3x16: 'It's not all happiness in paradise' | Written by Hannah | Episode Seventy Four It was late afternoon as Heather Connor walked through the front door to find her eldest son Josh sat on the sofa in his boxer shorts “You have to be joking” Heather snapped “It’s been over a week Josh” She complained as Josh ignored her. “What about your job?” She demanded “You’ll get the sack if you’re not careful” She shouted from the kitchen as her other son Jake rushed in and opened the fridge “I’m cooking a family meal tonight, no snacking from the fridge” Heather closed the fridge “Is Vicki coming over?” Jake asked. Heather’s face fell and she shook her head, changing the subject. Meanwhile, at the Spencer house, Siobhan Spencer was rushing around as she finished getting ready for her shift at Faraday’s Restaurant, her mother Katherine Lavery was still trying to find out details about her break up with Josh “I’m just saying I don’t understand Siobhan, you were so happy and now…” Katherine mused, but Siobhan interrupted her “Stop just saying Mum, will you just once trust my judgement” Siobhan pleaded as Katherine stared at her sadly “I just want you to be happy Siobhan.”

Naomi Donovan hung up the phone once again as she cancelled yet another of her missing sister’s appointments at Kane Creations. “What does this mean for my job?” Nail Technician Natalie Hunt asked bluntly as Naomi rubbed her eyes. “I don’t know, I’m sorry Natalie, but for now the salon is closed” Naomi sighed. Natalie shook her head in anger “Your sister has a lot to answer for” Natalie snapped as she stormed out. Once alone Naomi stood up and angrily swept everything off the desk sending files and nail polishes everywhere, Naomi’s daughter Ava appeared from the doorway and rushed towards her mother “It’s okay Mum” Ava whispered as she pulled Naomi closer to her. “I just want my little sister back” Naomi said emotionally.

Outside Patrick’s Place, Vicki Connor was sat at a table sipping a hot chocolate. She brightened up as she noticed her boyfriend Luke Campbell walk towards her. He excitedly pulled her into a passionate kiss and held out two train tickets in front of her. “It’s official, we’re going to London babes” Luke smirked. Vicki took hold of the tickets “They’re for tonight” She said stunned. “The sooner we get out of this hell hole the better” Luke spat catching the eye of his younger brother Kyle who was waiting on a table nearby. “This is a new beginning for us babes” Luke kissed Vicki once again and rushed off. Vicki was startled as Kyle took Luke’s empty seat “You can’t leave with him Vic” Kyle pleaded. Vicki stood up in annoyance “Why don’t you just mind your own?” She lashed out. “This isn’t me being jealous, I’m seriously telling you, you can’t leave with him” Kyle warned. Vicki shook her head and stormed off, but truthfully Kyle’s warning had got under her skin.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, barmaid Chloe Charles was laughing as her friend Nicki Grant propped up the bar drinking a cocktail. Chloe walked over to the other side of the bar and served Josh who demanded another beer “You look rough” She commented. “It’s been a rough week” He sighed, he noticed Nicki watching him from the other side of the bar “Who’s your friend? She’s cute” Josh asked “I don’t think Siobhan would be impressed with you checking out my friend” Chloe pointed out which made Josh chuckle “I don’t think Siobhan would care what I do, she dumped me” He took a chug of his beer and made his way over to Nicki “You gonna let a boy buy you a drink?” He offered. Nicki tried to ignore the disapproving look Chloe was giving her and began to talk to Josh. Meanwhile, a disgruntled Natalie approached landlady Lindsay Faraday as she looked over the invoices “I need a night out” Natalie sat herself down on the chair opposite Lindsay. Lindsay awkwardly made an excuse confusing Natalie. “Is this about that kiss?” Natalie suddenly blurted out “Come on Lindsay, it was a stupid meaningless kiss to get rid of those pervy guys” Natalie explained “What’s a few kisses between friends?”

Ava carefully held out a cup of tea towards her mother Naomi who was now sat curled up on the Donovan sofa “Feeling a little better?” She asked. Naomi nodded “I’m supposed to be the one looking after you” Naomi smiled weakly. Ava curled up next to Naomi and leaned her head on her shoulder “I’m just glad you’re home” She whispered. They were interrupted by the sound of the front door, Ava stood up and found Michael Connor on the doorstep “You have news” Ava observed taking in the expression on Michael’s face. “Please can I come in?” He asked. Michael followed Ava into the living room where Naomi was. Naomi sat up straight as Ava invited Michael to sit down. “We found Olivia’s handbag down by the pier and there was a letter inside” Michael began to explain “I’m so sorry Naomi, the letter…” Michael paused “It’s a suicide note” He broke the news gently. Naomi shook her head “No” She whispered. “We’ve sent out a search team into the water…I’m so sorry, they’re looking for a body” Michael told the women. Ava gasped as Naomi broke into a sob “No, Olivia would never…she wouldn’t” Naomi maintained, her voice becoming louder as her husband Cole arrived home “Naomi, what’s happened?” He questioned as Michael then explained the discovery. Cole held onto Ava as Naomi continued to refuse to believe that Olivia would commit suicide. “Michael, I know my sister. She is strong and beautiful, she had no reason to want to kill herself, please Michael someone has hurt her” Naomi begged. Ava held onto Naomi as Cole followed Michael out into the hallway “The signs all point to suicide Cole” Michael explained “Naomi’s right, Olivia is not the kind of person to kill herself” Cole supported his wife “I’ll call if I get any more news” Michael replied
Mia Faraday smiled wistfully as she took in the fresh air of the garden at the spinal unit; she was surprised to see her friend Kyle appear. “How’s the rehab?” He asked. Mia shrugged “Same as, Sahira says my arms are getting stronger, I’ll have bigger muscles than you soon with all this wheeling myself around” She joked, but Kyle just smiled. “What’s Vicki done now?” Mia suddenly asked. Kyle looked up and shrugged “She’s leaving tonight” He revealed. Mia gasped “She’s not even gonna say goodbye” She complained “Although I shouldn’t really be surprised, she hasn’t even bothered to come and see me” Mia watched Kyle for a moment “There’s something else” She observed. “Kyle!” Mia ordered. “I can’t” Kyle said emotionally. “Is Vicki in trouble?” Mia asked feeling panicked, Kyle nodded “You have to believe me Mia, I never wanted to be involved but he forced me” Kyle pleaded “Who did?” She responded. “Luke” Kyle muttered “When we were living in London, my mum was in rehab and Harry was gone, Luke was all I had. He would choose girls, usually homeless girls and I had to…he made me date them, he’d give me money to buy them clothes, dinners and then once they were into me…he’d…he’d get them hooked on every kind of drug he could get hold of” Kyle explained as Mia sat listening in horror “And once they were hooked he’d move them to the next stage, he pimped them out all over London” Kyle finally said out loud “I had no choice Mia, you believe me?” He begged as Mia nodded trying to take in everything he had told her “Vicki” She whispered. Kyle nodded “He’s taking her to London tonight” Kyle revealed “You have to stop her” Mia pleaded. “She won’t listen to me” Kyle began to pace “You have to go to Heather and Michael, they can stop it” Mia pushed “I can’t” Kyle maintained “Luke would kill me, I’m not joking Mia, he doesn’t care if I’m his brother, he would kill me” Kyle’s voice trembled. “Please Kyle, if you ever cared about Vicki…or me…you have to go to Heather and Michael.” *
Josh and Nicki walked hand in hand towards Faraday’s Restaurant, Josh opened the door chivalrously for Nicki and looked around the busy restaurant, he soon caught the eye of his former partner Siobhan. Taking a deep breath, assistant manager Siobhan placed a smile on her face and walked over to greet the couple “A table for two?” Siobhan asked. Nicki nodded but Josh spoke up “Yes, you know what they say about three’s a crowd when you’re on a date” Josh hissed as Siobhan felt a lump rise in her throat “I’ll show you to your table” Josh and Nicki followed Siobhan to a table in the corner and took the menus she held out towards them. Siobhan soon excused herself and rushed straight into the kitchen, leaning against the closed door Siobhan concentrated on calming herself down. Back out in the restaurant Nicki questioned Josh about his involvement with Chloe “It was just a few one night stands a long time ago” Josh explained surprised that Nicki had brought up the subject “Is it a problem?” He asked. Nicki shook her head “It doesn’t bother me, I think Chloe’s a little jealous though” Nicki stirred. Josh laughed “I don’t think so, bedsides Chloe’s pretty loved up with that cop” Josh said. “Between you and me, it’s not all happiness in paradise.” Nicki whispered.
*
Matthew Fitzgerald sat inside a soft interview room at Canvey Island Police Station, Michael placed a cup of coffee down on the table in front of him “I need to know what happened between you and Olivia the last time you saw her” Michael pressed as Matthew stared at him. “You really think Olivia’s killed herself” Matthew muttered. “Matthew” Michael tried to get Matthew to focus “I lied” Matthew suddenly blurted out “When I told everyone Olivia left, she didn’t just leave” Matthew admitted “I told her that I wanted a divorce” Matthew explained “Things have never been the same since she found out about me and Naomi” Matthew continued “You and Naomi?” Michael questioned. Matthew nodded “We were involved years ago, actually we were engaged. But it didn’t work out and then when I met Olivia, I realised that they were sisters” Matthew paused for a moment “I did love Olivia, but I couldn’t pretend…I couldn’t ignore what was still there between me and Naomi and neither could she” Matthew revealed. “Are you saying you and Naomi were having an affair?” Michael asked. Matthew nodded “I think that’s why Naomi broke down at the wedding, she begged me not to go through with it, but I thought I was doing the right thing…for Olivia and Cole. But seeing Naomi so ill, it made me realise how much I love her and that’s why I told Olivia everything” Matthew stopped again “She killed herself because she found out that I was leaving her for her sister.”

At the dinner table, Heather sat alone with her son Jake as they finished their meal “Can I go over to Emily’s?” Jake suddenly asked after he had cleared the table. Heather nodded “Sure why not?” Heather muttered. Not long after Jake had left, her husband Michael finally walked through the front door “I’m so sorry” He apologised “It’s been an awful day” He sighed as Heather’s face softened and she pulled her husband into a hug. “We’ve got an empty house” She smiled and began to massage Michael’s shoulders. “Hmm” He opened his eyes and pulled Heather into a kiss. But before things could go any further, the couple were interrupted by a loud bang at the front door. Michael opened the door as Kyle pushed past in a panic “You have to stop them” He begged. Heather and Michael both tried to calm him down “Please he’s going to…” Kyle struggled to catch his breath “Vicki, he’s going to force her…” Michael pulled Kyle by his jacket “Force her to do what?!” Michael demanded “Sleep with men…for money” Kyle admitted as Michael looked at Heather in horror.

A montage began as Matthew sat alone in his flat staring at a photograph of him and Olivia on their wedding day. Siobhan stood at the cash register, occasionally glancing up at where Josh and Nicki were sitting, completely engrossed in each other. At the Donovan house, Cole gently placed a blanket over a sleeping Naomi and Ava. While outside Harry Campbell’s flat, Kyle followed as Heather and Michael demanded to see Luke. Michael pushed past Harry and looked around the flat, calling out Luke’s name “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Harry questioned. “Please Harry, we need to see our daughter” Heather begged. “They’re gone” Harry admitted “Luke and Vicki left for London about an hour ago.”

3x17: 'Your Widow Twanky act won't work on me' | Written by Joe | Episode Seventy Five A dishevelled Matthew Fitzgerald made his way into his cold, empty kitchen. His face was unshaven and he was wearing only his dressing gown. He stood at the kitchen counter for a moment, staring into space. He shook his head, as if to bring him back down to earth “Sugar?” He asked as he turned to face Kayla Macey, who was struggling to take in the state of Matthew’s flat. “Yes please” She smiled softly. As they waited for the kettle to boil, Kayla began to talk about Olivia and how the news of her death had shaken the whole community. Silence fell as Matthew drifted off into his own world once again, only listening to the sound of the boiling kettle getting louder and louder. Finally, as the kettle boiled over, Matthew began to cry as he finally lost his temper and threw everything to the ground. The sound of breaking china echoed around the flat as Kayla tried to pull Matthew closer to her. Matthew dropped to the ground as Kayla put her arms around him “She’s gone…she’s gone” Kayla whispered.

The hot sun hit the side of the Portsmouth Courthouse as Eileen Fields stood outside attempting to fix son David’s tie. She inhaled sharply as Steven and Duncan Faraday walked towards them. “Don’t rise to it” Eileen ordered in a whisper as they walked past. “Good morning” Duncan greeted. “It will be once all this nonsense is over and Alfie is home with us for good” Eileen barked. Duncan and Steven ignored Eileen’s comment while David rolled his eyes “What did you say about not rising to it?” David snapped as he shared a charged look with Steven.

Heather Connor was sat with tears in her eyes on the sofa watching an old family video “Where are you Vicki?” She whispered to herself. Stood in the kitchen, her husband Michael was leaning against the kitchen door with his hand pressed against his head, his heart was hurting just as much as his wife’s but he was determined to stay strong for them all. “Any news Dad?” Michael’s eldest son Josh asked. “Nothing” Michael muttered. “Why didn’t we see it Dad?” Josh questioned. Michael shook his head “I knew there was something…” Michael began “I didn’t want to push her away” He said, but quietened his voice as youngest son Jake walked into the kitchen. “Where’s Mum?” Jake asked “She needs to drop me off to football camp” Michael tried to smile at Jake and told him that he would take him instead. Back in the living room, Heather was staring blankly at the still screenshot of Vicki.

As they walked along the beach, Kayla talked about the opening of Patrick’s Place “It really was a lovely evening Kayla. Patrick would have been so proud of how far you’ve come” Matthew complimented, a pang of guilt hitting his stomach. “I don’t know how you’ve coped; you’ve been so strong since Patrick…” Matthew let the sentence trail off “It will get easier Matthew, I promise” Kayla encouraged “It will always hurt, but it does get easier. When Patrick died…” But Matthew interrupted Kayla “But that’s the thing Kayla. Patrick died, Olivia chose to kill herself, she wasn’t taken, she chose to go. That’s what I can’t understand, why would she choose to leave me, it doesn’t make any sense” Matthew mused sadly.

As she reached the Last Minute Supermarket, Heather was startled by the sound of her phone ringing inside her hand bag. She struggled to find it and tipped it upside down on the ground “Where is it… God dammit” Heather snapped as she dropped to her knees to find her phone. However, it stopped before she could find it. “Are you okay Mrs Connor?” Kyle Campbell asked as he bent down to help her pick up her stuff. “You’ve got a nerve, how dare you speak to me after everything you’ve done” Heather lost her temper and told Kyle to stay away from her family. “It’s not my fault” Kyle defended. Heather shook her head in anger “You could have told us weeks ago, you could have told us from the moment your brother arrived. You could have told us what he was up to and what he had planned” Heather lashed out. Kyle tried to back away from Heather as she continued to berate him. “Heather stop” Kyle’s step mother Jay Willis demanded. “You need to back off, he’s just a kid” Jay stepped in front of Kyle. “He could have saved my daughter” Heather said emotionally “Not content with crippling Mia, he and his sick, vile brother have forced my daughter out of her home and do heaven knows what to make them money” Heather shook her head and began to walk away “You disgust me” She spat. Meanwhile, in the stock room of the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine Lavery was finishing a stock take as her was joined by her daughter Siobhan Spencer. “I bumped into Michael when he dropped Jake off to the school. I can’t imagine what they’re going through” Siobhan confessed as Katherine agreed “Have you spoken to Josh?” Katherine asked, but Siobhan narrowed her eyes in annoyance “Why would I? He’s moved on” Siobhan stated as she walked towards the door. However, the room began to spin and Siobhan fell forwards, just about managing to stop herself in time. “Siobhan” Katherine panicked as she rushed towards her daughter. “I’ll get someone to help” Katherine said breathlessly. “No wait, I’m okay Mum” Siobhan tried to reassure Katherine. “You nearly fainted Siobhan, I’m calling the doctor” Katherine looked for her phone “No Mum, there’s no need. I already know what’s wrong” Siobhan stopped and stared at her mother, the emotion began to show on Siobhan’s face. Katherine felt her heart stop as she took in the tears forming in Siobhan’s eyes “Siobhan, talk to me” Katherine said softly. Siobhan was forced to clear her throat so she could speak “Mum, I’ve got MS.”
“You need to eat” Kayla said as she pushed Matthew’s dinner plate back towards him “I can’t face food, I just can’t” Matthew whispered, but they were interrupted by the sound of the door. As Kayla opened the front door, Naomi Donovan pushed past followed by her daughter Ava “You have to tell them what you did” Naomi pleaded with Matthew. “Have you taken your pills today?” Matthew responded sharply. “Don’t you dare you sanctimonious b*****d” Naomi lashed out. “We went to see your mother again” Ava revealed “But she’s disappeared too” Matthew didn’t respond. “I am begging you Matthew, tell them where she is, let Olivia come home” Naomi begged. Kayla pushed Naomi towards the door “I think you should leave” She spat in disgust. “He’s got to you too” Naomi shook her head “Please Kayla, he’s done something to my sister. Don’t let him manipulate you too” Naomi begged. “Get out” Matthew demanded, Naomi shook her head “I’m not finished yet, your Widow Twanky act won’t work on me” Naomi spat as she and Ava left.

Back at the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine was reeling from the news of her daughter’s illness, Siobhan held out her hand to her mother “Mum” Siobhan whispered. Katherine stared at her daughter with tears in her eyes “Oh Siobhan” Katherine pulled Siobhan into a tight embrace “I’m here for you my girl” Katherine said emotionally as she held onto Siobhan who finally broke down. Meanwhile at the Campbell house, Jay and wife Chrissie were grilling Kyle about where Vicki could be. Heather and Michael were sat at the kitchen table desperately wanting answers. “You know the people Luke’s involved with, you must have an idea where he could have taken Vicki” Chrissie pleaded, but Kyle had nothing to say. “Please Kyle” Heather pleaded. “You’ve changed your tune, you were ready to rip me apart earlier” Kyle snapped. “Kyle, you have to do the right thing. This isn’t for Heather, this is for Vicki. I know how much you care about her and she’s the innocent one in all of this” Jay tried to explain “She hasn’t been innocent since the day she clawed her way out of your womb” Kyle spat nastily, but instantly regretted his attitude as he took in the broken look on Heather’s face. “Stop” Michael demanded “I can go and get a warrant and search this place from top to bottom for any kind of clue to where he could have taken my daughter or you can actually grow up and give us the help we need” Michael’s voice half angry and half begging. Kyle looked at Michael and Heather, then towards Chrissie and Jay “There’s a couple of places, but the addresses are probably out of date.” Kyle muttered.

“I love that little boy with all my heart. Every single beat of my heart belongs to him, he’s the reason I get up in the morning, the reason I lay awake at night, he is my life. And while I understand I’m not his biological father, but biology doesn’t make you a Da. Being there does, hurting with him, smiling with him, that makes you a father” David spoke passionately in front of the judge at the custody hearing of Baby Alfie. “I’ll now hear from you Mr Faraday.” Judge Wall spoke slowly as he looked towards Steven. Steven stood up nervously in the front of the judge. “I can’t speak as passionately as David about my son because I haven’t been given the chance to get to know him, but Alfie is my son. He is loved by me and adored by me and I want him with me. I’ve missed so much of his life already and I’m not prepared to miss any more. Alfie is my son and he belongs with me. I can care for him and provide for him on every single level he’ll ever need. I want to take my son home” Steven said. Judge Wall confirmed that he would review all the evidence and testimonies presented and will return with a judgement in a week.
*
Matthew was sat silently at the kitchen table as Kayla began to tidy away their plates “Stop, I can do that” Matthew said as he stood up and asked Kayla to sit “I’m sorry you had to go through that” Kayla apologised, still angry by Naomi’s behaviour. “I haven’t been honest with you Kayla and I’m sorry for that. I need to tell you something, I feel like I have to confess” Matthew made his way over towards Kayla. As Matthew looked Kayla directly in the eyes, he faintly smiled “I haven’t been honest about something” He repeated. Meanwhile, at the Fields’ house, Eileen returned to the living room after she had paid the babysitter, she smiled softly as she took in the sight of David cradling Alfie. “Who’s the best boy for Daddy” David couldn’t help but laugh at the smile on Alfie’s face. “He loves you son, you’re his Da” Eileen stated. David shrugged “What if I lose him? I can’t lose him, he’s all I’ve got left…all I’ve got left of Michelle” David covered his mouth with his hand as he struggled to contain his emotion; Eileen placed her hand on David’s shoulder and looked away as her own emotion took over.

Duncan and Steven walked into the Faraday’s house where Steven’s estranged wife Sophia was waiting “How did it go?” Sophia asked as Duncan excused himself to make a cup of tea. “The decision will be made in a week” Steven explained. “That’s good I guess…after that then….well” Sophia stammered “I don’t know what to say” Sophia admitted. “It’s okay, I can understand. None of this is easy for any of us” Steven said as he thanked Sophia. “I spoke to Sahira today about the possibility of Mia coming home, she says it may be sooner than we first thought” Sophia explained “That’s fantastic, have you spoken to Mia yet?” Steven smiled with relief. Sophia nodded “Yes and she’s feeling quite positive. It won’t be easy Steven; there’ll have to be lots of changes. Maybe…” Sophia hesitated “Maybe you could move into the spare room…I think Mia will need us both” Sophia said softly.

“You knew Naomi while Cole was in prison” Kayla tried to process what Matthew had told her “But it wasn’t until you moved here that you realised Olivia was her sister. When did the affair…” Kayla let the sentence trail off “It was never physical; our connection is deeper than that. Well, it was, but you’ve seen the way Naomi’s been behaving. I know she’s ill Kayla, but it still hurts” Matthew explained “Olivia believed I was leaving her for Naomi” Matthew confessed “How can I tell Naomi that? It would destroy her to know that it was her fault…our fault that Olivia died” Matthew said emotionally “Do you still have feelings for her?” Kayla asked, the question taking Matthew by surprise. “I thought I did, but now…no I don’t think there’s any feelings left for Naomi” Matthew said firmly. Kayla and Matthew held their gaze for a moment too long, Kayla leant back in her chair and abruptly stood up “I think I should go, but if you need anything Matthew, please let me know” Kayla rushed as she picked up her bag and jacket. “You’ve been amazing Kayla, thank you” Matthew followed Kayla out into the hallway. He leant towards her and kissed her softly on the cheek. As he pulled away, Matthew and Kayla shared a charged look, holding eye contact Matthew raised his hand and pulled Kayla’s face closer. Slowly, they moved closer towards each other before kissing passionately

3x18: 'Call it twintuition' | Written by Hannah | Episode Seventy Six Kayla Macey lay awake as she stared up at the unfamiliar ceiling; she turned and looked at the small digital clock on the bedside table, it was five thirty in the morning. Slowly, Kayla sat up and leant towards the floor to pick up her pink blouse. She looked back towards a sleeping Matthew Fitzgerald, who looked peaceful. Kayla crept quietly through the hallway and opened the front door. Closing the door as quietly as possible, Kayla looked out towards a deserted Palmers Street. Meanwhile, walking out the alley from Collison Avenue joining onto Palmers Street, Kyle Campbell stopped abruptly as he noticed his foster mother Kayla emerging from Matthew’s flat. He stepped backwards into the shadows and watched as she rushed home.

Sat in her dressing gown at the kitchen table, Katherine Lavery nursed a steaming hot cup of tea. Her daughter Siobhan Spencer walked into the kitchen and switched on the kettle “You’re up early” Siobhan commented. “I couldn’t sleep” Katherine replied. The women remained silent as Siobhan made herself a cup of tea. “You need to talk to me Siobhan sweetheart” Katherine pressed. “You can’t just tell me that you have…” Katherine paused for a moment “Multiple Sclerosis and then refuse to talk about it” Katherine reached across the table and held onto Siobhan’s hand as she sat down “I’m not ready yet” Siobhan’s voice broke. “And you can’t tell anybody. Mum, please promise me” Siobhan pleaded as Katherine stared emotionally at her daughter.

As the sun rose on Canvey Island, the Donovan family were sitting at the breakfast table when the post arrived. Ava jumped up and grabbed hold of the envelope she had been waiting for, she nervously ripped it open and squealed in delight. She rushed into the dining room and showed her parents the letter “I got in” Ava said excitedly, but soon her face dropped “I’m sorry Mum” Ava apologised. Naomi smiled as brightly as she could manage “Don’t be Ava, this family needs some good news. My little girl, studying medicine” Naomi said proudly and hugged her daughter. Cole pulled both women into a hug “You deserve this Ava” Cole kissed Ava on the head “Olivia would’ve been so proud of you too” Cole said as Naomi tensed at the mention of her sister’s name. Meanwhile, at the Connor and Fitzgerald office, Matthew was sat at his desk as his colleague Heather Connor walked past “Any news?” He asked in reference to Heather’s daughter Vicki. Heather shook her head sadly “We checked out a few addresses, but Campbell had already moved on.” Heather sighed and thanked Matthew for asking. Matthew stared at his phone as he scrolled down to find Kayla’s number. He sat with his thumb over the call button but ultimately decided not to call.

On her way to work at the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine walked past Patrick’s Place and froze at the sight of Josh Connor sitting enjoying breakfast with Nicki Grant. She frowned in disbelief “You moved on quickly” She commented as she walked past. “Siobhan made her choice” Josh responded. Katherine hesitated for a moment, but chose not to say anything more and she continued on her way. “A bit awkward” Nicki said to break the silence. “It’s what happens when you live on a small island” Josh shrugged. Nicki’s attention was drawn towards her flatmate Chloe Charles who was approaching hand in hand with her boyfriend Harry Campbell “Fancy joining us?” Nicki shouted out “We can call it a double date” She added as Josh cringed. Meanwhile, inside Patrick’s Place Kyle was sat at a table in the corner as his mother Chrissie joined him “It’s not your fault you know” Chrissie tried to reassure her son “Luke and Vicki, it’s not your fault” She repeated “Whatever” He answered. Chrissie stared for a moment before getting up and leaving him on his own. She smiled as daughter Molly arrived and kissed her on the cheek. Molly noticed Kyle sitting alone and joined him “What’s up with you?” Molly commented. Kyle merely shrugged and remained silent. “I know you Kyle, I know when something’s bothering you… call it twintuition” Molly joked, but Kyle remained silent. “Do you think Kayla’s forgotten Patrick?” Kyle asked finally. Molly was shocked by the suggestion “You just need to look at this place to know the answer to that” Molly took a sip of Kyle’s drink “She will move on one day though Kyle, Kayla deserves some happiness in her life” Molly said softly “I guess” Kyle replied.

At the spinal unit, Steven Faraday thanked Sahira Jakra as she handed him leaflets explaining how to prepare for daughter Mia’s homecoming. “It will take its toll on you and your wife” Sahira explained. “Ex-wife” Steven corrected “Well…technically Sophia’s still my wife…it’s really complicated” Steven stumbled over his words “Who doesn’t have complicated?” Sahira laughed. “That’s true” Steven agreed. “Do you think it’s the right thing? Mia coming home” Steven asked as he looked over at daughter Mia who was playing a board game with Alex Ellison “She’s made friends here” Steven said. “Mia will still be coming in every day for her physio; she can still spend time with her friends. Moving home will give Mia the chance to rebuild her life, find that new normality that she desperately wants” Sahira and Steven walked outside while Mia continued her game of Monopoly with Alex. “Excited about going home?” Alex asked. Mia shrugged “I don’t know” She admitted. “I’m different now” Mia tried to find the right words “I’m a completely different person. Six months ago I was getting ready to sit my GCSEs, a teenage girl with posters of The Vamps on her bedroom wall…now…” Mia paused “Now you don’t like The Vamps?” Alex smirked as Mia laughed “Well I wouldn’t go that far” She responded. “You’re still the same person inside Mia, even if we do need to work on your taste in music” Alex teased as they both laughed
As she stood behind the counter in the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine once again snapped at shop assistant Noah Donovan as he dropped a tray of eggs on the floor. Noah quickly apologised and rushed to find the mop. Katherine’s boss and friend Duncan Faraday approached from the office and took in Katherine’s state “Katherine, are you okay?” Duncan asked concerned. Katherine nodded, not trusting herself to speak as Duncan guided her into the office. “I’m worried about you Katherine, you don’t seem like yourself” Katherine burst into tears as she cursed herself “I’m sorry Duncan, I don’t want anyone to see me like this” She tried to calm herself down. “You can talk to me” He whispered loudly putting his arm around his friend “I can’t, I promised” Katherine said emotionally. “I won’t force you, but I’m here when you need me” Duncan promised as Katherine thanked him.

As early evening began to set upon Canvey Island, Chrissie was finishing closing up the café. She couldn’t stop thinking about her son Luke and everything she had learnt about him in the last few weeks. In a sudden temper, Chrissie sent the china cups crashing to the floor. She looked at her handbag hanging up on the door. She silently walked towards it and pulled out of a bottle of vodka. Sitting down on the floor with her back against the counter Chrissie stared at the bottle. She wiped away a tear and stood up, picking up the bottle and unscrewing the lid. She hovered the bottle near her lips for a moment before taking it away and emptying the entire contents into the sink. Taking a deep breath, Chrissie returned to her cleaning.

Cole sat at the head of the table in the corner of the Crown and Horseshoe pub, he raised a class of champagne and his family followed suit. Naomi turned towards their daughter Ava and smiled, while her son Noah and his wife Megan congratulated Ava on her university offer “I know there are people missing today” Cole began “But I think I know Olivia well enough to know that she wouldn’t want us to let today go without a celebration.” Cole held onto Naomi’s hand with his free hand “I want to congratulate my beautiful daughter. You are going to make a wonderful doctor and we are so proud of you. It’s been a hell of a year, but you’ve fought for your future against all the odds and Ava, nobody deserves it more than you. To Ava” Cole and the family toasted. Meanwhile, at the bar Harry and Josh were sat with a pint as Josh talked about how quickly Nicki had become attached to him “She seems to do that” Harry muttered referring to how close Nicki and Chloe have become. “Have you told her you’re not looking for anything serious?” Harry asked as Josh shook his head “I didn’t think I needed to, I’ve just got out a long term relationship the last thing I wanna do is jump head first into another” Josh admitted “I think you’d better tell her before she starts picking out engagement rings” Harry teased as Josh’s eyes widened in alarm. Heather and her husband Michael approached the bar as Naomi walked over and asked if there was any news from the search for Olivia. Michael shook his head “We do need to talk to you again Naomi, you haven’t exactly been straight with us” Michael said quietly as Cole joined them. “What do you mean?” Cole asked. Michael looked hesitant “I don’t want to get into the middle of your domestic issues, but Matthew told us everything” Michael admitted as both Naomi and Cole stared at him in confusion. “Every word that comes out of that man’s mouth is a lie” Naomi snapped. “What has he said?” Cole asked sharply. “He told us about the affair Naomi” Michael informed. Naomi gasped and shook her head “Unbelievable” Naomi looked towards Cole in shock “Naomi hasn’t been having an affair Michael, whatever this is all about, it’s not about an affair” Cole maintained. “I’ll leave you too it” Michael and Heather excused themselves. Naomi stared at Cole “I’m not crazy Cole and neither is Ava. That man is capable of anything, please tell me you believe me, please tell me that you believe that Matthew is the one who’s been tormenting our family for all this time” Naomi pleaded as Cole was unable to speak.

Kyle stood in Matthew’s darkened empty living room and stared at the framed photographs of Matthew and Olivia that were on the shelf. He walked towards them and stared at them angrily. He picked them up one by one and threw them to the ground. Losing his tempter, Kyle continued to lash out at Matthew’s belongings. Moving into the bedroom, Kyle opened the wardrobe and threw Matthew’s expensive suits out onto the floor, emptying boxes until he came across a plastic bag hidden at the back of the wardrobe. Kyle emptied the bag onto the floor and out fell a watch. Kyle stared at it in recognition, he picked it up and turned it over and read the engraving. ‘All my love, K x x’ Kyle stared at the watch as he took in the knowledge that the watch belonged to his late foster father Patrick Hale. Looking around the chaos he created, Kyle stood up and pocketed the watch. Meanwhile, outside the Crown and Horseshoe, Cole and Naomi came face to face with Matthew. Naomi stared at him in disgust “How dare you! You know full well I would never ever go near you again” Naomi lashed out “Leave it Naomi” Cole demanded and tried to lead his wife away. “Making out Olivia committed suicide because we were having an affair, you’re disgusting…vile excuse of a man” Naomi shouted. “I didn’t want you to find out this way Cole” Matthew said, but before he could say anything else Cole floored him with a punch. Holding his hand to his lip, Matthew looked up at the Donovan’s. “You will pay for everything you have put my family through” Cole warned as they walked away leaving Matthew nursing his bleeding lip on the ground

3x19: 'She's gone all Stepford Wife on you then' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Seventy Seven “Good morning” Sophia Faraday smiled brightly as she passed her estranged husband Steven who was yawning as he made his way to the bathroom in his father’s house. “Get a move on Steven, we have loads to do today” Sophia encouraged as she raced down the stairs carrying a box full of daughter Mia’s belongings from her bedroom. “I know I said an early start and all Soph, but it’s only just gone seven” Steven tried to reason. “If I remember correctly, the terms and conditions of you staying in the spare room last night was so we could make an early start of moving Mia’s bedroom downstairs” Sophia reminded him. “Terms and conditions, and they say romance is dead” Steven muttered with a flirty tone. “I remember a time when you waking me up at seven in the morning meant something entirely different” Steven teased light-heartedly, but an awkward silence followed as the former couple struggled to know what to say next. Steven felt a familiar pang of guilt as he thought about his affair with Michelle Fox which led to the end of his marriage. Sophia sighed and tried to smile “Come on Mr Muscle, make yourself useful and move those drawers” Sophia said as Steven returned her uneasy smile.

Detective Sgt Michael Connor stood at the window in his office as he watched his wife Heather lock her car and walk towards the entrance to the Canvey Island Police Station. He turned around and closed the file that was lying scattered over his desk. A few minutes later, Heather was stood in the doorway, the lost look in her eye that Michael had become used to seeing since their sixteen year old daughter Vicki disappeared without a trace with her boyfriend Luke Campbell. Wordlessly, Heather moved into Michael’s arms and breathed in his comfort “Please tell me you have some news” Heather pleaded. Michael stepped backwards and remained silent “Michael” Heather pushed. Michael picked up the file that was on his desk and gave it to Heather “A friend at the Met sent this over this morning” Michael began to explain as Heather read the first page. “Luke is a known associate of Rick Osbourne” Michael said. “Oh my God” Heather gasped as she read the detail about Rick “Drugs trafficking, prostitution…” Heather whispered in shock. “Osbourne runs the biggest prostitution racket in London” Michael admitted. “So why the hell is he still walking the street?” Heather snapped. “There’s never been enough evidence to convict and no one’s ever been able to testify against him” Michael explained. Heather held her hand to her mouth as though she was about to be sick “So you’re telling me our little girl…” Michael rushed to Heather as she began to break down “I promise you Heather, I’ll get our daughter back” Michael promised as he held onto his wife.

“You look more addled than I am” Katherine Lavery acknowledged as her boss and friend Duncan Faraday joined her at the Last Minute Supermarket. “Mix up your fruit and veg again” Katherine joked. “Sorry, I’m a little out of sorts today. Steven and Sophia are renovating the house to make it more wheelchair accessible…you know, for Mia coming home” Duncan explained. “Oh Duncan, I’m sorry, I wouldn’t have…” Katherine let her sentence trail off before telling Duncan that the pricing gun was out of tags. Duncan laughed as Katherine glanced at him in confusion “What?” She asked as Duncan shrugged “The normality of it all, when did our lives become all about fruit and pricing guns?” Duncan mused. A silence fell over the pair as they both thought about what their families were going through. “Are you nervous about Mia coming home?” Katherine asked, breaking the silence. “I guess, I haven’t really thought about it to be honest. I’m nervous for Steven and Sophia, they have all been through so much recently, but it looks like they might finally be turning a corner. I just hope the custody hearing tomorrow doesn’t change that” Duncan tried to sound positive. Katherine stared into space and tried to subtlety brush away the tear that had formed in her eye. “Katherine” Duncan noticed Katherine “I know something’s been bothering you, I wish you could talk to me” Duncan pressed “We’ve been friends a long time” He said. Katherine smiled “Longer than we both would like to admit” She joked. “You can tell me Katherine, I can help” Duncan offered. Katherine took a deep breath “It’s Siobhan” She began “She’s been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis” Katherine admitted, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders. “Oh Katherine” Duncan sighed and pulled Katherine closer to him “Please Duncan, you can’t tell anyone. Siobhan’s not ready for anyone to know.” Katherine pleaded. “I promise you Katherine, this stays between us.”

As he walked along the beach, Kyle Campbell aggressively kicked the sand in the air. He turned around and looked back towards the town. He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out the watch that had belonged to his deceased foster father Patrick Hale. Kyle fought back his tears as he screamed out loud. From the top of the beach, Kyle’s twin sister Molly jogged towards him “Kyle, are you okay?” Molly asked “You left early this morning” She said, but Kyle remained silent as Molly’s phone began to ring. Molly looked at her boyfriend Drew’s name on the screen and then looked up at her brother. “Please talk to me Kyle” Molly pressed. “Answer your phone Mol” Kyle snapped. “Kyle, please wait” Molly called out to Kyle as he tried to walk off. “Is this to do with Vicki?” She questioned. Kyle shook his head in frustration “Not everything has to do with that stupid little bitch” Kyle lashed out as he stormed off. Meanwhile, at Patrick’s Place, a nervous Matthew Fitzgerald made his way inside “Kayla” He spoke softly. Café owner Kayla Macey smiled as she turned to face Matthew “That for me?” She asked as Matthew handed her a single red rose. “I was hoping that you would join me later at Faraday’s…for a meal or something” Matthew stammered. “Like a date?” Kayla teased. Matthew shrugged “You could call it a date…if you like” Matthew said ”Matthew Fitzgerald are you nervous?” Kayla laughed “I guess I’d better put you out of your misery, I would love to join you for dinner” Kayla smiled as she kissed Matthew on the cheek.

In the Crown and Horseshoe Josh Connor sat in the corner reading over an article he had just finished about the new menu at the pub, he rolled his eyes, wishing he could write about something juicier. However, his train of thought was interrupted as his new girlfriend Nicki Grant bounced into the pub excitedly. “So you’re gonna buy me a drink to celebrate?” She questioned as she sat down next to him. “What are we celebrating?” Josh asked curiously. “I found this amazing deal online, five nights in a four star hotel in Tenerife” Nicki explained. “I didn’t realise you were going away” Josh said surprised. “I need a week on the beach and a decent tan, this fake stuff always looks so…fake” Nicki rambled “So what do you say?” She added. Josh stared at Nicki for a moment in confusion “What do I say about what?” He asked. “Well, can I book it?” Before Josh could answer, Nicki’s friend and flatmate Chloe Charles appeared with Josh’s pint “Why do you look you’ve just won the Euro Millions or something?” Chloe teased. “Josh is taking me on holiday” Nicki blurted out. “Really?” Chloe questioned as she took in the bemused look on Josh’s face. “Check this out” Nicki said excitedly showing Chloe the hotel on her iPhone. Josh excused himself and made his way towards the bar where he found Harry Campbell sipping on his pint “I have to do it today” He whispered “She’s booking us a holiday, she’s gonna have us shopping for baby clothes by Christmas if I’m not careful” Josh ranted as Harry sat there quite amused
At the Crown and Horseshoe, Duncan was stood at the bar staring into space thinking of his friend Katherine’s confession. Duncan failed to notice his own daughter Lindsay standing in front of him. “Dad” Lindsay called out once again. “Sorry darling, I was a million miles away” Duncan replied. “Somewhere sunny I hope” Lindsay joked, but Duncan didn’t smile “Everything okay Dad?” Lindsay asked. “I was just thinking about Katherine” Duncan admitted “She is one of the most sincere, kindest people that I know and she doesn’t deserve half of what gets thrown at her. I wish, I just wish…” Duncan paused. “You just wish you could tell her how you feel” Lindsay finished her father’s sentence as he stared at her in confusion “Oh come on Dad, everyone can see it. Katherine’s been in love with you since…well for a long time and you clearly feel the same. You have to tell her Dad, tell her how you feel” Lindsay pressed as the light bulb above Duncan’s head finally switched on.

“Would madam care for another glass of wine?” Matthew laughed as Kayla lifted her empty glass in response “Is everything okay with your meal?” Restaurant Manager Siobhan Spencer asked politely. Kayla and Matthew both thanked Siobhan at the same time. Siobhan walked back over to the counter where father and son Cole and Noah Donovan had arrived to collect their takeaway meal. “Cheers for this Dad, Megan’s been looking forward to a break from the kitchen all week. She’s taking this wife thing a bit too seriously” Noah laughed. “She’s gone all Stepford Wife on you then” Cole teased as Kyle barged past them causing Noah to fall against Cole “Watch it” Noah slammed. Kyle angrily approached Kayla and Matthew’s table. “Kayla, I need to talk to you in private, away from him” Kyle snarled towards Matthew. “Mind your manners” Kayla warned as she apologised to Matthew. “Don’t apologise to him” Kyle snapped. “Watch it son” Matthew barked as he stood up from the table. “Don’t you call me that! Don’t you dare” Kyle lashed out “Patrick was the closest thing I had to a Dad…” Kyle shouted as Siobhan looked on with sympathy. Kayla looked at Matthew apologetically “I should take him home, he’s obviously upset” Kayla reasoned and apologised for Kyle’s behaviour. “Don’t apologise for me, especially to him” Kyle snapped “He doesn’t deserve your respect; he doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as you” Kayla berated Kyle for his rudeness and made it clear that she had a right to move on with her life “Who I choose to do that with is my own business” Kayla maintained. “Please Kayla you have to listen to me” Kyle begged. “I don’t know what I’ve done to you Kyle, but…” Matthew reached to touch Kyle’s arm, but Kyle snapped and punched him “You killed him, you killed Patrick!” Kyle blurted out as the restaurant became quiet. Matthew looked around at everyone staring at him “The boy’s mad with grief” Matthew defended himself as Kayla stared at Kyle in disbelief. Kayla tearfully moved towards Kyle and slapped him across the face “How dare you!” She lashed out “I’m ashamed of you and Patrick would be too” Kayla shouted in anger “You did it! Kyle shouted towards Matthew “I know what you did, you killed Patrick and I’ll make sure you pay” Kyle spat.

Chloe lay with her boyfriend Harry on the sofa as they watched Chloe’s Walking Dead box set, she sat up and offered to make Harry a hot chocolate “Whipped cream?” Chloe asked. “You know I never say no to whipped cream” Harry answered teasingly “I meant for the hot chocolate” Chloe laughed and playfully hit Harry on the shoulder. He laughed and pulled her closer, kissing her on the lips. “Hot chocolate with the full works” Harry smiled as Chloe stood up. A few minutes later, Josh walked into the living room and sat down next to Harry “Have you told her yet?” Harry questioned “I’m waiting for the right moment” Josh answered defensively. Harry raised an eyebrow “It’s like a plaster, it’s better to pull it off quickly” Harry advised as he offered to get Josh a beer to calm his nerves. Harry walked into the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Chloe’s waist “Ooh careful Harry, Chloe might get the wrong idea” Harry backed off quickly as he took in Nicki’s voice. “Your hair” Chloe said as she appeared in the kitchen doorway. Harry was stunned as his took in Nicki’s new red hair. Nicki smiled brightly “I know right, red suits me so much better…oh is that for Josh?” Nicki asked and took the beer from Harry who was still speechless. As Nicki disappeared, Harry turned to Chloe “Don’t say a word” Chloe said. “But…Chlo, she’s dyed her hair the same as yours, you can’t tell me that’s not weird” Harry pressed “Lots of women have red hair Harry, I don’t own the exclusive right to it” Chloe defended as she carried on making their hot chocolates. Meanwhile, at the Connor house Heather and Michael sat silently at the dinner table with their son Jake. “I’m not a kid anymore, I know something bad has happened” Jake broke the silence “Vicki’s in trouble isn’t she?” Jake asked. Heather looked at her son with tears in her eyes and then looked towards Michael “I’m not going to lie to you Jake, she is in trouble, but I don’t want you to worry, either of you, I am going to find Vicki and I’m going to bring her home where she belongs” Michael promised. “Everything will be okay.”

At the beach, Kyle furiously kicked the bench as he was approached by Cole and his wife Naomi. Cole tried to calm him down but Kyle was fuming “I’m not lying, he murdered Patrick and he’s gonna pay” Kyle ranted. “Kyle, Kyle, it’s okay” Naomi tried to soothe Kyle “We believe you Kyle” Naomi said as she led Kyle to sit down on the bench. Cole sat on the other side of Kyle as Naomi put her arm around him “I know how upset you must feel right now, but you need to talk to us” Naomi pressed. “Tell us everything you know” Cole said. Kyle took a deep breath and pulled out Patrick’s watch “I found this in his flat, it was Patrick’s and there’s blood on it” Cole took the watch from Kyle and looked at it, he traced his fingers over the engraving from Kayla. “I don’t understand why Matthew would…it’s me he wants to hurt” Naomi mused. “They were mates weren’t they? Maybe Patrick found out something” Kyle stared at the couple “What if he hurts Kayla?” Kyle panicked. “He won’t, we’ll make sure of it” Cole promised. Naomi stood up emotionally “You know what this means Cole, he’s capable of anything…it means that he’s capable of murder” Naomi began to break down “He killed my sister, I know it” Naomi said tearfully.

In his darkened flat in Portsmouth, Matthew began to tear the room apart in anger. He threw furniture from one side of the room to the other as he ranted about Kyle’s attack and accusations about Patrick’s death “He’s gonna ruin everything” Matthew shouted “I never meant for it to happen, Patrick was never meant to die” Matthew said emotionally “It was an accident” He repeated over and over. As the scene pans, in the corner of a room a terrified shell of a woman lay bound to a metal pipe, Olivia Fitzgerald closed her eyes tightly as her husband continued to destroy everything in his sight.

3x20: 'The fat lady hasn't sung yet and I have no interest serenading you today' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Seventy Eight The mood was sombre in the Macey house as Kayla Macey prepared breakfast for herself. As she waited for the kettle to boil, her business partner Chrissie Campbell and her wife Jay Willis arrived at the front door “I’m not in the mood for an argument Chrissie” Kayla said as the couple followed her into the kitchen. “I don’t want one either, but Kyle’s really upset” Chrissie admitted as she explained that Kyle spent the night on their sofa. “I’m upset too Chrissie, he had no right to say what he did” Kayla scowled as she thought back to foster son Kyle’s outburst against Matthew Fitzgerald. “Kyle’s not malicious, he’s not trying to hurt you Kayla” Jay defended her stepson. “You’ve seen how much he’s settled since moving here, he’s a good boy Kayla and he adores you, he would never want to hurt you” Chrissie reasoned. “He accused an innocent man of murder” Kayla pointed out. “Maybe you should hear him out, listen to what he has to say” Chrissie begged. “No, what he’s saying…it’s ridiculous. Matthew is a good man, who has been through hell recently. He doesn’t deserve what Kyle has done, Matthew has never done anything to him” Kayla ranted. “Except maybe kill his foster father” Jay snapped. “How can you be so flippant, this is serious” Kayla snapped causing Chrissie to step in between the women “I’m being flippant? How well do you really know Matthew? You’re taking his word over your own foster son, taking his word over evidence…actual physical evidence” Jay defended. “Evidence? What evidence?” Kayla questioned. “Patrick’s watch” Kyle’s voice echoed from the kitchen doorway. “He had Patrick’s watch” Kyle tried to explain but Kayla cut him off “I think you should leave” Kayla said coldly “All of you, you should leave” Kayla sighed as she walked past Chrissie, Jay and Kyle.

Cole Donovan watched as his wife Naomi paced the kitchen “That man will stop at nothing” Naomi ranted “I let this happen, I let everyone believe I was crazy when I knew…I knew all along it was him” Naomi shook her head as Cole stood up and pulled her close to him “I should have believed you Naomi, I’m so sorry” Cole apologised “But we know what he’s capable now and the police will deal with him” Cole tried to reassure his wife, but Naomi pulled away “Will they? The man’s a compulsive liar, a good one at that. What if I never find out what happened to my sister?” Naomi questioned tearfully. The couple were interrupted by the sound of the front door, Naomi took a deep breath as she let in detective Michael Connor. Michael awkwardly followed Cole and Naomi into the living room “Tea?” Cole offered, but Michael declined. “The watch isn’t enough” Michael admitted “We fast tracked it through forensics and matched the blood on the watch to Patrick Hale, but there’s nothing tying it to Matthew” Michael explained “Except for it being found in his flat” Cole pointed out. Michael hesitated “We only have Kyle Campbell’s word for that and with his record…well he’s not exactly reliable” Michael said. Naomi shook her head in distress “I don’t believe this, he’s like the Teflon man, nothing ever sticks” Naomi ranted. “The British Police Service at its best” Naomi stormed out of the room in anger “She needs answers, Matthew’s taken too much from us already, we need to know what happened to Olivia.” Cole pleaded as Michael nodded.

“Good morning Mrs Faraday” Alex Ellison smiled as Sophia Faraday made her way towards her daughter Mia’s room. “You make me sound really old” Sophia joked as she greeted Alex. Alex and Sophia made small talk as they hovered outside Mia’s room, inside; Mia sat brushing her hair as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Mia sighed as she heard her phone go off, picking it up she began to read the Whatsapp message from her friend Molly Campbell. Before she could finish reading it, Mia received a Snapchat picture of Molly with their friends Anthony Spencer and Tate Yorke, all smiling with the tagline ‘Welcome home Mia’ written across the picture. Mia put the phone down on the dressing table and continued to brush her hair. “Morning sweetie” Sophia smiled as she walked over and kissed Mia on the forehead. Sophia began to explain how they’ve turned her grandfather Duncan’s office into a bedroom for her, Mia tugged on her hair aggressively “I think if you brush it anymore sweetheart it’ll fall out” Sophia said softly as she prised the hairbrush out of Mia’s hand. Sophia began to pack Mia’s things into a duffel bag “Mum, can you stop please?” Mia whispered loudly “What if I stayed here? Just a bit longer, I mean I still need physio and I like it here…I mean another few weeks, what do you think?” Mia rambled nervously. As the anxiety built up again, Mia reached for her hairbrush, but Sophia clasped her daughter’s hand in hers. “I would move heaven and earth if I thought you needed to stay here. I would fight and argue and push and shove, I would do anything for you, you’re my little girl. I know you must be scared of this strange new world you live in, I can’t even begin to understand, but it’s still your home Mia. It may have changed a little, but it’s still the same home you grew up in” Sophia encouraged. “I’m frightened” Mia confessed. “Do you see this” Sophia said as she held up her hand revealing her palm “This is at your back always. I am here for you, I am right behind you. If ever you need to lean on it, I'm here. You don't need to be scared. You're coming home” smiled Sophia as she and Mia hugged.

“Dad can you put that away please” Steven Faraday nervously ordered his father Duncan as he left a message for his friend Katherine Lavery. “Please give me a call back when you can Katherine, I need to talk to you” Duncan said. Steven and Duncan sat down outside the courtroom and went through the process once again with Steven’s solicitor. Steven sighed as David and Eileen Fields made their way past “Everything will be fine David, I was talking to your Aunty Evie this morning and she consulted the tea leaves. She said you’ve nothing to worry about, although she did say that about Phillip Schofield representing Ireland in the Eurovision too” Eileen muttered as she fixed David’s tie “Stop fussing” David ordered. As Eileen stepped backwards, David stumbled forwards “I told you not to drink last night” Eileen whispered. “You may only need a hot bath and scented candles to calm your nerves, but I needed something stronger” David barked not noticing Steven approaching. Steven held out his hand towards David “There are no winners today David, but for the record I have no hard feelings towards you or the fight you’ve put up” Steven offered. As David clenched his fists, Eileen stepped forwards “The fat lady hasn’t sung yet and I’ve no interest in serenading you today. The fights not over yet Steven, we’ll see you inside” Eileen slammed as she moved David towards the courtroom.

Naomi slowly pulled up at the corner of the street as her daughter Ava sat next to her “Are you sure this is a good idea Mum?” Ava questioned as they watched Matthew Fitzgerald get out of his own car and let himself into an unfamiliar flat in Portsmouth “The police are about as much use as your dad is in the kitchen, I won’t sit around and wait for them to pull my sister’s body out of the water.” Naomi spat bitterly. “Do you really think he killed Olivia?” Ava questioned with a tremble in her voice. Naomi stared out the window “I believe that he killed Patrick and that he’s more than capable of killing again.” Meanwhile, inside Matthew’s flat, he sat at his laptop and searched for flights to Portugal. “I’m thirsty” Olivia Fitzgerald croaked from the corner of the room. Matthew ignore his distressed wife “Dammit Matthew, you can’t keep me like this forever” Olivia snapped. “I don’t plan on it” Matthew replied menacingly. “Please just let me go home” Olivia pleaded tearfully “Please Matthew, if you ever loved me even just a little bit, please just let me go.” Matthew tried to ignore the sound of Olivia crying, but he looked up and felt a pang of guilt as he took in the sight of the woman he married. “I did try” Matthew muttered. Olivia looked up, but remained silent. “I did try to love you Liv, there were times that I thought we could do it, have a normal life” Matthew sighed. “It’s not too late” Olivia said suddenly. “What?” Matthew frowned. “For us, it’s not too late. We could start again somewhere new, where no one knows us” Olivia suggested. “We could start a family of our own.” Anger flashed before Matthew’s eyes at Olivia’s suggestion, he stood up and hit Olivia hard across the face “Typical Olivia, selfish bitch. You think you can replace my family like one of your designer handbags.” Matthew lashed out “I’ll tell you one thing, you could never live up to Grace. I was thinking of her every single time I kissed you and when I made love to you, I was pretending it was her every time” Matthew spat viciously becoming more and more unhinged.
Steven and Duncan sat opposite David and Eileen in the court room “Having taken into account the evidence presented from both sides, I have reached a decision” Judge Wall confirmed. As Eileen clutched hold of David’s hand, Steven prepared himself. Judge Wall spoke slowly and calmly as he explained that the case wasn’t easy and that he could understand that hard it has been for both David and Steven. “I have decided to award custody of Alfie Fields to his biological father Steven Faraday” Judge Wall revealed. Eileen cried out while David slammed his fist on the table “No you can’t, please. He’s my son, you bastard Faraday, I won’t let you take my son away from me” David sobbed angrily as Eileen begged her son to stop. “Order, order please. Mr Fields remember where you are, now take your seat!” Judge Wall demanded as he explained that Steven can collect Alfie from David that day. “Oh God, please no, please not today. Give us time to say goodbye” Eileen pleaded. “He’s our boy, we can’t just hand him over” David begged. The emotion overtook Duncan as he struggled to see Eileen and David both crumble.

Ava softly hit Naomi on the arm as she saw Matthew leave the flat “He’s going” Ava whispered. “What do we do now?” She questioned. Naomi hesitated “I don’t know, this isn’t an episode of Midsomer” Naomi snapped, but quickly apologised. Naomi got out of the car and began to walk towards the flat; Ava followed “Where are you going?” She asked. “I want answers and I’d put money of there being some in that flat” Naomi said. “You can’t break in Mum, you’ll end up getting arrested” Ava argued. “Not if you wait outside and keep watch” She replied. “Most girls go shopping with their Mum, you take me on a crime spree” Ava sighed. “Please Ava, I’m doing this for Liv” Naomi said emotionally. Naomi made her way around the back of the flat and soon found an unlocked window. Naomi froze as she felt a hand on her “You scared the hell out of me, what are you doing?” Naomi said breathlessly “I couldn’t let you do it on your own” Ava replied. “No Ava, I’m not putting you at risk too” Naomi argued, but Ava refused to move. Naomi and Ava both held their breath as they crept around the darkened flat, Naomi gasped as she walked into the living room to be met with hundreds of photographs of her and her family “Oh my God” She whispered. “He’s sick” Ava muttered. Behind the sofa, Ava could make out a shoe that was too familiar, she cupped her mouth with her hand as she felt her stomach turn “Mum” She said emotionally. Naomi followed Ava’s line of sight and her breathing intensified as she walked closer “Olivia” Naomi gasped as she took in the sight of her sister tied to a pipe with tape covering her mouth. Naomi dived to Olivia’s side and ripped off the tape “Naomi” Olivia cried as the sister’s embraced. “I thought you were dead” Naomi cried as she and Ava tried to loosen the rope binding Olivia. “Not yet” A sinister voice echoed from the doorway.

As the boat pulled into Canvey Island Harbour, Steven waved to his estranged wife Sophia and daughter Mia. “We’re home” Sophia smiled as Mia took in the view of the Island that she hadn’t seen for months “It feels good” Mia breathed in the sea air as Sophia asked one of the staff to help her with Mia’s wheelchair. “Here let me” Steven shouted as he jogged towards them. “Dad” Mia smiled as Steven hugged and kissed his teenage daughter. “It’s so good to see you” Steven said and then turned towards Sophia. “How was the journey? Are you tired or hungry? I can call Lindsay and tell her to have something ready, although she has been known to burn water” Steven joked. “Wait, how did it go today?” Sophia asked. “Yeah Dad, where’s Alfie?” Mia questioned. Steven broke into a big smile “Alfie’s coming home where he belongs” Steven revealed. “I’m going to pick him up tonight, I wanted to give David and Eileen some time to say goodbye first and of course, I wanted to see my girl” Steven held onto Mia’s hand. As Sophia and Mia congratulate him, Steven’s smile faltered as he thought about how he can take Alfie from David and Eileen as painlessly as possible.

“Dammit Naomi” Cole cursed as he listened to a voicemail from Naomi explaining that she and Ava had followed Matthew to a flat in Portsmouth. As Cole rushed towards his car, he crashed into Kyle who ranted about no one believing him about Patrick. “Not now Kyle” Cole snapped. “You’re as bad as the rest of them” Kyle lashed out, but Cole lost his temper and pinned Kyle to the car “My wife and daughter could be in trouble, I can’t deal with this right now” Cole released Kyle and got into the car. “What do you think you’re doing?” Cole demanded as Kyle got into the passenger seat “I’m coming with you” Cole sighed and without a word, he started the car. Meanwhile, in Matthew’s flat in Portsmouth, Naomi struggled as Matthew tied her up next to Ava and Olivia. She spat in Matthew’s face and he slapped her in response. “You won’t get away with this” Naomi ranted “I already have” Matthew sneered. “What do you want from me?” Naomi demanded “You’ve already ruined my life, I ended up in the nut house because of you” Naomi shouted emotionally “You think that makes up for killing my family” Matthew responded angrily as he pulled Naomi’s hair aggressively “I haven’t even started. I want you to feel how I felt when I lost my wife and my children, I want you to feel that loss” Matthew looked towards Ava and Olivia. He violently untied Olivia’s bind and threw her across the room “I want you to feel the same loss I did” Matthew’s eyes darkened as he walked towards Olivia with the rope.
*
Outside the flat, Cole pulled up “There’s Naomi’s car” He said to Kyle. The men rushed towards the front door of the flat, while at the back, Matthew made sure that the door was locked as he left. He stumbled towards the fence and violently vomited into the bush. Regaining his composure Matthew took one last look at the flat which had begun to fill up with smoke. “Goodbye Naomi” Matthew whispered as he left.

3x21: 'I'm taking a leap of faith' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Seventy Nine Stood in the back garden in the pouring rain, David Fields looked up to the sky. The stars twinkled above his head as he called out for his deceased fiancée Michelle Fox. “Michelle” David screamed out as the rain pounded down on top of him. Upstairs an emotional Eileen was packing up Alfie’s belongings when she began to giggle. Eileen turned towards her ‘grandson’ and smiled, but she turned away as the pain of what was about to happen dawned on her. Continuing to pack, Eileen failed to hear David walk into the room. “There’s my boy, my special little boy” David picked up Alfie and cradled him close as Eileen turned to face them. “David you’re soaking wet. Give me Alfie; he’ll get a cold…” Eileen began, but David warned Eileen to move back. “He’s my boy, not yours and not Faraday’s. He’s mine. Who gives that judge the right to take him, they can’t…He can’t take him, he can’t have him” David said as he pulled Alfie closer to him. Both David and Eileen were alarmed by the sound of the doorbell. Eileen wiped her tears and walked down to open the front door. “Eileen” Steven Faraday whispered softly. Eileen gulped and took a deep breath “Come in Steven” Eileen replied. “Please be gentle” Eileen said pleadingly as she rubbed Steven’s arm “Be ever so gentle.” David appeared holding Alfie “I can’t” David said emotionally as Alfie looked up at him. “Give him to me darling” Eileen whispered as she held out her arms to David. Alfie giggled and turned towards Eileen. “Come to Nana” Eileen’s voice broke as David handed over Alfie. “Oh God” David cried as he left the hallway. “You have to rub his back to get him off to sleep, but once he’s down you won’t hear a peep out of him til morning” Eileen tried to be strong, but her bravado fell once she handed Alfie over to Steven.

Naomi Donovan coughed violently as the smoke began to fill into her lungs, she screamed out for her sister Olivia who was unconscious in the corner of the room. Naomi tried to break free from the rope that was keeping her bound; she turned towards her daughter Ava who was struggling with her own ropes. Meanwhile, outside the flat Naomi’s husband Cole and teenager Kyle Campbell desperately tried to find a way in. Kyle reached towards the back door and leapt back from the heat, the men were alarmed to realise the building was on fire “Naomi” Cole screamed out in distress “Ava” Kyle tried to hold Cole back as he tried to kick through the door “My girls are in there, I won’t let him take them from me” Cole shouted as he pushed Kyle away. Upstairs, Ava coughed as she managed to loosen the ropes around her hands, breaking free; a weakened Ava tried to crawl towards Naomi. Reaching her mother, Ava was shaking as she struggled to untie Naomi “Liv” Naomi croaked “See if she’s…” Naomi pleaded as Ava nodded. Ava cried and coughed as she crawled towards Olivia’s lifeless body, but Ava couldn’t move any further and dropped to the floor, passing out from the smoke. “Ava” Naomi cried out as she begged her daughter to respond.

The air was cold with rain as Matthew Fitzgerald walked into Southampton Airport wheeling his suitcase behind him. Dressed to the nines in a smart suit, Matthew made his way to the bar as he tried to hide the anxiety he felt. Ordering a whisky, Matthew paid and quickly downed his drink. Ordering another, Matthew looked around the bar and caught the eye of a beautiful blonde lady. Matthew put a smile on his face and joined her at her table. “Meeting a beautiful woman at the airport, that’s how all the best love stories begin” Matthew smiled charmingly as she hung on his every word.

Kayla Macey stood at the window of her home thinking about the argument between her and her foster son Kyle. Kayla sighed as her business partner Chrissie Campbell ran from her car to the front door in the pouring rain. Kayla opened the door and beckoned Chrissie inside “It’s really coming down out there” Chrissie commented. “I’m sorry about earlier” Kayla apologised “I don’t want to fight with you or Jay” Kayla admitted as Chrissie agreed. “Where’s Kyle?” Chrissie asked. Kayla shrugged “I haven’t seen him since this morning” Kayla answered. Chrissie followed Kayla into the living room where she stood in front of the fireplace. Kayla joined her and stared at the photographs of her, Patrick and the twins. “He was my world Chrissie. You have to understand…how can I possibly even think that someone…someone I know, that he knew could…could kill him…I just can’t” Kayla reasoned. “And Matthew, I trust him Chrissie…I let myself…” Kayla let the sentence trail off as she thought about the night she spent with Matthew. “I’m an alcoholic and I’ve made some terrible decisions in my life, one of them now causing untold heartbreak for the Connor’s. And I used to be able to blame it all on the drink. I was a drunk, but now I can’t. I have to face every decision, be it wrong or right and I have to do it sober. But Kyle, Kyle adores you, he loves you Kayla. You’re his mother just as much as I am. Kyle, he would never lie to you, not about something like this” Chrissie sensed that Kayla was struggling and pulled her closer “I don’t believe Kyle is lying about Matthew. I’m so sorry Kayla” Chrissie whispered as Kayla began to cry.
*
“And it's no na never...raise up your skirts...” A drunken David sang while tapping his foot on the floor “And now for my next trick” David said as he got up and staggered towards the drink’s cabinet. Eileen stood at the sink and watched the rain battering against the window. “We’re out of whisky bar wench” David joked, but Eileen remained silent. “I am talking to you. Are you deaf as well as old” David laughed. “You think this is funny don’t you, well go on then, laugh because I can’t. I can’t laugh because I am devastated. You made me love him, you made me accept him and now he’s gone and all you can do is drink and laugh…well go on laugh because I’ve had enough” Eileen confessed emotionally. As Eileen’s words echoed in his head, David saw red and made his way towards his mother. David raised his fist and punched the wall behind Eileen causing her to scream out. As the emotion built, David began to cry and collapsed into his mother’s arms.

In the Crown and Horseshoe pub, the Faraday family were gathered together as Steven finally introduced baby Alfie as his son. As Steven’s sister Lindsay and niece Megan cooed over the little boy, Steven and his former brother in law Daniel talked about how different Steven’s life will be having a baby around again. Meanwhile, outside the pub Sophia Faraday stood next to her daughter Mia who nervously sat in her wheelchair. “Are you sure you’re ready for this? They’ll understand if you want to go home” Sophia asked softly. Mia hesitated “I can’t ditch my own party” Mia tried to joke, but Sophia could tell how anxious she felt. “I can do this” Mia confirmed and wheeled herself towards the door. The Faraday’s broke into applause as Mia greeted her family and friends. Mia was touched to see the banner made by her best friend Anthony Spencer “Nice wheels” Anthony smiled as he and his boyfriend Tate Yorke both kissed Mia on the cheek “Nice haircut” Mia laughed and then turned towards her friend Molly Campbell “You look so well Mia” Molly said kindly. “Thanks” Mia replied as she looked around “Where’s Kyle?” Mia asked wondering where he was as Molly then explained to Mia about the argument between Kyle and Kayla. Lindsay was stood behind the bar as she noticed Steven talking to Mia’s physio Sahira Jakra “They look they’re getting on well” Lindsay commented to former husband Daniel who rolled his eyes in amusement “Don’t you think you’ve done enough matchmaking for one weekend” Daniel teased “Speaking of your dad, where is he?” Daniel asked
Katherine Lavery caught sight of herself in the mirror as she raced down the stairs in her night gown and face pack to answer the front door. She tried to hide her surprise to find her friend Duncan Faraday standing in the rain on the doorstep. “Are you mad, it’s like storm season out there” Katherine said as she let Duncan in and took his coat. “I don’t care, I had to see you Katherine” Duncan reasoned. “Well, you’ve seen me now and what a sight I must be” Katherine said as she blushed. “You look beautiful” Duncan blurted out. Katherine laughed nervously and offered Duncan a cup of tea. “How did the hearing go?” Katherine asked. “Steven was granted custody” Duncan revealed. Katherine squealed and hugged Duncan tightly “I’m so pleased for you and Steven” Katherine smiled “I feel for poor David though, and Eileen” Katherine said softly. “Katherine” Duncan said. “Katherine, you have to listen to me. For years, you’ve been right there in front of me. You’ve been a friend, a colleague and I can’t believe I didn’t realise it before. I can’t believe that I didn’t realise that I was falling in love with you…until now. Katherine, I love you” Duncan confessed as Katherine stood with her mouth open in shock “Did you have any champagne before you came over here?” Katherine questioned. Duncan laughed “I’m not drunk Katherine, I’m taking a leap of faith because I believe we can have something special” Duncan smiled and reached towards Katherine “Are you sure about this Duncan?” Katherine asked nervously. “I have never more sure about anything in my life” Duncan leant forward and kissed Katherine tenderly on the lips.

Freeing herself, an exhausted Naomi tried to wake her daughter Ava, slowly opening her eyelids, Ava’s head felt heavy. Naomi pulled her daughter close to her “Please stay awake Ava” Naomi pleaded “I’m too tired” Ava whispered and closed her eyes once again. Naomi cried and she dragged Ava towards the door where Olivia lay completely unconscious. Just as Naomi stood to try and open the door, a huge bang and an explosion ripped through the room. Naomi was knocked off her feet as she struggled to protect her daughter and sister from the falling debris. Downstairs, Cole jumped out of the way of the falling staircase “Get back” Cole shouted as Kyle was almost hit. With the fire raging out of control, Cole looked upstairs and shouted out Naomi’s name. Cole warned Kyle to stay where he was as Cole tried to climb over the broken staircase. Outside the fire brigade arrived just as the upstairs windows blew out as a second fire ball caused the windows to shatter. “We need to get out” Naomi pleaded for Ava to wake up. Cole burst through the door as he finally reached the girls. “Ava” Cole cried out breathlessly as he took in the sight of his daughter on the floor. Cradling his little girl, Cole tried to take her to safety. A weakened Naomi pulled Olivia across, but lost her strength as her breathing worsened. As Cole and Ava reached the landing, the entire staircase collapsed causing Cole to fall backwards with Ava in his arms. Outside, Kyle begged the firemen to help the Donovan’s. The fireman rushed to get the ladder up to the broken window, Cole appeared begging for help. As the fireman reached the top of the ladder, Cole pushed Ava out of the window into the arms of the fireman “Please save my daughter” Cole pleaded. Cole fell backwards as he turned to help Naomi lift Olivia next. Naomi burst into hysterical laughter “Naomi” Cole shouted trying to get his wife to focus “This isn’t the time to laugh” Cole said shocked. “The one time Olivia gets a fireman’s lift, she’s unconscious” Naomi’s hysterical laughter turned into a cry as Cole pulled her face towards him “Naomi, we’re nearly there” Cole pleaded and kissed Naomi roughly on the lips “We’re going to get through this” Cole promised and pulled Olivia with all his strength. Once outside the building, the paramedics took Cole, Naomi, Ava and Olivia to safety. Seconds later, the building was rocked by a huge explosion causing the building to collapse. There was an eerie silence as Naomi clung onto Cole, staring up at the burning building.

Following the crowd through the departure lounge, Matthew stared out of the window as he thought about his deceased wife Grace “My life begins today” He said to himself as he prepared to board his flight. Meanwhile, detective Michael Connor rushed with his colleagues through the airport as he searched the endless faces. Flashing his warrant card, Michael raced through passport control. Matthew smiled as he handed his boarding card to the flight attendant, but before he could board the plane, Matthew felt a hand on his arm. Turning around Matthew sighed as he came face to face with Michael. “Matthew Fitzgerald, I’m arresting you for attempted murder” Michael began breathlessly.

Eileen sat on the edge of her bed crying as she listened to her drunken son David once again singing at the top of his voice around the house. “David” Eileen said softly as she opened her bedroom door and made her way towards her son. “David darling, it’s time for bed come on” Eileen reasoned, but David told her to back off. “I’m celebrating” David slurred “I’m young, free and fertile. I can get someone else, I can have another child…Alfie who?” Eileen reeled from David’s cold words and raised her hand to slap her son. David, however caught Eileen’s hand “I ain’t that drunk old lady” David spat. “Look at you David, just look at yourself. If Michelle could see you now she’d turn in her grave” Eileen lashed out “You don’t say her name” David barked as he moved towards his mother. “But it’s true; you’re a drunk and a layabout. Your business is going under and you couldn’t care less. What judge in his right mind would have given Alfie over to you? You don’t deserve him” Eileen spat. David clenched his fist and punched Eileen with force across the face “You stupid bitch” David slammed as Eileen cowered on the ground holding her face “You made me do that, you made me” David stumbled drunkenly as he left the house while Eileen lay on the floor shaking.

Matthew lay with his head on a table as he heard the door open; he looked up to find Kayla stood staring at him with coldness in her eyes “Kayla” Matthew whispered as he stood up. The police officer ordered Matthew to sit down. “I had to tell Patrick’s parents that their son was murdered today” Kayla spoke bitterly “Explain that a man we believed to be a friend took his life and left him to die” Matthew closed his eyes tightly, flashing back to that moment when Patrick died. “Patrick was a good man, a kind man who just wanted to live his life and you took him from me” Kayla said emotionally “And then you wormed your way into my life and my bed, what was that? Did you get some sort of thrill out of it” Kayla questioned in disgust. Matthew once again stood up but Kayla backed away “I’m so sorry Kayla” Matthew pleaded, but Kayla spat in his face “You deserve to spend the rest of your life locked away” Kayla stormed out of the room in anger. Once outside she came face to face with her foster son Kyle, racing towards him she pulled him into a hug “I’m so sorry Kyle” She cried as they both broke down in each other’s arms.

A montage began as Mia sat with her baby brother in her arms, her mother Sophia watched her with pride. Duncan and Katherine walked hand in hand into the Crown and Horseshoe where they were greeted by Lindsay and Steven. Meanwhile, Eileen stood in the bathroom staring at her own reflection in the mirror, while downstairs her son David had returned and lay passed out on the sofa. At Southampton Hospital, Cole coughed as he and his son Noah stood by Ava’s bed, Cole stroked her hair as he promised that she would be okay. While in the next room, Naomi sat on a chair in her hospital gown, refusing to return to her own bed, she clung onto the hand of her sister Olivia who was connected to several machines. Suddenly, the room filled with loud alarms as Olivia’s heart flat lined. Naomi screamed for help and nurses and doctors rushed into the room. The scene faded to black as the doctors performed CPR on Olivia.

3x22: 'Honestly, it's not you it's me' | Written by Hannah & Joe | Episode Eighty The breeze was cold on Canvey Island now that October had begun to settle, Tate Yorke shivered as he changed the menu board outside the Crown and Horseshoe pub. While Canvey Lanes High Street was slowly beginning to wake up as Katherine Lavery opened up the Last Minute Supermarket, she glanced at her watch and shook her head as she realised that assistant Noah Donovan was late once again. Outside Kane Creations, Naomi Donovan stood with Chloe Charles staring at the closed sign on the door “Do you think she’ll ever be ready to come back?” Chloe questioned sadly, referring to her best friend Olivia Kane. Naomi sighed and shrugged “She won’t even set foot outside the house to put the bins out, she jumps at every little noise. He’s changed her and I’m scared I’ll never get my little sister back” Naomi sniffed. “Maybe she just needs more time; it’s only been a month since Matthew was arrested. It’s still a fresh wound” Chloe theorised. “How are you doing? Olivia wasn’t the only one trapped in that fire” Chloe asked Naomi. “I don’t even know anymore. I feel like all of this was my fault. I was the one who brought Matthew into our lives all those years ago, I’m responsible for the man he’s become” Naomi blamed herself. “You can’t say that, all of this, it was all him. He’s destroyed so many lives…at least he’s paying for it now” Chloe sighed as the women continued to stare at the closed Kane Creations.

It was a hectic morning for school teacher Steven Faraday as he rushed around trying to make sure that he had everything ready for his first Chemistry lesson at the same time as trying to get his baby son Alfie ready for the child-minder. “Alright mate, two secs” Steven puffed as Alfie began to cry for his breakfast. Meanwhile, at the Faraday house, Sophia Faraday was also preparing for the day in front of her. However, it was a much quieter affair than her former husband’s. Sophia sat at the breakfast table enjoying her steaming cup of coffee and freshly heated croissant. Sophia sat back and soaked up the calm. Back at Steven’s flat, there was a knock at the door as Steven tried to feed Alfie “Oh for flip’s sake” Steven barked as he put the bowl down on the table. Alfie immediately became fussy as Steven disappeared to the front door. “Steven Faraday?” The delivery man asked. Steven nodded and took the envelope the man held out towards him “Sign here please” The man demanded. As Steven opened the envelope, the scene cut to Sophia doing the same. Both Steven and Sophia read the documents carefully, both taking in the reality of what they meant. The end of their marriage. Alfie giggled as Steven looked up at his son; Steven smiled and took a deep breath, at last feeling like he had made the right decision for him and his family. The scene cut to Sophia, who was stood at the mantelpiece holding a frame with her wedding photograph inside. Sophia closed her eyes and thought about her marriage to Steven which ended once the truth about Steven’s affair with Michelle Fox and Alfie’s paternity was finally revealed. Sophia picked up the divorce papers once again and finally began to feel at ease to the new life she was about to begin. Sophia smiled softly and returned to the breakfast table to finish her cup of coffee.

In the flat above the Crown and Horseshoe pub, Megan Donovan and her husband Noah were having breakfast with Megan’s father Daniel Hastings and his partner Imogen Sandford “This really was a lovely surprise” Megan said, trying to hide the nerves in her voice. “Well, it is your first day at college babes, we’re all really proud of you” Noah enthused as he kissed Megan softly on the cheek. “This is a new beginning darling” Daniel said, while Imogen smiled “Best of luck love.” As the family prepared to eat, Megan pushed her plate away and covered her mouth “I’m gonna be sick” Megan squeals and rushes to the bathroom followed by Noah. “Bless her, she always did suffer with her nerves” Daniel commented. “I don’t suppose she’ll be wanting this now” Imogen reached across the table and emptied Megan’s plate onto her own. “I never thought I’d say this, but they really have made this whole marriage thing work” Daniel mused “I’d sworn off marriage after the divorce came through, but I’ve been thinking…maybe getting married isn’t such a bad thing after all” Daniel said as he stood up and kissed Imogen on the head. Beginning to cough, Imogen spat her toast into a napkin as she tried to comprehend Daniel’s clumsy hint.

Ava Donovan straightened her Aztec patterned skirt and walked into the huge hall of students ready to start at Portsmouth University. Ava made her way to the table labelled medicine and gave the young final year student her name “Donovan?” He questioned, looking at Ava carefully. “Yes, Ava Donovan” Ava repeated, feeling annoyed. A nearby student turned around and stared at Ava “Your picture was in the paper a few weeks ago” She said “You were in that fire…the one that psycho lawyer started” She continued. Ava took a few steps backwards as she felt everyone around her begin to stare, Ava’s face burned in humiliation. She was shaking as she struggled to make her way towards the doorway, finally out in the fresh air, Ava rushed back towards her car, desperate to feel safe once again.

Eileen Fields was sat on the sofa in the living room watching her typical trashy daytime television, Eileen jumped as she heard the front door slam. Eileen muted the television and instantly became tense. She stood up slowly as the footsteps reached the living room “Ma” David Fields’ voice broke the silence as Eileen struggled to hide the fear from her face. David smiled and reached his mother and gave her a peck on the cheek. “I didn’t think you were coming home for lunch” Eileen commented as her breathing became quicker. “I thought you could do with a pick me up” David smiled and handed Eileen a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates “Oh David” Eileen whispered. “I can’t stop; I’ve got loads of work on at the garage. Poor Anthony’s rushed off his feet and I’ve got to follow up on a few new contacts” David explained positively. Eileen moved towards her son and smiled “I’m so glad you’ve started to move on. It’s good to see you looking so positive” Eileen whispered softly. “You know how sorry I am for what happened. I’m better now Ma, I’m ready to move on and it’s all thanks to you” David said genuinely “I am so sorry” He added sincerely. “I know” Eileen whispered “Now, no more talk of the past. Off to work with you and I’ll make something nice for dinner.”
At the Last Minute Supermarket, Katherine and her partner Duncan Faraday playfully giggled as Duncan stamped Katherine with the pricing gun “Will you stop” Katherine laughed. “I thought you’d be much more pricy” He joked as Katherine grabbed another pricing gun from the counter and tried to stamp Duncan back. The couple stopped and stared into each other’s eyes, both smiling “I love you” Duncan whispered as Katherine leaned in to kiss him. “Love’s young dream” Katherine’s daughter Siobhan Spencer teased as she walked into the shop with her teenage daughter Emily. “Siobhan” Katherine gasped in embarrassment. Emily walked towards the magazine stand as Siobhan talked to Katherine and Duncan “Oh Mum, can I get Cosmo Girl? It’s the latest issue” Emily pointed towards the shelf. Siobhan laughed “I suppose so, since you did so well in your ballet exam” Siobhan agreed and tried to reach towards the shelf “Oh let me, you can’t be…” Duncan blurted out and quickly stopped as he noticed the expression on Katherine’s face. Siobhan’s face turned pale as she looked from Duncan to her mother “Emily wait outside please” Siobhan’s voice was cold. “But my magazine” Emily responded. “I said wait outside” Siobhan demanded. “You told him” Siobhan accused her mother, referring to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. “Siobhan…” Katherine began. “Your mother needed someone to talk to, Siobhan I promise I won’t say anything to anyone. But this doesn’t just affect you, you have to remember that” Duncan held onto Katherine’s hand. Siobhan just glared at her mother “How could you” Siobhan shook her head, feeling completely betrayed.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, barmaid Chloe was taking her break with her friend and flatmate Nicki Grant. They were talking about Olivia’s struggle to move on from her ordeal with Matthew. “I think you should just leave her to it” Nicki blurted out, she noticed the look on Chloe’s face “I didn’t mean that to sound as harsh as it came out, I just mean, give the girl some time” Nicki defended. “I understand what you mean” Chloe admitted “I’d better get back to work” She returned to the bar as Nicki’s boyfriend Josh Connor walked in. “You look tired babe, I think you could do with a night in and a massage” Nicki said seductively as Josh sat down next to her. “Not tonight” He muttered “I’m helping my Dad give out some new leaflets about Vicki” Josh explained. “Maybe after, Chloe’s staying at Harry’s tonight so we’ll have the whole flat to ourselves. Just think of all the things we can do” Nicki teased “It’ll get us used to having our own place” Nicki added. Josh’s eyes narrowed as watched Nicki on her phone. “Nicki” Josh began “This isn’t working” Nicki looked up at Josh in confusion. “I don’t understand” Nicki said quietly. “I’m not the right guy for you Nicki, you want so much more than I can give” Josh tried to explain “I can change” Nicki said, her voice cracking. “No, Nicki, I know how cliché this sounds, but honestly, it’s not you it’s me” Josh said, cringing at the sentence “I can’t believe you just said that” Nicki shook her head in disbelief. Nicki stood up in anger and begun to leave, however she stopped and turned back towards Josh. She picked up his pint and poured it over his head “That’s for letting me believe you were a decent guy” Nicki lashed out.

Mia Faraday watched her mother sing as she cleaned out the paperwork in the cabinet, her friend Alex Ellison sat opposite. “I’m going to put the dinner on, Alex are you staying? It’s curry, my speciality” Sophia asked. Alex smiled and agreed. Sophia soon disappeared, leaving Mia and Alex alone. “So how are you really coping with your parent’s divorce?” Alex asked. “I’m actually okay about it, I thought I would be really upset. But Mum seems to have this new positive attitude and now I really think it’s for the best” Mia explained as she wheeled her wheelchair over so she was closer to Alex “Thank you Alex, you’ve been a good friend to me through all this” She smiled. “I was kinda hoping I was more” Alex said nervously. Mia broke into a smile, her stomach felt as though it had butterflies. “I think I would like that” Mia replied. Both Mia and Alex moved in closer to each other and softly kissed on the lips. After a minute, they both smiled as they pulled away “Does this mean I can call you my girlfriend now?” Alex asked happily.

Standing on the edge of the beach, Siobhan watched as the day reached its end. With the sun setting, Siobhan was pondering the effects of her diagnosis. Moving her hands backwards and forwards, she stared at them. She began to wiggle her fingers, however she was disturbed by footsteps behind her “Siobhan” Katherine whispered. “What do you want?” Siobhan asked, clapping her hands together. “Were your hands shaking again?” Katherine inquired softly. “I just overdid things did and well…stress doesn’t help either” Siobhan replied. Katherine sat down next to Siobhan and took her hand “I never meant to cause you any more stress. Duncan found me in quite a state and before I knew it, I was confiding in him. It helped me, more than I realised it would. It helps to talk and it helps when people know” Katherine advised. “What are you trying to say?” Siobhan asked, almost in disbelief. “I think it’s time Siobhan. It’s time to talk to the kids, you can’t hide it anymore, it’s not fair. It’s time darling…” Katherine’s words echoed as Siobhan’s tears began to flow. “Oh Mum” Siobhan said sadly as Katherine comforted her daughter.

A montage began as Chloe poured two glasses of red wine; she carried them into the living room and handed one glass to Nicki who began to confide in Chloe about her break up with Josh. At the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel handed daughter Megan a glass of champagne to celebrate her first day at college. At the Faraday house, Sophia shared dinner with her daughter Mia and her boyfriend Alex, while Steven sat in his flat, hovering over Alfie’s cot, watching his little boy sleep. Eileen found the garage empty at the end of the evening, she sighed in disappointment as she spotted an empty bottle of whisky tucked in between two folders. At the Spencer house, Siobhan stood at the living room door as she watched her children Anthony and Emily arguing about whose turn it was on the Xbox. Meanwhile, at the Donovan’s, Naomi stood outside Olivia’s bedroom door, hesitant to go in while in Ava’s bedroom, Ava lay on her bed holding a towel against her arm. The moonlight caught the towel and the red blood glistened as Ava felt the release.

3x23: 'I was rocking the snakebite and downing the tequilas long before you were even a twinkle in your father's eye' | Written by Joe | Episode Eighty One The dark evenings were drawing in fast on Canvey Island as the October nights settled into their pattern. The moon was bright as it shone over the homes of the local residents. In one home, the Spencer household, Siobhan Spencer was preparing to deliver some painful news to her family. She paced her bedroom floor, she looked into the mirror occasionally but she couldn’t quite meet her own eyes. Her mind was racing with ways of telling her children that she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. “I can do this” Siobhan repeated in her head before shaking her head and thinking that she wasn’t a slogan for a student union campaign. The deathly silence in the room was disturbed by a gentle knock on the door. “Can I come in?” Katherine Lavery, Siobhan’s mother softly asked. “Of course” Siobhan tried to smile. Katherine and Siobhan both sat down on her bed “My brave girl” Katherine began, but Siobhan put her hand up to stop her mother from continuing. “Please don’t” Siobhan paused “I’m barely holding it together as it is.” Katherine pulled Siobhan closer and embraced her supportively. “However old you are, you will always be my little girl” Katherine comforted.

Over at the flat of Chloe Charles, the barmaid and her flatmate Nicki Grant were curled up on the sofa watching Titanic. “Why can’t I find a guy like Jack?” Nicki sniffed as she still reeled from her break up with Josh Connor. “What, willing to freeze to death for you…it only happens in the movies” Chloe joked “I know Josh went cold on you, but that would be taking it a bit too far” Chloe teased as Nicki giggled and then turned towards Chloe “I mean, I want a guy who loves me, who’d do anything for me, what’s wrong with me?” Nicki exhaled. Chloe poured Nicki another glass of wine and held it out towards her. “Wine makes everything better, the Bible according to Olivia Kane” Chloe stated. At the mention of Olivia’s name, Nicki grimaced momentarily before raising her glass. “I guess we can’t all be as lucky as you” Nicki said as Chloe thought about her own boyfriend Harry Campbell. “I guess Harry is the exception to the rule, but can you really ever trust a man again…after what happened to us” Nicki confided as Chloe’s expression became pained, not wanting to remember the brutal rape she suffered a year before.

It was a busy evening at the Crown and Horseshoe as barman Tate Yorke struggled to serve the gathering customers. Tate tried to smile as he called out to a distracted Imogen Sandford, he sighed as he looked at all the customers waiting to be served. “Need a hand?” Eileen Fields offered as she sat at the bar nursing a G&T. “Gladly, but have you ever worked in a pub before?” Tate asked. “Sweetie, I was rocking the Snakebite and downing the Tequila’s long before you were even a twinkle in your father’s eye” Eileen stated confidently as she took the helm behind the bar. “Now ladies and gentlemen, who’s next?” Meanwhile, Imogen escaped the bar and made her way into the back room to answer her mobile phone “How the hell did you get this number?” Imogen demanded. A worried Imogen paced around the room as she tried to fight her fear and upset “You keep away from me and….you just keep away or so help me” Imogen paused “What?” She exhaled “You keep away from him. I’m warning you, if you open your mouth…” Imogen stopped as she realised the line had gone dead at the other end. As she made her way back out towards the bar, she came face to face with a suspicious Tate “Everything okay?” He asked.

At the Connor home, Heather and Michael Connor were arguing as Heather followed her husband out into the hallway. “What does this lead mean?” Heather begged as she grabbed hold of her coat, however Michael stopped her. “I think it’s for the best if I go” Michael said softly. “But she’s my daughter; I have every right to go…” Heather let her sentence off as she realised that significance of her words. “This is only a lead, I just want to make sure before you get your hopes up. If it’s Vicki, then I will call you and come for you. I promise you Heather, we will bring our daughter home together” Michael pulled Heather close to him and kissed her strongly on the lips. Heather stood at the front door as she watched her husband get into his car and leave for London. As she began to cry, Heather felt arms around her “Jake” Heather smiled sadly at her youngest son as he comforted his hurting mother.
At Patrick’s Place, teenagers Alex Ellison and Mia Faraday were enjoying a double date with Drew Lomax and Molly Campbell “You two are just so cute” Molly commented as Alex fed Mia some chocolate fudge cake. “You make us sound like toddlers” Alex quipped. Drew laughed and then suggested that the group hit the club “Erm, maybe not tonight” Mia panicked as she was hit with flashbacks from her accident six months previously. Alex picked up on Mia’s hesitance and lied that he had planned a surprise for Mia so they had to get going. “Oh okay” Molly said disappointed. “You’re good to stay a little longer aren’t you?” Drew asked Molly. “Of course she is, but home no later than twelve Cinders” Mia jumped in. “Enjoy your night.” As Alex and Mia left, Molly’s foster mother Kayla Macey opened the door for them as they wheeled towards it. However, they came face to face with Kyle Campbell as he arrived for his shift. “Kyle” “Mia” They both exhaled. “Erm, we were just leaving, we should catch up soon though” Mia said as she rushed off. Kayla could sense Kyle’s hurt as he called after Mia “I’d like that” He sighed. “Come on you” Kayla said as she put her arm around Kyle “I’ve got some ice cream that will make you feel a little better.” As Kayla and Kyle moved into the kitchen, Drew and Molly finished their cake. “Smile” Drew teased as he took a photograph of Molly on his phone. “Stop” Molly complained as Drew looked at the photograph he had taken of Molly’s cleavage. “You’re so pretty you know Mol” Drew charmed “Smoking hot” Drew said as Molly blushed.

Siobhan stared at her fingernails as she sat on the sofa in the living room; she was joined by her children Anthony and Emily. Across the room, her mother Katherine stood clutching onto the hand of her partner Duncan Faraday. “I need to talk to you” Siobhan’s voice broke as she tried to hold in her tears. “Mum” Emily said. “Is everything okay?” Anthony panicked. “Oh my sweet babies” Siobhan said tearfully as Anthony and Emily both began to bombard Siobhan with questions and worries. “Let your mum speak” Katherine reasoned as she sat down next to Siobhan and took her hand. Siobhan took a deep breath and looked towards Anthony and Emily. “I have a condition called Multiple Sclerosis…” Siobhan’s voice trailed off as the scene became silent. Anthony put his arm around his sister as Emily began to cry, in the doorway; Duncan was trying to fight his own tears as Siobhan explained the realities of her condition.

As he walked along Canvey Lanes High Street, David Fields was stopped in his tracks as he came face to face with Steven Faraday and his son Alfie. Having not seen Alfie since he had to hand him over to Steven, the gravity of the situation began to overwhelm David. “Steven” He managed before exhaling a heavy sigh. Steven returned the greeting as he moved along. David became emotional as he caught a glimpse of Alfie wrapped up in the pushchair. David shook off her tears and raced back to his car, in his state, David dropped his keys “Christ” David slammed as he finally opened the car. Once inside, David grabbed the bottle of whisky that he had hidden in the glove compartment, he opened it and took a gulp.

Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Eileen was in her element as she ran and raced around the bar “Ladies, what can I get you?” Eileen asked as Chrissie Campbell and her wife Jay Willis sat at the bar. “Since when did you start working here?” Chrissie asked curiously. “Well, about two hours ago” Eileen replied as she broke into how she used to run a pub back in Ireland. Meanwhile, Tate confronted Imogen in a quiet corner of the pub. “I heard you on the phone Imogen” Tate revealed. Imogen stared at her son’s partner for a moment “Oh that” Imogen sighed “Just those stupid sales people” Tate arched an eyebrow “I heard it Imogen and that was no sales call. What’s going on? Are you in trouble?” Tate pleaded. “I’ll tell you what it is, none of your business” Imogen barked as she tried to move. Tate stood in front of her “I get that this is none of my business, but if it affects Anthony and could hurt him, then I’m making it my business.” Tate paused “Does Anthony have anything to worry about?” Tate asked firmly. “Everything is fine Tate, thank you for your concern, but you can go back to work now” Imogen replied. As Tate walked away, Imogen rushed out into the back and leant against the wall, her worried expression plain to see.

Molly yawned as she lay on her bed sending messages to her boyfriend Drew on Whatsapp. She stared at the newest message in confusion “Send a nice pic for me.” The message read. Molly replied “What do you mean?” Drew sent Molly a photograph of him with his top off with the message “You next.” Molly stared at the picture and then replied to Drew “I don’t feel comfortable” She stood up and looked at her reflection in the mirror. She turned around as she heard her phone “You’re the sexiest girl I’ve ever met. You’re my girlfriend and this is what couples do when they can’t be as close as they’d like to.” The message insisted. “It’s just for us right?” Molly replied. “Of course” Drew’s message followed. Taking a deep breath, Molly stood up from her bed and slowly unbuttoned her top, she gulped as she took a photograph of her naked body and sent it to Drew. Molly felt a pang of embarrassment as Drew replied “Hot. So Hot.”

Chloe stood at the kitchen sink washing up as Nicki walked in “Did I say something wrong?” Nicki asked. Chloe froze “I just…” She began “I just can’t believe you brought it up again, it’s taken so much for me to move on and put it in this box so I’m not thinking about it all the time and you just talk about it so casually” Chloe tried to explain. “I wasn’t trying to hurt you Chloe” Nicki said, the hurt clear in her voice. “I’m trying to move on with my life, I thought you were too. He’s taken too much from us already” Chloe tried to stop herself from getting upset. “I’ve got a future with Harry now and I’m sorry that you don’t with Josh, but please don’t keep bringing it up” Chloe pleaded. Nicki was silent for a while as she began to dry up, she soon broke the silence “I have to ask you something” She said. Chloe turned towards Nicki “Have you not asked yourself?” Nicki began. “What?” Chloe questioned. “How well do you really know him? I mean, his brother Luke…” Chloe soon cut Nicki off angrily. “Please hear me out; I’m worried about you Chlo. How could he have not known what his brother was capable of” Chloe shook her head “Harry is a good man” Chloe assured “But his brother isn’t” Nicki stated. “I can’t listen to this” Chloe rushed towards the door “I’m only trying to look out for you Chlo. I was lucky with Josh, I mean he’s a pig, but at least I know it. Harry seems like a good man, but after everything we’ve been through. I don’t think we can ever fully trust a man again, especially one with his family history.” Chloe escaped the room with Nicki’s words echoing in her head, Chloe’s eyes settled on a photograph of her and Harry, while in the kitchen Nicki sipped from a glass of wine, feeling satisfied with the seeds of doubt she had planted.

3x24: 'I don't think cupcake PJs and Jezza says fine at all' | Written by Hannah | Episode Eighty Two The breeze was cold as Anthony Spencer arrived for work at the Fields’ garage, he was still reeling from the devastating news that his step-mother Siobhan was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. He felt relieved to have the distraction of work; however Anthony froze as he noticed that the garage door was unlocked. Anthony looked around suspiciously and then picked up a metal pole and edged towards the garage. Anthony slowly opened the door and called out. He paused as he listened to a strange sound, looking around Anthony dropped the metal pole in annoyance as he found David’s car parked with David snoring in the back seat, an empty bottle of whisky in his hand. Meanwhile at the Donovan house, Olivia Kane was sat in her pyjamas watching a repeat of the Jeremy Kyle show “When Naomi said it was bad, I didn’t realise it was this bad” Chloe teased as she sat down next to her best friend. “I’m fine Chlo” Olivia reassured, but Chloe shook her head “I don’t think cupcake pjs and Jezza says fine at all” Chloe replied. “Come on Liv, let’s get out of here, I need distracting Nicki’s driving me crazy” Chloe complained as Olivia turned to face her “I thought you two were getting on really well” Olivia said. “We were…I mean we are, but…” Chloe paused “She’s got it into her head that Harry turned a blind eye about Luke” Chloe admitted. Olivia nodded “I’m probably not the best person to talk about trusting your man” Olivia sighed “You can’t blame yourself for Matthew, no one could have predicted what he was capable of, but Liv, you can’t let him win. You can’t let him change you” Chloe pressed “What if it’s too late?” Olivia said sadly.

At Patrick’s Place, Kayla Macey watched her foster daughter Molly Campbell stare out into space, she joined her at the counter “How’s Drew?” Kayla asked. Molly looked towards her and shrugged “Haven’t heard from him today” Molly muttered. “Are you okay Mol?” Kayla asked. “I’m fine” Molly answered and walked over to take Emily Spencer’s order. After Molly had left, Jake Connor joined his friend “I got your text” He said. “I just can’t believe it” Emily sighed “My mum, she’s always been there for me…always been so strong…” Emily paused “But last night, she didn’t look very strong, she looked broken” Emily confided as Jake reached across the table and held onto her hand. Meanwhile, at the Crown and Horseshoe, Ava Donovan had covered an entire table with her university books and she typed away at her laptop “You look busy” Barman Tate Yorke commented as he collected glasses from the table next to her. Ava nodded “That’s an understatement” She replied. “Well if you need a shot of Tequila, I’m your man” Tate joked and left Ava to it.
*
Mia Faraday shivered in her swimming costume as she waited for her physio Sahira Jakra, her father Steven appeared in his trunks and sat on the bench next to her wheelchair “I told you I’d be okay on my own.” Mia sighed. “I know, but it’s your first swimming lesson” Steven replied. “I do know how to swim” Mia snapped. “You know what I mean Mia” Steven said. “Good morning” Sahira said brightly as she walked over in her one piece. Steven couldn’t help himself but glance over Sahira’s body; he blushed as Mia caught him looking. Sahira got into the swimming pool as Mia wheeled over to the side of the pool to the lift which Sahira then lowered into the water “Are you coming in?” Sahira asked Steven. He nodded and got into the pool, watching as Sahira advised Mia. Back at the Donovan’s, Chloe stood up abruptly “Right, I can’t do this anymore, there’s only so much Holly and Phil I can take” Chloe pulled Olivia up from the sofa “Put your trackies on, we’re going to the gym” Chloe decided, but Olivia shook her head “No Chloe, I’m not in the mood” She tried to sit back down but Chloe didn’t give in “Come on, a little sweat will do you good” Chloe pressed “I won’t take no for an answer.”
*
Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Tate brought over a sandwich to his boyfriend Anthony “How you doing?” Tate asked. “I’ve had to cover for David all morning” Anthony stated. “I meant about Siobhan” Tate specified. “I can’t talk about it, I just want to get through today” Anthony replied and took a bite out of his sandwich. Tate sighed and returned to the bar. Anthony’s mother Imogen Sandford walked over “Lover’s tiff?” She asked sarcastically. Tate rolled his eyes “He’s just upset cause his Mum’s ill” Tate’s jibe stung Imogen, but she didn’t let it show “What’s wrong with Siobhan now? She got the flu?” Imogen shot back. Tate shook his head “You really have no idea what’s going on in your son’s life” Tate went over to clear the tables, his attention turned towards Ava who cursed in distress. “What’s wrong?” He asked. Ava covered her face with her hands, close to tears. “I knocked my drink all over the laptop. I’ve lost my whole essay” She explained. “You backed it up right? On USB” Tate asked, but Ava shook her head “I was on a roll, I just wanted to finish my paragraph” Ava turned and looked up at Tate “Can I have that shot now?” She asked. Meanwhile, at the bar Landlady Lindsay Faraday was watching as her friend Natalie Hunt walked into the pub with a lunch date. “What can I get you?” Lindsay asked awkwardly. “Two glasses of Rose please” Natalie answered and then turned towards her date “This is Marie” Natalie introduced. Lindsay greeted Marie coldly and then watched as Natalie and Marie found a table.
At the end of Mia’s session, Sahira smiled “You’ve done really well today Mia, you should be really proud of yourself” Sahira said supportively. Mia nodded “I’m going to get changed” She muttered and wheeled towards the changing rooms leaving Steven stood with Sahira. “You’re good with her” Steven complimented. “It’s my job” Sahira replied. “I really appreciate everything you’ve been doing for Mia, six months ago I thought my daughter’s life was over, but you’ve given her this hope, you’re giving her the chance to live and I don’t know how I can ever repay you” Steven said emotionally. “Just keep doing what you’re doing, supporting Mia, giving her the confidence to keep going with the rehab” Sahira encouraged “You’re doing really well, you and Sophia” Sahira continued. “It hasn’t been easy, especially with the divorce, but we’re all moving on now and as long as Mia is happy, I’m happy.” Steven smiled.
*
Chloe stood at the bottom of the stairs as Olivia finally made an appearance “You off out?” Olivia’s brother in law Cole Donovan asked from the kitchen doorway “We’re going to the gym” Chloe revealed. “It’ll do you good Liv” Cole said supportively. “So people keep telling me” Olivia didn’t hide the annoyance in her voice. “Come on let’s go” Chloe said as she picked up Olivia’s gym bag. Chloe and Olivia walked out onto Canvey Crescent, Chloe linked Olivia’s arm supportively. “Olivia” Heather Connor called from the other side of the street; she walked over and asked how Olivia was doing. “I’m so sorry about Matthew; I feel like I should have known what he was doing. I worked with the man every day…” Chloe soon cut Heather off “Thanks Heather, Olivia really appreciates your concern” Chloe muttered and began to lead Olivia to the end of the crescent.
Flashback “You’ve been following my sister, me, our entire family for years. You’re responsible for everything that’s happened to us, how could you? All this…” Olivia shouted pointing to the photographs on the wall “It’s sick, it’s psychotic…” Olivia ran to the wall and began ripping the photographs and newspaper articles from the wall, she threw the files and the folders off the tables to the ground as Matthew tried to grab her wrists to stop her “Don’t touch me! Don’t you ever touch me ever again!” Olivia ordered as she pushed Matthew away “I have to get away, I have to get away from you” Olivia rushed to the door, but Matthew was too fast for her “I’m sorry Liv; I can’t let you do that.”
*
Anger flashed before Matthew’s eyes at Olivia’s suggestion, he stood up and hit Olivia hard across the face “Typical Olivia, selfish bitch. Flashback ends
Olivia stopped abruptly on the edge of Canvey Crescent “I can’t do this” Olivia said breathlessly, clutching hold of her chest. “Olivia” Chloe cried out as Olivia struggled to catch her breath. “I need…to…home” Olivia coughed, grabbing hold of Chloe’s arm as though her life depended on it.
*
Ava slammed her book closed as she looked at the bones of her essay that she had managed to write, she shook her head in distress “It’s nowhere near the standard of the other one” She complained to Tate. “You’ll get there” Tate encouraged and returned to the bar. Lindsay stood and watched as Natalie and Marie giggled closely. She took the plates from the chef that were for Natalie’s table and slowly took them over there. However, as Lindsay reached the table, her foot got caught on a chair leg and the plates toppled all over Marie who squealed attracting the attention of the whole pub. “I’m so sorry” Lindsay said as Natalie glared at her. Marie stood up and stared at the gravy that covered her dress “I have to go” Marie said grumpily. “Let me get you a towel” Lindsay offered but Marie declined and said her goodbyes to Natalie. After Marie had left, Lindsay and Natalie stood in an awkward silence. “I’m sorry I ruined your date” Lindsay said finally. “Are you?” Natalie responded with a raised eyebrow. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Lindsay snapped. “You couldn’t have made Marie feel less welcome if you tried” Natalie complained. “I’d say you’re jealous” Natalie accused. “Jealous of what?” Lindsay answered. “That kiss wasn’t just a drunken kiss for you either was it Linds?” Natalie spoke out. “I’m not doing this Natalie, you have no idea what you’re talking about” Lindsay lashed out and turned to walk away “One day you’re going to stop being scared of the way you feel, but I promise you, I won’t be there waiting” Natalie warned.
*
Mia lay on the sofa at Steven’s flat as her father sat down next to her with two hot chocolates. Mia sat up and took the cup from Steven “Thank you for coming today Dad” Mia said. “Anytime sweetheart” Steven smiled. “I saw you, you know” Mia teased “Checking out my physio” Steven blushed “I wasn’t” He defended but broke into a smile once he noticed the look of amusement on his daughter’s face. “Alright, I couldn’t help but notice that Sahira is quite attractive” Steven admitted. “I want you to be happy Dad and if Sahira is the woman that might be able to make you, then I’m okay with that” Mia told her father. Steven smiled “When did my little girl get so grown up?” He laughed. Meanwhile, Imogen stood outside the Crown and Horseshoe smoking a cigarette, she cursed as her phone began ringing once again. Imogen stared at it for a moment and then cancelled the call. “Do you honestly think if you keep ignoring me it will all go away?” A dark voice emerged from the alleyway. Imogen inhaled deeply, she felt frozen to the spot as a face from her past became clear. “I bet you never expected to see me again.” He smiled.

3x25: 'Skeletons are probably more your style anyway... seeing as you have somany to choose from' | Written by Joe | Episode Eighty Three Olivia Kane stood in front of the mirror in her sister Naomi Donovan’s hallway; she was desperately trying to talk herself into venturing outside the crescent to talk to solicitor Heather Connor in relation to the divorce she so desperately craved from her estranged and jailed husband Matthew Fitzgerald. Olivia looked down at the fitted grey skirt and red blouse she had chosen to wear “They’re my clothes, but I don’t feel like me anymore” Olivia pondered out loud. Olivia walked up the stairs into the bedroom and sat down at the dressing table, she stared at her reflection as she brushed her hair then carefully applied her make-up, taking special care to ensure that every aspect was perfect. Now stood at the front door, Olivia froze as she reached out; she slowly brought her hand back as her breathing became more and more erratic. She inhaled deeply, telling herself to pull herself together. Olivia opened the door and took a step outside. She felt dizzy as her surroundings began to spin; she fell backwards against the door “Olivia” A passing Siobhan Spencer called out as she rushed towards her. “I can’t do it, I can’t do it” Olivia confessed as Siobhan helped her back inside the house. “It’s okay…it’s gonna be okay” Siobhan reassured as she explained that Olivia was having a panic attack. Olivia sat down on the sofa and breathed deeply, once her breathing started to sound calmer, Olivia stood up and thanked Siobhan “I’m okay now, you can go” Olivia said. “You can walk me out” Siobhan responded as Olivia showed obvious hesitation. “I know how you feel Olivia, that desperate tightening…failing to catch your breath. I’ve been there” Siobhan confided “After the siege, after what Matthew put me through that night…I couldn’t go outside. I was terrified; I would jump at my own shadow. The only place I felt safe was in my house” Siobhan explained as Olivia remained silent. “But you know what, I got through it and I beat it, I beat him and so can you. You can’t let him win Olivia, he doesn’t deserve your fear. You can beat this by being the person that you are, don’t let him take any more than he’s already taken” Siobhan encouraged as Olivia reached out for her hand. Siobhan smiled and led Olivia towards the front door. “You can do this” Siobhan encouraged as she and Olivia walked out of the Donovan house and made their way out of the crescent. The scene then changes to Olivia sat in Heather Connor’s office “Please tell me you’re joking” Olivia snapped. “I’m so sorry Olivia, I’m afraid I’m not. You can’t begin divorce proceedings against Matthew until you’ve been married for a year.” Heather explained.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel Hastings gathered his staff in the bar area of the pub. While Tate Yorke was busy talking to Eileen Fields, Imogen Sandford was obviously distracted. “Firstly, I'd like to welcome Eileen to the team” Daniel offered “I've every faith that you will be a fantastic addition to the team”. As Tate clapped, Eileen jokingly took a bow. “Okay, okay...now down to business...”, as Daniel waffled about a new beer that was coming on the market, Imogen was startled by a text message from James Chandler demanding her to meet him straight away. “It's all the rage in the nightclubs” Daniel stated, “But this is a local community pub...I can't see old Jimmy ordering doubles of it” Eileen quipped. “I need to go” Imogen blurted out as Tate stared at her suspiciously. “Really” Daniel exhaled “Yeah, I'm sorry. I completely forgot. I've got an appointment with Natalie...gotta keep my nails in check for our adoring public” Imogen lied, “Adoring public, she'd be so lucky” Eileen whispered to Tate. The scene then followed Imogen as she left the pub. Looking around, she turned the corner and jumped as she came face to face with James. “Imogen, you look like you've seen a ghost” James whispered, “It wouldn't have been half as frightening as what's standing in front of me” Imogen replied coldly “Skeletons are probably more your style anyway...seeing as you have so many to choose from”. Imogen fell silent as James looked over her shoulder, “That's him isn't it”. Imogen turned to see her son Anthony Spencer heading to work towards the garage. “You leave him out of this” Imogen snapped “Gladly. I have no interest in your son Imogen as long as you co-operate of course” James sneered “What do you want James?” Imogen asked “I need £5000, you can sort that for me can't you, you always did have a talent for landing on your back...I mean lover boy in there seems pretty flash” James reasoned. “I don't have access to that kinda money” Imogen tried to explain “That never stopped you before, in fact if I remember correctly, the bigger challenge, the more you got off on it” James taunted “I need time to get that kind of money” Imogen pleaded. “Don't take too long...as much as I don't want to involve your son in this, don't think for a second that I won't” James stated before walking off.

Heather was sat in her office looking through her files; she failed to notice her husband Michael staring at her from the doorway. Michael coughed “Do I need an appointment?” He teased as Heather looked up and then rushed towards him. Kissing him on the lips Heather stepped back “Please tell me you have news” Heather pleaded “Maybe we should go for a something to eat...or...” Michael stammered “Tell me Michael” Heather demanded. Hanging his head, Michael placed both hands on Heather's arms. “I didn't find her” He confessed “The lead that I was given, it had gone cold. I'm so sorry” Tears began to stain Heather's cheeks as Michael pulled her close “It isn’t over, we'll find her...come on...it's going to be okay”. Heather however pushed away from Michael. “This is not okay...how do you know we'll find her. We haven't yet. We haven't got a clue where she is...even if she's...” Heather paused “This isn't okay. I want her home. I want her home and safe and until that happens...this is not okay” Heather cried.

Jogging along the beach, Lindsay Faraday tried to change course as she saw Natalie Hunt and Sophia Phillips walking towards her. “Oh looks its Lindsay” Sophia said as she waved at her, “Is it...I couldn't tell because of all that ill-fitting Lycra” Natalie quipped. Lindsay stopped as she reached the pair and removed her ear phones “Hiya” She greeted. “Linds, so this is your secret” Sophia began as panic hit Lindsay. “I can explain” Lindsay said “Well I hope you can...so your killer figure is down to jogging” Sophia joked. Lindsay then let out a light laugh before looking over at Natalie. “Yeah, Lindsay, you really do have a banging body” Natalie teased as Lindsay became embarrassed. Sophia felt the tension “Is everything okay with you two?” Sophia asked “Of course” Lindsay answered “Well, as okay as they're going to be” Natalie replied before bidding the girls farewell, “I'm needed back at the salon and well the company just got a little bit too stale for me.” As Natalie walked off, Sophia looked over at Lindsay confused. “Have I missed something?” She asked. Lindsay explained about the incident in the pub where Lindsay ruined Natalie’s date “She thinks I wasn't very welcoming to Marie but I genuinely did, just trip over” Lindsay explained but Sophia’s suspicions seem to have been irked.

At flat of Chloe Charles, Chloe joined her best friend Olivia on the sofa. “I really thought by going to see Heather today that I could draw a line under this...God will I ever be free from him” Olivia exhaled in frustration. “So it's another a few months. It's not the end of the world” Chloe tried to comfort Olivia. “You don't get it...that man ruined my life, I just want rid of him” Olivia snapped but silence fell over the room. “I know what it feels like to have a man ruin your life...” Chloe reminded her friend “Oh God Chlo...I'm so sorry. Of course you do. God I'm so stupid and insensitive”. Olivia moved towards Chloe and the girls hugged. “It's okay...but Liv, things will get better. Look at me, I'm living proof” Chloe encouraged. “Yes you are. If I can be half as brave as you've been over this past year then...then I know I'll be fine” Olivia replied. As the girls smiled, Nicki Grant, Chloe's flatmate joined them. “Sorry, am I interrupting” She says as she entered the room, “Erm, yeah, you kinda are” Olivia replied leaving Nicki etched and surprised. “If you could give us a minute” Olivia added realising she was coming across rude. “Chloe” Nicki said “We're just having a catch up. It's kinda private. We can chat later though” Chloe said as she returned to her conversation with Olivia without even waiting for Nicki's reply. Leaving the room, Nicki was annoyed as she heard Olivia and Chloe giggling “Bitch” She snapped to herself.
Standing behind the bar at the Crown and Horseshoe, Imogen nervously looked around her. She had just pocketed takings from the till. “Same again” A customer called causing Imogen to jump. “Someone walk over your grave” Tate commented as he moved past her. “You've no idea” Imogen whispered as she began to pull a pint. Daniel walked past holding a click board followed by Eileen who was sporting a HI-VIS jacket. “In the case of an emergency...” Daniel bellowed as Eileen rolled her eyes. Tate was behind the bar laughing when he noticed that Imogen's pint was overflowing. “And now onto the hygiene part of your induction Eileen” Daniel said “Listen Daniel, I've been running pubs longer than you've been alive. Is this really necessary?” Eileen asked. As Daniel explained why it was, Tate called out to Imogen. “Woah” He said he pushed the pump forward. “I think it's good to go wouldn't you?” He quipped. As Imogen returned from her trance, she agreed, “Yeah”. Returning from the toilets, Daniel and Eileen were bickering. “All I'm saying is, if you clean it first...I'm happy to do it after...lead by example Daniel. That was my motto” Eileen reasoned “But I'm the landlord” Daniel responded “Yes you are...but that doesn't put you above you scrubbing the loos”. Daniel huffed as he made his way behind the bar. Eileen then winked at Tate who walks over to collect some glasses. However, after Daniel served a customer and opened the till, he was startled by the lack of money in it. “What the hell?” Daniel exhaled “Everything okay” Imogen asked knowing what Daniel was upset by. “Where's the takings?...Tate can you come here please?” Daniel asked. Daniel then asked Tate where the takings for the day were. Tate explained that he doesn't know. “Look just empty your pockets...and erm, bring me your jacket” Daniel ordered while explaining to Tate that was disappointed in him. “You think I stole from you?” Tate asked in shock “Let's not make a scene” Daniel whispered. Eileen then moved towards Tate and put her arm around him. “Look Daniel, you can't go accusing the lad with no evidence” Eileen said but Daniel continued“Well you’ve been with me all morning, there’s no one else it could be” Daniel defended his opinion “Well it's clear, he's already made his mind up...forget it. Screw you” Tate then stormed off; hurt that Daniel would think he's stolen from him while a guilty Imogen struggled with her secret.
*
The scene then followed Tate as he rushed to the garage to talk to his boyfriend Anthony. “What a jerk” Tate stated while Anthony explained that he had to rush off. “There's a breakdown on the Ring Road”. Tate looked at Anthony “Really...Erm...” Tate tried to compose himself, “We'll talk later okay. Sorry” An oblivious Anthony then rushed off leaving behind an upset Tate. The scene then changes to Imogen meeting James once again. “Here” She said as she handed him an envelope. “That was quick...you must be better than I remember” He taunted. Opening the envelope James looked inside as Imogen walked off. However, James grabbed Imogen and pushed her up against the wall. “You know not to test me Imogen...where is the rest of the money?” He demanded. Imogen tried to explain that she told him she would need more time. “Well time is something of a luxury for me at the moment Imogen...get me my money or that son of yours will found out just what sort of a messed up bitch you really are” James threatened.

Chloe held onto boyfriend Harry Campbell’s hand as he walked her to work “You okay there” Harry asked. “Very” Chloe replied. As they passed Heather’s office, they greeted the Connors who were just leaving. Michael glared at Harry “The trail went cold” He informed the couple. “I’m so sorry Michael” Harry began, but Michael interrupted “Your brother has ruined my little girl and you just swan around in your happy little life” Michael lashed out “Michael” Heather warned, but he wasn’t listening. “I can’t control my brother’s behaviour, if I’d know what he was capable of…” Harry defended. “You stood by and let him walk out the door with our little girl, leading her into God knows what” Michael snapped. “None of this is Harry’s fault” Chloe defended “He’s not responsible for Luke, maybe if you’d kept a better eye on your daughter none of this would have happened” Harry pulled Chloe’s arm “Leave it Chlo, they’re hurting” Harry tried to lead Chloe away, Chloe’s expression softened “I’m sorry for what you’re going through and I understand that you need someone to blame, but Harry’s not that person” Chloe said passionately. After Harry and Chloe had disappeared, Heather pulled Michael towards her “We have to be strong for each other” Heather whispered. “This is tearing me apart Heather, seeing you like this and there’s nothing I can do to help and God knows I’m trying. I wanted to bring her home, I wanted to fix it…please forgive me Heather” Michael pleaded emotionally as Heather held her broken husband in her arms.

Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Steven Faraday was pleased when Sahira Jakra joined him. “Hi there, can I get you a drink?” Steven greeted as Sahira took off her jacket. “A glass of red wine would be lovely” Sahira smiled. After ordering their drinks, Steven paid Chloe before he and Sahira took their drinks over to a table. “I was surprised to get your call...” Sahira confessed “But happy?” Steven asked. “I'll tell you that later” Sahira teased. However, before the conversation could move on, the pair were joined by Sophia, Steven's ex-wife, “Have you noticed anything odd about Natalie and Lindsay?” She asked as Steven looked at Sophia in confusion “Like what?” He questioned. Sophia then explained to Steven that there was an incident while Natalie was on a date and it seems to have been blown up into something more than it was. Steven remained silent as an awkward Sahira took a large gulp of her wine, Sophia then looked at the pair and realised that they were on a date. “Oh God...erm...it's probably nothing. I'm probably over-reacting...I need to go...I'm really busy. I should go” Sophia stammered as she stood back up “Have a good evening together...or not together, have a good evening alone...I'm gone” Steven laughed at Sophia's awkwardness while Sahira remained silent. “So where were we” Steven said after Sophia had finally left “Look Steven, I'm a straight shooter. I don't fancy getting into something if you're not ready for it” Sahira blurted out as Steven stared at her. “You think I'm still in love with Sophia...Sahira, there is a part of me that will always love Sophia, she was my wife, she's Mia's mother but I hurt her very badly. I can never make up for the hurt I caused her. But I don't love her. Not like that...and I want this, whatever this may be. Do you want it?” Steven asked as Sahira smiled.

Making her way down toward the cellar in The Crown and Horseshoe, Chloe was startled as she heard footsteps behind her. “Hello” She called but no one answered. Letting herself into the cellar, Chloe made her over to a barrel that needed changing. “Of course you couldn't change the barrel before you got the sack Tate” Chloe complained aloud. However, she was startled again when she heard footsteps. “Who's there?” She asked “This isn't funny”. Chloe remained silent but once again no one replied. Shaking her head, Chloe muttered “I'm losing it.” Once again Chloe could hear the footsteps; she began to panic as she flashbacked to the night she was raped. She could hear footsteps behind her that night but she could see no one until it was too late. “Screw this” Chloe exhaled as she left the barrel but suddenly, she heard pounding. As she raced towards the door, it slammed shut, locking her in. “Let me out” Chloe screamed, while on the other side of the door, Nicki smiled. “That'll teach you to ignore me.”

Megan looked up brightly and smiled “Of course” She answered “This party is going to put my portfolio on the map” Megan beamed as she took a photograph of Noah on her phone. Meanwhile at the Donovan house, Naomi Donovan walked into the living room as though it was a catwalk, she spun around sending her white dress twirling “What do you think?” She asked her sister Olivia Kane. “Marilyn Monroe…nice” Olivia responded. “Did you sort your costume?” Naomi questioned as Olivia sighed. “I was thinking of staying in tonight” Olivia admitted “Oh Liv” Naomi said disappointed. “I can’t do it Naomi, it’s too soon” Olivia said as she stared at her hands. Naomi smiled softly and sat down next to her sister “I understand Liv, but don’t forget who you are” Naomi encouraged as Olivia leaned her head on Naomi’s shoulder.

Siobhan Spencer stood in the kitchen, steadying herself over the counter as she waited for the wave of dizziness to pass her over. “Mum” Siobhan’s daughter Emily called from the doorway “Are you okay?” She asked, her voice shaking. Siobhan took a deep breath and tried to smile “I’m fine sweetheart” She lied. “I don’t have to go to the Campbells tonight” Emily offered “We could watch a few horrors, eat the sweets you bought for the trick or treaters” Emily stood next to her mother “I want you to go to the party sweetheart, have a good time” Siobhan encouraged as she stood up straight. “Only if you’re sure” Emily said as Siobhan nodded “Of course I’m sure.” Siobhan put her arm around Emily and kissed her on the head. Meanwhile at the Garage, mechanics David Fields and Anthony Spencer were working in complete silence. Anthony’s boyfriend Tate Yorke arrived and immediately sensed the tense atmosphere “So you’ve got the Halloween feel down to a tee in here” Tate joked as he handed Anthony a sandwich “I made you some lunch seeing as I’ve got some time on my hands.” Tate continued. “I heard about what happened mate” David said “Water off a ducks back” Tate tried to sound convincing. “You coming to Kyle and Molly’s tonight?” Tate asked Anthony. Anthony shrugged as Tate sighed in frustration. Tate led Anthony outside the Garage “Look I know you’re struggling with what’s happening to Siobhan, but you can’t keep pushing me away like this” Tate said “Not everything is about you” Anthony snapped and walked back into the Garage leaving Tate feeling more alone than ever.

At the Macey house, Mia Faraday was helping her friend Molly Campbell set the house up for the Halloween party later that evening. “You seem quiet” Mia said breaking the silence. Molly looked up from the buffet table “Drew’s not coming” Molly admitted. “Are things still okay between you?” Mia asked “I don’t know, I’ve barely heard from him recently” Molly explained, but their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of Molly’s twin brother Kyle “Check this out, I managed to convince Kayla to let us have a crate for the party” Kyle beamed “Let me guess, with adult supervision” Molly responded. “Yeah, there’s no getting rid of them. Mum said that they’re actually gonna dress as the three witches from Macbeth” Kyle laughed at the thought of Kayla, Chrissie and Jay’s matching costumes. At the Crown and Horseshoe, Imogen Sandford ignored another text message from James Chandler demanding when he would get his next instalment, she looked up at Tate approached the bar “Got anything to say to me?” Tate snapped as Imogen remained silent “You and I both know that I didn’t take that money, I don’t know what trouble you’ve got yourself into but you’re gonna get me my job back” Tate warned. “I don’t know what you’re talking about” Imogen protested. “I’m willing to bet that your little sales call has a lot to do with the missing money and I’m sure you don’t want Daniel or Anthony knowing anything about it.” Tate looked over to where Landlord Daniel Hastings was sat going over the books. “Sort it out Imogen” Tate said as he left.

As night time fell on Canvey Island, the Halloween spirit seemed to have taken over the whole island. Trick or treaters descended on Canvey Crescent while various parties were getting into the swing of the holiday. Vampiress Sophia attended the bar as her ex-husband Steven Faraday walked in with his new love interest Sahira Jakra. The couple were dressed as the Joker and Zombie Schoolgirl. “You two look awesome” Sophia smiled, making awkward conversation. “So do you” Sahira responded politely. Over at the DJ booth, bloody surgeon Noah and his wife nurse Megan were looking out at the growing crowd “I think you’re party looks like a success” Noah kissed Megan on the lips “It’s still early yet, you know what Canvey Island parties are like” Megan laughed. Couple Chloe Charles and Harry Campbell walked into the club and headed straight to the bar for a round of shots. Chloe was dressed as bright red haired Little Red Riding Hood while Harry adopted a Mad Hatter costume. “Tequila?” Harry asked as Chloe kissed him “It’s like you read my mind.” Chloe downed her shot quickly “You alright though babe?” Harry asked “After the other night?” Chloe shrugged “I know you think the lock got jammed, but I’m telling you Harry someone was there, they locked me in that cellar” Chloe maintained. “I think you’re taking the whole Halloween thing a little too seriously. It’s over now. Daniel said he’d sort out the lock so you don’t need to worry. Besides, I’m here to protect you remember” Harry smiled as Chloe kissed him lovingly. Meanwhile on the balcony of the nightclub Nicki Grant watched Chloe and Harry intensely as Josh Connor walked past “Looking sexy Little Red Riding Hood” He commented on Nicki’s costume which was identical to Chloe’s. “You had your chance” Nicki snapped and walked away leaving Josh standing alone in his clown costume. Downstairs, Cole dressed as Edward Scissorhands smiled admiringly as he walked towards his wife Naomi “You look absolutely stunning” He complimented and kissed her passionately on the lips “Although I know somewhere else that dress would look good” He teased. “Oh let me guess…the bedroom floor” Naomi laughed “Like I haven’t heard that one before” She pulled Cole towards the bar “I think champagne is called for” Naomi said as Cole looked at her for a moment “Have I missed something? It’s not our anniversary is it?” Cole panicked as Naomi laughed “No, you’re safe. It’s end of November by the way” Naomi teased “I just think it’s about time we celebrated. I know Olivia is really struggling at the moment, but she’ll get through it I know she will. But it’s all over Cole, we’re not being watched or threatened, we’re free. We’re finally free from it all, my past, Matthew…this is our chance now Cole, the new life we’ve always wanted” Naomi beamed “Well if that doesn’t call for champagne then I don’t know what does” Cole agreed.

The party at the Macey house was in full swing as Kayla dished out the fruit punch to Emily “You look like a beautiful ballerina Emily” Kayla smiled as Emily thanked her. She was soon joined by her friend Jake Connor who was dressed as a werewolf. “How’s everything going?” Jake asked. “Mum’s still pretending she’s fine” Emily sighed “You?” She asked. “Mum’s still pretending Vicki’s going to walk through the front door at any moment” Jake admitted. “When did life stop being about ballet exams and the latest X-box game?” Emily mused as she and Jake stared into the living room full of witches and vampires laughing and joking. Dead cheerleader Molly offered brother Kyle a toffee apple, but was distracted by some boys from school laughing and looking over. She walked over to Mia who was dressed up as a gothic Snow White “I feel like people keep looking at me” Molly complained “You’re dressed as a cheerleader, that’s most school boy’s fantasy” Mia joked as she reassured Molly that she should just enjoy the party. Witches Chrissie and Jay smiled as they watched everybody enjoying the party “I’ve always dreamed of this” Chrissie smiled “Family” Jay responded “I know what you mean” She said. “I got lucky the day I met you Jay. You gave me my life back, you gave me the strength I needed to get my family back” Chrissie said. “You always had the strength Chrissie, you just didn’t realise it” Jay replied. “I love you Jay” Chrissie kissed her wife on the cheek “Chrissie, there’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to you about” Jay began “This probably isn’t the best time but since we’re talking about family and stuff” Jay paused as she became nervous “I’ve been thinking…well… I want us to have a baby.”
“It’s too quiet” Imogen complained as she looked around the nearly empty Crown and Horseshoe “It’s Halloween, they’re all at Chemistry” Daniel answered. “We should have had a party like last year” Imogen continued. “There wasn’t the budget for it, especially with money going missing” Daniel moaned as Imogen felt a pang of guilt. “I don’t think Tate took the money Daniel” She blurted out. “Who else could it have been?” Daniel questioned. Imogen hesitated “I don’t know, but Tate’s a good boy, I trust him.” Imogen defended “Besides, you’re the one with a jailbird son-in-law or did you forget that Noah’s robbed this place before.” Meanwhile at the Fields’ house, David sat alone on the sofa as he finished his bottle of whisky. There were a pile of letters on the coffee table, final demands for unpaid bills at the Garage. David tried to hide them as his mother Eileen walked in but he wasn’t fast enough. Eileen read each letter, gasping each time “Oh David.” She said sadly as her drunken son stood up and viciously snatched the letters from her hand.

Chloe and Harry giggled as they danced to an Evanescence song while Sophia stood with her former sister in law Lindsay Faraday at the bar “What’s this one called again?” Lindsay asked about her cocktail “Night Fright” Sophia answered as they were approached by Sophia’s friend Natalie Hunt “Nice costumes girls” Natalie complimented as Lindsay straightened her skeleton dress. “Liking the Grim Reaper look” Sophia tried to laugh but once again got irritated by the strained atmosphere “Look, I don’t know what happened but can you two sort this out” Sophia warned and left to serve a customer at the other side of the bar. “Sophia’s right, we can’t keep on like this” Lindsay broke the silence. “I don’t have anything else to say Lindsay. We both know there is this thing between us, but until you admit that you have feelings for me, there’s nothing left to say” Natalie explained. “I do have feelings for you” Lindsay finally said “But I’m not gay” She added. “There’s no easy explanations or solutions Linds” Natalie said. “I’m out of my depth here Natalie and I don’t know what to do” Lindsay tried to explain her confusion. “Maybe we shouldn’t keep analysing everything, why can’t we just spend time together?” Natalie suggested as Lindsay nodded “Spend time together, I can do that” Lindsay agreed and offered Natalie a cocktail nervously. Over on the dance floor, Chloe moved over to the side as she looked at her phone, her boyfriend Harry joined her “Everything okay?” He asked. “Not really” Chloe admitted “I’m so sorry Harry, Olivia needs me” Chloe apologised as she explained that Olivia had been hearing noises outside the house and was terrified to be on her own. Harry nodded and kissed Chloe on the lips. At the bar Tate ordered a shot of Tequila and offered to buy one for his friend Ava Donovan “Bad night?” Ava asked. “I lost my job and my boyfriend is barely speaking to me, one Tequila is not enough” Tate said as he ordered another round. “Fancy a dance?” Ava offered as Tate downed another shot “Hell yeah” Tate answered and joined Ava on the dance floor.

Back at the Campbell’s Halloween party, Mia was distracted by some boys looking over that Molly “She shouldn’t cover up that body so much” One of them said as he stared at his mate’s phone. Mia wheeled over to the boys and demanded to see what they were looking at. Mia took the phone and found a photograph shared in a group message on Whatsapp “Oh my God” Mia gasped “Everything okay Mia?” Kyle approached and saw the topless photograph of his sister. Kyle saw red and pinned one of the boys to the wall “Where the hell did you get it?” Kyle demanded as Mia pleaded for him to calm down “My brother’s mate from college sent it” He admitted. “Kyle” Molly squealed as she saw her brother, Kyle released the boy and threw the phone at Molly “Well done Mol, you’re in the running for page three” He spat and stormed off. Molly stared at her photograph in horror, she felt like the whole room was staring at her. Stepping backwards, Molly escaped the room and ran upstairs to her bedroom. Jay followed Chrissie to the stairs “Chrissie wait” Jay pleaded. “I can’t do this now Jay, my little girl needs me” Chrissie said as she rushed after Molly. Meanwhile, back at Chemistry Ava was dancing with a guy who was dressed as a pirate; she looked over at friend Tate who gave her the thumbs up. She responded as the pirate leant in for kiss and soon enough they were kissing passionately on the dance floor. Behind the bar, barmaid Nicki was fixing a drink for Harry. She looked around as Sophia was busy at the other end serving endless fancy dressers. Looking back at the drink, Nicki emptied a small vial of liquid into the drink and mixed it in well. She walked over to Harry and placed the drink in front of him. “Wow, I thought you were Chloe for a second there” Harry muttered as he took in Nicki’s costume “Great minds, next time we’ll have to check in with our outfits” Nicki laughed as she watched Harry drink.
*
Walking along Canvey Crescent, Josh bumped into Anthony on his way home “How you doing mate?” Josh asked politely. Anthony shrugged “Getting by” He answered. “I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch, things have been a bit awkward recently I guess” Josh apologised as he referred to his break up from Anthony’s step mother Siobhan. “Well at least we know the reason behind it all now” Anthony sighed. “What do you mean?” Josh questioned. “You know, with her being ill. I thought it was strange that you two just broke up with no real reason, least now me and Emily know the truth” Josh stared at Anthony in confusion “Well maybe you can now let me in on it” Josh’s eyes narrowed. “Oh God, I thought you knew” Anthony cursed as he realised that Josh had no idea about Siobhan's Multiple Sclerosis. “Siobhan’s got MS” Anthony admitted as Josh struggled to take in the news. Meanwhile, at Chemistry Ava was excited as she bounced over to Tate to tell him all about her new friend “He’s so lovely” She beamed as she then excused herself to go to the bathroom. As she walked past her pirate and his friend, Ava overheard their conversation “She’s well up for it mate, got to love the drunken slappers” They laughed as Ava felt sick in humiliation.

A montage begins as Megan helps Noah on the decks at the DJ booth, while Naomi and Cole danced happily together. Kayla and Chrissie both sat on the end of Molly’s bed, attempting to comfort the teenager while Mia tried to calm Kyle down. At the Fields’, Eileen sat alone in the kitchen holding a tea towel of ice over her bruised face, her son David was upstairs passed out on his bed. Anthony walked into the Spencer house with Josh following. As they walked into the living room, Josh and Siobhan’s eyes met emotionally. Outside Chemistry, Ava was standing alone in the alleyway. Her eyes were closed as she held a broken piece of glass down on her arm, feeling a release a blood was drawn. “Ava” Ava’s eyes shot open at the sounds of Tate’s voice. Meanwhile, Chloe and Olivia giggled as they enjoyed a glass of wine in the safety of the Donovan house, while at Harry’s flat, he lay passed out on his own bed. A bright red wig and little red riding hood costume was strewn across the floor, Nicki stared at Harry as she stroked his hair and then she turned around, closing her eyes to sleep.

3x27: 'Make a girl feel special' | Written by Joe | Episode Eighty Five As they lay side by side in his bed, Harry Campbell and Nicki Grant were fast asleep. Slowing, Harry began to wake up. He yawned as he sat up with a banging headache; he looked around the room disorientated. He saw the red wig and little Red Riding Hood costume strewn across the floor, however when he looked around expecting to find his girlfriend Chloe Charles asleep next to him, Harry was horrified to find Chloe’s flatmate Nicki. Harry gasped in shock and backed out of bed with speed, knowing over the lamp on the bedside table in the process. The sound of the breaking lamp caused Nicki to stir in the bed. As she woke up, Nicki stared at Harry “Morning” She whispered. “How…how did this…why are you here?” Harry muttered as he pulled on his jeans. “You don’t remember?” Nicki questioned “Make a girl feel special…” Nicki complained as she pulled the covers over herself. “This can’t be happening” Harry paced the room “I remember being at the club…”
Harry tried to piece together the previous night “You did have a lot to drink, I found you slumped over the bar, I had to drag you to a taxi” Nicki explained “Then…” She let the sentence trail off “Then? What happened?” Harry pleaded “Do I need to draw you a picture?” Nicki snapped. Harry shook his head before bringing his hands up to cover his face “Christ” Harry slammed his fist into the wall. “It’s no big deal” Nicki said as she reached across for her clothes. “It was a one off Harry. A mistake, no hard feelings” Nicki said. “It’s not about hard feelings Nicki, I’ve got no feelings for you” Harry snapped. “I love Chloe, I would never hurt her…Oh God this is such a mess” Harry said emotionally. “I’m still in the room Harry” Nicki lashed out as Harry apologised. A knock on the door startled them both “Harry, are you asleep?” Chloe called from the door. Harry began to panic as he threw Nicki the rest of her clothes. Harry put his finger up his mouth and warned Nicki to stay quiet; he pulled on a t-shirt and rushed out of the bedroom to face Chloe. Once Harry had left, Nicki picked up her bra from the floor and smiled to herself, she walked over to Harry’s wardrobe and stuffed the bra at the back. *
At Patrick’s Place, Ava Donovan was sat at a table in the corner typing away on her laptop. She reached across the table and picked up her hot chocolate. She looked back at her laptop and noticed a new Facebook notification, Ava gasped as she clicked on the link to be taken to a photograph of the Donovan family with the tagline ‘Keep calm, they’re only killers.” Slamming her laptop shut, Ava began to scratch at her arm. “Maybe you should change your washing powder” Her friend Tate Yorke commented as he sat down opposite her. Ava looked up in embarrassment “You can’t avoid talking about this Ava” Tate said. “I was just leaving” Ava replied. “How long?” Tate asked. Ava didn’t answer. “How long have you been cutting yourself?” Tate extended the question causing Ava to look around to make sure nobody had heard. “Will you keep your voice down” Ava ordered. “I just want to understand Ava, you’re my friend” Tate reasoned. “What’s to understand Tate? You try living my life. You try being the girl with killers for parents, the girl with an armed robber for a brother” Ava felt the tears in her throat “The girl whose family was stalked by a psychopath for years. Try living my life and then tell me you wouldn’t want to be free from it all.” Tate reached across and pulled Ava’s hand and held it in him “And you think that’s what you’re getting from cutting yourself, freedom…release?” Tate questioned as Ava pulled her hand away “I’m not hurting anybody else” Ava snapped as she packed up her laptop and left sharply.

Walking into the Fields’ Garage, Eileen Fields called out for her son David. Rolling out from underneath a car, David stood up and stared at his mother “Ma, what are you doing here?” David asked. “You forgot your lunch” Eileen muttered in response. “And it’s not a liquid one” Eileen said. “Please don’t start” David sighed. Eileen backed away quickly as David walked towards her “Ma” David said hurt, he reached up to Eileen’s bruised cheek “Ma, I’m so sorry” David apologised. “It’s fine, don’t be worrying. Now, here, take your lunch” Eileen said as David leaned forward to kiss his mother on the cheek. Eileen closed her eyes tightly as he did. The moment was interrupted by the arrival of Anthony Spencer “Morning” Anthony greeted. “Good morning Anthony” Eileen smiled. “Right well, I better leave ye two at it. Have a good day” Eileen left the garage but stood outside for a moment. Leaning against the wall, Eileen tried to compose herself. Shaking herself off, she smiled and made her way towards the Crown and Horseshoe for her shift.

At Canvey Comprehensive, teachers Naomi Donovan and Steven Faraday were stood at the school gate on their morning duty. “Alfie must be getting so big now. God the last time I saw him, Eileen...” Naomi stopped herself before Steven quickly added, “Yeah, a right bruiser now.” Across the playground, Mia Faraday was wheeling herself along beside her best friend Molly Campbell. “Everyone's staring at me” Molly whispered as she felt self-conscious. “Ignore them” Mia replied supportively. Molly tried to smile, but that faded as her twin brother Kyle rushed towards them holding up copies of Molly’s topless picture that had spread virally across the school. He pulled another down off the side of the school building and threw one of the boys who had been standing looking against the wall “Did you do this?” Kyle demanded as Molly begged him to stopped “Kyle” Naomi called out as she and Steven made their way over. Kyle threw the pictures towards Naomi as she then showed Steven. Mia tried to reach out to Molly but she pushed her hand away and rushed off in embarrassment. “I’ll go after her” Naomi said as she went after Molly. “Come on then, man up” Kyle continued to demand “That’s enough Kyle, I understand that you’re upset but there's a right and a wrong way of dealing with this. Now come on, come inside. We'll get to the bottom of this, I promise” Steven softly explained to Kyle.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Eileen was cleaning glasses as Landlord Daniel Hastings argued with his partner Imogen Sandford over the week’s rota. “Can you work Thursday night?” Daniel asked. “I can’t Daniel, I’ve got Yoga.” Imogen replied. Daniel raised an eyebrow “Yoga…really? We’re short staffed Imogen” Daniel complained. “You wouldn’t be short staffed if you swallowed your pride and apologised to Tate” Eileen spoke up. “Thank you Eileen, I’ll put you down for a double shift Thursday” Daniel responded. Eileen shrugged and moved closer to Daniel “That's only a short term solution to a long term problem...now what can I get you?” Eileen said before serving a customer. “Eileen's right Daniel. Maybe it's time to talk to Tate” Imogen whispered. Daniel however refused, “I won't have a thief on the pay roll” Daniel said “You've had an armed robber if memory serves me correctly” Eileen added. In frustration Daniel told Eileen and Imogen that staffing was his decision and he escaped upstairs. Eileen tried to smile as her former partner Duncan Faraday arrived with his new love Katherine Lavery and her daughter Siobhan Spencer. “I can serve them” Imogen offered. “No, but thank you. I have to face it sometime” Eileen smiled as she asked Duncan for his order. “Your eye” Duncan commented in shock “What happened?” Katherine asked “One too many after a night out. You know what I'm like” Eileen tittered “I'll bring them over, take a seat”. As Duncan and Katherine sat down, Siobhan was stopped by an arriving Josh Connor. “Siobhan, can I have a word please” He asked softly, “I'm actually just out for a quiet drink Josh” Siobhan replied “I just want to talk” Josh pleaded.
As they walked along the beach, former couple Siobhan and Josh finally talked about her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. “I wish you would have told me” Josh said. “I didn’t tell anyone Josh. I didn’t want to believe it, I couldn’t take it all in. I thought if I admitted it out loud, told people…it would make it all real and I didn’t want it to be real” Siobhan confided emotionally. “You pushed me away” Josh said sadly “I should have been there for you, I was your partner, you’re supposed to be able to turn to. I would have supported you” Josh took hold of Siobhan’s hand. “I know you would have. But that’s not what you signed up for. Josh, you’re still young, you’ve got so much look forward to. I wasn’t about to saddle you with an invalid.” Siobhan said. “I love you Siobhan” Josh pleaded. “And I loved you Josh, but we were never going to make it. I think we both knew that.”

Standing outside Patrick’s Place, Kyle was still fuming over the treatment of his sister Molly. “You need to calm down” Mia advised. “Why, in case I do something I regret...well that's exactly what I'm hoping for” Kyle snapped. “Kyle please, just let it go” Molly begged, “Let it go, this ain't a Disney film Mol. There is no happy ending here” Kyle shouted. “What the hell were you thinking sending that pic Mol” Kyle sighed as Molly remained silent. Molly looked away “I just wanted Drew to like me, be the kind of girlfriend that he wanted.” Molly admitted. “Well half of Canvey Island are overly enamoured with you now” Kyle quipped. However, before Molly could react, Kyle saw red as Drew Lomax pulled up in his car. “You have got to be kidding me” Kyle fumed as he ran across the street to face off with Drew, “Oi, Drew Lowlife...” Kyle bellowed before punching Drew full force in the face causing Drew to fall onto the bonnet of his car. “Kyle stop” Molly pleaded while Mia begged Kyle to let Drew go. However, Kyle could no longer hear the girls’ pleas “If you ever come near my sister again…” Kyle ranted as he kicked Drew who was on the ground “I’ll kill you” Kyle threatened.

At Faraday’s Restaurant, Harry sat awkwardly with his girlfriend Chloe “You know we should do this more often” Chloe smiled as she took a sip of her wine. “Yeah” Harry replied, “Calm down, calm down” Chloe mocked a Scouse accent, “I'm bowled over with the enthusiasm” Chloe joked. Harry faintly laughed before apologising to Chloe for being so distracted. “And I'm sorry about this morning as well” Harry added, “Yeah, well I guess this meal makes up for me having to buy my own breakfast treat this morning” Chloe said referring to Harry forgetting his wallet that morning. “Got it now, so we're good” Harry said waving his wallet. Chloe smiled “Everything is okay?” Chloe asked “Everything’s fine. Now let's just enjoy out meal” Harry responded. However, the couple were then joined by Nicki. “Celebrating something?” Nicki commented as Harry looked at her. “Just spending some quality time together” Chloe answered “That's sweet” Nicki smiled in Harry's direction. “Oh and by the way, what happened you last night, dirty stop out” Chloe teased “Caught red handed, you just can't keep anything secret round here can” Nicki laughed “Welcome to Canvey Island” Chloe joked before her phone started ringing.
Chloe excused herself to take her call leaving Harry and Nicki alone at the table. “That wasn't awkward at all” Nicki said, breaking the silence. Chloe soon returned “That was Daniel, I need to go into work” Chloe complained as she put on her coat “I'll make it up to you babes, I promise” Chloe kissed Harry, “Look why don't you guys finish off the meal” Chloe suggested, but Harry tried to tell Chloe that he wasn’t that hungry anyway. “I don't mind. I've always fancied a date with a police man” Nicki teased “Easy now, he's taken” Chloe joked before leaving the pair. Nicki then took a sip of Chloe's wine” Mmm” She smiled “Delicious” Harry shook his head “Look Chloe's gone now, we really don't need to do this.” Harry said pulling out his card. “We need to talk Harry, about last night” Nicki said. Harry flinched with guilt. “I'm not going to tell Chloe...I wouldn't know where to start” Nicki paused “But I think it's only fair to Chloe if...erm, I don't really know how to say this...but I think you should finish with her. You clearly don't care for her as much as you say you do”. Harry reeled from Nicki's suggestion “I'm going to finish with Chloe because of a fumble with you that I can't even remember” Harry snapped “I don't think this is the kind of situation where if you can't remember it, it didn't happen Harry” Nicki pushed “Thank you for not saying anything to Chloe but I'm not finishing with her, no chance” Harry said firmly before leaving the restaurant.

Placing her keys on the table in the hallway, Naomi stretched after a rough day. Making her way into the living room, she is greeted by the sight of her sister Olivia Kane lying on the sofa, surrounded by empty boxes of ice cream and three bottles of wine. “Well it looks like you've had a very productive day” Naomi quipped as she began to clear up Olivia's mess. “I did as it goes...Jamie wasn't the father of Saskia's baby...it was Jerome” Olivia revealed referring to an episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show. Naomi shook her head “Is this really what your life has become? What happened the Olivia Kane that I knew, the successful business woman, the confident, vibrant...” Naomi began but Olivia interrupted “She became Olivia Fitzgerald, a pawn in a sick game to get to you” Olivia lashed out. Naomi stood in silence as Olivia struggled to contain her pain. “All he ever wanted was to get to you...and look at me now, I'm a mess” Olivia confessed as Naomi rushed towards her sister and cupped her in her arms “Maybe it's time you talked to someone. I think it could help” Naomi confided as Olivia lightly nodded her head in agreement.

Still at the beach, now watching the sunset, Siobhan and Josh were sitting on a bench. Siobhan turned to Josh, “What I said earlier about us, you know never making it, I didn't say it to hurt you” Siobhan confided as Josh scoffed “Why else say it then?” He questioned “To ease your guilt”. Josh looked at Siobhan confused. “You feel guilty now don't you. You feel like you abandoned me, even though I pushed you away, you feel like now that you know the truth about my illness that you should try and get back with me, help me, care for me...well you shouldn't feel that because I don't” Siobhan took Josh's hands in hers “When you helped me after the siege, when I couldn't even face opening the door let alone stepping outside. You were there. You helped me and I think at that time, we both needed each other but not for the reasons that are needed for love to grow” Siobhan paused “I'll never regret us Josh, in fact, I always look back fondly on our time together” Josh leaned forward and kissed Siobhan on the cheek. “I always be there for you” Josh promised “I'd like that” Siobhan replied “Friends” Josh offered “Always” Siobhan smiled before leaning on Josh's shoulder and watching the sun set.

3x28: 'You might want to try telling your face' | Written by Hannah | Episode Eighty Six Olivia Kane stood in front of her bedroom mirror; she stared at the charcoal jeans and cream jumper she had chosen to wear. “How are you feeling?” Her sister Naomi Donovan said from the doorway. “Is this what a damaged wife wears for her first shrink session?” Olivia questioned. “You look beautiful” Naomi answered. “This is the right thing to do Liv” Naomi said softly. “I just want my life back” Olivia admitted tearfully “You will, I promise you it’s all over” Naomi said as she pulled her sister into a hug. Meanwhile, downstairs in the Donovan house, Ava and her friend Tate Yorke were in the kitchen baking. “I told you this is better than working” Tate laughed as he cracked an egg into the cake mixture. “This isn’t getting my assignment finished though” Ava responded. “All work and no play…you know the saying” Tate teased. “It’s all about channelling your feeling in the right way” Tate continued. “I don’t think making a few cakes is going to change anything” Ava sighed. Tate smiled sneakily as he flicked some of the mixture over Ava’s face as she giggled “Hear that…” Tate said suddenly “What?” Ava questioned. “The world is still turning and you’ve got a smile on your face” Tate smiled as Ava caught his eye.

Chrissie Campbell was distracted as she washed the plates in the kitchen of Patrick’s Place “You’ve been quiet for days” Chrissie’s business partner and friend Kayla Macey commented. Chrissie looked up and shrugged “I’m okay” Chrissie replied. “You might want to try telling your face” Kayla said. Before Chrissie had the chance to respond, they were interrupted by the arrival of Chrissie’s wife Jay Willis. Kayla instantly sensed the awkward atmosphere between the couple and left them alone. “I feel like I haven’t seen you” Jay confided. “It’s been busy here” Chrissie said. “I really think we should talk Chrissie, about what I said” Jay explained “I’m working Jay, we can talk when I get home” Chrissie replied in annoyance. “I’ve been trying but there’s always an excuse” Jay snapped and walked out. Chrissie threw the towel on the counter in frustration as Kayla appeared in the doorway. “Want to talk now?” Kayla asked. Meanwhile, in the Faraday’s living room, Sophia Phillips was pouring over the Chemistry accounts as her former sister-in-law Lindsay Faraday sat down at the table. “You look lost” Sophia commented as Lindsay sighed. “I need some advice” Lindsay admitted. Sophia looked at her in intrigue “I can try” She answered. “I’ve been thinking about the Crown and Horseshoe, I don’t think my place is there any more. Since the divorce, we’ve been trying to make it work but the truth is, my heart isn’t in it anymore. Part of me feels that Daniel should have the chance to build a life there with Imogen without my shadow in the background” Lindsay confided. “Wow Linds, that place has been your pride and joy for so long.” Sophia replied. “I need a new challenge” Lindsay admitted “I just don’t know what it is yet.”

At the Crown and Horseshoe, barmaid Chloe Charles was helping Eileen Fields decorate the Christmas tree as Imogen Sandford walked into the bar “Really? It’s still November” Imogen sighed. “Where’s your Christmas spirit? Or are you Canvey Island’s answer to Scrooge” Eileen commented. Imogen raised an eyebrow “Christmas shouldn’t start until December” Imogen responded. “I take it you won’t be coming to see the lights tonight then” Eileen asked. “I might show my face” Imogen said as she returned to the bar “All of them?” Chloe asked under her breath as Eileen giggled. As they hung the new teal coloured decorations, Megan Donovan walked in and smiled “I see my Dad’s finally opened his wallet and got some new Christmas stuff, about time” She laughed. “How’s the new flat?” Eileen asked “Noah must have really put in the hours for that” Eileen commented. “It’s lovely, thanks” Megan answered awkwardly as her father Daniel Hastings appeared hearing Eileen’s words. “Have you spoken to Tate yet about giving him his job back?” Eileen asked as Chloe made a subtle exit. “Not now Eileen” Daniel’s eyes narrowed. “You haven’t asked Noah yet have you?” Eileen continued. “Asked Noah about what?” Megan questioned. “Nothing” Daniel said quickly. “Money went missing from the till” Eileen revealed as Megan looked at Daniel in horror “And you think Noah took it?” Megan shook her head “I thought we’d moved on” Megan said sadly and walked out before Daniel could say a word. “Cheers Eileen” Daniel spat as he stormed off.

Back at Patrick’s Place, Chrissie and Kayla were sat on the kitchen floor while Kyle held the fort outside in the café. “Are you totally against the idea of having more children?” Kayla asked after Chrissie had confided in her about Jay’s suggestion of starting a family. Chrissie hesitated “I’ve just got my life in a place where I am really happy. I have my wife and my family, I’ve done the whole pregnancy and baby thing, and I wasn’t great at it. I can’t see myself doing it all over again” Chrissie admitted. “I think you need to be honest with Jay” Kayla said. “What if I lose her?” Chrissie asked. “You two love each other, I believe you can make it” Kayla reassured her friend. Meanwhile sitting in the office of Dr Susan Channing, Olivia took a deep breath “I don’t want to let him win” Olivia confided “But everything feels out of my control, I don’t understand how I just wipe out the last two years of my life. I loved Matthew…well the man I thought he was anyway. I feel like I’m grieving” Olivia admitted. “You are in a way, you’re grieving for your marriage, for the future you thought you were going to have. You’re not going to get over it quickly Olivia, it’s going to take a lot of strength and dedication. You’ve already taken the first step by coming here today and I think you should feel very proud of yourself” Susan smiled softly. “Maybe this is my way of taking back the control” Olivia said with strength.
There was a chill in the air as Duncan Faraday stood with his partner Katherine Lavery on Canvey Lanes High Street “Chrissie and Kayla are setting up the hot drinks outside the butchers” Duncan explained. “I wish you’d relax, it’ll all go to plan” Katherine said supportively as Duncan worried about the Christmas lights switch on due to begin in a few hours’ time. While inside the Last Minute Supermarket, Megan was angrily ranting to her husband Noah about her father’s suspicions over the missing money “With my history you can’t be too shocked Megs” Noah reasoned. “He’s supposed to be on our side” Megan said sadly “I thought we’d finally turned a corner” She continued. Noah pulled Megan into a hug “We have Megs, if you’d asked me a year ago that we would be getting ready to spend our first Christmas together in our own home, I’d never have believed you” Noah smiled and kissed Megan on the lips. “I love you Noah” She smiled back “I love you too babes.”

Back at the Crown and Horseshoe, Imogen was smoking a cigarette as she sat on the bench. She frowned as a familiar car pulled up outside the pub. Imogen stubbed out the cigarette angrily and stormed towards James Chandler. “I was hoping never to see your smug face ever again” Imogen lashed out pushing him around a corner “Why all the venom?” James’ voice tinged with fake sincerity. “I want the rest of my money Imogen” James warned. “There’s no more money” Imogen spat. James menacingly grabbed Imogen’s wrist and pulled her towards him “Wrong answer” He snapped. “You know me well enough by now Imogen, I don’t back down and I sure as hell don’t make empty threats” James released his grip on Imogen and straightened his jacket. After he had left Imogen looked at her hands and realised that she was shaking. Inside the pub, Olivia walked in for the first time in months. Her best friend Chloe smiled as she rushed towards her “Liv, it’s so good to see you” Chloe beamed as she then asked how Olivia’s session went. “Are you coming to the lights later?” Chloe asked. “I don’t know” Olivia hesitated. “Please Liv, you can come with me and Harry” Chloe offered. “I don’t really want to be the third wheel” Olivia admitted. “You won’t be, I’m sure Nicki will come along too” Chloe said as Olivia finally agreed.

There was an excitement in the air as the community of Canvey Island gathered on Canvey Lanes High Street. As an island tradition, local businessman Duncan was getting ready to once again switch on the Christmas lights that brightened up the street. Families and friends were slowly gathering along the street. Daniel walked with his partner Imogen and stood outside Kane Creations, he smiled at his daughter Megan and her husband Noah, but Megan turned away still hurt by her father’s lack of trust. At the corner of the high street, Lindsay stood with Natalie Hunt “Are you sure about this?” Natalie asked. Lindsay took a deep breath “Megan’s opinion is the only one I care about and she accepts this…us” Lindsay said and held out her hand towards Natalie. “Okay” Natalie agreed as she took Lindsay’s hand and walked towards the growing crowd. As Imogen and Daniel talked about plans for the pub, Imogen noticed Daniel’s former wife first “Daniel” Imogen whispered. Daniel looked towards Lindsay and Natalie and stood open mouthed when Natalie planted a kiss on Lindsay’s cheek. Meanwhile, teenagers Molly Campbell and Mia Faraday were talking about Mia’s boyfriend Alex Ellison who was over at the tea stall with Kyle. While Eileen stood next to Tate, who was focusing on keeping friend Ava busy and smiling. Eileen couldn’t help but notice Ava’s smile fade as Tate’s boyfriend Anthony Spencer approached and took Tate’s hand lovingly. Duncan took the small stage and looked out towards the community. “Thank you once again for joining us on this cold but beautiful evening” Duncan began “Before I get on with the task you have all stopped by to watch, I would like to ask my beautiful partner Katherine to join me” Duncan looked towards Katherine who was shocked by Duncan’s request. Katherine’s daughter Siobhan pushed her towards the stage. Katherine blushed as all eyes were on her. “It’s times like these that really reminds me of what this community means, family and friends all coming together, sharing special times and memories and I couldn’t think of a better time or place for this moment” Duncan took a deep breath as he pulled out a small box from his pocket, smiling, he bent down on one knee and looked up at Katherine “Katherine Lavery, you are the light in my life and I was wondering if you would do the great honour of becoming my wife?” Duncan proposed as the crowd was filled with smiles. Katherine stared at Duncan in shock, while her granddaughter Emily called out from the crowd “Come on Nan give the man an answer, before his knee gives way.” Katherine laughed “Of course I will marry you” Katherine beamed and helped Duncan stand up. The crowd burst into applause as together as Duncan and Katherine switched on the Canvey Island Christmas lights.

“How beautiful was that?” Chloe smiled as she held onto boyfriend Harry Campbell’s arm “One for public displays of affection, are you Chlo?” Chloe’s flatmate Nicki Grant teased as Harry glared at Nicki. “It’s nice to see some happiness for a change” Olivia commented. Over at the tea stall, Jay was asking when she and Chrissie would get the chance to talk “I told you later” Chrissie snapped. “I think we should talk now, you’ve kept me in suspense for long enough” Jay demanded “I’m not doing this here” Chrissie said as she pulled to the side “I just want to know Chrissie, do you want to start a family with me?” Chrissie hesitated and then shook her head “I don’t want to be a mum again Jay” Chrissie finally admitted. Jay tried to hold back her tears “See, this is why I wanted to wait, talk about this in private” Chrissie sighed “I don’t think there’s anything left to talk about” Jay said coldly and walked away. Before Chrissie had the chance to go after her wife, a police car pulled into the high street and two officers got out. Harry recognised his colleagues and asked what had happened. “I’m sorry Harry, it’s your brother” The female officer said. Harry looked towards Kyle who caught his eye. Harry joined the officers as they walked towards the twins. “Kyle Campbell, you are under arrest for assault” They revealed. “Are you serious?” Kyle questioned knowing exactly what they were referring to. “Do you know what he did to my sister?” Kyle shouted as the officers placed him in handcuffs. The residents were stood in shock as Kyle was led away towards the police car while his twin sister stood faced with the guilt over the events caused by her former boyfriend Drew Lomax.

3x29: 'Well he clearly won't be leading the Canvey Island Pride parade any time soon' | Written by Joe | Episode Eighty Seven In an interview room at Canvey Island Police Station, teenager Kyle Campbell was being questioned by two police officers following his arrest for his assault on sister Molly’s former boyfriend Drew Lomax. In the reception area, Kyle’s brother Harry, sister Molly and foster mother Kayla Macey were waiting on tenterhooks. However, absent from the scene were Kyle’s mother Chrissie and her wife Jay Willis. Meanwhile, bak on Canvey Lanes High Street, newly engaged couple Duncan Faraday and Katherine Lavery were trying to lighten the mood following Kyle’s arrest. “This place is turning into a lesbian's commune” Imogen Sandford commented sharply, “What with your Lindsay joining Chrissie and Jay's club.” Duncan looked over at Imogen confused while her partner and Lindsay’s ex-husband Daniel Hastings shuffled awkwardly. “Congrats anyways...you make a fabulous couple” Imogen added by kissing Duncan on the cheek and hugging Katherine much to her surprise. Just then, Lindsay Faraday who was holding hands with her new partner Natalie Hunt joined the group. “Dad” She spoke softly breaking the awkward silence “I'm so pleased for both you and Katherine” Duncan looked at Lindsay’s hand intertwined with Natalie’s. Katherine then stepped forward and thanked Lindsay for her kind words. “I need to go...I need to check that everyone is okay after what happened earlier” Duncan stammered before leaving. “Well he clearly won't be leading the Canvey Island Pride Parade anytime soon” Imogen joked but judging the looks of those around her, they clearly didn’t find it funny.

At the Campbell house, Chrissie was rushing through the house calling out for her wife Jay, “Jay” She repeated on several occasions as she entered each room. Chrissie was about to rush out the front door when she noticed Jay stood at the top of the stairs with her suitcases in hand “Jay…” Chrissie exhaled “It's Kyle...” Chrissie paused as she realised that Jay was leaving her. “What's all this...where are you going?” Chrissie asked as Jay shook her head, blinking her reddened eyes “I've left you a note, please don't make this any harder than it already has to be” Jay pleaded while trying to pass Chrissie on the staircase. “No, Jay, no. Please, we can talk about this” Chrissie said tearfully “So now you want to talk...I have been trying to talk to you for weeks and you've just fobbed me off every time” Jay insisted. “I need you. Please Jay, I need you. Kyle needs you, he's been arrested” Chrissie confessed. Jay however remained silent. “Didn't you hear me?” Chrissie retorted, “Oh I heard you, like I always do. And I always come running because I would do anything for you. I would do anything for your kids. I love you and I love them like they were my own...and you, you couldn't even talk to me about what I asked you.” Jay snapped as Chrissie moved to one side, “I know. You're right. I was just so scared that I would lose you if I told you the truth” Chrissie tried to explain “And the truth is, you don't want to have another baby. You don't want us to have a baby together because you don't love me as much as I love you”. Jay then made her way past Chrissie but Chrissie grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “That is not fair” She exclaimed “You have changed my life, you have made my life worth living” Chrissie insisted “You gave me back my kids...I love you Jay, whatever else you may think or believe, please believe that I love you with every best of my heart”. Jay sighed “Then please, please Chrissie, be honest with me. Why don't you want a baby?” Chrissie then made her way down the stairs with Jay following her. Chrissie looked at the clock on the wall, her mind racing with thoughts of Kyle yet desperately wanting to stay and save her marriage. “I will tell you the truth, I promise but right now, Kyle needs me. And you, he's been arrested. He beat up Drew after what he did to Molly” Chrissie explained. Jay immediately changed her attitude having learned of Kyle's plight. “Well come on then. I'll drop you to the station” Jay said “But you'll come in with me right?” Chrissie asked. Jay however didn’t answer but instead grabbed her car keys and told Chrissie to hurry up.

Back on Canvey Lanes High Street, Duncan was busy talking to people when he was joined by his former partner Eileen Fields. “That was a beautifully romantic yet public proposal, how could any woman refuse?” Eileen sighed clearly hurt yet underneath happy for Duncan and Katherine. “Yes and I'm glad Katherine accepted. I would have looked a right fool otherwise” Duncan lightly laughed “Why change the habit of a lifetime” Eileen quipped before nodding at Duncan, silently giving her approval but not strong enough to voice it. As Eileen walked away, Lindsay who was alone asked her father for a quiet word. “I'm really busy Lindsay; you know there's a lot going on” Duncan said but Lindsay pulled at his arm, “Dad, please” She said. Duncan turned to face his daughter and they sat under the huge Christmas tree which only hours earlier was turned on by Duncan himself. With the carol singers still present, the sound of singing filled the island. “About me and Natalie” Lindsay began while Duncan shuffled awkwardly “I'm really happy Dad, she has made me happier than I've been in a long time” Lindsay tried to explain “You think I don't want you to be happy, you're my daughter Lindsay. I want you have every happiness than life can offer...I just” Duncan paused “I just wish you had told me, in private. That's all” Duncan admitted as Lindsay softly smiled “Well for that I am sorry. Do you think you can accept it...me and Natalie?” Lindsay asked “As long as she treats you right and doesn't hurt you, then I think, yes, I can accept you” Duncan and Lindsay hugged as Katherine smiled from afar.

Arriving at the police station, Jay pulled up in her car but doesn't stop the engine. Chrissie opened her door but stopped when she realised that Jay wasn’t getting out her side. “Jay” She said while putting her hand on Jay's “I need to be somewhere Chrissie, you go and be with your family” Jay pushed. Chrissie shook her head, “But they are your family too, they love you...Jay please. Please not now. Don't leave me now...not now when I can't fight for you because I will...I will fight for you” Chrissie insisted. “Go and be with Kyle. Give him my love” Jay sternly replied. As Chrissie got out of the car, Kayla came out of the police station and watched as Jay drove off. Quietly sobbing, Chrissie tried to compose herself before Kayla rushed to her side. “Oh Chrissie” She said as Chrissie turned and cried into Kayla's open arms, “She's gone” Chrissie sobbed.

Standing outside an apartment complex, Jay locked her car before walking inside. Getting into a lift, she began to do something on her phone. The lift doors then open as Jay walked towards her destination. Knocking loudly, Jay stepped back from the door. Answering the door, Drew Lomax was surprised by Jay's presence. “Mr Lomax, can I come in please?” Jay asked nicely, Drew stammered but Jay pushed past him, “Thank you” She muttered. Jay then made her way along Drew's hallway with him following quickly, “Oi, wait” He managed to say before Jay turned into his bedroom. As a girl scrambled to cover herself, Jay turned and smiled at Drew. “Mr Lomax, I need to discuss a matter of social media importance with you. Can I speak openly?” Jay asked. Drew then asked the girl to leave and told her that he would call her later. “We can talk in the kitchen okay” Drew insisted as he pushed Jay out of the room. “Just let yourself out babe” Drew told the girl before joining Jay in the kitchen. “What do you want?” He asked “I want you to look at something” Jay showed Drew her phone which has pictures of naked girls on it. “Yeah...” He squirms “Now look at these” Jay put her phone up in front of Drew's face showing him pictures of men who had been convicted of taking such pictures, posting them on the internet and who have been justly jailed for doing so. “My step-son is sitting in a cell tonight because he defended his sister because of your vile act. Now what I'm offering you is, a get out of jail free card. Do you follow me or will I use shorter sentences and smaller words” Jay spat “Tell the police you drop the charges against Kyle or I will take a case against you for your perverted obsession” Jay confirmed knowingly, “And I will see you in jail, I am very good at my job” Drew shook his head, “You think I'm scared, do ya?” He spat “Excuse me” Jay replied as she opened the kitchen door to reveal the girl from earlier about to leave. “Sorry darling, do you see this guy here...how well do you k now him?” Jay asked but the girl just shrugged, “Okay, let me tell you about him and then you can go and tell all your girlies....who'll tell their girlies....” Jay ranted before Drew ordered her to stop. “Alright, okay” Drew replied “I'll do it” He agreed “Good decision Mr Lomax...now do enjoy the rest of your evening.”
TA new morning dawned on Canvey Island as Lindsay returned to the Faraday house, having just had her morning jog. “Soo...” Sophia Phillips teased as Lindsay arrived in the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water “So what?” Lindsay replied “Where were you and who...were you with?” Sophia smiled as Lindsay shook her head, “I went for a jog” Lindsay answered “Oh is that what you're calling it nowadays” Sophia joked as Lindsay lightly laughed before adding, “So you're okay with me and Natalie then?” Lindsay asked “Yeah of course” Sophia replied, draining her coffee cup “As long as you treat her well...she is my bestie after all” Sophia smiled. “That won’t be a problem” Lindsay said “It feels right. You know how I was saying that I wanted something new, well I think that Natalie is just that. My fresh start” Lindsay explained “Speaking of fresh starts. I hope you don't mind but I spoke to Cole about you possibly buying into the club” Sophia explained. Lindsay was clearly taken aback by Sophia's admission, she was speechless “Oh I've made a mistake. Sorry Linds, it's just when you were talking before about the Crown and Horseshoe and letting Daniel and Imogen make a life there together without you being there in the shadows, it made me think of the time I wanted something different and left the restaurant...just forget it babes. I'm sorry” Sophia gathered up her paperwork before Lindsay told her to stop. “I'd love to” She exclaimed “What, really?” Sophia asked “Yeah, let’s do it. I'm going to buy into Chemistry” The girls then hugged as Lindsay relaxed into the changes she was making in her life.

Over at the Macey residence, Kayla was busy clearing up after breakfast with the help of Chrissie. As the woman talked, they were soon joined by Kyle. “Where's Jay? I want to thank her for helping me out last night” Kyle asked Chrissie while Kayla looked her knowingly. “I just need to go...and...erm, clean out my handbag” Kayla lied before leaving the room. Chrissie rolled her eyes with a slight giggle at Kayla's reason for leaving. “So, where is she?” Kyle retorted “Sit down...” Chrissie began “I'm sorry darling but Jay's left, she's gone”. Outside in the hallway, Molly and Harry joined Kayla who ushered them into the living room. “Is everything okay?” Harry asked “Kayla, what is it?” Molly added as Kayla looked at them sadly “I think your Mum is going to need us, okay. We're going to need to be gentle with her, its Jay” Kayla softly whispered.

At the Crown and Horseshoe, Imogen and Daniel were standing behind the bar when Lindsay joined them. “Good afternoon” Lindsay cheerily greeted, “Someone's put a spring in your step” Imogen teased before Daniel elbowed her. “You alright Linds...Lindsay?” Daniel asked. Lindsay smiled, “You know what Imogen, my step has most definitely got in a spring in it but I won't go into details because even with a past as checkered as yours, I'm sure you'd still blush”. Imogen then stammered before moving to the other end of the bar to serve someone. Daniel awkwardly laughed before Lindsay asks if she could have a word. Making their way into the back room, Daniel blurted out “I'm fine with it Linds...Lindsay, you know. It's your life and we've moved on. I'm with Imogen now and you, well...you're with Natalie, and it's great” Lindsay lightly laughed “You know it's okay if you're not completely okay with it. We were married for a very long time after all”. Daniel exhaled deeply, “Yeah, I guess...if I'm honest, I'm trying to get my head around it. Bit of a dent to the ego that's all” Daniel admitted “I guess that's fair enough but I didn't come here to talk about me and Natalie. I actually came here to tell you some good news. I've decided to offer you my share of the pub. I'm moving on...to Chemistry” Lindsay revealed as Daniel inhaled sharply “Wow, that's great...I think”. Daniel then hugged Lindsay, “You are sure aren't you...about everything?” Daniel asked sincerely. Nodding, Lindsay replied “Yeah, it feels right.”

Meanwhile, outside Kane Creations owner Olivia Kane is stood there just holding the keys. After making a number of failed attempts to open the doors, Olivia decided to walk away when she heard her friends Chloe Charles and Natalie Hunt making their way towards her. “Liv” Chloe called out “Look what I've got” Chloe cheered while holding up a bottle of Champagne, “I thought we should start your first day back with a pop” Chloe smiled as Olivia laughed but then shook her head “I don't think I can do it...I can't just go back in there and pretend that everything is normal. I just can't because nothing is normal anymore”. Natalie moved forwards “Olivia, I haven't known you very long but what I do know of you, is that you are a strong independent woman and you can do this” Natalie smiled supportively as Chloe put the champagne down by the door of the salon and asked Natalie to give her and Olivia a few minutes alone. “Yes, of course. I'll go and get us some coffees” Natalie replied “Thanks chick” Chloe smiled before Natalie walked off. Chloe then gestured to Olivia to join her as she sat outside Kane Creations on the ground. “Come on then, sit” Chloe ordered “I'm not sitting on that cold, dirty ground” Olivia cringed “It wouldn't be the first time Olivia Kane. Remember Christmas 2010, we were lucky we didn't freeze solid...mind you I think we would have happened if it wasn't for all the brandy we downed” Chloe reminded her friend, Olivia laughed and shook her head, giving in and joining Chloe on the ground. “Right, what's up?” Chloe asked while taking the wrapping off the top of the champagne. “It's just this, normality. How do you go back? I mean...after that happened with Matthew...he's just everywhere. I walk into the pub, I remember the siege. I walk along the beach and I remember the argument me and Naomi had before Matthew asked me to marry him...He's everywhere” Olivia exclaimed. “So face it...face him down. You've done nothing wrong, nothing to be ashamed of. Don't let him win Liv, you're stronger than that” Chloe encouraged “When I think of what you went through...And how I wasn't there for you...because of him, I hate myself” Olivia said tearfully but Chloe shook her head, “What I went through, yeah, it was terrible, and horrible. And I could have crumbled, I could have given up but you know what, I didn't. Because you can't Liv. You can't let them win” Chloe concluded before taking Olivia's hand in hers, “Now chin up, grab a glass and let’s do this in style”. Chloe then popped the champagne cork. Chloe started laughing as she filled both her and Olivia's glass “Who was Natalie kidding...coffee's...so not us” Chloe joked before she and Olivia clink glasses. “To the future” Chloe toasted, “To best friends” Olivia smiled.

Evening fell on Canvey Island as Chrissie walked along Canvey Lanes High Street. Gazing up at the Christmas tree, she smiled. “It's beautiful isn't it” She heard a familiar voice behind her. “Jay” She gasped before running towards her wife. As they estranged couple hugged, Jay slowly pulled away. “How is Kyle...did Drew retract his statement?” Jay asked “Yes, he's fine. He's so grateful. He'll be so thrilled to see you...he wants to thank you in person” Chrissie insisted. Jay however began to walk towards the Christmas Tree before turning to face Chrissie, “I can't go and see him, it would be too cruel and I can't face it” She began “I just wanted to say...goodbye” Jay said sadly “You're still leaving then?” Chrissie asked. Jay nodded holding back her tears, “It's for the best” She said “How can it be? I love you, you love me...please Jay stay, we can work this out, please” Chrissie begged but Jay refused “No, we can't. I want kids and you don't” Jay sighed “Then we'll have one” Chrissie desperately exclaimed “Let's do it, let's have a baby. Because I can't lose you...so come on” She pushed “You're only saying that because you want me to stay” Jay shook her head “Of course I want you to stay...I'll say anything. Anything. Just stay” Jay then moved towards Chrissie “So we'll have a baby...if I stay?” Chrissie nodded. “No” Jay exhaled “No. It won't work. You would only be doing it for me and I would know that” Jay paused “I will always love you, please believe that. I'm so sorry...but I have to go” And with that Jay kissed Chrissie for the final time before rushing to her car and driving off. As a devastated Chrissie cried in pain at the loss of her wife, the rain began to fall. With the rain pouring down, Chrissie failed to notice that she was getting soaked. That is until she was joined by a drunken David Fields. “You do realize that it's lashing down don't ya” He slurred while trying to help Chrissie up failing to notice that she was crying because of the rain, “Yeah I know” Chrissie managed until she saw that David was holding a bottle of gin. “Want some?” David offered leading Chrissie to look at him deeply.

3x30: 'Sometimes you just can't help who you fall in love with' | Written by Hannah | Episode Eighty Eight It was a cold morning as Chloe Charles stood jumping on the spot outside the bathroom door “Come on Nicki, you’ve been in there ages” Chloe complained as finally she heard the door unlock and her flatmate Nicki Grant appeared “You look awful” Chloe blurted out “Thanks Chlo, just what every girl wants to hear first thing in the morning” Nicki sighed as she walked towards her bedroom “I mean, you look really pale” Chloe explained. “I’m fine” Nicki muttered and slammed her bedroom door leaving Chloe staring into space. Meanwhile, at the Campbell house, Chrissie Campbell opened her eyes and stared up to the moving ceiling, she groaned as she turned over to the empty space in the bed. Chrissie sat up in the bed and clutched her stomach. Chrissie rushed into the bathroom and vomited, she sat back on the bathroom floor where she broke down in tears.

Kayla Macey placed a cooked breakfast down on the table in front of her foster son Kyle Campbell. A few minutes later Kyle’s twin sister Molly appeared in the kitchen holding her phone with a troubled expression on her face “Mum’s not answering her phone” Molly worried as Kayla held a cup of tea towards her. “She probably just needs some time to process everything, it’s been a tough few days for all of us” Kayla said softly. “Jay’s been the one to hold her up, what if she…” Molly let the sentence trail off. “Mum’s not like that anymore” Kyle muttered “She’s changed” He said. “It’s not as easy as that Kyle” Molly replied “She’s an addict” Molly sighed. “Right you two finish your breakfast and sort yourselves out for school. I promise you Mol, I’ll go over and see Chrissie, make sure she’s okay” Kayla said as she sat down herself. At the Crown and Horseshoe, Megan Donovan was sat at the bar sipping on a festive hot chocolate “This is amazing Imogen, it actually tastes like chocolate orange, I told Dad last year we should try some sort of festive drinks menu” Megan commented “Although he wasn’t really impressed with my Dasher Daiquiri” Megan laughed as Imogen Sandford gave her a new cookie recipe to try. “These aren’t bad either, a woman of hidden talents. Don’t know why I ever doubted you” Megan joked as her best friend and sister-in-law Ava arrived with her friend Tate Yorke. As they sat with Megan at the bar, Tate shot Imogen a sharp look. Feeling guilty for her part in Tate’s job loss, Imogen disappeared into the kitchens, leaving Eileen Fields to mind the bar. “You’re a sight for sore eyes” Eileen smiled and hugged Tate over the bar “No offense Megan but your Dad needs a boot up the backside and give this boy his job back” Eileen said supportively as Tate laughed “It’s alright Eileen, I’m moving on to bigger and better things” Tate joked. “Right Aves, a couple of pre-Christmas shopping cocktails and we’re good to go” He suggested. “Sounds good to me” Ava smiled as she sat at a table in the corner. Tate soon joined, leaving both Eileen and Megan curiously watching. “She’s heading for heartbreak that girl” Eileen sighed as Megan turned towards Eileen “Ava knows Tate’s gay” Megan commented “Sometimes you just can’t help who you fall in love with” Eileen muttered.

At Kane Creations, Sophia Phillips was sat at a table with her friend Natalie Hunt as Natalie worked on her nails, while owner Olivia Kane was stood in the corner with a cup of coffee talking to her best friend Chloe “I’m doing alright Chlo, I promise, you didn’t need to come and check up on me” Olivia reassured her friend “I know, I know” Chloe replied “To be honest I needed someone to talk to” Chloe admitted “Why? What’s up? Harry’s not messing you around is he? You know I’ll sort him out if he is” Olivia responded “No it’s not Harry. Nicki’s being really weird” Chloe sighed “Weirder than usual?” Olivia raised an eyebrow “Don’t be mean” Chloe shook her head “There’s something going on with her but she won’t talk about it” Chloe explained “She will, in her own time. You’re a good listener and a good friend Chlo and I think Nicki knows that too” Olivia reassured. Back at the table, Sophia was talking about the plans Lindsay had suggested for Chemistry “You’ve definitely given Lindsay a fresh start” Natalie smiled fondly “I’m not the only one” Sophia teased “You really like her don’t you?” Sophia asked as Natalie nodded “I know this is a weird situation, but I think it could really work” Natalie said. “I won’t lie; it was a shock for all of us. The last thing we ever expected was for Lindsay to…come out, but it’s the twenty first century, as long as Lindsay is happy who are we to judge?” Sophia rambled “You’ve very enlightened” Natalie teased “Let’s hope Duncan feels the same” Natalie said. “Duncan isn’t a dinosaur you know, he’s get used to the idea” Sophia said supportively. “I hope so” Natalie replied.

Molly and Kyle were stood in the lunch hall at Canvey Comprehensive when Head teacher Charlotte Pope walked sternly towards them “Kyle, you need to come into my office” She said coldly. “What’s he done?” Molly questioned. “I don’t want a scene Kyle” Charlotte said ignoring Molly. Kyle followed Charlotte into her office where his brother Harry stood in his police uniform “Harry?” Kyle questioned. Harry turned to face Kyle “I’m so sorry Kyle” Harry began “They’re prosecuting” He revealed. Kyle stared at Harry in horror “But Drew dropped the charges” Kyle argued “They took one look at your record Kyle and…” Harry tried to explain but Kyle interrupted “They’re basically making an example of me” Kyle paced furiously “After what he did to Mol…” Kyle ranted. “They want you in court this afternoon for your bail hearing” Harry revealed. Charlotte coughed to remind the brothers that she was still in the room “In light of this Kyle, I am afraid I am going to have to suspend you” Charlotte explained. “This happened outside of school” Harry defended but Charlotte held her hand up to stop him “Until Kyle’s criminal issues are resolved, he will not be able to set foot back in my school” Charlotte said firmly.
Imogen pulled up in her car on the quiet side of the beach, she looked at the envelope of cash and sighed, it wasn’t enough. She jumped as James Chandler got into the passenger seat. “Judgement day Ms Sandford” James said coldly. “You don’t have to do this James, we’ve been through too much for things to be like this between us” Imogen tried to appeal “We didn’t go through anything, you screwed me over Imogen. We had a pretty good setup in Sydney and then you disappeared with everything” James spat “And now I want it all back” He warned. “I couldn’t do it anymore James, what we did, it wasn’t right and I wasn’t about to spend the rest of my life rotting in a prison cell” Imogen closed her eyes tightly; she didn’t want to remember her life in Australia. “Imogen Sandford has a conscience, who knew?” James retorted and then shook his head “You wanted to save yourself, you took the money and thought you could hide” He accused “Well game over Imogen” He snatched the envelope from Imogen and counted the cash, he laughed and threw it back at her “You know, there is another way” He suggested “It wouldn’t be the first time” He leered. Imogen stared at him in disgust “You are something else, if you think I would…” James grabbed hold of Imogen’s face and pulled her towards him “I’ll let you think on it.”

“You look terrible” Kayla commented as Chrissie finally opened the front door “I didn’t get much sleep last night” Chrissie sighed as Kayla followed her into the living. “I was thinking we could have a family dinner tonight, invite Harry and Chloe, the whole clan” Kayla suggested “I’m not in the mood Kayla” Chrissie replied. “You need your family around you at a time like this; Molly’s really worried about you. She’s scared; she doesn’t want you to go backwards. You’ve come so far” Kayla admitted. “I just a bit of time Kayla, my wife has just left me” Chrissie snapped “Let us help Chrissie, don’t push us away please” Kayla pleaded “Okay I’ll come for dinner, but just stop going on” Chrissie complained “Well that’s great, come round at eight” Kayla smiled and hugged Chrissie supportively. Meanwhile, in the flat above the Crown and Horseshoe, Daniel Hastings sat at the table with his ex-wife Lindsay Faraday. They were reading over the papers that solicitor Heather Connor had just placed in front of them “Are you a hundred percent sure about this Lindsay? Once these papers are signed…” Heather let the sentence trail off. Lindsay looked up and smiled “I have never been more sure about anything in my life. I have moved on from the siege, but the memories, they’re always gonna be there. I need to do this for me” Lindsay said positively “Give me a pen Daniel” Lindsay smiled “I guess this is really it” Daniel muttered as Lindsay signed over her shares of the Crown and Horseshoe to Daniel. Standing outside the Portsmouth courthouse, Kyle smiled as Mia Faraday wheeled up to him “I can’t believe you haven’t told Kayla and Molly” Mia complained “They have enough to worry about” Kyle answered “Thanks Mia” Kyle muttered “What for?” She asked. “Being here” He responded “Well, I thought you could use a friend” Mia smiled as Harry returned and told Kyle that he was being called.

At the Crown and Horseshoe an exhausted Tate and Ava dropped their shopping bags on a free table “I think we deserve more cocktails” Ava giggled, a little tipsy. “Defo” Tate agreed. Ava made her way to the bar and smiled as she saw her brother Noah having a drink. While Ava and Noah talked, Megan sat down next to Tate “She’s been through a lot you know” Megan began “The siege and Matthew, the fire and everything. I don’t want to see Ava getting hurt” Megan warned as Tate stared at her in confusion “You don’t think? Megs I hate to break it to you but Ava ain’t really my type” Tate reminded Megan “Just be careful Tate” Megan warned and left him alone. He glanced over to Ava at the bar who smiled at him as she picked up their cocktails. Over at the bar, Daniel opened up a bottle of champagne and poured a glass each for himself, Imogen, Lindsay, Sophia and Natalie “I think a toast is in order” Daniel smiled “New beginnings” He toasted. Meanwhile, at the Portsmouth courthouse Mia breathed a sigh of relief as Kyle walked towards her “I was worried” Mia said “I’ve been given bail, it’s not over yet” Kyle sighed. “I’m sure Jay can sort it” Mia said positively but Kyle shook his head “She’s gone and Heather Connor’s not gonna want to help me” Kyle sat down on a bench while Mia wheeled her wheelchair so that she was opposite Kyle “We will get through this” Mia promised. Kyle stared at Mia “We” Kyle broke into a smile and leaned in and kissed Mia softly on the lips.

Kayla and Molly sat at the dinner table alone “Kyle and Harry shouldn’t be long” Kayla muttered. “And Mum?” Molly asked “I don’t know Mol” Kayla sighed “We just have to keep being there for her” Kayla told her. “Maybe we should start without them” Molly suggested and walked over to the oven where she pulled the lasagne out and began to dish out a plate for her and Kayla. Meanwhile, at Chloe’s flat, Chloe sat with Nicki in the living room and poured out a glass of wine for them both. She held out one towards Nicki who shook her head “I’m not in the mood” Nicki said. Chloe stared at Nicki and laughed “Not in the mood for wine? You’re either ill or you’ve got to be…” Chloe stopped as Nicki looked up at her in distress “Oh my God Nicki, are you pregnant?”
