3x1: 'What we lack in quantity, we will more than make up for in quality' | Written by Joe | Episode Fifty Nine The eerie atmosphere of the dark prison surrounded him, it was suffocating and overwhelming. This scene of doom and gloom had been his home for over six months since the day he was arrested in front of his new wife Megan Donovan. All Noah Donovan knew was that he wanted to wake up with his bride, he longed for her scent and her touch; he thought back to the time they had spent on the street, he could still feel her in his arms. He remembered the feeling inside him when Megan became his wife; her smile was imprinted in his brain. Noah winced in pain as he grabbed hold of his ribs. He stood up slowly and looked in the mirror. He lifted his t-shirt and squinted in pain; his ribs were broken and covered in bruises. Noah thought back to a few days ago when he was attacked once again by two henchmen of Tommy Thompson, a warning in preparation for his upcoming trial for his role in the armed robbery at the Crown and Horseshoe pub.

“Are you feeling okay darling?” Lindsay Faraday asked her daughter Megan as she lovingly brushed her hair, just like she did when Megan was growing up. Megan nodded, but she remained silent “I know today is going to be really hard, but you need to stay strong” Lindsay whispered as she kissed her daughter on the head. Megan’s father Daniel Hastings stood at her bedroom door, he smiled at his nervous daughter who returned the gesture. “You know I blame myself every single day for not being there that night” Daniel began before Lindsay stopped him. She walked over to her ex-husband and hugged him tightly “We need to be strong today, strong for Megan.” Lindsay encouraged. As Daniel and Lindsay shared a moment with their daughter, Daniel’s girlfriend Imogen Sandford interrupted. “I’m sorry…” She said “I didn’t mean to interrupt. I just wanted to say good luck today” Imogen looked over at Megan who thanked her. Daniel put his hand on Imogen’s shoulder and kissed her on the cheek. Lindsay took Megan’s hand and led Megan towards the stairs; she stopped as she passed Imogen “Thank you” Lindsay whispered.

At the Last Minute Supermarket, manager Katherine Lavery carefully put the morning newspapers out on display, she froze as she noticed the headline ‘Canvey Island’s Night of Terror’ and a photograph of Noah Donovan staring back at her. Katherine sighed as she put the last of the papers out and tried to smile as she greeted Chloe Charles who had just picked up a paper. “I’m organising a ladies night at the pub tonight if you’re interested?” Chloe asked as she glanced at the front page tentatively “I thought it might help you know, take our minds off…” Chloe let the sentence trail off. “I don’t think Siobhan will be up to it tonight, she’s giving evidence today” Katherine explained as Chloe asked how Siobhan was feeling. “She hasn’t been feeling very well, but she says she’s just nervous about the trial, it’s going to bring back a lot of bad memories for her today” Chloe supportively touched Katherine’s arm “Siobhan’s strong, she’ll be okay” She encouraged. As Chloe was leaving she bumped into Kayla Macey who was busy talking to Chrissie Campbell. She apologised to the women and then invited them to the ladies night at the pub. “What do you reckon? I think we deserve a night out” Chrissie said brightly. “We’ll see you tonight” Kayla smiled enthusiastically.
*
A darkened room matched the atmosphere as a crushed David Fields lay in his bed. He clutched a photograph of his fiancée Michelle Fox. He closed his eyes tightly as he let a tear fall down his face. The memories of the night Michelle died burned in his mind “Michelle please, please don’t leave me” David cried as he cradled his fiancée. “The cause of death has been determined as a brain aneurysm” The coroner spoke sternly. “David, Alfie needs feeding” David’s mother Eileen Fields begged. As the words began to jumble into one, David woke up to the sound of Alfie crying in his cot next to the bed, but David didn’t move. Eileen rushed into the bedroom to try and soothe Alfie, staring at them for a moment, David then turned away.
*
Cole Donovan stood outside the Portsmouth courthouse with his arm around his daughter Ava, he squeezed her arm supportively as her best friend Megan walked towards them. As Cole and Megan talked about how Noah must be feeling while Ava noticed Steven Faraday approach them. She walked towards him as he smiled supportively. “You okay? He asked. Ava sighed and shook her head “Not really” She admitted “It’s been over a year and I can still hear the screams, as clear as day” Ava confessed. The scene faded into three hooded men as they smashed up the Crown and Horseshoe to Adam Thompson violently grabbing and pushing Lindsay, to Siobhan shaking in fear, Ava looking at Steven for help to the scuffle where several shots rang out. “It’s time” Lindsay stated which brought Ava out of her trance. As the assembled Canvey Island residents made their way into the courthouse, a scared and worried Noah prepared for his fate.As the opening speeches finished inside, in the witness waiting room, Siobhan felt her heart stop as she heard her name. As she made her way into the court, Siobhan stumbled and grabbed hold of the rail beside her. She took a deep breath and looked up at Noah who hung his head, unable to look in her direction. Siobhan took the Bible in her hand and began to speak. Her voice broke, but she managed to continue “I swear by almighty God…” Siobhan’s voice trailed off as her thoughts returned to that terrible night. Siobhan frantically looked in horror at the scene around her, Lindsay screaming in pain as her daughter Megan begged for help, and she herself shaking like a leaf. “I’ll never be able to forget that night” Siobhan began. Meanwhile, outside the courtroom, Megan sat down on a chair next to Lindsay and spoke quietly” I need you to help me Mum” Megan held onto Lindsay’s hand “I need you to help Noah, he doesn’t deserve to go to prison, please Mum, I’m begging you, please help him” Megan pleaded as Lindsay stared at her daughter with doubt.
*
At the beach on Canvey Island, Tate Yorke jogged from the shoreline where he met his boyfriend Anthony Spencer and their friends Molly Campbell and Mia Faraday. “You must be freezing” Anthony commented as he threw Tate a towel. “Who me? Never, I’m a hot as they come” Tate teased as he kissed Anthony. “Get a room” Molly joked as she elbowed Mia teasingly. However, Mia was staring out into space “What?” Mia asked as Molly asked if she was okay. Mia shrugged “Everything’s just a mess right now, Mum and Dad can’t even be in the same room as each other and now it’s the trial and that’s not even mentioning the Alfie situation.” Tate clapped his hands together to get everyone’s attention. “Right, I’ve had enough of this doom and gloom. We’re young, we’re free-ish” Tate looked over at Anthony and winked “I think it’s about time we have some fun. There’s this band playing in Portsmouth Wednesday night, I could score us some tickets and get us on the guest list” Tate suggested as the others all looked at each other and nodded in agreement.
*
Back in court room, Noah glanced over to the public gallery; he weakly smiled as his father Cole looked at him nervously. Noah’s smiled faded as he thought about his mother Naomi who should have been sat there next to Cole. Noah looked over at the door as his Aunt Olivia Fitzgerald arrived and sat down next to Cole “How’s it going?” Olivia asked. “Siobhan did well, but she told the truth. Noah was there and he was part of it, nothing can change that” Cole explained as Lindsay was called to the stand. The scene faded to a pram, stood alone in a spot light. As Olivia looked around, she was the only one there. Her and the pram. Olivia made her way over but before she looked inside, she heard a noise behind her. “You’ll make a great mother” Olivia’s husband Matthew whispered as Olivia turned towards him. She confessed that she wasn’t pregnant, the test was negative. Suddenly Olivia snapped back into reality as Lindsay began her evidence. “That night was the worst night of my life. It started off like any other night, so normal, collecting empties, serving customers when everything changed. Hell erupted. I remember two of the men being very forceful, very hard. There was hate and intimidation in their eyes and I was terrified. Not just for me, but for my daughter and my brother as well. The third man, Noah, he stood at the back. Almost like he didn’t want to be there” Lindsay explained “Noah is a good man, he made a mistake” Lindsay tried to continue, but the prosecution lawyer Carrie White interrupted “Ms Faraday, you’re here as a witness to the crime, not as a character witness for the accused.” Lindsay frowned “Oh I was there, I was pushed and shoved around like a rag doll, and I was shot right here” Lindsay pointed towards her stomach “But not by Noah. It was Tommy and Adam Thompson who stole my life, not him” Lindsay said passionately as she looked over at Noah.
*
“Oh yess, it’s ladies night and the feeling’s right” Chloe sang as she placed a tray of Tequila shots down on the table in front of Kayla, Chrissie and Imogen. “Great turnout darling” Kayla noted as she looked around the quiet pub. “The trial started today, I thought it would be a good idea to show that they didn’t win, we’re all still here, still standing strong” Chloe explained as she picked up her shot. “Besides what we lack in quantity, we’ll more than make up for it in quality” Chloe smiled as Chrissie subtlety passed her shot to Kayla, which didn’t go unnoticed by Imogen. “Bottoms up” Kayla smiled as the women downed their shots. “Now let’s get that karaoke machine going” Chloe laughed as she and Kayla walked over to the stage. “You can always pass your shots my way next time” Imogen offered. Chrissie laughed and thanked her. “How long have you been in recovery?” Imogen asked “You don’t have to tell me” She added. “Almost a year” Chrissie admitted “It hasn’t been easy, but I was determined this time, I wanted to change for my children” Chrissie explained. “I can understand that” Imogen sighed as she thought of Anthony, she shook her head and smiled at Chrissie “Fancy a duet?”
* Ava stood in the corridor of the secure unit where her mother Naomi was staying. She had spent the whole day feeling nervous about giving evidence, but ended up not being called. “Knock, knock” Ava tried to smile as she entered Naomi’s room. Naomi rushed towards her daughter and threw her arms around her. As Naomi held her tightly, Ava pulled her mother closer and drifted into her memories. Ava stood alone in the Crown and Horseshoe, she tried to scream but no sound came out. Suddenly, Ava was in the bath under the water, she breathed in air as she reached the surface. Ava stepped out of the bath and cursed as she stepped on some broken glass. She watched the blood leak from the cut, it was a relief. Ava picked up the piece of glass and held it against her arm; she pressed down deeper and closed her eyes as she felt the blood release from her body. This marked the moment that Ava began to self-harm. “How’s Noah? Is he okay? I wish I could be there with him, be there for him and for all of you” Naomi rambled “If Matthew hadn’t of…” Naomi began and then noticed Ava staring at her. “Why are you doing this again Mum?” Ava said sadly. “This isn’t like before Ava, I promise. He was here, he came to see me Ava and he admitted it all. He attacked himself Ava” Naomi pleaded with Ava to believe her. Ava nodded and thought back to the day of Olivia’s wedding to Matthew where Naomi broke down. “Mum, please, you need to stay calm. This isn’t good for you, bringing all this up again” Ava tried to comfort her mother. Naomi sighed and reached out towards her daughter “Please believe me Ava” Naomi begged.
*
As Siobhan prepared a late dinner for her family, she suddenly felt faint. She rubbed her head softly and she tried to steady herself from the dizziness. Emily appeared in the kitchen and asked about dinner. Siobhan could hear Emily’s voice, but she couldn’t make out what she was saying. “Mum” Emily shouted. “What?” Siobhan snapped as the dizziness began to ease. Emily stared at her mother as the scene fades to Lindsay who was stood outside Megan’s bedroom door. “Thank you” Megan smiled. “I did mean what I said” Lindsay confessed. On the beach, Ava walked alone as her mother’s words rang in her ears “Matthew, it was Matthew who was stalking us all this time.” As the words faded, Eileen picked up David’s dinner plate from the floor; once again he hadn’t touched it. “You need to snap out of this David. Michelle wouldn’t have wanted to see you like this. I know it’s hard, but Alfie needs you, he needs his Da” Eileen pleaded as David refused to look at her. Finally, Noah was led back to his cell where he slowly untied his tie and unbuttoned his shirt. Noah lay down on his hard bed and reached under his pillow for his photograph of Megan “I’ll be with you soon Megs, I promise.”

3x2: 'Put your claws away ladies' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty The sound of running water echoed around the Spencer house as Siobhan Spencer stepped into the steaming hot shower. She closed her eyes as she let the water soothe her, she relaxed as the heat of the water made her feel calm. Feeling guilty from shouting at her twelve year old daughter Emily the previous evening, Siobhan gently rubbed the shampoo into her hair, however a wave of dizziness washed over her and she fell forward and hit her head on the cold bathroom tiles. Downstairs, Siobhan’s stepson Anthony was smiling as he talked to his boyfriend Tate Yorke on the phone “Stop teasing, did you get the tickets?” Anthony asked impatiently. “I’ve bagged us VIP passes so we get to hang out backstage with the band after” Tate answered an air of excitement in his voice “Finally, knowing my mother has actually led to something good” He laughed. While Anthony continued to make plans with Tate, Emily was sat at the table as her grandmother Katherine Lavery placed a cooked breakfast in front of her. “Morning, morning” Josh Connor smiled cheerfully as he walked into the kitchen “Or not” As he noticed the look on Emily’s face.

“You again?” Harry Campbell questioned as he found his brother Kyle on his doorstep “I didn’t even see this much of you when we lived in the same house” Harry joked as he invited Kyle in. “I need to borrow some money bruv” Kyle admitted. “A few of us are heading over to Portsmouth for a gig tomorrow night” Kyle explained. “So you’re asking me to fund a night of underage drinking for you and your mates?” Harry teased. “Underage drinking, when did you become a cynic?” Kyle asked, trying to sound innocent. Harry raised an eyebrow “I was young once” He commented as he opened his wallet. “How many light years ago?” Kyle laughed as Harry handed him some money telling him to split it with Molly. Along the hallway, Vicki Connor couldn’t help but overhear the brother’s conversation; she looked over at Luke who was fast asleep. She thought back to Kyle’s reaction when he caught former girlfriend Vicki and his brother Luke together. Feeling guilty, Vicki sighed as she realised she felt disappointed that she wasn’t included in the group’s plans.
*
“Are you going to court today?” Katherine asked her daughter Siobhan as they walked across Canvey Crescent; however Siobhan walked ahead almost as if she hadn’t heard her mother. Katherine asked Siobhan again, but before Siobhan could answer, they noticed Steven Faraday. “What’s the rush?” Katherine asked as Steven sped past her. “Sorry Katherine I don’t mean to be rude, I need to catch Heather before I head to the court” Steven explained before Katherine inquired about Steven’s father Duncan. “I haven’t seen much of him since the wedd…” Katherine let the sentence trail off. “Yeah he’s good” Steven muttered “Sorry, I really need to see Heather” Steven said a quick goodbye and rushed off. “Why do you think he needs to see Heather so badly? Maybe Sophia wants the house…you don’t think it’s anything to do with Alfie do you?” Katherine thought aloud. “I wish you would stop gossiping, the Faraday’s business has nothing to do with us.”
*
At the courthouse, Imogen Sandford held boyfriend Daniel Hastings’ hand supportively as they stood with his daughter Megan Donovan and ex-wife Lindsay Faraday. Megan was pacing the corridor as they prepared for the second day of her husband Noah Donovan’s trial for armed robbery. “Look at them, so smug” Megan spat as Tommy and Adam Thompson were led past her in handcuffs. “I could kill them” Daniel snapped as Tommy caught his eye. “Let’s just stay calm and remember where we are. The walls have ears” Imogen hinted quietly to Daniel. Lindsay felt physically sick as she shared a charged moment with Adam; she glared at him as she rubbed her stomach. “I thought everyone could do with a sugar boost” Natalie Hunt interrupted the cold atmosphere as she handed a coffee each to Lindsay, Daniel and Megan. “Sorry Imogen, I didn’t realise you’d be here. I thought it was just family” Natalie tried to explain. “So what’s your excuse then?” Imogen snapped. “Put your claws away ladies” Daniel ordered in annoyance.
*
Inside the courtroom, Noah Donovan was nervously talking to his lawyer Jay Willis. “Everything will be fine Noah” Jay tried to reassure, but Noah admitted that he was afraid of what the Thompsons might say. “Don’t worry, I’m prepared. I’ve come up against harder men than them.” As he made his way into the public gallery, journalist Josh Connor looked over at the arriving jury. He took a seat and pulled out his note book. “You’re covering the case?” Cole Donovan asked. “Please Josh, give him a fighting chance.” Cole pressed. “I’ll write the facts Cole, it’s the best I can do” Josh replied. As they men fell silent, Daniel, Imogen, Lindsay and Natalie joined them in the public gallery. “Something odd about that one, I mean she barely knows Lindsay, what’s she doing here?” Imogen questioned quietly as she eyed Natalie. “Being supportive” Daniel answered. “Now stop looking for fault where there is none” Daniel warned.
*
At the Fields’ house, an unshaven David Fields made his way into the kitchen. “Who was that at the door earlier?” David grunted as his mother Eileen explained that Duncan had called in to see how they were doing. “You let a Faraday into my home, into Michelle’s home. How dare you after everything that family has done” David shouted slamming his fist down on the table, Eileen backed away and looked towards the door as she heard Alfie begin to cry. “I’ll see to Alfie and you my boy, you’d better calm down by the time I get back” Eileen ordered as she rushed from the room.
*
“The prosecution calls Thomas Thompson to the stand please” The courthouse clerk announced. Tommy entered the courtroom as Noah turned his head away from Tommy’s smug taunts. “I swear by…” Tommy began. Meanwhile, outside the courtroom, Megan was still pacing the floor. She jumped as she felt someone touch her arm, she relaxed as she found her uncle Steven smiling supportively. “Everything will be fine Megs, trust me” Steven tried to encourage. Megan thanked her uncle, but admitted she didn’t share his positivity. “Grandad” Megan’s face lifted in delight as she run into Duncan’s arms. As Duncan embraced his granddaughter, he stared at his son Steven coldly. Inside the courtroom, Tommy was stood on the stand “I have a long history with Noah, he didn’t have a dad around, you could say I felt sorry for the boy. That’s why I took the blame when he beat up that kid” Tommy explained. “Mr Thompson, can you please answer the question” Jay ordered referring to her line of questioning about the siege. “Yes of course” Tommy obliged. “Noah came to us, me and my son Adam. He had this plan; he told us he knew the family that owned the pub. He was with the daughter, so he had learnt the layout of the pub. He’d been watching them for months, timing, everything” Tommy lied as he did everything he could to paint Noah in a negative light. “Noah planned everything, he was very exact in his approach to this job” Tommy shot a subtle grin towards Noah in the box. Noah stood up furiously “That’s a lie, it’s all lies. You planned it, you made me do it” Noah shouted as Jay ordered Noah to sit back down. “Order in court” The Judge demanded. “Noah, son, please stop” Cole begged from the gallery as Noah sat back down glaring at TommyWalking along the beach, Sophia Faraday bumped into Harry and his girlfriend Chloe Charles; they made polite conversation before Chloe asked how Sophia was coping in wake of her break up from Steven. “You know, for the first time in a long time, I feel free” Sophia admitted as Chloe took Harry’s hand in hers “I know that feeling.” Chloe smiled as Harry noticed Kyle and Vicki arguing further along the beach. Harry left Chloe and Sophia talking as he approached the former couple. “You have no idea what he’s like” Kyle warned. “You’re pathetic, a jealous little boy” Vicki spat “You can’t face the fact that you weren’t man enough to keep me” Harry tried to calm the situation, but Vicki was fuming. “Tell your brother to stay away from me” Vicki ordered. “Which one?” Harry replied coldly. “Luke’s a bad guy, I know it and Harry knows it” Kyle tried to convince Vicki. “You’re both as bad as each other, pathetic” Vicki snapped as she stormed off. Kyle began to give chase, but Harry pulled him back “She’s made her choice mate.”
*
Back in court, Adam had just finished giving his evidence and was being taken back to his cell. He grinned as he walked past Megan “Are you happy with yourself? You heard me, you and that pig you call a father, you’ve ruined my life” Megan lashed out as Steven pulled her away. “Leave it Megan” Steven advised as he was called into court. Duncan pulled Megan into a hug “I hate him Grandad” Megan said tearfully. “I know sweetheart, I know” Duncan whispered.
*
Olivia Fitzgerald turned on the kettle in the back room of Kane Creations; she jumped with a fright as her husband Matthew snuck up behind her. “You made me jump” Olivia said as she tried to catch her breath. “Sorry babe” Matthew apologised as he held out a single rose towards Olivia. “Thank you” Olivia said quietly as she turned away from him. “What’s the matter?” Matthew asked concerned. Olivia explained that she had tried to see her sister Naomi at the secure unit, but she had again refused to see her. Before Matthew had the chance to respond, Olivia’s niece Ava Donovan arrived to see her aunt. Olivia made the tea as Matthew asked how the trial was going. “It’s up and down; Jay thinks he has a good chance” Ava explained “Part of me thinks he deserves to be punished, but…” Ava paused “I wish Mum was here.” She admitted. “I know she feels the same, that place she’s in, no one in their right mind would want to be there” Matthew tried to sound supportive “At least the view’s nice” Matthew sighed. Ava picked up on Matthew’s comment as she remembered Matthew claiming that Naomi attacked him the moment he walked through the door. How would he know what the view was like?
*
“I’ll regret that night for as long as I live” Noah began “I know I’m not without blame…” The prosecution lawyer Carrie White interrupted “Mr Donovan, let’s go back to the night in 2012 when you viciously beat up Ben Harper because you thought he was ‘trying’ it on with your girlfriend Megan Hastings.” Noah explained that he saw red, but he has never let his temper get the better of him since. “But you did Mr Donovan, mere days later when you blackmailed Mr Thompson into taking the blame” Carrie explained. “No, it was his idea” Noah panicked. “He offered to take the blame for a serious crime? No, Mr Donovan, you blackmailed Mr Thompson by threatening to expose his affair to his wife. Is that not the truth Mr Donovan?” Noah shook his head “You’re twisting everything” Noah pleaded. “I put it to you Mr Donovan, that it is you twisting things. Twisting lies until in your head they resemble the truth. It was you who masterminded the robbery at the Crown and Horseshoe; it was you who forced the Thompsons to help you. You’re a blackmailer, a brute and you are guilty” Carrie forced. “No” Noah snapped “You’ve got it wrong. I agreed to the plan, I didn’t have a choice. I helped so I could make sure the people inside were safe.” Noah blurted out. “There you have it Mr Donovan; you knew exactly what you were doing when you entered that pub.”
*
Inside the Last Minute Supermarket as she waited for her mother Katherine to finish cashing up, Siobhan found herself having to lean against a shelf. She tried to focus her eyes as she struggled with dizziness. “Oh my God Siobhan” Katherine worried as she helped her daughter to sit down. “I’ll call a doctor” Katherine tried to look for her phone, but Siobhan grabbed her hand to stop her. “Don’t, I already know what’s wrong” Siobhan began “I think I’m pregnant” Siobhan blurted out as she explained she suffered dizziness and blurred vision when she was first expecting Emily. However, as Katherine encouraged Siobhan to take a pregnancy test, the women didn’t notice Josh stood in the doorway having heard everything.
*
David helped Eileen carry the shopping as she pushed Alfie in his pram, Eileen talked about how big Alfie was getting when they were approached by Heather Connor outside their flat. “David, I’m so sorry to have to do this, but I need you to read this” Heather handed David an official looking envelope, David ripped it open and read the letter. David furiously crumbled the letter up in his hand and stormed off. “I’m so sorry” Heather apologised as Eileen called after her son.
*
Josh stared at his pint as his father Michael joined him in the Crown and Horseshoe “What’s the emergency?” Michael asked as he sat down with his son. “Siobhan’s pregnant” Josh blurted out straightaway. Michael remained silent for a moment from the shock before offering his son his congratulations. Josh looked up at his father, looking lost. “I can’t be a father, I don’t know how” Josh confessed. “No one does Josh, do you think I knew what to do when you arrived. I know you Josh and I know you will make a great father” Michael began “And you wanna know why, because you’re already second guessing your ability to do it. You love Siobhan and she loves you, I know you would both raise this child to be the best that they can be, I’m proud of you son” Michael patted his son on the shoulder as Josh thanked him.
*
As night fell on Canvey Island, Katherine and Siobhan sat snuggled up on the sofa with Emily as they watched a Ryan Reynolds rom com. Siobhan smiled as Josh joined them putting his arm around his girlfriend, Siobhan laughed as Josh stole her spoon and dug into the chocolate ice cream. Meanwhile, back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay and Natalie were talking as they enjoyed a bottle of wine in the corner, Imogen watched them curiously. At the other side of the bar, Sophia was ordering another bottle of wine to join them, but finds herself making awkward small talk with her estranged husband Steven. Suddenly, David stormed into the pub. Megan froze for a moment as the doors crashed against the wall “Megan” Lindsay called out as the memories of that night came flooding back. “You prick Faraday. It wasn’t enough for you to break her heart and treat her like dirt, now you want to take my son away from me” David lashed out. “Alright mate, calm down” Daniel ordered as Steven tried to explain to David that Alfie was his son. “He wasn’t your son when you left him and abandoned him to go back to your wife. What? Now she doesn’t want you, you think you can take Alfie.” David snapped. “None of that changes the facts David, it’s my blood running through that boy’s veins” Steven slammed. David turned and floored Steven with a single punch “You’ll get him over my dead body” David warned

3x3: 'Beep beep, your ride has arrived' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty One The April sun shone brightly above Canvey Island as Megan Donovan stepped out of the Crown and Horseshoe where she lived with her father Daniel Hastings. Dressed in black, Megan was once again preparing to attend court for her husband Noah’s trial for armed robbery. Megan tried to smile as her aunt Sophia Faraday approached her “How you feeling sweetheart?” Sophia asked. “If I had a pound for every time someone’s asked me that my wardrobe would be full of high heels and designer dresses” Megan joked. As Sophia encouraged Megan to stay strong, Sophia’s estranged husband Steven approached sporting a black eye. “I need to get to the club, best of luck today” Sophia said as she supportively squeezed Megan’s shoulder and left. “She can’t even bare to be in the same place as me” Steven sighed. “You can hardly blame her Uncle Steven” Megan snapped as she told him that there were people out there with far bigger problems than him.

Siobhan Spencer held onto the bannister tightly as she made her way down the stairs. Her step son Anthony rushed past nearly knocking her over “Oi, watch it mate” Josh Connor snapped as he walked through the front door. “It’s fine Josh” Siobhan muttered. “No Shive, not in your condition” Josh blurted out as Siobhan stared at him in astonishment “Who told you? My mother I suppose, when will she learn to leave things alone” Siobhan ranted as she walked away from Josh. “Where’s the pickle?” Anthony asked before explaining that it was Tate’s favourite sandwich filling “I thought I’d make us a nice lunch before we head off to the gig” Anthony explained, but Siobhan felt nauseous and soon enough rushed to the bathroom.
*
Noah Donovan stood on the stand as his defence lawyer Jay Willis began to question him “On the night of the armed robbery, you along with Thomas Thompson and Adam Thompson raided the Crown and Horseshoe pub on Canvey Island, is this true?” Jay asked. “Yes” Noah replied. “Can you explain the lead up of the night in detail for the court” Jay urged. Noah nodded and spoke up clearly “I was friends with Adam…Adam Thompson, we were good mates. And his dad, Tommy, well he used to look out for me because my own dad…” Noah paused and looked up at his father Cole who was sat next to his aunt Olivia Fitzgerald in the public gallery. “My dad couldn’t be around. We were close” Noah explained. “Is this relevant?” Carrie White, the prosecution lawyer interrupted. The Judge urged Noah to get to the point. “I hurt Ben, the guy who came onto Megan. I own up to that, but when you see a man getting heavy with someone you care about…” Noah paused. “Anyway, Tommy told me he’d sort it. I wanted to own up, but Tommy said to look at it as a favour that I could repay him” Noah continued and explained that on the night of the siege, Tommy had called in that favour. “I begged him to pick another pub, but he wouldn’t listen. I didn’t want to do it, my girlfriend and my family were inside. I knew I had no other choice, if I was there I could’ve protected them” Noah said emotionally “I tried to protect them.”

At the Fields’ house, Eileen Fields made her way into the living room and smiled as she found her son David holding Alfie and singing to him “How much is that doggie in the window” David sang but stopped as he noticed Eileen. “I do hope that doggie’s for sale” Eileen smiled. “That was your favourite as a child.” She revealed. “Alfie seems to like it too” David lifted Alfie and kissed him on the forehead “I won’t lose him Ma, I can’t” David said emotionally.

Standing on Canvey High Street outside the Last Minute Supermarket, Anthony and his friend Mia Faraday walked out of the shop carrying a bag full of sweets and drinks. They greeted twins Molly and Kyle Campbell as they approached with their mother Chrissie and foster mother Kayla Macey. “What time did Tate say he’d pick us up?” Molly asked Anthony. Anthony looked at his watch “Any time now.” He answered. “Are you sure you have enough money?” Kayla asked as she fixed Kyle’s collar. “Kayla” He hissed, embarrassed. “Mia sweetheart, you forgot this” Sophia shouted out the car window and held out Mia’s phone. “We’re only a phone call away if you need us” Chrissie told Molly. “Mum, this isn’t the first time we’ve been out to a gig” Molly complained as Siobhan and Josh walked past. “Make sure you behave yourself” Siobhan warned as she jokingly pulled Anthony into a motherly kiss. “Come on Siobhan, we’re late for the appointment” Josh urged as Tate Yorke finally pulled around the corner of the main street in a bright red Winnebago. “Beep beep, your ride has arrived” Tate cheekily announced. “Where did you get that?” Mia asked impressed. “There are some benefit to having a rich step dad” Tate laughed. As the teens clambered into the Winnebago, a fuming Eileen stormed past. “Looks like old lady Fields is on the rampage again” Kyle joked as Eileen made her way into the Last Minute Supermarket, almost knocking Vicki Connor over in the process “Watch where you’re going old lady” Vicki spat. “Don’t try my patience today lady” Eileen barked as Vicki tut and walked out the shop. “What’s the panic Eileen?” Manager Katherine Lavery asked. “Mind your own, where’s Duncan?” Eileen demanded. “I might tell you if you actually asked me nicely” Katherine said, offended by Eileen’s rudeness. “Oh forget it, I’ll find himself” Eileen snapped and disappeared.

Back at the courthouse, Megan was sat in the corridor with her parents Daniel Hastings and Lindsay Faraday “I wish I could get it over with” Megan commented. “I know darling, once you’ve given your evidence you can be inside supporting Noah” Daniel encouraged. “Thanks Dad, I know how you feel about what Noah did, but you being here and supporting us…it means everything” Megan leaned on Daniel’s shoulder while Lindsay thanked her brother Steven for his support. “It’s about time I start putting my family first for a change” Steven replied. “How are things with Sophia now?” Lindsay asked. “My marriage is over Linds, I’ve accepted that now. All that matters now is that I bring Alfie back where he belongs.” Megan stood up abruptly as Cole Donovan walked towards them. “Noah did okay today, he was honest and remorseful and I think the jury can see that” Cole explained positively, he looked over at his daughter Ava who was sat on the other side of the corridor with Olivia. “The courts adjourned for the day sweetheart” Cole told Ava that she’d probably be giving evidence the next day.

“I’ve been looking everywhere for you” Eileen snapped as she found Duncan walking along the beach with his golden retriever. “Well here I am” Duncan smiled leaning in to kiss Eileen. She pulled away “Did you know what he was planning?” Eileen demanded. “You mean the custody petition” Duncan realised. “How could you not tell me? How could you let Heather bloody Connor spring that letter on my son when he’s still grieving?” Eileen said emotionally. “I didn’t know Eileen, I had no idea Steven wanted custody of Alfie, but can you blame him? He’s Alfie’s father” Duncan pointed out. Eileen shook her head in disgust “Biology doesn’t make a father, David adores that boy, he has cared for him since the moment Michelle found out she was expecting. He’s more of a father to Alfie than Steven could ever hope to be” Eileen said passionately. “Eileen, you have to understand Steven has a right to Alfie, more than David does” Duncan tried to explain, but Eileen refused to listen “He might not be ours by blood, but Michelle entrusted her son to us so that makes David his father” Eileen maintained. “He’s not your grandson Eileen, he’s mine and I’m glad Steven’s decided to fight for him” Duncan admitted. “You’d better tell Steven to roll up his sleeves because we won’t go down without a fight”“I’m bored” Vicki moaned as she got frustrated with her boyfriend Luke Campbell focusing on his X-Box rather than paying her any attention “Go take a selfie of your boobs then” Luke joked as Vicki playfully hit him. “We should do something; maybe we could go and see a gig?” Vicki suggested as Luke laughed and pulled her into a kiss “You’re as subtle as a brick babe” Luke laughed “A gig, it wouldn’t happen to be the same gig the Scooby Doo gang are going to see tonight?” Luke teased. “I would like to go, they are my friends after all” Vicki muttered. “Some friends, they didn’t even ask you to go with them. You’re lucky you’ve got me” Luke pointed out “Close your eyes and hold out your hands” Luke smiled as Vicki obliged. Luke placed two tickets to the Portsmouth gig in Vicki’s hand “I told you babe, subtle as a brick and as predictable as rain” Luke laughed as Vicki squealed with delight. “Thank you, thank you” Vicki said as she kissed Luke excitedly. “Now go and get ready while I finally finish this game” Luke muttered as Vicki rushed off to the bedroom.

At the Doctor’s Surgery, Siobhan asked Josh to stay in the waiting room while she went in to see the doctor. “As you can see from the test Siobhan, you’re definitely not pregnant” Dr Arthurs revealed. Siobhan breathed a sigh of relief “But what about the test I took at home?” Siobhan asked. “A false positive is rare, but it’s possible. But we will take a blood test to make sure” He explained as Siobhan smiled. “You look relieved” He observed. Siobhan nodded “I don’t think I quite have the energy for night feeds and nappy changes at this stage in my life” Siobhan confided as she thanked the doctor. Siobhan smiled as she approached Josh in the waiting room, he looked at her expectantly as she made their well out. “I’m not pregnant, it was a false alarm” Siobhan said as she noticed the disappointment on Josh’s face. “Are you okay?” She asked. “Yeah course, lucky escape right” Josh lied as he took Siobhan’s hand “How about we go get a drink, a real one, no more orange juice” He faintly joked.

Stood near the front of a long queue outside the Grand Bar in Portsmouth, Vicki was excited as she waited patiently with Luke. “It’s gonna be a good night” Vicki beamed “Mia’s gonna love you” She commented, but her face fell as she watched her friends arrive and skip the queue with their VIP tickets. Mia noticed Vicki first and stopped awkwardly, Kyle threw his brother a look of disgust as he gently guided Mia towards the entrance. “You alright mate?” Tate asked. Kyle shook his head “Just someone I used to know” Kyle muttered before turning his attention to Mia “I could do with a drink” He hinted. “Thanks for organising this, I think this is exactly what we all need” Anthony smiled as he kissed Tate. “Anything for you babes” Tate paused “I love you Ant” Tate confessed, smiling as he realised what he had said. Anthony broke into a smile “I love you too” Anthony responded leaning in to kiss Tate. Once inside, Luke handed Vicki a cocktail and encouraged her to talk to her friends while he caught up with an old mate. Vicki nodded and made her way over to Molly “Hey” Molly said politely but tried to move away, but Vicki didn’t take the hint. “Don’t look now, but that guy is totally checking you out” Vicki whispered pointing Molly over to a guy standing across the bar. Molly blushed as he smiled “He looks older” Molly observed. “Think of it as experienced, look if he asks, tell him you’re in college if you’re that worried” Vicki pressed. Vicki lightly pushed Molly to move closer to him, she turned back towards Vicki “I can’t, what do I say?” Molly panicked. As she turned back around, Drew Lomax was stood next to her “Can I get you a drink?” He offered. Molly hesitated “Yeah sure…I’ll have a coke please” Molly smiled nervously. “Obviously with a double” He teased. “Of course” Molly nodded. Up on the first floor balcony, Mia was dancing as the band finally started to play, she smiled as Tate and Anthony brought over a few drinks “They seem alright so far” Mia commented. Vicki smiled as she walked over to Mia, who looked around nervously for Kyle “I don’t want any trouble Vicki” Mia warned straightaway. “I hate us not being friends Mia” Vicki admitted, but out of the corner of her eye she saw Luke hand something over to a young man and his girlfriend. She frowned as Luke joined her a few minutes later “What did you give that guy?” Vicki questioned. “Keep your voice down” Luke snapped as a bouncer walked past them “Was that…” Vicki let the sentence trail off. “Don’t give me that look” Luke warned “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it” Luke whispered in Vicki’s ear as he pulled her towards the toilet.

Back on Canvey Island, Kayla and Chrissie sat at the bar in the Crown and Horseshoe as Chrissie’s wife Jay joined them. Jay pecked Chrissie on the lips before ordering a bottle of beer from barmaid Chloe Charles. “Stressful day?” Chrissie asked. “You could say that” Jay admitted “He’s a good kid, he just made a mistake” Jay confided as she admitted that the outcome of Noah’s case could go either way. “It’s a pretty big mistake Jay, people are still trying to put their lives back together after that night” Kayla said. Across the bar, Siobhan and Josh were sat awkwardly, while sitting close together, the couple couldn’t be further apart “You wanted me to be pregnant didn’t you?” Siobhan asked breaking the silence. Josh shrugged “When I first heard you and your mum talking, I won’t lie Siobhan the idea of being a dad scared the hell out of me, but I talked to my Dad and I realised that I was just scared that I wouldn’t be good enough” Siobhan reached over and took Josh’s hands “Oh Josh, you are good enough, you just have to see the way you are with Emily” Siobhan said, but soon changed the subject “I wonder how Anthony’s night’s going.”

At the Grand Bar, Tate and Anthony were dancing as the band began to slow things down in preparation for their last song. Meanwhile, up on the balcony Mia caught Molly’s eye as she danced with Drew “Looks like Molly’s pulled” Mia said to Kyle, but he was distracted by Luke walking past with his arm around Vicki. “Hold this” Kyle held his drink out to Mia. “You really have no idea” Kyle spat towards his ex-girlfriend “He’s nothing but a sleaze” Kyle lashed out. Vicki shook her head and angrily faced up to Kyle “Maybe you should keep control of your dog” Vicki spat looking over towards Mia. Kyle laughed in anger “What the hell did I see in you? If you knew what he has planned for you…” Kyle warned as Luke got in his face “You better watch your mouth bruv” Luke barked as Kyle spat on the floor “I’m no brother of yours, you’re dead to me.” Kyle began to walk away “Come on babes, let’s leave the boy and I’ll show you what a real man can do” Luke smirked at Kyle who lost his temper and dove towards his brother. Kyle angrily punched Luke who soon managed to get the upper hand. Mia screamed for help as Vicki tried to stop the fighting brothers. As the brothers continued to fight, they crashed into tables and the people standing watching, Kyle violently pushed Luke as Mia got caught in the crossfire, as they went crashing into the balcony, someone lost their balance and fell over the rail, hitting the ground below with a sickening thud. From the dance floor, Molly’s scream was deafening as she, Anthony and Tate all rushed forwards while the night club became deathly silent

3x4: 'You've heard the answers he's given on Who Wants to be a Millionaire' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty Two There was a slight breeze in the night air as Steven Faraday paced the footpath outside the home he used to share with his wife Sophia and his family. “Just knock mate, it can’t be any worse than standing out here not knowing” Cole Donovan encouraged as he walked past, Steven smiled and nodded as he walked towards the front door. Steven waited patiently, while Cole noticed his daughter Ava walking towards him “You look tired sweetheart” Cole observed. Ava shrugged and nodded “I just wish all the waiting was over, I just want to give my evidence and then it’s over…for me anyway” Ava confided as they walked into the Donovan house “I know Noah’s my brother and I should feel protective, but Dad, all I feel is torn. I was there that night and my life hasn’t been the same since” Ava began to tear up as Cole pulled her into a hug “We don’t have to talk about this now, how do you feel about popcorn and a rom com?” Cole asked. “You watch a rom com? Things must be serious” Ava joked, attempting to lighten the atmosphere.

Steven looked around the Faraday home awkwardly as he noticed the furniture had been changed around. “The place looks different…good” He commented. “Steven why are you here?” Sophia asked coldly. “I wanted to talk to you about earlier in the pub” Steven began as Sophia interrupted “Oh, the night David hit you because you want custody of your child” In the corner of her eye, Sophia caught sight of a wedding photograph, she painfully turned away. “I should have discussed it with you first” Steven admitted “You shouldn’t have found out that way” Sophia shrugged “Steven what you do with your child is nothing to do with me” Sophia explained. Steven nodded and got up to leave as Sophia’s phone began to ring “Hello” Sophia muttered as she opened the front door to let Steven out, but as he stepped outside, Sophia grabbed hold of his arm. Sophia dropped her phone and looked at Steven in shock “Mia…” Her voice cracked “She’s had an accident.”
*
Lindsay Faraday stood alone in the Crown and Horseshoe after closing time; she closed her eyes tightly “It brings it all back” Imogen Sandford appeared from upstairs. Lindsay opened her eyes and looked over at Imogen “It never really goes away” Lindsay responded. “Once the trial’s over, we can all move on” Imogen commented “Need a hand?” Imogen offered. “Really?” Lindsay asked in surprise. “I have been known to do the occasional good deed” Imogen smiled “Just don’t tell anyone” She joked as she began to collect the empty glasses from the tables. “You’re okay with me and Daniel right?” Imogen asked suddenly. “It’s not really any of my business” Lindsay reasoned. “You were married, you have a child together. I’d like to know what you think” Imogen said honestly. “I want Daniel to be happy and if you’re the person who can do that, then you have my blessing” Lindsay assured. “But believe me Imogen, if you hurt him, I will hurt you” Lindsay warned. “So you’re over him then?” Imogen joked as she and Lindsay shared a smile.

Duncan Faraday rushed into Canvey Island General Hospital and found his son Steven pacing the corridor, while his daughter-in-law Sophia sat with her head in her hands. “Sophia” He whispered as she stood up and fell into his arms “They’re still assessing her; they said she’s in spinal shock. Her spine Duncan…what if…” Sophia panicked as Duncan soothed her “She’s going to be okay Sophia” Duncan whispered supportively. Duncan moved away from Sophia as he noticed Tate Yorke and Anthony Spencer approach, Kyle Campbell shaking as he walked behind them. “What the hell happened? How could you let this happen?” Duncan snapped at Anthony “You’re her best friend” Duncan said emotionally. “This wasn’t our fault” Tate spoke up, but Anthony pulled his arm. “It was me, this was my fault” Kyle blurted out “Me and Luke were fighting and Mia…” He let the sentence trail off. Duncan was forced to hold Steven back as he dove towards Kyle “My daughter is in there because of you” Steven lashed out “She could die and you’re telling me it’s because you got into a fight with your brother” Steven shouted as Sophia begged him to stop. “Get off him” Kyle’s foster mother Kayla Macey pleaded as she and Chrissie Campbell rushed towards them. Kyle’s older brother Harry pulled Steven away “Stop Steven” Harry demanded as Chrissie reached towards Kyle, however he moved closer to Kayla “It was an accident Kayla, I never meant for Mia to get hurt” He said emotionally. “My daughter could end up in a wheelchair because of him” Steven snapped. “He’s a child Steven, there’s better ways of dealing with this” Harry cautioned. “You’re right, I want him arrested” Steven demanded “Steven stop, it’s the doctor” Sophia and Steven both rushed towards the consultant.
*
Outside the hospital, Molly Campbell and Vicki Connor sat on a bench shivering “What if she dies?” Vicki questioned breaking the silence. “Don’t” Molly warned as her brother Luke approached. “Let’s go home Vic” Luke growled. “What about Mia?” Vicki frowned. “You can’t just leave” Molly stood up and walked towards Luke, pulling at his arm. “It’s not my fault the stupid girl got in the way” Luke spat as Molly shook her head in disgust “You really haven’t changed” She walked back towards the entrance to the hospital “Are you coming Vicki?” Molly asked as Vicki stood up and looked from Molly to Luke. “Call me if you find anything out” Vicki muttered as she left with Luke. Back inside the hospital, Sophia felt physically sick as she wiped away a tear. Duncan walked along the corridor and handed Steven a coffee. He sat down next to Sophia and held out the cup, but she didn’t take it. “You need to drink something” Duncan pressed. “Why? Who do I need to drink? To keep my strength up…so I have the strength to tell my little girl that her spine is so badly damaged that she might never walk again” Sophia said tearfully “Go on then, give it to me” Sophia took the coffee from Duncan and threw it against the wall. “It’s not fair” Sophia cried as she fell into Duncan’s arms “It’s not fair” She repeated. Behind them, Steven helplessly stood behind them fighting back the tears. Hearing Sophia’s sobs, Steven’s strong façade failed and let began to tear up.

Luke and Vicki were very quiet as they arrived back at Harry’s flat; Vicki was shivering and shaking, a mixture of shock and withdrawal. She scratched her arm furiously and looked helplessly at Luke. “I need something stronger, like before” Vicki pleaded. “Greedy girl” Luke walked over to his backpack and pulled out a bag of brown powder and a syringe. “I don’t like needles” Vicki whispered. “I promise you babes, it’ll be worth it. Smoking it’s all well and good, but straight in the vein will give you exactly what you need” Luke pressured. “I’m scared” Vicki admitted. “You don’t need to be scared babes, I’m right here” Luke promised as he began to dissolve the heroin powder. A few minutes later, Luke walked over to Vicki holding the needle “So if I give this to you, what do I get in return?” He asked with a smirk. Vicki moved closer to Luke and began to kiss him passionately “Not now babes, I’ll call in the favour when I need it” He pulled up the sleeve of Vicki’s top and started to look for a veinIt was early the next morning as Jay Willis joined her client Noah Donovan in his cell “I have to talk to you about something important” Jay began “We have to use the drawing Noah” Jay admitted as Noah stood up and shook his head “I told you, we can’t. I won’t put Megan at risk” Noah pleaded “They will kill her” Jay sighed in frustration “It’s not looking good Noah, the prosecution have a really strong case and the fact is Noah, the Thompsons paint a good story about you using your connection to the Hastings to plan the siege. This drawing of the pub layout could be your only chance” Jay explained. “You can’t even prove Adam drew it” Noah snapped. “We can send it for a handwriting analysis, Noah the only way you can make sure Megan is safe is if you are with her” Jay pleaded “Let me use this drawing and make a statement, I promise you Noah, this is your best chance” Noah sighed “I can’t risk Megan getting hurt” Jay leant in close to Noah “They can’t hurt her if they’re in prison and you sure as hell can’t protect her if you go down” Jay warned.
*
Megan Donovan breathed a deep sigh of relief as she left the courtroom “Well done darling” Lindsay said as she hugged her daughter, an exhausted Megan broke into tears “Is she okay?” Imogen asked as Daniel nodded “She will be. All this has been a lot to deal with, giving evidence, watching Noah in the box and now everything with Mia” Daniel explained “It was bound to catch up on her” Daniel sighed as he looked helplessly at his daughter. Meanwhile, at the hospital Steven sat next to his father “Lindsay called, Megan’s given her evidence” Duncan mentioned. He reached out and held onto Steven’s hand “Mia will get through this” Duncan reassured as he thought about his youngest granddaughter in surgery.
*
Noah stood in the box and thought back to his wife Megan giving her evidence on the stand “I have never felt fear like it, I was dragged around by Tommy Thompson, he pushed me and he wouldn’t stop even when I told him I was pregnant” Megan explained “Noah was forced into taking part in that robbery, he’s suffered enough” Megan looked over at the jury pleadingly. Noah looked over at Jay and whispered that he had changed his mind about using the letter.
*
Ava smiled as she gave her mother Naomi a hug “Sweetheart, it’s so good to see you again” Naomi beamed as she then asked how Noah’s trial was going. “I gave my evidence, I spoke up for him mum” Ava confided “Oh Ava, I know that must have taken a lot for you to do” Naomi replied supportively. “My brother is a lot of things, but he’s not some kind of criminal mastermind. You’ve heard the answers he’s given to Who Wants to be a Millionaire” Ava tried to joke. “You done something amazing for this family Ava, I’m really proud of you” Naomi smiled as Ava changed the subject. “I need you to tell me again about your mirror” Ava said carefully. “Do you want the truth or do you just want to hear what you want to believe?” Naomi asked as Ava answered “The truth” Naomi recalled the day Matthew visited her in the secure unit and explained how he broke the mirror and cut his own face. “Matthew told us that you refused to see him in your room, he said he only got as far as the door” Ava explained. Naomi shook her head “He’s lying, he was in here and he sat with me looking out the window as he listened to me apologising” Naomi said angrily. Ava thought back to Matthew’s comment about the view from Naomi’s room “I need to go now Mum” Ava whispered. “So soon” Naomi said softly, feeling disappointed. “I just need a little time to think” Ava admitted and wished her mother goodbye.
*
Sitting beside her daughter Mia’s bed, Sophia clung tightly onto Mia’s hand as she waited for her daughter to come round after her surgery. She lightly stroked Mia’s palm with her hand while across the room, Steven stared out of the window. He sighed as his phone rang “I’m sorry Heather, now’s not a good time” Sophia looked at him with disgust as he finished the phone call. “You really are something Steven” Sophia spat in anger “How about you try concentrating on your daughter rather than trying to steal your bastard child back” Sophia lashed out “That’s not fair Sophia” Steven protested. “I’ll tell you what’s not fair, our little girl never walking…” Before Sophia could finish, she heard a faint voice. “Mia” Sophia cried as she rushed back towards her daughter. “Mum, I can’t feel my legs” Mia said tearfully and confused.

“Noah Donovan has a track record of violence, blackmail and has admitted to his role in the armed robbery at the Crown and Horseshoe. This is a case of fact, not fiction. Noah Donovan was there on the night the pub was raided, he is guilty and a guilty is the verdict I urge you to agree on” Prosecution lawyer Carrie White finished her closing statement; Noah looked nervously over at the jury as Jay began her own closing statement. “Nobody is disputing that the night of the siege was a terrible night for the community of Canvey Island. It has haunted them every day since, but Noah Donovan is not solely to blame for this awful tragedy. Mr Donovan has shown genuine remorse for his role in the crime and you have been presented with new evidence which damages the Thompson’s claim that Noah planned the robbery. I present to you a man bullied and blackmailed into a crime that destroyed his own family and the family of the woman he loves, on that basis I urge you to deliver a not guilty verdict.” Jay pleaded passionately. Sat in the public gallery, Cole put his arm around Megan and they both smiled supportively at Noah as he was led from the court in handcuffs of what they hope will be the final time

3x5: 'I'm ready to be me again' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty Three The moonlit sky cast a dull light over Canvey Island, lying in her bed Megan Donovan turned over and stared at the photo frame on her bedside table. A photograph of her and Noah on their wedding day “I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride” the registrar smiled. Megan thought about how Noah held her in his arms, she remembered how safe she felt in his arms. Megan turned and stared out of the window at the silver moon. From his prison cell, Noah was also staring out of the window. He was thinking about the night he and Megan first got together. There was a beach party hosted by the Hasting’s to celebrate their wedding anniversary, Megan had arrived looking stunning in a blue summer dress with her blonde hair tied up with a white flower. He remembered thinking to himself; I want to marry that girl one day. Snapping back to reality, Noah got into bed, hoping and praying that it would be his last night on the inside and the next he would finally be reunited with his wife and his family.

Kayla Macey sat in her kitchen nursing a cup of tea which had long since gone cold “Penny for them” Chrissie Campbell offered as she sat down at the table opposite Kayla. Kayla smiled weakly “How are they?” Kayla asked about the twins. “Still in shock, but they’re asleep” Chrissie answered. “I just keep thinking about Steven and Sophia, after everything that happened at the wedding and now this…life just isn’t fair” Kayla sighed “Do you ever wonder if this is it? Is this all I’m gonna do and achieve? Working in a corner shop to pay the bills” Kayla mused. “I guess we all want more from life, it’s just finding the courage to go and get it. What’s brought all this on?” Chrissie asked. Kayla shrugged “I’m not sure, I’ve just been doing a lot of thinking. Patrick had so much more to give and achieve, and look at poor Mia. She had her whole life ahead of her and now she might not even get to walk again” Kayla said sadly “It just puts everything into perspective. I want more from my life, I want to do more than just go to work, cook, clean and repeat” Kayla confided before telling Chrissie she was heading to bed.

Canvey Island was a precious sight as dawn broke over the beach, Chloe Charles breathed deeply as she jogged along the beach, she stopped and took out her I-Pod earphones as she approached her best friend Olivia Fitzgerald “You’re up early” Chloe observed. “I couldn’t sleep, the verdict’s out today. I can’t stop thinking about Noah” Olivia explained as Chloe comforted her. “It’s Megan I feel sorry for, she’s so young. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if it was Matthew who was on trial” Olivia sighed “So you’re getting back into the jogging routine then, I’ve got to stop being so lazy” Olivia asked changing the subject. Chloe smiled “A girl’s gotta keep trim” Chloe teased. “For Harry?” Olivia hinted as Chloe broke into a wider smile “You know me Liv, I never kiss and tell” Chloe laughed as she continued her jog.

As she opened up the Last Minute Supermarket, manager Katherine Lavery faintly smiled at her boss Duncan Faraday as he walked along the high street. “You okay darling?” Katherine asked softly “How’s Mia doing?” Duncan followed Katherine into the shop “They’re doing more tests on her spine today, she’s not good Katherine. She knows there’s something wrong, I feel so helpless, so useless” Duncan confided as Katherine put her arms around him. “Come on Duncan, you’re the strongest person I know. You don’t give up, your granddaughter needs you more than ever” Katherine encouraged. Duncan nodded and thanked Katherine for her support. Meanwhile, Imogen Sandford made her way into the shop and bumped into Cole Donovan “How you doing?” She asked politely. “A bit nervous, but I guess that’s to be expected” Cole admitted. “I’m sure everything will be fine today, he’ll be home with you in time for Tipping Point” Imogen said positively “Let’s hope so, thanks Imogen” Cole muttered as he walked away.
*
“It’s just terrible” Heather Connor commented to Siobhan Spencer as they sat in the Connor kitchen with a cup of tea. “I’ve tried calling Vicki but she won’t return any of my calls” Heather admitted. “A mother is supposed to be there for their child, but she won’t let me anywhere near her” Heather said sadly. “She’s still in shock after everything at Christmas, she’ll let you back in, she just needs some time” Siobhan said supportively. “How’s Anthony coping?” Heather asked. “Not good, both boys saw everything. He’s really struggling knowing that there was nothing he could have done to help her. I’m hoping Tate can talk to him and help him through this.” Siobhan explained. “Poor Sophia and Steven, it’s every parent’s worst nightmare. Oh God, when Jake had that overdose, I was beside myself” Heather said as Siobhan asked if she wanted to be include on the card and flowers she had ordered for the Faraday’s. “That would be lovely Siobhan, let me give you some money” Heather said as she rummaged through her hand bag, but Siobhan told her not to worry.

At the courthouse, Megan was stood next to Cole and Ava as her parents Daniel Hastings and Lindsay Faraday arrived. Lindsay stroked her daughter’s hair as she asked how Megan was feeling. Across the hallway, Cole stood with his daughter Ava. Ava looked towards Megan and smiled supportively. Hesitantly she moved so she was stood by her best friend “I’m sorry I haven’t really been there for you” Ava admitted. “It’s okay Ava, I know how hard this is for you too” Megan sighed. “I just want our lives back, I want my husband back and I want my best friend back” But before Ava could answer, a clerk called them into the court. “The jury’s returned” Cole said nervously.

Outside the Fields’ house, David Fields and his mother Eileen were stood outside the front door as Eileen was making sure that Alfie was tucked into his pram. Eileen stepped out of the way to let David push the pram but he didn’t move. Eileen sighed as she took his place “A walk will do us the world of good, a bit of fresh air always does the trick…clear our minds” Eileen spoke softly as they began to walk out of the crescent. “I don’t need my mind clear, look I’m sorry about what’s happened to Mia. She doesn’t deserve it, but it doesn’t change anything between me and Steven. He’s not getting my son and that’s the end of it” David snapped as he walked ahead of Eileen.

“All rise” The court clerk announced as the Judge took his seat. Jay Willis turned around to face Noah and gave him a small smile. He looked over at his family in the public gallery as Cole took the hands of both Megan and Ava. “This is it” Cole whispered. Megan and Ava shared a worried look, while Lindsay looked nervously at Daniel; he smiled softly and put his arm around his former wife. Daniel’s girlfriend Imogen caught the moment out the corner of her eye and frowned. In the row behind Siobhan sat with her partner Josh Connor and his father Michael “They won’t let him off will they?” Siobhan asked Michael. “I really don’t know Siobhan” Michael answered. “Has the jury reached a verdict on which you are all agreed?” The Judge asked the foreman of the jury who confirmed that they have. “And how do you find the defendant Noah Donovan, guilty or not guilty on the count of armed robbery?” A silence fell over the court as Noah’s loved ones waited with bated breath. “Guilty” The foreman of the jury announced. “No” Megan screamed as she burst into tears and fell into Cole’s arms. Ava stood stunned which Daniel and Lindsay looked worriedly at their daughter. Noah looked over at his wife and begged her not to cry “I love you” Noah mouthed as Cole and Lindsay tried to comfort MeganMegan stood in the public gallery; her eyeliner looked smudged as she took a deep breath ready to listen to Noah’s fate. “I would like the defendant Noah Donovan to stand please” The Judge asked. Noah, who was visibly shaking stood up and looked the Judge in the eye. “You have been found guilty of armed robbery. I have taken each piece of evidence into account including a detailed plan of the Crown and Horseshoe pub which through handwriting analysis casts a doubt over the evidence given by Thomas and Adam Thompson. Each character reference put forward on your behalf supports your defence and taking into account the time you have already served on remand, I have decided how we shall move forward” The Judge paused as Noah’s family and friends struggled to take a breath. “Noah Donovan, I sentence you to a two year suspended sentence, you are free to leave today, but I must warn you Mr Donovan, you need to keep yourself out of trouble otherwise you will find yourself straight back into prison” The Judge warned as Noah close to tears, thanked the Judge. He turned towards his family and whispered “I’m coming home.”

Kayla stood outside an empty building which stood beside Kane Creations, Kayla daydreamed about opening her own business “This is it everyone, the grand opening” Kayla smiled as she cut a red ribbon. “Kayla” Chrissie said ushering Kayla out of her daydream. “I was calling you from across the street” Chrissie laughed, curious about Kayla’s thoughts. “I was a million miles away” Kayla admitted. “Somewhere hot I hope” Chrissie joked. “This would be a great location for a little café” Kayla confided. “I used to think about opening my own place” Chrissie opened up “A trendy little café, but knowing me back then, I would have drunk the profits before the close of business on the opening day” Chrissie explained as Kayla looked at her thoughtfully.

Outside the courthouse, Megan paced the street as her father Daniel congratulated Cole on Noah’s sentence. Cole smiled and shook Daniel’s hand “I hope this is a new beginning for us all” Cole said. Josh and Michael guided Siobhan out of the courthouse, but she stopped as she noticed Cole smiling “Just because he’s free doesn’t change anything” Siobhan spat “He’s guilty as sin and no one will forget what he did” Siobhan warned as Josh pulled her away. Cole looked over at Megan “You okay?” He asked as she nodded. “That night hurt a lot of people” She sighed. Ava looked towards her aunt Olivia as she rushed towards them “Cole, I’m so sorry, the car…” She tried to explain. “Suspended sentence Liv, he’s coming home” Cole celebrated as he hugged his sister-in-law. Megan fell silence as turned towards the door and caught Noah’s eye. She smiled as she slowly began to walk towards Noah; soon it turned into a run. Megan jumped as Noah caught her in his arms. Picking her up, Noah slowly lowered Megan and kissed her passionately on the lips “It’s me and you now, forever.” He beamed.

Harry Campbell opened the door to a smiling Chloe “Pizza and beer, what did I do to deserve this?” Harry asked as he invited Chloe in. “I thought you could do with it after the last few days” Chloe explained as she leaned in to kiss Harry. As the couple sat down on the sofa, Chloe looked hesitant. “What’s wrong?” Harry asked concerned. Chloe shook her head “Nothing” She answered, Chloe slowly pulled Harry closer to her “I want you to know, I am ready for this, for us” Chloe began “I trust you Harry and I want to give this a go, I’m not saying I won’t freak out, but I’m ready to be me again and I think we could have something here” Chloe explained honestly. Harry smiled “I think we could have something too, I don’t want to pressure you and rush you into anything Chloe. It’s on your terms” Chloe thanked Harry and pulled him into a passionate kiss.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel found Lindsay stood out the back “How you feeling?” Daniel asked. “This is really all over” Lindsay sniffed “A new beginning Linds” Daniel responded. “I keep thinking about Steven” Lindsay admitted “Mia’s strong, she’ll get through this” Daniel said supportively. Back inside the pub, Noah nervously walked over to his sister Ava “I know the trial wasn’t easy for you, I’m not asking you to forget that night Aves, but I want the chance to make things right. I promise you sis, I want to make all this up to you and I will spend the rest of my life trying” Noah pleaded. Ava looked conflicted “You’re my brother Noah, I can’t change that no matter how much I want too” Ava began to walk away “I’m glad you didn’t go to prison” Ava admitted. “Well, that’s a good start” Noah smiled softly. Cheers filled the room as Cole popped open a bottle of champagne and toasted to Jay’s success for Noah. Katherine stood up disapprovingly and glared at Noah as she left “It’s not gonna be easy is it?” Noah asked his father Cole. Cole smiled softly “It never is” He admitted. Across the room, Ava joined her aunt Olivia at the bar. “Where’s Matthew tonight?” Ava asked curiously as Olivia explained that he had a meeting. “I thought he might have gone to see Mum again” Ava pressed as Olivia raised her eyebrow “After the last time?” Olivia questioned. “He mentioned the view from Mum’s room” Ava began “But I don’t understand how he would have known about the view if Mum attacked him as soon as he walked through the door” Ava mused. “You’ve been spending too much time with your mother” Olivia snapped “Don’t ruin today Ava, tonight is about Noah getting a second chance” Olivia muttered as she walked away.

At Canvey Island General Hospital, Sophia Faraday stood outside her daughter Mia’s room as her friend Natalie Hunt joined her. “How do I tell her?” Sophia asked sadly as estranged husband Steven approached. “You need to be strong babes and you need to tell her together” Natalie advised “Mia needs both her parents” Natalie wished them well and left them alone. “She shouldn’t have to go through this, she’s young, pretty. So full of life, how can we tell her that she might never walk again?” Sophia questioned as Steven took her by the hand. The former couple walked slowly into Mia’s room and sat down next to her bed. Silence fell as Steven began to speak; the scene remained silent as Mia began to cry as she listened to her parents. Sophia clung on tightly to her daughter’s hand as the Faraday's strong façade began to break

3x6: 'We can't all wake up and look like Taylor Swift' | Written by Hannah | Episode Sixty Four A week had passed and it was a bittersweet feeling for the Faraday family as they rejoiced to finally see Megan Donovan reunited with her husband Noah after he was released from prison on a suspended sentence, however their joy was hampered by the news that Megan’s cousin Mia may never regain the use of her legs. Duncan Faraday walked into his living room to find his daughter-in-law Sophia glued to the laptop screen as she once again googled for case studies about spinal injuries. Duncan’s daughter Lindsay joined him in the doorway as they both observed Sophia with worried looks on their faces. “I don’t think she’s slept in a week” Lindsay muttered. “I don’t think any of us have” Duncan admitted “If I could swap places with Mia, I would in a heartbeat” Duncan confided as Lindsay put her arm around her father. “Why don’t we collect together a few things for Mia, take her mind of everything” Lindsay suggested. “She won’t let anyone in to see her apart from Sophia, not even Steven” Duncan stepped back and walked into the kitchen “She’s been through a lot in the last few months” Lindsay stated sadly “Too much for someone so young.”

Siobhan Spencer knocked once again on the bedroom door of her stepson Anthony, eventually she gave up and let herself in to find him underneath the duvet cover “You can’t have more time off work Anthony” Siobhan said annoyed. Anthony just grunted as Siobhan sat down on the bed and pulled the cover towards her. She sighed as she took in the dark circles around his eyes “Have you been having nightmares again?” She asked softly. Anthony sat up and nodded “We took her to that gig, we should have been looking out for her” Anthony confessed “I was too wrapped up in myself and Tate, I didn’t even think about Mia” He said sadly. “This wasn’t your fault; this was just a tragic accident. If anyone’s to blame it’s those bloody Campbell brothers, getting into a fight at the top of a balcony, someone was bound to get hurt” Siobhan ranted, but stopped as she noticed Anthony getting upset again, she pulled him into a hug “You need to be strong for Mia now, she needs all the support she can get and so does David, so take a shower and go and open up the garage. Life has to go on Anthony” Siobhan advised as she encouraged Anthony to get up.
*
At the flat above the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan Donovan smiled wistfully as she woke up to find her husband Noah sleeping soundly next to her, she lightly kissed him on the neck until he woke up “That’s definitely a nicer way to wake up than what I’ve been used to” Noah joked as he sat up and leaned in to kiss Megan. “What do you fancy doing on your first day of freedom?” Megan asked and suggested a few ideas to Noah. “To be honest Megs, what I really really want…” He teased “…is a greasy fry up, the full works” Noah laughed “Your every wish is my command” Megan smiled as she jumped out of bed and walked towards the kitchen. Megan smiled as she found her father’s girlfriend Imogen Sandford sipping a cup of tea at the table “It suits you” Imogen said as Megan looked at her in confusion. “Being happy” Imogen clarified. “I never thought something as simple as cooking breakfast for my husband could mean so much” Megan beamed as Imogen stood up “I’ll leave you to it, I think you two could do with some time alone” Imogen said as she headed downstairs to the bar.
*
At the garage, Eileen Fields sat at the desk going over the accounts as she noticed a pile of unopened letters on the side. She cursed as she opened them to find several final demands “Oh David” She whispered as mechanic Anthony noticed her distress and asked if she was okay. “We’re heading right down the river without a paddle” Eileen commented still staring at the bills “We need David to get his head out of the bottle and get back to work” Eileen said in frustration. “He’s still grieving” Anthony pointed out. “Well he has a son to fight for and he can’t do that if his business goes under.”

Vicki Connor opened her eyes and struggled to focus as the room spun; she slowly sat up in bed and winced at the pain coming from her arm. She looked down at the marks and bruises covering the inside of her arm, she jumped up quickly from the bed and rushed into the bathroom to throw up. Sitting back on the cold bathroom floor, Vicki was shivering furiously as her need for more heroin intensified. Vicki groaned at the sound of the front door, but when the knocking didn’t stop, she slowly made her way to answer. “What do you want?” She demanded as Molly Campbell invited herself in. “I thought we could go and see Mia together” Molly suggested “Are you okay Vicki? You look terrible” Vicki rolled her eyes and poured herself a glass of water “We can’t all wake up and look like Taylor Swift” Vicki spat. Molly rolled her eyes “I guess you’re not up for coming to the hospital then?” Vicki shook her head as she shivered. “I’m not stupid Vicki, I know how to recognise an addict when I see one” Molly said suddenly. Vicki’s face twisted in anger “Go away Molly, you’re a silly little girl who knows nothing about the world” Vicki lashed out. “You need help” Molly protested, but Vicki wasn’t listening “Believe me, help is not what I need right now” Vicki ushered Molly towards the front door; once Molly was on the other side Vicki slammed the door leaving Molly on the doorstepJosh Connor walked into the Canvey Island Observer to find his boss Andrea Yorke waiting by his desk “I’m not one for waiting around Joshua” Andrea pursed her lips. “I had a meeting with Daniel Hastings about the new advertisements for the Crown and Horseshoe” Josh explained. “Did he like the mock ups?” She asked as Josh nodded and explained that he had a couple of changes to make. “Well put that on hold and get up the hospital. I want a follow up article about the night club accident and the teenage girl’s recovery” Andrea pushed as Josh tried to interrupt. “I don’t think I’m the right person for this one, my girlfriend’s son is friends with Mia” Josh said finally. Andrea glared at him “I’m giving you the chance for a front page article and you’re trying to get out of it” Andrea complained and walked towards her office, Josh rushed after her “I’ll write the article” He agreed.

Noah stood with his younger sister Ava outside their mother’s room at the secure unit “Thank you for coming with me Aves” He broke the silence. Ava shrugged “This is for mum” She stated as they walked into the room. Naomi stood up and took in the sight of her son, he rushed towards her and held her as tightly as he could “I missed you mum” He whispered as Naomi became tearful. “Everything is going to be okay, I promise you both” Naomi looked over at Ava, who smiled back at her in return “You’ll be home soon too” Ava promised, but looked at Noah with uncertainty. After an hour, Noah stood up and promised him mum that he would return the next day to see her “You coming sis?” Noah asked Ava. Ava shook her head and told him that she wanted a bit more time with Naomi. After Noah had left, Ava took a seat next to Naomi by the window “I think you could be right” Ava broke the silence. Naomi nodded “I think it’s about time I told you the whole truth about what happened between me and Matthew all those years ago” Naomi began.

As Eileen left the garage, she noticed Duncan walking along Canvey High Street towards the Last Minute Supermarket; she rushed to catch him up. “How’s Mia doing?” Eileen asked. “As you’d expect” Duncan answered sharply. “I don’t want things to be like this between us Duncan, I want to be there for you and Mia” Eileen explained emotionally. “I won’t change Steven’s mind about Alfie” He stated dryly. Eileen sighed in frustration “And I won’t change David’s…but that doesn’t mean I can’t support you” Eileen moved towards Duncan, but he stepped backwards “I have to get to the hospital” Duncan muttered and before she could say anything else, Duncan had disappeared. “He’s got a lot on his mind” Eileen said to Katherine Lavery, who was outside the Last Minute Supermarket finishing a display of fresh flowers. Katherine walked towards Eileen “Maybe you should give him some space” Katherine suggested which offended Eileen “Maybe you should get a man of your own before you start dishing out your advice” Eileen lashed out and walked off abruptly. As Katherine walked back into the shop, her daughter Siobhan walked in to pick up fresh salmon for dinner “Shouldn’t you be somewhere?” Katherine questioned as Siobhan stared at her in confusion. “I thought it was parent’s evening” Katherine expanded. Siobhan cursed “I completely forgot” She admitted. “This isn’t like you sweetheart, you’re usually so organised” Katherine put her hand on Siobhan’s shoulder “I know, things are just getting on top of me” Siobhan admitted and thanked her mother as she left for the school.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Noah and Megan were sat together in the corner giggling. Over at the bar Lindsay was stood with her former husband Daniel Hastings “She looks so happy” Lindsay observed. Daniel smiled “I never thought I’d see that smile again” Daniel admitted. “I know he’s not the husband we would have picked out for her, but he makes her happy” Lindsay said as Daniel agreed. Noah kissed Megan on the lips as she smiled “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking” Megan said suddenly “I want to go back to college” She confided as Noah admitted he was surprised. “I love working at the club, but I could do so much more” Megan explained “When I helped organise Olivia’s hen night I was really good at it and I really think I could make a career out of it” Noah raised an eyebrow “You want to plan parties?” He said. Megan nodded “Hen nights, wedding receptions, charity events…I’ve found a course on event planning, it sounds perfect” Megan said excitedly as Noah pulled her into a kiss “You know I’ll support whatever you want to do Megs” Noah smiled.

A montage began as Siobhan and Emily arrived home from parent’s evening, Siobhan ever the proud parent as she congratulated her daughter’s achievements. At the Faraday home, Duncan sat down next to Sophia who was once again researching on her laptop, he handed her a glass of red wine and put his hand on her arm supportively. Meanwhile, Eileen sat at her kitchen table looking through the garage’s paperwork; she emotionally dropped her head in her hands as she worried for her son’s business. At the Crown and Horseshoe, Lindsay was sat listening to daughter Megan’s plans, while Daniel and Imogen served together behind the bar, making quite the team. Noah sat outside the pub and smiled as his father Cole walked towards him, offering to buy him a drink. While at Harry’s flat, Vicki lay barely conscious as she held a syringe in her hand, she smiled as she was taken away from reality[/div]

3x7: 'Being dead doesn't allow you the liberty to help those left behind' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty Five Michelle hovered over baby Alfie's crib; she smiled as she fondly stroked her son’s hair and wished him a good night. Stepping back from the crib, Michelle stumbled backwards as the room began to spin; her hand reached her head as she felt a shooting pain. Losing her balance, Michelle fell to the ground. From the living room, David heard the crash and rushed towards the bedroom “Michelle, are you okay?” He questioned as he found Michelle on the floor. Rushing to her side, David pulled Michelle closer to him and turned her face towards him “Michelle, babe” He pleaded as her face became pale “Michelle, please wake up, babe please” David begged, shaking Michelle in attempt to wake her up, David’s own hands were shaking as he realised that Michelle had stopped breathing “No, please Michelle, baby come back to me” David begged, but it was too late. Michelle was already gone. The scene fades into a memory of David and Michelle smiling as they brought Alfie home from hospital, David pulled Michelle into a kiss as the scene then fades to black.
“Life wasn’t meant to be like this” Michelle Fox began as she blinked several times before closing her eyes tightly. “Life has a habit of never working out for me, but this time, I guess this time I had the nerve to dream and well…now I guess I’ll have that eternal dream that everyone longs for.” Michelle opened her eyes and allowed a single tear fall from her eye as she watched her partner David Fields cling to her lifeless body. “Michelle, please wake up” David cried as he struggled to comprehend what had happened. “I wish I could help David, but being dead doesn’t allow you much liberty to help those left behind” Michelle said softly. David’s grief was distracted as their newborn baby boy Alfie began to cry. “Alfie ssh” David pleaded as he was torn whether to leave Michelle to comfort his son or stay by his fiancée’s side. David gently lay Michelle on the ground and wiped his face as he walked over to Alfie’s crib. David picked up a sobbing Alfie and gently cradled him in his arms, as David held Alfie, Michelle began to cry. She sadly left the room as she realised what she had lost.
*
“Time passes much faster now” Michelle said softly as she walked along the beach of Canvey Island. “I always liked to walk here, early in the morning or late at night. There was always something peaceful…” Michelle let the sentence trail off “I remember I always used to bump into Duncan early in the morning, walking the dog. Of course Duncan was always the last person I wanted to see. I didn’t want to have to think about my affair with Steven or how I was hurting Sophia and Mia” Michelle explained “It all seems so trivial now…” Michelle mused, but she was distracted by the raised voices of Kyle Campbell and Vicki Connor. “Please Kyle, just listen to me” Vicki begged as Kyle maintained that he never wanted to see her again. “Please let me explain” Vicki pleaded, but Kyle just pushed her away “You dropped your knickers and screwed my brother…my brother Vicki! Doesn’t take much explaining” Kyle spat. “Never a dull moment” Michelle sighed as she watched the young lovers argue. “I never meant to hurt you, Luke…he makes me feel…he can offer me a better life, a life that I deserve” Vicki tried to explain, but realised how selfish it made her sound. “Oh trust me Vic, you’ll get what you deserve” Kyle warned before walking away from Vicki.
*
Staring at her reflection in the bathroom mirror of the Crown and Horseshoe pub, Olivia Fitzgerald remained oblivious to Michelle’s presence behind her. “So beautiful” Michelle whispered “I always envied Olivia’s natural beauty and class…although I’d never let her know that” Michelle confessed as she noticed Olivia holding something in her hand. As Olivia overturned the pregnancy test in her hand, Michelle could see that the test was negative. Olivia felt a mixture of emotion as she reapplied her make-up and tried to smile. “I wouldn’t be too disappointed Olivia, you’d never cope with the stretch marks” Michelle said as she followed Olivia into the bar of the pub. “Whoa” Michelle inhaled deeply as Sophia Faraday walked straight through her. Turning around to see Sophia drunkenly approach the bar, Michelle thought back to the argument the two women had earlier that day. “Linds, can I get a bottle of champagne please?” Sophia asked as her sister-in-law Lindsay Faraday frowned “I think you’ve had enough to drink” Lindsay hinted. “I’m celebrating, it’s not every day you don’t get married” Sophia laughed. “The pain you’re feeling Sophia, I hope it eases” Michelle whispered.
*
Heather Connor felt numb as she walked into the Crown and Horseshoe, across the bar she met the eye of her estranged daughter Vicki who was stood with Luke Campbell. Luke shared a charged look with his own mother Chrissie Campbell who was sat with her wife Jay Willis and friend Kayla Macey. “Lindsay” Heather said breathlessly “It’s so terrible…” She began “The ambulance just left, poor David” Heather confided. “Oh my God” Lindsay exhaled as her ex-husband Daniel Hastings rushed over to her “What’s wrong?” He questioned. “It’s Michelle...she’s dead” Lindsay said sadly. “What?” Sophia gasped as silence fell across the pub. “Eileen I’m so sorry” Heather said softly as Eileen fought her way through the crowd to the front. “Where’s David? Where’s my son?” Eileen demanded. “What about Alfie?” Duncan asked, Eileen turned towards him in disgust “The girl is barely cold” Eileen snapped. “I wasn’t implying anything” Duncan responded. “Go on Eileen, you tell em” Michelle smiled softly. Heather put her arm around Eileen as she offered to drive Eileen to the hospital. After they had left, Michelle turned around to find Sophia looking lost “Are you okay Sophia?” Lindsay asked. Sophia felt numb “Poor girl” She whispered. “Of all the sympathy, I wasn’t expecting yours” Michelle said.Barmaid Chloe Charles poured brandy into several glasses as Daniel and Lindsay handed out the drinks to the community. The pub was sombre as they took in the news of Michelle’s death. “It’s such a tragedy” Michelle’s voice echoed around the quiet pub “She was so young, a young life stolen” Michelle mused “These are the things I’ve heard my friends say” Michelle said sadly “Some of them I only know to say hi to, I guess you don’t really know how people feel about you until it’s too late.” Chloe handed Harry Campbell a brandy, they both looked at each other sadly as they took in the news. “You okay?” Chrissie asked Kayla, but Kayla remained silent. She nodded before excusing herself; Kayla made her way outside and sat down on a bench. Kayla thought about her own partner Patrick Hale, it had barely been two months since she had lost her own fiancé, if there was anyone who knew what David was going through, it was her. “Need a hug?” Kayla’s foster daughter Molly Campbell asked as she sat down next to her. “Yes please” Kayla and Michelle both whispered at the same time. Michelle slowly walked away as Molly comforted Kayla.
*
A shattered and emotionally drained David stood in the hallway of his flat, the home that he had shared with his fiancée Michelle and their son Alfie just hours before. Michelle stared at David from the doorway, he looked towards her, but of course saw straight through her as his eyes settled on a framed photograph of the couple, Alfie and David’s mother Eileen. Eileen followed David through the front door carrying Alfie in her arms “I’ll put the kettle on, I can make you something to eat if you like” Eileen said softly as she gently placed her hand on David’s arm, but David remained silent. “I wish David would talk to his mother. She might be a judgemental old cow, but she does love him.” Michelle sighed.
*
Matthew Fitzgerald opened a bottle of red wine and poured two glasses, he handed one to his wife Olivia. “I still can’t take it in, a baby boy left without his mother” Matthew spoke softly, thinking about his own loss “Life can be so cruel” Olivia took a sip of her wine “I need to tell you something” Olivia began as she went on to explain her pregnancy scare “Are you okay?” Matthew asked, trying to hide how unnerved he felt by the news. “I’ve never really thought about having kids, but it made me realise that I would have been okay with the idea of having a baby” Olivia admitted “Maybe not now, but one day.” Matthew pulled Olivia into a soft kiss. He excused himself and made his way to the bathroom. Once inside, he leaned against the wall and covered his mouth with his hand to stop himself from falling apart as he thought about the deaths of his two daughters Amy and Sophie. Michelle stood next to him “I never realised how much you have lost. To look at you, you would have thought you owned the world” Michelle began “But then with you, appearance is everything and you are executed in the pursuit of keeping up appearances.” Matthew washed his hands and face; he touched the cut he had given himself after his confrontation with Naomi. “The wound in your final stance Matthew, it will heal but your day is coming, sooner than you think” Michelle warned.
*
Steven Faraday was still sat in Faraday’s Restaurant alone, mourning the breakdown of his marriage to Sophia. He barely acknowledged his father Duncan’s arrival “I’m so sorry son” Duncan began “Something’s happened” He paused “It’s Michelle, she died Steven” Duncan softly informed his son. Steven struggled to stand and find his feet, he choked up and in a fit of rage, Steven swept the entire counter with his arms, sending glasses and bottles crashing to the floor, Duncan moved forwards and pulled Steven towards him. “We all have to pay for our sins Steven, but for you I think death would have been a lot less painless” Michelle whispered as she sat next to Steven on the floor. They both leaned against the counter; the ex-lovers had never been so close, yet so far away.
*
It felt like she had been walking aimlessly for hours, now Michelle was stood at the foot of Naomi Donovan's bed “I feel like I’m going mad and well…I thought of you” Michelle said as she sat on the end of the bed “We worked together for years, but I don’t think I ever really knew you” Michelle mused. As a peaceful Naomi slept, Michelle began to cry “I’ve never felt so alone” Michelle whispered. Naomi opened her eyes and sat up “Who’s there?” Naomi asked as she looked around the empty room. Michelle stood up and noticed the broken mirror, she looked directly into the shattered glass, but she could no longer see her reflection. “Why me?” Michelle questioned “I don’t want to go, I’m not ready” Michelle begged emotionally.
*
The dawn began to break on Canvey Island, Michelle stood at the edge of the beach. She could see a little boy building a sandcastle on the sand with an older looking woman. The pair were joined by a man as he opened his arms and lifted the little boy into the air and spun him round. The woman laughed as she told him to be careful. Hope began to fill within Michelle as the man turned towards her and she saw it was David. David and the young boy walked towards her “Alfie?” Michelle’s voice broke. “Mummy, did you get my ice cream?” Alfie asked. “No sweetie, they didn’t have any, but I promise to get you some when we go home” Michelle said. “Pinky promise?” Alfie smiled “Pinky promise.”
*
Michelle stood over her own lifeless body, she stared at David who was holding Alfie close to him. David kissed his son on the forehead as Alfie’s hand lay across David’s cheek. Taking Alfie’s hand, David promised to always be there for him. David tried to compose himself as he placed Alfie back in his crib. “Please let me go back, let me say goodbye please” Michelle sobbed. As David knelt down bedside Michelle, he pulled Michelle close to himself and held her to his chest “Michelle” David whispered as a weak and dying Michelle looked up at Alfie and then back at David “I love you both, my boys” Michelle whispered as she closed her eyes for the final time

3x8: 'This isn't a Disney movie' | Written by Hannah | Episode Sixty Six Noah Donovan was sat in the living room in the flat above the Crown and Horseshoe pub in the early hours of the morning; he wasn’t used to the quiet. He had spent every night sleeping to the sounds of shouting and the crying of the other prisoners; he had often wished for a quiet night’s sleep, but now the silence unnerved him. Meanwhile, at Canvey Island General Hospital, Mia Faraday lay wide awake staring up to the ceiling, there were a hundred and thirty six white tiles on the ceiling, she had counted and then she had checked more than once. Mia winced as she tried to lift her arm to scratch an itch she had on the back of her head, the sensations of pain confused her. Below her waist, Mia literally could feel nothing, but above, Mia was still in a lot of pain. She struggled to reach her button, but eventually she managed to press and within minutes the nurse was stood in front of her. “I need some more pain killers” Mia said pleadingly. The nurse sighed with sympathy “I’m sorry Mia, you’ve still got another couple of hours before I can give you anything else” Mia closed her eyes tightly “But it hurts” She begged. “A couple of hours, I promise” She smiled softly as she readjusted Mia’s pillow.

At Kane Creations, Olivia Fitzgerald yawned as she turned the sign on the door from closed to open, the moment she turned to walk, the bell rang and Natalie Hunt was stood with a bright smile on her face. Olivia stared at her in confusion as Natalie made herself at home. “I know it’s only a trial day, but I hope you don’t mind that I brought my own stuff” Natalie smiled as she looked towards her case. “I’m so sorry, I completely forgot you were coming in today” Olivia admitted. “Do you want a tea?” Olivia offered as a way of an apology. “Yeah please” Natalie replied and began to unpack on an empty table. “I’ve been thinking of expanding into nails for a while now, but I haven’t had the chance to train. You’ve come along at the perfect time” Olivia smiled politely. “Glad I can be useful” Natalie answered positively. As the women began to get to know each other better, Olivia’s best friend Chloe Charles interrupted “Fancy a few drinks tonight?” Chloe asked. Olivia smiled and nodded “I could do with a few” Olivia commented as Chloe questioned what was wrong. “Ava’s just been a bit funny with me lately, I think Naomi’s been getting into her head” Olivia admitted. “I thought Naomi was improving” Chloe said. Olivia shrugged “So did we, just she just seems to be going downhill again” Olivia confided. “Sounds like tonight is needed, you can bring your new BFF if you like” Chloe teased as she looked over to where Natalie was sat. Olivia laughed “Careful Chlo, you’re in danger of sounding jealous” Olivia shot back with a smile.

Chrissie Campbell looked smart in her black and white suit, she smiled as Kayla Macey greeted her outside the Last Minute Supermarket “Well, we definitely look the part” Chrissie commented as she complimented Kayla’s pencil skirt. As they walked towards the car, Matthew Fitzgerald walked past and whistled “You two look like you mean business” He smiled jokingly. Kayla laughed “We’ve got a meeting with the bank” Kayla replied, feeling excited for the day ahead. “Well I wish you luck with your meeting” Matthew said genuinely, a pang of guilt in his stomach as he thought about what Kayla had lost. Meanwhile, inside the small shop, owner Duncan Faraday was stood by the magazine stand “What about this one?” Duncan held up a copy of Shout Magazine towards his friend and manager Katherine Lavery who frowned and shook her head “Mia’s not twelve anymore” She walked forwards and picked up an issue of Cosmo Girl “I think this is more her age bracket” Katherine said helpfully “I saw Eileen a few days ago, she seemed upset” Katherine broached the subject delicately. Duncan shrugged “I can’t keep pretending Katherine, we’re on different sides. We both love Alfie and we both want our sons to raise the boy, someone’s going to end up with their heart broken” Duncan said sadly “As for my relationship with Eileen, we’re fighting a losing battle” Duncan confided.

At the hospital, Steven Faraday was once again sat outside his daughter Mia’s hospital room; his estranged wife Sophia looked tired as she emerged from the room. Steven stood up and approached her “Can I go in?” He asked hopefully. Sophia shook her head “She doesn’t want to see anyone Steven, I’ve tried” Sophia reassured, but Steven looked hurt. “I’m her dad” He whispered. Sophia sniffed sadly “She’s feeling vulnerable Steven, she doesn’t want anyone to see her like that, even you” Sophia tried to explain “Mia needs her rest, how about we go and grab a coffee, I’ve found a few rehabilitation clinics I want you to look at.” As Steven and Sophia left the ward, Kyle Campbell cautiously walked towards Mia’s room, making sure nobody was around; Kyle peered around the door and walked in. He tried to quietly sit down, but Mia sensed his presence and opened her eyes “What are you doing here?” She demanded. Kyle was shaken by the sight of Mia, lying flat on the bed unable to move. “I needed to see you Mia” Kyle said. “To see the damage you caused” Mia lashed out “Have you seen enough yet Kyle? Have you seen the freak you’ve turned me into?” Mia shouted loudly enough that the nurse burst into the room “You have to leave, you’re upsetting my patient” The nurse ordered and ushered Kyle out the room. Mia lay still, her eyes full of tears as she tried to re-focus her eyes on the hundred and thirty six white tiles on the ceilingOlivia and Natalie walked into the Crown and Horseshoe for lunch; Olivia found a table while Natalie ordered their food at the bar. “How’s your first day going?” Landlady Lindsay Faraday asked. Natalie smiled “I’m really enjoying it” Natalie replied. “So you’re definitely sticking around then?” Lindsay asked. Natalie nodded “It’s time for me to settle down in one place and this seems as good a place as any” Natalie smiled. “Good, it’ll be nice to have some female friends around” Lindsay said. “We’ll have to go out one night, you can show me the bright lights of Canvey” Natalie took a sip of her shandy. “You might want to lower your expectations on that one, Canvey Island isn’t exactly well known for its nightlife” Lindsay laughed. Meanwhile, Megan Donovan was sat at the bar as her husband Noah came in and sat down next to her. “How’s the job hunting going or shouldn’t I ask?” Megan asked as she ordered a pint of Fosters from the barman Tate Yorke. “Funnily enough most people don’t want to hire an ex con” Noah answered in frustration. “I know you hate the idea, but why don’t you ask your dad if you can do a few shifts at Chemistry?” Megan suggested, but Noah shook his head “I want to stand on my own two feet Megs, I want to provide for my wife not run to my dad for a hand out” Noah explained passionately.
*
Josh Connor stood apprehensively outside Mia’s hospital room which didn’t go unnoticed by her returning parents. “Josh, what are you doing here?” Sophia asked. “I just wanted to see how Mia’s doing” Josh stammered “Anthony’s been worried sick” Josh added. “She’s doing her best” Sophia replied “She’s so young, she should be worrying about manicures and fake tan not if she’s ever going to walk again” Sophia said sadly as Steven noticed the notebook that was in Josh’s hand. “What’s that?” Steven demanded suddenly causing Sophia to blush at his abruptness. “Oh…” Josh struggled to know what to say; before he knew it Steven had taken the notebook and read Josh’s notes on his article about Mia. Steven shook his head in disgust “Pathetic” Steven muttered “He’s writing a story” Steven said to Sophia and showed her the notebook. She stared at Josh in disappointment “How dare you come here and intrude on what we’re going through” Sophia ripped the pages from the notebook and threw it back towards Josh “You’re supposed to be a friend” She ranted in disgust. Steven ushered Josh away “Stay away from my family” He warned and pushed Josh towards the exit.

Laughter filled the kitchen of the Macey house as Chrissie opened up a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne, she handed glasses to Kayla, her daughter Molly and her wife Jay Willis. “Where’s Kyle?” Chrissie asked Molly as her oldest son Harry walked through into the kitchen with his girlfriend Chloe. Molly shrugged and admitted she hadn’t seen him all day. “He’ll just have to miss the celebrations” Jay stated. “Are you gonna tell us what we’re celebrating?” Harry questioned as Chrissie looked over at Kayla. “Your mother and I had a meeting with the bank today and against all the odds, our business plan has been approved” Kayla smiled excitedly. “And we signed the contract for the empty shop next door to Kane Creations” Chrissie added. Harry and Chloe congratulated Kayla and Chrissie while Molly was already making plans of possible names for the café. “I’d like to propose a toast” Kayla spoke up “To a Macey-Campbell partnership and many happy years to come” Kayla smiled as everyone took a sip of their drink.

It was late as Josh found his boss Andrea Yorke sitting in her darkened office with a glass of whisky “Fancy a night cap?” She offered. Josh shook his head “No thanks, Siobhan’s expecting me” Josh answered. Andrea rolled her eyes in amusement “You’re too young to be so domesticated” Josh chose to ignore her comment. He handed her his article about Mia and Andrea read it carefully, he struggled to judge her expression “What do you think?” He asked apprehensively. “It’s…you make the girl sound like a choir girl” Andrea frowned “She was underage in a nightclub, but you’ve neglected to mention that anywhere” Andrea said in annoyance “I didn’t mention she was with your son that night either” Josh retorted. “My son is nineteen years old, perfectly legal to be in a club. I give you a front page opportunity and you give me this” Andrea slightly raised her voice. “I was trying to be respectful, the Faraday’s need the community’s support, not gossip about their daughter” Josh defended, but Andrea cut him off “This won’t sell newspapers” Andrea warned “You’ll be lucky to get anywhere in this job Joshua, you need to harden up sooner rather than later.”

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Olivia looked around for Chloe as she reached the bar “Chloe’s running late, she told me to give you this on her” Tate smiled as he placed a large glass of Pinot in front of Olivia. “She definitely knows the way to my heart” Olivia laughed; she turned around and looked around the pub. Noah and Megan were sat next to each other, deeply engrossed in the lettings pages in the newspaper, while Lindsay and Natalie were sat together planning their night out. Olivia felt awkward as her niece Ava approached her cautiously “I don’t want to fight” Ava broke the silence. “Neither do I” Olivia admitted. “I just need you to hear me out” Ava pleaded and led Olivia over to a quiet table in the corner of the pub. “This needs to stop Ava, I know you love your mum but…” Olivia began, but Ava cut her off. “Did she ever tell you why she and Matthew split up?” Ava asked. Olivia remained quiet “It doesn’t matter why they broke up, she needs to stop dwelling on the past” Olivia maintained. “He was married Olivia” Ava blurted out “He had a wife and children, did he ever tell you about them? Her name’s Grace, she left him when she found out about my mum” Ava explained, but Olivia was getting frustrated, she stood up in annoyance “So what Matthew has a past, this isn’t a Disney movie Ava, everyone has a past” Olivia responded. “I’m not a kid; I do understand what goes on in relationships. Matthew lied, he lied about his wife, he lied about his children and he lied about his visit to Mum, you don’t know him as well you think you do Olivia. What else has he lied about?” Ava pushed as Olivia struggled to know what else to say

3x8: 'And I'm the Virgin Mary' | Written by Joe | Episode Sixty Seven The sun was hidden by a large grey cloud in the sky above Canvey Island as Eileen Fields held on tightly to the arm of her partner Duncan Faraday “This has been lovely” Eileen confided as she cuddled in closer towards Duncan. As Duncan’s golden retriever ran across the beach, Duncan smiled faintly. “What’s that face for?” Eileen asked as Duncan merely shrugged “You know if the wind changes, your face will be stuck like that” Eileen growled. “Can we just enjoy this walk without any arguing?” Duncan questioned in annoyance. “Arguing? I take it we’ve got something to argue about then” Eileen snapped as she moved away from Duncan. “Please Eileen just leave it, it’s too early in the day for all of this” Duncan sighed as he began to admit how much his son Steven’s break up with Sophia and granddaughter Mia’s accident had affected him. “Dad” Duncan turned around as he heard Steven call out his name. Duncan looked alarmed as he moved towards his son “What’s wrong? Mia?” He whispered frantically as Steven tried to speak “There’s been no change” He replied and pushed the Canvey Island Observer in front of Duncan. “Josh bloody Connor…his article. Drugs, underage drinking, he’s making out like she asked to get pushed off a balcony” Steven stormed as Eileen placed her hand on Duncan’s arm supportively. “I’m gonna kill him when I get my hands on him” Steven clenched his fist angrily.

Stood wearing only an apron in the Spencer kitchen, Tate Yorke was busy making breakfast for his boyfriend Anthony Spencer. As he heard the door open behind him, Tate smiled to himself “Just how you like it…” Tate began as he turned around holding two plates. “I just fancy a bowl of cereal sweetie” Siobhan, Anthony’s stepmother laughed as she stood next to her partner Josh Connor. Tate muttered his apologies and rushed out of the kitchen, his face a bright red colour. Josh laughed as he helped himself to the breakfast Tate had made. Siobhan’s mother Katherine Lavery burst through the kitchen door and glared at Josh “You missed the show Katherine, the naked chef’s disappeared” Josh joked. “Not for you Josh, what the hell were you thinking?” “Katherine ranted as she threw the morning’s newspaper on the table in front of Josh. “That poor family, after everything they’ve been through” Katherine snapped as Josh frantically read the article “I didn’t write this” Josh determined as Siobhan took the newspaper and read the article herself. “Can I come in? I promise I’m fully clothed” Tate joked apprehensively as he entered the kitchen with Anthony behind him. “What the hell is your mother playing at?” Josh said angrily as he stood up and snatched the newspaper from Siobhan “She changed my whole article” Josh ranted as he slammed the paper against Tate’s chest “The bitch re-wrote the whole thing” Josh carried on as Anthony and Siobhan both rushed forwards to pull the men away from each other “I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about mate” Tate maintained.

“Well, I can’t say that I’m not sorry to see you go, but I completely understand” Duncan reassured Kayla Macey as she handed in her resignation at the Last Minute Supermarket. “Onwards and upwards…no offense Duncan” Kayla smiled. “A new start” She said brightly. “I wish you all the best Kayla, a trendy little café is exactly what the high street needs. I should have thought about it myself” Duncan joked. Kayla joined her foster son Kyle Campbell over by the magazine stand while Duncan’s granddaughter Megan Donovan and her husband Noah placed their shopping on the counter in front of Duncan. “I couldn’t help but overhear you talking to Kayla” Noah began as Duncan confirmed that Kayla had left. “Don’t suppose you’d think about giving me a chance here?” Noah asked tentatively as Megan stared at her grandfather with hope. Before Duncan had the chance to respond, Kyle’s voice echoed around the small shop “This ain’t how it happened” Kyle said in disbelief as he read the article about Mia’s accident. Kayla looked towards Duncan who agreed “Please calm down Kyle” Kayla pressed “Mia doesn’t deserve this” Kyle dropped the newspaper and rushed out of the shop. “He’s right” Megan broke the silence “Mia doesn’t deserve any of this” She said sadly.

Outside the Crown and Horseshoe, Molly Campbell moved her revision books so that Ava Donovan could sit down “Thanks for this” Molly smiled as she thanked Ava for helping her go through her Chemistry revision “That’s alright, I brought you some of my notes from when I did my GCSEs” Ava said helpfully, but she paused as Ava’s eyes settled on the local newspaper that was tucked underneath a text book. “I can’t imagine what it’s like” Ava sighed “I feel so sorry for Mia, I know pity must be the last thing she wants right now, but…” Ava let the sentence trail off “I understand what you mean” Molly admitted, but found herself distracted as a young man approached the girls “Drew?” Molly stood up as she recognised Drew Lomax, the guy she met at the gig in Portsmouth. Meanwhile, inside the pub, Landlord Daniel Hastings was fuming as his girlfriend Imogen Sandford tried to collect the glasses from the tables “Lindsay’s absolutely raving, Steven and Sophia are already going through hell enough without all this crap” Daniel shook his head as Imogen approached him “I’m not too impressed myself, he’s made it sound like Anthony just stood there and watched” Imogen complained “It’s not the same as making out that Mia was some of kind drugged up party girl” Daniel countered as Megan and Noah walked into the pub.
Daniel’s expression softened as he noticed the smiles on the couple’s faces. “You too look pleased with yourselves” Daniel observed. “Grandad gave Noah a job at the shop” Megan blurted out as Daniel and Imogen congratulated Noah as Drew approached the bar with Molly “So what are you doing here?” Molly asked, wondering what had brought Drew to Canvey Island. “I just remembered you mentioned living on an island so I thought…I must be sounding like some kind of creepy stalker” Drew laughed and apologised “I just wanted to see if you were okay, after what happened to your friend.” An atmosphere fell onto the Crown and Horseshoe as Josh walked into the pub with his boss Andrea Yorke “You’ve got a nerve” Daniel snapped. “Daniel, leave it” Imogen pressed as Drew looked towards Molly and asked what was happened. “Is it normally this Eastenders around here?” Drew asked attempting to lighten the mood. Josh looked hesitantly at Andrea, but remained quiet. They walked towards the bar, as everyone stared at them in disbelief. “Mine’s a G&T, I’m just going to powder my nose” Andrea pursed her lips as she passed a disapproving Imogen. Josh sighed as his sister Vicki approached him angrily “I didn’t write the article” Josh blurted out before Vicki could say a word. “At least have the balls to own up to it” Imogen snapped. “A friend of Mia’s who remains unnamed had already been suspended from the local school for drug use and is thought to have been the cause of an accidental overdose of a minor…shall I carry on?” Vicki spat. “Vicki, I promise you, I didn’t write it” Josh promised, trying to ignore the dirty looks from Daniel and Imogen. “And I’m the Virgin Mary” Vicki slammed. “You always wanted the front page, well now you’ve got it Josh; the least you can do is own it.” You okay darling?” Kayla asked as she placed a cup of tea down on the kitchen table in front of Kyle. “She wasn’t taking drugs” Kyle confirmed as his mother Chrissie Campbell finished reading the article. “She’s not like Vicki, she’s not some drugged up skank” Kyle spat. “Less of the slander” Chrissie’s wife Jay Willis warned her stepson. “It’s only slander if it ain’t true and that druggie slut is a skank. It should be her in that hospital bed” Kyle slammed as Jay warned him to calm down. “People will talk Kyle, that’s the awful world we live in and people like Josh Connor feed off it” Chrissie said “Josh has always been a nice, caring fella. I don’t understand why he would write this. It’s Sophia I feel sorry for and Steven” Kayla sighed. As Kayla and Chrissie moved into the living room to go through plans for the café, Jay sat down with Kyle. “I went to see her you know” Kyle broke the silence. “How was she?” Jay asked. “I was terrified when I first walked into that room. I mean she was just lying there. She can’t move Jay, she can’t move” Kyle became tearful, Jay moved closer to Kyle and put her arm around him “This is my fault” Kyle admitted. “Don’t think like that Kyle, it was an accident” Jay tried to reassure him, but Kyle shook his head “You can call it an accident, but if I hadn’t been fighting with Luke over Vicki and what he has planned…” Kyle stopped and shook his head “Mia’s in hospital because of me” Kyle wiped his face and stood up abruptly “I need to go” He muttered “Kyle, wait” Jay asked “If you ever need to talk, about anything, you know where I am” Jay smiled supportively as she wiped the final tear from Kyle’s face.

Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, barman Tate watched with interest as Molly and Drew talked in the corner of the pub “He seems nice” Ava said as she sat at the bar. “Yeah, I guess. Molly needs someone like that in her life” Tate said softly. Megan was beaming as she walked back into the pub; husband Noah rushed towards her “I got an interview!” She squealed as she jumped into Noah’s arms. “Well done sweetheart” Daniel congratulated his daughter as she explained all about the event’s planning course she had found. Meanwhile, Ava noticed her father Cole approach the bar “Can I have your key Dad? Mine are at home somewhere” Ava asked. “Good news all round Aves, Megan’s got an interview for college and Noah’s got a job” Cole smiled. “Well done Megs” Ava smiled at her best friend before asking once again for Cole’s house key. Noah tried to hide his disappointment and focus on Megan’s good news as Cole pulled Ava aside “He’s trying to make amends” He defended, but Ava just nodded and took the key that Cole held out “Have you sorted things out with Olivia?” Cole called after Ava as she began to walk away “Not you as well. Just leave it Dad” Ava snapped and left the pub. Once outside, Ava leant against the wall and began to scratch aggressively at her upper arm. She closed her eyes as she let the pain take hold. “Something bitten you?” Ava opened her eyes to see Matthew Fitzgerald standing in front of her “You can say that, nothing I can handle though” Ava answered as she walked away from Matthew, unnerved by the chill going down her spine.

“Do you have any idea how many people you’ve hurt? How many people you’ve upset with those lies?” Josh stormed as he and Andrea arrived back at her office. “Josh, what you wrote sounded like an episode of the Waltons. I just wrote the truth, just warmed up a little” Andrea stated as Josh shook his head “Mia Faraday is just a little girl, a nice, friendly girl. And now you’ve soiled her reputation and got people thinking she’s this drugged up party girl” Josh lashed out disgusted “You make me sick” Josh stormed out of the office and rushed towards his car. He flicked through the radio stations on his way home, but slammed the off button in anger creating a silence in the car. He pulled into Canvey Crescent and tried to compose himself as he stood outside the Spencer house. “Hey!” Josh turned around to find Steven rushing towards him “Steven, I’m so sorr…” Josh began, but Steven punched him. “Steven” Sophia shouted as she raced from the front door, as Steven stepped backwards, Sophia dove forwards and furiously slapped Josh across the face “You spineless coward, you weak piece of crap. How dare you talk about my daughter like that” Sophia lashed out “Please Sophia, Steven. I didn’t write this, I wouldn’t” Josh promised, but Sophia pulled Steven back towards the house “This isn’t my fault” Josh maintained, Steven stopped and turned around “My little girl is laying in hospital, devastated that she can’t walk. She’ll never walk again, so save your tears. I wouldn’t want them to stain your front page” Steven spat and then walked away with Sophia; Josh slammed his fist into the car in frustration, shaking his head in frustration

3x8: 'Something tells me three's a crowd' | Written by Hannah | Episode Sixty Eight Olivia Fitzgerald yawned as she checked the time on her phone, it was five in the morning and daylight was beginning to break on Canvey Island. Olivia watched her husband Matthew as he lay next to her fast asleep. Olivia stared at the wedding ring on his finger, she sighed as she wondered whether there was any truth in her niece Ava Donovan’s claim that Matthew had been married before. She had spent weeks avoiding her family as she tried to put her doubts out of her mind, but Olivia couldn’t hide from her fears in her dreams. Meanwhile, across the sea at the secure unit in Portsmouth, Olivia’s sister Naomi was also wide awake. She could see the beach from her window, Naomi watched as the sun rose over the sea. She missed her home on Canvey Island and most of all she missed her husband Cole and their children Noah and Ava.

Josh Connor sat grumpily at the Spencer breakfast table, his partner Siobhan Spencer stood behind him and put her arms around his shoulders tenderly “It’s been a week Josh, I bet everyone’s forgotten about that bloody article” Siobhan tried to reassure her partner. “Somehow I don’t think Sophia and Steven have” Josh answered as Siobhan’s mother Katherine Lavery interrupted on her way out to work. “I can’t believe he gave that criminal a job, he knows how I feel about the boy” Katherine ranted as she looked for her purse. “What do you expect, he’s married to Megan” Siobhan replied. Katherine shook her head “It’s a joke, he held a gun to your head and now he walks around like he owns the place. The justice system gets worse by the day” Katherine complained “Will you stop?” Siobhan snapped as she winced in pain “Have you taken anything for that headache?” Katherine asked noticing Siobhan’s discomfort “I’m fine mum, you’d better get to work” Siobhan pressed “And so should you” She said to Josh.

At Canvey Island General Hospital, Sophia Faraday stood up abruptly as two doctors walked towards her “Mrs Faraday is your husband with you?” Sophia shook her head “He had a meeting with his solicitor” She explained. “Maybe we should do this another time” Dr Nina Richards spoke softly. “No, you can talk to me” Sophia pushed. Nina guided Sophia into her office “We’re getting ready to transfer Mia to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, they have a specialist spinal injury centre” Nina explained. “Can’t she stay here? Close to her family” Sophia asked her voice breaking. “We don’t have the resources she needs. This centre means Mia has access to a team of neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, spinal cord medicine specialists, Sophia the list is endless. Mia needs all the help and support she can get so that she can adapt to this new way of life. There are therapists and social workers that can help her and teach her the new skills she needs to rebuild her life” Sophia stood up and paced around the small office “Six months ago we were a normal family, how did we get like this?” Sophia questioned emotionally. “There’s help available for you and your husband as well Sophia, you don’t have to do this alone” Nina reassured Sophia.

Luke Campbell sat on the floor of his brother Harry’s flat; he looked at the pile of twenty pound notes with a strained look on his face “Planning to take me shopping?” His girlfriend Vicki Connor questioned as she walked in dressed in nothing but her underwear “Maybe then you’ll actually have some clothes to wear” Luke sneered as Vicki sat down on his lap “I don’t usually hear you complaining” Vicki teased and tried to kiss Luke, but he roughly pushed her away “What’s your problem?” Vicki asked in annoyance. Luke hesitated for a moment and then spoke slowly “I owe money Vic” Luke began “A lot of money and this lot barely covers it” Luke moaned. “Can you ask your brother?” Vicki asked. “Harry won’t give me a penny, he barely tolerates me staying here” Luke snapped. “I’m just trying to help” Vicki grunted as Luke’s face softened. He pulled Vicki back onto his lap and kissed her on the lips “There might be a way” He said suggestively, Vicki pulled back “I don’t understand, I don’t have any money you know that” Luke tried to pull Vicki close “But you have something else” He slowly kissed her neck “If you were to spend a bit of time with Oscar, I’m sure he would be more inclined to waver some of the money I owe him” Luke explained. Vicki stood up and glared at him “Spend time with him? And do what, talk about the latest episode of the Walking Dead? He’s ancient, what the hell would I talk to him about?” Vicki questioned. “Don’t be naïve Vic; you know exactly what I mean. Be nice to the man, the way you can be nice to me” Luke said as he stroked Vicki’s arm, she hit his hand away from her angrily “You’re disgusting” Vicki spat and stormed towards the bedroom.

Olivia bit her fingernails as she stood in her husband Matthew’s home office; he had left for work over an hour ago. Olivia had battled with herself over what she was about to do, taking a deep breath Olivia stepped forwards and began opening the desk drawers and looking through Matthew’s paperwork. Meanwhile, at the secure unit, Naomi was sat with her daughter Ava “Do you think she believed you?” Naomi questioned as Ava had explained she had told Olivia the truth about Matthew’s first marriage. “I don’t know, you know how stubborn Olivia is” Ava replied. “You have to try again Aves, this is my only chance” Naomi pleaded. Ava reached forwards and held onto her mother’s hand “You’re going to get out of here Mum, I promise.” Ava reassured Naomi.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Duncan Faraday was sat with Katherine as they waited for their lunch to arrive “Sophia called this morning, they want to move Mia to a specialist centre” Duncan explained to Katherine. “Well that’s good Duncan, maybe with some rehab Mia will…” Katherine began but Duncan cut her off “It won’t help Mia walk, but it will help her learn to adapt” Duncan said sadly. Katherine reached across the table and held Duncan’s hand. Meanwhile, Eileen Fields arrived and approached the bar “Can I have a gin and tonic please?” Eileen asked barman Tate Yorke. “Sure, want me to bring it over?” Tate asked nodding his head in the direction of Duncan’s table. Eileen’s lips twisted as she noticed Duncan and Katherine “Something tells me three’s a crowd” Eileen said coldly and took her drink over to an isolated table in the corner of the pubSophia stood at the window of Mia’s hospital room as her daughter slept as she turned around, she noticed that Mia was now awake “How are you feeling sweetheart?” Sophia asked as she stroked Mia’s hair “Nothing” Mia muttered “I feel absolutely nothing” Mia whispered sadly. Sophia sat down as she explained to Mia about the centre they were planning to move her to. “What’s the point Mum?” Mia let a tear escape “I don’t want to go, what are they gonna do? Are they gonna help me walk?” Mia questioned, but Sophia didn’t know what to say. She struggled to contain her own emotion “They’re going to help you learn to adapt” Sophia tried to explain. “Adapt to what? Living in a wheelchair, I might as well be dead” Mia spat bitterly. “No, don’t you dare say that” Sophia pleaded emotionally “Don’t you ever say that Mia, you will still have a life, maybe it will be very different. But I promise you Mia, one day you will be able to smile again” Sophia softly began to cry “I promise sweetheart” She said as she heard the door open. Her estranged husband Steven Faraday stood with a lump in his throat as he noticed both Sophia and Mia’s tears. He rushed forward and held onto both Sophia and Mia’s hands “I’m here” He whispered repeatedly.

Olivia sat on the floor of Matthew’s office surrounded by paperwork; she held a contract closer as she read it carefully. She jumped as she heard the sound of the front door; she closed the office door carefully as she took a deep breath. She sighed as she found her niece Ava on the doorstep “Please can I talk to you?” Ava asked. Olivia nodded and let Ava in, she guided Ava to the office where Ava gasped at the sight of the office. “You believe me don’t you?” Ava observed. “I’m not making any promises Ava, but I found this” Olivia held out the contract for Ava to read. “It’s an invoice for a plot at a cemetery” Ava said “Taunton’s not far, we could be there in an hour” Ava pressed as Olivia hesitated. “I trust my husband” Olivia whispered. “I know you want to believe in him Liv, but you know in your heart that something’s not right, it’s time you started following your instincts.”
*
Vicki walked along Canvey High Street where she bumped into her brother Josh, he was startled as he took in the dark circles underneath Vicki’s eyes and noticed she looked a lot thinner than the last time he saw her “Vicki, you should come home” Josh pressed “We’re still your family” He reassured his younger sister. “It’s not the same, I’m not your real sister” She said sadly. Josh shook his head “Sister, half-sister, it’s all the same Vic, I’m always going to be your big brother whatever trouble you get into” Josh promised. “I’m okay Josh” She lied and said goodbye to him. As she walked she noticed a figure stumbling towards her “Luke” She squealed and rushed towards him “Who did this to you?” Vicki begged as she took in Luke’s cuts and bruises. “Who do you think?” He spat. “They’re gonna kill me Vic” Luke winced in pain “Okay, okay, I’ll do it” Vicki agreed as Luke pulled her into a hug, a manipulative smile on his face.

At a cemetery in Taunton, Olivia and Ava walked among the grave stones in an awkward silence; finally they found what they were looking for. Olivia stood breathless as she took in the three names on the grave – Grace, Amy and Sophie Fitzgerald. Olivia fell to her knees and lightly touched Grace’s name. “She’s dead” Olivia whispered. “Matthew’s wife is dead” Ava knelt down next to Olivia “That’s the year mum and Matthew broke up” She observed “Amy and Sophie, they were just children” Ava said sadly. “Why would he keep this a secret? He lost his whole family” Olivia questioned. “He blames Mum” Ava realised and pulled Olivia’s arms so that she was facing her “Don’t you see it Liv, this is why he’s been doing all this. Everything that has happened since Matthew arrived on Canvey Island has been part of his plan to hurt mum, this is revenge.” Ava concluded.

Eileen stood on the doorstep of the Faraday house; finally Duncan opened the door “You managed to lose your shadow then?” Eileen snapped referring to Katherine and explained how she witnessed a close moment between the friends earlier that day. “I’m not doing this right now Eileen” Duncan sighed as he walked into his living room. Eileen softened as she saw the look of defeat on Duncan’s face “Duncan” She whispered “I want to help you, but you have to let me in” Eileen pleaded as she took Duncan’s hands. “I…I can’t talk to you about all this Eileen” Duncan admitted “But you can talk to Katherine, what is it about that woman?” Eileen questioned. “Not this again” Duncan sighed. “I can’t do this anymore” He said. “You’re right, let’s stop fighting…” Eileen began “No I mean us, I can’t do it anymore Eileen. I care about you, I really do, but this isn’t working between us” Duncan tried to explain, for a moment Eileen stood numb to the spot, but soon pulled herself together “Right” She murmured “Then I guess we have nothing else left to say” She said coldly as Duncan tried to suggest that they could be friends, Eileen rushed out of the Faraday house and as soon as she made it out of Canvey Crescent, Eileen burst into tears.

A montage began as Olivia sat awkwardly at the dinner table with Matthew; she froze awkwardly as he reached across the table and held onto her hand. At the hospital, Steven and Sophia sat either side of Mia as they watched Disney’s Frozen, taking Mia back to her childhood spent watching Disney films with her parents, without them noticing, a tear escaped from Mia’s eye as she realised her life would never really be the same. Meanwhile, Eileen arrived home to an empty flat; she walked straight over to the table and poured herself a whisky, while Katherine and Siobhan sat together on the sofa at the Spencer house, Katherine advising Siobhan to see a doctor about her constant headaches. Finally, Vicki sat on her bed, shaking as she heard Oscar Fallon walk into the bedroom. She closed her eyes tightly as she heard him undo his belt buckle

3x11: 'It's saying something when the wheelie bin's been out more times than we have' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Sixty Nine It was early morning as Vicki Connor sat on the floor of the shower letting the hot water run over her body, her arms and her legs were red raw where she had scrubbed her body to try and feel clean again, but she could still feel his scent all over her. Vicki closed her eyes in disgust as she thought about how she let the leach of a man touch her; she remembered how she had to bite down on her own lip to stop herself from screaming. She felt physically sick as she thought about what she made herself do to pay off the debts of her boyfriend Luke Campbell. Outside the bathroom door, Luke’s brother Harry stood listening to the running water “You alright Vicki?” He called loudly; from inside Vicki felt a lump rise in her throat before she finally found her voice “I’m fine” She croaked.

At the Field’s flat, David Fields and his mother Eileen nervously awaited the arrival of social worker Gabby Yates, who had arranged to visit both the Fields and Steven Faraday in regards to the custody of Alfie. “Stop fussing Ma” David snapped as Eileen attempted to straighten his tie, however Eileen ignored David and carried on “I said stop” David ordered as he pushed Eileen away roughly causing her to hit her side on the corner of the kitchen counter. “I know how hard today is going to be for you David, but I’m only trying to help” Eileen said. “Did I ask for your help? You’re interfering again, just like you always do” David snapped once again. Eileen shook her head as David opened up the fridge and pulled out a can of beer. “No, not today David” Eileen barked and tried to take the can. “Today is too important” Eileen warned. “I need to calm my nerves” David said as he showed Eileen his shaking hand. “Please David, if not for me then for Alfie, today he needs his Da.” Eileen pressed as the doorbell rang.

Outside a beautiful white house in Taunton, Olivia Fitzgerald stood with her niece Ava Donovan “I can’t believe we’re doing this” Olivia complained. “Has Matthew ever talked about his mother?” Ava asked. Olivia shook her head “I asked about her once, he told me that she died” Olivia admitted. “I feel like I don’t even know who I married” Olivia said sadly. “He fooled everyone Liv” Ava replied supportively. “I thought after everything I went through with Tom I would be able to tell when I was being played, turns out I haven’t learnt a thing” Olivia spat bitterly “Do you want me to take you home?” Ava asked. Olivia shook her head “No, I have to do this. I have to know the whole truth about Matthew” Olivia took a deep breath as she and Ava began to walk towards the house. Meanwhile, back on Canvey Island, Tate Yorke handed his boyfriend Anthony Spencer a sandwich as he sat distracted in Tate’s dining room. “What’s with the long face?” Tate asked, but Anthony just shrugged and muttered that he was fine. “Anthony babes, please don’t close yourself off, I want to help” Tate whispered. Anthony stood up and told Tate that he needed the fresh air. Outside, Anthony stared out at the immaculate garden “I can’t stop thinking about Mia” Anthony admitted “That night just keeps going around and around in my head, I feel guilty, I should have done something” Anthony confided as Tate stood in front of him “I love you Anthony, but have you heard yourself. Your guilt, this isn’t about you. This guilt you’re feeling, it won’t match the fear that Mia is going through. You need to be there for Mia, not to make yourself feel better, but because she’s your best friend.” Tate said softly “Mia needs you now, so stop thinking about what happened that night and start thinking about Mia, be there for her with no expectations” Tate smiled supportively as he kissed Anthony. Anthony smiled back “Can you give me a lift to the station?” He asked, feeling more confidence and determined.
*
David and Eileen sat in the living room with social worker Gabby Yates, their conversation was interrupted by the sound of Alfie’s cries from the nursery “I’ll go” Eileen smiled as she stood up and left the room. “Mr Fields, David…is it okay if I call you David?” Gabby asked “You can call me anything you like as long as it’s not early in the morning” David joked dryly, but it failed to get a smile from Gabby. “David, I’m not here to catch you out, I’m just here to determine where the best place for Alfie to live is” Gabby explained. “With me of course” David barked. “I’m sure you believe that, but I need to be the judge of that” Gabby continued. “Look, I love that boy with every beat of my heart, he may not be mine biologically, but he is my son in every other way and I’m his Da” David said passionately as Eileen stood by the door. She smiled before entering the living room again. “Alfie’s all settled once again” Eileen said as she sat back down. “How have you both been coping since Michelle’s passing?” Gabby asked. “Oh well it’s saying something when the wheelie bin’s been out more times than we have” Eileen joked as Gabby turned towards David and asked the question once again. “Michelle was my world…” David began “I adored Michelle and it tears me apart to know that she’s not coming back, but I promised her that I will always love and care for Alfie, he is my son and I won’t lose him.” David determined.

Olivia gripped her cup of tea a lot harder than she realised as she sat opposite her mother in law Val Fitzgerald, she found herself staring at the photograph hanging on the wall, a photograph of her husband Matthew with his family that Olivia never knew he had. “Matthew was devastated when he lost Grace and the girls” Val explained to Olivia and Ava. “And the baby” Val added. Olivia couldn’t help but gasp “Baby?” She asked. “Grace was heavily pregnant when she died, it would have been a boy” Val said sadly “Matthew always wanted a boy of his own” Olivia felt a lump in her throat “When did you last speak to Matthew?” She asked. Val stared at Olivia sadly “He wouldn’t leave the house for months when Grace died, I didn’t think he’d ever get through it then he started going back to work and I thought he was dealing with his grief, but then one day he just disappeared” Val paused “I haven’t seen my son for the best part of twelve years” Val explained as she reached across and touched Olivia’s arm “I had no idea he remarried, you’re very beautiful” She smiled as Olivia blushed. “Thank you” She whispered. Olivia looked at Ava pleadingly who then stood up “We have to get back” Ava said as Olivia followed. “Please come back and see me again” Val pleaded, grabbing hold of Olivia’s hands. Once outside, Olivia struggled to contain her emotions as Ava tried to calm her down “He’s lied about everything” Olivia said breathlessly rushing back towards her carAt the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan Donovan was sat at a table with her grandfather Duncan Faraday and his friend Katherine Lavery, they were discussing the upcoming Summer Garden Party that the pub was hosting to raise money for the spinal unit Megan’s cousin Mia had just moved to. “You’re quite the organiser Megs” Duncan complimented as he looked through the arrangements Megan had already made “Let’s hope I can make a career out of it” Megan said hopefully. “Well this party’s shaping up nicely so far. I spoke to Kayla and she and Chrissie are keen to run the tea and cakes stand” Katherine explained. Meanwhile over at the bar, barmaid Chloe Charles was stood talking to her boyfriend Harry “She looks terrible” Chloe commented as Harry’s brother Luke walked in with Vicki “Is she okay?” Chloe questioned. Harry shrugged “I think they must have had a row or something. They’ll get over it, Luke always manages to talk his way out of trouble” Harry spat. “You’re not really your brother’s biggest fan are you?” Chloe said detecting Harry’s bitterness in his voice “We’re just very different” He admitted “Chalk and cheese…opposite sides of the law” Harry hinted, but soon changed the subject. “I wish you’d put a smile on your face” Luke whispered to Vicki harshly “You make it look like I took a leak in your cornflakes” Luke sniggered but got annoyed when Vicki still didn’t smile. “You did the right thing Vic, look at what they did to me…they probably would’ve killed me given the chance” Luke pressed as Vicki looked alarmed at that possibility “I love you Vic” Luke whispered as he kissed Vicki on the forehead.
*
Anthony took a deep breath as he stood outside the spinal unit in Portsmouth “Mia” Anthony whispered as he walked in to visit his best friend Mia Faraday “Anthony” Mia smiled “I would get up but…” She said brightly, but Anthony felt awkward “It was a joke” Mia muttered “You know what they say, sometimes it’s better to laugh than cry and I’ve done enough crying” Mia sighed as Anthony struggled to take in the sight of Mia lying in the bed “I have my first rehab session tomorrow” Mia admitted as she begun to tear up “So much for enough crying” She tried to laugh as Anthony took a seat next to her bed. “I don’t want to be here Anthony” She cried “I don’t understand why this has happened, why me?” Anthony held onto Mia’s hand “You have to stop this, right now, you hear me” Anthony said strongly “You’re the strongest, funniest and kindest person I know. If anyone can get through this and come back stronger than before, it’s you and I’m going to be there every step of the way, right by your side” Anthony promised as Mia smiled and thanked him “Now who’s for a game of Wii dance?” Anthony and Mia both laughed.
*
Steven Faraday handed Gabby a cup of tea and invited her to sit down at the table “I can care for Alfie; I have the support of my extended family, my dad and my sister Lindsay. I have a good job, a steady income and a roof over my head. I’m fully prepared to bring up my son” Steven said confidently as Gabby made notes. “When Alfie was born I thought I was doing what was best, letting Michelle and David bring him up, but Michelle’s death has changed everything. It’s made me see that I want my son with me, he belongs with me” Steven said. “And the breakdown of your marriage to Sophia and your daughter’s recent accident, these events will surely impact on your ability to care for Alfie?” Gabby asked as Steven’s face fell.

At the secure unit, Naomi Donovan sat up abruptly as her daughter Ava led Olivia into the room. For the first time since Olivia’s wedding day, Naomi and her younger sister came face to face. Walking slowly towards Naomi, Olivia’s face twisted and she finally broke down. Naomi guided Olivia to her bed and sat down holding her sister “It’s okay Liv, I’m here” Naomi whispered as Ava sat down on the other side of Olivia. Naomi pulled Ava into the hug “It will be okay, I promise” Naomi said. “How can it be?” Olivia cried “Has this all been a game from the start? He made me fall in love with him to get to you” Olivia sat up tearfully “I’m so sorry Liv, Grace leaving must have really messed him up” Naomi said. Olivia shook her head “She didn’t leave him Naomi, she died” Olivia explained “They all died in a car accident” Ava added. Naomi gasped and sat back “Oh my God” She whispered. “What are we going to do?” Ava asked. Naomi looked towards Olivia “I don’t know, all I know is that I need to get as far away from Matthew as possible” Olivia said sternly

3x12: 'I've just upgraded to Jerry Springer' (45-minute episode) | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Seventy There was glorious sunshine as Canvey Island was alive buzzing with the sound of Megan Donovan barking orders through a megaphone as the community all pitched in to help with the preparations for the summer garden party in aid of raising money for the spinal injury unit where Megan’s cousin Mia Faraday was staying. “Hey, watch it” Megan shouted as her husband Noah and father Daniel Hastings moved a table outside into the back garden of the Crown and Horseshoe pub. “You nearly knocked over my chocolate fountain” Megan complained as she guided them to where she wanted the table. “It’s looking pretty great so far” Barmaid Chloe Charles smiled as colleague Tate Yorke arrived for work. “Yeah, Megan’s done a wonderful job so far” Tate agreed. Meanwhile, across the street Katherine Lavery was walking across the road towards the pub carrying a box of homemade cupcakes, she stopped abruptly as she noticed Eileen Fields also heading to the pub, wearing the same floral dress as her. Both women grumpily entered the pub “Where shall I put my delicious homemade scones?” Eileen asked “You’ve got to be joking me” Duncan Faraday gasped as he noticed Katherine and Eileen both stood with one hand on their hip “Someone get Gok Wan and fast” Megan joked over the megaphone.
*
Sophia Faraday held up two similar t-shirts in front of her daughter Mia “Okay darling, the red or the pink one?” Sophia asked. Mia was sat upright in her wheelchair as she prepared for her first physiotherapy session, Mia managed a small shrug. “Come on darling, I’ve always liked this colour on you” Sophia said, trying to sound enthusiastic. “What difference does the colour of my top make, it’s hardly going to help me walk again” Mia groaned as Sophia turned away, pretending to look through Mia’s bag, she took a deep breath as she tried to hold back her tears so she could be strong for her daughter. Mia sensed Sophia’s hurt and calls out to her mother. “I’m scared Mum” Mia confessed. Sophia’s face fell and she immediately put her arms around her daughter “It’s going to be okay, I promise.” They were interrupted by a knock at the door. “Morning” Sahira Jakra said as she introduced herself as Mia’s Physio “We’ve got some work to do” Sahira smiled sternly.

The beer garden at the back of the Crown and Horseshoe was packed as the summer garden party got into full swing, Landlady Lindsay Faraday was stood with her former husband Daniel as he got the barbeque started, while Daniel’s girlfriend Imogen Sandford placed a jug full of Pimms on the table for Heather and Michael Connor, exchanging a glare with Heather “Can I try?” Their twelve year old son Jake asked cheekily. Meanwhile, Eileen and Katherine stood at opposing bakery tables “And they go lovely with cream and jam” Eileen smiled as she handed two plates to twins Molly and Kyle Campbell. “Cupcakes” Katherine shouted embarrassing her granddaughter Emily Spencer as she tried to raise her voice over Eileen’s “Delicious, a treat for all the family, young and old” Eileen threw Katherine a dirty look as Duncan was forced to play peacemaker between the two women. “You really don’t mind?” Kayla Macey asked Megan gratefully. “Of course not, might as well take advantage of the whole island being here” Megan laughed as Kayla thanked her and turned towards her business partner Chrissie Campbell and gave her the green light to hand out leaflets detailing the opening of their café in a few weeks’ time. “Thumbs up, thunderbirds are go” Kyle joked as he stuffed his scone into his mouth and took a pile of leaflets from Kayla. “It’s really happening then” Chrissie’s oldest son Harry commented. “My own business, who would’ve thought?” Chrissie smiled. “I’m proud of you Mum” Harry said softly. He caught the eye of his girlfriend Chloe as she took over a tray of drinks to Cole Donovan who was sat talking to son Noah, he winked with a smile. “I hate to break it to you Chlo, but Harry winked at me” Tate teased as Chloe playfully hit him on the arm.
*
Olivia Fitzgerald felt sick as her husband Matthew held onto her hand as they arrived at the summer garden party, they took in the packed venue and watched in amusement as Megan ordered everyone around “Naomi would have loved this” Olivia blurted out without thinking “If she wasn’t stuck in that unit” She added coldy. Matthew looked at Olivia and kissed her on the cheek “Naomi is getting the help she needs” He said and then placed his hand on Olivia’s back, she visibly flinched which didn’t go unnoticed by her niece Ava Donovan who walked over to join them. “You’ve got to keep it together” Ava whispered as Matthew was distracted by Eileen “Now you look like a man who could do with a good hot…” Eileen smiled as Matthew held up his left hand “I’m married I’m afraid” Matthew joked. “Scone” Eileen finished her sentence; Matthew laughed when suddenly Katherine grabbed him by the arm and encouraged him to buy a cup cake from her stall. “I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up Ava; we’ve got nothing on him. We have no evidence of any of the things he’s done, it’s all theory that we can’t prove.” Olivia confided. As Olivia and Ava continued whispering, Duncan stood up on the stage and called for everyone’s attention. However, he got irritated as the community continued to talk amongst themselves. “Oi, shut it” Megan shouted through her megaphone “My Grandad has a few words” Megan turned and smiled at Duncan. “That megaphone is going to her head” Tate whispered as Chloe and Harry laughed in agreement. “Firstly, I would like to thank you all for coming today and supporting the family. These past few months have been the worst and it’s humbling to see how much my granddaughter Mia is loved and cared for by all of you. We are so very grateful and so will the Portsmouth Regional Spinal Unit when they see your precious donations.” Duncan concluded as the community broke into applause.
*
Siobhan Spencer could hear the laughter echoing from the Crown and Horseshoe as she walked alone towards the beach. If she listened carefully, she could hear Megan’s speech as she spoke passionately about her cousin Mia “They say your cousin is the first friend you make in the world, and they’re right, Mia was my best friend growing up and she still is. She didn’t deserve what has happened to her, but we can help make her life that much easier, so please donate as much as you can” Megan’s voice trailed off as Siobhan was now sat in the doctor’s surgery waiting alone. Seconds which felt like hours passed when finally the doctor opened his door and asked Siobhan to step inside. Siobhan sat down on the chair; she twitched her hands and then rubbed them together. Dr Ravi Malik softly asked if Siobhan was worried about her PTSD reoccurring in wake of the armed robbery trial a few months previous. Siobhan shook her head and said “No.” Dr Malik listened carefully as Siobhan explained her symptoms “I’ve been having a lot of dizzy spells, my sight and my hearing is quite distorted” Siobhan paused “This is really embarrassing, but it can be quite uncomfortable when I…when me and my partner…are together” Siobhan tried to explain. As Dr Malik finished his notes, he looked at Siobhan and spoke softly “I’m going to refer you to the hospital Siobhan. I think we may need to do an MRI scan” Dr Malik noticed the look of panic and fear on Siobhan’s face “I know this sounds scary, but this is for the best. We need to find out what’s wrong and eliminate what isn’t.”
“You look like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders” Noah’s comment forced his aunt Olivia out of her daydream. “Something like that” She smiled softly and excused herself. Over at the coconut shy, Molly laughed as Drew Lomax missed the last coconut. “You were right, I’m in awe of your talents” She teased playfully “It’s fixed” Drew defended humorously. “Come on, I’ll let you buy me a chocolate éclair.” Molly’s older brother Harry was watching the pair closely as his girlfriend Chloe handed him a hot dog from the barbeque “They make a cute couple” Chloe commented. Harry raised an eyebrow “You think?” He questioned and then shrugged “There’s something about him, I don’t trust him” Harry admitted. “You’re her big brother, you’d say that about any guy” Chloe teased “There’s Olivia, I’m gonna force her to sing Spice Girls with me on the karaoke” Chloe laughed as she bounced over to the bench where Olivia was sitting. As soon as she reached Olivia, she could tell something was wrong by the distracted look on her best friend’s face. “What’s he done?” Chloe asked as Olivia looked at her in confusion. “Matthew, he must have done something” Chloe determined “It’s all such a mess Chlo” Olivia sighed trying desperately not to let her emotion get the better of her. “Oh Liv” Chloe moved over and put her arm around Olivia. “You can talk to me, you know I love complicated” Chloe joked causing Olivia to smile weakly “I think my life has become Jeremy Kyle worthy…actually that’s a lie, it already was Jeremy worthy, I’ve just upgraded to Jerry Springer” Olivia looked over to where her husband Matthew was stood talking to her brother-in-law Cole. “Matthew isn’t the man I thought he was” Olivia admitted. “Did he cheat?” Chloe asked. Olivia shook her head, but as she was about to speak, the sound of Chloe’s name interrupted her. Chloe stood up, surprised to see Nicki Grant walking towards her. She hadn’t seen Nicki since the day of their court case which saw their attacker Derek Williams sentenced to eight years in prison. “Nicki, what are you doing here?” Chloe asked. “I thought we could do with a catch up” Nicki explained. Remembering how upset Olivia was, Chloe turned around quickly, but Olivia had disappeared.
*
Siobhan was sat in her car listening to the radio, lost in her thoughts Siobhan faded as the music turned to silence. She slowly walked towards a headstone and she smiled softly as she reached the grave of her husband Robert Spencer. “Hello Bobby” Siobhan whispered as she sat down on the ground. As she began to tidy his grave, Siobhan looked at the photograph of Robert on his headstone. “I miss you so much” Siobhan became teary “You have no idea how much I wish you were here” Siobhan apologised for not visiting in a while and then talked about her step-son Anthony and how his relationship with Tate was becoming stronger by the day “And Emily is getting really good at her ballet, passing her exams with flying colours” Siobhan smiled “And Mum’s still hung up on Duncan Faraday, no change there.” Siobhan paused as she then began to talk about herself. “And me, well…I’ve got to have some tests” She stopped and took a deep breath “I’m so frightened, I need you, I need you to help, please help me” Siobhan pleaded emotionally.
*
Stood outside the Connor and Fitzgerald office, Olivia stared at the set of keys she had taken from Matthew’s coat pocket. Taking a deep breath, Olivia let herself into her husband’s office. She froze as she stared at the compulsively tidy office; she had absolutely no idea what she was looking for. After twenty minutes, Olivia had come across some personal papers of Matthew’s; she froze as she noticed her own name on one of the documents. Olivia read and re-read the document; it was a contract for a small flat in Portsmouth. Noting down the address, Olivia made sure the office looked just as it did when she arrived and she soon disappeared.
*
Mia was sat in the corner of the community lounge at the spinal unit as her parents Sophia and Steven Faraday joined her “The summer party is going really well, I popped in before I came over” Steven smiled as Mia just nodded “Although your Grandad’s had to hide the megaphone from Megan” Steven laughed. “She’s driving everyone mad” Sophia added “I heard her on it this morning; she’s like a kid at Christmas.” Mia tried to smile “Maybe you should go and catch the end of the party” Mia hinted. Both Steven and Sophia told Mia that they were happy to stay with her for a little while longer; however Mia insisted she would be fine. After Steven and Sophia had left, Mia shook her head in anger and tried to move her toes, when she failed she began to hit her legs aggressively. From across the room, a young man in a wheelchair watched from afar.
At the summer garden party, Chloe was relieved to finally get her break. She sat down with Nicki and poured her a glass of Pimms. “I feel like I interrupted” Nicki admitted, referring to Olivia. “I’ll call Liv tomorrow and check on her” Chloe replied “So are you gonna tell me the real reason you’re here” Chloe pressed as Nicki admitted defeat “I had nowhere else to go Chlo, I got fired from the bar” Nicki explained. “Why?” Chloe asked. Nicki shrugged “I may have thrown a punch at a punter” Nicki said carefully “He was trying to touch me up” Nicki defended “I won’t let it happen again Chlo, I promised myself that I would always fight back” Nicki said passionately “I can understand Nic, I know exactly how you feel” Chloe sighed. “I figured now was as good a time as any for a fresh start, actually that’s kind of why I’m here…I was wondering if your spare room was still free?” Nicki asked. Meanwhile, Anthony Spencer was sat with his younger sister Emily “You really like him don’t you?” Emily asked as she looked towards Tate. Anthony smiled and nodded “How do you know when you really like someone?” Emily broached. Anthony shrugged “You just know, someone inside you feel these butterflies and he’s all you can think about” Anthony smiled wistfully and then looked at his sister “But you’re way too young to be thinking about boys” Anthony teased.
*
“You quite finished” Alex Ellison asked as Mia looked up to see Alex sitting beside her in his own wheelchair. Mia told Alex that she wanted to be left alone. “I did it too you know, I hated my legs. I used to beat and punch them” Alex confided. “It’s none of your business what I do” Mia replied. “Beat and punch them, curse them because they abandoned me, they let me down. They stopped working, not me” Alex said emotionally. “And it felt good” Mia turned towards Alex “But that feeling faded. Anyway, I’m Alex” Alex held out his hand to Mia “I’m new” Mia answered. “Well hello new, nice to meet you” Alex teased. Mia couldn’t help but giggle “I’m Mia” She said finally as she began to open up to Alex about her first physio session and how it didn’t go as well as she’d hoped. “Who did you get? Ready to Rumble Rosie or Psycho Sahira?” Alex asked with a smile. “Sahira” Mia responded “Oh, she gonna work you good girl” Alex laughed as he began an impression of Sahira, making Mia giggle.
*
Once again Olivia stared at the keys that belonged to Matthew. She identified the key to the flat the couple shared, Matthew’s car key, his office key, the key to Kane Creations and one unfamiliar key that Olivia had never noticed before. Olivia felt sick as she attempted to fit the key into the front door of the flat in Portsmouth, the flat she technically owned. Olivia felt a chill run down her spine as she walked slowly through the hallway into the living room. She hesitantly walked through the door and gasped by what she found. Olivia was stunned to find every inch of the room covered in photographs and newspaper articles all with one common theme – the Donovan family. Stepping closer, Olivia was shaken to see photographs of Naomi and Olivia from the past few years, Noah and Ava, even photographs of Naomi, Olivia and Cole on the day Cole was released from prison. “I think I’m gonna be sick” Olivia whispered to herself. Walking slowly to a box full of files, Olivia was unnerved to see her name on the front of one of the folders. She opened it to find copies of her birth certificate, driving licence, bank statements and even a criminal record check. Suddenly, photographs fell out of the folder with another document; Olivia was shaking as she bent down to pick them up. She gasped as she found photographs of her and her former fiancé Tom Kingston and a copy of the police statement she made against him detailing how he conned her out of her entire life savings and her business. Taking out her phone, Olivia took several photographs of the room and tried to fit as many of the files into her bag. Rushing to the door, Olivia was stopped in her tracks as she came face to face with the man she never truly knew.

A montage began as Megan and Noah danced as the sun began to set on Canvey Island. As Noah swung Megan around, Emily and Jake swiped the megaphone. They laughed as they run up behind Megan and made her jump, Megan chased the youngsters as Heather and Michael kissed lovingly. Imogen slid up behind Daniel and kissed him on the neck “Today went well” Daniel commented as Imogen agreed. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking…” Daniel began “I think we should live together” Daniel blurted out. As Eileen began to clean up her table, Katherine walked towards her with a cupcake held in her opened hand. Eileen smiled “Fancy a cuppa?” Eileen asked. “I thought you’d never ask” Katherine answered as they walked towards the tea and coffee stand; they soon began bickering over who had raised the most money for Mia’s unit. The scene then faded into the hospital as Siobhan lay down, from another room, Siobhan can hear a voice explaining that the MRI scan will begin in a moment. As the machine fired up, Siobhan flinched as the noise became louder and louder. Fighting her tears, Siobhan began to pray. The scene then faded to the Spinal Unit where Mia was finally smiling as she talked to Alex. Finally the scene changed again as Olivia faced Matthew.

Olivia and Matthew were stood opposite each other, neither had broken the silence. Olivia jumped as Matthew moved suddenly. Shaken by Olivia’s fear, Matthew spoke softly “I would never hurt you Olivia” He moved closer, but Olivia moved away. “I think it’s a little too late for that don’t you think” Olivia spat angrily, once again Matthew tried to move towards his wife, but this time Olivia slapped him as hard as she could “What was this? Some sort of sick twisted game? Did you get some kind of thrill out of it?” Olivia spat “Terrorising my sister then coming home to my bed. It’s over Matthew, I know everything, I know about Grace. And Amy and Sophie. I know they all died” Olivia said as Matthew’s face twisted up in pain. “All of this, stalking my sister and her family because she dumped you. It’s pathetic Matthew” Olivia snapped as Matthew lashed out, violently pinning her to the wall “I lost my whole family” Matthew shouted as Olivia struggled against his hold. “You were the one who was married, you lied to Naomi and let her fall in love with you, but I guess that’s become quite a habit of yours” Olivia said bitterly. “Grace left me because of your sister, that’s why she died. That’s why my children died” Matthew let go of his hold on Olivia. “Was any of it real?” Olivia questioned emotionally as Matthew hesitated “Oh my God” Olivia cried “After everything I went through with Tom and I let you in, I was scared but I believed you when you promised that you loved me and would never ever hurt me. I don’t even know who you are” Olivia paced the room “You’ve been following my sister, me, our entire family for years. You’re responsible for everything that’s happened to us, how could you? All this…” Olivia shouted pointing to the photographs on the wall “It’s sick, it’s psychotic…” Olivia ran to the wall and began ripping the photographs and newspaper articles from the wall, she threw the files and the folders off the tables to the ground as Matthew tried to grab her wrists to stop her “Don’t touch me! Don’t you ever touch me ever again!” Olivia ordered as she pushed Matthew away “I have to get away, I have to get away from you” Olivia rushed to the door, but Matthew was too fast for her “I’m sorry Liv; I can’t let you do that.”

3x13: 'You'd need to have a heart to hurt' | Written by Joe | Episode Seventy One A deathly silence fell on the room inside Matthew Fitzgerald’s flat in Portsmouth, there had been an obvious struggle, the room was a complete mess. Furniture was overturned; photographs and files had been thrown and ripped apart. Walking back into the eerily silent room, Matthew Fitzgerald was drying his hands; he threw the blood stained towel into a black bin bag and walked towards the shelf. A calm Matthew sighed as he turned on some music, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony began to play as he started to clean the room, he analysed every aspect of the room to make sure nothing was left blood stained or dirty. Matthew was stood frozen to the spot for a moment listening to the soothing sound of the music when he noticed a photograph on the floor, a photograph of him and his wife Olivia on their wedding day. Matthew picked up the photograph and ran his fingers along Olivia’s face, his expression hardened as he crushed the photograph with one hand. He carefully placed his black leather gloves back on his hands and finished picking up the scraps of paper from the floor and placed them in the bin bag. As he walked towards the door, Matthew switched off the music and silence once again fell over the room. Matthew turned to his left and found his former fiancée Naomi Donovan’s face staring back at him “Not long now” Matthew sinisterly said to the photograph. Picking up the remaining photographs from the floor, he took one last look at the room which was now spotless and walked out locking the door behind him.
Four days later
As she made her way out of the Fields’ house, Eileen Fields was singing to her grandson Alfie “Were you going to knock twice?” Eileen attempted to flirt with the postman “Why? You hard of hearing?” He shot back in response. Eileen laughed as she took the letter he held out towards her. Eileen skimmed through the bills until her eyes landed on an official looking envelope, her eyes widened as she then rushed back into the house.

On Canvey High Street, a tired looking Steven Faraday smiled as he bumped into his father Duncan who was walking with his friend Katherine Lavery and her daughter Siobhan Spencer. “Morning” Steven greeted as the conversation soon led towards the recovery of Steven’s daughter Mia, who had suffered from a spinal injury “Your father was telling me that Mia is doing really well” Katherine smiled. Steven nodded “Sahira says Mia’s been working really hard” Steven explained “You and Sophia must be pleased” Katherine said politely, but soon realised her mistake in making it sound as though Steven and Sophia were still a couple “I’m really proud, Mia’s coping a lot better than I would have done” Steven admitted “She’s a real inspiration, isn’t she Siobhan?” Katherine said as she nudged Siobhan who was staring into the distance “Have you heard anything from the court yet?” Duncan asked Steven “Hopefully we’ll get a date soon” Steven replied. “He should be with you, you’re his father” Katherine said “Don’t you agree Siobhan?” Katherine once again nudged Siobhan “I don’t think it’s any of our business and at the end of the day, Michelle chose David, there was nothing biological about that” Siobhan snapped before walking away.

“My wife has been missing for over four days now, your best just isn’t good enough” Matthew shouted as he slammed his phone down onto the kitchen counter. Chloe Charles, the best friend of Matthew’s wife Olivia supportively put her arm around Matthew. “Are you sure you and Liv didn’t have a row?” Chloe questioned “Liv was behaving really strangely at the garden party” Chloe explained. Matthew looked offended “As far as I knew, everything was perfect between us, we were even going to start trying for a baby” Matthew confided as Chloe’s eyes widened “You were?” She asked. “Do you think she could have been seeing someone else?” Matthew blurted out, but before Chloe could answer they were interrupted by the sound of the front door. Chloe smiled as she opened the door to Kayla Macey who was stood holding a homemade casserole. “I just started cooking, I didn’t know how else to help” Kayla explained. Chloe thanked Kayla as she led her into the kitchen where Matthew was stood staring out of the window. “Has there been any news?” Kayla asked, but Matthew remained silent. Chloe awkwardly led Kayla into the living room “He’s in shock, poor thing” Chloe began “I just don’t understand, why did she leave? Where the hell did she go? I’m supposed to be her best friend” Chloe questioned as Kayla pulled her into a hug “Why hasn’t she been in touch?”

At the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine was serving neighbour Heather Connor as they talked about Olivia’s disappearance “It’s weird isn’t it?” Katherine mused “It has to be another man” Heather replied as she noticed her estranged daughter Vicki walk into the shop. Heather picked up her bags and thanked Katherine as she then walked over to Vicki. Katherine smiled as Cole and Ava Donovan placed their basket onto the counter “How are you both?” Katherine asked. “As well as can be expected” Cole replied. “Poor Matthew, he must be worried sick” Katherine said as Ava shook her head in irritation “I wouldn’t feel too sorry for him” Ava snapped causing Cole to curse, Ava ignored her father and carried on “He was the last person to see Liv and well…” Ava said bitterly “Ava” Cole hissed “Katherine, I’m sorry” Cole apologised as Ava then stormed off. Ava rushed past Vicki, almost knocking her over “Watch it” Vicki complained “The Donovans always lower the tone” Vicki spat bitchily. Heather awkwardly stood next to her daughter and eventually found the courage to invite her over the house for dinner “Michael and Jake both miss having you around” Heather pressed “I’ve got your favourite chocolate fudge cake” She teased as Vicki broke into a little smile. “Mum, I need your help” Heather’s eldest Josh approached them outside the shop “I’m cooking a meal for Siobhan and I don’t know where to start” Heather laughed and told Josh to come over to the house.

“Here you go” Nicki Grant smiled as she handed her flatmate Chloe a hot chocolate with marsh mellows. Chloe smiled weakly as she took the cup, Nicki sat down on the sofa with her “I feel really guilty” Nicki admitted “I distracted you when Olivia needed you and now she’s gone. If you want me to find somewhere else to stay I’ll understand” Nicki said, but Chloe interrupted her “No, of course not. It helps having you here, keeps my mind off wondering where the hell Liv is” Chloe replied as Nicki smiled “I’ll always be here for you Chlo, you’ve been so good to me and I want to be able to repay the favour” Nicki explained as they heard the buzzer of the flat “Please get rid of them, I can’t face people” Chloe sighed. Nicki walked down to the main door of the building and found Harry Campbell on the doorstep “Now’s not a good time” Nicki said coldly “She’s really upset about Olivia” Nicki explained “Well that’s why I’m here, I want to see how she is” Harry said as he tried to move past Nicki, but she remained in Harry’s way “Well, I’ve just told you, now’s not a good time. Chloe isn’t up to visitors” Nicki reasoned “I’m not exactly a visitor Nicki, I’m her boyfriend” Harry said in annoyance “What are we teenagers? Look Harry, I’ll make sure Chloe knows you popped over. Don’t worry, I’ll look after her” Nicki said before closing the front door on HarryMatthew stood on the beach as he stared out to sea, he kicked the sand as he thought about everything that had happened in the last week “You okay?” Kayla asked as she joined Matthew. “Beautiful isn’t it?” Matthew said as he explained that he found the sound of the water calming “You could be anywhere in the world by just looking at it.” Kayla placed her hand on Matthew’s shoulder, he turned slowly and faced her “How did you cope after Patrick? How did you find the strength to go on?” He asked pleadingly “Oh God Kayla, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that” Kayla opened her arms and embraced Matthew “You just have to take one day at a time.” She said softly.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Noah Donovan joined his wife Megan at the bar “Any news?” She asked referring to Olivia. Noah shook his head sadly “Nothing yet, but I have got something to tell you” Noah began. Walking into the pub, Eileen made her way towards the bar and greeted barman Tate Yorke, as Alfie cried in his pram Eileen asked if anyone had seen her son David. Before Tate could answer, David appeared from the toilets and stumbled into the corner of the bar “Where have you been? I’ve been trying to call you” Eileen questioned as Duncan and Steven stared from the table nearby “Look at him, he’s drunk” Steven pointed out in disgust. “Don’t talk to me Faraday, I’ll see you in court” David spat as Steven stood up automatically. Duncan and Eileen both stood between the two men as they stared angrily at each other “Come on David, we’re going home” Eileen pushed “That boy deserves better than a drunk for a father” Steven spat as David lunged towards him, Eileen struggled to hold him back “Home!” She ordered. Duncan and Steven both stood awkwardly as Eileen and David left, the silence was broken as Noah and Megan burst into cheers “Good news?” Duncan asked. “My gorgeous husband has only gone and got us our own flat” Megan beamed as she kissed Noah “Champagne all round then” Duncan smiled, relieved to finally hear some good news.

At the Connor’s, Vicki was sat at the kitchen table with her younger brother Jake, while Heather and Josh were busy cooking “Now, don’t add too much” Heather said as Josh began to pour “Wait” Heather shouted as she tried to save Josh’s disaster “Too heavy handed, always your trouble Josh” Vicki teased as Heather and Jake laughed “We’d better pop over to the shop and pick up some more Thyme” Heather said as Jake pulled out his school history project to show Vicki. “Emily was meant to finish this part, but I had to do it because she forgot” Jake explained “She’s a Spencer, what were you expecting little bro” Vicki laughed. After Heather and Josh left for the supermarket, Jake rushed upstairs to find his sketch book. Alone in the kitchen, Vicki’s eyes rested on her mother’s engagement and wedding rings which were on the shelf above the sink.

Siobhan could feel her breathing speed up as she walked down a long, cold corridor. Her chest tightened and her hands began to shake. Siobhan stopped and pleaded with herself to calm down. Siobhan rushed to the bathroom and splashed cold water onto her face. Siobhan stepped back and stared at herself in the mirror “Be strong Siobhan” She told herself as she then headed back out to her appointment. Ten minutes later, Siobhan was sat opposite her consultant Dr Grace Lewis who told Siobhan that they had her test results back. “I’m afraid your test results indicate that you have multiple sclerosis” Grace paused for a moment “I know you must be scared” Grace said softly, but the words began to fade and a silence fell as Siobhan struggled to take in the news of her diagnosis.
*
“How much can you give me for these?” Vicki’s hand was shaking as she held the two rings out towards Jack Gardener, a pawn broker in Portsmouth. Jack took the rings from Vicki and held them up in the air, he shrugged “Fifty quid” He replied. Vicki scoffed and shook her head “That was my gran’s engagement ring, that alone is worth more” Vicki snapped in frustration. “If you want quick cash then fifty is the best I can do” Jack muttered and returned to cleaning the watch display. Vicki paced around the shop for a moment “Okay, I’ll take it” Vicki said, clearly upset. As she left the shop, Vicki walked towards her boyfriend Luke Campbell and held out the money towards him, begging him to give her a fix as soon as possible. “You do realise that there’s an easier way to make money and you wouldn’t have to steal from your own family” Luke offered slyly. “I told you no” Vicki barked in disgust. Luke shrugged “Just saying, the offer’s there.”

On the doorstep of the Spencer house, Siobhan wiped the tear that had fallen down her cheek; she exhaled deeply as she shakily turned the key and opened her front door. Taking a deep breath, Siobhan called out “I’m home” She took off her coat and hung it on the bannister. The doctor’s words were still ringing in her head as she reached out and leaned against the wall to steady her body. She stood up abruptly as her partner Josh appeared from the dining room “I’m glad you’re back Shive, I have a surprise” Josh teased “Josh wait, I really need to talk…” But Josh was distracted as he led Siobhan into the dining room. Her daughter Emily smiled at her “Surprise” She laughed as Anthony and Katherine were sat around the dinner table, Josh rubbed Siobhan’s shoulders “I know how stressed you’ve been recently so I thought I would give this cooking thing a go” Josh smiled. Siobhan felt like the room was spinning as she sat down at the table “You okay darling?” Katherine asked. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” Siobhan replied, fighting back the urge to cry.

Matthew and Kayla walked quietly across Palmers Street towards Matthew’s flat “Thanks Kayla, for everything today” Matthew said. “You’d do the same for me…you have, you were so good to me after Patrick died” Kayla explained. “You’re a kind woman Kayla, after everything you’ve been through, you still put others before yourself” Matthew looked up hopefully as Chloe walked towards them “Have you heard from her?” He asked. Chloe remained silent “Chloe please” Matthew begged. “She text me” Chloe admitted, but stopped as she noticed Ava “What’s happened?” Ava demanded as Chloe handed her phone over to Matthew to let him read the text message. Tears formed in Matthew’s eyes “She’s gone, she’s left Canvey Island and she’s not coming back” Matthew explained, but Ava shook her head “No she wouldn’t just leave! What about Mum? She wouldn’t just go” Ava slammed before attacking Matthew “What have you done? What have you done to her?” Ava shouted as she hit Matthew repeatedly. “Ava stop” Kayla said as she and Chloe both tried to calm her down “She didn’t just leave you and your mum, she left me, I’m her husband, don’t you think I’m hurting?” Matthew reasoned “You’d need to have a heart to hurt” Ava spat as she pulled away from Kayla and Chloe. She stormed off as Kayla and Chloe were left to comfort Matthew.

3x14: 'She's probably scared her face will crack' | Written by Hannah | Episode Seventy Two Naomi Donovan was sat nervously on a cold plastic chair, her husband Cole sat next to her clutching onto her hand as they waited to be called into Naomi’s hearing “I thought Olivia would be here” Naomi broke the silence. Cole sighed and looked at his wife “She couldn’t find cover for the salon” Cole lied as avoided admitting the truth about Olivia’s departure. Naomi stared at Cole “There’s something wrong, I can see it in your eyes” Naomi whispered, but before Cole could answer, their children Noah and Ava appear carrying cups of tea. Meanwhile, at Chloe Charles’ flat, the barmaid was sharing lunch with her new flatmate Nicki Grant, Nicki watched Chloe with interest as Chloe stared at her laptop screen “Should I be offended that your laptop is better company?” Nicki joked, but Chloe was distracted “Olivia hasn’t been on Facebook since before she left” Chloe explained as Nicki just shrugged “Liv’s always addicted to that stupid Candy Crush game” Chloe expanded “Look Chlo, you know I’m your friend and I might sound blunt but Olivia’s gone, she’s obviously met someone and run away with him” Nicki took a bite of her sandwich, but Chloe stood up “I have to find Ava, there’s something not right here.” Chloe maintained.

At the Connor house, Heather Connor was rummaging around the kitchen as her husband Michael walked in “Spring cleaning again?” He joked, but Heather wasn’t in the mood to laugh “My rings, I took them off a few days ago when I was helping Josh with his meal and now they’re nowhere to be found” Heather explained in frustration, Michael pulled Heather in towards him “They’re turn up, we both know what you’re like, you’d lose your head if it wasn’t screwed on” Michael teased gently “I hope so, your mother would never forgive me if I lost her ring” Heather moaned. At the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan Donovan was stood in the bar in front of her mother Lindsay Faraday “Are you sure I don’t look like I’m trying too hard?” Megan questioned the outfit she had picked out for her college interview “You look like a girl who deserves a place on the course” Lindsay said proudly “I really want this mum” Megan admitted “Go in with your head up high and show them what you can do” Lindsay encouraged. After Megan had left, Lindsay smiled as her friend Natalie Hunt approached the bar “You look stressed” Lindsay observed “Stressed doesn’t even cover it, I can’t believe Olivia just upped and left, I’m running that salon single handed” Natalie complained “I’m a nail technician, I have no idea how to cut hair” Lindsay laughed “I definitely won’t be coming to you next time I need a trim” She teased “I need a night out” Natalie decided “I’ll text Sophia and we can head over to Chemistry” Natalie planned “I’m working tonight” Lindsay sighed “Oh Linds, please” Natalie pressed attempting to pull a puppy dog face, Lindsay couldn’t help but laugh “I’ll see if Daniel can cover, but I’m making no promises.”
*
Siobhan Spencer’s eyes ran over the paragraph after paragraph of writing she had found on the internet, she read the information about the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis; she gulped as she began to imagine how much her life was going to change. Siobhan sat back in her seat and tried to keep herself together “Do you want me to pick Emily up from ballet?” Siobhan’s mother Katherine Lavery asked as she walked into the living room. Siobhan quickly changed the internet page and tried to smile “Yes please” Siobhan answered. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost” Katherine observed, but Siobhan soon changed the subject. Meanwhile, Ava and Noah were sat waiting for Naomi and Cole “You’re very quiet” Noah broke the silence “I keep thinking about Olivia” Ava admitted “If I tell you something…” Ava began but soon stopped “Aves, what’s wrong?” Noah asked. “I don’t think Mum was wrong about Matthew” Ava said slowly, Noah sighed “Don’t do this Aves, Mum understands that she was ill when she accused Matthew, if you start playing along she’ll never get out of this place” Noah pressed but Ava shook her head “I think he’s done something to Olivia” Noah stood up and began to pace the corridor “You can’t do this Ava, promise me you’ll keep your mouth shut, if Mum hears you talking like this…” Noah let the sentence trail off as the door opened and Naomi and Cole walked out smiling. Noah and Ava both rushed forwards expectantly “Well?” Noah asked. “I’m coming home” Naomi beamed as Cole pulled his family into a tight hug.

At the spinal unit at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Mia Faraday was exhausted after her session with her physio Sahira Jakra “You’ve done well today Mia” Sahira said clinically as she left. “Does she never smile?” Mia questioned her friend Alex Ellison. “She’s probably scared that her face will crack” Alex laughed. As Mia and Alex talked about their morning’s sessions, Mia didn’t notice a visitor approach her. Kyle Campbell greeted Mia as her eyes narrowed “What are you doing here?” She asked coldly. “I wanted to see how you’re doing” Kyle informed. Alex awkwardly excused himself as Kyle sat down on a chair near Mia “I know I’m the last person you want to see, but Mia, I want you to know how sorry I am” Kyle said genuinely. “You said that before” Mia replied, she began to soften as she took in the look on Kyle’s face “I understand that it was an accident” Mia said softly and soon changed the subject to life on Canvey Island. “Who was that guy before?” Kyle asked suddenly “You seem close” He hinted “We’re friends, Alex understands better than anyone else what I’m going through” Mia explained “I’m glad you’ve got someone to talk to” Kyle began “You know you can always talk to me” He offered. Mia smiled “Who knew Vicki’s bad boy boyfriend would actually turn out to have a heart?” Mia teasedSiobhan stared at her hands as she listened to the counsellor Ros Boyden speak about the effects of multiple sclerosis, she closed her eyes tightly as she tried to block out Ros’ voice “Siobhan…Siobhan” Ros pressed “Are you okay?” She asked, Siobhan shook her head and stood up “Of course I’m not, I’ve got this disease and there’s no cure for it, how the hell am I supposed to tell my family?” Siobhan cried out “I’m already falling over all over the place, my bladder is weaker than a piece of thread and I can’t even sleep with my partner, how long will he put up with all this?” Siobhan ranted “Why me? I don’t understand why this is happening to me?” Siobhan sobbed. “I can’t tell you how to cope with this Siobhan, but I do think you should talk to your family, you are going to need their support more than ever” Ros encouraged, but Siobhan wasn’t listening, she dropped her head in her hands as she cried.

The Crown and Horseshoe fell silent as the Donovan family walked into the pub, landlady Lindsay walked forwards and greeted Naomi, welcoming her back into the community. As Naomi and Lindsay talked, Ava caught the eye of barmaid Chloe. “I’ve been trying to call you” Chloe said “I had to be there for my mum” Ava replied. “I need to ask Ava, what did you mean the other day? Do you think Matthew has something to do with Olivia leaving?” Chloe questioned, Ava struggled to know what to say, but before she had the chance Naomi appeared behind her “I think it’s about time someone told me where my sister is” Naomi demanded. Over at the bar, Lindsay poured out a shot for herself and Natalie “Sophia’s cancelled on us” Natalie admitted “All dressed up and nowhere to go” Lindsay sighed. “We can still go out, come on Linds, it’ll be a laugh” Natalie downed her shot “Let’s have another for the road” She laughed. Naomi followed Ava outside “Mum, he’s done something to her, I know it” Ava pressed as Naomi paced “Olivia wouldn’t just leave, I think she was trying to find proof that Matthew’s been stalking us” Ava explained as Cole approached his wife and daughter “Why didn’t you tell me about Olivia?” Naomi accused “I’m sorry Naomi, I should’ve told you but I need you to be focused on today, Naomi, I needed my wife back” Cole said emotionally as he pulled Naomi into a hug. Naomi and Ava shared a look, both knowing that they couldn’t voice their suspicions until they had evidence against Matthew. Back inside the pub, Megan walked in glumly “How did it go sweetheart?” Megan’s father Daniel Hastings asked, referring to her interview. Megan shrugged “I messed it up, I kept getting all my words and sentences mixed up, I must have sounded like an idiot” Megan complained as Daniel tried to reassure her, her husband Noah kissed her on the cheek to cheer her up “You don’t need to worry Megs, you’ve got your job at Chemistry” He said, trying to sound supportive.
*
In the Connor’s living room, Heather was sat on the sofa watching Lord of the Rings with youngest son Jake, she smiled as husband Michael joined them “Hold out your hand” He teased and Heather obliged. “Where did you find them?” Heather squealed as she placed her rings back on her finger “That’s the bit you’re not gonna like, they were in a pawn shop in Portsmouth” Michael admitted. “How the hell did they get there?” Heather asked confused. “You must have lost them at the gym or something” Michael suggested but Heather shook her head “No Michael, I took them off in the kitchen, I remember doing it. Josh was cooking and Jake was sat at the table finishing off his project” Heather remembered “Vicki wanted to see the finished product” Jake muttered “Vicki” Heather said suspiciously “Oh Heather, Vicki is a lot of things, but a thief isn’t one of them” Michael defended their daughter “She’s a completely different person since meeting that bloody Luke Campbell” Heather quietened her voice so that Jake couldn’t hear “I’m not having this anymore Michael, I’ve tried to make up for what I did, but enough is enough, I’m done trying.”
*
Lindsay and Natalie giggled as they walked off the dancefloor at Chemistry “I don’t even know who sings any of these songs” Lindsay laughed. “Oh come off it Linds, you’re not that old” Natalie giggled as they walked towards the bar. As they ordered their drinks, a group of drunken overzealous men approached the two women “Let a boy buy a girl a drink” One of them leaned into Lindsay, Lindsay backed off as the smell of beer overwhelmed her “Boy is the right word” She tried to move away, but the man pulled her waist and put his arm around her. Natalie shook her head and pulled Lindsay’s hand “Excuse me, that’s my girlfriend” Natalie pointed out and kissed Lindsay on the lips causing the men to scream and cheer “That’s alright, three isn’t always a crowd” He laughed. “I think I’d rather pluck out my own hair one by one” Natalie shot back “Come Linds, I don’t think much of the company in here.” Lindsay followed Natalie out of the club, but remained quiet as she still reeled from the kiss they shared.
*
Outside the Connor and Fitzgerald office, Naomi was stood against the wall as she watched Matthew Fitzgerald lock up the office. She quietly crept behind him causing him to jump “You scared me Naomi” Matthew tried to get his breath back “Not nice is it Matthew, having someone watch you from the shadows” Naomi said coldly. “Careful Naomi, if Cole heard you talking like this, you’ll be straight back in the nut house” Matthew leaned in threateningly “I’m not scared of you Matthew” Naomi stood up to him “Maybe you should be” He warned. “I will find my sister” Naomi promised “I’m not the weak pathetic woman you messed with, I’m stronger and I’m smarter and I promise you, I will make you pay for what you’ve put my family through” Naomi took one last look at Matthew and turned away, she held her head up high as she walked strongly away.

3x15: 'It's the cheap stuff' | Written by Joe | Episode Seventy Three It was early evening on Canvey Island as new business owners Kayla Macey and Chrissie Campbell put the final touches to the blackboard in their new café “What do you think?” Kayla asked. Chrissie smiled at the small picture of a tea cup in the corner “Cute” Chrissie laughed “I can’t believe we really open in an hour” Chrissie enthused. However, Kayla smiled wistfully as Chrissie fixed some fairy lights to the ceiling. “It feels kind of rusky” Chrissie muttered “With the sun getting ready to set” Chrissie continued as Kayla stared out of the window, she rushed out of the café without a word as she noticed Matthew Fitzgerald pass by. “Still no news?” She asked. Matthew shook his head sadly “Don’t you have a café opening to get back to?” Matthew said gently. Kayla shrugged “I feel silly, you’re going through your wife leaving you and I’m here getting excited about a café” Kayla confessed “You don’t even have any answers about what’s happened to Olivia” Kayla observed as Matthew took Kayla’s hands in his “You have to take every chance at happiness you can get, even if it’s for the smallest of moments, you take it” Matthew spoke passionately as a tear formed in his eye “I know Patrick would have wanted every inch of happiness for you and tonight is no different” Matthew stared at Kayla for a moment too long, Kayla pulled Matthew into an embrace as they thought about their own losses.

At the Spencer house, Katherine Lavery was rushing around cleaning up after dinner, her granddaughter Emily Spencer was still sat at the dinner table texting her best friend Jake Connor on Viber “Thanks for your help with the dishes Em” Katherine complained as Emily finally looked up from her phone “Sorry” Emily muttered and collected the glasses from the table. Emily’s older brother Anthony appeared from the living room “Tate’s had to stay on at work so he’ll meet us there” He said as he noticed his stepmother Siobhan staring out the window into the garden. “Is Josh covering the opening for the paper?” Anthony asked as he approached Siobhan. “Mum” Anthony repeated causing Siobhan to snap back into reality, she shook her head in confusion and muttered that she wasn’t sure. Meanwhile, at Chloe Charles’ flat, Chloe’s flatmate Nicki Grant was hovering over the kitchen counter staring at Chloe’s vibrating phone. Nicki stared at Harry Campbell’s name on the screen, once the phone had stopped; Nicki picked up the phone and deleted the call log. Nicki quickly placed the phone back down as she heard Chloe stumbling through the hallway “Have you seen my other red shoe?” Chloe asked as she limped around wearing one red wedge shoe. Nicki giggled as she put on her earrings “I’m glad you changed your mind about tonight” Nicki smiled. “Well, what you said was right. Olivia running off shouldn’t put my life on hold, besides I should be there tonight for Chrissie, she’s Harry’s mum, not that he’s even bothered to call me” Chloe complained “I’m just gonna give Ava a text, see if she’s heard anything” Chloe muttered as Nicki found Chloe’s other red shoe under the table.

“Naomi, please hurry up, we’re gonna be late” Cole Donovan complained as he stood at the bedroom door watching his wife Naomi putting on her lipstick “You look gorgeous” He muttered trying to hurry her up. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Naomi asked nervously. “Everyone will be happy to see you” Cole said supportively. “My sister’s missing and I’m going to a party” Naomi frowned. “Olivia’s probably lying on a beach somewhere working on her tan” Cole tried to sound confident, but even he had no idea where Olivia could be. “Maybe” Naomi muttered, knowing she didn’t believe that. “What about Chrissie and Kayla? I don’t want to take the attention away from them, this is their big night” Naomi carried on. “You ain’t the London Eye darling, I’m sure you won’t be the main attraction” Cole tried to joke as their daughter Ava appeared at the doorway “Are you ready?” She asked, not convinced about the evening herself. Cole looked at Naomi and Ava “A smile would be nice” He sighed as they both followed him down the stairs.

Daniel Hastings and his partner Imogen Sandford walked hand in hand along Canvey Lanes towards the café, they both smiled politely as they bumped into Daniel’s ex-wife Lindsay Faraday who was walking with her sister-in-law Sophia “Where’s Megan?” Daniel asked “She’s coming over with the Donovans” Lindsay explained. “So she’s out of the looney…” Imogen stopped as she noticed the look on Daniel’s face “…Hospital then” Imogen said. Sophia smiled as her friend Natalie Hunt joined them “Nice night for it” Natalie smiled glancing at Lindsay. “What do you mean by that?” Lindsay snapped causing Imogen to look at her in surprise. “I mean it’s a lovely night for the opening” Natalie explained as Lindsay walked on ahead. Natalie walked next to Sophia “Is she okay?” Natalie asked, watching Lindsay carefully. Imogen linked arms with Daniel “You had a lucky escape there, and people think I’m off the wall.”

Luke Campbell was stood on the balcony of his brother Harry’s flat, he carefully made sure the door was shut as he spoke hurriedly on the phone “I said alright, we’re coming, I’ll make sure of it” Luke said in a hushed tone. His girlfriend Vicki Connor opened the door and joined him and leaned against the rail “Who was that?” She asked. “You’re getting as nosey as your brother” Luke tried to joke, but Vicki looked annoyed. “I need to talk to you Vic” Luke began “I’ve been offered some work in London for a few months” Luke explained as Vicki looked at him in horror “You’re leaving” She panicked “But what about me, you can’t leave me here alone” Vicki began to pace causing Luke to take hold of her shoulders “Vic babes, I want you to come with me” Luke revealed. Vicki stared at him for a moment “You do?” Vicki whispered as Luke nodded “It won’t be forever, besides what’s keeping us here anyway?” As Luke’s words echoed in the air, Vicki looked down at the flyer she was still holding in her hand. Staring at the advertisement for the café opening, Vicki looked up and stared out at the view of Canvey IslandThe community of Canvey Island were gathered outside the café on Canvey Lanes as they prepared for the grand opening. Chrissie was joined at the front by her wife Jay Willis, while Kayla stood beside her foster children Molly and Kyle Campbell. Chrissie handed Kayla the mic and encouraged her to begin her speech. Kayla took a deep breath “I’m not one for speeches or grand gestures, I always left that to Patrick” Kayla began, her words getting stuck at the mention of Patrick’s name, Kayla smiled as Kyle put his arm around her supportively giving her the strength to carry on “Tonight marks a new beginning for me, and for Chrissie and our family. It’s our dream coming true and it means everything to be stood here with all the people I know and I love…” Kayla stopped and looked at Chrissie “What Kayla is trying to say is, thank you for all being here to support and celebrate with us. But we would just like to take a minute to think about the people who couldn’t be here with us today” Chrissie paused for a moment “There is one important person missing today and when we thought about tonight, we thought of Patrick and how proud he would be if he was here. So ladies and gentlemen, we would like to welcome you to Patrick’s Place” Chrissie smiled as her eldest Harry unveiled the sign and Chrissie and Kayla cut the red ribbon across the door.

Heather and Michael Connor walked into Patrick’s Place with their son Jake, Chrissie greeted them excitedly “Chrissie, this place looks amazing” Heather congratulated and then made her way towards her friend Naomi “It’s good to see you” Heather smiled and hugged Naomi. “Under the thumb again mate” Michael teased Cole “I wouldn’t have it any other way” Cole laughed. “Has there been any update on Olivia?” Ava suddenly asked Michael. “Ava, Michael’s off duty” Cole said. “It’s okay Cole, I’m afraid there hasn’t been any news” Michael explained “We’re monitoring Olivia’s phone and bank accounts so if there is any activity, we’ll be first to know” Michael encouraged Naomi and Ava to stay positive “Maybe you’re looking too far afield” Ava hinted as she looked towards Matthew who was stood with Kayla. “She’ll come back you know” Kayla broke the silence “Maybe” Matthew muttered before admitting he was miles away. “I know the feeling, standing in one spot but feeling like I’m in a completely different place” Kayla placed her hand on Matthew’s arm; he moved his hand and held on tight to Kayla’s. “Hopefully our pain will ease” He whispered as he caught Naomi’s eye. “In time it will” Kayla replied.

Inside Patrick’s Place, Imogen was sipping on a glass of champagne as she stood awkwardly with Daniel and Natalie. “It’s the cheap stuff” Imogen grimaced as she downed the rest of the glass. “Bit like you then” Natalie joked, but Imogen just rolled her eyes in annoyance. Daniel guided Imogen towards the patio, Imogen smiled at Anthony as they walked past her son with his stepmother Siobhan “Having a good night son?” Imogen asked. Anthony nodded and then looked over at Tate who was stood with Harry “There’s Tate, I’d better go over” Anthony muttered as Imogen nodded. “Anthony will come round you know, he’s a good lad” Siobhan said supportively as Imogen thanked her, taken aback by Siobhan’s support. As Imogen and Daniel disappeared, Katherine turned towards Siobhan “That was civil” She commented in surprise “It’s time for a change” Siobhan said as she watched Anthony and Tate laughing.

Noah and Megan Donovan sat at a table together with a piece of cake in front of them “This is gorgeous cake Kayla” Megan complimented as she took another bite of the Victoria Sponge “Thanks Megan, it was Patrick’s mother’s recipe” Kayla smiled “I had to bribe her to get it” She laughed as she joined foster son Kyle. “Looks like Molly’s pulled” Kyle joked as Molly brought over her date Drew Lomax to officially meet Kayla. Drew charmed Kayla as he shook her hand. Meanwhile, outside on the patio late arrival Josh Connor rushed over to partner Siobhan and attempted to kiss her on the lips, but she pulled away from him awkwardly. Over in the corner, Nicki and Chloe were talking when Chloe noticed Nicki’s distraction “Don’t tell me you’re eyeing up Josh Connor. Take it from me, don’t go there” Chloe warned “You sound like you have experience” Nicki pressed “Yeah, not my proudest moment” Chloe admitted thinking back to her fling with Josh the previous year. “Men are the last thing on my mind, especially the way you and Harry are going” Nicki said as Chloe looked at her in confusion “What do you mean by that?” Chloe questioned defensively. “Well Harry hasn’t exactly been around much, you’d think he’d want to be there for you with everything that’s going on with Olivia” Nicki explained, but found herself stopping as Harry approached the women. “So you made it then” Harry said sharply. “Why wouldn’t I?” Chloe asked, taken aback by Harry’s attitude. “I tried to call you earlier, but you never got back to me” Harry explained as he guided Chloe away from Nicki. “I never had a missed call Harry” Chloe defended herself. “I know you’re going through a tough time Chlo, but please don’t push me away” Harry pushed. “I’m not Harry, you’re the one who’s been avoiding me” Chloe argued “I haven’t Chlo, it’s just impossible to get past your bodyguard” Harry looked over at Nicki who was stood alone watching them. “Don’t be so mean Harry” Chloe warned “I don’t want to fight with you” Harry sighed as Chloe agreed. Chloe took hold of Harry’s hand and led him over to join her and Nicki.

Back inside the café, Emily and Jake were attempting to explain to Katherine how Viper works as Siobhan tried to get Josh’s attention “I really need to talk to you” Siobhan whispered and stood up. She guided Josh outside as Emily looked over at Jake “I think we should teach my Nan about Snap Chat” Emily laughed as Jake agreed “I’m not sure I like the sound of this Snap Chat” Katherine said apprehensively. Jake’s parents Heather and Michael sat taking in the view of the whole café “Kayla’s done a fantastic job with the place” Heather commented as Michael agreed. He noticed his daughter Vicki walk past, but she avoided making eye contact with her parents. Michael excused himself as Lindsay joined Heather and caught up with Vicki outside the front of the café. “Weren’t you even going to say hello” Michael said. “Mum doesn’t want to see me” Vicki sighed “She thinks I stole her rings” Vicki feigned hurt in her voice “It hasn’t been an easy year for any of us Vic” Michael said sadly “It shouldn’t be like this, I’m still your Dad Vicki” Michael pleaded, but Vicki backed away “I’m sorry Dad, for everything” Vicki said emotionally, her hands shaking violently. “You look ill” He muttered worried for his daughter “I’m okay” She whispered “I don’t deserve you” Without another word; Vicki rushed off leaving Michael even more worried for his little girl.

Siobhan stared out at the beach as she listened to the water crash onto the shore, she turned to face a confused Josh “I don’t understand where this has come from” Josh shook his head as he took in Siobhan’s words. “I love you Siobhan” Josh pleaded. “I’m sorry Josh, but I don’t feel the same, not anymore. We want different things” She tried to explain. “Is this about the baby?” Josh questioned. “There was no baby” Siobhan pointed out “I know, but things haven’t been the same since you thought you was pregnant” Josh tried to hold onto Siobhan, but she pulled away unable to look at him “It made me realise that we’re at different stages in our lives, I’m sorry Josh, it’s over” Siobhan said strongly. “No Siobhan, there’s something else. After everything we’ve been through after the siege and the disapproval of our families, we’re happy Siobhan, you can’t just tell me that it’s all been for nothing” Josh begged. “We should have never got together, it was a mistake Josh. I never loved you, not like I loved Robert. I’m sorry, but it’s over Josh” Siobhan determined. As Josh reeled from the shock, Siobhan began to walk away, tears in her eyes as her own heart broke
