?” Luke quipped. Kyle frowned at the sight of his brother barely clothed and wondered where his girlfriend Vicki Connor was. Wearing nothing but Luke’s shirt, Vicki emerged from the bedroom and stood next to Luke. Kyle looked from his girlfriend to his brother “Tell me you didn’t” He shook his head as he questioned his brother. “Bruv” Luke walked towards Kyle, but Kyle floored him with a punch. Vicki screamed and rushed to Luke’s side “Get lost Kyle” She lashed out as she lightly touched Luke’s face. “People warned me you were a slag” Kyle spat towards Vicki. “And people warned me you were just a little boy, well guess what Kyle, I upgraded to a real man” She lashed out cruelly. “You have no idea what you’re getting involved with…” Kyle snarled, but Luke soon cut him off. Luke furiously pushed Kyle out of the flat and threw him to the pavement. “I told you Vicki was different” Kyle lashed out as he stood up and pushed Luke, however Luke soon got the upper hand and pinned Kyle up against the wall “Vicki is nothing to you now” Luke warned. “I won’t let you do to her what you did to the others, I’ll tell her everything” Kyle threatened as Luke twisted his arm further, Kyle screeched in pain. “You think this hurts little brother, this is nothing compared to what my boss will do to you” Luke warned “Stay away from Vicki” Luke spat and let go leaving Kyle breathing heavily holding his shoulder.

Michelle Fox lay in her fiancé David Fields’ arms as he comforted her after she explained about her visit from Sophia “The look on her face David, I’ve never seen that much hate before” Michelle sighed “Do you think I’m a bad person?” Michelle asked as she sat up. David smiled softly and kissed Michelle on the lips “We both lied Michelle; I know this situation is a mess, but we’re all to blame. You, me and Steven. Maybe Sophia finding out the truth isn’t such a bad thing, we can start again, no more lies” David said as Michelle rested her head on his shoulder “That’s easy to say, but tomorrow we have to face the world” David stroked Michelle’s hair “That’s tomorrow’s problem” David whispered.
*
Sophia walked into her daughter Mia’s bedroom and found her crying on her bed “I’m so sorry Mia” Sophia whispered as she sat down on the end of the bed. Mia sat up; her face tear stained “What for Mum?” Mia asked coldly. “Humiliating Dad or for humiliating me?” Sophia tried to reach towards Mia, but she pushed her away “He wasn’t thinking of me when he got my Drama teacher pregnant and you weren’t thinking of me when you announced it to the world” Mia lashed out and stood up. “Mia where are you going? We have to talk about this” Sophia pleaded, but Mia refused and stormed past Sophia’s friend Natalie Hunt on the way out of the house. Natalie found Sophia sitting on Mia’s bed in shock “Oh babes, why didn’t you tell me?” Natalie asked as she sat down next to Sophia. She put her arm around her friend and comforted her as she began to cry. “I thought it would make me feel better” Sophia admitted. “Revenge isn’t always sweet” Natalie said softly. “All I’ve done is hurt all the people that I care about” Sophia cried as she sat staring into space. “You’ll get through this Soph, you’re one of the strongest people I know” Natalie said supportively.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Harry Campbell sighed as he finally reached the bar “Pint please Chlo” He asked as Chloe asked about his day “A very long day” He admitted. As Chloe poured his drink, Harry looked a little nervous “Did you hear Bastille are playing Portsmouth in a few weeks?” Harry asked suddenly. “I know I tried to get tickets for me and Olivia, but they sold out pretty quick” Chloe said. Harry pulled out two tickets from his jacket pocket “I know I’m not quite as pretty as Olivia, but will I do?” Chloe took the tickets and squealed “Olivia will totally kill me for going without her” Harry smiled. “Going without me where?” Olivia suddenly appeared. Harry excused himself and sat with his mother Chrissie in the corner. “Did you take the test?” Chloe asked. Olivia warned Chloe to keep her voice down “Not yet” Olivia admitted. “You have to find out sooner or later” Chloe pressed. Meanwhile, Jay and Kayla brought the drinks over where Chrissie, Molly and Harry were sitting and continued their celebrations. Kayla noticed Kyle’s bad mood as he entered the pub, but he refused to open up about what was bothering him. At the bar, Lindsay Faraday stood with her father Duncan and his friend Katherine Lavery “Did you know about it Dad?” Lindsay questioned. Duncan shrugged and then nodded as Lindsay stared at him in disapproval. “I don’t know what Michelle was playing at, pretending David was the father of her baby” Katherine mused. “My son was doing his best in a bad situation” Duncan’s partner Eileen Fields defended her son “Bad situation? A bad situation is forgetting to pay the gas bill…” Katherine began, but Duncan cut her off. “What’s done is done” Duncan muttered as he noticed Mia walk into the pub. He stood up and walked over to comfort his granddaughter.

Naomi and Matthew stood facing each other; Naomi stared at the hardened expression on Matthew’s face. “Matthew” She whispered. He walked towards her and Naomi stepped back feeling intimidated. “I don’t understand” Naomi frowned in confusion. “We can’t have you going back to your happy pathetic little life, not after everything you have done” Matthew glared at Naomi. Matthew walked towards Naomi’s dressing table and threw it across the room, picking up a chair Matthew sent it crashing into the large mirror on the wall, shattering it over the floor. Naomi begged Matthew to stop, but he just sneered at her “You ruin people Naomi. You ruined Cole’s life by sending him to prison and then you ruined mine” Matthew spat. “It was you, all this time” Naomi said emotionally. Matthew remained silent “You let me think I was crazy, you let me think I was the one…” Naomi let the sentence trail off. “Poor deluded Naomi, you’re the one who needs to stop. You have to stop accusing me of stalking you; you have to calm down Naomi. Please…” Matthew’s tone turned from callous to fearful as he picked up a shard of glass and cut his own face “Please Naomi, you have to stop” Matthew shouted loudly and hit the panic alarm that was on the wall. Naomi screamed at Matthew to stop as the nurses rushed into the room “No! It was him! Naomi protested in horror “Please, no, no. I’m not crazy; please don’t do this to me. Matthew! Tell them!” Naomi screamed as a doctor rushed into the room and ushered Matthew out of the room. Matthew held his sleeve up to his bleeding face and watched through the window as Naomi was sedated.
A montage began as Michelle sang to Alfie as he lay in his crib, in the living room David sat with a beer smiling as he could hear Michelle’s voice echo from the bedroom. At Faraday’s Restaurant, Steven sat alone at the bar with a glass of whisky; he stared at Sophia’s wedding ring that lay flat down on the bar. Over at the Crown and Horseshoe, Chloe and Harry talked excitedly about their first date, while Natalie arrived at the pub with Sophia, friends and family flocked towards her to check if she was okay. At the snooker table, Anthony and Tate played against Molly and Mia, the teenagers trying to take Mia’s mind off of her parent’s troubles. Luke and Vicki walked into the pub and Luke soon caught the eye of his mother Chrissie, for the first time in over a year, mother and son locked eyes. Chrissie glared at Luke for a moment before turning away from him coldly. Behind the bar, Imogen stood with Daniel, both laughing as they kissed, Daniel’s daughter Megan looked on awkwardly while in the toilets, Olivia sat in a cubicle alone, staring at the pregnancy test in front of her. Meanwhile, her husband Matthew stood outside the pub, ready to continue playing his role.
The montage faded into Alfie’s bedroom as Michelle hovered over his crib; she smiled as she fondly stroked her son’s hair and wished him a good night. Stepping back from the crib, Michelle stumbled backwards as the room began to spin; her hand reached her head as she felt a shooting pain. Losing her balance, Michelle fell to the ground. From the living room, David heard the crash and rushed towards the bedroom “Michelle, are you okay?” He questioned as he found Michelle on the floor. Rushing to her side, David pulled Michelle closer to him and turned her face towards him “Michelle, babe” He pleaded as her face became pale “Michelle, please wake up, babe please” David begged, shaking Michelle in attempt to wake her up, David’s own hands were shaking as he realised that Michelle had stopped breathing “No, please Michelle, baby come back to me” David begged, but it was too late. Michelle was already gone. The scene fades into a memory of David and Michelle smiling as they brought Alfie home from hospital, David pulled Michelle into a kiss as the scene then fades to black

2x35: 'I don't regret where our choices have taken us' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty Five January 1998 A twenty one year old Naomi Donovan was stood shaking in her parent’s living room, upstairs her twelve year old sister Olivia Kane slept peacefully, unaware of the tragic events downstairs. Naomi dropped the knife she was holding and struggled to breathe as the realisation of her actions hit her. Naomi’s husband Cole rushed through the back door and found Naomi covered in her father’s blood. He saw the body of Samuel Kane in the middle of the floor. Cole dove towards Naomi and tried to stop her from shaking “He was going to do it to Liv” Naomi shrieked “I had to stop him Cole” Cole held Naomi close to him and then pushed her away “You have to go home Naomi, get out of these clothes and get home to Noah and Ava” Cole insisted. Cole bent over and picked up the knife, he wiped the blood onto his own shirt. “Go Naomi” He ordered. Naomi cried and refused to let go of Cole “I have to call the police” Cole shook his head “No, I’ll call the police, you have to go home and look after our children” Cole kissed Naomi’s forehead “I love you Naomi” He whispered.
December 1998
Naomi sat shivering in the cold waiting room, it had been two weeks since her father’s murder trial and she hadn’t seen her husband since he was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. She pulled her two year old daughter Ava closer to her and kissed her on the head. She watched her five year old son Noah play with his toy car on one of the plastic chairs. She stood up suddenly as the police warden finally appeared; she waited with bated breath as he approached her “I’m very sorry Mrs Donovan, Cole has said he doesn’t want you to visit him” The warden spoke softly. “I don’t understand” Naomi’s voice cracked. The warden held out a letter towards Naomi, she took it and ripped it open. Cole’s voice read out the words “My Naomi, I don’t regret where our choices have taken us, but this is the moment where I let you go as much as it hurts. I want you to be free, free of your past and make a new life for you, Noah and Ava. I will always love you Naomi. Cole” Naomi re-read the letter over and over and turned to look at Noah and Ava. Looking into Noah’s eyes, she saw her husband’s causing Naomi to break. Taking a deep breath Naomi wiped her eyes and whispered “Let’s go home.”
February 1999
Sat in her car alone, Naomi sat watching her childhood home in Taunton. She inhaled sharply as she saw her mother Jennifer Kane walk down the road with Naomi’s thirteen year old sister Olivia. Quickly getting out of the car, Naomi made her way over. “Naomi” Olivia squealed and approached her sister excitedly. Naomi hugged her sister tightly “You look so grown up Liv, this new haircut suits you” Naomi smiled. She looked over to her mother Jennifer who glared at her eldest daughter, she handed Olivia the house key “Olivia, go and get the tea started sweetheart” Jennifer said sternly. Olivia obliged and left Naomi and Jennifer alone in the street. “You have no right being here Naomi” Jennifer warned. “Please Mum, I just wanted to see my family” Naomi pleaded. Jennifer shook her head “You destroyed this family the moment you brought Cole Donovan into our lives” Jennifer paused “Spreading your poisonous lies about your father to try and get him off, I’m ashamed of you Naomi” Jennifer spat “If you try and come near me or Olivia again, I’ll report you to the police. Maybe they’ll find you a cell next to your husband.”

Naomi sat on a park bench watching the children play in the park that Naomi used to take Olivia to when they were younger. Naomi couldn’t help but let a tear escape as she realised how alone she truly was. Standing up quickly, Naomi had no awareness of her surroundings as she crashed into a young man in a suit knocking him off balance and them both to the ground “I’m so sorry” She whispered loudly as she helped the man up “The lengths women go to, to get a man to fall for them” He teased “In your case literally” The man held out his hand towards Naomi and introduced himself “I’m Matthew” Naomi once again apologised and tried to excuse herself. “Are you okay? You seem really upset” Matthew asked. Naomi stopped and turned back “I’ve just had a really bad day” She admitted. “Hot chocolate cures every kind of bad day” Matthew smiled trying to cheer Naomi up “I’m buying” He offered.
March 2000
At their flat in Taunton, Naomi and Matthew were both sitting at opposite ends of the dining table surrounded by books. Naomi was almost halfway through her first year of her English Literature degree while Matthew was busy preparing for his final law exams. Naomi sighed as Noah loudly ran into the room being chased by sister Ava. Matthew laughed as he jumped up and caught Noah throwing him into the air “If you make him vomit you’re clearing it up” Naomi warned jokingly as Ava jumped up at Matthew giggling. Naomi watched admiringly as Matthew spent the next half an hour keeping Noah and Ava entertained, finally they settled down to watch a Disney classic leaving Matthew time with Naomi. He kissed her lovingly on the lips and whispered the words Naomi had not been expecting “I love you Naomi” Naomi stepped backwards, taken aback by Matthew’s declaration. Matthew soon realised that Naomi was unsure how to react and he quickly changed the subject. “I’ve got to go and pick up this book from James” Matthew said. “I might stay for a couple of beers, don’t wait up for me” Matthew pulled Naomi into a kiss and promised that he wasn’t upset about her hesitation. After Matthew left the flat, it was obvious he had no intention of going to a friend’s house; he reached towards the glove box in the car and found a small box. He stared at it guiltily before putting the ring back on his finger on his left hand. Driving to the other side of Taunton, Matthew pulled up outside a small house, taking a deep breath he walked to the front door and let himself in. “Daddy” A young four year old girl squealed as she ran towards Matthew “How’s my princess?” Matthew picked up Sophie and kissed her on the head. His wife Grace smiled as she walked towards him “How was the course?” She asked. “Yeah it was good” Matthew muttered quickly changing the subject “Where’s Amy?” He asked. “She’s at a friend’s for dinner” Grace answered as she pecked Matthew on the lips “I missed you” She smiled
August 2000
Naomi sat in the back garden of her flat helping son Noah with his reading while Matthew pushed Ava on the swing. Naomi smiled at the sound of Ava’s giggling as she listened to Noah read. “Higher, push me higher daddy” Ava shouted causing Naomi to look up uncomfortably. Neither Matthew nor Naomi said anything; the couple just pretended nothing had happened. However, later that evening after the children went to bed, Naomi brought the subject up. “I don’t see the big deal Naomi; kids get confused all the time. I used to call my teacher at school mum all the time” Matthew tried to reason. “Ava needs to understand that Cole is her dad even if she doesn’t remember him” Naomi explained. Matthew shrugged “It’s not like he’s even around” Matthew suddenly blurted out. “Don’t you dare” Naomi warned. “What? It’s true Naomi, he’s the one who went and got himself banged up and now I’m the one bringing up his kids” Matthew’s voice got louder and Naomi warned him not to wake Noah and Ava. “Cole would give anything to be a father to those children” Naomi maintained as Matthew continued to berate Cole. Matthew stared at Naomi “You’re still in love with him” He realised. “Still in love with a killer, that’s pathetic” He shook his head. “Don’t call him that” Naomi warned. Matthew got in her face “That’s what he is, a cold blooded killer” Matthew taunted. “No! I am! Naomi blurted out in Cole’s defence, instantly regretting her admission. Matthew sat down as he struggled to comprehend Naomi’s words “You killed your own father” He muttered. Naomi sat down next to him and pulled at his arm “Please Matthew, you have to understand the situation” She pleaded. “You killed a man Naomi, what do you want me to say to that?” Matthew questioned as he rubbed his forehead. Naomi closed her eyes tightly and tried to blink away the tears “He raped me” Naomi confided “It started when I was twelve, he used to come into my room” Naomi explained how her father abused her until she left home at sixteen. “I remember sitting with my little sister Olivia, she would talk about how dad used to come into her room every night to cuddle her. That’s how it started, at first for a long time he would just cuddle me, then it would change. He would change, touching me in places and I didn’t understand, I was just a child, I didn’t know it was wrong but I wanted him to stop. All those years I just wanted him to stop and leave me alone” Naomi’s voice broke as she began to cry “I knew he was going to do it to Liv, I had to stop him Matthew. Please understand that I had to stop him” Naomi begged, Matthew pulled Naomi towards him as she cried.
October 2000
“I don’t want you to go away again” Naomi admitted to Matthew as he packed his suitcase “I know babe, but this is important for work. Naomi put on a sulky face causing Matthew to laugh and pull her into a kiss. “I went to see a solicitor yesterday” Naomi suddenly admitted. Matthew looked at her in confusion as she carried on “I’m going to divorce Cole. It seems silly still being married when we haven’t even spoken in years. I will always be grateful for what he has done for me, but he wanted me to move on with my life” Naomi explained. “Maybe once the divorce all goes through, maybe you and I could think about getting married” Naomi smiled kissing Matthew on the lips. He smiled back and distracted Naomi with kisses, pulling her back down onto the bed.
November 2000
Matthew took a deep breath as he walked into the home he shared with Grace; he looked guilty as he greeted his daughters Sophie and Amy who were drawing at the dining room table. Matthew found Grace sitting in the living room reading a magazine. Matthew sat down on the sofa next to her and held her hand “Grace, I really need to talk to you about something” Matthew began as he prepared to end his marriage. “I’m glad you’re home Matthew because I really need to talk to you as well” Grace admitted. “I know things haven’t been great between us for a while Matthew, I’m not blind, I know why you’ve been throwing yourself into work over the last year or so, but I love you Matthew, I’m not ready to give up on us yet” Grace paused for a moment “I’ve been wondering how to tell you this for days, at first I was really scared, but this could be perfect for us” Grace tightly held onto Matthew’s hand and whispered “I’m pregnant”
March 2001
“What course is this again?” Naomi questioned as she followed Matthew to the front door. “I told you babe, it’s about property law” He tried to convince Naomi. “I can’t keep doing this anymore Matthew, I see more of the postman than I do of you” Matthew kissed Naomi “It’ll be worth it in a few years when I’m earning enough money to keep you in fancy shoes” He joked. Naomi laughed “You know I’m not into money, I’d rather have you at home more often” She sighed. Matthew smiled and wished Naomi goodbye. After Matthew had left, Naomi noticed that he had left his coat on the back of the sofa, as she picked it up a mobile phone dropped out of the pocket. Not recognising it, Naomi picked it up curiously and turned it on. Soon enough a new text message came through from Grace. Naomi frowned as she opened it ‘Don’t forget to pick up milk on your way home. Love you x’
*
A week later, Naomi smiled as Matthew left for another over night meeting, as he pulled out of the driveway, Naomi watched from the window. She quickly got into her own car and followed at a discrete distance behind. Naomi felt like her heart was pumping louder than usual as she watched Matthew pull up outside a house. She felt physically sick as she saw a blonde woman open the front door and kiss Matthew passionately on the lips. Naomi gasped and threw her hand over her mouth as she noticed the woman’s visible pregnant stomach. After Matthew had disappeared inside, Naomi broke down in tears as she hit the steering wheel with her fist. Fuming, Naomi got out the car and stormed towards the house. She hammered on the front door until Grace appeared. “Who the hell are you?” Grace demanded as Naomi pushed past. “Naomi Donovan and you must be the bitch sleeping with my fiancée” Naomi spat. Grace turned around to look at Matthew who had appeared in the hallway. “Naomi” He spoke quietly. “Who is this woman Matthew?” Grace pleaded. “Go on Matthew, tell your whore who I am” Naomi pressed. Grace glared at Naomi “How dare you! I’m not his whore, I’m his wife!”

2x36: 'I'm sure that's what Bill said to Monica' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty Six • At Grace and Matthew Fitzgerald’s home, Naomi Donovan is standing in shock after Grace had revealed that she and Matthew were married.
NAOMI: (Looking at Matthew) She’s your wife?
MATTHEW: (Hesitates and then nods)
• Naomi walks closer to Matthew and slaps him around the face. Grace moves forward and pulls Naomi away.
GRACE: Who the hell do you think you are walking into my house and slapping my husband?
NAOMI: I’m the woman he’s been living with for the past few years, we’re meant to be getting married.
GRACE: (Looks at Matthew) Tell me she’s lying. (Matthew doesn’t answer. Grace shouts) Matthew, tell me she’s lying
MATTHEW: It’s not what you think.
NAOMI: Who are you talking to me or your wife?
• Sophie and Amy appear from the living room.
SOPHIE: Why’s the woman shouting daddy?
NAOMI: (Gasping) Daddy? (Claps her hand to her mouth) Oh my God!
GRACE: Amy, take your sister upstairs and put on a film.
• Sophie and Amy go up the stairs as Grace, Matthew and Naomi stand in an awkward silence. Grace ushers Naomi into the living room and closes the door to make sure the girls can’t hear anything.
MATTHEW: I’m so sorry Grace, this was never meant to happen.
GRACE: Don’t touch me!
NAOMI: (In disbelief) You’ve been married this whole time. You’ve been living with me and my children for years and you have a wife. I can’t deal with this, I need to leave.
• Naomi storms from the house and Matthew follows her out onto the street.
MATTHEW: Please wait Naomi, let me explain.
NAOMI: You can’t explain this Matthew. There is nothing you can say to explain this.
MATTHEW: Please, when I met you, me and Grace had split up, we weren’t together, we were even talking about a divorce. And then I met you and I fell for you the moment you first crashed into me that day in the park.
NAOMI: Then how the hell did you end up back in your wife’s bed?
MATTHEW: It just happened, Amy had an accident at school and we just turned to each other, it just felt natural. I know it was wrong, I know I have really screwed up here, but I love you Naomi, I couldn’t let you go.
NAOMI: And her obviously.
MATTHEW: I was going to leave, but then she found out she was pregnant. I couldn’t abandon my child.
NAOMI: Then you should have broken up with me; I don’t understand how you think you could keep this up, stringing us both along. Would you have married me?
MATTHEW: Of course not, I’m not a bigamist.
NAOMI: Yesterday I would’ve said you weren’t a cheat, but look where we are today.
MATTHEW: I never meant to hurt you.
NAOMI: I’m sure that’s what Bill said to Monica.
MATTHEW: This wasn’t some seedy affair Naomi, I love you.
NAOMI: I thought you did (Takes off her engagement ring and hands it to Matthew) and I thought I loved you. I really did, but you know what Matthew…I’m angry, so angry, but I’m not heart broken. (Calmly) You’ve made a fool of me and you’ve made a fool of your wife, that what’s I’m angry about.
MATTHEW: What are you saying?
NAOMI: I’m saying that you were right that day when you said I was still in love with Cole. If I was still with Cole I would never have even looked twice at you.
MATTHEW: Don’t be a bitch Naomi, it doesn’t suit you.
NAOMI: I’m being honest, at least one of us should be. I needed you and you gave me my life back, but if there was ever a choice…
• Matthew turned around and began to walk back towards the house. He stops and looks at Naomi.
MATTHEW: So you’ve made your choice and I’ve made mine.
• Matthew returns to the house. Naomi gets into her car and begins to cry.
NAOMI: How could you do this to me? (Whispers) I did love you.
• Naomi drives away
• Back inside the Fitzgerald house, Matthew finds Grace in their bedroom, ripping her clothes out of their wardrobe.
MATTHEW: (Grabs the dress from Grace’s hand) Grace, please…stop.
GRACE: You lived with her. (Crying) This is more than an affair Matthew; you built a life with her.
MATTHEW: I know…I don’t know what to say to you.
GRACE: There’s nothing to say. (Runs into the children’s bedroom and begins packing a bag) Come on girls, pick up your things, we’re going to see Nan.
• Sophie and Amy sit on the bed; they don’t know what to say. Matthew rushes in and tries to stop Grace.
MATTHEW: Girls just stay where you are.
GRACE: No Matthew, you can’t fix this.
MATTHEW: Please let me. We’re having a baby.
GRACE: (Shaking her head) No, I’m having a baby. Look at them (Points towards Sophie and Amy who were crying) Look at what you’ve done to us.
MATTHEW: We can get through this, I’m begging you Grace, let me try.
GRACE: (Runs back into the main bedroom and puts more clothes into her suitcase) You proposed to another woman! You can’t just say sorry and expect me to forgive you.
MATTHEW: I know it’s going to take some time…
GRACE: (Interrupts) It would take a bloody miracle.
MATTHEW: Stay and fight for us (Pulls Grace into his arms) You still love me I can see it in your eyes.
GRACE: (Pulls away) That’s irrelevant Matthew, you’ve broken my trust, you’ve broken us and you’ve broken my heart. There’s no way back from this. You have to let us go.
MATTHEW: I can’t.
GRACE: Go back to your fiancée
MATTHEW: It’s you I want Grace (Holds up her hand and points to her wedding ring) This means everything to me Grace. I can fix us, I promise you I can.
GRACE: (Aggressively pulls her hand away) I said no Matthew. (Closes the suitcase and drags it to the stairs) Sophie…Amy come on, we’re going.
• Sophie and Amy follow Grace down the stairs as Matthew tries to stop her. Grace pushes Matthew away from her and storms out of the house. Sophie and Amy get into the car while Grace puts the suitcase in the boot.
MATTHEW: Grace, please don’t go. I’m begging you.
GRACE: You’re scaring the girls Matthew.
• Grace gets into the driver’s side of the car as Matthew bangs on the window. She pulls out the driveway and drives away while Matthew chases the car before eventually giving up.
*
• Naomi is sat on her sofa, holding on tightly to her children Noah and Ava.
NOAH: When’s Matthew coming home?
NAOMI: (Trying not to cry) He’s not coming back.
AVA: Doesn’t he like us anymore?
NAOMI: (Kisses Ava on the head) Matthew has another family now.
NOAH: But what about us?”
NAOMI: We’re going to be okay Noah, I promise you. It was just the three of us before and we were okay then.
NOAH: But you can’t play football.
NAOMI: (Laughs) I know, but I can try.
AVA: But Matthew said we could go and see Mickey.
NAOMI: We can one day and Minnie and Goofy.
AVA: And Matthew will come with us.
NAOMI: No sweetheart, but I’ll be there and Noah.
NOAH: Will Buzz Lightyear be there?
NAOMI: Maybe. (Holds Noah and Ava closer to her) We’re going to be okay, I promise both of you. Everything will be okay.
*
• Matthew is sat alone in the dark living room drinking a beer. He tries again to phone Grace but no answer. In a temper Matthew throws the bottle of beer across the room so it hits the wall. Matthew ignores the doorbell, but the person is persistent. Matthew storms towards the front door and find two policemen on the doorstep.
POLICE OFFICER 1: Matthew Fitzgerald?
MATTHEW: (Bitterly) What do you want?
POLICE OFFICER 1: Are you Matthew Fitzgerald?
MATTHEW: Yes I am Matthew Fitzgerald.
POLICE OFFICER 2: You’re the next of kin of Grace Fitzgerald?
MATTHEW: She’s my wife.
POLICE OFFICER 2: We’re very sorry to have to tell you Mr Fitzgerald. This afternoon this was an accident on the M5, three vehicles and a lorry were involved.
MATTHEW: (Interrupting) Is Grace okay?
POLICE OFFICER 1: We’re so sorry, but Grace Fitzgerald was pronounced dead at the scene. Her injuries were too severe.
MATTHEW: (Sputtering) Oh my God. (Crying) The baby?
POLICE OFFICER 1: I’m sorry.
MATTHEW: The girls, my children…
POLICE OFFICER 2: Both girls were taken to the nearest hospital, I’m so sorry the youngest Sophie stopped breathing on the way, they couldn’t save her.
MATTHEW: (Voice breaking) And Amy?
POLICE OFFICER 1: The doctors did everything they could.
MATTHEW: (Breaking down) No, no, this can’t be happening. Please tell me this isn’t happening.
• Matthew’s legs gave way and he fell to the ground, both police officers tried to help him up but Matthew couldn’t move, he cries as repeats Grace’s name

2x37: 'You're obviously the damsel in distress I'm meant to save' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty Seven 6th JANUARY 2013
Matthew Fitzgerald sat in his car at the ferry port waiting for his ride over to Canvey Island; he glanced into his rear-view mirror at the removal truck behind him. He thought back to eleven years ago when he received the tragic news that his wife Grace and two daughters Amy and Sophie had been killed in a car accident. Matthew’s train of thought was interrupted by the sound of his mobile phone; he stared at the caller ID for a moment before answering “Terry, what have you got for me?” Matthew asked his private investigator Terry Yates who he had been working with for years. “He’s being released tomorrow” Terry answered. “Cheers mate” Matthew responded and finished the call. He pulled out an A4 sized envelope which contained photographs of Naomi Donovan and her sister Olivia Kane as well as photographs of Naomi’s children Noah and Ava “Let the games begin” Matthew whispered coldly.
7th JANUARY 2013
Naomi squealed as she took in the sight of Cole walking towards her, she let go of her sister Olivia’s hand and ran into Cole’s arms and kissed him passionately “I’ve missed you so much” Naomi couldn’t stop the tears from forming in her eyes as she took a step back from Cole so she could take in his appearance, it felt like she was in a dream. “I’ve missed you too babe” For the first time in what felt like years, Cole smiled and he pulled his wife into a tight hug “Take me home” Cole and Naomi walked hand in hand towards Olivia, who was smiling, relieved to see her sister so happy. Olivia walked towards Cole and held out her hand towards him “A new beginning?” She offered. Cole took Olivia’s hand and shook it “A new beginning” He confirmed “You’ve grown up” Cole acknowledged. “Well, that tends to happen in the space of fifteen years” Olivia laughed.
*
Matthew stood on the corner of Canvey Crescent; he glared coldly at number twenty where the Donovan family lived. Inside, Cole lay wide awake; he looked over at the digital clock that was on the bedside table. It was two thirty in the morning. He sighed and sat up. Naomi was fast asleep next to him; she looked like she didn’t have a care in the world. Cole got up and crept down the stairs, he noticed something white fall through the letterbox, he bent down and picked up the envelope, it didn’t have a name on, but Cole opened it anyway. He gasped as the note contained cut out letters from the newspaper spelling out the word ‘Killer’. Cole opened the front door and ran out onto the driveway, he looked around the crescent, but it was completely deserted.
13TH JANUARY 2013
Matthew stood at the end of Canvey Lanes, staring at his new environment. He watched as Steven Faraday and his wife Sophia walked hand in hand up the path towards the Crown and Horseshoe, while Siobhan Spencer left after finishing her shift. Matthew stepped back into the shadows as he noticed Naomi and Cole walking towards the pub. Meanwhile, Naomi clung onto Cole’s hand as they walked into the pub for the first time. As they walked in, the noise slowly lowered and Naomi soon realised that everyone was looking. Naomi looked at Cole nervously; he smiled at her and kissed her on the lips. “We might as well give them a show” Cole whispered to his wife. The couple walked towards the bar and smiled at barmaid Chloe Charles. Cole offered everyone in the pub a drink, much to Naomi’s concern. Cole shrugged “This is a new beginning remember, we might as well get the neighbours on side” Naomi nodded as neighbours began to crowd the couple, she watched her husband as he introduced himself to everyone. Naomi felt her phone vibrate in her pocket; she got it out and stared at the text message that lit up her phone ‘Bet they wouldn’t want a drink if they knew your husband was a killer.’ In the corner of the pub unnoticed, Matthew stood and watched Naomi stare at her phone, Matthew couldn’t help himself but smile as Naomi looked around the crowded pub with an anxious expression.
19th JANUARY 2013
Olivia caught sight of her reflection in the salon window and cringed, dressed in tracksuit bottoms and her hair scraped into a messy bun, not exactly the appearance of a beauty therapist. Olivia signed the paper work and went to walk back into the salon, but stopped abruptly when the delivery driver went to get back into his van Olivia demanded to know where he was going but the driver just shook his head and drove off. Olivia began shouting after him “How am I supposed to get all those boxes inside? Look at these nails, they cost a fortune” Olivia blushed as she noticed a guy staring at her from across the road. Matthew took one last look at the photograph of Olivia and her older sister Naomi that was in his hands and folded it up and put it inside his jacket. He smiled as he walked across the road towards Olivia “You’re obviously the damsel in distress I’m meant to save” He joked. Olivia cringed as she thought about her unwashed hair, but she tried to forget about her awful appearance and graciously accepted Matthew’s offer. Once all the boxes were safely inside the salon, Matthew took Olivia by surprise by asking her on a date. “Seeing as you’re my knight in shining armour, you can pick me up at eight.”
27th JANUARY 2013
Matthew stood leaning against his car as he watched a red Corsa drive towards him; he looked around cautiously at the quarry to make sure he was alone for his meeting. The car pulled up next to him and Tommy Thompson got out of the car, followed by his son Adam. “How are you Tommy?” Matthew asked politely. “Forget the pleasantries Matthew, I just want to know about this job you’ve got planned” Tommy retorted and the men got into Matthew’s car. Matthew pulled out photographs of the Crown and Horseshoe pub and the Hastings family. “You want us to pull off a robbery at this place, but you don’t want any of the profits?” Adam questioned “What’s in it for you?” Matthew pulled out another photograph “I know you’re already acquainted with Noah Donovan” Matthew stated as Tommy nodded knowingly. “I want him part of the job, but he must never know about my involvement” Matthew explained. “This sounds like too much of a risk, I won’t end up back inside” Tommy glared at Matthew. “Tommy, you know you can trust me. I got you out on early release didn’t I?” Matthew pointed out, he handed Tommy detailed layout plans of the Crown and Horseshoe as Adam began to draw his own plans for the job
3rd FEBRUARY 2013
Tommy stood in the middle of the pub as his son Adam and accomplice Noah Donovan locked every door of the pub. Tommy ordered a terrified Steven and Josh to move all the tables to create a big space in the middle of the pub. He screamed at everyone to sit down and put their phones into a bucket. As Tommy reached for Matthew’s phone, the men shared a look before Matthew returned to his role. Matthew pulled Olivia close to him and whispered in her ear “It’s going to be okay babe, I promise I won’t let anything happen to you” He reassured his shaking date. “I’m scared Matthew” Olivia whispered. “Just do everything they say and we’ll get through this Liv.”
10th MARCH 2013
Olivia handed her Matthew a bottle of wine as he met her outside her sister’s house for Ava’s welcome home dinner “I thought you could give this to Naomi and Cole, you know, make a good first impression” Matthew laughed and kissed Olivia, from behind his back, he pulled out another bottle of wine “One step ahead of you as always” He teased. Before the couple had the chance to ring the doorbell, Naomi answered the door “I thought I could hear…” But she stopped as she came face to face with Matthew. Naomi struggled to breathe as she followed Matthew and Olivia through the house, she invited the couple to take a seat and she escaped upstairs. After an awkward dinner, Naomi escaped to the kitchen to finish the washing up. She shivered as she felt a presence behind her; she turned around to find Matthew staring at her. “Did you know that Olivia was my sister?” Naomi demanded. Matthew laughed “Of course I didn’t. I’m not going to tell her about our history if that’s what you’re worried about” Naomi glared at Matthew’s calm exterior “You followed me all the way here, do you realise how desperate that makes you?” Matthew smiled “It’s good to know I still have this effect on you Naomi” Naomi rolled her eyes “Don’t flatter yourself Matthew” Matthew moved in close to Naomi, she still wore the same scent. He breathed in her scent and then abruptly moved back “I actually like your sister Naomi, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll keep our secret Naomi, I’ll do that for you” Matthew promised. “And what about Grace? Have you told her about your wife and kids or are you still playing the same game?” Naomi demanded as Matthew took a step back, shaken by the mention of Grace’s name. “She’s gone Naomi; she took the girls and left me. I haven’t seen them since the day I last saw you” Matthew blurted out, but soon regained his composure. “We both saw right through you eventually and so will Olivia” Naomi warned.
14th APRIL 2013
Olivia and Matthew kissed lovingly as they celebrated the reopening of the Crown and Horseshoe pub “It really is over” Olivia whispered. “You don’t need to be scared anymore Liv” Matthew smiled. “I feel safe with you” Olivia said as she kissed Matthew on the lips. As Olivia joined her best friend Chloe at the bar, Matthew walked over to the corner and pulled out a white envelope with Lindsay Hastings’ name on. He placed it on the edge of the bar and quickly returned to Olivia’s side. He watched carefully as Lindsay found the envelope and pulled out the newspaper clipping. She shivered as she looked over to where Cole was stood talking to her daughter Megan, Matthew watched as Lindsay walked briskly over to her husband Daniel. Soon enough Daniel approached Cole “I’m really sorry Cole, but I think you should leave” Daniel said abruptly. Cole looked at his wife Naomi in confusion and then stood up to speak to Daniel “Is there something wrong?” Daniel showed Cole the newspaper article and Cole understood. He quietly put on his jacket as Naomi questioned what was going on. “Just leave it Naomi” Naomi shook her head defiantly “No, I am not going to let this happen to you Cole. You don’t deserve it” Lindsay walked over to join forces with Daniel “I’ve had enough of this” Lindsay complained about Daniel’s soft approach “I will not have a murderer in my pub” Lindsay said loudly causing the pub to quieten and listen to their confrontation. Everyone stared at Cole and Naomi as they stood in the middle of the pub, Naomi could feel the blush rising up her neck “You’re quick to judge Lindsay, I thought you were better than that” Naomi said sadly and held onto Cole’s hand loyally. Naomi, Cole and Ava walked out of the Crown and Horseshoe while Matthew stood watching from afar.
21st April 2013
Naomi and Cole stood with their heads held up high in the Crown and Horseshoe, Olivia and Matthew stood next to them in support. “Let’s just go Naomi” Cole suggested. Naomi took a step back “No, I’m not having this. My husband was in prison for fifteen years” Naomi’s voice filled the pub “He killed someone. He killed my father because…” Naomi’s voice began to break as she relived her childhood. “You don’t have to do this” Cole pleaded. Naomi smiled at her husband lovingly “My father abused me, he used to come into my room every night for years and he would rape me” Naomi’s body was shaking as she spoke. Olivia closed her eyes tightly as she thought of her father and what she escaped from. Matthew put his arm around Olivia tightly as Naomi continued “Cole didn’t kill in cold blood, he was protecting me. So don’t you dare judge him, not when he has done the bravest thing possible for me” Naomi leant in and kissed Cole on the lips “I love you” She whispered to him. Holding Olivia in his arms, Matthew glared at the couple intensely as the residents of Canvey Island accepted Cole into the community.
3rd JUNE 2013
Naomi stood outside Matthew’s office; she clutched the envelope containing a photograph of the former couple that she had received the previous night. She took a deep breath and lightly knocked on the door, she didn’t wait to be invited in. Matthew stood up in surprise as Naomi slammed the envelope on the table. Matthew picked up the photograph and smirked “Not exactly my best angle” He teased. Naomi glared at her former boyfriend “Is this some sort of joke? My gut instincts told me not to trust you and this proves it” Matthew’s smile faded “I don’t know what you’re talking about Naomi” Naomi shook her head, not believing Matthew “It was you all along, the texts, the letters about Cole and now this. I won’t let you intimidate my family Matthew” Matthew walked around the desk and affectionately touched Naomi’s shoulder “I would never do anything to hurt you Naomi, I still care about you” Naomi stepped back suspiciously “And my sister?” Matthew smiled “I do love your sister, Olivia is the genuinely most interesting woman I’ve met in a long time and she keeps me on my toes, I really have fallen for her.” Before Naomi could say anything else, she heard the door slam shut “And I’ve fallen for you too” Olivia walked over and kissed Matthew on the lips “You’re not playing the protective older sister again, are you Naomi?” Naomi laughed as she walked towards the door “I just wanted to make sure you and Matthew are on the same page” Naomi and Matthew shared a look before Matthew focused his attention back on Olivia. Naomi stared in confusion and disgust as Matthew kissed her sister

2x38: 'I have no idea what your game is but this ain't normal' | Written by Hannah | Episode Fifty Eight 16th JUNE 2013
Matthew Fitzgerald arrived at a small flat in Torquay and came face to face with Tommy Thompson “I was hoping never have to see your face again” Tommy said coldly as Matthew invited himself in. “It’s time Tommy” Matthew stated as Tommy shook his head in frustration. “An easy job you called this now you want me to go down for it” Tommy ranted as he got up close into Matthew’s face. In anger, Matthew’s façade dropped and his pushed Tommy hard into the wall “Remember who calls the shots old man. One word from me and the death of your wife becomes a high priority murder investigation” Matthew warned. “Michael Connor is on his way, he’s already picked up Adam and it’s not long until Noah Donovan will be thrown into the cell next to you” Matthew explained as Tommy begun to realise that he had no other choice.
13th SEPTEMBER 2013
Sitting alone in a small flat on Canvey Island, Matthew wore black leather gloves as he handled one of the guns used in the siege at the Crown and Horseshoe “Here’s a test for you Naomi” He whispered “How far will you go to protect your son?” The scene fades into Naomi stood outside the Donovan home where she noticed an old rag tucked by the wheel of her car, she walked over and picked it up, she was shocked when a heavy object fell from the rag onto the floor, Naomi’s eyes widened as she saw a gun lying on the ground.
*
Michael Connor was sat at his desk in his office where he received a phone call “Who is this?” Michael demanded. “It doesn’t matter who I am” Matthew answered, his voice disguised. “Naomi Donovan has the evidence you need, the gun her son used in the siege” Matthew explained before quickly hanging up the call. Michael stood up abruptly, grabbing his coat on the way “Get a unit over to Canvey Crescent; we need to find Naomi Donovan.”
18th OCTOBER 2013
Matthew sat at his desk looking at the engagement ring he had brought for his girlfriend Olivia Kane; he then glanced towards a photograph of him with his ex Naomi Donovan, who also happened to be the older sister of Olivia. “I’m sorry Liv, but it’s time you find out the truth about your sister” Matthew whispered as he began to cut up the photograph.
25th OCTOBER 2013
Olivia was still reeling from discovering the truth about her boyfriend Matthew’s previous relationship with her sister Naomi. Naomi’s accusations about Matthew being her stalker rang in her ears as she returned home. “Did you know who my sister was when you met me?” Olivia demanded as she pushed Matthew away from her. Matthew hesitated for a moment “No.” Olivia sat down and tried to compose herself “You know she thinks you’re responsible for all this. The letters, the threats and now this” Olivia admitted as Matthew feigned shock. “You don’t believe her do you?” Matthew questioned. “I don’t know what to think about anything anymore. The two people I trusted most in the world lied to me and now you’re both telling me different things, I don’t know what I’m supposed to believe anymore Matthew” Olivia stood up and began pacing around the living room. Matthew pulled Olivia closer to him “I know you’re mad at me right now, but you have to believe me, I love you Olivia and I want to spend the rest of my life with you” Matthew took a small box out of his pocket and knelt down. “Olivia Kane, you are stunningly beautiful, intelligent, your sense of humour could do with a bit of help, but we can sort that out. Olivia, I am so in love with you. Will you marry me?”
20th DECEMBER 2013
As his bride to be celebrated her hen night at the opening night of new club Chemistry, Matthew was stood in the hallway of the Donovan house, he watched Naomi as she lay fast asleep on the sofa. He walked slowly into the living room and took in the empty bottle of wine and Naomi’s medication sat next to the empty glass. Edging back out the room, Matthew walked upstairs and found Naomi and Cole’s bedroom, quickly emptying his backpack of newspaper articles and photographs, Mathew planted the evidence at the bottom of their wardrobe, allowing one letter to lie noticeable on the carpet. Smiling to himself, Matthew made his escape.
*
Matthew took a deep breath as he entered the Crown and Horseshoe; he painted as smile on his face as he greeted Landlord Daniel Hastings. Matthew sat on a stool next to a brooding Patrick Hale “You look like you lost a tenner and found a penny” Matthew observed. Patrick shrugged and warned Matthew to never have kids. As Matthew ordered himself a drink, Patrick began to open up to Matthew about his troubles with Kyle “Kayla wants to be the one to change him, heal the broken little boy inside. It’s such a cliché” Patrick complained “The boy’s never really had much of a father figure; he needs teaching right from wrong. I’m half tempted to hand this phone into the police” Patrick pulled out Kyle’s secret phone and threw it on the table “He wouldn’t think he was so untouchable once the police put a stop to his dealing” Matthew picked up the phone and looked at it “You think he’s dealing drugs?” Matthew questioned in shock, Matthew stared at the phone and turned it over, he knew as soon as Patrick pulled it out that it was the one that he had lost. Matthew quickly put the pieces together as he realised that Kyle must have stolen the phone when he had been joyriding in his car a few weeks previously.
*
The silence was piercing as a drunken Patrick stumbled alone across the beach; the cold winter breeze had caused him to feel more intoxicated than he had felt when he was sitting in the pub. Patrick began to sway from side to side, caused by a combination of alcohol and the strong winds. He paused for a moment as he felt out of breath, he sat down on the edge of the breaker and pulled out the phone and once again tried combinations for the passcode. By sheer luck, on the third try the phone unlocked. From the shadows, Matthew watched as Patrick searched through the phone, taking a deep breath Matthew approached Patrick, startling him in the process. Patrick stood up and faced Matthew and looked at him in confusion “This ain’t Kyle's phone” Patrick stated. “There’s pictures on here of the Donovans, and you…” Patrick spat. “Patrick mate” Matthew began. “Texts” Patrick read one out loud “Does your sister know you’re a killer?” Patrick stared at Matthew “I need the phone Patrick” Matthew warned. “Who the hell are you?” Patrick demanded. “This is none of your business mate, this is between me and Naomi” Matthew tried to resolve, but Patrick shook his head “I have no idea what your game is but this ain’t normal” Patrick began to walk away, taking the phone with him. “Patrick, hold on” Matthew called after him and pulled him backwards. “Get your hands off me!” Patrick spat “I can’t let you give that phone to Naomi” Matthew warned as Patrick pushed him away, the men began to scuffle as Patrick punched Matthew in the face, in the commotion Matthew caught Patrick off balance causing him to fall and crack the front of his head on a rock. Matthew stood back in shock and called out Patrick’s name, Matthew was now shaking as he realised Patrick was unconscious. Pacing around Matthew panicked until he heard laughing in the distance. Taking one last look at Patrick, Matthew picked up the phone and noticed Patrick had blood on his watch. Matthew reached up to a cut on his head and realised that it was his blood, taking off the watch Matthew pocketed it and began to briskly walk away, not once looking back
25th DECEMBER 2013
Matthew woke up from a nightmare on Christmas morning; he was sweating as his fiancée Olivia brought in a stocking full of Christmas presents. Wearing a red silk dressing gown and a Christmas hat, Olivia teased Matthew, but he was clearly distracted “You look like you’ve seen a ghost” Olivia pressed as she sat down on the bed next to Matthew. He wiped his face with his hands and shook his head “One too many last night, don’t worry about me babes, a quick shower will sort me out” Matthew muttered as he jumped out of bed and escaped to the bathroom without acknowledging Olivia’s new attire.
26th DECEMBER 2013
Matthew and Olivia walked into the Crown and Horseshoe and caught the end of Chloe Charles’ conversation with Harry Campbell “Has something happened to Kayla?” Matthew asked curiously. Harry eyed Chloe, not quite sure whether it was his place to spread the news of Patrick’s death. Chloe explained to Matthew and Olivia that Patrick had fallen and hit his head on his way home from the pub on Christmas Eve. Olivia gasped in horror “Poor Kayla, she must be in bits” She sighed sadly. News broke around the pub; Daniel called for quiet and announced that the next drink was on him out of respect for Patrick. “Is alright if I say a few words?” Matthew asked as he tried to mask his own guilt “Patrick was a friend” Olivia stroked Matthew’s arm as he stood in front of the busy pub. “Patrick was a great guy to have a few drinks with, always there to listen when you need someone to rant to. Fate is a cruel thing. I would like you all to raise a glass to Patrick Hale. A colleague, a partner…a friend” Matthew spoke passionately. Over in the corner of the pub, Michelle Fox comforted her fiancé David Fields as he struggled to comprehend the loss of his colleague, while Daniel and his ex-wife Lindsay Faraday wondered how Kayla was coping with her loss.
31st DECEMBER 2013
In the early hours of his wedding day, Matthew sat alone at a cemetery in Taunton. He stared at the three grave stones that lay next to each other. Grace, Amy and Sophie Fitzgerald. He leant forwards and traced Grace’s name with his finger “I’m so sorry baby” Matthew whispered “I made so many mistakes and I never got the chance to make it up to you” He paused as he let a tear escape. “She took everything away from me. Naomi is to blame for all of this, the woman is poison. She killed her own father and as far as I’m concerned she killed you and our girls and I promise you Grace, she will pay.” Matthew stood up and brushed the dirt off his suit.
*
Olivia and Matthew stood opposite each other at the altar, listening intently to the Vicar’s reading, Olivia looked over at Cole and smiled sadly, both knowing that Olivia was hurt by Naomi’s refusal to attend the wedding, Olivia took a deep breath and looked around at her niece Ava, Ava’s smile gave Olivia the support she had so desperately wanted from her sister. Olivia felt her heart skip a beat as Matthew began his vows “Olivia Kane, the damsel in distress I was meant to save. From the moment I met you, you gave me a purpose, a feeling that I haven’t felt in a very long time. You are my other half Olivia, my shining star, the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with” Matthew spoke softly as Olivia felt the emotion building up inside of her. Matthew closed his eyes as he remembered the day he said his vows to Grace, struggling to compose himself Matthew quickly opened his eyes again and focused on Olivia. “I love you” He whispered. As Olivia took a deep breath to begin her own vows, the ceremony was interrupted by the sound of the church doors creaking open, every single person in the church turned around and watched as Naomi stumbled her way down the aisle. “Oh my God” Ava whispered in humiliation. Naomi’s eyes were a mixture of red and grey, her face full of desperation. Cole walked forward to stop Naomi as she reached the altar “Naomi, what do you think you’re doing?” He whispered loudly. Faces of confusion filled the congregation “She looks psychotic” Eileen commented to Duncan. “Mum, what’s wrong with her?” Emily asked Siobhan, who didn’t have an answer for her daughter. “Naomi” Olivia said tearfully. Naomi pushed past Cole and grabbed hold of Olivia’s hand and tried to pull her away from the altar “You can’t do this Olivia, you can’t marry that man” Naomi pleaded desperately.
14th FEBRUARY 2014
Naomi and Matthew stood facing each other in Naomi’s room at the secure unit; Naomi stared at the hardened expression on Matthew’s face. Matthew held his sleeve up to his bleeding face and watched through the window as Naomi was sedated
